Starting point is 00:02:39 We've got a classic for you today. Welcome to your second date podcast, the official one with Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We appreciate you being here. But before we get to, you know, maybe one of your faves, let's go to some comments. Yeah, right. Yeah, right is the username. Not yeah, right. I thought you were giving Brooke attitude.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I was like, what the hell? Yeah, said, I have 15 days worth of episodes I need to catch up on. I don't know if I can finish them all in one day without needing to rewind things because I misheard something. Oh, I thought you were going to say without needing mental health therapy by the end of it. You know what? Do you, girl? I mean, I think that's mixed in with misheard. They're like, do that really happen? Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:03:19 All right. Let's get to it. Your classic starts right now. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update. We've heard of fails happening on first dates. A lot of them. Like forgetting your wallet by accident.
Starting point is 00:03:32 For sure. Or hitting a parked. trying to parallel park in front of the restaurants. We don't hear a lot of stories, though, with altercations where punches are thrown. What? Is that what we're doing today? Apparently, that's what happened with one of our listeners, Aiden. Oh, no. So, Aiden, you fought your day, bro?
Starting point is 00:03:52 Please tell me that you were at a UFC fight watching the melee in the octagon. Is that what you meant, or are we talking about your fists? No, man, it was, it was my fist, but it was also my head. Wait, what? I'll get there, guy. That's not. Oh, my God. Well, no wonder anyone is not calling you back.
Starting point is 00:04:11 Nobody likes fighting on the first date. Yeah. I don't think we should rush to judgment here before we hear the story, even if it does sound kind of weird at first glance. But, Aidan, I mean, take us back to the beginning. What's your date's name? Her name is Kim. Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:26 She was cool. Yeah, I met her online. And her profile said, my father used to say, whatever you do, do it 100%. When you work, you work hard. When you laugh, you laugh hard. You laugh loudly. When you eat, eat a ton of food, right?
Starting point is 00:04:39 Dance like no one's watching. A little intense. Yeah. I was like, hey, your dad said that, right? So I was like, me and your dad, we have a lot in common. I'd like to feed you a lot of food and laugh loudly with you. And she loved it. Aw, that's cute, bro.
Starting point is 00:04:53 Okay. Yeah. It's usually not a great thing to say, like, hey, I'm a lot like your dad to a woman that you're trying to. Some girls need that. They got daddy issues. No, not. No, not. If you follow with, I'm going to feed you a lot of food.
Starting point is 00:05:05 Everyone says yes to that. Yeah, that was a nice thing to say afterwards. That's what you want to do. So what did you guys do? How did you guys bond? It was good. I mean, we chatted and then we, you know, excited to let you a date and everything like that. So we both met up for a few drinks and a bar.
Starting point is 00:05:21 Not food? I thought the whole point was you were going to feed her a bunch of food. I mean, I'm assuming this bar has food there. Yeah, but still, that's not like a choice of food. Hey, drinks are edible. But if you went to a restaurant, you'd be. You're like, what, no drinks? He promised food.
Starting point is 00:05:37 I thought there'd be more thought into what they were going to eat. I don't think that that is a bad expectation. Wow. Okay. Was there food at this bar? Can we put this to rest? Maybe this is how the fight started. Yes, there was food.
Starting point is 00:05:49 Okay. She was the one that digested. She suggested this bar anyway. Okay. Okay. Okay. All right. So how was it?
Starting point is 00:05:55 Like the first meeting, how are you feeling when you see her for the first time? Beautiful. Fantastic. She was hilarious. We joked a lot. And so, like, we had a few drinks, and I said, pick a guy in a bar and I'll fight him for you right now. And she laughed. And she was like, I don't want you to fight anybody anymore.
Starting point is 00:06:11 So this is where it happened. She's like, maybe yourself. There we go. Fight yourself. Now I get it. Okay. And so I punched myself in the head and she laughed. And we moved on.
Starting point is 00:06:23 And then you, oh, I thought it got extreme. He's like, oh, my God, I have a knife. Oh, I'm getting off. Oh, tooth out. He gave himself a concussion. Yeah. How did you punch yourself? Was it like a serious punch or joke?
Starting point is 00:06:38 No, it was a joke. Okay. It was very light in the right above my temple. It was perfectly fine. All in good humor. I think we can all rest easy now. I see. All in good humor.
