Wow, is that sarcastic, Brooke?
Well, it's just that you're also listening to this podcast.
So I don't know how old things can be true, but I want to make that happen for you.
Welcome to your Saturday episode of Brooke and Jeffrey where we play you two back-to-back classics, a little double dose.
Oh, and by the way, if you do like these long.
versions on the weekends, Jake has been compiling like 50 minutes of different things.
So if you want to just really binge, check out our YouTube on the weekends as well at
Brooke and Jeffrey.
Yes.
And speaking of what our listeners are up to in their free time, Brooke, Elvert Black Goat said,
I was so busy today, had to replace a roof that blew off.
Didn't have the chance to listen, but I'm listening now.
Hey, there you go.
Hopefully you got that roof back on, my man.
Or if not, just headphones in so you can hear us.
And a big tarp.
Yep.
All right.
Here we go.
Your back-to-back classics.
Start right now.
Brooke, stop raising the roof.
I need to ask the room, having an actual phone conversation before you hang out on a date.
Good idea or bad idea.
I got to really click with somebody to get on a phone call.
That is so crazy to me.
I'm just from a different dating era.
Yeah.
No call me.
Yeah.
Is that no calls?
It's so wild.
FaceTime's like in the middle, right?
So FaceTiming before a date?
That was going to be my next question.
Good idea, bad idea.
I would say at least to say hi.
by. That's better than a phone call?
I feel like a phone call so much easier than a
FaceTime. I just text everyone.
Okay. What about circling the parts
on your body that are the most ticklish
before a date with a magic marker era
pointing at them? Good idea or
bad idea? I like that one. You did
have a weird fraternity, didn't you?
Those habits die hard.
But I'm just asking, because
one of our listeners said he did every
form of communication he possibly
could leading up to
his big first date. And after
all of that something still went wrong.
You're going to hear how in your second date update right after this.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
Why do women ghost after showing very high interest early on?
Like we're talking two weeks of nonstop flirty talk and genuine planning of your futures together.
And then suddenly one day, nope, actually never mind, she's completely over you and doesn't want to talk.
you anymore.
Got the ick.
Alexis, is that the reason?
Is that why someone would do that?
Before we stalked you, found something bad about you.
I was thinking online research.
Some incriminating, like, family information online.
I mean, who knows?
Rap sheet.
You can find anything.
Yeah, I mean, if it's Alexis, it's just a photo taken in bad light.
Yeah, posted online.
Okay, that's one possibility.
Is it also possible that maybe you built up a lofty idea of who the guy was in your
mind and then when you actually met him and got to know him, reality didn't even get close
to your expectations.
Oh, well, I don't know.
Do girls build up us guys like that?
Maybe it's the opposite.
The guy thought she liked him for two weeks and she never did.
That's possible to.
Well, one of our listeners chatted with a girl every night for almost two weeks.
Every night.
Then they met up and things just stopped.
So now he's here.
Maybe she was overwhelmed because she was so in love with you and she isn't
processing it. Oh, we can lie to the listeners now.
Let's welcome
them to the show, though. Hey, Brad. How you doing,
man? Hey, guys. How's it going?
Dude, buddy, that is an
investment. Two weeks of every day.
Like, actually, phone conversations
or texts? We did it all. We did phone. We did text.
We did Face Times. We did everything.
Wow.
She'd even seen you before.
Yeah. So you only
had one meetup with this woman. What was
her name? Her name's Megan.
And I know she saw what I
look like on the FaceTime so she knows I look like my photos.
That sucks.
I don't want to say this, but like most of the time people are dating around.
Is it possible?
She was talking to somebody else.
I understand when you're first talking to somebody you could be dating someone else or
talking to someone else, but we had such long, deep conversations.
It sounds like you guys connected on such a level, right?
Yeah.
Well, listen to what she told me.
One night she goes, I could see myself growing old with you.
Oh.
Oh, my gosh.
That's almost too much, man.
I've said that's my masseuse before.
Is that not appropriate?
You get a rub me when I'm wrinkly still?
Like a dune until I die.
But you liked that because you were on the same page with her?
That didn't freak you out?
Yeah, that was the thing.
