Starting point is 00:01:31 Second Date Update. I don't know about you guys, but I've only had cops show up to my dates two or three dozen times. A dozen? And all of them had tearaway pants. So I didn't even mind being handcuffed on them. That's not bad.
Starting point is 00:01:47 I was going to say, I know who the problem is here, but I still know. Still, calling the authorities in the middle of a romantic encounter
Starting point is 00:01:53 usually not a great sign. Yeah, it's not. But one of our listeners, Tara, sent us an email saying her friends almost dialed the police during her first date.
Starting point is 00:02:04 Oh! And she says it was a good thing. What? What the heck? Let's learn about this. Tara, welcome to the show. Hi. You are safe, right?
Starting point is 00:02:13 Yeah, I'm okay. She obviously has no duct tape on her mouth, so that's a good start. Okay. Very interested to hear what happened on your date. Tell us what's going on. Who's this guy that you met? Well, his name is Rich. Okay. I Met him online.
Starting point is 00:02:26 I'm already like assuming there's some huge red flag if your friends want to call the police. Well, I mean, it was kind of my fault. Oh, you're the red flag. Okay, I'm cool with that now. Okay, so you met Rich online. What attracted you
Starting point is 00:02:42 to Rich? You know, I don't do online dating that much, but when I saw his profile, he had the cutest dog. And he also had this quote in his description saying, human looking for another human to share a pizza with. And I'm like, okay, I love pizza. It's my favorite food. That doesn't sound like it's actually a person anymore.
Starting point is 00:03:02 Is there a choice to put non-human in your dating profile? Are aliens already hopping onto Tinder now? It's like he's trying to make a joke, but it didn't come out right or something. She liked it. It made you laugh? Oh, yeah, of course. Of course. That's all that matters. Did you humans get pizza together? Is that what you ended up doing?
Starting point is 00:03:20 Yes, we did. He arranged the date for us, and really all of this is just my fault. I'm the one that messed up. How did you mess up? I mean, the date for us. And really, all of this is just my fault. Like, I'm the one that messed up. How did you mess up? I mean, the date was fabulous. I mean, I show up there. I see the guy, and he's stunning.
Starting point is 00:03:32 You know, I give Rich this huge hug. He's stunning. We don't hear that about men very often. That's a really nice compliment. No, I mean, this guy, wow. Like, I really lucked out. He was way better looking than the photos. Oh, that's awesome. At least he wasn't stunning because he was so ugly. Yeah. That's a good thing. He was way better looking than the photos. Oh, that's awesome.
Starting point is 00:03:45 At least he wasn't stunning because he was so ugly. Yeah. That's a good thing. He was stunning in a good way. Yes. The conversation was so great that I had forgot to check my phone. Oh. Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Now this is starting to make sense. Why? Your girlfriends were trying to check in or something? Yeah. Yeah. I had promised them that, like, 10 to 15 minutes into the date, I would give them an update, kind of let them know I was safe. That's really soon into a date.
Starting point is 00:04:08 He showed up. Emergency. It was like the stupidest thing because my phone was on silent and I had missed dozens of text messages from them asking like, are you OK? What's going on? But I was just there. I was having the time of my life. OK, you were so into what was happening with you and rich that you totally forgot it was a good thing exactly it's like when your parents tell you when you were a kid like you better be home or call us by this time and you lose track five minutes later they're like literally calling the police yeah yeah so i would do that for three weeks how long did it take for you to see the text messages from your friends oh my god it
Starting point is 00:04:46 took me two hours oh no oh so they were legit worried yeah but it wasn't even me checking my phone there was a waiter that came up to our table he's like there's a call for you what oh because you told them where you were gonna to be. And so they called the restaurant. Is that what happened? That's exactly right. And oh, my God. Like, it just made it made everything so weird. And I got up and I took the call. And afterwards, you know, I texted my friend saying, like, hey, we'll probably be here for a little longer.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Don't worry about us. Yeah, it was totally my mistake. They were freaked out. Oh, my God. You have good friends. You have good friends. I'd forget. I'd be like, oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Alexis was on a date yesterday and I forgot to text her. They would just stalk my location and be like, see my roommate. Wait, did you tell him your friends called the restaurant? Or did you just say like, oh, these scam callers are getting real bad nowadays? No, I don't want your warranty. Not interested. Well, I felt so embarrassed about it all. I kind of just brushed it off.