Starting point is 00:06:47 Gotcha. And she liked the self-punch? Yeah, she thought it was hilarious. Good, okay. You sound like you have the same sense of humor. Yeah, for sure. Absolutely. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:06:58 But then she got like, well, we had a few more drinks and ended up going back to my place to see a movie. Okay. And we made out for a little bit. Sweet. We didn't go any farther than that, but it was nice. It was really nice. That goes against her policy of when you make out, make out as hard as you can.
Starting point is 00:07:12 All the time. I don't think that was in her bio. Well, since, do everything 100%. He's like, I can't breathe. Maybe that's why she's acting all weird. I don't know. What did she say when she left? She said she had a good time, but she's been acting strange over text.
Starting point is 00:07:28 What do you mean she's acting strange? I just I asked her if she wanted to hang on Friday and I asked if she was free and she said Huh you would like that wouldn't you? I roll emoji Oh Was she kidding? Maybe she's trying to be sarcastic on text and it's not reading it. Yeah that happens a lot. That's a weird response.
Starting point is 00:07:46 I know. I mean so I said L.O.O. Yeah, I would. Are you up for it? And she said whatever. Did you ask her like did I do something to make you angry? If women don't like when you get asked that. She just added, she just ended with whatever. whatever. Okay, I mean, he... And she said whatever in caps, too. Oh, emphasis.
Starting point is 00:08:06 She's yelling at you. Does that. Maybe she's just mad that you got beat up on your date, and she doesn't want a date a wuss. Yeah. You didn't stand up for yourself at all against yourself. But he also kind of won that fight at the same time. Oh, true.
Starting point is 00:08:17 Is there anything she could have found out about you, like, on a Google search or something? Or maybe inside your apartment, because she was over there for at least a little bit. Yeah. No, I'm a normal guy. I have got a normal job. I'm all good. Well, that's what all the crazies say. I don't know, man.
Starting point is 00:08:34 It's like the day was really playful, very fun, and then back to my place, it was very romantic. And, like, I don't know. And then there's attitude all the way at the end here. And I, like, I don't know what's going on. Oh, that is weird. Sounds like you're in a relationship already. I know. He's just going really well.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Well, let's call Kim here, and we'll ask her the question that all women love to be asked. Why are you so mad at me? Yeah. What did I do? Yeah, maybe we could tone down that tone. Oh. Yeah. I'm not see Brits already.
Starting point is 00:09:01 Why are you so upset with the way that I said it? Oh, not. Anyway, we'll do your second date update next. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Second date update. Texting in a new relationship can be so dangerous. Because they can ask you, hey, what do you want to eat tonight? And you respond, whatever.
Starting point is 00:09:21 Okay. And that sounds sweet to your ears, but the person on the other phone might read it as, ugh, whatever. So normally we reserve judgment in these situations, except for the fact that in this case, the girl used all caps. And an eye roll emoji. And I roll emoji.
Starting point is 00:09:38 Do not forget that. Very clear. That's why when our listener, Aiden said, hey, I'd really like to see you. Is that okay with you? Whatever.
Starting point is 00:09:46 I roll emoji. I think we're reading that correctly. Yeah. And the only question that we have is why? Why would she respond that way? Because they had a really normal date. They went back to his place, made out,
Starting point is 00:09:57 out again and she's giving him attitude. I don't get it personally. I'm scared, Aiden. Yeah, me too. I don't like to call angry women. You just like to be one. Yeah, I think of it's a thing. It's just an issue waiting to happen.
Starting point is 00:10:13 It really is. And you can't think of any reason why I should be so mad at you. I literally can't think of one thing. We had a great date, laughed a lot, and a little romantic at the end, you know? Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. And with good boundaries, like the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:10:29 Yeah. Yeah. Well, we're all confused. We're going to learn something. We'll learn and get a little clarity. Maybe she's just randomly mad. You texted her on the wrong day? Maybe.
Starting point is 00:10:40 Whatever, Jose. Sorry, I knew I said it wrong. I don't mean it to be a lot. Let's just call this girl and see what she has to say. Here we go. Hello. Hey, is this Kim? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:58 He's calling. Hey, Kim. My name is Jeff from the radio show Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Hi, Kim. Hey. Hope we caught you in a good mood today. Okay. Don't expect it, though.
