Hey, Portlandia fans.
Carrie Brownstein and Fred Armisen here.
The Dream of the 90s is alive in podcast form.
We're launching Podlandia, AEO rewatch, our brand new podcast where we revisit every episode of Portlandia together,
breaking down sketches, going deep on our iconic characters, and pulling back the curtain on how it all got made.
And we'll also be joined by the people who helped bring it all to life.
Guest stars, collaborators and friends, including director Jonathan Chrysall, the mayor himself, Kyle McLaughlin,
legendary musician Amy Mann, and many more.
Kyle is going for it here.
You fully improvised, not just words, but a song.

It's about grief, shock.
In the moment everything changed.
changed. Imagine that. You're in the biggest band on the planet, as Dave Grohl was in 1994 in Nirvana,
and the phone rings, and you learn that your singer, your friend, the reluctant voice of a
generation, Kurt Cobain, is dead. Listen to Disgraceland on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever

The world gets crazier, and Yamanika is here to tell whoever's responsible, you're the problem.
Do you know I just found out who Sidney Sweeney was?

Welcome to it. You're back to Pack Classics this Saturday.
Thank you for being here.
It's Brooke and Jeffrey.
And you have found our official podcast.
Yeah.
And we've been trying to give you some more content over the weekends.
And Jake has been doing this great thing.
We just started last weekend.
Yep.
Where he's putting together a long compilation.
Last week was Old Allen.
Phone tap characters.
Yes.
Which is our phone pranks that we do.
And we did get some comments on that.
Yeah, we got, please keep posting compilations on weekends.
More compilations like this.
What?
Something on the weekend.
Yes.
More.
Well, good news.
Jake also saw those and got the point.
Yeah.
So today, we've got a compilation YouTube video right now at Brooke and Jeffrey of Clover.
Yeah.
And if you don't know who that is, you will.
Who's Clover?
Do you want to describe Clover?
Clover is a military ops man.
You will totally love him.
Yes.
Well, you will love you.
Be frightened of him.
One of the other.
But another prank phone call, phone tap compilation today up at Brooke and Jeffrey.
So definitely go check that out.
Yeah.
And it's all Jose.
So let Jose know how much you love him.
That's always nice to do in the comments.
Your back-to-back classic, start right now.
I'm going to tell you the number one best thing a guy can do
after having a great impromptu date with a really cool girl
is after you say goodbye, go home, and never speak to her ever again.
Wait.
Just cling to that happy memory and take it with you forever.
Quit while you're ahead.
That's what I'm doing wrong, Jeff.
Yeah, because based on that.
our listeners' experiences, if you try to do anything else, it is only going to get worse.
Oh, no. And that happened to the guy in today's second date update. He went home, and unfortunately,
he texted the girl after they hung out. What an idiot. How dare he? And after that one text,
everything fell apart. Uh-oh. What did he send? I'll tell you, it shocked the entire room when we found
out. You're going to hear it in your second date update right after this.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning, second date update. I saw something on. I saw something on
on Instagram recently that basically sums up what I think a lot of our listeners are feeling
with the online dating apps.
It was a guy who says, I think my favorite part of online dating is when you match with
someone and you're talking and it's going great.
And three weeks later, someone somewhere loses interest and you just never talk to them again
and you just keep doing that over and over and over until you're 90 and you're single and you die
alone.
It's so true.
Wow.
What a romantic look.
Brooke, aren't you upset that you got married and missed the peak era of dating apps?
Why did I do that?
Well, we have a guy on the phone who says he also has become pretty frustrated with the online dating experience.
His name is Stephen.
So, Stephen, welcome to the show, ma'am.
How you doing?
Yo!
You sound down.
I am pretty down.
Yeah.
Oh, buddy.
Probably just closed his Tinder app right now before he got on.
So it's not going so well for you, huh?
No, I mean, I just can't meet anybody.
Honestly, I was so tired.
I did something pretty desperate recently.
That's kind of why I called.
Oh.
Oh, you did something desperate?
We like desperate on this show.
What did you do?
Well, I saw an ad online.
It said soulmate psychic.
Oh.
That's a good, catchy phrase there.
Okay.
What does that mean?
For $50, the person was able to draw your soulmate for you.
Draw?
Oh, that's a sketch of them?
That's actually great.
Because then you could see, like, when you see them in real life, then you know it's them.
Why do I feel like they stalk your social media and then draw your ex?
That would be so brutal.
But you're right, Jose.