Starting point is 00:05:42 I feel like as a guy, you wouldn't want to hear from the girl that you're with, by the way, I told my friends I would warn them if you were okay. I didn't think of that, actually. No, no, though, it's like dating nowadays. I mean, everybody's got to be careful. I feel like the dudes should be telling their friends to check in on them. It's not just the women.
Starting point is 00:06:00 Dudes are just like, tell me if she actually showed up, bro. High fives all around. That'd be so nice. Okay. But the friends knew that you were okay. And how did the rest of the date go? I mean, it went great. I don't think that affected anything at all.
Starting point is 00:06:13 We kept talking. We were there so long that we closed down the restaurant. Oh, my gosh. Yeah. And then after that, I mean, he just, he gave me a kiss. And how was it? It was really sweet. I mean, he just, he gave me a kiss. Aww. How was it? It was really sweet. I mean, the guy is so attractive, but, like, even if he was a bad kisser, I would, you know.
Starting point is 00:06:31 That's a lot. Coach him. I don't think I've ever met a guy like that before. Okay. And so how long has it been since the date happened? It's been almost a week now. I've just been waiting for him to make that move and I haven't heard anything. Do you have any guesses as to why?
Starting point is 00:06:47 Not at all. I mean, even after like the phone call I took with my friends, we were there for so much longer. We were having such a great conversation and I would assume he wouldn't have kissed me if he didn't enjoy spending time with me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:06:59 Yeah, that's true. Well, don't underestimate men and what we're willing to do. I mean, even girl, I think Alexis will kiss anyone because she's bored. Yeah. Why not? Especially if you stayed there the whole night.
Starting point is 00:07:09 Yeah. Hours. Yeah, that's a long time. Yeah, that's true. You'll stick around for hours. We'll see how strong this human-to-human connection really is when we come back, call Rich, and try and get you a second date update right after this. Do you need to let your friends know that you're good on this call, by the way?
Starting point is 00:07:26 No. Okay. Just tell them to tune in. They can listen. Okay. Make sure they're listening to make sure you're okay. Your second date update next. Second date update.
Starting point is 00:07:36 I know whenever Jose is gone in the bathroom for over 10 minutes, we all contact the police and let them know. Yeah, right. Just in case. He's supposed to text us how it's going in there. How are we supposed to know that he's okay? Am I supposed to text updates? You don't need to send them to me.
Starting point is 00:07:54 Don't send them to me. Take me out of that chat. I'm worried about you. And I only bring that up because one of our listeners, Tara, was supposed to contact her friends to let them know that her first date with Rich was going well, but they hit it off
Starting point is 00:08:09 so incredibly that she got distracted and never texted them. Missed all of their calls during the date and wasn't even aware that it was going on until the waiter came over and said, uh, your friends are on the line. This is two hours into the day and they're wanting to make sure that you're okay.
Starting point is 00:08:25 I mean, it is the longest pizza date ever. Two hours at a pizza place? I'd be worried. But luckily it all worked out after that, except for the fact that he's not calling her back. Yeah, that little thing. That is a tiny problem. But luckily it's a problem we can tackle.
Starting point is 00:08:40 Right, Tara? Yeah, I'm excited to find out what's going on. Okay. I think even if you come clean and tell him my friends called to check up on me, that doesn't seem like a deal breaker. No, it seems like you have good friends. It should be a green flag, not a red flag. Exactly. You don't think so, Jeff?
Starting point is 00:08:56 Disagree. What? You have high-maintenance friends who are going to worry about you? They're not high-maintenance. They're just caring. You just have to prove you're not creepy. Yes. That's all.
Starting point is 00:09:04 Maybe it is the issue. Who knows? I thought for sure Jeff was going to be're just caring. You just have to prove you're not creepy. Yes. That's all. Well, maybe it is the issue. Who knows? I thought for sure Jeff was going to be like, disagree. You have friends? Well, that also surprises me. Yeah, Jeff would just be like, hey, what are you guys doing? Very jealous. Can I come over?
