Starting point is 00:01:46 listen to your favorite shows. I'm Dr. Joy Hardin Bradford, host of the Therapy for Black Girls podcast. I know how overwhelming it can feel if flying makes you anxious. In session 418 of the Therapy for Black Girls podcast, Dr. Angela Neil Barnett and I discuss flight anxiety. What is not a norm is to allow it to prevent you from doing the things that you want to do, the things that you were meant to do.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Listen to Therapy for Black Girls on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast. Well, this one's a bold one. Hey, it's Brick and Jeffrey in the morning and your new second date podcast right now. I'll just say one of our listeners met a guy while he was working and 10 seconds later he was in her home and they were on a date
Starting point is 00:02:31 honestly impressive on her partner I don't know I don't know if I'd recommend this move but you'll hear it in just a second Alexis what are you seeing on the comment section Moonster said you guys I'm recently single and I've decided I'm going back to back first dates every day and not call them back until one of them asks you to get me on for a second date update
Starting point is 00:02:53 Don't do it. It's not worth your time and energy. The Moonstra, I really hope we hear you one day. I hope that you're dating our listeners. I've never heard of our show. Tell us your like handle, though, when you call in, okay? Yeah, yeah. Because if your name's like Chad, we're not going to know. No, yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:11 Beware of Moonstra out there, daters, all right? It's your second date update, and it starts right now. Second Date Update. How does the saying go when life gives you lemons? you make lemonade. That's, that's it. We try to find the silver lining in an otherwise crappy situation.
Starting point is 00:03:29 Apparently, that's what our listener, Sophia did recently. She took her lemons and made it into datorade. The lemon lime kind. That was really funny. I deserved more laugh, Jeff. I liked it too.
Starting point is 00:03:43 I thought it was all right. Could have been better. I didn't hear anything from it. I'm kind of medium on it myself. But let's just talk to Sophia about it. Sophia, welcome to the show. Hi, how are you? Sylvia, you get it?
Starting point is 00:03:53 Yeah, hopefully it doesn't turn into haterage. Uh-oh. That was actually funnier than my joke, so I'm glad that her joke got more laughed. So, Sophia, tell us, what was this bad situation that led you to a date? Well, technically, it wasn't really a formal date, but it was more like a hangout fashion. We talked. Okay. Should we hang up on her then?
Starting point is 00:04:17 Should we cancel this? No, no, no, no. No, no. We have all sorts of just hangouts on this show, you know, on this second. How did it start with a bad situation? What's that about? So, I mean, it was kind of funny. I accidentally locked myself out of my house. Oh, I hate that. Oh, no. Yeah, I'd gone out with friends. I got home late. Like, it was after midnight at this point.
Starting point is 00:04:39 Oh, no. Yeah, so I had to call locksmith. Yeah. You are a really put-together drunk girl, because I would have just crashed through a window. Yeah. Okay, you needed a locksmith, and what happened? Yes. So I finally got a hold of a little. this guy named Hank and I mean he sounded like he just woke up honestly yeah I asked if he could come help me you know open the door to my house but when he showed up it was not what I expected when
Starting point is 00:05:06 he said his name was Hank here's a honk for sure what Hank is a locksmith really yeah so now obviously your mind is shifting from this is going to be a locksmith to this is going to be a potential love interest. Now you're trying to lock down this myth. Exactly. Yeah. Okay.
Starting point is 00:05:25 How does that? I love it. How does that go? I mean, okay, so basically he gets into my house within 10 seconds. Makes you feel safe about your door. You're like, all right, man. Yeah, that's how he's easy it is.
Starting point is 00:05:37 So did you like invite him for a drink? I mean, he's at work. It's like three in the morning. What's how you said it was midnight, right? Or something weird? I have no idea what time it was at that point. But I did offer him. I was like, do you want to come inside?
Starting point is 00:05:49 Do you want to come inside? Do you want a water or a soda? or anything. Oh, that's nice. Wow. And he took you up on it? I mean, I could tell he kind of wanted to say, like, he wanted, but I don't think if he could really pick up on the subtext of what I was trying to say.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Yeah. And if he can tell you've been drinking, he may be like, you know, you're a little out of it right now. Wait, like he's working. You could get him fired. True, that too. Yeah, totally. Is the 10 seconds it took for him to get into your house, your hangout? No.
Starting point is 00:06:14 Oh. Okay, there's more. Yeah. No. Like, we ended up talking. Like, we ended up talking for, like, 30, 40 minutes. I, like, we, you know, I started with a small talk, and I was like, oh, goodness, I bet it's so hard to have a family with this kind of job.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Oh, look at you. Oh, you're fishing. And he said he's single. Okay. But I still don't, like, I thought I was being kind of obvious, but I don't think he really got that at that point. But once I finally was like, here, take my Instagram, I think he kind of figured out. You got to spell it out for guys sometimes.