It didn't freak me out because I kept feeling like I was falling for her before we even met up.
Oh.
Wow, dude.
It's only weird when you're not on the same page.
If you're involved within two weeks, like, this is great and you're on the same page, then it is great.
But you sound like you're 100% in on her before you even.
met her. Oh my God. I started telling all my friends about her. I told my sister about her.
God, you haven't met her yet. I have like a 90-year-old barber that I told him about it.
That's adorable. I'm here. I just know everything. Yeah, I was just going to say. He's been around your
whole life. I mean, I bet you were so nervous for your guys's first meetup, right, in person?
You know what? I wasn't nervous because we had such a good connection. Okay. I kind of felt like
there's only one way to go. Sure. But see, that goes back to what I was saying earlier about.
about how it could be a little bit dangerous now that you've put up these lofty expectations
for how much you're going to connect when you actually meet in person.
But it's worse at risk, right?
Like with great risk comes great reward, you know?
I agree.
Movie quote.
Yeah.
Or great letdown in this case.
I mean, that's the risk part of that sentence.
Well, I guess it's just going to depend because I thought the date itself went really,
really well.
Let's go through it.
What did you do for the date?
We went to Outback.
Okay.
Staying up and lofty.
I like it.
Yeah.
The only thing I can think of that maybe with a stupid thing to say or do, I don't know, is as we're walking into the restaurant, there's this old mattress out behind it next to the dumpster.
And I looked at it and I said maybe I should just bring that home because I need a new one.
Oh.
Okay, that's dumb.
She actually laughed.
Yeah.
Okay.
But do you actually need the mattress?
No, Jeff.
He was kidding.
And then she saw him strapping it to the roof of his house.
That's the problem.
Okay.
But she laughed, you said.
He she laughed.
Great.
That actually led into a conversation about what kind of dream house we would get if we ever had one.
Oh, my.
That's what fun, too.
All the alley mattresses that one home could handle.
Yeah, this is not like me.
Like, I don't rush into relationships.
I just, it felt right.
And you know that feeling.
It just feels like comfort, like home, you know?
It felt like we'd known each other for years already.
Wow.
Like, we were doing that thing, you know, where you're sitting at the table and you make little excuses to sort of brush up against the other person.
Oh.
I don't think that's really what it's like to be with somebody for a long time.
You kind of are on each other's nerves by that point.
You're like, don't touch my shoulder.
Yeah, you skipped right past the honeymoon phase into 20 years of marriage.
That's also good, right?
Like, well, the chemistry.
It felt amazing.
Okay, if it feels good for you, that's awesome.
How did the night end?
Well, the kiss in my mind, I pictured it longer, but we did kiss.
Yeah.
And I told her I wanted to see her again.
And she said definitely.
She said definitely.
Okay.
And now she's not answering anything.
Weird.
How long has it been since the date?
It's been six days.
Six days.
Which feels like an eternity when you talked every day multiple times a day for two weeks.
Yeah.
And you built your dream house together with each other in your minds.
I mean, basically, yeah.
And you told your 90-year-old barber.
I mean, you can't go back from that.
He is going to be disappointed.
I know.
Yeah, he's got a lot writing on this.
All right.
Well, we cannot give your barber bad news,
so we're going to come back, get you your second date update,
and hopefully end on a positive note coming up right after this.
Hold on.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
No pressure, but true love is on the line today for our listener, Brad.
Because he met a girl online.
They texted.
They called each other.
FaceTimed even for hours and hours on end.
And got to the point where they were literally playing.
out their future dream home together.
Oh,
complete with roadside mattresses.
And it's not just him who feels that way.
He told us Megan brought up,
I could see myself growing old with you.
Those were her words.
So clearly they were both drinking
from the same vat of love juice.
But one dinner date, whatever is in there.
One dinner date, though, at the outback,
and everything has changed.
I feel like we say that all the time.
Yeah.
I'm just kidding.
That should be their slogan.
Nobody's the same after, but especially not, Brad.
He's trying to figure out what happened, what change, because she is totally ignoring him now.
Brooke, you're sticking with the he's too sexy and emotionally mature angle.
Oh, yeah, she's overwhelmed and doesn't know how to handle it.
