Oh, no. I like hot girl summer.
Starting point is 00:01:53 What happened? This season is officially boy sober summer. And I'm thriving. I don't think it's about you. I mean, I'm glad you're sober, but it's not about that. You don't know what that is. It's gaining traction online right now as single women across the
Starting point is 00:02:12 country are trying out this new trend, abstaining from any romantic relationship with men whatsoever for the next few months. Jose, why are you cheering for them? Opposite of thriving. We're talking no hookups, no situationships,
Starting point is 00:02:29 no getting back with the exes. That doesn't count either. But you've already been with them, so it's like open. Doesn't count. One of our listeners, Emma, swore she was going to do this, and that lasted for all of six days. Oh, you're so weak. That's pretty good, I thought. Until she came up with a better idea. Emma, welcome to six days. Oh, you're so weak. Pretty good, I thought.
Starting point is 00:02:45 Until she came up with a better idea. Emma, welcome to the show. Hey, guys. What happened, Emma? You were so strong. Yeah. I know, yeah. I like tore off online dating.
Starting point is 00:02:56 I was like, over it. It's too much work. Yeah. And then a few days later, I like saw this cool trend. And I was like, okay, I want to try that. Oh. Yeah. I like saw this cool trend and I was like, okay, I want to try that. Oh yeah. And then using that trend, like that's how I found the guy a few months later that we're like calling
Starting point is 00:03:13 today. That's how I. What was this online trend that you tried that turned everything around? It was called man of the month. Man of the month. What does that mean? Is that a calendar? Can I get one? Sounds like it. Well, okay. So, like, you get 12 friends, and you have them basically set you up on one date a month for the year.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Oh. Oh. One friend per month? Exactly. Like, one friend gets their shot to be like, exactly. I can tell what your algorithm is on social media because you are doing all the trends. Oh, you know, basically. I mean, I hadn't heard this one, but it sounds like.
Starting point is 00:03:57 I guess you're right. I haven't heard of these. This is kind of rough because it requires that you have at least 12 friends. So I'm not. I know some people are less fortunate in that area. You could shorten i guess yeah i don't know i figure like this just feels way better like my friends know me you know they know you know they know what i'm into it they know all my red flags so they can avoid them it's so funny i literally had a friend recently that was like dude you would be so into this girl she's just a little too put together for you oh
Starting point is 00:04:27 i mean i get it but ouch yeah and i guess it's true because you have like friends that are always wanting to say like oh yeah no i want to set you up with someone and then it never actually happens exactly and like it almost feels like now I'm putting the burden on you. Like you keep bringing up, oh, I've got this guy. What about this one? Okay. Well, here's your chance. Do your homework.
Starting point is 00:04:52 It is a lot of pressure when your month comes up. It's like, I hope they're still single. Yeah. Right. Right. Or the opposite. Like, I hope it works. Yeah, totally.
Starting point is 00:04:59 Was the very first month successful? Okay. So the first month wasn't successful okay okay but this month oh yeah my one of my friends um has a co-worker lawrence and yeah like she showed me a picture and everything super cute i was like okay exactly. I'm already excited. And so we agreed to meet up. We met up for drinks. And honestly, like, moment one, it was already better than any online anything. Yeah, like, he's all dressed nice.
Starting point is 00:05:36 Like, he was very cute looking. And, like, he brought me a little thing of flowers. Oh, that's sweet. He put effort in. Yeah, I kind of try hard. But, yeah, that's good. Yeah, that's the. He put effort in. Yeah, I kind of try hard, but yeah, that's good. Yeah, that's the response I get, Gemma.
Starting point is 00:05:48 Dude, that's awesome. Are you texting your friend during the date? Like, oh my God. Okay, so normally I would, but I really try, I try to be good. Oh, I would.
