Starting point is 00:03:56 what is the right play spill my drink on them I'm just going to say make eye contact and say hi and then spill the drink you could do what Brooke does open up her purse and say hey I got some free jerky
Starting point is 00:04:10 I bought off a rando in the street one share stick and her purse is huge and she's like hop in everybody knows jerky stands on the side of the highway are the best they actually are
Starting point is 00:04:20 she's right it has a surprisingly high success rate or you can do what one of our listeners did when she saw a cute guy And even though her move was a little unorthodox, apparently it worked. Okay. And you're going to hear it in your second date update right after this. Second date update.
Starting point is 00:04:40 For a date, would you rather be silently ghosted or blatantly canceled on? Yikes. I mean, at least you would know if you're blatantly canceled on. Yeah, but silently ghosted, I can make up my own excuse. Like, I'm too perfect. Yeah. See, that's definitely. Definitely. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:04:58 Is that what you do? I like that. When you're ghosted, there's still that like glimmer of hope that maybe they got the wrong bar. Or maybe they got arrested. Or their phone broke. Yeah, because they fell down a manhole and they can't get out. Oh, that's it. You can invent a story for yourself there that makes you feel good. But today, one of our listeners, Jillian, thought she had a second date locked down until she got one very strange last minute text calling it off.
Starting point is 00:05:25 And now she's really confused. and needs our help. Gillian, welcome to the show. Hi, thank you. Hi, my interest is so piqued. I want to know what that text message said. It sounds like someone was direct and you're confused. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:05:37 So let's start at the beginning of your story. How did you meet this guy? What's his name? His name is Zach. Okay. Where did you and Zach meet? So we met at a bar. Oh, in real life.
Starting point is 00:05:50 In real life. Yeah, I know, right? Crazy. So it was like last Friday night, I had been planning on staying in, like, not going out at all that night. That's when it always happens, right? I know, right. Which means that you weren't looking your best.
Starting point is 00:06:05 You're probably kind of a mess, but yes. Okay. It's a little harsh. I don't know. I don't mean that in a mean way. I was looking cute. Oh, okay. That's just me then.
Starting point is 00:06:14 I can't relate, Brooke. My bad, my bad. Yeah, then I had this, like, feeling after I got home from work where I was like, no, you know what? I actually don't want to have a cozy night in. I want to go do something. Okay. Oh, that's a good feeling.
Starting point is 00:06:27 I always have the feeling to go in, but when you get the feeling to go out, that's so fun. You're bringing the good energy. Okay, so where do you go? So I call my girlfriend. We go to a bar kind of by my place, and we're just hanging out, and then I see this guy. And I, like, I don't usually make the first move, like, ever. But I was kind of, like, listening to their, not listening to their conversation, but I was at the bar trying to get a drink. I thought you were going to say, but I was kind of drunk, so I did it.
Starting point is 00:06:52 Yeah. No, no. We're right there. They were talking. about the movie Wicked, and I had just seen it, and their opinions were, like, totally wrong. So I jumped in to tell him why he was wrong, but also just, like, to flirt with him. Okay. Man loves to be told they were wrong right off the back.
Starting point is 00:07:11 Don't argue about a man with Wicked either. I just love that it was two guys arguing over Wicked together. I know. That's cute. I feel like I already know why he's not calling you back. But go right. You know me, too, Jamper. No.
Starting point is 00:07:23 She was being playful. Come on. Yeah, if you, like, touch their arm and stuff, then they love an argument. So anyway, we ended up talking for a while. We went to another bar together, just the two of us. Oh, you just your girlfriend. Okay. That's good then.
Starting point is 00:07:39 Yeah, well, she was kind of done. She was like, yeah, I came out for you. So if you're good, like, bye. And we had plans for a second date. We were going to go to this bar that has ski ball, and I was going to beat him at ski ball, and it was going to agree. Oh, my gosh. So you guys even talked about where and when and all of it. Yeah, all of it.
Starting point is 00:07:57 And so then here's the crazy part. That morning that we're supposed to go out, I get a text from him that says, I'm on to you, dates off. On to you? On to you? I'm on to you. Yeah. What does that mean? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I texted him back and I was like, what are you talking about? And then he just didn't answer me. Does he think that you're in a relationship or something? That's the first thing that I think. Oh, yeah. We should have asked. Are you currently with somebody? No.
Starting point is 00:08:25 No. Okay. She's like, yeah, I'm married with six kids. What is that an issue? What's wrong with that? And that's so strange, too, because you don't have any, like, it's not like you can ask his friends. You don't know anybody that he knows.