If you see them out in the world, you could just hold up this photo and be like, see what we're soulmates.
No, Jeff, don't bring a photo around with you.
You just know in your head.
Okay, wait, wait, wait.
You all believe that someone can do this.
Well, if it's a psychic, yeah, Brooke is a huge for a living.
Yeah.
Okay, I'm going to go with, sure.
Brooke already doesn't believe in your soulmate before she even.
knows anything about it.
It doesn't sound like he believes in it either.
Well, hold, we don't even know what the story is.
So you actually signed up and did this?
I did this 20 minutes later.
I get the sketch email to me.
Oh, it's just even over.
It's online.
No, no.
It was a phone conversation.
Oh.
Oh, okay.
Talk to her, and then she draws.
Right.
What kind of questions did she ask you?
Well, she was asking me my interest.
She's asking me, you know.
But she's not asking for a physical description of your perfect woman.
And she's trying to get to know you.
Yeah, exactly.
Okay.
She's asking you about you, but then she's drawing the lady of your soul.
So what did you think of the picture?
So she's very pretty.
That's good.
Shocking.
She didn't draw an ugly person.
That is so weird.
Well, that's very lucky for him.
I'm sure she draws a lot of ugly people for other people.
But what did you do with the photo?
I put it up my refrigerator.
Oh.
Okay.
I don't know.
I didn't know what to do with it.
Yeah.
I guess you're right.
We're going to throw her away.
You're holding up.
I mean, you can put it on your dating app and say, this is what I'm looking for.
Yeah, right.
That's so smart.
You fill in the crack for me.
Well, then anything come of it?
So, like, a month later, I'm at this wedding, and I see a woman there that's like, and she looks exactly like the picture.
No way.
Really?
Yeah.
Yeah.
What'd you do?
Well, first, I try not to freak out.
I'm like, oh, my God.
Yeah.
Well, now you must feel the pressure on you.
So what do you do?
So I build up enough confidence
And I go over there
And I ask her to dance
Oh
Brooke, why aren't you awing yet?
Yeah, bro
This is happening
Yes
Yes, I am excited for you
And what did she say when you asked her to dance?
She said yes
That we're dancing
Oh my God
It's happening
So now you've opened the door
For true love to step through
But the big question is
Did you tell her
About the soulmate photo
That was sent to you?
Well, I told her
I have a surprise for you.
Oh, no.
Oh, no.
You're going to show her?
What do you mean you told her that?
This is sketchy.
I just couldn't hold it in.
It's too weird.
It's too coincidental.
Wait, so that night,
we're still at the wedding reception
and you're going to pull out the picture on your phone?
No, I know.
I didn't even have a copy of it, honestly.
Oh, good.
And I was like, I'll text it to you.
I told her I'll text it to you.
What was her reaction, though?
Did she laugh?
I want to know what the caption was when you texted the photo.
The caption was, isn't this crazy?
This looks just.
like you.
Okay.
Oh, my God.
How long does it take her to respond to your text?
Is it bad?
My first reaction is I have a stalker.
Yeah.
Or are you still waiting for a reply?
Oh, yeah.
She responded.
She's like, wow, that's crazy.
Hey.
But then it was kind of a different vibe from that on.
She's like I could tell.
Something changed now and she wasn't as into me.
Oh, no.
Maybe you have Android because that happens and you sent it and got blurry.
Oh, God.
I do that.
A green bubble?
Yeah.
I don't think that was it.
Yeah.
Okay.
So looking back on the events that unfolded,
do you feel like maybe you shouldn't have sent her the picture?
Maybe.
Yeah, he should have just brought her back to his apartment
so she could have seen it on the fringe yourself.
So at this point, where are you at now?
I mean, what are you going to do?
She woke it back to me, really.
I had to move on from there.
Yeah.
That's good.
Don't do what other guys do.
So did you call the psychic lady again and get to have a new picture drawn up?
I saw how it works, Jeff.
I'm kind of just back on the apps.
I'm like, you know, thinking maybe I need to find out someone older.
But you found her.
So wait, wait, wait, wait.
Are we going to call this girl for you?
I mean, yeah.
Now this has been a couple months, I need answers here.
Yeah, I mean, you need closure, man.
I know.
I, anyone would.
I need closure.
Absolutely.
Okay.
Closure from what?
He met his soulmate Brooke and she's ghosting him.
They dance for three songs.
Okay.
The best three songs of his life?
I feel like we're trying to force something here, but I'll be on board.
Let's say, she'll give us answers.
Yeah.
Did we ever get the girl's name, by the way?