And right now she's just talking to her therapist about letting go of her old baggage and thoughts and moving forward into the future.
Yes, she wants to be the perfect woman to fit your perfect man.
I mean, that's what I'm hoping for anyway.
Okay.
Sounds good, right, Brad?
Yeah, sounds great.
Yeah.
I'm sure that's what she's going to say when we call her right here.
It has nothing to do with a dumpster mattress at all.
I would hope not.
I hope she knows I'm joking.
Yeah.
I have a random question.
You said you had a quick kiss, like really quick.
Did you eat blooming onions?
Oh, a little onion breath thing?
We ate a bunch of different stuff.
Oh, that's not better.
If her breath smelled like 20 blooming onions, it wouldn't have mattered.
I still would have kissed her.
Oh, why is that cut?
That's ew, you guys.
That's disgusting.
I thought it was cute.
Have a mint.
No, that is so sweet.
He would kiss her even if she had hot breath.
Gross.
It's really cute.
If Brooke thinks it's cute, that's how you know you're doomed, man.
That's the red fuck.
So let's just call her.
Hopefully it's not the breath thing, but.
Brooke and her husband just eating raw onions.
Like, oh, honey.
If you do it together, it doesn't matter.
Okay, let's eject from this as quickly as possible.
I'm dialing you right now.
Hey, is this Megan?
Yeah, who is this?
I'm really excited.
Calm down, Brooke.
This is a radio show that you're on right now.
It's called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Thanks for being here.
Hi, good morning.
We are so happy you answer the phone.
Yes.
What is this?
This is a segment that we do, a dating segment called Second Date Update,
where we try to help out listeners who've gone out with someone
and afterwards they're not getting a call back or no chance for a second meetup.
We try to help them figure out why.
Oh.
Okay.
Sorry.
I know you're probably expecting some prizes or whatever, but...
I think this is even cooler than a prize.
Yeah.
Like, could be a chance.
I don't know, a relationship or love.
Depends on the prize.
Well, some good concert tickets.
So this is a guy, a listener of ours that you went out with named Brad.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Oh, wow.
Like, oh, wow.
Or like, oh, wow.
I don't even want to talk about this.
I mean.
Oh, really?
I mean, it sounds like you two are so invested in each other.
We've heard a lot from Brad about you, and he said that it's been six days since your date,
but it's kind of felt like a lifetime to him because, I mean, that's how strong the connection was.
We've heard a lot of people going on normal dates before on the show,
but the way he described your connection and your kind of journey together,
he put a lot of hope into this, and he's felt kind of devastated that you've stepped back.
Yeah, I was pretty devastated, too.
Okay.
That's not good.
Can we ask what caused that change in feeling towards him?
Yeah.
I mean, we were talking about the future and everything was good.
And then we met up and it started off right.
It was fun and it was sweet.
And then he said something that was just so off-putting.
Uh-oh.
He doesn't like pudding?
Off-putting, Jeff.
Oh, okay.
Oh, my God.
Like immediately you had a reaction as,
soon as he said this.
I mean, at first I thought it was a joke, and then I realized he was serious.
What?
Oh, God.
It's not about the street mattress thing, is it?
You also designed a dream home or on a stained mattress?
Yeah.
No, it was when we were eating.
We had a lot of stuff to eat, and I said that I make the best blooming onion in my air friar.
Oh, wow.
And he laughed at me.
He laughed at you?
He laughed at me, and he said that air friars are a scam.
What?
I mean, they are just convinced.
Infection ovens, but, right?
Wait, what does that mean?
Oh, he said it's just a loud toaster.
Oh, that's kind of funny.
I mean, it's like the George Foreman Grill of today.
Like, everybody's buying them.
Everybody's got to have them.
But she said he wasn't joking that he was serious.
He was serious.
What?
He was that passionate about air friars?
Well, maybe I was passionate about it and he wasn't, but he said he just didn't believe in them.
And that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.
Okay, wow.
So his comment about air friars being a scam for you, that completely shifted how you saw him.
Yeah, in that moment, I was like, nope, I don't see my future husband.
Okay.
But not the trash mattress.
We were joking about that.
He was dead serious about this.
Wow.
That is such a hard take.
That is weird.