Starting point is 00:08:36 Yeah. You know? Right, exactly. If you Google search your name, is there like a weird news article that comes up of somebody with a shared name? I don't even know if he knows my last name to Google me at all, but also, like, I don't think anything crazy comes up. She's like, my last name's Dahmer.
Starting point is 00:08:50 I don't understand. And I swear, I paid to have all those articles to leave. It's scrubbed off the internet, so. Huh. That's a mystery. This is a true mystery. Yeah, my best guess is that maybe one of his friends, like, thought I was someone else, that they recognized me, you know, like dark bar.
Starting point is 00:09:08 I don't know. Oh, yeah. You know what? That's happened to my friend group before. Oh, really? I thought she was some other girl, bro. Nevermind. It could be that.
Starting point is 00:09:16 Like a girl from the dating apps or something like that. Yeah. I'm on to you, it was just so bold. I know. And that you don't follow it up. Like, if you're going to accuse, just tell me what I've been. Tell me what I've been accused of. Yeah, it's just so frustrating.
Starting point is 00:09:27 Like, I've texted him a few times being like, hey, I don't even need to go out again. I just want to know what are you upset about? And I don't get anything. Well, and you need to know for future dates. Because what if other men say the same thing, and you still don't know what the, you know. You're like notorious and you have no idea how.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Unless you're purposely using him for something. Just tell us now. At least his mask texting him makes you sound super laid back and chill. So he has nothing to complain about. when we call him now and try and ask him why he didn't follow through with the second date that you had already arranged with him. Yeah, when we asked him what the hell
Starting point is 00:10:01 that text message meant, Jeffrey? Let's really pile on and tell him everything he's done wrong in his life. And his opinions on wicked suck. Yes. Oh, God. We will beat him into a poll when we do your second date update
Starting point is 00:10:13 coming up right after this. Second date update. I can't believe we never caught the nursery rhyme connection. What? Because our listener Jillian met a guy named Zach Zach and Jill
Starting point is 00:10:26 Zach and Jill You mean Jack and Jill Yeah but it sounds It sounds pretty close Okay Someone flunged preschool in this room And it wasn't me Okay
Starting point is 00:10:38 Because it was definitely not Zach Stop trying to rhyme Joe Okay sorry for trying to draw a connection I thought it was a cute story They met at a bar They were drinking pails of white claw together Is that how the nursery rhyme goes?
Starting point is 00:10:50 Yeah Jill said great to another date and Zach canceled last second. Oh. Okay. And that's where we are today. Like a total jerk, Zach reached out to Gillian the day of their second meetup and said, I'm on to you. Date canceled.
Starting point is 00:11:05 So Zach just is fetching a pail of water right now. No, he's rolling down a hill, I think. I thought it was White Claw. Oh, come on. I got the nursery right now. The whole thing is confusing, especially to Jillian, because there was no explanation for what he meant by I'm on to you. It's so accusatory. I mean, the thing is, is that although, Jeff, you're calling him a jerk, he thinks she's a jerk is what it sounds like.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Yeah, but we don't know why. Exactly. I'm on to you. We'll raise an eyebrow to anybody. You can walk up to me and say that right now. I'd be like, what. You feel guilty. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:36 No matter what am I doing. My guess is that he's going to be coming in hot. I know. Like a text like that, it's not going to be a good explanation. I just thought it's, what if it's his tagline? What if he answers it? Like, I'm on to you. Hello?
Starting point is 00:11:47 You know, like, what if that's his thing? That's his go-to guy for it. Oh, no. Yeah. You probably don't want to end up with him. Yeah, then we hang up there. Yeah, probably not. Dial his number, see how he answers the phone if he picks up and hopefully get an explanation.
Starting point is 00:12:01 Are you ready? I'm ready. That would be great. Thank you. So that was a question just to myself. I'm ready. Please don't go, Jeff when he's talking to Jeff. Okay. Hello.
Starting point is 00:12:18 Hey, is this Zach? Yes, who's speaking? Oh, interesting. Hey, Zach, welcome to the show. What is this? Hello? Sorry, sorry for that she was so flirty with that question. This is a, they're a radio show.
Starting point is 00:12:35 We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. This is a segment called Second Date Update. Okay. You could help us because we have a listener who you met up with the other night. Her name is Jillian. You guys met at a bar Oh my God Are you joking?
Starting point is 00:12:54 No Yeah She keeps texting me Yes Right I can hear you confused Can I tell you what we know From what Jillian told us
Starting point is 00:13:04 Because she said you guys Met at the bar the other night You hit it off Ended up separating from your friend group To just hang out one on one And then arranged a second meetup Had it all planned out Until the day of
Starting point is 00:13:17 She got this cryptic text from you saying, I'm on to you. Yeah. Wow. Okay, so she told you a lot. Yeah, because, I mean, honestly, she has no idea what you're referring to in that text message. Well, I can explain that.