Starting point is 00:09:15 Anyway, let's get Colin Rich here and see what he has to say. You ready, Tara? I'm ready. Okay, here we go. I'm dialing his number right now. Hello? Hey, we're looking for Rich. This is Rich.
Starting point is 00:09:36 Okay. Hey, man. You're on the radio right now with a show called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Hey, Rich. Hey. Hi. Hi. Doesn't happen very often. It's okay. This is a good thing. Hey, Rich. Hi. Doesn't happen very often. It's okay. This is
Starting point is 00:09:48 a good thing. It's a good call because we're trying to set you up on another date with one of our listeners. Oh, okay. All right, Rich. Who would that be? It's a girl that you've already been out with once to a pizza place. Her name's Tara.
Starting point is 00:10:06 Remember? Yeah, I remember. Okay. We're not going to read into that at all. First, anyway. She sounds lovely. Yeah, it was a memorable date for sure. That's good. Is it memorable in a good way? It was a memorable date for sure. That's good. That's good. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Is it memorable in a good way? No, I wouldn't say that. What? All right. That's kind of blunt. It sounds like you guys spent so much time together. Yeah, we heard a little bit about the date from Tara, some highlights about being at the pizza place and having a blast for hours apparently.
Starting point is 00:10:44 I mean, honestly, she had no lowlights. It was all highlights. No, yeah, for real. It was how you guys connected. So she's just confused why it's been a week since then and you haven't reached out to her. I mean, I wanted to reach out with her. I just feel like I couldn't reach out to her.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Like, the police came to the date. What? What? The police came? Yeah, she didn't tell you? No. No? Wait, this isn't like a theme restaurant.
Starting point is 00:11:09 Like, police pizza or anything. Just run it every 30 minutes. Pizza 5-0. Yeah. You're talking legit cops. Yeah, they were waiting outside the restaurant by my car. What the heck? Wait, what?
Starting point is 00:11:22 What happened? Yeah. At that point, I didn't know what was going on so I was just trying to answer their questions yeah what was their questions about? why were they there? they started asking me
Starting point is 00:11:35 are you out with a girl? apparently I had a warrant out for my arrest you have a warrant bro? like a. You have a warrant, bro? Like a previous warrant? It's just this thing. So anyway, the fact that they were there,
Starting point is 00:11:53 you know, it ended up not being good for me. Wait, you got arrested? Did you get arrested? Yeah, I had to spend the night in jail. No. Well, not no. Did you deserve it from the previous warrant? I mean, it could just be unpaid parking tickets I had to spend the night in jail. No. Well, not no. Did you deserve it from the previous warrant?
Starting point is 00:12:10 I mean, it could just be unpaid parking tickets or something, Alexis. You better watch out, you know? Yeah, it was something stupid. But anyway, I didn't really want to talk much after that. Not a good way to set that tone. I do not think she knows that that happened. Well, I mean, she didn't know that that happened. but now she does because we didn't mention this, Rich, but Tara's been on the other line this whole time wanting to talk to you. Yeah, hey, Rich. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:12:35 Be quick. This is his one phone call. Sorry, sorry. We call them collect. Tara, did you have any idea that there were police? No. Oh, no, not at all. Oh, my God. They said that
Starting point is 00:12:48 they alerted the police because they were worried about me, but... Oh, my... It was your roommate that called the police? Oh, my gosh. Well, yeah, but the police never indicated that they would show up there or anything to them. Oh, my God. That's kind of what police do when you call them.
Starting point is 00:13:04 Those darn police following up on things. God, they're so rude. Call them for a missing person. We may look after it. Why would your roommates do that? Like, I understand they're checking on you, but they called the restaurant. No, that is not protective. That's crazy.
Starting point is 00:13:18 They were worried about her. She was gone for two hours. It's not like she was missing for 24 hours. Then you call the police. We'll do that with one of your children the next time that you don't call them. It's not like she was missing for 24 hours then you call the police we'll do that with one of your children the next time that you don't call the same okay and they even called the restaurant and talked to her they found out she was okay like why would they call the police before that that is true if they call the cops first that's tara do you have any answers for us here we're confused i mean i'm i'm so confused too because like i said bye to him and
Starting point is 00:13:44 i went to my car, and that's it. Like, I didn't see any cops. I had no idea. But I'm, like, my mind is now jumping to, like, so many different conclusions. Like, I want to know what the warrant is for. Like, did you do something, like, really bad? I mean, what does it matter? Like, the point is, I got arrested.
