But really, at the end of the day, a lot of it just comes down to being in the right place at the right time.
Starting point is 00:01:56 Oh, for sure. You just like it, yeah. That's why Alexa stands outside the Yacht Club every day after work in her tiniest crop top. Yeah, exactly. You just got to increase those odds that it'll happen. All the rich guys are like, there's a lost child out here. I prefer weekends out there. One of our listeners thinks he found the right girl, but he took her to the wrong place at
Starting point is 00:02:18 the wrong time. And that's why Brian's reached out to us for help. Hey, Brian, how you doing, man? I'm good. How are you guys doing? Sounds like you're living with some regret on your decision making yeah you know i made a right turn down the wrong street yeah i've done that all right well before we get into your actual date why don't you tell us about the girl that you met what's her name her name's alana we met on dating app, and she is smoking hot. I like that we don't even have to ask.
Starting point is 00:02:48 Like, what do you like about her? What makes her so smoking hot? She just has the most beautiful lips I've ever seen. They're like heart-shaped. They make like a little bow in the corner. She just has a beautiful mouth. Sounds like a medical doctor. Yeah, there's bows on her lips.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Sounds like Betty Boop to me. Okay. You mean the voluptuous lips? I, there's bows on her lips. Sounds like Betty Boop to me. Okay. What do you mean, though? Voluptuous lips? I often get complimented on my lips, so I know what you mean. That's good. Ladies, don't hold us. How you turn that into something about you is beyond me.
Starting point is 00:03:15 It's a special skill that Jose has. Call me Bolaños Boop. Anyway, Brian, tell us what you and Alana did for your date. We went to a sushi restaurant. We both are huge sushi fans. Nice. That's a sexy meal. It is.
Starting point is 00:03:30 It's a great date meal. There's things you can explore. It's simple. You always share. I mean, what was your first thought when you saw her for the first time? Oh, my gosh. How beautiful she was. And she was super funny.
Starting point is 00:03:42 Oh, funny. She's got it all. This sounds like a dream girl. Yeah, like wait. So where did things start to go wrong for you? Well, when we sat down at the table, we had a great conversation and I peep over my left shoulder and two or three tables down was a girl that I ghosted maybe two weeks ago. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:04:02 Oh, dude. What are the chances? And you ghosted her. It's already awkward if it's like an ex or someone you want to date with but you disappeared on her i did the houdini i definitely did the houdini so what did you do in this situation i wasn't sure what to do you know i right at first i thought about changing tables you know i'm saying that we're under the air conditioner and it's too cold but that would have made me look weak Like a man that can handle his Fahrenheit turns to a lot of like hey, can I borrow your jacket actually?
Starting point is 00:04:37 So you didn't do that? No, and then I thought about going over to the girl and it's moving things over and saying hello no don't do that that could have been dynamite so i i left that alone it could have been a situation where the two girls would have fought for you yeah no no no you're right they would have kissed it out yeah that's how girls handled their problems they would have stabbed each other with chopsticks exactly you would have been the victim okay so what what did you end up deciding to do oh i did the best thing a person can do in that situation i i hid behind my menu i ignored it okay and hoped she wouldn't notice the back of my head i mean she
Starting point is 00:05:17 was looking at the back of you right now we're like sideways so she could catch my profile so i kind of angled it and i kept my head down and really low. I'm sure that looked really hot. You were worried about the air conditioner thing making you look a little wimpy. I don't know about this. I mean, what was your date thinking, do you think? I mean, did she notice? Or did you tell her?
Starting point is 00:05:38 Yeah, she was looking at me and asked if there was a problem. And I just told her, you know, I had a little bit of back and neck pain. Oh, no. Oh, no. Oh, no. That's exactly what a woman wants to hear. See, now you sound like an old man that's, like, gonna have to be cowering over all the time. I mean, do you think you should have just been honest
Starting point is 00:05:56 and told her what was going on? Absolutely not. Yeah, I mean, that's not a good look. Like, hey, that's the girl that I just ghosted one week ago and left hanging. Yeah, it's so soon. You may be next. Anyway, how's your sushi? Yeah, what mean, that's not a good look. Like, hey, that's the girl that I just ghosted one week ago and left hanging. Yeah, it's so soon. You may be next. Anyway, how's your sushi?