He seems like that's where she draws the line like you can come after whatever else, but don't cross me in my air friar.
No, I actually met him saying that air fires were a belief system.
Oh, interesting.
Yeah, that is weird.
You never discussed it with him and told him how it made you feel?
I mean, he was so serious.
He was just digging in.
I just sat back and crossed him off my list.
Oh, geez.
Wow.
Well, I can still sense a little bit of pent-up frustration that you have towards Brad, even thinking about it.
And if you wanted to unload on him, just saying, now's your chance because he's on the other line right now waiting to talk to you.
Are you serious?
I don't want to talk about this anymore.
I'm sure he wants to say something about it.
I want to hear this.
Yeah, me too.
Brad, are you there?
Hey, Megan, I had no idea you were so bothered by those comments.
Well, I mean, you were so serious.
I mean, what are you going to stick fries in the microwave?
I mean, you have an oven.
You can put things in the oven.
You're sounding like a lunatic right now, Brad.
Fries in an oven.
You're crazy, Brad.
I don't know. I don't know. I don't know what to say because, I mean, our connection I thought was so strong.
And I can't imagine that something as simple as my feelings about an air fryer have changed your optimism about where a relationship could go.
I mean, I use it every single day. My friends use it every single day. I mean, it's like the best invention. I mean, this fucking guy, like, he doesn't understand how great it is. What's wrong with him?
Okay. Maybe that's like an invitation to teach you.
Bring him to the air fryer side.
Yes, make him a PB&J on an air fryer.
But Brad, do you see how, like, you've clearly touched a nerve for her?
It's not like you've just made a funny joke about air friars.
You've attacked her life.
I'm just so shocked, guys.
I thought you were in the hospital because things were going so well.
You almost put me in the hospital with your comments about that.
Oh, wow.
And that is so dramatic.
I mean, it doesn't even sound like Brad really cares about air friars that much, right, Brad?
I don't believe in them, but who cares?
Like, I'm not going to let it get in the middle of a potential great relationship.
Clearly, it's an important touching point for Megan that you value it because that's how she eats all of her meals.
She wants to cook meals with you in the air fryer.
I mean, if you don't believe in air friars, what's next?
Seasonal candles, fitted sheets, marinating things overnight.
You do not believe in fitted sheets, Brad?
It's her dream home on us.
That's why.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Okay, I think we're putting a little too much emphasis on one kitchen appliance.
I mean, go buy an easy bake oven.
I don't care.
That's not the same.
Wow.
Wow.
Okay, that was a low.
We're joking.
Whatever, you guys are laughing at me, but it's a deal breaker.
What?
But he said you can use your air friar.
He doesn't care if you use an air fryer.
I mean, like.
But he also is like, I don't believe in them at the same time.
Well, he hasn't had her bloom in onion.
You know, he may change his mind.
That's a thing.
You think you're getting invited over to try any of my food?
That's chance.
Oh, he doesn't deserve it.
You'll never taste her blooming onion there, Brad.
Sounds like a euphemism.
Well, it is, in a way.
Well, we went from the most romantic story of all time to air friars burning down a relationship.
Yeah, it was pretty simple.
Yeah, and quick, too.
Under 15 minutes, they're so efficient.
I can't believe I actually imagine myself growing old with you.
You're clearly going to die young from the way you're eating.
Oh, wow.
Wow, that was dark.
I mean, I've got to be honest, if this is the thing that is your deal breaker in a relationship,
dying young, I'm going to be getting out easy.
Oh, right.
So is that a yes then?
I was getting darker.
Should we keep the disses going for another few minutes, or should we just call it here?
Okay, we're going to call it anyway.

You go with it.

He hadn't been on a plane before without his family.
It was so pure.

Man, I need to be a better host, I think, just in general.
particularly for this second date update thing.
Don't make eye contact.
Don't comment.
I know it's true.
Because we kind of got sidetracked on air fryer burns and kind of jokes and put downs.
I never tried to reconnect those two back to their original feelings for each other and what they liked about each other.
I was just sitting back and joining the show, eating popcorn, not being a good host.
I felt like I tried to create some middle ground, at least on the air fryer front, and there was no middle ground to reach.
