Starting point is 00:00:00 If a baby is giggling in the back seat, they're probably happy. If a baby is crying in the back seat, they're probably hungry. But if a baby is sleeping in the back seat, will you remember they're even there? When you're distracted, stressed, or not usually the one who drives them, the chances of forgetting them in the back seat are much higher. It can happen to anyone. Parked cars get hot fast and can be deadly. So get in the habit of checking the back seat when you leave.
Starting point is 00:00:27 The message from NHTSA and the ad council. I was diagnosed with cancer on Friday and cancer free the next Friday. No chemo, no radiation, none of that. On a recent episode of Culture Raises Us podcast, I sat down with Warren Campbell, Grammy-winning producer, pastor, and music executive to talk about the beats, the business, and the legacy behind some of the biggest names in gospel, R&B, and hip-hop. Professionally, I started at Death World Records. From Mary Mary to Jennifer Hudson, we get into the soul of the music and the purpose that drives it.

Starting point is 00:01:56 Effect Podcast Network, tune in on the IHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you listen to your favorite shows. Hi, my name is Enya Yumanzor. And I'm Drew Phillips. And we run a podcast called Emergency Intercom. If you're a crime junkie and you love crimes, we're not the podcast for you. But if you have unmedicated ADHD... Oh my God, perfect.
Starting point is 00:02:21 And want to hear people with mental illness, psychobabble. Yes, yes. Then Emergency Intercom is the podcast for you. Open your free IHeartRadio app. Search Emergency Intercom and listen now. Brand new second date podcast for you today. It's Brick and Jeffrey in the morning. And I hope you really like this episode.
Starting point is 00:02:38 Yeah. Yeah. I think it was kind of a fun one. You know what? I hope you don't like it at first and then it sneaks up on it. It's your favorite. It's so good. I didn't see it coming.
Starting point is 00:02:47 We do, we definitely do learn a new strategy. I don't know if it's new, renewed strategy for getting a guy's attention at a bar. Okay. It's kind of rom-comy to me. A little cheesy, but it worked for one of our listeners. I mean, it's on a guy. Everything works on. I don't know if this would work if I did it.
Starting point is 00:03:04 But for her, if she pulled it off. Oh, I like that. Okay. All right, before we get to it, what are you seeing on the board, Alexis? Yeah, Hudson McRae said, we've got to fix the comments, guys. Wait, what's wrong with the comments? When did we just start saying that we love the podcast? I mean, duh, we do.
Starting point is 00:03:20 But I want to hear your thoughts on the episode, not for everyone to seek a shout out, Oh, so he wants to be like, I like this part, I didn't like this. Or I can relate in this way or that happened to me. Everyone's just like, oh, I love the show. Oh, this whole experience is great. Boo. I mean, I love a little praise. I'm not going to like that.
Starting point is 00:03:40 But I get what you're saying. A little bit more back and forth in that comment board. All right. Give us more specific press. All right. There's some inspiration for you all. Comment away after you listen to the brand new second date starting right now. Second date update
Starting point is 00:03:55 I want to ask Alexis a dating question but I know that she would never do this so I'll ask a more uninhibited person Brooke with your single days if there was a cute guy how many times would you
Starting point is 00:04:11 attempt to get his attention before you finally gave up and settled for his dad what's the maximum number of times that you would go in? I'm not a subtle person so normally I would just approach the dude and start chatting with them
Starting point is 00:04:26 and then if they push me off then I move on to the next physically have to push you off if the next dude at the bar happened to be his dad then so be it. You're a one strike and it's done type of policy. I mean I take the hint.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Yeah, that's the best way to push it. Well, you're different than one of our listeners who admits that she had to try multiple times to get a cute guy's attention until it finally worked. Oh. So maybe we can all learn a lesson from her. Her name is Angie.
Starting point is 00:04:53 So, Angie, welcome to the show. Hi, thank you. It sounds like you're a more subtle lady than I. Or she's not. We're idiots. Like, you've really got to smell stuff out for us. Yeah, we don't know anything about this guy or how you met him. So tell us the whole story.
