podcasts second date update you know whenever people say that they saw a movie on their date,
I just assume they mean Netflix and chill.
Yeah, totally.
That's what it means.
That's a good assumption these days.
And probably very little actual movie watching when they say the thing.
That's true, because you're like, how was the movie?
I don't really remember.
And not really actually much chilling if you're doing it right.
That's a good point, Brooke.
Apparently there was a time before Netflix when you'd go out and you'd have to see a film in person.
In a theater.
That's right.
In public.
When was that?
Like the 1980s?
I don't know.
I think that's when my parents met.
Not as cool to take your pants off there.
No.
Not as acceptable.
One of our listeners, Joseph, says he recently took a woman out to the movies.
I don't know whether his pants were on or off during it, but I guess we'll find out.
Joseph, how you doing, man?
I'm doing well, thanks.
My pants were on.
Okay.
Wow.
Good to know.
Okay.
Must have felt weird.
Can I ask, why did you choose a movie theater for your first date?
Well, we had bonded over Marvel, you know, our love for Marvel.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
That is cool.
Those are always better in theaters, too.
Absolutely.
For sure.
I mean, they're just built for theaters.
Yeah.
That's the whole reason they make that film.
And their whole universe.
Like, there's a lot to talk about when you're like, oh, we—
You can't talk in the theaters, though.
No, you're right. You're right. There's a lot of angles that, like, the convos can go because there's so lot to talk about when you're like you can't talk in the theaters though no you're right you're right there's a lot of angles that like the convos can go because
there's so much in the marvel universe right so what was this woman's name monica monica did you
meet her on a marvel yeah did you meet her on a marvel fan site no we met online but we did connect
over marvel okay okay and so you guys decided to go see one of them together.
How did it go?
Like, there's always one out.
I know.
There's always, like, seven out all at the same time.
Exactly.
But how did things go at the theater?
Things were great.
I mean, we were, like, both really vibing the movie.
We laughed at the same parts, which is good.
And it went really well.
There was one thing that happened, but I'm not sure if it's like the reason
that she's not calling or not.
There's a romantic part in the movie
and I look over to her
and she's kind of like looking at the screen,
like wide-eyed and everything.
So I didn't turn to look where I put my hand
and I went to go put my arm around her
and I kind of like punched her in the face a little bit.
Oh!
That's awkward.
Are you mad at her?
I know, and we both kind of laughed about it
that's really funny oh what a mistake that's hilarious wait can i ask you though i mean like
in that moment did you end up still doing it did you still do the arm across over no yeah no no no
yeah you gotta abort abandon ship at that point isn't it kind of weird i mean did you guys go
to drinks or anything beforehand?
Does every date
have to involve
getting drunk, Brooke?
No, I'm just saying,
like, did you spend
any time getting
to know each other?
Like, you meet somebody
online.
Oh, that's a different question.
At the end.
Yeah, but I think
drinking is talking.
No, it could be coffee.
I'm just saying,
did you do anything
before the movie?
Because you enter a movie,
you don't talk the whole time,
and then you're suddenly putting your arm around this stranger.
Yeah, that's true.
That seems kind of like an intense move if you didn't connect prior to the movie.
I mean, we had been talking online for a bit.
It wasn't like a Tinder thing where it's like we're in the same vicinity.
We met a little bit before the movie so we could just walk around a little
and kind of share our excitement over
over the movie okay so there was enough time before the movie started where you could actually
chat with each other and get to know each other a little bit before the movie started but
you never did answer brooke's question about alcohol was there any
i snuck a little bit in. Oh. Okay.
You were sneaking drinks.
So hold a gallon of vodka out of your throat.
It's the largest size drink.
That's a good question.
What did you sneak it in?
What do you mean?
Just a bottle.
Like a water bottle. Oh, like a water bottle.
Okay.
I thought maybe there was a flask.
You guys at the movie place?
What time are you going to turn me in over here?
No, no, no.
We're not snitching.
No, no.
Josh is looking for ideas.
I know.
I want to know.
I want to know what works.
So, okay.
So how did things go after the movie was over, after you were done punching her in the face?
So we went outside and we were outside of the theater and the conversation was going good, I thought.
And I thought it was like building up to me going in
for a kiss and i went to go in and she gives me a hug oh yeah well maybe she saw it coming and she
knew how the over the shoulder arm grab went so she was like i better get out of here
yeah so that was a little disappointing and then then she was like, all right, I got to go.
And then that was it.
Oh, man.
I got to say, it sounds like she wasn't feeling it.
Like she didn't give you any like, we'll do it again sometime.
That's like an abrupt halt.
Yeah.
