My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Wait a minute, Sam. Maybe her boyfriend's just looking for extra credit.
Well, Dakota, luckily, it's back to school week on the OK Storytime podcast, so we'll find out soon.
This person writes, my boyfriend's been hanging out with his young professor a lot.
He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Now he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Hold up. Isn't that against school policy?
That seems inappropriate.

Psychobabble.
Yes, yes.

I'm Dr. Scott Barry Kaufman, host of the Psychology Podcast.
Here's a clip from an upcoming conversation about how to be a better you.
When you think about emotion regulation,
you're not going to choose an adaptive strategy which is more effortful to use unless
you think there's a good outcome.
Avoidance is easier.
Ignoring is easier.
denials easier, complex problem solving, takes effort.

I just normally do straight stand-up, but this is a bit different.
What do you get when a true crime producer walks into a comedy club?
Answer, a new podcast called Wisecrack, where a comedian finds himself at the center of a chilling true crime story.
Does anyone know what show they've come to see? It's a story. It's about the
scariest night of my life.
This is Wisecrack, available now.
Listen to Wisecrack on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
I don't want to say we're shocked when people stay together after they do a second date
update with us, but it is always a little surprising.
That's the point.
Hey, it's Brick and Jeffrey, and this is your second date podcast.
Today we have an update, update.
That means we will play you the original, so everybody's on the same page.
And then we're going to have the couple back on the phone to hear,
what's happened since they were on the show.
Yeah.
You've got to stay through it all to hear it.
And I'm sure there'll be at least one complaint in this that says,
this is a rerun.
Yeah.
Just wait until the end.
Yeah, and we'll talk to the ad.
You're going to hear a little ad right before.
Yes, that too.
We're preparing you for everything.
You know what's ahead.
It's brand new.
What are some comments?
Dan said, I hate my buddy for introducing me to the show.
And I hate myself for continuing to listen to it.
Hey, Dan.
Oh, self-loathing.
We love that here.
We do.
Thank you. Welcome to the show, Dan, whether you like it or not.
You're stuck with us.
Your update, update starts right now.
Sometimes in the dating world, hearts can be broken.
Other times you're breaking literal bones and ligaments.
I hope not.
And that is a pretty close description of what happened when two of our listeners decided to go on a hike for their first meet up.
Okay.
It was a disaster date that turned into one of our most.
memorable calls of the year
and despite the events that unfolded
that fateful day, the couples
reached out saying they need to come
back on the show for a special
second date update update
you're going to hear it coming up
right after this
Second date update
she's back
return callers at the second date
update that's fun
Laura you may remember
her she was the avid gym goer
who roasted her date
when she found out he tried to use a coupon at Nobu.
Oh, yeah.
Because he claimed he didn't know that sushi could be that expensive.
Oh, yeah, I came.
Wow.
You came back, Laura.
Yeah.
The whole thing about Laura is she's got high-end taste.
And I'm guessing that she is totally worth it.
Uh-huh.
But, you know, those types of ladies can be a little bit hard to please.
And now there's another guy who's ghosting her, probably because he's so intimidated by you, Laura.
That's what I would guess.
but welcome back to our show.
It's nice to have you on.
Thank you.
So apparently this is a new guy that you want us to call today, right?
What's his name?
His name's Troy.
Troy?
Troy.
Is that with a big sigh?
What's going on with Troy?
Okay, so I met this guy, Troy.
I was kind of like on the download for a little while and I was like, all right, I'm going to try this again.
Okay, so you took some time off of dating after having to recover from your experience with us.
From the Nobu coupon guy, yeah.
Okay.
Good for you for deciding to get back out there.
You meet Troy online on an app?
Yeah.
And I like his profile because it shows him being, like, super active.
He's, like, into swimming and other activities, hiking and things like that, and that's really important for me.
And he just says, like, a big fan of $100 bills in his hand, just, like, walked to himself with it.
No, it was just, like, the activity stuff and, you know, his body and.
His butt.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah, sure.
Wait, that was the only thing that Alexis just perked up to.
Yeah, right.
I should have thought about the swimming photo, obviously, there's the body.
Okay.
Oh, yeah.
Hot body active Troy.
All right.
So did you initiate conversation with him?
It was like a mutual thing.
We just kind of had good conversation and talked about working out.
So I found this thing online, and it was the most incredible view and the perfect selfie spot.
Okay.
Okay.
So you're picking your hiking based on the quality of picture you're going to get from it.
Of course.
Because what girl doesn't want?
want to look like a professional hiker standing on a rock.
Yeah.
Right.
Yeah.
Okay.
But hiking's a fun activity.
He's an active guy.
Is that what you proposed?
No, no, no, no.
It's about the Instagram photo.
Oh.
Not about the hike.
Duh.
So he was super down and we had a really nice hike and the pictures came out all amazing.
Okay.
So that's cute.
You got cute pictures.
Did you take pictures together?
Yeah, we did some selfies and then we took picks of each other and we got some really good shots.
Cool.
That sounds good.
It sounds like you're both into it.
So how did it end, then?
