Starting point is 00:02:39 or wherever you get your podcasts. Ooh, in for a treat today. We got an update update. Hey, it's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. Now the way these work is we wanna make sure everybody's on the same page, because honestly, we need to re-listen to this stuff when Jeff tells us, oh, you know that couple
Starting point is 00:02:55 that was on the show six months ago, they're back. We're like, we don't remember what happened. Yeah. I don't remember six minutes ago. Yeah. So we're gonna replay the original episode when they were on, and then after, we're going to have them back on the phone
Starting point is 00:03:08 and tell us what's happened since. What's happened since. So you've got to stick around through the whole thing on this one. And comments, we love those. Yes, I saw one from Yuki who said, on my way from Germany to a vacation in Norway, and listening to this while on the bus, the best time killer
Starting point is 00:03:22 ever. And it's such a foreign thought for us in the States, like to be able to be on a bus and go to this while on the bus, the best time killer ever. Right. It is such a foreign thought for us in the States, like to be able to be on a bus and go to Norway. I know! That's so cool. You're the most annoying person on the train because you're laughing so much. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I love it. All right, let's get this update started right now. We've all heard the famous cliche, it's like Christmas in July. Yeah. Well, we're literally doing it. What do you mean? We've all heard the famous cliche, it's like Christmas in July. Yeah! Well, we're literally doing it. What do you mean? Because we did a second date call back in December featuring two potential lovers who met at a work holiday party.
Starting point is 00:03:54 Okay. And even though that night didn't go the way they planned, and frankly our call with them didn't go much better, somehow we've got them both back on the phone for a very surprising second date update update It's a Christmas in July special and it happens next second date update Alexis is there one sentence a random guy could say to you that would make you instantly want to kiss him Other than ma'am, can I get your license and registration please? Oh.
Starting point is 00:04:27 Yeah he's gonna get your info. What about asking for like my Starbucks order? Oh. You know, that simple? Buying me a coffee? That changes my whole day. Yeah, that is great. I thought you had a higher price than that.
Starting point is 00:04:37 No! Just six dollars? Three shots of espresso rice? I'm set. That is a high price. Wow. I don't know about that move, but one of our listeners says he was taught something that he claims can get any member of the opposite sex
Starting point is 00:04:49 to go in for the kiss right after you meet them. Okay. A kiss? I'm sorry, after you meet them? Right when you meet them. That's wild. I don't believe this. I'm curious to find out what it is.
Starting point is 00:04:59 So let's talk to Joseph. Now, Joseph, you gotta be careful because we all might try to kiss you once we hear it, but tell us about this move that you learned. Okay, well, I wanna make this apparent. I wanna make this known right now. I didn't even develop this. This came from a female friend of mine.
Starting point is 00:05:15 Okay. Okay. Yeah, she said, if you've been making eye contact with a woman, you know, at a bar or an event or maybe a party, all you have to do is welcome to her and you have to be nonchalant. Look at them and say, hey, you're pretty, you wanna make out with the attitude of not really wanting to and don't care.
Starting point is 00:05:35 Oh. Hey, you're pretty, wanna make out. I'm gonna tell you, it is hard to imagine this working. No, okay, if you're attracted to the person, then it works. If it's someone you're not attracted to, it's not gonna work. Yeah, she's right.
Starting point is 00:05:47 How did you feel hearing that word of advice from your friend? It was horrible. I was so uncomfortable. I'm like, yeah, I'm like, this will never work. I'm gonna get slapped. Yeah, that's what I'm thinking. There's logic.
Starting point is 00:05:59 Yeah, so despite your better logic, you tried it? We did, we did. Cause she said nine out of 10 times they'll go for it. So she was like, you know, we're going to go to a holiday party at her job, a work event. Oh my God. At a work event?
Starting point is 00:06:13 You want to sell this down? That's a risky move. It's not his work. Yeah, okay. It's hers, it's hers. But still, he's going to be, oh, you're the girl that brought the guy and kissed everyone.
Starting point is 00:06:22 I wish this happened at our holiday parties. How many people work at her, Oh yeah work at her office or wherever she is? Man, it's like hundreds. Hundreds. Oh, it's on companies. You got a big company. Where they throw actually cool parties. Yeah, I've been to those. Yeah, so it was like an open bar and she said, you know, a lot of cute girls work with her at her company.