Her name is Zoe.
Okay.
Zoe the soul.
Well, we're going to come back and call your soulmate Zoe
and try and get you your second date update right after this.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
You believe in love at first sight?
Yes, Jeff.
What about?
I haven't seen her yet.
Okay.
So yes from Jose and from the girls.
What about love at first sketch?
No.
Because months ago, one of our listeners Stephen paid a professional psychic to draw him a photo of his future soulmate.
Before he's ever met her, he hung it up on his fridge, and wouldn't you know, just a short while later, he ends up meeting a woman who looks just like that photo when he was at a wedding.
Her name was Zoe, and they danced and got to know each other.
Everything was on the up and up until he got home and texted her the soulmate sketch picture.
She really cooled off after that.
It got me thinking, though, like, how could we help him when we get her on the phone?
And maybe we could say that he drew the picture after he met you.
Just from memory, he's a really good artist.
That it's not like a soulmate thing.
I think he just apologizes and says, I didn't need to worry.
Yeah, that's your answer to everything.
The man should apologize for what he did.
Give it to a good photo.
It has to be flattering.
It works.
I mean, you can't lie.
Like, how long is he going to keep up that he's a good artist?
You know?
It just came to him in a moment of inspiration, you could say.
That's the point.
I'm not an artist.
It was the heavens that just guided my hand and his beautiful face.
Fine, go with it.
Sadly, though, Stephen is back on the dating apps now,
looking for older women and long-distance stuff,
whatever he can get because he's so dejected.
Let's not say that.
But we won't bring that up.
I'm just saying his mind is still wondering, though,
what about my soulmate Zoe?
Isn't that right, Stephen?
It's true.
You've never forgotten about her.
Well, I didn't forget because it wasn't that long ago.
Yeah, but still, a couple months, she could be in a relationship already.
Yeah, that's true, yeah.
Well, I'm glad that we're going in with the positive attitude on this.
So, uh, great.
I promise I will keep trying to be positive.
Nobody in this room is going to believe in love except for me and Jose.
So we're going to do our best.
Let's call Zoe and see what she has to say.
The weight of love on your shoulders.
It must be hard.
It is difficult.
Here we go.
Two rings, she answered.
I knew it.
Zoe,
thank you for answering the phone right now.
This is Zoe, right?
Yes.
Okay, perfect.
Did you know that too?
That was luck on that one.
But Zoe, you're on the radio right now
with a show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Oh.
Hey, Zoe.
Good morning, Zoe.
How you doing?
I mean, I'm okay.
Confused.
Yeah, why am I being cold right now?
Oh.
Well, some might say it's fate that brought us.
to you today, but others would just say
it's one of our listeners named Stephen
who asked us to call you.
No, no, thank you.
No.
Wait, wait, hold on.
Do you remember Stephen?
Oh.
No, I'm not, no.
Whoa.
Wow.
Guys, that picture really worked, I guess.
Okay.
Yeah.
Okay.
So, Zoe, we're doing a segment here
called a second date update
where we're trying to help Stephen
get in touch with you again
because it's been a while
since you've chatted
since the wedding.
Yeah, no.
There's a reason why we haven't
Chatted
Okay
Okay
Do you want to tell us
I mean
It seems like it's very clear
Why you're not calling him
I mean maybe to you
It's clear to him
We don't know what you're thinking
Yeah
I don't think it's clear to him
That I'm not really up for
Him wanting to date my mom
So
What?
Wait
Wait
That came out of nowhere
Wait
Did he hit on your mom
At the wedding reception or something?
As far as I know
He hasn't met my mom
But
I don't
If he told you guys.
Wait, what?
Hold on.
This is a lot.
What we know is that you guys met at a wedding.
You guys danced and had a good time.
Yeah.
After the wedding, he texted you a photo that looked a lot like you.
And we thought that was the reason.
Yeah.
We were calling it back that it freaked you out.
Yeah.
Well, I mean, that was creepy anyway.
But.
So where did your mom come into play here?
Yeah, that's weird.
Yeah.
So at the wedding, he said he was surprised that I was single,
because he thought it was pretty, whatever.
And yeah, and I was like, oh, yeah, it's crazy.
Even my mom's dating.
She's on the apps, whatever.
I laughed about it.
Yeah.
And he texted me that photo, whatever.
But after that, my mom matched with him on one of the apps.
Oh, my God.
Really?
Wait, your mom tells you her matches?
Oh, yeah.
I mean, my mom and I are fairly close, and she showed me who she matched with.