Starting point is 00:13:33 That would be great. Because she just does not understand what happened if she did something wrong. We're just trying to give her some clarity. We asked, are you in the middle of some awful dealings? And she's like, I am not in the midst of evil. You know what I mean? So she has no idea what you're talking about. Okay.
Starting point is 00:13:47 So the day of the next date, I went back to the bar that we had met at. And this bartender recognizes me. And he says, hey, are you hanging out with Jillian again anytime soon? Oh, they know her at the bar? Like she's a regular or something? Okay. Well, that's what I was thinking. So I say, what's going on?
Starting point is 00:14:10 How do you know her? And he says that she calls the bar, like, every night asking if there's any cute guys. there. You can do that. Oh, really? This is world just opened up. Are you serious? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:14:25 She calls it ahead of time just to see if it's worth her time to go down there? Yeah, not just that place. Apparently, she does that all over town. How do you know all over town? That's what the bartender said, so I don't know. So are you upset that you were the cute guy that the bartender reported on? It is kind of a compliment. Or the fact that she calls the bar every single night going out there.
Starting point is 00:14:46 Yeah. She doesn't go to the bar. every night, though. Unless there's cute guys. Unless there's a good rating. Fair enough. That's why she decided to go from, I'm staying home, to I'm going out. Oh, right. It was worth her going out for it. That's a compliment. She said that to you?
Starting point is 00:14:59 She mentioned that the night that she was going out and met you, she was considering staying in. But something changed her mind, and she wanted to go out that night instead. Okay. So... Turns out that something was a phone call to the bar to ask if there's any good-looking guys there, but we didn't know that. Why does that make you so upset?
Starting point is 00:15:17 set? Well, I'm just another cute guy at a bar to her and it's just kind of shady that she is talking how spontaneous this whole thing was when really she kind of planned the whole Oh, that's interesting. So it feels like you were deceived a little bit. You're saying it's nice to be the cute guy, but now
Starting point is 00:15:36 it's like you don't feel special because every night there's another cute guy. I don't know about that. I just feel like it's weird someone pretends they just met you randomly when they didn't. It's like acting a bit. Yeah, yeah. Exactly. I didn't feel special at all. Pretty weird to me. Now you should feel special you're on a radio show.
Starting point is 00:15:51 Yeah. She calls us every day, though, do this. I'm kidding. I'm kidding. No, she doesn't. She's never called us before ever, actually. She specifically reached out so that we could get in contact with you to find this information out. That should mean something, right?
Starting point is 00:16:06 I guess. I mean, now you have your reason, though. Okay. Well. Thank you for that. And we're thankful, but who I think is more appreciative is actually Jillian, who is on the other line listening to this conversation. It does sound like she's, like, always on the other line. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:21 Just in case. She's the only one actually making phone calls these days. Jillian, are you there? I'm here, and I have quite a bit to say in response to that. Oh, no. Coming in high. Good things? Not a, I'm sorry?
Starting point is 00:16:33 Well, maybe. No, I'm not sorry. What did I do wrong? Listen, first of all, I do not call them every night. Like, Friday and Saturday nights. Have you important nights? Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:16:44 And, like, listen, if I'm at home, I don't want to have to, like, put on pants and like makeup and so far you know like just to go to a bar when there's nobody there and so I'll call be like hey he's it popping there are a lot of guys there what's going on but but I was not lying to you guys when I said I almost never approach anybody oh she did mention that to us Zach I mean yeah are you still there Zach yeah I'm not sure what to believe anymore I mean she's saying one thing to you guys the bartender says a different thing to me so I don't out. This is all kind of shady. Dude, it would have been such a good pickup line to walk
Starting point is 00:17:21 up to him and be like, hey, I called ahead of time and they said you were here. You're hot? I don't know if that's going to go for that well. I think it would. Yeah, you're right. Maybe I'll just say it. No, I asked for hot guys, and they delivered you. I'm so happy.
Starting point is 00:17:37 Do you call us and tell us how that goes through? It's not as romantic to a guy's year as you probably think. I don't think anyone's looking for romance at a bar, Jeff. They're just looking to talk more. Well, clearly someone who is looking for romance is Zach, and he feels like he's not special, that he's just one of many guys. You would have taken any cute guy at the bar that night, and he just happened to be there. That is absolutely not accurate.