Starting point is 00:06:43 So I was like, okay, you know, with the skepticism, you know, a lot of cute girls work with her at her company. So I was like, uh, okay, you know, with the skepticism, you know? And she also told me that, you know, we didn't have to hang around each other, just get out there, mingle, and that's what we did. Oh yeah, because I was worried that you were gonna look like the boyfriend, you know? I mean, because everyone asks,
Starting point is 00:06:59 who's your, like, how are you there? People are like, how are you here? I mean, people may not even ask. With hundreds, when you go to those big ones nobody asks What department do you work in yeah, so you you just went to the party and first cute girl You saw you just walked right up to her and use the line. Oh No, that is not how that happened. I was I was standing around for at least an hour and a half Yes, I was nervous
Starting point is 00:07:24 Think about this meeting someone for the first time who's attractive is a little nerve-wrecking standing around for at least an hour and a half. Just, I was nervous. Oh. Mustering up. Think about this, meeting someone for the first time who's attractive is a little nerve-wracking. Right. The first kiss is always nerve-wracking. Doing them at the same time. And in like a public event, you can't just go to your bedroom.
Starting point is 00:07:34 Yes. Like you're in, well. And you better not have eaten any of the appetizers because you want to have good breath. Yeah, yeah. Sure. So, like at what point did you actually try it? Or did you get there?
Starting point is 00:07:45 When the drinks came in, this is an open bar. The courage juice came in and I spotted this really, really cute girl and I went up to her and I gave the line and she was like, you know what? It's the holidays. Why not? And she grabbed me by the hand hand let me to a quiet corner and we made out oh my god it wasn't even just like a quick kiss or anything no we made out location to kiss that's kind of cool it worked it was crazy at
Starting point is 00:08:22 what point did you learn her name? In the middle of it? My name's Jessica. Or yeah. Did you get the name? She did give me the name. Her name was Katrina. Okay. We talked like 10, 15 minutes after our make out.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Okay, so you made a connection. You get all the hard stuff out of the way. Now it's easy. But then what? The night ends or do you- and I answer you like do you or how many other women yeah how many other women do you use this on at the work party no no it was it was just her and she gave me her number and it was like wow I was like I can't believe that actually worked did you guys get to
Starting point is 00:08:56 connect did you talk after have you texted or anything it was like here and there so some okay yeah yeah just a little bit Maybe she feels awkward for making out with somebody at her own What a woman who leads a man into a corner is not embarrassed Yeah, after an hour and a half of drinking I mean What about what does your friend say about her co-worker like did you tell her what happened kind of I told my friend at? The moon worked and she was like, Oh my God, who was it? But I didn't want to say because, you know, I didn't want to like, have it weird for her, like at her company.
Starting point is 00:09:35 What she brought you and told you to do it. I mean, honestly, there's so many people that work there. She may not even know her. She could be a plus one of somebody. Yeah. Oh, that's a good point. There's a lot of, people that work there she may not even know her she could be a plus one of somebody so your friend doesn't know who it is and you've been trying to reach Katrina for how long actually have a date and see if there's like a connection there yeah a sober date or starting sober me that doesn't sound very fun yeah well we'll try and arrange something for you with you and Katrina when we come back get you your second date update
Starting point is 00:10:09 All right after this hold on Second date update you're in the middle of a second date update update And we're gonna find out how the couple is doing right after you here part two Today we learned about a hot dating hack Today, we learned about a hot dating hack. Yeah, well, kind of. Yeah, sort of. Where apparently if you go up to any woman with a nonchalant attitude and casually say, hey, you're cute.
Starting point is 00:10:32 You want to make out a lot of times if they're single, they'll say yes to that. Wow. And maybe even if they're not single, if you deliver it the right way. Apparently, Jeff isn't nonchalant enough because nobody in this room is making out with him yet. You keep saying it over and over again. I did not do it right. But the thing is we never asked what do you do if the response back is no. Or what? Yeah or just something besides yes.
Starting point is 00:10:58 Who are you? You are embarrassed and you shy away. But that's not a good look. You hope that you never see them again. Let's ask our listener Joseph if any of our listeners want to try this move for themselves What are you supposed to say to a rejection? Well if they say no you say yeah problem Just find me when you're ready. Oh no problem. Just find me when you're Cuz then you really don't care you're like okay That's so, that's awesome. I almost want them to say no.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Cause then you really don't care. You're like, okay, no worries. You'll probably change your mind. I would've said me neither. I don't want to either. Or I wasn't asking you. Yeah. By the way, can we not call him out on this as a move?
Starting point is 00:11:36 That he, like, oh that it was even a bet? Like when she picks up, don't be like, the trick worked on ya. You know? The thing is, is that he really likes her. That's why we're calling. Brooke, why are you looking looking at me for that Alexis is the one that usually ruins these Constant chatty Kathy over there dropping all the show you are so self-aware Yeah, all right Alexis pipe down we're gonna call this girl Don't ruin this for us here we go
Starting point is 00:12:15 Hello, hey is this Katrina yes, it's Katrina This is a morning show we're called Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning and we are very very eager to talk to you. You want to do a second date or something? No. Wow. Okay how did you reach me this is kind of odd. It's hard to answer that because we got an email from one of our listeners that met you recently at a holiday party named Joseph. Oh, Joseph, okay. Yep, I remember him. Good. How would you describe him?