Starting point is 00:05:07 Like, what's his name? His name is Jason. And I met him, like, just out at the bars with my friend a little while ago. Okay. And was his father with him, too? Or was it just like a guy's night? It was a girl's night for me I was there as a bunch of my girlfriends
Starting point is 00:05:23 But he was just there with like one other buddy of him So you saw Jason come into the bar Or how did it work? Yeah, I like noticed him come in And when he did I turned to my girlfriends And I was like, oh my gosh, she's so cute They were like giving me suggestions On what I should do
Starting point is 00:05:39 So they were like go order a drink Like over near where they're at the bar Maybe like if he can catch his eye Or you can get a free drink That's what I mean Yeah, yeah That's what I mean A lot of options for you
Starting point is 00:05:50 Okay. So I went up and I ordered, like, right next to him. And I even, like, bumped into him so that I could apologize. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. I mean, I would guess, I don't know, because I'm not a dude, but I would guess that no matter what, he'd be flattered by all of this, right? Oh, yeah. Well, I would think so, but I guess he thought it really was an accident.
Starting point is 00:06:12 Yeah, okay. Or he's not single. Like, you don't know that some random person across the bar is single. Okay. Yeah. So that was strike number one. attempt that didn't work. So I went back to my friends and I was like, well, I guess he's not interested. I did all the what you said. I went to order a drink. I bumped him from behind,
Starting point is 00:06:29 made him spill everywhere. Nothing's working. Get in the line. All of us bump into him. Yeah. Okay. So what was your next try? Okay. So their next suggestion was like to go back up when I finished my drink and order another one, but this time order like next to his friend and start talking to his friend to see if I could make him jealous. Oh, you make him jealous. What? Where are your girlfriend saying? Like, it sounds like an empty bar, and you're the only one going by the next. The empty bar visual does not help. After, like, the third time, they're like, this girl is a drinking.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Yeah, she's got an issue. She should only order by us. Well, the second time, the friend actually did start talking to me, but then I started to feel like he was interested in me. Uh-oh. Backfiring. Yeah. But maybe that would have made him a little bit more jealous if you had started making out with his friend. No.
Starting point is 00:07:13 And then... I don't want to get the situation where I'm breaking brocode, you know? Okay. You're thinking right, actually. I like this. I mean, at what point do you ever get to a conversation with him? Or does that even happen? Yeah, we're getting there.
Starting point is 00:07:28 So I go back to the table and I'm like, okay, I really think he's like, doesn't care. And I'm drinking my drink and I'm getting a little tipsy because I drank the first one a little fast. And then they were like, okay, this is a dumb idea. But we think you should go up and fall. Fall? Like pretend a trip and fall next to him. Why are not any of your girlfriend just walking up for you and say, seeing, look at that cute girl she likes you
Starting point is 00:07:52 no no no have 20 drinks and fall in front of him then he'll love you I'm not saying it was the best idea but it was the one we came up with okay here we go so I did that and so did he notice you then or did he turn back around and just keep drinking
Starting point is 00:08:08 once on the floor no that time it worked he noticed and he like got up and helped me up I was gonna ask if he helped you what a hero yeah he did he did oh he's a good guy All right. So now this is your end. What do you say? What was your line? I was like, oh, sorry. I think I'm just a little bit tipsy.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Like, I really need to sit down. Would you mind, like, walking me to a table? Oh. And he sat down with me just to, like, make sure I was okay. And we ended up talking for, like, 30 minutes. Oh. And by the end, we, like, had exchanged numbers. And I was like, yeah, I'm free next Friday. And he was like, okay, cool. I'll, like, text you. Oh, my gosh. Oh, wow. The following it worked. Well, I thought it did
Starting point is 00:08:52 But then I never got a call Oh, that's where we are now I still think that he could be in a relationship You're right Yeah, he could have just done it to get her out of his way Yeah, he's never going to answer that She said she was a drunk girl falling in the bar Yeah, yeah
Starting point is 00:09:04 Brooke, do you give out your numbers To guys who asked for it drunkenly Just out of kindness? No If you're drunk, text right now I mean, it's so easy to block a number, why not? That's true. I just think that if he's like
Starting point is 00:09:17 in a new relationship or something and whatever. No, you're right. And he doesn't call back. Yeah, that's a good point. He gets to be getting rid of you. How long did you say it's been since this bar interaction? I think it's been like a week and a half.
