Starting point is 00:00:00 You're listening to an iHeart podcast. Ugh, we're so done with New Year, New You. This year, it's more you on Bumble. More of you shamelessly sending playlists, especially that one filled with show tunes. More of you finding Geminis because you know you always like them. More of you dating with intention
Starting point is 00:00:23 because you know what you want. And you know what? We love that for you. Someone else will too. Be more you this year and find them on Bumble. I'm Andrea Gunning, host of the podcast, Betrayal. Police Lieutenant Joel Kern used his badge to fool everyone. Most of all, his wife, Caroline.
Starting point is 00:00:44 He texted, I've ruined our lives. You're going to want to divorce me. How far would he go to cover up what he'd done? The fact that you lied is absolutely horrific and quite frankly I question how many other women are out there that may bring forward allegations in the future. Listen to Betrayal on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Amy Robach and TJ Holmes here. Diddy's former protege, television personality, Denity King alum Aubrey O'Day joins us to provide a unique perspective on the trial that has captivated the attention of the nation. It wasn't all bad, but I don't know that any of the good was real.
Starting point is 00:01:28 I went through things there. Listen to Amy and TJ Presents, Aubrey O'Day covering the Diddy Trial on the iHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Hi, I'm Radhie Devlukia, and I am the host of a Really Good Cry podcast. And I had the opportunity to talk to Davy Brown. With women, any kind of thing where there might be this underlying edge of self-sacrifice as martyrdom, if you're never filling, you're telling yourself a story and you're actually avoiding what you should be doing.
Starting point is 00:02:01 You got to get in, you got to get your hands dirty. Listen to A Really Good Cry on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I know a lot of cops, and they get asked all the time, have you ever had to shoot your gun? Sometimes the answer is yes. But there's a company dedicated to a future where the answer will always be no.
Starting point is 00:02:23 This is Absolute Season 1, Taser Inc. I get right back there and it's bad. Listen to Absolute Season 1, Taser Inc. on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. Just a little hit of that second date today. Oh yeah. It's Brooke and Jeffrey and you found the podcast Thanks so much for being here and big news. Okay big news very important. Listen up
Starting point is 00:02:49 Yes, the second date merch with our merch for a cause is ending June 1st So that means you have a very limited time to get your orders in I did call The amazing shop forward who we work with and they opened up all sizes right now. So I know they were sold out for a little while. Get in there while you can. The link is in the show notes. Thank you so much too for everyone that supports. It's going to truly an amazing cause.
Starting point is 00:03:14 So we really appreciate it. And let's get you that second date. Second date update. We got an email from a listener and I'll just read the subject line. Okay. It says, there's a scamming coward on the dating apps and you need to help me expose him.
Starting point is 00:03:33 Oh, juicy. And his name is Scotty Don't. Come on. Stop it, it is not. I'm just kidding. It's an inside joke on the show right now. Oh, God. So we're going to put that aside with the bottle of peach schnapps and everything else
Starting point is 00:03:49 that's waiting up in his hotel room. Let's focus on our caller here because she did seem pretty heated in her email. Just on the subject line alone, you could tell. Let's talk to Lindsay. Lindsay, welcome to the show. Hi. Oh, already coming in hot just with that high. I love it, Lindsay.
Starting point is 00:04:07 You caught a scammer on your dating app? What's going on? Yeah, I did. And I want to call him. I want to call him. All right. Let's take a deep breath. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:16 I like this energy. Let's get him. We'll get into him. Can we know what's this guy's name? His name is Alex. And honestly, don't even call him a guy. He's a boy Okay, Lindsay we're on the radio yeah, we got to watch the language just a little bit But I appreciate the passion that you have what happened
Starting point is 00:04:38 Well, we got dinner and it was going great. I felt like we were really connecting having a good time He seems more into me than I was into him. Okay. And towards the end of the meal, he gets up to go to the bathroom and never comes back. Oh no, we have talked to people that have done this or had it done to them. Yeah, that's really extreme. I've heard of this happening online. I never thought this would happen to me and it was humiliating I felt like an idiot. Oh god. How long did you sit there? Did you get the waiter to like go check on him or what? Yeah, okay. So after like 15 20 minutes, I was like maybe we can check the bathroom. Is he okay?
Starting point is 00:05:19 I actually got worried about him and he wasn't even there. He was gone about him and he wasn't even there he was gone usually people who do this are enjoying the date do you think maybe you've done this coming in something the cost usually didn't have a really good reason she's right come on he doesn't like you so much he left right I said he seemed more into me than I was into him he was so flirty and funny and like what does this look at a garbage piece of crap human and leaves their date at the end of the date all by yourself yeah you have a lot of reason to be upset but I don't know that he's gonna hear you if we're coming in at that level you know what I mean like what do you want out of this you
Starting point is 00:06:04 want to call him out and then what I want to know what made him do that This is definitely different because most the people that reach out to us want another date with the person that we're about to call Lindsay you have no interest whatsoever. No, I want you to call him, and then I'm gonna come on the phone and leave him out. Okay. Oh. Okay, okay. I'm here for that. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Like what if he has a good reason? That's what I was trying to say. Brooke, there is no good reason a man should ever do that to a woman. We have heard where people have had like bathroom emergencies where they can't go back to the table. He could have texted her and said something to her. Like, have you reached out to him since that happened?