Starting point is 00:18:00 I can see why he would think that, but it's so not true. Okay, well, that's good to hear. And we do appreciate you coming forward, Jillian, and actually admitting that you did this, because I think a lot of people would deny it or try to, like, be like, no, I've never done that. You told us you were going to stay in, but you had a special feeling, and the special feeling was a call to the bar asking them to scope out hot guys for you. Which Alexis is definitely picking up in her own. I think every bar should just start posting who's there online at this point? Before you go in.
Starting point is 00:18:30 Zach, you should feel special. The bartender said there were lots of cute guys, but you are the cutest and you're the one I talk to. Oh, look at that. Stand out. You're a standout cutie, Zach. It's just strange to pretend like it wasn't all set up. Well, now that all the information is out there, can we book Ski Ball again and actually follow through with the second date that you had already planned for each other before this misunderstanding? I mean, if anything, Zach, it shows what a on-top organized woman she is.
Starting point is 00:18:58 Yeah. She's definitely got her life organized. And if you guys start dating, she'll call the bar and make sure it's all ugly guys next time she goes. That's a good point, Jose. I haven't called the bar since I met you. Oh. It's been one full weekend. All right. I mean, I'm willing to try again.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Okay, really? Yay. Wow. That was so heartfelt, Zach. I really buy it. I know. I wonder if this is like setting her up to get stood up now. Because, Zach, if you actually agree to meet up with her, we will pay for the date. Yeah, I'm in. Okay.
Starting point is 00:19:29 Again, though. It just feels like very, like you're brushing us off. The guys in the room can feel something's weird. I don't expect big reactions from men anymore. Zach, be honest. It doesn't sound like you're actually going to call her, are you? Yeah, probably not. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:43 Oh, come on. I mean, look, now they're both ghosting each other. Oh, they're perfect for each other. Oh. I think he ghosts it twice. Yeah, him twice. Two ghosts make a right. It's not it.
Starting point is 00:19:55 I think it is. Zach and Jill, that's how the fairytale ends. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. For almost a decade, the murder. of an 18-year-old girl from a small town in Graves County, Kentucky, went unsolved, until a local homemaker, a journalist, and a handful of girls came forward with a story. I'm telling you, we know Quincy Kilder, we know.
Starting point is 00:20:28 A story that law enforcement used to convict six people, and that got the citizen investigator on national TV. Through sheer persistence and nerve, this Kentucky housewife helped give justice to Jessica Curran. My name is Maggie Freeling. I'm a Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist, producer, and I wouldn't be here if the truth were that easy to find. I did not know her and I did not kill her, or rape or burn or any of that other stuff that y'all said. They literally made me say that I took a match and struck and threw it on her. They made me say that I poured gas on her. From Lava for Good, this is Graves County, a show about just
Starting point is 00:21:12 just how far our legal system will go in order to find someone to blame. America, y'all better work the hell up. Bad things happens to good people in small towns. Listen to Graves County in the Bone Valley feed on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. And to binge the entire season ad-free, subscribe to Lava for Good Plus on Apple Podcasts. I'm Jonathan Goldstein, and on the new season of heavyweight, I help a centenarian mend a broken heart.
Starting point is 00:21:54 How can a 101-year-old woman fall in love again? And I help a man atone for an armed robbery he committed at 14 years old. And so I pointed the gun at him and said this isn't a joke. And he got down, and I remember feeling kind of a surge of like, okay, this is power. Plus, my old friend Gregor and his brother try to solve my problems through hypnotism. We could give you a whole brand new thing where you're like super charming all the time. Being more able to look people in the eye. Not always hide behind a microphone.
Starting point is 00:22:31 Listen to heavyweight on the IHeart radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I swear, sometimes you can just tell when somebody isn't fully into it and they're just saying yes to go along with peer pressure. I wanted him to be into it. Yeah. I know, but there was something in his voice. I was like, yeah, yeah, sure.
Starting point is 00:22:55 I mean, he was still the hottest guy in the bar. Yeah, I mean, maybe that's why he doesn't care he has options. Oh, I didn't think of that, bro. But if someone's not into it, you don't want to go along with it. No, that's true. Honey, will you marry me? Fine. Oh, it's so romantic.
Starting point is 00:23:12 The deep breath. No, the great thing about it is both of them were actually honest with us in the end. She admitted that she calls ahead to bars to scope cute guys out. He admits he'll say yes to dates when he doesn't really care to actually meet up with him. I just have so many questions for the bartender. Does she tell him her type? Does she give photos? I need to know more about it.
Starting point is 00:23:32 What does she get out of it? She could tip more? Well, it's a guy. It was a guy bartender. Okay, but still is he making money? I have so many questions. He just gets somebody else to come to the bar. More bodies are better.