Starting point is 00:06:08 What are your hobbies? Yeah, I was totally flustered, so I tried to focus on conversation. Conversation was awkward, and after we ordered, you know, I had to drop the menu. I couldn't hold it up all night. And sure enough, the girl that I ghosted is looking right at me. Oh, my God. Did she say something to you? Did she come over? She didn't have to say anything. Her eyeballs were shooting daggers.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Oh, look at that. You're not even worth the anger. That's not a good sign. Okay. How did you and Alana leave things? Well, after we finished our meal, I invited her out for dessert. She was like, nah, I'm good. But let's stay in touch with each other. And I'm like, hey, sure. Probably for the best because your ex-girlfriend works at the ice cream shop. So, but, okay.
Starting point is 00:06:59 And how long has it been since you've last spoken with Alana? About a week and a half, two weeks. Okay. So, I mean, you're not shocked that she's not returning your call. Like, she just said, let's keep in touch just to be kind. No, I'm not surprised. I was rushing the whole time. My focus wasn't there.
Starting point is 00:07:18 She had to repeat a few couple of things she said that totally went over my head. Oh, a lot of things. This is looking like we're trying to get a chance at redemption, like a second shot for you. Yeah, no distractions. When we call her and if she answers, do you want to tell her the truth about what happened at the restaurant or do you still want to keep it a secret?
Starting point is 00:07:37 Hell no. Don't tell her the truth. What? I held out the whole night. Oh, my God. Okay. You need to tell her. That's what he wants to do.
Starting point is 00:07:46 We can help. In that case, we're going to play a song. We'll come back. We'll call Alana for you, and we'll keep the lie going. Don't ruin it for me. All right. Hold on. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:07:55 Hold on. I'm not lying. I just never told her. Okay. That's a classic line. We'll keep not telling her what's going on in your second date update right after this. We all know that awkward feeling when you run into somebody from your past out in public. Someone that you have a weird history with, whether it's an ex that you dumped or a former co-worker that you fired.
Starting point is 00:08:24 Or in my case, my old pet snake, Ralphie, who I tried to free into the woods. And then three days later, ran into him at a pet groomer. That's awkward. You know how awkward it is when a snake is giving you side-eye while he's getting blow-dried? It's uncomfortable. That's what happened to one of our...
Starting point is 00:08:40 I bet his perm looks nice, though. It did. I can't deny that. But that's what happened to one of our listeners, Brian, when he was out on a date at a restaurant. And the girl that he'd just ghosted a week before was there sitting at the table right next to them. Oh, man. And so, of course, that date didn't end very well because of all the tension in the air. And Alana is not calling him back afterwards. So we're going to try and reach out to her and not explain what happened, but
Starting point is 00:09:06 at least try and smooth things over and give him another chance. Remember, we're holding the lie here, Brooke. We're not revealing. Wait, I wasn't lying. I never lied to you guys. Right. We won't tell her the truth. We omitted what really happened. I just think that if you were to tell her, like,
Starting point is 00:09:22 hey, I'm so sorry. I was distracted. There was someone that I used to go out with in the restaurant. No, no, no, no, no. OK, OK. We won't do it. So what's your what's your reason then, Brian, for being so weird during dinner? Like you were sitting funny. You were hiding behind a menu.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Like, how do we explain that? My neck was hurting. Your neck was hurting. Sticking with the neck. He was in pain. And that's why he couldn't concentrate on the date. But we can say he feels better now. That that is what a lie is brian i just want to establish that that's what i told to my pet snake too when i found him i was like oh sorry bud my sciatica that's why i had to
Starting point is 00:09:55 let you go that's why i threw you in the water all right man i feel like we're ready to call alana do you feel ready? I'm ready. All right. Let's do this. Still don't agree with our tactics, but we'll do it. Here we go. I'm going to dial Alana's number right now. Hello? Hi, is this Alana?