Starting point is 00:06:50 Yes, I've texted him a lot. He had plenty of opportunities to write me back and let me know if something went wrong in the bathroom, which he didn't. Look, I'm assuming you called him a bunch of mean names in the text message. I started off nice, and then he didn't answer. So he doesn't deserve me being nice. He doesn't get that He does not get that what's interesting. I mean as soon as we tell this guy who we're calling for he's gonna hang up on us
Starting point is 00:07:14 Why? He knows he knows how mad she is she's already been texting him well He won't know that she's on the line until we surprise her with that. I mean maybe he wants to out her Maybe this is his chance, right? If it's something he thinks she did. Not that I support that. Women don't do things wrong in the dating world, Brooke. I've learned it. We know that. I bet he's done this. I bet he's done this to like a hundred women.
Starting point is 00:07:37 So he can't get away with it and he has to defend himself or say something. Oh. You think he does this like all the time. gets a can't be just her and then walks out It's nothing to do I bet he does okay Because he was acting so smooth and and funny flurry. I can read these guys like a book The only reason that you reached out to us here is just because the idea of not knowing why he left that night is Probably just killing you right now I think it's gonna humiliate me. I'm gonna humiliate him on the radio. Okay
Starting point is 00:08:10 We're not just doing this for Lindsay today We're doing this for women everywhere who have gotten stood up and walked out of in the middle of dinner We don't even know if he's a scammer! No! Stick him! Get him! I have my claws right here! We are gonna be merciless when we come back and do the most brutal second date part 2 we've ever done. If you're a guy, I would not answer your phone in the next 5 minutes. Well, please answer so that we can have something to air. But we're gonna do it right after this.
Starting point is 00:08:43 This is a little tense. Because there a woman listener of ours on the phone right now who is out for blood. Yes, she is claws are out because in her mind and I do kind of agree with her here. There is no reason for a guy to get up and leave a table at the end of the date sneak out of the restaurant and stick her with the entire bill and that's the thing He ate his dinner. It's not like he left in the middle and like some But that's what that's a good point job, that's what happened to Lindsay or I mean at least I think she got stuck with the bill
Starting point is 00:09:17 Well, what happened with the bill Lindsay? Did you pay it? Oh, yeah whole thing. Yeah, so that's another thing He left me to cover the bill Yeah, so that's another thing. He left me to cover the bill The waiter saw me sitting there for a half hour and saw how upset he was and he generously covered my bill Which was so nice You didn't have to pay yeah, I didn't have to pay but the humiliation of being left alone there was the worst part of it Alexis is humiliated just sitting alone at her desk sometimes Shameful but Brooke I I think we need a game plan so we all don't jump on Alex and like get angry right off the bat I mean, I think first of all we shouldn't accuse him of anything. We don't know from his side. What happened you liar?
Starting point is 00:10:05 You would say that wouldn't there could be a reason even if his reason sucks you want to hear it That's the whole point of you calling in right you want to hear it. He better be in the hospital when we call him And the only way we're gonna hear it is if we come in not accusatory Okay, okay, but like we're all on my side, right? Yes. Well, the guys are, the girls do not seem to be. I mean right now, yeah. I haven't heard the other side of the story yet.
Starting point is 00:10:32 I don't care what the other side of the story is personally, but you know what? I'm gonna dial Alex, and we're gonna be on our best behavior. Hopefully he picks up. Here we go. Okay, let's see what he says. Okay, okay.
Starting point is 00:10:42 Can we mute your line? I don't know, I kinda like it. Here we go. Okay. Let's see what he says. Okay. Okay. All right. I'm excited. Kind of like it. Here we go. Hello. Hey, we're looking to speak with Alex. Uh, this is he. Hey, Alex. Hey. Hope you're having a good day. Hello. Hello. Sorry, Alex, I'm just laughing at Jeffrey right now. Hi! I know, who's Jeffrey? That's me. I'm a radio host on the show, Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Hey Alex! Wait, what? The whole show's here, man. Yeah, you're on the radio right now. Hi! We're just hoping to have a nice, calm, pleasant conversation with you today. About what? A date you went on recently with one of our listeners. Her name
Starting point is 00:11:25 is Lindsay. Please don't hang up. Yeah, come on. We just need to talk for a sec. Oh my god. Okay. Yeah, you remember Lindsay, huh? You're both kind of... Oh man. Yeah, so we heard from her that you two went out to dinner recently. Which she thought was going great. She really was enjoying her time with you. And then there was the bad part of dinner, which happened when you went missing from the restaurant. Like. Yep.
Starting point is 00:11:54 Okay, sorry. Yeah, you're just gonna own that? You're not gonna apologize immediately? So you admit that happened. You walked out. I take full credit for that. What? Credit? There's gotta be. Wow. That's like a pride thing when take full credit for that what credit that's like
Starting point is 00:12:06 a pride thing when you take credit something what do you mean because she probably didn't share with you I saw her and her little friend before the date what little friend I don't know her little friend's name her little girlfriend they were about a block away from the restaurant. Her and her friend were involved in something else, so they didn't notice me. And what do you see them do that's so terrible? Her friend is like seems like she's coaching her for something. So Lindsey says to her friend, my Uber app is not working.