Starting point is 00:23:43 And that's better for him. Bars are always looking for more women. Always. All the bartenders out there, make sure you text in to 7-8-5-9-2 when you have cute guys in there, so Alexis knows where to be and when to go. Even if it's 9 a.m.
Starting point is 00:23:55 Yeah, she'll be there. I want to clarify what cute means to you. That's also true. If you need help with your dating life, email the show, we'll call that person who's not calling you back. And go check out all of our second dates, up where our podcasts are at Brooke and Jeffrey. and Jeffrey in the morning.
Starting point is 00:24:11 Hey, kids. Today, we're all going to learn the difference between a share and an overshare. Oh. Okay, so I'm going to say something, and you tell me if you think it's a share or an overshare. Okay. So, I started doing yoga last week, and my body feels great. Yay, that's a share. That's a share.
Starting point is 00:24:34 That's a share. Good job, everyone. All right. Now, how about this? Now that I'm in yoga, I am so flexible, I can clean out my ear using my pinky toe. That would be a... That's a no... I still like it as a share, but it's an overshare. That's an overshare.
Starting point is 00:24:55 We don't cheer overshares. We don't want to do that. Now, if only our listener had had that lesson before she texted a guy after their date. We wouldn't even be in this position, but we're going to hear. about the text that probably said a little bit too much in your second date update right after this. Second date update. You know, researchers say what you text a person after a good first date can actually be
Starting point is 00:25:23 more important than the date itself. Oh, yeah. I mean, you do look forward to it. That is not helpful for people who really overthink that text, Jeff. I'm just saying, like, for example, if you were to text, hey, I had a great time with you tonight. That's always good. Also, I accidentally took your fork from the dinner for a DNA test.
Starting point is 00:25:41 Wait, no, that's not good. It might not go over quite so well. You just leave it as I took your fork and you leave the DNA test off. You just say I had a great night. Just try not to overthink it. That's all I'm saying because one of our listeners, Carly says she had a text exchange with a guy after they went out. And it could be the reason she's not getting called back. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:26:04 Now, we're going to get to that and talk about the text in a little bit. But first, Carly, welcome to the show. Hey, everybody. How's it going? But first, Carly, we want to hear the good part. Yeah. And I don't ask this a lot, but how important is it for you, Carly, to get a second date here with this guy? Is it a lot like a yay, nay, or hey neighbor type of situation?
Starting point is 00:26:25 Hey, neighbor? Yeah, that's the media. Is it a yay, nay, or hey neighbor? Where are you on the important scale? No, no, it's a yay, obviously. Okay. Why would you not do one through ten? No, that's not as fun as gay, nay, hey, neighbor.
Starting point is 00:26:39 We only do fun stuff on our show. I want to play. This guy is a yay. Tell us about him and how you two met. His name was Blaine. I was at Top Golf with some friends. I was there for a friend's birthday party. Oh, that's great.
Starting point is 00:26:53 And a great place to meet people. Yeah. Yeah. Unless you have that form. I never want someone to see me. There. No, but even then. I'm sure someone would be like, try to help you.
Starting point is 00:27:02 Yeah. You guys love to show you all that. I don't like to. Reach around and just. show you how to do it. Is that what Blaine did for you? So, like, he was there with a group of guys, and he were in, like, the next all over. So we were just talking when it wasn't our turn, and, like, we hit it off.
Starting point is 00:27:17 Cute. Uh, hit it off. That's not. Well done, Carly. She doesn't have a fun. The ironed at me? Hi-five, Jeffrey. I want to hear about the game.
Starting point is 00:27:29 I knew you would. Brod, you got a pun? Okay. I would. Oh, there is. But I don't know. I'm sorry about that. Oh, I missed that.
Starting point is 00:27:37 I already said that joke, but that's okay. Carly, keep going, so you guys hit it off. So, like, how, yeah, how he asked me out, I thought it was kind of cute because he gave me his number on a golf ball. Like, he wrote it down there with the Sharpies. Oh, that's cool. Oh, actually. Is it bad that I'm already thinking if you got married, it would have to all be golf theme now. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:55 Oh, bro. This guy isn't even calling her back yet. Let's not start making the wedding plans and choosing the plates and everything. That's true. Okay. So, uh, that sounds really nice. Did you guys end up hanging out? Yeah. We said we were going to hang out next Friday. So we kind of planned that even before we left. But then we were texting and I was like, I wanted to see him sooner. So I moved it up to Tuesday. Also, don't waste a Friday night. That's a good call.
