Starting point is 00:00:00 Hey y'all, I'm Maria Fernanda Diaz. When You're Invisible is my love letter to the working class people and immigrants who shaped me. Season 2 shares stories about community and being underestimated. All the greatest changes have happened when a couple of people said, this sucks, let's do something about it. We get paid to serve you, but we're made out of the same things. It's rare to have black male teachers. Sometimes I am the testament.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Listen to When You're Invisible on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. I'm Emi Olaya, host of the podcast Crumbs. For years, I had to rely on other people to tell me my story. And what I heard wasn't good. You really f***ed last night. It felt like I lived most of my life in a blackout.
Starting point is 00:00:45 I was trapped in addiction. I had to grab the lamp and smashed it against the walls. And then I decided I wanted to tell my own story. Listen to Krumz on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. What would you do if mysterious drones appeared over your hometown? I started asking questions. What do you remember happening on that night of December 16th? It actually rotated around our house looking as if it was peering in each window of our home. I'm Gabe Linners from Imagine, I Heart Podcasts and Linners
Starting point is 00:01:21 Entertainment. Listen to Obscurum, Invasion of the Drones, wherever you get your favorite podcasts. You don't need another podcast. You've got too many already. But if you're looking for one that actually changes something, a way to take control of the chaos and find meaning, well then maybe the one you feed is for you.
Starting point is 00:01:45 I'm Eric Zimmer and I bring real conversations with real people to help you feed the best part of yourself. No hype, no fluff, just wisdom that works. Listen to the one you feed on the iHeart Radio app, Apple podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts. All right, we're here. It's the second date update.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Thank you so much for finding us. Whether you got here because you saw a viral TikTok or maybe you saw something on Facebook or maybe you just like to punish yourself. Yeah. With our segment. We appreciate it. It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning
Starting point is 00:02:17 and you have been asking for it and we are finally delivering. Yeah. Before we get to your brand new second date update today, huge news, we have officially launched Merch for a Cause, a second date update line. It's so cute. Shirts and sweatshirts. Yes, crew neck hoodie, both options, a hundred percent of proceeds will support Convoy of Hope's LA wildfire Relief efforts. So it's for a good cause too. And honestly, it's so cool.
Starting point is 00:02:47 It is. It is nice. I just love it. So please go check it out. Of course, we're going to have a link in the show notes, so you can go purchase there. Or just hop on over to our website, which is brickandjeffrey.com.
Starting point is 00:02:58 Yep, right on the front page. Yes. And if you get one, tag us in it on Insta. Oh, please. Let's see. Yeah, totally. Good idea. Please.
Starting point is 00:03:03 At brickandjeffrey. Thank you so much for being here. We hope you love it as much as we do, and now let's get to the show. Second date update. She's back. Oh, who's back? Return callers of the second date update.
Starting point is 00:03:17 That's fun. Laura, you may remember her, she was the avid gym goer who roasted her date when she found out he tried to use a coupon at Nobu because he claimed he didn't know that sushi could be that expensive. You came back, Laura. The thing about Laura is she's got high-end taste and I'm guessing that she is totally worth it. But you know those types of ladies can be a little bit hard to please. And now there's another guy who's ghosting her, probably because he's so intimidated
Starting point is 00:03:51 by you, Laura. That's what I would guess. But welcome back to our show. It's nice to have you on. Thank you. I love that you have high end taste, but free when it comes to any sort of dating advice. Yeah. She knows where to find good value.
Starting point is 00:04:06 That speaks a lot about you, Laura. So apparently this is a new guy that you want us to call today, right? What's his name? His name's Troy. Troy. You said it with a big sigh. What's going on with Troy? Okay, so I met this guy Troy.
Starting point is 00:04:21 I was kind of like on the down low for a little while and I was like, all right, I'm going to try this again. Okay, so you took some time off of dating after having to recover from your experience with us. From the Nobu coupon, you got it, yeah. Okay. Good for you for deciding to get back out there. You meet Troy online on an app?