Starting point is 00:12:54 Flat out, I guess I'd describe him as a liar. A liar? What do you mean? Like he lies down a lot? You like to nap, oh, I'm a liar! He just completely lied to me. I met him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:13:12 You had such a brief interaction with this guy. At least according to him, what we've heard. Oh, so he told you all about it? About the 15 minutes. So I don't know if this is what Joseph told you, but we ended up making out, not usually the order in which I do things,
Starting point is 00:13:28 but we made out and then we had a talk. Oh. Yeah. You don't normally do it that way? That's how we do it, so. Yeah. Yeah. But.
Starting point is 00:13:37 No, I do not. Oh, okay. This is definitely different for me. But then he tells me he works at my company. So I'm like, what are you doing here? I don't recognize you so I looked him up and there is no record of this guy Working my company. I don't know why he said that Sometimes my friends out meet people at the bar and you could just make stuff up and then you don't think you're gonna end
Starting point is 00:13:58 Up liking them. Yeah, but you've already made up like oh, yeah, I work in whatever I mean that makes sense Alexis like or it's just easier, right? Yeah, easier to say yeah, I work here, too Maybe he owns stock in the company and in a way that's like financially responsible for the company Yeah, what was that CBS show undercover boss or something? And it's like oh no actually I own the whole thing Maybe maybe some maybe some sort of like misunderstanding situation like that okay? I highly doubt that was the case okay, so you're just mad because he lied to you about working
Starting point is 00:14:34 Yeah, there was no reason for him to so I don't know how to respond to this guy because I don't know who yet In the party is he some kind of pervert? Oh, pervert. Okay. Why would you go to pervert? I mean, why don't you just text him? You don't have to text him or do anything like that because actually Joseph is on the other line right now waiting to talk to you. Seriously? Perverts do.
Starting point is 00:15:03 In a non-pervy way. He's quietly listening in. The whole time he's been listening? Oh, God. No, it's because he likes you. Joseph, tell her. Katrina, I am so sorry. Let me just start out with that.
Starting point is 00:15:19 I want to apologize. Good start. I forgot that I did tell you those things and I want to tell you where that's coming from. I'm not a pervert. I'm not a did tell you those things and I want to tell you where that's coming from. I'm not a pervert. I'm not a stalker or any people, nothing like that. Do you work there? I don't work there.
Starting point is 00:15:32 Okay. No. No, he just said that. All right. I'm going to tell you something. I'm going to be transparent. This came from a friend of mine who does work there and she gave me a move. If I want to say it like that as far as if I do
Starting point is 00:15:45 this particular thing if I say hey I think you're pretty do you want to make out I can make out with any woman at that party it is a female friend that told him to do this I think that's very important thanks Brooke yeah you just went there specifically to test out your move it when it was not his idea his friend is the one who was encouraging him because Joseph did not think I was saying no to a free holiday party with the open bar My friend worked at a big company like If you should be mad at anybody be mad at Joseph's friend for pressuring him to kiss you
Starting point is 00:16:23 Okay, I've crashed parties before that makes sense even we was invited. Yeah, you didn't crash it And the only lie was I worked there. That's it right you didn't lie about anything else. Did you Joseph? I should ask that no no no that was it that was it cuz Katrina You could have told me the truth no not really I Came here to try out this line Know about where you work not that part. Yes. Oh works. I guess it works. I gotta admit it works Okay, so I'm kind of curious would that line work if a girl tried it on a guy Work if a girl tried it on a guy
Starting point is 00:17:11 To actually it's gonna be finding a guy who you actually want to make out with Why are you asking that to be honest? My boss is recently single? Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, wait, So I didn't think it's a good idea Jeffrey hasn't gotten a raise in over five years Keep getting demoted listen. I don't even know the hell you guys are so don't tell me what to do You got the idea from us And maybe I should Because the whole reason that we're doing this call is because after you guys kissed He felt like you had a really great connection and wanted to take it a little bit farther and go out on a real date And we would pay for that date if you're willing to see him again. Yeah, I Mean, maybe just could be my wingman
Starting point is 00:18:21 Come on I'm pouring out my heart here. I like you. I want to get to know you. You guys had a connection. Give it a chance with Joseph. And once that burns out, then you can go after your boss. There you go. You know, I'm willing to go on a friendly date as friends. As friends? As friends. Do we cover friendly dates? We can exchange dating tricks and tips. Dude, you went from kissing this woman in the first five seconds
Starting point is 00:18:45 to now you're her friend? Absolute friend zone. Wingman. I have never been not this excited about friendship in my life. Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. OK, that was the end of the original second date that they were on.