It wasn't going to work.
They were not.
So weird. I mean, she just wrote him off in that moment and would never change her mind.
Yeah, I actually was kind of shocked that you don't own an air fryer, Brooke. I thought that you were one of the air friars stand.
I hate kitchen gadgets. It's like a thing for me.
Brooks's like, let's just put it over an open fire in a trash can and call it a day.
If you went to the 90s where everyone had like food dehydrators, you'd realize what is dumb mistake.
I am glad.
Seriously, how many banana chips can you make?
But if you want help from our show, I promise, Brooke's willing to help you.
It might not sound like it, but she will.
We're not good here.
You're the one that was apologizing, not me.
Yeah, I am the bad host.
Brooke is the good one.
And hopefully she can help get you a second date.
I mean, if Brooke's the good one, we're all doing.
Reach out to us, email us, we'll call that person who's not calling you back.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
You know you've had a good night out.
If the person you were with wakes up the next.
morning still thinking about you.
Oh, that's so cute.
I know that happens for me because the next morning I'm staring at them through the bedroom
window.
Wait, what?
So they have to think about me.
That's not the way, Jeff.
It's a guarantee.
But for one of our listeners, I'm not sure his strategy worked the way that he wanted because
he left his date with a gift that she needed to open up the next day.
Okay.
You'll hear what it was and how it possibly backfired on him in your
or second date update.
Next.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
The best advice Brooke ever got in radio.
I know this because Brooke mentioned it
after she heard it at a radio conference,
but it was be your authentic self.
Oh, God.
I hate that piece of advice.
What else are you supposed to be?
Just be you and it'll all work out.
Said no one ever.
Okay, it doesn't actually work that way.
And that's Brooke's authentic self right there.
Just showing her anger and aggression, put it in right out in the open.
You can be your authentic self and make a name for yourself is if you're a nepo baby.
There's a lot more work that is involved.
Okay.
Ashton, cut the music.
Cut the music.
Okay.
Do you want me to go on about this because it really chaps my head?
We've got enough of the authentic you, I think.
The same advice I would think would apply to romance, though, to just be yourself, right?
I guess.
Because seriously, too many people are putting up.
fronts when they're trying to impress love interests on dates when actually it's probably a lot better for
you to just drop the act and be who you really are yeah meaning like for me i wouldn't say i love hiking exactly
when i go on one hike every 10 years yeah that's you sticking true to you and apparently that's what
one of our listeners dirk is all about staying true to his real self and finding someone with similar
interests and hobbies as him which is awesome to hear so dirk welcome to the show oh sorry about that
hard intro there. I'm glad you are who you are. Do you believe her when she says that? I do. I believe that.
No, I'm asking, does Dirk believe you? I do. Okay. Dirk and I are on the same page here. He's terrified of you.
So, Dirk, let's just move on. Tell us, what's the name of this woman and where did you meet her?
So I'm calling about a lady named Michelle. Okay. We met at a volunteer charity event.
Aw, that's cute. I mean, already you have some shared interest.
because you're both there supporting the same cause, right?
Yeah, yeah.
It was the young Republicans for grassy change.
Oh, that's good, Brooke.
Come on.
This is awesome.
I thought it was like a charity.
That is a charity.
It's a political movement.
It's different.
Okay, Brooke, can you please?
I thought you were helping people in need, you know.
They're helping politicians in need, Brooke.
It's grassroots.
That's all you have to say.
That doesn't mean anything, Jeff.
No, Brooke.
Okay, Brooke is anti-grass now.
So I'm sorry about that, Dirk. Keep going. You met at this political party.
This shared event.
Yes, there it is.
Look, I was just there doing some networking, and that's why I met Michelle.
Okay.
And we started chatting, and I just felt like a connection.
Awesome. Great. So what did you guys do?
Just nothing out of the ordinary, I would say. You know, we spent a few hours talking at the bar.
Oh, that's great.
We talked about important issues that we care about, you know, obviously.
You know, she was going through some difficulties with her job.
You know, she's a little frustrated.
Yeah.
And so, you know, I try to give her sort of like an impromptu, you know, like a pep talk.
Oh.
About unlocking her, her inner greatness.
Unlocking her inner.