Oh, my God.
Are you thinking that he went and, like, matched with her on purpose?
I don't know that it matters probably to her.
Yeah.
I don't even care how it happened.
It's just the fact that it happened.
Yeah.
Yeah, that's a great point, Brooke has.
Okay.
Well, we don't know everything about how stuff happened the way that it happened.
The only person who has the answers to that would be Stephen.
Yeah, he may not even know.
Because he didn't mention anything like this when we talked to him, but he is on the other line right now waiting to speak with you, Zoe.
What? Why? What?
That's how the segment works.
Stephen, are you there?
This is awkward. Sorry.
Yeah. Did you know that you had matched with her mom?
Yeah. I told you guys, I was like back on the apps and looking for maybe someone older.
Yeah, you said that.
You didn't say you matched with her family members.
You didn't say you went just one generation up.
Also, why has your mom got that young of a dating pool?
You should check her.
She believes in herself. It's inspirational, election.
Let me watch out for the conversation.
competition now. Let mom live. Okay. So you two need to talk about this clearly.
Dude, what is actually wrong with you? Like, you're going to, you're going to call the station and you're going to tell them, like, you're trying to figure out what's wrong.
But clearly what's wrong is you're trying to get with my mother. Like, after trying to get with me.
We didn't know. You weren't responding to me. You're being kind of cold. I didn't know what to do.
Yeah, for good reason. Yeah. The first straw was you sending me that creepy picture anyway. So obviously, I was going to be standoffish. And then
My mom showed me her dating app with you on it.
Oh.
Wait, have you been talking to her mother?
We exchanged the messages.
Oh.
Did you send?
Is a date going to happen between you and Zoe's mom?
Is that on the books?
Well, I didn't want to ruin things with Zoe and I.
Oh, well, he's prioritizing you, Zoe.
Did you send the mom the same picture you sent Zoe?
I'm not going to make that to stick again.
No way.
Okay.
Okay.
He's learning.
Okay.
Stephen, I even showed her the picture that you sent her to me, and she still is into you.
So you guys can just go have to...
Oh, she's still into it, and she saw the picture?
She said she still went to me.
What?
Yeah.
Yeah, you go enjoy yourself.
Oh.
And we found a soulmate.
It's the mom.
Oh, my God.
Brooke, why aren't you cheering with me?
This is so weird.
So you're saying you ship the relationship with your mom and Stephen.
I mean, I don't know what else I can do.
I can't just tell me.
my mom who she can and can't date.
So, like, how am I supposed to
talk to her about that?
Just leave it alone.
So at this point, do we offer a double date or?
I don't know.
I mean, I'm going to default to the love expert on the show, Alexis.
What do you think that we should do in this situation?
I mean, it's, I don't know.
She doesn't know.
That's perfect.
Great idea, Alexis.
I don't know the love expert.
I don't think Zoe wants to sit at dinner with either of that.
Well, she probably should because soon Stephen could be your stepdad.
We have to be around a Thanksgiving table together.
You need to set boundaries with your mom if you got the same age range.
There's got to be a div system.
I mean, we would normally offer to send Stephen out with Zoe,
but I guess Stephen will offer to send you out with Zoe's mom on the first day.
That is so insulting. I am sorry, Zoe.
Why is that insulting?
That'd be great.
Zoe's already turned him down.
He's a free agent.
He can date whoever he wants.
Zoe, will you ask your mom for us, please?
Yeah, no, forget all you guys.
I'm sorry, this can't get any worse.
Oh, darn it.
Actually, I'm actually worried that it can.
Yeah.
Is your grandma still alive?
Because you never know.
Yeah.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
So this is a podcast about video games.
Kind of.
It's also about friendship.
Definitely.
And chaos?
Unavoidably.
Welcome to It's Dangerous to Go Alone.
A podcast where we talk games, culture, nostalgia, and immediately go off topic.
There is no gatekeeping.
There is no skill check.
If you win a game on easy mode, we support you.
If you've never touched a controller, honestly, same energy for some of us.
It's fun, it's chaotic, it's friendship with a loose gaming theme.
And somehow we keep getting away with it.
You should listen.
Stream it's dangerous to go alone on the free IHeartRadio app.
Or wherever you get your podcasts.
What's up, fam? I'm sports journalist Ari Chambers.
Hey, what's up y'all? It's your girl, Sam J.
And we're the host of everyone watches women's sports, a new podcast from Together and Iheart women's sports.
Because let's be real. Women's sports is giving us way too much to talk about these days.