Starting point is 00:28:20 It's a whole chapel Rhone song about it. I'm just saying. Don't waste a weekend night on a guy. Somebody's jaded over there. All right. Okay. So you moved it up to Tuesday. How did that go? Yeah, it was a really good date. I got to know a lot about him, like where he grew up and like what's important in his life. And, you know, he's a. into sports and animals. I love animals. Okay. So wait, I'm sorry. Were you guys just at dinner? Is that what you did on Tuesday? Yeah, like dinner drinks. Okay, cool. Way to downplay it, Brooke. No, I'm just trying to set the scene. That's all he did. You just did dinner.
Starting point is 00:28:49 Okay. How'd you feel after that hangout? I mean, I felt great. Like, he seems like a really great caring guy. And we did end up kissing. Ooh. All right. How was the kiss? Yeah. Oh, it was really good. Oh, look, she's smiling. She's saying it. That's sweet. That's great. You did say the one thing that you're worried about that could have stopped you from hanging out again was your text message exchange afterwards. Can you get into that? Or just read it? Well, it's sassy today.
Starting point is 00:29:17 Just read it? I don't know how long it is. Just give us the vibe, I think. Yeah, I mean, you know, like sometimes when your friends will ask you out to some expensive place and you're just not in a place to do that. So I just wanted to be honest and let him know where I was at. So I did tell him that I was a little short on my rent this month. Oh, okay. How did you jump from that was a fun night to be short on rent? Maybe you need the text brand.
Starting point is 00:29:42 I thought you were just going to say, hey, our next day, let's not do top golf, maybe something a little lighter, you know, like, didn't he pay for dinner? Yeah, he paid for dinner. Okay. She's just sharing, I think. She's trying to, like, be honest
Starting point is 00:29:54 and be like I'm in a vulnerable place in my life. I totally get that. I'm just curious how you brought it up. Like, is it seemed so out of the blue? Yeah, I mean, we were just, like, talked about the date, like, well, what's your week like and what are you doing? And I was just feeling a little stressed because of this. And so
Starting point is 00:30:10 like, it was just sharing like general stuff. No, that sounds normal to me. Like, don't you when you were dating, Brooke, talk about paying rent with all the guys that you hung out with? Like, when's your rent do? This one, mine's due. Well, they were homeless. I think it's good to be vulnerable with people, but I'm wondering if he read it as basically an ask for money.
Starting point is 00:30:28 Oh, yeah. That's how I read it. How did he react to that text? He was like really sweet. And he did send me a little bit of money. I mean like Oh, really? Like that feels like he's an amazing guy who cares. I mean, we've been on one date. I wasn't expecting him to do anything.
Starting point is 00:30:43 He set your money, huh? Wow. Are you taking notes over there? Yeah, that's hard. He set you money and then stop talking to you? Because that's kind of strange. Yeah, what happened after that? Yeah, and then we were supposed to go out again, and now he's just
Starting point is 00:30:57 not responding. Huh. Interesting. Do you think it regrets the money he sent? Like, maybe he sent it when he was feeling bad and then after he thought about he's like ah man that's kind of a weird money for the date and then he ran out I bought a nice gift for a girl and you spent a couple hundred bucks and then they kind of
Starting point is 00:31:13 insinuate they one another and you realize all right this may be the base of the whole relationship I'm gonna back out right now an exchange of money or goods can change the vibe between two people you would know Jeff yes yeah yeah don't ask how much I'm very cold after the exchange I will tell you that even though I'm satisfied
Starting point is 00:31:30 in the moment just leave you know what let's just not get into this We need to call Blaine and figure out where his head is at. That's the most important. We're going to come back and do that with your second date update right after this. Second Date Update. We're in the middle of a second date update with one of our listeners, Carly. Am I saying that right, Carly?
Starting point is 00:31:50 Yeah. Do you want to emphasize the Y more, Carly? Is Carly exotic? It could be. What? The traditional pronunciation of Carly. We're all still recovering from some of the information that we learned about her date with Blaine. Yeah, she shared a lot.
Starting point is 00:32:04 She did. I'll hit the highlights real quick. They had a great meetup at Top Golf. It's where they met. Had a great get-to-know-you date session, followed by kind of an awkward text exchange that involved him sending our listener, Carly, money. Yeah. Because she admitted she was short on rent.
Starting point is 00:32:22 Which is really kind of him. It is. But it does change the vibe. I mean, me just saying it. Yeah, it does. It feels awkward to say they exchanged money afterwards. but he did send her some, and then after that, did not follow through with their plans for another date. I have a question.
Starting point is 00:32:39 I usually don't pipe up this early, but was it a loan? Like, was this something you're supposed to pay you back, or he just gave you the money expecting nothing? Yeah, he didn't say it was a loan. I guess it's not. If he's not calling you back, he's probably. He's the worst loan shark guy. Yeah. Never mind.