Starting point is 00:05:56 You usually do a quick Snapchat. You're like, good. Yes, it's a quick text. Not in front of the guy, though. No, when they get off and they do something. Okay. All right, good. Right, right right you know all right well
Starting point is 00:06:07 good he made a great first impression on you how did the rest of the night go i thought it was great we had a great conversation i feel like we had a lot in common and there was even like an this like awkward funny moment that happened where i was okay so I admittedly I was wearing a very cute dress but it was a little on the cheap side admittedly and I and I got him to go to the bathroom and my like strap got caught oh no yeah it ripped like where where did it rip on the strap you're saying yeah like the strap ripped it was fine like the dress was tight enough that it didn't... Nothing came out. Right, right, right.
Starting point is 00:06:48 But what happened was he ended up, like, giving me his jacket so that I, you know, wouldn't feel too uncomfortable. Like, it all sounds so great. I don't understand why you'd be on the phone with us. Oh, yeah. Well, the problem would probably be that he's not calling her back. I know, but why wouldn't a friend tell her what's going on? I know.
Starting point is 00:07:06 So, like, yeah, it's super weird because the rest of the night, like, nothing crazy happened. Like, he waited for me, like, for my Uber, like, gave me a kiss on the cheek and everything. Yeah. And then I just stopped hearing from him. Like, I never heard anything else. At all? After the date? No.
Starting point is 00:07:22 And, like, she was trying to get a feel for what was going on. And he's just not budging. He's not telling her anything, so I don't know what's going on. Now, did you tell him about that you're the second man of the month and there are 11 other men of the month that I need to meet? No. Only 10 because she'd done one before. Oh, well, yeah, yeah, okay.
Starting point is 00:07:43 I figured maybe wait. That might scare somebody away. I feel bad for the other guys. What? 10 because she'd done one before oh well yeah yeah okay i figured maybe wait you know that might that might scare somebody away i feel bad for the other guys what well they don't know you don't you might have to go back to boy sober summer then if that doesn't work we're gonna try and help you out though with this guy lawrence we'll come back give him a call and try and get you your second date update right after this. Second date update. We've got a listener named Emma on the phone who just taught us about a new dating hack for women who are tired of the online stuff. It's called Man of the Month, where you have 12 of your friends set you up on a date each month of the year.
Starting point is 00:08:21 And every friend gets assigned a specific month. That way, instead of them just telling you, oh, I really want to set you up, and then they never actually do it, now they have a deadline. It's like a sexy homework assignment. Alexis, can I have the month of October? I saw you turning to me, and I immediately...
Starting point is 00:08:36 What about November? I'll even take January. I'm booked the entire next five years of my life. Maybe you can set Brooke up on a date then, Alexis, with one of your friends. I can help with that, too. How young are you okay with? The thing is, that's how our listener Emma got set up with a guy named Lawrence.
Starting point is 00:08:53 They went out and had drinks together, and it went so well, her clothes were literally taking themselves off. No, Joe. That is a good point. They were jumping right off of her body. It was an accident. I don't think so. Maybe an accident, maybe fate. But afterwards, he's been totally quiet,
Starting point is 00:09:11 and the friend who set her up doesn't know what's going on either. That's why she's turned to us for help. Yeah, and it was a romantic moment, right? Like, your dress broke, and he helped you out. That was awesome. He gave her a jacket, his jacket. It was very, very cute. Good.
Starting point is 00:09:24 He sounds like a real gentleman. We'll see how gentlemanly he is when we actually get him on the phone. You sound doubtful. Well, he's ghosting her. That's not super gentlemanly. No, that's really weird. I really want this guy. I don't want to do these other months.
Starting point is 00:09:37 I'm hoping this guy is it. I'm sorry. That is so cute to hear. You don't even want to do this game. You like him that much? Yeah. Yeah. That's right, because there are 10 other men of the month that she has cute to hear. You don't even want to do this game. You like him that much? Yeah. Yeah. Because there are 10 other men of the month that she has left to meet.