Is that the last self-help book you read?
Wow.
It sounds like it, right?
I do like when I come on the internet and you scroll and you see one of those speeches for like 30 seconds.
It's like, you can do it.
Take on the day.
I'm like, yes, I can.
That's right.
Really, I'm like, you don't know me.
This is so fake in general.
Well, but what a nice, Jen.
for somebody to do to someone who's clearly struggling with their job to, like, offer some words of
encouragement. That must feel good for her. See, I'm actually, I'm a professional motivational
speaker. That's what I do. Oh. Oh. So you were working well on your date. Did she have the
response you were hoping for? Um, yeah, I mean, it was towards the end of the date and it looked like
maybe she was just getting tired anyways and thinking about her job is never fun. So we kind of
decided to like wrap it there. So I figured, you know, I'd walk her. So she called the
She wanted it to be over after the motivational speech.
I don't think right after.
I think it was just already kind of feeling like it's towards the end of the night anyways.
Okay.
Okay.
I might have overdone it a little bit because when we did go outside, we were walking to her car
and there were some kids on skateboards, you know, and I try to give them some motivational
advice to the young to the kids.
On the fly, just shouting motivational quotes at them.
I said, like, you are your own skate ramp to success.
Oh, God.
All right.
Let's go up and the back down again.
A little surprised that didn't run over and try and beat you up.
This was in the middle of the night.
Flip you the bird and skate off.
But how did you leave it with you and Michelle?
Well, when I dropped her off, I gave her a little keepsake.
Oh.
Oh, no.
What did you give her?
Well, I had written down some inspirational quote.
Oh.
Can you share one of the things you wrote down with her?
One of them was a tomorrow is always bigger than today.
Oh, I don't know what that means, but it sounds.
And the sun will come out tomorrow.
Yes.
Yeah, well, that's a quote from a song.
You can't steal that.
We're going to get sued.
I mean, that's a nice gesture to be like, I'm here to support you and help you out, right?
If anybody did their job that much on a date.
It doesn't matter what job.
That's a good point.
I mean, unsolicited advice is always a little touchy for people.
But I understand his sentiment.
I think that he was trying to do the right thing.
And I think he's such a presser a little bit.
Because, like, how often do you meet someone who, like, is a motivational speaker?
But, yeah, there's a time and a place.
Yeah, you know, I might have been just a little bit nervous.
Just went back to what I know how to do.
Yeah.
Makes sense.
I mean, if she says that's a reason, can you turn it off next time?
What?
What?
Can you stop being who you are?
Like, some people just want to joke about a bad day, not have to hear positive feedback.
He's, like, on.
It sounds like he's on all the time.
I said I was nervous.
What do you hear about that, lady?
I understand that.
I'm asking if you could be more relaxed.
Okay, maybe you should relax a little bit on him.
I mean, he called to figure out what was wrong.
And that may have been what turned her off.
How long has it been since the date happened?
It's been like a week and a half.
Do you know if she read your motivational quotes?
I don't know.
I told her to read them in the morning, but she didn't read.
I don't know.
Maybe she's just waiting for tomorrow to call you.
Yeah.
Since tomorrow is always bigger.
We never actually get to.
tomorrow, you know?
That could have been a little bit confusing to her, so maybe she'll pick up the phone and
we can clear it all up and motivate her to greatness.
Yes.
We're going to ride the skate ramp to success of the second date update.
Again, I don't get it.
Very big.
We'll do it right after this.
Hold on.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
I was going to read some inspirational quotes to motivate my co-host to have a great part too.
Oh, really?
But I'm not sure they can take any more inspiration.
I have been over-inspired.
Yeah, I feel fully inspired.
Not surprised after we heard from Dirk about his first date with Michelle,
where his natural self came out,
and his natural self is being a positive motivational speaker.
He tried to give some encouraging words to Michelle about her job,
which she was complaining about.
He shouted some affirmations at some skateboarding teens.
Even handed Michelle a little piece of paper with handwritten quotes
designed to lift her spirits.
And despite all those good vibes and good intentions,
Michelle has been avoiding him.
Oh, maybe he forgot to put the last one,
call me back as the motivational third quote.