Starting point is 00:11:09 We don't care if you are. I mean, it's fine if you're not. That's okay, too. How did you guys get my number? Good question. We had a listener give it to us after telling us a story about a date that you two went on. Okay. Who is it?
Starting point is 00:11:23 I'm talking about Aiden. Aiden gave you my number? Yeah. It's part of a segment we're doing right now called a second date update. We're trying to help Aiden figure out why. why date number two hasn't happened yet. It doesn't seem like you're that interested. Is that true?
Starting point is 00:11:38 Well, yeah, I'm not that interested anymore. I mean, I knew it. Did you like Google search him or something and find out something weird? No, should I? No, I didn't mean that. I didn't mean that like that. I meant like he told us about the date and it sounded great and then now it sounds like you hate him.
Starting point is 00:11:57 Just based on the text messages that he was reading to us. Oh, he was reading text messages to you? Because we felt the same way that he did that it seems like from what happened that night, you two had a great time. So there's obviously a disconnect happening. We're trying to figure out where it is. Well, if you want to know, I just, I mean, I thought it was great. He was super sweet. He's funny.
Starting point is 00:12:22 The date was great. But I just started noticing some patterns that I don't really want in a potential partner. Okay. Oh, okay. What is it? Yeah, what type of patterns were you seeing? Well, so when we first started talking, we were really flirty over text, and I would send him like selfies of me, like getting ready to go out with the girls. And, you know, just be cute and flirting.
Starting point is 00:12:45 And he would comments and reply with these long paragraphs about how cute I was or just whatever, just like making me feel super beautiful and super seen. That's really nice. And then after the date, I sent him another picture. and he just replied with a heart emoji reaction. Okay. Okay. Yeah. So isn't that good?
Starting point is 00:13:07 Right? I mean, not after like what he'd been doing the previous week when I'd been sending him pictures. I don't know. It just feels weird. It feels like, I don't know, I feel like maybe a little taking advantage of. Taking advantage of. What does that mean?
Starting point is 00:13:22 I don't know. Like he had his fix. He made out. I don't know. He asked you out again. though. He said he wanted to hang out with you again. Like his fix is just kissing? It just seems like he wasn't that attentive.
Starting point is 00:13:36 That's what it was. And I don't even know why I'm telling you people on the radio. It's like there's a vibe shift because he didn't write a paragraph, but he just like loved your picture. Girl, he liked you so much. He contacted a radio station to get a hold of you to get another date with you. But she doesn't know that. She's just finding that out now.
Starting point is 00:13:55 But you were reading it wrong, obviously, is what I'm saying. I don't think I am reading it wrong. He was treating me a lot different before. Okay. I get any if you want like a hyped response and you just get, but a heart still means a lot. It's so something, right? And maybe he'd reached his text limit and that was all that he could get. I don't think that's how text works anymore.
Starting point is 00:14:15 Maybe he's on a burner phone. It's probably just you don't have time always to do that. Yeah. And it feels like you're too desperate. You don't want to do it with everyone. That's too needy. I mean, even if you left you on red, it'd be worse. than a heart.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Don't let us tell you. Let Aiden tell you directly because he's been on the other line listening this whole time and he wants to say it. Uh-oh. Hey, how you doing? Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:14:39 Oh, my God. Yeah, we need something to love here than that. You should have had a poem ready, bro. I don't know. Look, I don't even know what I'm supposed to do here, you know? Sorry, Kim. I literally don't know what you need for me.
Starting point is 00:14:52 So do you want me to write a paragraph every time you send a picture? Is that what you want? Because, honestly, it feels like a little bit of a red flag for me. Oh. Well, if that's a red fox for you, then I don't know why you call the radio station. Oh.
Starting point is 00:15:05 Oh. He didn't know. Yeah, just finding out. Yeah. It's just like, send a message back saying something. You know, it just makes me, I, like, feel embarrassed. And I, like, I put this effort in taking this picture and sending it to you. And yet you, like, just hearted it. Like, I don't know. So a heart isn't enough of a show of appreciation for you.
Starting point is 00:15:25 Was it just a normal selfie or was it a little bit more provocative? You know, because that is a difference. Oh, well, that a selfie just deserves a heart, no offense. I'm not sending these pictures to every man. I mean, I'm sending to him. I mean, they're like subjective, but they're not extreme. I don't know. I don't even want to be talking about these pictures.