Nope, goodbye.
There's another Marvel movie coming out next week.
We should probably go see it.
She didn't give you anything?
Nothing. Nothing.
Nothing.
I'm confused.
I thought we had a good time and, like, we connected.
I don't know.
I thought maybe I'm just completely misreading this, but.
Yeah.
Oh, yikes.
Well, we're going to play a song.
We'll come back.
We'll call Monica for you, and we'll try and get you your second date update.
All right, ma'am?
I appreciate it.
Yeah, he'll be your real-life superhero.
No. There we go. Stop. Yeah, yeah look at that's my comic joke yeah what i don't know
we're just gonna do it after this hold on the success of today's second date update really comes down to one simple question and that's can you come back from accidentally
punching your date in the face of movies?
I can't tell you how many times we've had to ask that question on this show before.
We're going to have to do it again.
It was a flirting punch.
I mean, it wasn't closed fist, I hope.
I mean, you're just trying to reach around.
Yeah, exactly.
Reach around is a weird way to say that.
That's not a good date. around reach around is a weird way to say that one of our listeners Joseph
took his date to the new Marvel movie and while he was trying to put his arm
around her he accidentally clocked her in the head their night ended with a
really quick hug before she ran off saying she had to get going so now he
needs us to be his sidekicks and fight for him to get another chance at a date.
Yeah, we're going to be sidekicks.
Joseph, where are you at right now?
Where's your head at?
I don't know.
I'm nervous.
I just want to see what she says.
Yeah.
I mean, you did apologize, right, when you accidentally hit her?
Yeah.
I mean, it was like, oh, my God, sorry.
Like one of those, you know, and like we kind of laughed about it.
I don't know.
And you're in the middle of a movie, so you can't talk a lot and people around you probably hate you
yeah you like here and everyone shushed you yeah i have no one stepped in to stop you
abuse your date in silence all right no we're on your team man so we're here for you bro we're
gonna call monica and we're to see what she has to say.
You ready?
I'm ready.
All right.
I'm going to be the black widow to your Captain America.
Do they go together?
No, they really don't.
She's sexy, though.
Right?
That's Scarlett Johansson.
Am I right?
So just picture me in a black, leather, skin-tight outfit as I dial Monica's number.
I'd rather not.
You're the only one. We're a team. We've got to have each other's number. I'd rather not. You're the only one.
We're a team.
We've got to have each other's back.
Here we go.
Tight back in that outfit.
Hello?
Hi, I'm looking for Monica.
This is Monica. This is Monica.
Hey, Monica, how you doing?
My name is Jeff from the radio show
Brooke and Jeffrey in the Morning.
Hi, can I help you?
Yeah, I mean,
it sounds like you don't know who we are.
I know on the radio I'm Jeff,
but I'm also known by Batman.
No!
Sometimes I like to wander around the city and help strangers with their love lives.
And that's actually true.
I just realized Batman's not in the Marvel Universe.
And this is a big fail on my part.
Oh, I didn't know that.
Me either.
Alfred!
We were still going with it anyway.
Sorry, Monica. Are you still there there yeah um what's this about wow she's laughing hard she really loves batman you hate dc don't
you monica don't hang up on us yeah so the real reason that i'm calling is because we're doing
something from our show called the second date update it's where we help our listeners who've
been out on a date recently and they can't reach the person that they went out with sorry this is all really confusing the batman all of it
i'm just confused right now sorry we're having too much yeah i'll just be a little bit more
straightforward with you you recently went out with a guy to the movies named joseph
yeah okay you guys bonded over loving marvel together hence our attempt to also bonding with you and it backfired so he's the one
that reached out to us because you're not texting him back after the date and he thinks maybe he
knows why but he isn't a hundred percent sure okay so you just like want to know why basically
yeah just to put his mind at ease or i mean if he did something wrong he would like to know so that going forward
he doesn't do it again all right it's gonna make me sound really bad is it you sound bad or him
sound bad no it's gonna make me sound bad um i don't know because he punched you in the face
during your day so you can say anything to us pretty much at least according to him it was
cute honestly it was great um great great okay no i. Great? Great. Okay. He likes it.
No, I don't mean like great as in I loved it.
It was just like a funny thing that happened during the movie.
Right.
Okay, good.
Well, I think it's just good to clarify that.
Okay, good.
I mean, it's good, though.
It's a good sign that you could like laugh at his mistake like that.
Yeah, and it's good because we've had people on the show before that have really enjoyed
being punched, too.