Starting point is 00:12:42 Can you pay for me? And she like backs her eyes. And what? Did she bat at her eyes? So her Uber app wasn't working? And her friend said, no, just a little more believably. What? Oh, she's coaching her to act.
Starting point is 00:13:01 Exactly. Exactly. So she wouldn't have to pay for an Uber home? She was like, my Uber app's not working. Could you pay for me? It was like sociopathic the way she did it. So you think... Sociopathic the way I did it?
Starting point is 00:13:15 Oh, no. There's no way she's sociopathic. She couldn't be. Wait a minute. Who the hell cares? Are you guys supposed to wait? We have to let Alex know that that is Lindsay on the line. Uh huh.
Starting point is 00:13:27 Oh, I would never. Trust me, we did not want you to say that. What I'm hearing, Alex, is that you're, so guys aren't supposed to help a girl get home safely? Huh? After a date? The thing is, Lindsay, you jumped in too soon so we couldn't get to what Alex was thinking. What was going through your mind, Alex? I was thinking, and I feel like I have proof because I witnessed your friend coaching you
Starting point is 00:13:52 in getting me to pay for your Uber and you playing this damsel in distress act, just to get free stuff out of me. Do you know what he's talking about, Lindsay? I was expecting to be able to get help getting home. I just said that, and there's nothing wrong with that. And so your answer to that was to get up and just leave dinner at the end and leave me the bill? Like, I don't know, like an immature loser?
Starting point is 00:14:16 What the hell? I mean, if you, and here's the question. Wait, wait, wait. I wanna know, like, if you heard it before the date even started, why did you do the date? Because here's the thing as soon as I heard her planning to do that. I already knew she was going to manipulate me So I was like i'm gonna be manipulate you so you Sucker did a guy help the girl get home, you know, usually people do that
Starting point is 00:14:45 But you were practicing over and over again and you two were laughing about it. This is not you asking for help. Yeah we're laughing for girls and we think like I'm cute. So what? Do you not laugh with your friends? Like geez you made this evil plan in response to leave me and like an idiot in the middle of the restaurant all alone. Like come on you're the sociopath one. Yeah and you know what I ordered the most expensive thing on the menu Okay, so this just confirms you are you are just a little If anything you guys are both a little bit of Manipulators no no no no no no I only scam the scammer. I was ready to have a genuine date I was ready to have a genuine date with her. Okay. Oh, shut up.
Starting point is 00:15:23 Shut up. I was excited to get home after a few drinks safely and you decided up on a plan of just, I don't know, make, you just want to make someone feel small. You want to make women feel small. What? Women. You are not women.
Starting point is 00:15:37 You are one person. Yeah. You can leave her Uber app. I'd be a boy to do that. Oh, great. So now I'm not a woman who deserves to be not left in a bandit at a restaurant Why can't you afford your own uber? You guys are not getting it. She was practicing that her uber wasn't working. She can totally afford it
Starting point is 00:15:57 She just wants to make the fool out of somebody somebody. Okay. Okay, so Shivalry is dead. Thank you. No, it's not. No, that's not Shivalry. Lindsay, it is a little bit sus that you're practicing the line to say to like be like, can you pay for my broken app? Oh no. It's more than sus. It's like you got caught, girl. You got caught scamming him for an Uber ride. I was not scamming. What do you mean you're not scamming? You're lying. You're lying to get what you need. I am just ashamed that Brooke was on Lindsey's side this entire Can not be part of this anymore, yeah Thank you for taking my side Genuine individual who could totally afford her own over right home
Starting point is 00:16:44 Clearly Brooke there's always two sides to every story and you're on the wrong Anyone in that room say that before I didn't hear that at all look. I mean at this point. We're running out of time So I just have to ask we would I know there could be a lot of hot passion there Because we always offer to send you guys out on another date, a date that we would pay for if you're both willing to agree to it. Just don't talk.
Starting point is 00:17:10 No, I can find a man who doesn't mind getting me home after a few drinks. I don't mind getting you home after a few drinks. That's why I'm offering to pay. I mean, Lindsay, I'm actually kind of down at this point. He knows what's up. Don't fall for it, Lindsay. he's luring you in for another trap what could I possibly weave this time did and in the end Alex I don't know if you know this but she never even paid for the dinner yeah you know what that Oh my god. You got your eyes on the waiter too.
Starting point is 00:17:45 You know what, that makes me even happier that this is all happening on the radio. What's happening on the radio? That she is getting completely exposed for being the liar manipulator that she is. Oh my god, this is funny now Alex. Oh my god. Stop it. You can't spin this around. See?
Starting point is 00:18:03 She thinks she's in the right now. Fakes one to no one, babe. Alright, I think we've gotten pretty far in understanding what happens. We've finally reached common ground. No, they both don't think they're in the right. Thank god you were such a champion of women, Jeffrey. That's right. I fixed all the problems. You're welcome. I knew you would.