Starting point is 00:06:46 Okay. Okay. So you guys started chatting on Instagram. Um, not quite. You know, we had some small chat and I thought honestly the interaction was better than any date I've been on in like a year. Be honest. The guy breaks into your house in 30 minutes and that interaction is a better date than you've ever had. Well, he's kind of a hero, Jeff.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Yeah. I got to break down more doors randomly in front of women, I guess. You got to be careful, though, because you were drunk, right? Like, you were a little tipsy. Like, you don't know. Yeah, but I will tell you, it is the only locksmith I have ever hugged before. Oh, cute. Have you seen him in daylight sober?
Starting point is 00:07:27 Yeah, this is what I'm thinking to. I'm like Hank really. Yeah. Like, I remember one time I went to a fancy dinner and there was a Somalié that I thought was the most gorgeous man I had ever laid eyes on. And then the next day, because I forgot my purse, I had to go back and he was there. And I went, oh. Ah, yeah. The dark lighting.
Starting point is 00:07:46 Not the same. And like the hero-esque moment. I don't understand. Are you trying to talk her out of calling this guy? I'm just worried. I don't care what you. I promise you. I don't know.
Starting point is 00:07:58 Your memory of him is way better than what he's actually going to be. I'm wondering if she ever saw pictures of him or like they connected on Insta. Did you go to his Insta? Like the next day. Have you seen him sober? Have you confirmed his good looks? I haven't seen him in person or his Instagram because he has not followed me back. is that not our answer
Starting point is 00:08:21 are we calling his work cell phone then to try to get you a date honestly I think he's kind of a one man shopper so like I've been trying to text him and he said he's been busy but to let him know if I lock myself out again and so
Starting point is 00:08:38 I don't know if that means he really just business or if he's kind of interested and not showing it but he hasn't been asking me out but I thought we had a buy And I would love it if y'all could find out for me why. You do realize that he very politely said no. But maybe he doesn't get it.
Starting point is 00:09:00 Maybe he's not reading her right. But she did give him her Instagram handle, so he should at least have a little bit of a clue that there's more interest than just opening doors. You don't just do that. So we'll find out. We're going to call Hank here, and we will ask him,
Starting point is 00:09:14 why didn't you try to date the drunk girl who's front door you busted down? In the middle of the night. Please be better than Brooks Tomolier experience. Seriously. Honestly, he was in a linden shirt. He was so hot that night. We'll find out how hot he really is and get some answers for you when we do your second date update right after this.
Starting point is 00:09:33 Hold on. Second date update. If you're just joining us for the second date, our listener, Sophia, is trying to score another hangout with the sexy locksmith who broke down her front door. Yes, she is. Those are two words I never thought I'd hear back to back. back sexy locksmith sorry it's not a euphemism either Hank the hunky locksmith helped her gain access to her house when she locked herself out late one night they hung out for about 30 minutes just chatting and vibe in and she said that interaction was better than any actual date that she's been
Starting point is 00:10:07 on in a long time dude that is such a bad state for dating yeah she showed up and did what he said he would do and that was amazing yeah but she also mentioned he felt like he was lingering like one to hang out with her a little longer. She did say to him kind of flirtatiously, it must be hard taking midnight calls when you have a family waiting at home. And he told her he was single. Which is great news.
Starting point is 00:10:30 Yeah. But is it possible? Because I was thinking about this in the break. Is it possible Hank maybe lied there and then felt guilty because he really does have a girlfriend or a wife even? If he was a wife, he'd still have his ring on
Starting point is 00:10:42 because no man would think like in the middle of the night, oh, call, I better take off my wedding ring. Maybe the ring gets in the way of you picking locks. That's why I can't get in anywhere Yeah, it's cumbersome Because you're married Yeah, I got a ring on But do you think that's a possibility,
Starting point is 00:10:57 Sophia, that he lied about being single and now just feels guilty about it? I don't know, it would be kind of weird to do that. But if he's as hot as you say he is, then how would he possibly still be single? That's what I was scared of. I ask myself that question all the time in the mirror. Like, how?
Starting point is 00:11:15 No, okay. But I don't know. Hopefully Hank asked some answers. if he picks up the phone. Or, you know, it'll finally be clear to him that you want to go on a date. Hopefully. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:24 Maybe that's the whole point of this call. That would be hilarious. He's like, wait, you like me? Yeah. That would be so funny. Sometimes it takes a guy like five, six, seven clues to finally get it. So we'll see what Hank has to say. I'm going to dial his number right now.
Starting point is 00:11:36 Here we go. Hello? Hey, is this Hank? Uh, yes, this is. Ooh, deep voice. Oh, business voice. Yeah, he kind of sounds hot, though. Yeah, I know.