Starting point is 00:10:23 This is her. Who am I speaking with? You're speaking with Jeff, the lead host of the award-winning morning radio show, Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning. Why are you saying V? That's a lot of hype, Alana. Okay. Okay, what...
Starting point is 00:10:38 What a stupid radio morning show. Sorry, that's pretty much what I should say. Yeah, okay, well, yeah, you're right. We didn't win any awards and not a lot of people are very familiar. We have won awards. So what are you saying? I don't think it's pertinent. No, you're just kind of like an awkward guy with a microphone. Yeah. You're on an awkward morning radio show
Starting point is 00:10:58 with a super awkward guy. Welcome, Alana. Award-winning awkward. Okay, hi. What is this all about? On this really horrible, awkward show, Welcome, Alana. Award-winning awkward. Okay, hi. What is this all about? On this really horrible, awkward show, we do something called a second date update, where we help our listeners reconnect with people after they've been ghosted. Oh, did my friend Courtney call you?
Starting point is 00:11:20 What? Who's Courtney? I told my friend Courtney about this really awkward date I was on like the other week. Did she call you about this? Well, we haven't spoken with anybody named Courtney, but we did talk to a guy named Brian who said that he went out with you the other day. Oh, wow. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:39 Yeah. Is that the star of your awkward date? Yeah. Yeah. Front and center. That's the guy. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:45 So we're calling on his behalf because he wants to know. Well, it's not that he wants to know what went wrong. He kind of already knows that it wasn't the greatest date on his part. Oh, okay. Well, I'm glad he knows that. But he had a lot of really nice things to say about you. He thought that you were just absolutely beautiful. And funny.
Starting point is 00:12:09 He said you were really funny and you made him laugh, which I think is the best compliment. I don't know, the nice lips. Oh, that's right. I don't know if you get a lot of compliments on your lips, but he mentioned they were very full and voluptuous. Oh, that's so sweet. Okay. What was your take on Brian? Like, what did you think about him in the beginning?
Starting point is 00:12:27 Yeah, no, he like, he just completely like ignored me. He was not focused on the date or anything at all. Like, I'm amazed that he even noticed my lips or anything physical about me. He just like was completely distracted. Well, in his defense, he mentioned to us that he was a little bit nervous and that he was dealing with some neck pain during the date. Yeah. That's understandable. Like, everybody over age 19 has neck and back pain. Or at least that's what Jeff tells himself.
Starting point is 00:12:54 Yeah. He's right. But, you know, he was in pain, and so maybe that could help explain why he was acting a little weird. Well, yeah. He did say, like, his neck and his upper back was hurting. And I was like, yeah, your neck is probably broken because he was checking out
Starting point is 00:13:07 this other girl at the table like most of the night. Oh. I was like, okay. So that's, like, part of it. So you noticed him
Starting point is 00:13:18 looking at someone else? Oh, my God, yeah. Did you ever think about calling him on it? I was just like, whatever. I'll just get through dinner and, like, call it a night.
Starting point is 00:13:25 He, like, wanted to go to dessert. I was like, no, live your life. Yeah. Are you sure that he was checking out another woman? Because he never mentioned anything like that to us. Really? And he has his neck pain. Maybe it was just crooked in a certain way where he was facing towards a table with a woman at it.
Starting point is 00:13:42 That's what I was saying. Maybe he can only look to his left. I don't know. He kept looking to the side at this other table with two girls sitting at it. And they were cute girls, sure, but he wasn't even focused on me. It was like he was in another world. I had to repeat myself over and over. That pain is distracting.