Okay, so this is the fun part.
On the way down, Troy slips, falls down, and sprees his ankle.
Oh, no.
Probably saw like a cool chipmunk, and he, like, didn't know where to step.
He wouldn't go bet it.
I'm sure that's it.
Yeah, it happens a lot.
That's terrible.
So basically, he can't walk down the mountain.
So I didn't know what to do.
I kind of had a little meltdown, and I was like, all right, let me see if my phone actually has service,
then I can call somebody to get help.
Oh, okay.
Okay.
Were we able to reach someone?
You're going to call in park rangers or what?
I tried reaching out to a lot of people, like friends, emergency services.
I mean, basically anyone who could, like, help get him down the mountain.
Wow.
Did someone come help?
Eventually, medics showed up and came and helped.
Whoa.
Oh, wow.
But the good news is on that avenue that it wasn't like the perfect end to a perfect date,
but at least we got to, like, sit and chat, and we had a ton of really intimate talk time.
Well, he's wincing and pace.
Yeah.
No, we always say this.
but this is another cute story where if things work out for you,
it's kind of like, yeah, you sprained his ankle our first date.
Right.
And why did you take more pictures of each other while he was sitting down on the ground?
No.
What else is going to do?
Good lighting of the ankle.
I mean, it's kind of wild that he hasn't, I'm assuming he hasn't called you at all.
Yeah, that's why I called because, like, he was talking a ton,
and now he's not talking at all, and I don't understand.
And, like, if it's because he got hurt, that's really kind of dumb.
He's not embarrassed because, like, getting hurt is an accident.
I don't know.
He could be.
Like if he's a big buff dude, do you think he's like, oh, no, I slip on a rock?
I mean, this is a little bit unlike our typical dates that we talk about on the show
where it's like really quick.
You'd like coffee, chat, and then you're gone.
This is the two of them sitting on a mountain together for an hour with nothing to do but talk.
Yeah, that's true.
And take pictures of each other.
Was there anything in the conversation that happened there that might be a little bit of a red flag for him?
I don't think so.
I mean, we were talking about all different topics, like a lot of gym talk, you know,
just experience in the gym.
and what kind of different activities we like
and a little bit about family stuff
and, I mean, we weren't talking about, like,
getting married and having kids, if that's what you mean.
Oh, why not?
So you sprayed your ankle.
How many kids do you want to have?
Well, okay, this is going to be an interesting one.
We're going to call Troy for you,
and first, I mean, see if he answers the phone.
Well, just see if he needs his little boo-boos kissed.
Yeah.
Maybe that's where she comes in.
Uh-oh, Brooke's going to roast him, watch.
He needs just a screen.
Thank you.
Maybe. Hopefully, this phone is within reaching distance, and we're going to find out, we'll reach out right after this.
Second date update. You're in the middle of a second date update update, and we're going to find out how the couple is doing right after you hear, part two.
If you're just joining us, we're in the middle of a tense heart pumping, ankle throbbing second date update with Laura.
Heart pumping, because she went on a romantic mountain hike with a guy named Troy, ankle throbbing because Troy fell.
and sprained his ankle on the walk down the hill.
Oh, poor Troy.
It was so bad, he couldn't make it down on his own,
so Laura had to call out for help until medics could arrive,
stayed with him the whole time, kept him calm,
gave him mouth to mouth.
And after all of that, after saving his life and snatching him from the jaws of death,
Troy has the gall to ghost her?
Wow.
Maybe she had bad breath during that mouth.
to mouth session. I don't care. I'm just going to say
Troy is a giant bee.
Oh, wow. What's a B fan? Big baby.
Okay? And I am dying
to hear what he has to say.
Don't you die too, Jeff. What, if any,
cute woodland animals he saw
and has to report on the trail path.
Laura, are you with me?
I don't think he's like a big baby. He got hurt.
Come on. Oh, gosh, so forgiving.
Has anyone thought maybe he's upset that
you talked all this big talk about the gym,
but then we're too weak to piggyback
him all the way back to the car.
Come on. He's not going to expect that.
Or drag him down.
I don't know. I would have done it.
My dad says I'm good German work in stock.
I'm built to carry heavy things.
Why do you have to work that into every single second date update that we do?
You're like Brooke wants to live a man.
I do.
I will get a piggyback after this.
We're not even going to bring that up to Troy if he answers the phone because we don't want to get too excited about it.
But let's see if he picks up.
We're going to dial his number right now.
Here we go.
Thanks, you guys.
Hello.
Hey, is this Troy?
It is.
Oh, Troy.
Oh, Jeff, you'd be nice.
Hi, Troy.
Uh, hello.
Sorry, it's confusing.
I'm just kidding, man.
We're doing something on our show.
We hope you'll stick around and be a part of it.
It's called second date update.
Okay.
Have you heard of that before?
No.
No, I haven't.
Okay.
Okay.
It's where we help out our listeners who have gone out on a date with somebody and a second meetup hasn't happened yet.
We try and help facilitate it or figure out why the other person doesn't want to.
Okay.