Starting point is 00:32:57 I mean, maybe it's just because she didn't send him a formal thank you. Oh. That's it? Carl, you must have said thank you, right? Oh, yeah, of course. Okay, so what's running through your head then? What's going through your mind before we reach out to him? I don't know.
Starting point is 00:33:10 I mean, like, it might have made it weird, but I really, like, I don't know. Yeah. You don't know, but you also made your rent, right? So that's good news. Yeah, but I really like him. So, I mean, like, I just be really bummed if that's the reason, you know? I'm going to tell you, if a guy asked me to help pay his rent, I probably wouldn't call him back. Oh.
Starting point is 00:33:30 Yeah. But she didn't ask. She didn't ask. You hear that? Husband Michael, do not ask Brooke to chip in towards the rent. This is on you this time. It's all on you. All right, but, okay.
Starting point is 00:33:40 Let's just reach out. We'll see if Blaine picks up and hopefully he has an explanation for us. But here we go. Hello? Hey, is this Blaine? Yeah, that's his Blaine. Hey, man, what's up? It's Jeff.
Starting point is 00:33:57 Oh. Just friendly. It's on a first name basis, you know, Jeff. I thought he would know. No. Okay. When has anybody ever known? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:06 No, thanks. Thanks a lot. I'm sorry. Who are you guys? Yeah, I'll explain. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Welcome to the show.
Starting point is 00:34:15 Yeah. Oh, great. No, it's a good thing. Should be. We're calling you for a really fun, exciting reason because we're doing this segment called Second Date Update. And we got an email from one of our listeners named Carly, who says she's very disappointed that you two aren't seeing each other and, out again. Yeah, she really liked you.
Starting point is 00:34:35 Yeah. Okay. Okay. Okay. Does that make you curious? No, not really. Oh. I mean, she's cute.
Starting point is 00:34:45 She's fun. I just not interested in seeing her again. I mean, what else do you want me to tell you? Yeah. That's very polite answer. Cute and fun. Yeah. There's a million of those out there, but look, it would be helpful if we get a little bit of information for maybe the
Starting point is 00:35:02 there's more reasoning why. I don't know if it's too much to delve into this, but I did hear that the two of you guys kissed at the end of your date. And usually when that happens and the lady says she wants to go out again, that's a pretty exciting thing for a guy. The only anger kisses got to Brooke.
Starting point is 00:35:19 Yeah, we had a nice kiss at the end of the date. Okay. Can you give us something here to tell her? Well, okay. After our date, we started texting each other. She said, thanks. had a good time, and then started making plans that she mentioned that she was going to be short on rent next month. Oh.
Starting point is 00:35:39 Oh, whoa, that's new information to us. Wait, we're going to say that. I don't know. Okay. Any chance you sent her money? I guess. Yeah, so I actually did. Oh.
Starting point is 00:35:50 Wow. Oh, I guess we're all acting surprise now. Oh, my gosh. Dude, what a generous move of you. How much? Wow. So, wait, I have a question. Why did you send her money?
Starting point is 00:35:59 I felt bad. I mean, like, I've been short, too, and I just felt like I get, I can help her out. I'm in a decent spot. All right. I asked her what her Venmo was, and I kicked her $200 right away. She mentioned that you were, like, a really good caring guy, so that's clearly coming through. And when you're describing it, too, like, you're not shaming her. You're not making her feel bad.
Starting point is 00:36:21 Like, yeah. Right. Did that make it weird, though, to give her the $200? Not exactly. I mean, I'm what was weird is that she was like, she was very appreciative. She was like, thank you, thank you, you know. Yeah. But then she says, I'm still 800 short.
Starting point is 00:36:36 Oh, she needed a grand. Oh, okay. Yeah. Okay, but good luck with that. Like, bye. Maybe she was just telling you that so that you could run her finances, yeah. Like before, she already said she couldn't pay, I don't know, just talking. There's no reason she should follow up with that.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Yeah, what was going on? She shouldn't have brought it up in the first thing. What was going on with your, in your mind? There's no way I'm giving $1,000 to a chick I just met. And I'm thinking about, like, that's just a bad feeling, you know. It's a whole bad vibe. Yeah. And that's really short on rent.
Starting point is 00:37:06 Yeah. I started thinking, like, does she do this to other guys? It definitely doesn't feel like she's a scam artist or anything when we talk to her. Yeah. Most girls don't at first, Brooke. Oh. Is that how it works? I feel like it's pretty obvious.