Starting point is 00:09:29 Still hazy. Still hazy. She may have got a concussion when she fell. Right, that hangover plus the bruising, you needed time to get yourself back together. So we'll get ourselves together. We'll come back. We'll call Jason for you and we'll try to get you your second date update. Even if we have to try three, four, seven hundred times to get him on the phone.
Starting point is 00:09:48 We'll do it. fall down. Yeah, one of us will, right after this. Hold on. Second date update. There's a reason they call it falling in love. Oh. Because sometimes you literally have to fall down in a bar to get a guy's attention.
Starting point is 00:10:04 Wow. And that's what our listener, Angie, did on purpose to strike up a conversation with a guy named Jason. And it worked. Like, I'm laughing, but it worked. It did. It was actually her friend's idea to fake a tumble, but it ended up starting the connection he helped her up. They sat together
Starting point is 00:10:20 for a while, just chatting and getting to know each other and checking for concussion symptoms. Wow. Let me check your pupils one more time. So romantic. But after they exchanged numbers, there's really been no contact between Angie and Jason. God, he hasn't even called to check up on her. I know. What a jerk.
Starting point is 00:10:37 And here's the thing. My plan going into this is not to tell him that the fall was just a ruse designed to get his attention. Duh, Jeff. I like being on the same page with you about this stuff. Yes. Okay. Nobody was going to mention it.
Starting point is 00:10:51 Yeah. I'm just clarified. I know, but it's weird that you have to even say it out loud. Angie, are you okay with us not bringing up that it was done on purpose? I didn't even think that was an option. Yeah, it wasn't. It wasn't. Don't worry.
Starting point is 00:11:03 Okay. All the options are on the table. It's good that we're all on the same page, though, that we're not going to say that. Yes. You're not still hung up on one of your ex-boyfriends, right? Because I won't bring that up either. We don't bring it anymore. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:14 You're really lucky that I'm the one driving the car on this one, because we're going to to stay right in between those two lanes. I'm close to crashing into your car. Jeff's like, so should we bring up childhood traumas now? We always can. Only if I get a second date. That's a good stipulation.
Starting point is 00:11:32 It's shocking that people still call it for our help. I know. It's got to be entertainment. We just know how to do this. Okay. I'm going to dial Jason. Let's see if he answers. Here we go. Hello. Hey, is this Jason? This is him?
Starting point is 00:11:52 Who's this? Hey, man. We're actually a radio show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Hey, Jason. Hi. Welcome to the show. I'm Jeff. Yes.
Starting point is 00:12:01 He's not Jason. So strong, Jeff. Of Broken Jeffrey. Yeah. Hello? Yeah. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:10 I'm sorry. We're hung up. My bad. Let me just tell you what we're calling about because this is a segment we do called a second date update. We're trying to help out. one of our listeners get in touch with you after you met recently at a bar. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Girl named Angie. Yeah, there was never any real first. Yeah, you, like, helped her? I helped her get up off of the ground, yeah. Right. That's the one. All right, ground girl. No, I don't call her ground girl.
Starting point is 00:12:38 That doesn't sound right. We're just calling her Angie because that's her name. And we know you didn't hang out for too long, but there was a little bit of a connection, romantically maybe between the two of you that night? Maybe a little bit of a spark? Wait, did you just laugh? Yeah, yeah, I did laugh a little bit there. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Oh, like a good laugh? Yeah. Why are you laughing? Romantic laugh? Yeah, I don't know about having a romantic connection there. Okay, well, maybe that was a little bit strong, but she felt like that you guys were hitting it off and there could be and you exchange numbers, she's a little bit confused
Starting point is 00:13:16 that afterwards you haven't reached out to her at all. I don't know what she remembers. Oh. She mentioned she had a couple drinks. Yeah. What did she do? Well, she fell. Well, I know that part. Yeah, we heard
Starting point is 00:13:34 that. I'm talking about, it sounds like something embarrassing happened. That is embarrassing, Brooke. To most people. Brooks, like I do that every time I walk in a restaurant. Was there more? more than the falling? Yeah. You know what it was?