So Kelsey Finler, she became the first female solo rower to go from California to Hawaii.
My first thought is like, what's up with the snacks?
Like, what are we eating?
The highlights, the rivalries, the breakout stars, the moments that take over your entire timeline.
And the conversations that start during the game and somehow keep going all week.
Every week, we're breaking down the biggest stories across women sports.
Naomi Osaka showing out, she beat Sabalinka.
Shout out to you, Naomi.
You get the palm, Naomi.
I mean, you get the harm for that.
Because we're not just interested in what happened.
We're interested in why everyone's talking about it.
Because everyone watches women's sports.
Listen to everyone watches women's sports.
On the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcast, or wherever you get your podcast.
Wow, who knew?
50 bucks on a soulmate psychic picture could work not once, but twice.
Talk about value, getting your money's worth.
I did not even think about that.
It's actually 25 bucks per person at this point.
That's great.
You could call it a family deal.
You really could.
If you think about it, Zoe was just the breadcrumb that led Stephen to his eventual destiny.
Yeah, love still prevails.
The psychic picks big families so that this can happen.
She's asking, how many siblings do you have?
Here we go.
I mean, what if?
I know we're all skeptical, but what if they really are meant to be?
Would that second date, update, update, be the most anticipated one we ever did on this?
this show. They'll turn this into a movie. We will be a part of Hollywood someday. Have you guys not been following the Miley Cyrus family drama right now? No. Oh my God. Her mom Tish got married to a guy that her younger sister was dating. The whole thing is a hot mess. Those two aren't talking. It doesn't end well. I'm just telling you. I heard it's a hot and I like that. It truly is. And we can turn your life hot too. If you email us for help with your dating life, we'll call that person who's not calling you back. Go and check out all of our second day podcast.
wherever you get yours at Brooke and Jeffrey.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Almost time for your second date,
and today a guy had an impromptu hang out
with someone he describes as one of the most beautiful women
he'd ever met before.
Wow.
That's exciting.
Very, but then his phone rang.
Uh-oh.
And who was on the other line made him literally run off.
Oh!
So now he's trying to say.
save it, you'll hear why he had no choice but to ditch mid-hang when we do your second-date
update right after this.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
A guy reached out to us saying he lost his date and his job within 24 hours.
Yice!
That is a bad day.
And so he needs our help.
Specifically, he wants a date with Alexis and a job as our new morning show audio edit.
So sorry editor, Ashley, you're out, found a cheaper replacement here.
Oh, wait, we're not going to pay him much?
No.
I mean, it's the radio.
Yeah, I see.
I'm just kidding.
But apparently Finn hits the guy's name.
He really has had a bad string of luck lately that affected his romantic and his professional life.
So let's talk to him about it.
Finn, welcome to the show, ma'am.
Hey, y'all.
How's it going?
It's going good.
You weren't fired because you were, like, caught with another coworker, a boss or something.
Right. No. Nothing like this has ever happened to me.
Oh, man.
It's ridiculous.
It's ridiculous. Okay. Well, we're very sorry to hear about your struggle. So why don't you start at the beginning and tell us the story of what happened?
All right. So, well, I was a server at this dope restaurant. And I'm working. The bar runs out of limes, right?
Yeah. And so I have to run across the street to this like bodega or whatever.
Yeah, that happens sometimes.
The line is crazy long, and there's only one checkout person.
Oh, the worst.
It's always like an old person, too.
With the cart full of enough food to feed like a family of 10.
So there's this, like, really attractive woman, and she's at the front, and I tell her the story.
I'm like, yo, I need to get back to work.
Is there any way I can cut in front of you?
I just got some limes.
Yeah.
And if you come across the street, I'm going to hook you up to the restaurant.
Oh, sure.
Oh, wow.
That's a great trade-off.
Yeah.
Was she open to that?
Absolutely.
Yeah.
Who would say no?
So I feel like I win the lottery whenever I get hooked up in a bar.
But if I was one of the other customers behind them in line, I would have been like, hey, what about me?
You're cutting me, too.
Do I get free food?
Yeah, I wasn't thinking about them.
They were beautiful girl.
They weren't hot, Jeff.
Oh, yes.
I forgot that rule.
So she lets you cut in line.
She did.
And I was like, rolled through, I will hook you up.
And she showed up like two days later.
Oh, wait, two days later?
Yeah, it was like two days later.
Oh, I thought you were like, you'll come over right now.
That's what I thought too.
Open whenever invite.
Okay.