Starting point is 00:14:00 Yeah. I could see how you'd be really frustrated with him, though. Could you think of any reason, other than he was checking her out? That there could be Brooke for him. What asking are you even? I just think that it's a better alternative to them what she thinks right now. Yeah, but that's not the plan I think yeah, he heard whatever's saying right now sounds crazy yeah and i wouldn't listen to her she's like the crazy one on the show she suffers from the most neck and back by far but um maybe there is an explanation for why he was behaving so weirdly and i need to
Starting point is 00:14:39 let you know that brian is actually on the other line, Alana. Wait, what? Yeah. Yeah, right now. He's been listening and he feels a lot better today. I feel like his neck pain is miraculously gone. Yes, my neck is so much better. Hi, Alana. Hey. Hi, Brian.
Starting point is 00:14:57 What is this? I was wondering if maybe we could do like a redo or something like that. My neck was telling me. I mean, sure. I'm glad your neck is feeling better. But I also think like, I don't know if someone just like not a good listener or like not willing to pay attention to their date. Then I don't know why I should give you a second chance. I mean, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:15:22 Was that really what was going on? Yeah. Oh, come don't know. Was that really what was going on? Um, yeah. Oh, come on, Brian. Brian, your friends here on the radio seem to be telling another story that maybe there's something else going on. No, just Brooke. Just Brooke. Yeah, Brooke's not a friend of ours. Okay, well, Brooke is my friend.
Starting point is 00:15:42 Oh. Really? You're the one hiding stuff from us. I just think the truth isn't that bad. I don't know. You're telling the truth. Here we go. Brian, you need to tell me the truth.
Starting point is 00:15:53 Like, what is going on with this date? What could you do, Brooke? Okay. I mean, if we're going to be honest here, you know, I don't know if you noticed the girl sitting maybe a couple of tables away from us. Yeah, we went out on a date maybe three weeks ago and just one day and I never called her back. And I wasn't sure how she was going to respond, you know, seeing us there at the restaurant. So it made me feel a little nervous and awkward.
Starting point is 00:16:23 Wow. So you were like hiding from this girl that you ghosted on our date? I didn't ghost her necessarily. And I wasn't hiding from her. I just didn't want to interact with her. It does sound funny. Wait, wait, wait. Don't you think, Alana, don't you think that's way better than him checking out somebody else while he's out with you?
Starting point is 00:16:43 Like, he just didn't want anything to ruin his night with you and you know dating's hard and things happen people get busy you go out one night i don't know what kind of person just like goes someone like that like that you just don't have the courtesy to be like okay things didn't work out right well i just think that things didn't work out by not calling back. I mean, he is saying silence sometimes can be very powerful. Honesty still the best policy, Brooke? It is! Silence would have been powerful if you were silent. I mean, Alana, come on.
Starting point is 00:17:16 Now it all makes sense. Now it all clicks, right? Like, he was nervous. He didn't know what to do. He didn't want to ruin his night with you. I mean, I appreciate him being upfront, right? I appreciate your honesty eventually getting drug out of you by these people on the radio but i do think that like you need to be honest with the people that you're dating and
Starting point is 00:17:34 say like hey this didn't work out and obviously she wasn't that upset by it else she would have approached the table and made a scene or said something you know like maybe she was actually ghosting him too. I have an idea where we can make this right on everybody. What if Brian called the other girl back now? It's a little bit late to come clean with her, but at least he's doing right by her. That is the dumbest thing I ever heard.
Starting point is 00:18:03 Okay. All right. Well, Brooke ruined it, guys. I did not ruin it. This is why we're not friends with her, by the way. I just say, Brian, if I ever see you at a sushi restaurant, I will be coming up to your table. Better find a new place.
Starting point is 00:18:18 That's like a threat, dude. I love it. Shoot. Wow. Thanks a lot, Brooke, for everything you did for me. I didn't mean to screw. I mean, Alana ghosted you, too. Oh, yeah.
Starting point is 00:18:30 That's why I'm too late. Brooke, don't throw me under the bus. I thought we were friends. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. We're so done with New Year, New You.