Starting point is 00:13:47 She was interested in me, and that's interesting. So I was asking her questions about herself because I was open to the possibility. Oh, that's good. Okay. There you go. So, I mean, it sounds like something changed your mind. Yeah. When I asked her, what makes you laugh?
Starting point is 00:14:09 Yeah. It took her a while to think of the answer. Well, that's a hard question. I didn't even know it to answer. Yeah. Yeah, but I was helping her. I was giving her suggestions, different movies, TV shows. Okay.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Oh, it's like list anything. Yeah. And what did she say? Well, what makes her laugh is videos of little children falling down and getting hurt. Oh. Okay. Isn't that what America's funny is some videos? You see?
Starting point is 00:14:37 Yeah. The best Instagram pages is called the kids getting hurt. Yeah. But not like really hurt. Wait. Was that a red film? flag to you? Yeah, that's a pretty strong red flag. Oh, wait. And maybe she was trying to be funny because she had just fallen down, right?
Starting point is 00:14:53 Yeah. Let's not make excuses for her. Let's hear what is it about children falling down that's so off-putting. It wasn't just that she said, yeah, sometimes on Instagram, I might see videos of kids falling down. It was that she had saved in her phone compilation. Oh, wait. And any time she's got a bad day, had a long day. She comes home and opens these videos of kids falling down. Come on, I'm a mother-in-to-in. I approve. Jason, why is that, like, a big red flag to you that she finds humor in children falling?
Starting point is 00:15:29 It's so kids getting hurt. It's not one video. It's not a couple of videos. She has dozens of videos. Oh, wow. Did you give the videos a chance? Did you watch any of yourself? Yay.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Yeah, I mean, she was trying to show them to me, but she couldn't get to them wherever they were. She had a head injury. From falling. She's laughing, trying to find him even. I think she was more drunk than concussed. It sounds like, yeah. The fall wasn't like...
Starting point is 00:15:56 Jason, the good news is it sounded like you were genuinely concerned about Angie's well-being, checking in on her. And I'm happy to inform you that Angie is fully recovered, doing really well. In fact, she's on the other line of this phone call right now, probably just laughing at the idea of children falling all over the place. But I don't like them getting in. I'm not saying the injury part is funny, but like people falling is funny. And when they're little kids, like, they're just more awkward.
Starting point is 00:16:26 Yeah, but why do you have so many of them? You told me you have over a hundred videos. Whoa. I mean, I just, if I see one and it makes me laugh, I save it for a bad day. And I just like, I don't know, they build up. It's not like I've been, that's the only thing I collect. It's just like one of the things that I will save. Yeah, but that's different than what you told me.
Starting point is 00:16:48 You told me the only thing you save are videos of them falling. You even said kids falling downstairs cracks you up the most. Oh, wait a minute. That's a gauge. It's such a niche genre. I mean, you asked me what made me laugh, and I told you, and now you're being super judgy about it. Well, I wasn't going to call back a monster who sits down and watch. Oh, monster.
Starting point is 00:17:15 Jason, you are not sounding very funny right now. Don't knock it until you try it. You wouldn't even watch one, so how do you know? That's true, dude. You should go over the page. Go follow it. Like, I have this video of this little kid in his little ranger car and he, like, thrives into like this little ravine and he, you know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:17:31 Like, it's so funny. Driving a monster truck into a ravine, that's sick. Oh, come on. Oh, you can watch it. Well, I think I have my answer here. Yeah, I mean, just to be, you know, totally fair on this, we do need to offer, Jason. We would send you on an official first date with Angie, and we would pay for it if you're willing to give her a chance. Yeah, I don't think we're going to get along very well.