I would be down if she rolled over right then.
But it didn't happen.
Did you recognize her immediately two days later?
Yeah, she was smoking.
And she sits in like the bar area.
And I tell the bartender, I'm like, dude, hook her up.
like whatever she wants.
However many limes she wants inside of her drink,
give her 20 limes.
She deserves it.
Anyway, she's at the bar and I basically comp her meal.
Nice.
And I tell the bar center and I'm like, yo, I want to go kick it with her for a second.
So like cover me because like she's leaving and I want to kind of seal the deal.
You feel me?
Wow.
You're swinging this calm meal situation into a full on date.
Yeah, but you can't sit down when you're in your working.
uniform too. Right? Like you can
comp a meal, you can go over to the
table and stand up and talk to her, but did you
sit down? No, that's why I
had the bartender cover for me, so I could
like walk her out. So
this is the girl that we're going to be calling. What's
her name? Oh, Sienna.
Okay, Sienna. So you walk
her out to like buy some more time
with her, and how does that go?
Well, this is where it gets a little
complicated. I walk her
out and then I was gone a little, maybe
too long because, like, you walk into a car and then maybe we got a drink.
Like, wait, what?
Anyway, I thought the bartender was covering for me.
You went to another bar while you're on shift?
Well, I was almost done with my shift anyway.
It was his lunch break.
Okay.
The second lunch break.
You can't really be calling it ridiculous that you got in trouble for that.
But, dude, my guy at the bar, I cover him, he covers for me.
I don't know.
Yeah, I mean, I've worked in bars.
Like, usually they do.
But if you were gone for like an hour or two brothers on his own.
And then if a rush comes,
Yeah, then he's got two sections on his own.
There was nobody in there when I left, but like when I got back,
yeah, it was pretty busy.
I know.
It was so many.
Because you'd get phased out of work.
Yeah.
And then you get that last rush of the night.
Okay.
So how did you end up losing your job?
Because of that.
They fired me.
Oh, and you're broding just like, have your back?
He snitched on you or what?
No, he just couldn't like come up with a story.
Got it.
I mean.
And it is on you.
I mean, they're paying you to be on a date.
That's kind of, you needed to clock out first.
I wanted to get a date.
That's the thing.
I wanted it to be a real date.
Wait, did you like ever kiss her or did you get her number?
Like, how did your makeshift date end before you got fired?
And it's so suddenly, like, I got her number and then my restaurant calls me.
I have to race back and then they fire me on the spot.
Oh.
Wow.
They couldn't fire you over the phone.
They had to do it in person.
I think that's probably the right way to do it, Jeff.
Hey, at least you can come back with you to watch you lose your job.
Yeah.
True.
I guess so.
But your email said that on top of your job, you also lost a date, too.
So what happened with Sienna since then?
Oh, yeah.
I haven't heard from her.
Like, I've been texting her.
It's been crickets.
Like, I have no idea.
I mean...
I feel like we vibed.
Like, it was like a really good connection.
Or she was just being nice because you offered her a free drink, bro.
Sometimes, honestly, we think girls like us and they're just being kind.
Or accepting the gift you offered her.
Now that you don't have the hookup for a free meal anymore, what good are you to her?
Maybe she had another date after.
That was her pre-date drink, you know, and then she's like, alright.
Maybe she's in a relationship.
Yeah.
Or maybe she's not even interested in any of it.
Okay.
Well, let's hope that she's just in a relationship and that this can still work when we come back.
Yeah.
Brooke says it's a good thing.
Let's try it when we do your second date up.
We're kidding, bro.
We'll see what she has to say and get you your second date update right after.
this.
All right, thanks, guys.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Second date update.
He's lost his job.
He's lost his date.
Oh, man.
But he hasn't lost his cell phone.
Because he's on the phone with us right now.
That is actually a really good bonus.
Have you thought of that, Finn?
Even if you have absolutely nothing,
at least you still have your cell phone.
And you should be grateful for that.
It sounds like a Liam Neeson film.
Like how you put it.
I think Liam Nason's so old, he doesn't know how to use his cell phone.
You should call him like Liam Nason and be like, I wouldn't find you.
We will.
We'll put you on a date.
Now, look, I know we ran through a lot of scenarios with you, man, that maybe Sienna, the girl that you met, was just in this for the free meal from you, or maybe she already has a boyfriend.
But here's the thing is that Sienna gave him her phone number at the end of their meetup.
And she wouldn't have done that if she wasn't at least a little bit in.
interested in Finn.