Starting point is 00:09:49 But if this goes well enough, we can cancel on him. I could do September for you. Could I do September for you? Say no. She's desperate to pawn off all of her old single friends. Why do you have so many single friends? Brooke's the most put together in her group. Look at the marriage statistics
Starting point is 00:10:05 okay it's not looking good well let's focus on lawrence for now i'm gonna dial him here here we go hello hey we're looking to talk with Lawrence. Speaking. Hey, Lawrence. We're a radio show. We're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. I'm sorry. What? Sorry.
Starting point is 00:10:36 I know it's confusing, but we're a show on the radio. We do this segment called, what's it called? Second Date Update. We have done literally thousands of these. I forgot too, Jeff. You're good. Sorry. Yeah. We're called Second Date Update, and I forgot too, Jeff. You're good. Sorry, yeah. It's a second date update, and we're trying to help one of our listeners that
Starting point is 00:10:49 you actually went out with the other night to get drinks with, named Emma. I mean, you guys were set up by a mutual friend. I think your co-worker set you up? Uh, yeah. Yeah, I know Emma. It was a little weird. How much do you guys know about all this? Not a lot. I know, Emma. It was a little weird. How much do you guys know about all this?
Starting point is 00:11:07 Well, I mean, enough. Yeah, yeah. We know that you guys went out to drinks, and she said she had a great time. You brought her flowers. Oh, which was so sweet. You gave her your jacket when her dress had a little wardrobe malfunction. Is all that right? Yeah, that's the general gist of how things went,
Starting point is 00:11:26 but it was really confusing. Okay. Well, that's why we're calling you, because she's also confused and doesn't know if something went wrong in between. It's just you're not calling her afterwards. Do you think that she doesn't like you? It's...
Starting point is 00:11:40 Ooh. All right, so... Let me kind of give you something from my perspective here. So I've got this co-worker. Her name is Allie. And one day out of the blue, she came up to me and she said that i'm cute too now i'm thinking in the back of my head is this ali's way of asking me out on a date oh oh oh you thought your co-worker was talking about herself and like a third person asking for a friend but like she was actually asking for a friend and that would be kind of. That coy waved at somebody likes you. Like somebody you know very well.
Starting point is 00:12:27 Right. Oh, God. Exactly. And look, she never really said that it was a setup or anything. What? She didn't show you a picture of Emma or anything? No, because he doesn't care about women's looks. He's not that type of guy.
Starting point is 00:12:41 Everybody cares about a picture before you go out on a blind date. Maybe shower people. I mean, unless you think that the person you're dating is the person standing in front of you. Lawrence, you date for personality, right? Yeah, always. Always. Good answer. My voice got really high.
Starting point is 00:12:58 So you thought at that point your co-worker was saying that it was her. That's what I was thinking because, like, low-key, for the longest time, I've had a crush on Allie. Maybe this was, like, her reciprocating it. So you thought the flowers you got, you were actually bringing to Allie? Yeah, like, I was just told to go to this bar at 7, and in my head, I'm thinking, like, this could be it. Oh, my God. is so so what i feel awful what happened when emma showed up oh well okay so i i get there and then this random girl comes up to me and she's like hi are you lawrence and she was like really super sweet and i'm like
Starting point is 00:13:41 yeah do i know you from somewhere oh no and it's like she's my date oh my god when you're asking those icebreaker questions when she said it was good right off the bat in your head you're like oh she did say that that's a good point oh my god good on you for like sticking out the night i mean don't get me wrong for what it was it was still a good date okay i've had a crush on ally and that's really no i was expecting to be there that is not gonna be good and obviously ally doesn't know that because she would never set you up with emma exactly and it was just this whole weird awkward thing i mean this is gonna get worse though it's gonna get real yeah i'm sorry to tell you the
Starting point is 00:14:21 awkwardness might go up a notch because actually we have Emma on the phone listening to this. Oh, God. Oh, no. Yeah, not Allie. Yeah. Yeah. Oh. Makes sense.