Starting point is 00:11:53 That's what I mean. Hello? I mean, Hank is one of those unsuspecting hot names. What's going on? Hey, sorry, we're just, we're sidebarring about something, but you. You're on the radio right now, actually. That's why there's a whole bunch of people here. This is a show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
Starting point is 00:12:10 Okay. Hey, good morning, man. Were you up late last night? You sound a little tired. Um, I'm no more than usual. Okay. Okay. Well, we don't want to waste any more of your time.
Starting point is 00:12:20 We'll just tell you this is a segment that we do. It's called a second date update. And that would probably be confusing for you because you didn't technically go on any dates. Oh, yeah. Yeah. Basically, we're trying to help out one of our listeners to get back in touch with you. A woman whose door you opened recently, it's a woman named Sophia. Yeah, you were the hero she was looking for that night.
Starting point is 00:12:39 Yay. Okay, so what? Well, we don't know what type of vibe you got when you were hanging. out with Sophia, but from what we heard, she was feeling something going on between the two of you. Yeah, I picked that up.
Starting point is 00:12:58 Oh, you did? You did, okay. Okay. Yeah. What'd you think of Sophia? I mean, she is cute. She would usually be my type. It's just I don't really, I try not to date people who are already in a relationship.
Starting point is 00:13:14 Oh, excuse me, what? Wait, she's in a relationship, or I think you're confused. gave you that impression. That's like the try not to. Yeah. Sometimes can't help yourself. It's really funny. You got the impression she was in a relationship?
Starting point is 00:13:29 Right. Yeah. When she invited me inside that night, I was there about, I don't know, maybe half an hour. And she's giving me a drink. I noticed the place kind of doesn't look like a woman's place. And I was looking through her mail just because, you know, I was sitting there on the counter. And there were a lot of guys' names on the address label. Oh, so she doesn't have one relationship.
Starting point is 00:13:50 She has multiple. Are she going to have a roommate? Yeah, when I said guys, I meant, you know, apostrophe as it's one guy. Did you ask her, like, hey, does your boyfriend live here? I mean, I'm the locksmith. It's not really my business to ask stuff like that. Okay, I see. Also, it's a little weird to pick up mail and be like, hey, who's this?
Starting point is 00:14:07 Yeah. Yeah. I know, but you could easily say, oh, so, you know, you live alone? Or you couldn't have called a roommate to help you unlock the door? Trust me. As a guy, you never ask a woman, so do you live by your same? That's a good point. She invited a male in the house.
Starting point is 00:14:21 Is anybody going to be joining us here shortly or are we safe? But that is scary. Now he's in the house. So are we alone? Yeah, exactly. You don't want to ask that. I was on the clock. I was just doing the job and then I left.
Starting point is 00:14:33 It would be so stupid of her to call a radio station to publicly ask about a date if she had a boyfriend. Yeah. She wants to break up with her own boyfriend. Let's clear this up once and for all because here's the good news, Hank. We have Sophia already on the other line. listening to this phone call. So she is all caught up on it.
Starting point is 00:14:51 She just wants to talk to you. What are you talking about? That's how this segment works. We have them quietly listening on the other line ready to jump in and pounce. Oh. No, gentle to say, Okay, slide in coily. However you would join a conversation naturally, that's the way she wants to join it.
Starting point is 00:15:08 Pounce, Sophia, pounce. Yeah, get them. Okay. Sophia? Yeah. Do you want to clear things up for us and for Hank and for everybody? Yeah, this is going to be such an easy explanation. Who's the guy on the mail?
Starting point is 00:15:23 I would just say it's complicated, I guess. Oh, no. Complicated. What do you mean? Do you have a boyfriend? Technically, no. Okay, so. Oh, no.
Starting point is 00:15:35 Technically. Anyone, the answers to technically. Well, hold on. I'm down for technicalities. I'm willing to hear you out. All right. So it was my boyfriend's place at the time. No.
Starting point is 00:15:47 At what time? But we were kind of on a break at that time. We had already gone through a rough patch. I did officially, I broke up with him last night, so I could make this call. Oh, man. Okay. So he was out that night then, obviously?
Starting point is 00:16:02 Yeah. I help you get in? Yeah, he was spending the night out. Okay. So that's, I mean, that's a good indication that maybe they were emotionally done. Yeah. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:16:11 Yeah. Sometimes you can't help that. You can't help when you meet somebody. If you did the right thing and you broke up before. Yes. Now, on the other side of things, Hank, the bad news is maybe the boyfriend changed the locks again and she doesn't have anywhere to stay. So you need to let her stay with you. He calls Hank to change the locks.