Starting point is 00:04:38 Yeah, yeah. And I liked his profile because it shows him being like super active. He's like into swimming and other activities, hiking things like that and that's really important for me He just like a big fan of a hundred dollar bills in his hand just like No, it's just like the activity stuff and the you know his body Okay Wait, that was the only thing that Alexis just perked up to. Yeah, you're right. You should have thought about the swimming photo. Obviously, there's the body. OK. Hot body active Troy.
Starting point is 00:05:09 Only thing that matters. All right. So did you initiate conversation with him? It was like a mutual thing. We just kind of had good conversation and talked about working out. So I found this thing online. And it was the most incredible view and the perfect selfie spot.
Starting point is 00:05:26 Okay, so you're picking your hiking based on the quality of picture you're going to get from it? Of course, because what girl doesn't want to look like a professional hiker standing on a rock? Yeah, okay. But hiking's a fun activity, is it active guy? Is that what you proposed? No, no, no, no, no. It's about the Instagram photo, not about the hike. So he was super down, and we had a really nice hike Is that what you proposed? No, no, no, no, no. It's about the Instagram photo. Oh. Not about the hike. Duh. So he was super down and we had a really nice hike
Starting point is 00:05:49 and the pictures came out amazing. Okay. So he's like the best IG, I don't want to say IG boyfriend cause we're not like together, but like standard wise, he'd be like the perfect IG boyfriend. Like he takes really good pictures.
Starting point is 00:06:01 Okay. So that's cute. You got cute pictures. Did you take pictures together? Yeah, we did some selfies and then we took pics of each other and we got some really good shots Okay, so this is the fun part on the way down Troy slips falls down and sprains his ankle Probably saw like a cool chipmunk and you like didn't know where to step. I'm sure that's it.
Starting point is 00:06:30 Dude that's terrible. So basically he can't walk down the mountain and he's obviously too heavy for me to carry him back down the mountain so I didn't know what to do. I kind of had a little meltdown and I was like alright let me see if my phone actually has service and I can call somebody to get help.
Starting point is 00:06:45 Oh no, is there no one else on the trail? No, no, it's super quiet. Oh, okay. Okay. Were you able to reach someone? You're gonna call in park rangers or what? I tried reaching out to a lot of people, like friends, emergency services,
Starting point is 00:06:59 I mean, basically anyone who could like help get him down the mountain. Wow. Did someone come help? Eventually, medics showed up and came and helped. Whoa. Oh wow. But the good news is on that avenue
Starting point is 00:07:10 that it wasn't like the perfect end to a perfect date, but at least we got to like sit and chat and we had a ton of really intimate talk time. Well, he's wincing and pacing. No, we always say this, but this is another cute story where if things work out for you, it's kind of like, yeah, you sprained his ankle our first date, right?
Starting point is 00:07:26 And what you take more pictures of each other while he was sitting down on the ground I mean, it's kind of wild that he hasn't he I'm assuming he hasn't called you at all Yeah, that's why I called him like he was talking a ton and now he's not talking at all And I don't understand and like if it's cuz he got hurt. That's really kind of dumb He's not embarrassed cuz like getting hurt is an accident I don't know he could be like if he's a big buff dude you think he's like Oh, no, I slip on a rock I mean
Starting point is 00:07:53 This is a little bit unlike our typical dates that we talk about on the show where it's like really quick You'd like coffee chat and then you're gone This is the two of them sitting on a mountain together for an hour with nothing to do but talk you're gone. This is the two of them sitting on a mountain together for an hour with nothing to do but talk. Yeah, that's true. And take pictures of each other. Was there anything in the conversation that happened there that might be a little bit of a red flag for him? I don't think so. I mean, we were talking about all different topics, like a lot of gym talk, you know, just experience in the gym and what kind of different activities we like and a little bit about family stuff. And I mean, we weren't
Starting point is 00:08:24 talking about like getting married and having kids if that's what you mean. Oh why not? So you sprained your ankle how many kids do you want to have? I feel like this always comes up and I just want to get ahead of it the medics that came to save him are they male are they female? Are they attractive? Are they unattractive? Did you call them strippers? They showed up naked? Like firefighters? Like you weren't flirting with the hot paramedic guys that came up to save you? No. I was talking to the medics, but I hope, I mean, hopefully he didn't take it as me hitting on them. Okay, and I'll just say if you talking to a man is something that he wouldn't call you back for, that's a red flag.