Starting point is 00:17:58 Okay. Wow. I mean, what makes you laugh? Oh, I like classic clowns from the 70s. What? Clouts from the 70s? You mean those things that terrorized children? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:13 I mean, look, maybe you guys have more in common than you realize, Jason. I mean, there is a lot of slapstick and clown work. You can see a kid get squirted in the face with a flower? Those aren't true clowns. That's sort of the downfall of them. All right. You know what? Sounds like you like the French
Starting point is 00:18:29 clowns. Yeah, okay. Well, if this whole thing is finished and you two aren't going to be going out, then I'm just going to come out and say it just so you know, Jason. Angie really is into falling. Not just kids falling, but adults, too. because she orchestrated the whole falling thing just to meet you.
Starting point is 00:18:44 Why would you do that? What I'm doing? It's over. It's over. He's already said that he's not into it. What point are you trying to make? I'm just saying she's really liking falling. That's her love language. That just adds another layer of weird to the whole time.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Don't say that. What? God. It got you two together for a little bit. She's the one who listened to our show, Jeff. Okay. Let's bring a child in here and have them fall over to get you back on my side. I don't mind.
Starting point is 00:19:08 I'm not interested in him anymore anyway. So, yeah, I feel. fell for you, and I regret it. I had this, like, overwhelming sensation that I had to call it right then. And I just hit call. I said, you know, hey, I'm Jacob Schick. I'm the CEO of One Tribe Foundation, and I just want to call and let her know. There's a lot of people battling some of the very
Starting point is 00:19:31 same things you're battling. And there is help out there. The Good Stuff Podcast, Season 2, takes a deep look into One Tribe Foundation, a non-profit fighting suicide in the veteran community. September is National Suicide Prevention Month, so join host Jacob and Ashley Schick as they bring you to the front lines of One Tribe's mission. I was married to a combat Army veteran, and he actually took his own life to suicide. One Tribe saved my life twice. There's a lot of love that flows through this place, and it's sincere.
Starting point is 00:19:58 Now it's a personal mission. Don't want to have to go to any more funerals, you know. I got blown up on a React mission. I ended up having amputation below the knee of my right leg and a traumatic brain injury because I landed on my head. Welcome to Season 2 of the Goods, stuff. Listen to the Good Stuff podcast on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was. Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the
Starting point is 00:20:29 coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in tech is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught, and I just looked at my computer screen.
Starting point is 00:20:55 I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors, and you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston Lab that takes on the most hopeless cases, to finally solve the unsolvable. Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I think the question that we really need to ask ourselves here is, how many videos of children falling can you save in your phone until it becomes a red flag?
Starting point is 00:21:29 Is it 10 children, 100 children, 1,000 children fall? I think it's only a red flag if it's the same child falling over and over again, and that child. isn't yours. That's the only red flag. A child needs help. And it's all that you have on your phone. Right. You don't have any selfies? If it's different children, you're cool, man. That's a good point. I mean, it sounds like most people in this room were on Angie's side saying it's funny, it shouldn't really be that big of a deal, doesn't need to be a red flag.
Starting point is 00:21:57 Jose took the time to look up the account he follows and seven, over seven million people follow the account about kids being heard. It is very popular. That's true. It was funny. I watched quite a few videos. I agree. I think they're all really funny, but maybe he had some sort of experience in his past where he fell as a child, drove his power wheels into like a coy pond, and that memory has stuck
Starting point is 00:22:19 with him forever. Until the creepy clown cheered him up. Yes. Which made sense. He seems like a serious guy. I know. Thank God for Bozo and all of his weird clown antics. Oh, man. Makes sense that his buddy's name was Gary. Yeah, that checks out. So it didn't work out for the two of them, but it doesn't
Starting point is 00:22:35 mean it can't work out for you and whoever you meet in the world. You can always email the show. We'll call that person who's not calling you back and go check out all of our second dates. They're up online wherever you get your podcast at Brooke and Jeffrey.