Starting point is 00:15:45 So you just need more validation in your life is what it comes down to. Aidan, would you like to apologize for not validating her? I was validating her with the heart. I didn't know she needed like words of affirmation. Okay. But think about it, like, when you write something funny in, like, a group text and people just do a ha-ha to it, instead of, like, writing back, oh, my God, that was so funny. I don't know. It's a half-hearted heart.
Starting point is 00:16:07 That happens all the time in my group text. Maybe you're not that funny, ain't it? I don't know. I thought we had a great time. Look, I'm willing to learn. I'm willing to get coaching here. If you need more, I'm happy to give you more. Oh, that's good.
Starting point is 00:16:22 That's a good response. And it's good that you guys are having some open communication right now. Sure. Agreed. He sounds pretty remorseful for not being more appreciative because he didn't realize that you needed that. But now that he knows, he can change. Exactly. Yeah. If he knows that now that's different. Okay. Okay. So the thing is that, I don't know if he's going to do it on a consistent basis. Like, every time you make out, is he just going to give me like a thumbs up.
Starting point is 00:16:48 I don't know. High five after a good makeout session is always good for me. No. No. No. And he texts him some like keywords to you. Oh, God. You high five your husband? Yeah, sure. Oh, God. I'm willing to understand that if it was like a pattern, but this only happened once.
Starting point is 00:17:04 So I'm willing to take the note and I'm happy to change. Just start right now by saying one really nice thing about the way that she looks in her last picture. Go ahead. There you go. You have amazing legs. Like, absolutely gorgeous. That's a little bit too long. I need just one word.
Starting point is 00:17:22 Don't you dare say heart. Legs. a iron mokey, part of a mogy. You see that? Tim, he's changed. He's a changed man. Not even her face. You're not going to say anything about her?
Starting point is 00:17:33 He's got to work his way up. He'll do that on the next date you guys go out with that will pay for if you're up for giving him another shot at that. Kim, what do you say? One more date on our dime. I mean, fine. Fine. As long as you're willing to learn, I like, I did have a good time. Oh.
Starting point is 00:17:50 Yeah. Great. That was angry, sweet. All the same time. Fine. Fine. Great. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:57 It's the most romantic ending to a second date we've ever had. Yay, we did it. Great. Well, thank you, sir. At least you didn't just say whatever. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. The Jonas Brothers are running it back. We live the Burning Up Tour and celebrate the biggest Jonas Brothers that have defined a generation.
Starting point is 00:18:23 One incredible celebration. One unforgettable night, see the Jonas Brothers live at RBC Amphitheater, September 28th. Get tickets now at Ticketmaster.ca. I survived, and I've spent my life exploring how other people survive what should have destroyed them. I'm Elizabeth Smart, and these are the Survivor Files.
Starting point is 00:18:57 I just remember this low, taunting voice next to my ear saying, shut up, don't say anything. Every week, I'm with survivors who live through the unthinkable. I knew if he woke up, without a doubt, he was going to hurt me. I started feeling that there was someone at the end of my bed, and I just started screaming. They are abducted, stalked, controlled, and nearly silenced. But these aren't stories about what's taken from them. There's stories about what it takes to make it out alive. Listen to the Survivor Files with Elizabeth Smart on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:19:39 or wherever you get your podcasts. I know our number one goal on these is trying to get our listeners a second date. I get that 1,000% and we did that. Brooke tends to be the opposite, but somebody has to. She's carry the torch and champion love, and that's going to be me. Oh, you're going to be the one. That's cute. So I'm glad we got that second date, but does anybody else think it's a little bit weird
Starting point is 00:20:01 that she completely stopped talking to him and was willing to never see him again because he hearted a photo? Oh, boy. It just sounds like he's destined to have one of her, like, Jose-type relationships. How did those go? A little tumultuous. Yeah. They burn hot in the beginning and go ice cold within a month. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:20 But sometimes that's all people are looking for, Jeff. Yeah. You know? It's not called 18 date update. Oh, we just got to get one more. Yeah. That's a victory for us. We want to get you some victories in the dating world.
Starting point is 00:20:35 You can email the show. We'll call that person who isn't calling you back. And check out all of our second date podcasts. They're up online wherever you get your podcast. Or you can go to our website, brook and jeffrey.com. I survived nine months in captivity. And I've spent my life exploring how other. people survive what should have destroyed them.