Starting point is 00:09:02 Red flag on his part, you know? Well, okay, this is gonna be an interesting one. We're going to call Troy for you and first, I mean, see if he answers the phone. Well, just see if he needs his little boo-boos kissed. Yeah. Maybe that's where she comes in. Uh-oh, Bruce gonna roast him, watch.
Starting point is 00:09:17 Yeah, hopefully. He needs just a screen. Thank you, Alexis. Maybe, hopefully his phone is within reaching distance and if he answers, we're going to ask him what's going on, why aren't you calling back Laura after a great hiking date? Well, a great date, bad hiking experience. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:09:33 I didn't see anything. Well, I mean, the first three quarters were amazing. Hopefully he's not still up on that mountain trying to get down, but we're going to find out. We'll reach out right after this. Second date update. If you're just joining us we're in the middle of a tense heart pumping ankle throbbing second date update with Laura heart
Starting point is 00:09:57 pumping because she went on a romantic mountain hike with a guy named Troy ankle throbbing because Troy fell and sprained his ankle on the walk down the hill. Aw, poor Troy. It was so bad, he couldn't make it down on his own. So Laura had to call out for help until medics could arrive, stayed with him the whole time, kept him calm, gave him mouth to mouth. And after all of that, after saving his life
Starting point is 00:10:21 and snatching him from the jaws of death, Troy has the gall to ghost her. Wow. Wow. Maybe she had bad breath during that mouth to mouth session. I don't care, I'm just gonna say it. Troy is a giant bee. Oh wow.
Starting point is 00:10:35 What's a bee saying for though? Big baby. Oh man. Okay, and I am dying to hear what he has to say. Don't you die too, Jeff. What if any cute woodland animals he saw and has to report on on the trail path Laura you with me I don't think he's like a big baby. He got hurt come on
Starting point is 00:10:51 So forgiving has anyone thought maybe he's upset that you talked all this big talk about the gym But then we're too weak to piggyback him all the way back to the car Yeah Oh, come on! He's not gonna expect that. Or drag him down. I don't know, I would have done it. My dad says I'm good German work in stock. I'm built to carry heavy things. Why would he relate to that? Why do you have to work that into every single second date update that we do? You're like, Brooke wants to lift a man so bad.
Starting point is 00:11:18 I will get you piggyback after this. I'll hop on your back. We're not even gonna bring that up to Troy if he answers the phone because we don't get too excited about it But let's see if he picks up we're gonna dial his number right now. Here we go. Thanks you guys Hello, hey, is this Troy? Uh, it is. Oh Troy. What? Jeff, you be nice. Hi Troy. Uh, hello? I'm sorry, it's confusing.
Starting point is 00:11:54 I'm just kidding man, we're doing something on our show. We hope you'll stick around and be a part of it. It's called Second Date Update. You know what that is? Uh, okay. Have you heard of that before? No, I haven't. Okay. Okay.
Starting point is 00:12:07 It's where we help out our listeners who have gone out on a date with somebody and a second meetup hasn't happened yet. We try and help facilitate it or figure out why the other person doesn't want to. Okay. And that seems to be the situation, at least according to one of our listeners named Laura you met the other day day she reached out to you Dude it sounds like you had a crazy hike where you got injured we heard all about it Yeah, she's been texting me a whole bunch. I don't know if I'm feeling it to be honest with you
Starting point is 00:12:39 That's kind of why I didn't reach back out to her That's the confusing part to her because she essentially saved you from the brink of death. She did not say that. Jeff exaggerated. Don't make her weird, dude. I mean, I'm not saying that the thought crossed her mind to leave you on that mountain to fend for yourself, but she did do a lot to help. She did.