Sometimes you need to really spell it out.
Dirk, you didn't put that in your motivational quotes?
That was not one of them now.
Okay.
Okay, maybe add it for next time.
Have you ever heard from other people in your life,
like on a personal level, maybe you overdo it with motivation?
I'll be honest, I don't have a ton of friends
So, you know, I would say
Like that is not something I've heard all that often
But a lot of people also don't know that much about me
So yeah, there's not a lot of time to make friends
When you're busy inspiring the world
I don't know that we know a lot about you
Other than the motivational stuff
Yeah, that's actually all we know
Yeah
But that's still a positive thing
Like if a guy started going through a motivational speech
You're not going to be like, shut up
Right
Right
He's trying to give me some contact
because I might.
Hopefully not on a date.
I'm just praying that Michelle
picks up the phone and gets us some answers here
because he deserves that.
Right, Alexis?
Yes, right.
Did you even listen to what I said there?
Something we're calling her.
Okay.
Yeah, and I'm ready.
To call.
Let's dial her number.
Hopefully she picks up.
Here we go.
Hey, we're looking to speak with Michelle.
Yeah, this is Michelle.
Hey, Michelle.
Not sure if you're ready for this,
but you're on a radio show right now
called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Hey, Michelle.
We're all here.
Okay.
Hi.
That was such an annoyed sigh.
We get it.
Yeah.
We're already awake.
Yeah.
You may not be.
Sorry.
I know it's early.
So we're just hoping to make this really quick with you because we're doing a segment called a second date update.
Okay.
Okay.
I don't know if you're familiar, but it's where we try to help out our listeners who've gone out with somebody recently.
And they're not getting a call back for a second meetup.
Yeah, sure.
Oh, you have heard of it.
you're familiar?
Yeah, yeah.
Gotcha.
That's cool.
All right.
You want me to speed it up?
I see.
So we're calling on behalf of one of our listeners named Dirk, who you met up with recently.
Oh, God, okay.
Oh, God.
I would love to hear how your date went.
It was kind of weird, I guess.
Weird, you say?
In what way?
I mean, like, we just went to a bar and stuff, but like.
Yeah, we heard, I mean, just to recap.
tap what we know about it so far.
Yeah.
We heard you went to a bar.
You talked a lot about your shared interests.
You opened up to him about your job being a little rough recently.
And then he walked you home through a park by some skateboarding teens.
Yeah.
Did he tell you that he yelled at said skateboarders?
Yeah.
That did come up.
He said that he shouted some affirmations maybe at them.
Not like being negative.
Something about the skate ramp of life.
Yeah.
What did you think about that?
I mean, he's told me that he was like a motivational speaker or something like that.
But like these were just like random kids.
It was kind of like off-putting, you know, at the end of the date that was already kind of weird.
Yeah, but they are skateboarding so you could tell their life's kind of on a downward trajectory.
What is that after doing?
Skateboarding is a valid hobby just like any other hobby.
Okay, name one skateboarder who went on to do great things.
Tony Hawk.
Yeah, what?
He's still, he's retired.
He doesn't do anything.
Anyway, sorry.
But we're not getting sidetracked with the values of skateboarding.
Back to Dirk.
Yeah.
And you,
what did you think about him yelling all the motivational quotes at them?
I mean,
I get it.
He said it's like his job and stuff.
But like,
he said he doesn't do it that much.
I was like,
yeah,
you kind of do.
I was like,
I mean,
you already try to motivate me.
And now you're talking like these kids that are just skateboarding.
And then he's like,
I only have like one client right now anyways.
And I'm like,
okay.
Well,
are you like coaching like a CEO or like,
what's the deal?
I'm like,
and he was like,
like, I'm the client right now.
Oh.
Oh.
What?
Huh?
I was like, you have one client.
And he was like, no, it's like me.
Like, I wake up.
I talk to myself in the mirror.
Like, I record them.
Like, motivational speeches are really helping me.
So he motivates himself every morning and he considers himself his own client.
Yeah, no.
Like, you know, I was like, I'm a great client to myself right now.
And I'm like, what?
It's ultimate.
Bad client?
It's ultimate job security.
You know that you're not going anywhere.
Yeah.