Starting point is 00:13:59 I don't want to talk about it. It's just a stupid thing. Look, it matters to me because because like we we spent so long together i learned so much about you and now i'm hearing this like it completely changes everything i knew about you well it's not like something that you bring up on the first date like oh yeah the interesting facts about me are i like dogs and i have a warrant out for my arrest but bro put yourself into terrorist shoes if you in her situation, you might want to know who you were out with that night. It's not like it'd be my first ex-felon I've dated.
Starting point is 00:14:31 You'd want to know what type of felony. See, I think that Grand Theft Auto is fine. As long as you, you know, don't do it anymore. In her situation, but I want to know. Yeah, I think we all want to know. Would you mind telling us what it is, Rich? If it's really bad, we'll take it out. It's stupid.
Starting point is 00:14:48 I had a neighbor's kid keep kicking his ball into my yard, and I didn't return the ball. That's it? So you stole a kid's bouncy ball? Yeah, I stole a kid's ball. So wait, that doesn't make sense. So the parents called the police on you?
Starting point is 00:15:09 The parents called the police about stolen property. You know, I got fined, and I didn't show up to court. That's all pretty stupid. And it is dumb. Yeah. I mean, does that make you feel better? I feel worse right now. What?
Starting point is 00:15:24 What? That was like the best case answer. Maybe she didn't finish her sentence. You mean you feel worse about the whole incident, right? About your friend. Yeah, now I feel like it's all my fault. If I would have checked my phone, the police wouldn't have showed up there. He wouldn't have this huge hassle.
Starting point is 00:15:41 Is there any way I can make it up to you, Rich? Yeah, you can make it up to her on another date that we would pay for, if you're willing to go out with Tara one more time. If you get me arrested again, I swear to God. We can work around your upcoming next court date. Yeah. You have a three-strike policy. Get me arrested twice, shame on me.
Starting point is 00:16:00 Get arrested three times, shame on you. That's how the saying goes, too. We're going to go with it. We need an answer from you, Rich. Yes or no, three times. Shame on you. That's how the saying goes. We're going to go with it. We need an answer from you, Rich. Yes or no, another day or two. All right. If you can promise 5-0 won't be involved, I think I can handle that. All right.
Starting point is 00:16:13 Tara, your friends won't call the cops on this one? Her friends are going to be so protective after she tells them that the guy got thrown in jail. Are you kidding me? Maybe just bring them on the date. All right. Well, successful second date, you guys. I mean, this is great. I'm glad I have some clarity now.
Starting point is 00:16:28 I was like racking my brain for too long. Yeah. Next time you just need to call the local prisons and see who's been booked. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. I could just imagine they go out somewhere on the next date and he gets pulled over for speeding. He's going to be like, did your friends tell the cops we were going to take this route? She's like, no, my friend is the cop. Poor guy's going to be paranoid
Starting point is 00:16:50 for the rest of his life whenever he goes out with anyone. All I could think of is the first time he actually meets the friends is going to be so awkward. Oh, I didn't think of that. So awkward.
Starting point is 00:17:00 To make it even, he needs to call the cops on them. Oh, good call. Let's just all waste the police services. That's a great idea, Jeff. Or maybe not cops. Let's call the fire department. Okay.
Starting point is 00:17:10 Maybe another. The Coast Guard. I mean, women would love some firemen. That's true. We're doing a good service here. And I do hope that it works out between them and we can actually get an update update from those two. After he serves his time, of course, for Grand Theft Bouncy Ball. Talk about opposites, though.
Starting point is 00:17:28 Really? It might actually work out, and it could work out for you if you want to email the show. We'll call that person who isn't calling you back. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Jon Stewart is back in the host chair at The Daily Show, which means he's also back in our ears on The Daily Show Ears edition podcast.