Starting point is 00:37:19 Well, whatever her situation is, it's just not something I want to be involved with, I think. Before you make any final decisions on that, I feel like maybe you need to hear from Carly herself because she has been listening on the other line wanting to talk to you. Oh, she's on the phone? Yeah, she's waiting for the other $800. No, she didn't call for that. No, I'm kidding. We didn't even know about the $800 deficit.
Starting point is 00:37:40 So just let's just let Carly talk to you here. Carly, are you there? Hey, yeah, I'm here. I mean, you're acting like it's a big deal to ask a question. Like, I was, you know, and I didn't even ask a question. I was just informing, like, I just told him I was still short. Are you putting it out as a vibe? as an insinuation?
Starting point is 00:37:59 Like, why else would you tell me that after I just gave you $200? You know, like, why else would you share that information? And what's the, what's this thing about, like, now I'm going to have to go to work? What? Is that what you said, Carly, you're not working? She actually said to me, I still got the text. I can read it to you. Oh, that's what I wanted in the very big day.
Starting point is 00:38:19 Yeah, please, help us. That's what I asked her to do. What did she say? Well, no, it says right here. She's like, look, I need $800 more from you or I'm going to have to go to work. Oh. Okay. That's way different.
Starting point is 00:38:33 Charlie, I thought you were trying to be vulnerable with this guy. Who has to go to work? I mean, like, nobody does. I don't want to. Carly, that is crazy. This makes me question everything. Like, how did she even get that top golf? You know, did she pay for it or somebody else pay for it?
Starting point is 00:38:49 You don't have to pay for top golf. What? Yes, you do. If you're at a birthday party, you don't. Jeff, everyone chips in for birthday parties except for you. It's the same thing. when we go to any group thing, and I have to say, Jeff, you have to pay. If you leave before they bring the bill, there's nothing they can do.
Starting point is 00:39:04 Oh, my God, just saying. Just like everything's free if you don't pay. God, do not back this up. Carly, this is not good for you. I just leave you want rent going like a sugar daddy site. Not a normal dating site. Yeah, you don't got to trick people. You can just be open about it.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Yeah. Or just get a job. Why is no one saying? I have a job. It's just a universal rule in life. Why are you being mean? She went to work. She got the money.
Starting point is 00:39:27 She paid her rent, she said. Tell next month. Okay, the person that we really need to focus on here is Blaine. I bet he feels horrible for not coming through for Carly in her time of need. And making her work. And dishing out the $800. Oh, man. What a jerk.
Starting point is 00:39:40 Yeah, I feel so horrible about that. Well, that's what we wanted to hear because here's... No, I'm not responsible for some... Oh, man. Well, here's what you won't have to be responsible for paying for your next date with Carly because we will cover that bill for you. Is that why you called us in the beginning, Carly? She knows.
Starting point is 00:39:57 We're going to cover the check. No. Oh, actually, wait. That made me think of something. Carly, did you move up the date a few days earlier so you could ask him for your rent before it was due? No. Because they were supposed to go out on Friday. Is that why you changed the day?
Starting point is 00:40:10 I didn't remember that. It's a coincidence. Come on, no. Oh, no way. Tuesday is way too specific to be a coincidence, Carly. The 31st of the month, weird. Wow. Carly, I am equally
Starting point is 00:40:27 parts disappointed and impressed by you. Okay, you guys are reading way too much into this. Like, can we just get on with the gift card thing? Okay, jokes on you, Carly. Nobody here reads. But let's do what you said. Let's ask Blaine. Would you like to go out with Carly one more time on Ardime?
Starting point is 00:40:44 I'm not feeling it, no. Oh, wow. I mean, come on. Next thing I know is she's probably going to be trying to sell me some Bitcoin. Carly, do you have some of? Though, because now's the time, it sounds like. No, I don't do crypto.
Starting point is 00:40:59 She has standards. Alexis, she doesn't do any money. She has no money of her own. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. All I know is what I've been told, and that's a half-truth is a whole lie. Hey, Brooke, I'm a little short on play money this month. You rent your clothes, so I'm sure you've got some extra cash. Question mark?
Starting point is 00:44:08 No. Brooke checking her phone. Sent, okay. I'll see how she responds to that. I don't know, hopefully. She's looking at her phone. There it is. Oh, look at that.
Starting point is 00:44:18 She said yes. No, I did it. Oh, I did. I did, I didn't say that. I'm not sending you picks for it. You know what? Deals off. Inappropriate, Brooke.
Starting point is 00:44:28 Okay. No, I'm not. Brooke. No, you're saying me picks? Gross. Brooke, stop it. Okay, you know what? Did she take those earlier? Ready to go?