Starting point is 00:13:00 After you sprained your ankle. I think you guys have the story wrong. It's that's what you guys really think happened. Okay. Well, what do we have wrong? I mean, you tried to exaggerate. Well, sorry. You know, I'm just kidding. Yeah. I'm just frustrated because we're, we're friends of Laura's and we really just want to help her out. So if you could maybe explain your side of it. Well, there isn't a my version. There's just the version and I don't know what she told you exactly. But my ankle was banged up.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I mean, you guys are laughing about it. But it was pretty bad. It was swollen immediately. I couldn't walk on it. She said that. She felt really bad for you. I know we're laughing, but that's just because that's what we do.
Starting point is 00:13:39 Obviously, you couldn't even hobble, bro. So it was really bad. I mean, that's why she called everybody she knew, got emergency services up there. Yeah, kind of. At first she tried to carry me down and she kind of dropped me back on my ankle and hit it again. Oh no! That'd be way too hard to carry someone away. That's unfortunate, but that's just bad.
Starting point is 00:14:00 She's trying, she's putting in the effort to help you. I get that, I get that. Okay, she didn't have service or whatever and neither did I I so she said she's gonna walk down the trail a little bit until she Gets service she disappeared for at least a half an hour. She came back. She was all excited I was like, okay good. Did you find somebody on the trail? She said no, no, no, I called an uber You have a car you don't need a car you someone to carry you down Yeah, a hundred percent. That's what I said to her and she basically was at all I didn't think about that like yeah, they can't drive up the mountain to just come pick me up in the car
Starting point is 00:14:38 That's not how this works. Well come on give her give her the benefit You know some people don't think well in emergency situations. We were talking about it and basically I was trying to advise her. Look, call EMTs, call emergency service, call friends, anybody that you can think of, I need some help out here. So she did do that, which is nice. And while we were sitting there waiting, she said that she figured out how to make like a homemade tourniquet for my leg. Okay.
Starting point is 00:15:04 So she wanted to get some sticks and branches and and wrap up my leg or something like that Yeah, it was like being stuck out there with nurse ratchet in the mountains Wait like she didn't do a good job. Yeah, I didn't need a tourniquet. I had a sprained ankle All right, I wasn't losing any blood or anything like that. The lymph didn't need to be chopped off Okay, it's a very simple thing. I just needed help sure, but it couldn't hurt Just in case something got worse She's trying she's not a medical Expert she's doing her best. You can't even give her her that yeah, no her best was just shockingly bad
Starting point is 00:15:47 That's all maybe okay Well, I feel like maybe she was panicked a little freaked out in the moment Just like you were doing whatever she could think of to try and help you out And you don't have to take that from me you can listen to Laura right now because she's on the other line waiting to talk To you wait. Are you serious? She's been listening the whole time. Yeah, that's how the segment works man. Sorry. Hey Troy yeah it's me Nurse Ratchet. How you doing? How you feeling? Wow she's really a nurse. I'm gonna say sorry now huh? She should not apologize. No him for calling her Nurse Ratchet. Come on Laura you know it was being you were in charge of the water. I mean what was going on
Starting point is 00:16:23 with the water? You remember that? what was going on with the water? I'm sorry. I was in charge of bringing water on the hike and I am I got a smoothie instead I drank my smoothie and then it was like so yummy that I wound up drinking choice movie, too There was an easy hike and we'd be down the mountain pretty quickly and then I could just get water when We got to the bottom no big deal Okay, so what you drink his nurse ratchet When she needed the extra nutrients to go search for help he was just sitting there on the ground At the end of the day she finally did get someone to help you right Yeah, arguably hours later and more nutrient deficient that I needed to be, but yes, for
Starting point is 00:17:08 sure. Laura, you were listening and you heard what he said about you doing the tourniquet and calling the Uber and all that stuff. He just wasn't very impressed. Like, what were you thinking listening to that? I'm not like the best outdoorsman or outdoors woman or whatever you call it. I'm not a lumberjack. I'm not a medic.