Starting point is 00:16:31 So I don't know. Hank, does that change your perspective on this at all? This whole thing's weird. Everything is about this is weird. I agree. Look, I'm sorry it happened this way. I'm not with him anymore. So when you said Hank was better than any date you've been on, you met your boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:16:47 Oh, no. I mean, yeah, I guess. Look, you never know when you're going to meet a locksmith that has the body of a Hemsworth. Oh, wow. Hank Hensworth. You need to change that to your business tagline. Yes. Who else is a feeling Alexis is going to be calling Loxmiths at two years from now?
Starting point is 00:17:06 Not to objectify you, Hank, but we heard that you're pretty good looking. Here's the thing. Like, Hank, she could have just lied right now. At least she's being honest. I don't know if that really buys anything. It would have been nice if Sophia, you were honest and you told us that you had a boyfriend at the time that this all happened.
Starting point is 00:17:23 I don't anymore. And you guys don't live together? You don't live together? Not anymore. We're separating it completely. Sounds like it's ongoing. Well, I mean, this is in a week. I mean, how fast can you get a new place?
Starting point is 00:17:37 As fast as he can throw all the stuff outside of his apartment or whatever. She could just be saying this now while we're on the phone. Really, it just comes down to Hank here. And where your head is at, because we would like to offer to send you on another, I guess, your first official date with Sophia, and we would pay for it. I mean, if you think about it, she says she was in a tough position. She was already breaking up with the guy. Plus, what kind of boyfriend doesn't leave a spare key somewhere nearby?
Starting point is 00:18:03 So I guess what I'd be willing to do is talk a little bit and I guess waits because right now it just feels too weird. Okay. Okay. Hey, the door's open. You get your foot in compromise. Maybe you could start by accepting her Instagram friend request, Hank. That would go a long way. Yeah, you're like private or something.
Starting point is 00:18:23 Well, I mean, then she'd be seeing pictures of my wife and that's not. Wait, wait, what? I'm joking. Oh, hey. That's actually funny. Hot and funny. I was like, wait a minute. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:37 It's a no to an official date, but a yes to let's talk and see where things are in a month or a year or five years or so. Dude, keep us updated. Yeah. I mean, I can compromise with this. Okay. We may not have gotten a date, but at least we satisfied some of Brooke's fantasies for later on tonight. I'll be locking up the whole house. I'll tell you that.
Starting point is 00:19:00 Michael, look out. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Imagine that you're on an airplane, and all of a sudden you hear this. Attention passengers. The pilot is having an emergency, and we need someone, anyone, to land this plane. Think you could do it? It turns out that nearly 50% of men think that they could land the plane with the help of air traffic control. And they're saying like, okay, pull this, until this.
Starting point is 00:19:26 Pull that. Turn this. It's just... I can do my eyes close. I'm Mani. I'm Noah. This is Devin. And on our new show, no such thing. We get to the bottom of questions like these.
Starting point is 00:19:37 Join us as we talk to the leading expert on overconfidence. Those who lack expertise lack the expertise they need to recognize that they lack expertise. And then, as we try the whole thing out for real, wait, what? Oh, that's the run right. I'm looking at this thing. Listen to no such thing on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. A foot washed up a shoe with some bones in it. They had no idea who it was.
Starting point is 00:20:07 Most everything was burned up pretty good from the fire that not a whole lot was salvageable. These are the coldest of cold cases, but everything is about to. change. Every case that is a cold case that has DNA right now in a backlog will be identified in our lifetime. A small lab in Texas is cracking the code on DNA. Using new scientific tools, they're finding clues in evidence so tiny you might just miss it. He never thought he was going to get caught. And I just looked at my computer screen. I was just like, ah, gotcha. On America's Crime Lab, we'll learn about victims and survivors, and you'll meet the team behind the scenes at Othrum, the Houston lab that takes on the most hopeless cases to finally solve the unsolvable.
Starting point is 00:20:55 Listen to America's Crime Lab on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I don't know how all of you feel after we did that call, but it felt like maybe were we giving this girl a little bit of a pass because she sounded sweet and nice? I just, I think I was giving her a. pass because she'd be too stupid if she was actually still in a relationship trying to get a date.
Starting point is 00:21:20 It's just other times I feel like we would have hammered on the person if they had told us they were actively in a relationship when they met somebody else and she didn't say that she didn't even say like I was in my boyfriend's house. But we did kind of like pass on it because the guy was good looking. We passed on it
Starting point is 00:21:35 because they broke up because it was her house and the boyfriend didn't show up that night because she was single now. If you're leveling up to Hemsworth level then you know what? God bless you. It will be interesting to see if we can stay in touch with her and find out what happened down the line between her and the hunky locksmith. So I hope she stays in touch with us and I hope that if you need help with your dating life, you reach out to our show too. Email us. We can call that person who's not calling you back. Have you ever wished
Starting point is 00:22:01 for a change but weren't sure how to make it? Maybe you felt stuck in a job, a place, or even a relationship. I'm Emily Tish Sussman and on she pivots.