Starting point is 00:18:57 Oh, man. Now we do have to play just a quick commercial, OK? Because we do have to pay for this show somehow. And we're going to be back right after this with both of them on the phone to see what's happened since. Stay here. Kelly Harnett spent over a decade in prison for a murder she says she didn't commit. I'm 100% innocent. While behind bars, she learned the law from scratch. Because oh God, Harnett, jailhouse lawyer. And as she fought for herself, she also became a lifeline for the women locked up alongside her.
Starting point is 00:19:30 You're supposed to have faith in God, but I had nothing but faith in her. So many of these women had lived the same stories. I said, were you a victim of domestic violence? And she was like, yeah. But maybe Kelly could change the ending. I said, how many people have gotten other incarcerated individuals out of here? I'm going to be the first one to do that.
Starting point is 00:19:55 This is the story of Kelly Harnett, a woman who spent 12 years fighting not just for her own freedom, but her girlfriends too. I think I have a mission from God to save souls by getting people out of prison. not just for her own freedom, but her girlfriends too. I think I have a mission from God to save souls by getting people out of prison. The Girlfriends, Jailhouse Lawyer. Listen on the iHeartRadio app, Apple Podcasts,
Starting point is 00:20:13 or wherever you get your podcasts. So what happened at Chappaquiddick? Well, it really depends on who you talk to. There are many versions of what happened in 1969 when a young Ted Kennedy drove a car into a pond. And left a woman behind to drown. There's a famous headline, I think, in the New York Daily News. It's, Teddy escapes, blonde drowns.
Starting point is 00:20:38 And in a strange way, right, that sort of tells you. The story really became about Ted's political future, Ted's political hopes. Will Ted become president? Chappaquiddick is a story of a tragic death and how the Kennedy machine took control. And he's not the only Kennedy to survive a scandal. The Kennedys have lived through disgrace, affairs, violence, you name it. So is there a curse? Every week we go behind the headlines and beyond the drama of America's royal family. Listen to United States of Kennedy on the iHeart radio app,
Starting point is 00:21:08 Apple podcast or wherever you get your podcasts. Well that call was from last Christmas and now we've got Joseph and Katrina back on the phone to give us an update. I can't believe they're both here. Yeah. Katrina, what's happened in the last, like, six to seven months since we last spoke? Well, we've actually moved in together. Wait, wait, wait. Wait, what? Wait, who? You and your, yeah.
Starting point is 00:21:36 You and Joseph or you and your boss? Me and Joseph. No, me and Joseph. You guys are together like that? Well, not like together, like together with just his friends Oh, that's why you're laughing You're laughing joseph because we assumed you guys had a romantic thing. Okay How did that happen?
Starting point is 00:21:58 Um, well actually on the date we found out that both our leases happened to be ending at the same time My roommate was moving out and so I was like dude why don't you just come live with me like we can take some money we've already got this great rapport. Joseph are you cool with this? Like yeah that must have been hard for you because the last time that we spoke you seemed interested romantically in her and Katrina was the one saying you should be friends. Well I'm not gonna lie at first it wasn easy, like especially when she was bringing guys over. Oh, I bet that was tough, man.
Starting point is 00:22:29 And just as a male, we're kinda territorial, so I couldn't help but to feel just a little bit jealous. Just a little bit jealous. Oh, no. Oh, stop. Oh, stop, she says. Oh, no. Wait, so how did you get over it? How did you get over feelings for her? Oh, well, it was her, man.
Starting point is 00:22:44 Like, her actually being the best roommate I've for her? Oh, it was her man. Like her actually being the best roommate I've ever had. Like the situation is amazing. Everything is always on point on time. She's awesome. You could say two weeks of crying Joseph. It's okay. You could say you cried for a long time. It's alright. It sounds like you two are in a good place and it's a really rare thing on this show to I'm still crying. But you will never know. Oh, buddy. It sounds like you two are in a good place, and it's a really rare thing on this show to hear, I got a friend for life out of a second date update.
Starting point is 00:23:11 Why do I want another update in six months? Yeah. I did, I did. Ooh. That's really cool. But yeah, definitely keep us posted on what's going on in your lives. That's your second date update update.
Starting point is 00:23:23 It's Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning. The Girlfriends is back with a new season. And this time I'm telling you the story of Kelly Harnett.