Starting point is 00:17:23 Like I did what came to mind in the spur of the moment moment and also like some ubers do have four-wheel drive So like that's what's not on This again the four-wheel drive thing again. Come on. No, they don't Does that mean you already brought up that point while you guys are on the mountain? We talked about it for like 10 minutes already It's gonna be a Hummer. They can get all over, like every type of terrain. Bro, this is at least endearing in everything.
Starting point is 00:17:50 She's just trying. It's not working, we get it, but it's cute. She's cute, she's cute. She's got good energy. Come on, Troy. Thank you. Laura, I will say, if you do go outdoors with any of your friends or family, God help them.
Starting point is 00:18:05 Hey, she's not the one with a hurt ankle. Yeah, that's right. That's a really sweet thing to say. He basically blessed her and her entire family whenever they go on adventures together. And he apologized. Troy, I'm feeling some sort of shift in you. Like you're wanting to say yes to another date with Laura, especially when we offer to pay for it.
Starting point is 00:18:23 I'm just grateful it wasn't anything more than a hurt ankle. I don't think I'd be here today if it was anything more than that. We weren't traversing Mount Everest we were just going on a little simple hike I didn't think it was a big deal I mean. I mean yeah seriously it was an Instagram worthy hike like it can't be that hard. Exactly and I'm just trying to ask you if you'd like to meet up with her one more time It doesn't have to be on a mountain. You could do it in the city somewhere Yeah, and we would pay for the date. I mean we can like go to the city and like rent a scooter I'm pretty sure both of us can fit on it
Starting point is 00:18:58 Maybe make a like reservation at the ER ahead of time before the day happens reservation at the ER ahead of time before the date happens. Is that how the ER works? Just in case. Get your reservation in early. Look, I don't want to be Mr. Pessimistic, so if we can keep it inside. I did have a good time with you at the moment where I wasn't dying. So yeah, let's give it another shot. That's not funny.
Starting point is 00:19:17 Yay! That's kind of cute. Troy, you're going on a date with Nurse Ratchet. Good for you. Yay! I hope not. Oh my god And I'll bring my tourniquet Kind of a freaky thing that she's into you guys have fun, okay
Starting point is 00:19:36 Brooklyn Jeffrey in the morning. Oh man, you know what? I could stop thinking about the entire time We were on the phone with them. Why do I want to know? I'm not sure. It was the hiking movie with James Franco, where his arm gets stuck for 127 hours on a trail. Oh no, and he has to saw it off his arm? That's based on a real story. We were dangerously close to that story this time. I never saw that movie. Laura was going to go looking for help,
Starting point is 00:19:59 and then she was going to come back up the hill with a buzz saw, be like, okay, hear me out. I have an idea. After hearing everything she tried, I'm surprised it wasn't the first time luckily he was able to see through it and realize she really was just trying to help do whatever she could or maybe she's trying to get off the phone with us I was trying to get off that mountain I think he just needs to realize that she's not gonna be his person in case of emergency Yeah, yeah, not even like a serious emergency like the mildest of emergency
Starting point is 00:20:31 Will absolutely panic. Yeah, and that's okay. That's okay. We all react differently. That's right. I want an update from them I'm sure we'll get a call from them when they're in the ER If you want some help with your dating life, feel free to email the show. We can call that person who's not calling you back. And if you want to see our big resume of second date updates, there's lots and lots and lots. Business like and not fun. You could check it out. Wherever you get your podcasts at Broken Jeffrey. Broken Jeffrey in the morning.