Or she's a hard time saying no, because that's what I do.
Well, then give a fake no.
It would have been a fake number.
Yeah, exactly, Finn.
I mean, that must feel a little bit good.
Give you a little bit of hope.
I mean, give me a little hope.
I don't know.
I don't know.
I think the hope is that she looks at this phone call from us is like a grand romantic gesture
and she falls instantly in love with you because of the effort that you put in.
Yeah.
I love where your head's at.
Well, it's not over index on the hope and that she loves everything and falls in love with all of us.
And then...
I already loves us.
Hey, I was on the Hope Train with you, Jeff.
Dars.
Silver lining it hard.
Yeah, it's a little too hard.
Let's pump the brakes on.
I'm on the Hope Train.
Okay, Hope Train just has a few stops.
It doesn't have an express right now.
We need a medium level of hope.
Something manageable for this.
I'm just going to call Sienna.
Hopefully she picks up.
Oh, okay.
Oh, medium.
Medium hope that she picks up.
Okay, here we go.
Hi, is this Sienna?
Yes, this is her.
Okay.
Hey, Sienna.
You're on a radio show right now.
We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Hey, Sienna.
Hi.
Hey, good morning.
Thanks for answering your phone.
You're welcome.
Can I help you with something?
This is a segment that we do.
It's called a second date update, which is where if you go out with somebody and then that person doesn't call you back, we can help try to figure out what went wrong.
And today we're trying to help out a listener of ours named Finn.
Oh, yeah.
Okay, yeah.
You remember him.
I'm actually surprised.
Like, it was a pretty brief meeting that you had with him.
Yeah.
Yeah, it was.
Yeah, a brief meeting across several days.
I know.
He told us about when you met at the grocery store in line and you let him cut.
And then you ended up getting a meal at his restaurant.
Yeah, that was really nice of him to do.
I was surprised.
You waited two days to go back to the restaurant.
So obviously you were thinking about that interaction with him.
Or you ran out of food.
Yeah.
It's a good area.
Whatever it was, we're trying to help him figure out what happened because he told us you two went out, actually, from the restaurant and grabbed the drink somewhere.
He had to rush back and he hasn't heard from you since.
Yeah.
I was really worried about him after he left because he seemed really nervous about all the calls that he was getting from his work.
Yeah.
There's more than one.
Oh, no.
Oh, God.
Yeah.
When he looked at his phone, he saw that he had some missed calls.
from work. And he finally got on the phone. He just seemed really nervous. And then he had to leave
like really abruptly. And I didn't hear from him that night. So I ended up going back to his work
the next day. Like just to check on him to pop in and say hi. Oh, yeah. Well, that was that sweet of you to
go to go. How did that go? Yeah. What was that like? Was it working that day?
No, so I asked the manager about him and he just told me that he's no longer with the restaurant and he couldn't elaborate on why for quote unquote professional reasons.
Oh, really?
Wow, he must have found a better job.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Improvement.
Okay.
Well, that doesn't explain why you wouldn't be like answering any of his texts or calls.
If anything, you probably should have reached out and figured out where he's at, right?
I know.
I would have called him immediately at the restaurant when I was told that, right?
Okay, well, then what happened is the manager asked if I wanted a complimentary drink on the house.
Oh, no.
So I ended up sitting at the bar with the manager.
Wait, you and the manager sat together at the bar?
What?
Yeah.
The manager that?
Oh, my gosh.
So he had an ulterior motive is what you're saying with his complimentary drink.
Okay, managers buy me free drinks at the bar all the time.
They want something.
Okay, yeah, and then we meet up in the bathroom later.
What's the big deal?
No, he was just being a nice person.
And, you know, I came in there looking for Finn and I was worried about him.
So he just gave me a free drink.
So I comforted you.
It's Ben just love more girlfriends.
Yeah.
That's what they always want.
Totally.
Restaurant managers is totally notorious for being really nice people.
Okay.
You guys are sounding really skeptical and hateful over there about the restaurant industry,
and I don't appreciate it.
So I'm sorry to interrupt you there, Sienna.
Keep going.
You were talking to this sweet comforting manager who was worried about you and your feelings for Finn.
Yeah, and wanted nothing else from you.
Yeah.
Okay, so then he asked if things were serious between me and Finn.
There it is.
Well, yeah, he's worried about you.
And what did you say?
He's gauging.
Well, I told him that we had just met the other day.
Okay.
And then the manager asked me out on a date.
Oh, right.
Of course he did.
Oh, and we're all shocked.