Starting point is 00:14:34 Dude, not your fault. Not your fault. No, like, I do want to come out and say, like, I did have a really good time with you and it was a lot of fun. But it just, that's not what I had in mind. Is there, and this is going to sound like super callous with everything else going on. But is there any way that we can flip this around a little bit? Like, can we reverse this a little bit? You're coming off right off the bat.
Starting point is 00:15:02 She hasn't even processed any of this, dude. Chill. Bro, she still likes you right now. Emma? Wow. I don't even know what is happening. Are you okay? Are you okay?
Starting point is 00:15:16 It's neither of our faults, and I think I would have been able to get over that if you didn't ask me to ask my friend. Like, oh, my God. like a settle for a minute wow i i promise like under i mean under different circumstances if valley wasn't involved i mean something could have potentially happened but like i mean like we've had this great relationship at work and and really i just thought that this was like she's kind of shy sometimes and i just thought this was her way of picking up on me and speaking in third person
Starting point is 00:15:51 yeah wow um are you okay fuck yeah i'll be fine i i mean oh my god oh emma this is your friend ali's fault because she never said specifically that she was setting him up with a different woman. I mean, I think she probably was not assuming that Lawrence thought that it was her. You and Allie need to go get drinks, girl. You need to write up a script for your friends in the next few months. Laura, don't worry about her. She's got ten dudes lined up the rest of the year, so she's gonna be fine, Laura. Yeah, I mean, I really am gonna be fine,
Starting point is 00:16:28 but... Oh, my God. Really, though, I mean, if you do have a chance to have drinks with Allie, maybe just... If you liked Allie so much, why didn't you just ever ask her out, Lawrence? I mean, she's engaged, so I just thought this was her date.
Starting point is 00:16:47 What? Oh, my God. Are you serious? Hang up the phone. This guy's an idiot. She's not married yet. It's just to make him jealous. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:16:58 Oh, my God. Okay, so are you back to sober boy summer yet? I think so, because I... Oh, no. Okay. Does this? I think so. Oh, no. Okay. Does this count as rock bottom? Oh, no. For him, yeah.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Well, we can't know for sure until we offer to send you guys out on a date. No, I'm still going to do that. Allie could come along and be the third wheel. I mean, I'd be okay with, like, double dating if Allie's there. I mean, it could be fun. Fiance. That's a big difference. Fiance, not a full ring on the finger yet.
Starting point is 00:17:30 There is a ring on the finger. It's just not the full ring. It doesn't have the wedding band. So, I mean, Lawrence is up for anything as long as Allie's there. Emma, do you still want to try this? Please say no. No, I'm good. He's clearly only into engaged women. Maybe you could take Lawrence as your date to Allie's wedding. No, I'm good. He's clearly only into engaged women.
Starting point is 00:17:46 Maybe you could take Lawrence as your date to Ali's wedding. Oh, my God. Oh, my God. He would love to be your plus one. Nobody's going to stand up and interrupt the ceremony. I'm not saying that I wouldn't, but I probably would. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. You know, that made me think, why are we not doing more second date updates with engaged people?
Starting point is 00:18:08 Oh. I think there's one word clue there. Yeah, engaged. Well, I just think it would open up a whole new level of drama that we haven't been able to tap into. Yeah, and maybe lawsuits. Who knows? That's not our problem. So, yeah, I'm not happy with our producer.
Starting point is 00:18:25 He's not getting enough engaged people who are looking to stray. So he's fired again from the show. Again? Again. We'll welcome him back eventually. But, yeah, that was a wild one. So make sure if you're setting somebody up on a date that you explicitly say it's a setup and it's not with yourself. You would think that people would assume it's not with you when you are wearing an engagement
Starting point is 00:18:48 ring. Like it feels like you wouldn't have to say that, but the knowledge of being engaged should be enough. Yeah. But a lot of men think that a women just giving them attention is enough. Yeah. So make sure you make that clear and also make sure you follow us at Brooke and Jeffrey wherever you get your podcast, Apple, Spotify, whatever it is.