Yeah.
I was like, fine.
I was like, I get.
Maybe you're just quirky or some.
Like, I don't know.
And I was like, can you just tone it down?
And then, like, he dropped me off and, like, wrote a bunch of quotes down for me when I was in the bathroom.
And then I, like, I, like, he left and I just sat there like, was I just, like, punked?
I was like, did I not understand, like, what he was saying?
Okay.
Maybe you weren't reading the quotes the right way.
And you need to hear them spoken directly by Dirk because he is on the other line right now waiting to talk to you and inspire you.
No way.
No, he there is.
That's how this works.
Durkey there?
Yes, hello, Michelle.
Oh.
Hi, Dirk.
So business-like.
It makes me a little sad to hear that you didn't have a good time.
I want a fine time.
Do I not get it, though?
Like, are you actually your own client?
Or am I confused?
Yes, I am a motivational speaker.
At the current moment, I am my only client.
But I will.
Like, what am I supposed to do with that?
I think maybe Dirk she's a little confused, because how can you call yourself
a professional motivational speaker
if you don't actually speak
to anybody else except yourself.
If you don't get paid, I think that's a part of
professional. You could be aspiring
motivational speaker. That's a good
maybe title for you, an aspiring motivational speaker.
Well, I did have
two clients in the past.
Okay. They were paying clients, but they could
not afford my rates. Which is
why I had to drop them. Okay.
So you charge a lot on top of all of this.
But you can pay for your own rate.
Like, you can afford yourself.
Yeah.
I have a good deal worked out with myself.
Okay.
Okay.
That's nice.
Friends and family discount there.
Do you have another job?
This is currently my main focus.
I am writing a book about my experience of coaching yourself.
What's the title of your book?
I'm writing two books.
First book is going to be called Starts with Yourself.
Oh, that's a good title.
It starts with yourself.
And then the second book is, if you can't say it to the mirror,
Who could you say it to?
There's no way you're a real person to.
It's like, for you...
Why are you feeling so inspired by what he says right now?
Can you take this from somebody else?
Can you not stop?
We kind of talked to Dirk about that already.
Like maybe tone it down a little bit, Dirk, and show her other sides of you outside of the motivational speaker part.
Impressor in other ways.
Like, who are you?
You know, like, what do you love to do?
What do you care about?
I love motivating people to.
be the best.
There's no way.
Okay.
Well, I'm pretty motivated to get off the phone now.
Yeah.
What about you, Jeff?
I don't like that we're all giving up on Dirk for trying to be himself, but...
I don't think he's trying to be himself.
I think that's the problem, Jeff.
He's trying to be a version of himself that he wants to be.
He's not being who he is, right?
He's not ever turning it off.
Like, if you're on all the time, you're not being your authentic self.
That's the title of my new book.
That's a really long title.
Yeah.
Well, Derek, you have some competition.
in the literary world coming up with Brooke here,
but I'd still like to get you another date.
I mean, I know this is a long shot,
but we would offer to pay for a second date for you, Michelle,
with Dirk, if you're willing to give him another chance.
And you said you liked him outside of that, right,
outside of the too many inspirations.
Let me ask this.
Do you guys think that you would feel safe in a room alone with him
at this point after learning all this?
You should ask that question to yourself in the mirror,
like it says in his second book.
Yeah.
Look, you already read this.
the book. This is freaking nuts. Like, no, I'm sure I'll read about him in the news one day, but I see I'm out.
Yes. One of the most inspiring leaders that this country has ever seen.
I think he's the opposite of dangerous, but yeah. I don't. Dirk, it's sounding like it's a no from
Michelle. Do you have any last words for her anything to motivate her or us or our listeners
inspire us? It's okay. Just look in the mirror. It starts with you. Yep. That's right.
I like that. Okay. That's good. So it wasn't the best match this time, Dirk. But you
keep at it, and there's definitely going to be a woman out there
who appreciates a little bit of motivation in their life.
I believe so.
Okay, I think the key there is a little bit.
A microscopic amount of motivation.
That's what we need to leave with, Dirk.
Thank you.
We crush the spirits of a motivational speaker in one second day of update.
Amazing.
If we weren't going to do it, his only client was.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