To continue the consoling process, because clearly she needs a lot of therapy.
Well, you need a second drink.
Let's do that some other time.
Were you interested in a date with this guy?
I mean, obviously not when I walked in.
Like, I was looking for Finn, but Finn wasn't there,
and I had only gone out with him kind of that one time when he left really suddenly.
So, you know, the manager was cute.
So I was like, sure.
I mean, you're not like invested.
Oh, wow.
So wait.
Have you gone on the date already with the manager?
Yeah.
I've actually seen him a couple times since.
And it's pretty well.
Oh, no.
That is insult to injury.
You are dating the guy that fired me.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh.
Oh, he just laid it out there.
That's a moment.
Hold on there.
Yeah.
Sorry, Cianna.
That's Finn.
He's been quietly listening on the other line.
I couldn't keep quiet.
I couldn't keep quiet.
Really?
I didn't know you were fired.
He fired me for doing the same thing that he did.
Oh, my.
Like, I can't even.
Oh.
Okay.
Finn.
I can tell you're very upset.
I'm sorry.
I got to calm down.
No one is just take a breath.
I know this is a lot for you to process.
Pretty ironic that he's fired for going on a date while on the clock.
And the manager did this.
Hey.
You just got to be the manager.
Is that irony?
Is that the definition of irony?
Well, the manager didn't leave the premises in order to do the date.
That's true.
You don't get your own bar.
Sure.
So, Siena, do you want to talk to Finn here?
I know he's been waiting to talk to you.
So maybe just speak directly to him.
Hi, Finn.
Um,
Hey.
First of all,
I did not know you were fired.
He just said that you weren't there for professional reasons.
Because he let him go.
Well, yeah, I didn't, so I didn't know you were fired.
So I'm so sorry.
But, too, I mean, like giving free drinks, saying like he is a manager,
and he has the authority to do that.
And it sounds like you didn't.
So I mean, he probably should be doing that.
Wow.
She's siding with the manager on this one, Finn.
Wow.
Super nice and he takes care of me and like I can eat there whenever I want.
It's nice.
Honestly, Matt is a, you know, I know I'm on radio.
I'm not going to swear, but he is not a good guy.
He is a piece of, you know what.
Like, the bamboosal deal, he is lying to you.
He's not a good person.
That's really weird that you would say all of that about him because he only has nice things to say about you.
Oh.
Oh.
That guy that I fired is really just a sweetheart.
I mean, honestly, that the manager never outed Finn is getting fired is a pretty...
Yeah.
I mean, Finn, your manager was protecting your image to Sienna.
Sure.
Yeah.
All I can tell you, Finn, is, like, he's been super nice.
He's been super respectful.
And he didn't and hasn't run out in the middle of our date, like, you did.
Oh.
Oh, that is true.
You did go running back to your job, Finn.
And then got fired from him.
I know, man.
It's a hard lesson to learn, but these are the moments in our lives that we look back on.
We're like, you know, do I choose happiness with a woman or happiness at work?
If you really look back, if you would have just stalked the limes, this never would have happened.
Yeah.
I mean, honestly, Finn, you haven't given her a good reason why she'd choose you over him.
Because I'm a good guy and he's not.
Okay.
Well, he's employed and you're not.
Oh.
Yet.
But here's something that Finn does have working for him.
We are going to pay for the next date between you and Finn if you agree to see him one more time.
And he won't be on the clock because he doesn't have a clock to be on.
Yeah.
So you can have brunch, lunch, dinner, dessert, whatever.
His schedule is open.
Yeah.
All for you, Siena, if you say yes.
I can already get some free meals
So I think I'm okay
Oh
Yeah
That's fair
Okay well
Sorry Finn
Yeah you don't have to apologize
At least I have my pride
And I have my dignity
Oh
Do you?
And I got a really good plan
I got a really good plan
Oh wow
I got unlimited minutes
Okay
Okay
Don't flex too hard bro

Okay, so we started with Finn losing his job and his date, and we ended with still no job or date for him.
Yeah, but even worse, the manager took the date.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Hey, we did get him some closure.
How?
Very much so.
So that he knew what happened with Sienna.
And that is all thanks to us.
We did that.
I think he would have been less bitter if he had not known the answer.
You know?
But knowledge is power, and we gave him that knowledge.
So let's congratulate ourselves.
And I'd like to go around the room and offer all of us a lunch date with each other and the station will pay for it.
What do you say?
Brooke, are you in?
Well, if the station's paying, I'm always saying.