Their family all gets in on it and so remember
it was a woman it was a woman it was a whole deal so we're just anyway we're looking to make sure
that we get the real reason why you're not calling him back okay so basically i'm like a huge marvel
fan like i met joe on a dating app and I had met another guy that wanted to watch the new Marvel show that just dropped on Disney+.
And it just timed out weird.
And so I actually left the movie with Joe and went to meet this other guy at his house.
Shut up.
To watch the Disney Plus show?
You've been one day?
That is so long.
You doubled down on your Marvel boys?
Yeah, I don't feel good about it i
mean i double booked myself and i was late to see the other guy so wait are you not calling joe back
because the the other guy turned out better you liked him more not necessarily it's just like his
situation is it's like this animated series so there there's going to be new episodes. And then we kind of got into watching other Marvel shows
that we kind of wanted to binge together.
So I came over like two days after and watched more with him.
And so that's just more of a consistent thing.
No way.
Are you saying that you can't decide whether or not you like him or not
until the entire series is over?
I think it's just like a
more consistent plan like he's like the marvel tv show guy whereas like joe i guess would be like
the marvel movie you have a reason to go back to dinner a couple minutes later
but the movie was just a one-off i mean like there's not another movie coming out till like
labor day weekend there's marvel sequels literally like every month. This sounds like
you're basing
your dating life
on the show
you're watching
instead of the person
you're out with.
Well, like,
it sounds bad
when you say it like that.
I mean,
movie taste is a big deal, Brooke.
If it's the wrong one.
But I'm sure that Joe
would like to watch
the series with you too.
Yeah.
He loves Marvel.
Well, that's fine,
but I'm kind of already booked for that.
Oh.
Oh, no.
So you're not in a relationship with the other dude because you like him.
You're just in a relationship with him.
I'm not in a relationship with either of them.
I have my Marvel TV guy and my Marvel movie guy, and they're kind of separate.
Oh.
I kind of like that.
So when the movie does come out, are you willing to go and see it with Joe?
Yeah, I think I'll probably hit him up.
In a couple months.
Okay.
Wait, is this a date or a viewing buddy?
I don't know.
And I really want to know what Joe has to think about this.
Because, Monica, I didn't tell you this, but your Marvel movie guy is on the other line listening to this conversation.
And he wants to talk to you.
I'm just disgusted.
Whoa.
Okay.
I'm the Marvel movie guy?
I'm in the Marvel movie guy box?
I didn't even know that box existed.
I know.
It's a brand new category.
This is why I didn't want to tell you.
I feel better to just go to the movies and
not have it be like explicitly what it is that's really vague yeah that's really vague i feel kind
of bad but like i didn't plan it this way it's just what happened okay i mean she's kind of right
i i feel like while you're while you're confused and you don't know how to explain yourself, Monica, I get that.
But just take the movies and the TV shows out of the picture for a second.
And which guy do you like hanging out with more?
I guess it's hard because it just depends what's on right now.
Monica, you can't imagine yourself like at dinner.
Picture it together. You're sitting down and sitting across from you the first face you want to see is tony stark i mean he's my favorite
iron man downey jr oh man i don't know that that's the option at least you didn't say group
okay let's all be thankful i mean maybe joseph j, man, I haven't heard from you in a bit.
What are you thinking right now?
I'm a one Marvel woman kind of man.
Okay.
One Marvel woman man.
That sounds like an awful Marvel character.
I mean, when the next Marvel movie comes out,
you don't want to call her and see if she's up for seeing it again?
You know she'll say yes.
He doesn't have to call me.
I'm going to call him when that happens that happens i'm gonna get the tickets in advance
you know i gotta get there on like opening night but that's liberty weekend i was gonna call him
anyway i'm gonna save you the trouble you don't have to do that oh that's right you don't have
to do that because we're gonna offer to do it for you no i don't think he wants to we're gonna
offer to send you guys out on a date that is the voice the voice in the back correct okay that's jose let jeff finish his question it's important don't
talk over the black widow she's doing her magic okay she's doing would you like to go out again
we'll pay for it before he starts doing martial arts wait who are you asking are you asking monica
are you asking i'm asking monica okay monica, would you go out with Joe one more time?
We'll pay for it.
Absolutely not.
No?
Well, Joe, I was asking Monica there, but it sounds like you've changed your mind.
Joe, you know, we're not exclusive.
I feel like you're taking it really personally.
And, like, the show's going to end.
You know what I mean?
Oh, my God.
Thank you all. i appreciate your help today
thank you very much oh no he's leaving joe's quitting this feels exactly the same as when
iron man died at the end of wait i mean died i mean i thought superman never died
spoiler alert and then batman shows up at the end of the movie. He's the one that killed him.
Okay, that's not true.
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