And that seems to be the situation, at least according to one of our listeners named Laura, you met the other day.
She reached out to you?
Yes.
Yeah.
She's like worried, too.
It sounds like you had a crazy hike where you got injured.
We heard all about it.
Yeah, she's been texting me a whole bunch.
I don't know if I'm feeling it, to be honest with you.
That's kind of why I didn't reach back out to her.
She can sense that.
Yeah.
That's what she wants to know why.
That's the confusing part to her because she essentially saved you from the brink of death.
She did not say that.
Jeff exaggerated.
I mean, I'm not saying that the thought crossed your mind to leave you on that mountain to fend for yourself,
But she did do a lot to help.
She did.
After you sprained your ankle.
I think you guys have the story wrong if that's what you guys really think happened.
Okay.
What are we wrong?
I mean, what did exactly.
Well, sorry.
You know, I'm just kidding.
Yeah.
I'm just frustrated because we're friends of Laura's and we really just want to help her out.
So if you could maybe explain your side of it.
Well, I don't know what she told you exactly, but my ankle was banged up.
I mean, you guys are laughing about it.
but it was pretty bad.
Like, it was swollen immediately.
I couldn't walk on it.
She said that.
She felt really bad for you.
I know we're laughing,
but that's just because that's what we do.
Obviously,
you couldn't walk.
You couldn't even hobble, bro.
So it was really bad.
I mean, that's why she called.
Everybody she knew got emergency services up there.
Yeah, kind of.
She didn't have service or whatever,
and neither did I.
So she said she's going to walk down the trail a little bit
until she gets service.
She disappeared for at least a half an hour.
She came back.
She was all excited.
And I was like,
Okay, good. Did you find somebody on the trail? She said, no, no, no, I called an Uber.
An Uber. You don't need a car. You need someone to carry you down.
So it's a joke.
100%. That's what I said to her. And she basically was like, oh, I didn't think about that.
I was like, yeah, I can't drive up the mountain to just come pick me up in the car.
That's not how this works.
Well, come on. Give her the benefit.
You know, some people don't think well in emergency situations.
Yeah, we were talking about it. And basically, I was trying to advise her.
Look, call EMTs. Call emergency.
service. So she did do that, which is nice. And while we were sitting there waiting,
she said that she figured out how to make, like, a homemade tourniquet for my leg. Okay.
She wanted to get some sticks and branches and wrap up my leg or something like that.
You know, it was like being stuck out there with Nurse Ratchet in the mountain.
Nurse Ratchet. What, like she didn't do a good job?
Yeah, I didn't need a tourniquet. I had a sprain ankle, all right? I wasn't losing any blood or
anything like that. Sure, but it couldn't hurt.
To have a tourniquet?
It actually could hurt a lot.
It cuts off your circulation.
It was preventative.
A preventative turnicant just in case something got worse.
I mean, at the end of the day, she's trying.
She's not a medical expert.
She's doing her best.
You can't even give her that.
Yeah, no, her best was just shockingly bad.
That's all, maybe.
Okay.
Well, I feel like maybe she was panicked, a little freaked out in the moment.
Just like you were doing whatever she could think of to try and help you out.
And you don't have to take that from me.
You can listen to Laura right now because she's on the other line waiting to talk to you.
Wait, are you serious?
She's been listening the whole time?
Yeah, that's how the segment works, man.
Sorry.
Hey, Troy, yeah.
It's me, Nurse Ratchet.
How you doing?
How are you feeling?
Wow, she's really a nurse.
Probably want to say sorry now, huh?
She should not apologize.
No, him, him for calling a nurse Ratchet.
Come on, Laura, you know it was being, you were in charge of the water.
I mean, what was going on with the water?
What was she doing with the water?
I'm sorry.
I was in charge of bringing water on the hike, and I got a smoothies instead.
What?
Well, that's nice.
I drank my smoothie, and then it was, like, so yummy that I wound up drinking Troy smoothie, too,
because I figured there was an easy hike, and we'd be down the mountain pretty quickly,
and then I could just get water when we got to the bottom.
No big deal.
Nurse Ratchet.
Well, she needed the extra nutrients to go search for help.
He was just sitting there on the ground.
I'm not like the best outdoorsman or outdoors woman or whatever you call it
I'm not a lumberjack I'm not a medic like I did what came to mind in the spur of the moment
and also like some ubers do have four-wheel drive so like that part's not on me
this again the four-wheel drive thing again come on no they don't it's a good point Troy
does that mean you already brought up that point while you guys are on the mountain
we talked about it for like 10 minutes already when you're on the mouth it's going to be a hummer
They can get all over, like every type of terrain.
Bro, this is at least endearing.
If anything, she's just trying, it's not working, we get it.
She's cute, she's cute, she's got good energy.
Come on, Troy.
Thank you.
Laura, I will say, if you do go outdoors with any of your friends or family, God help them.
She's not the one with a hurt ankle.
Yeah, that's right.
That's a really sweet thing to say.
He basically blessed her and her entire family whenever they go on events.
adventures together. And you apologize. Troy, I'm feeling some sort of shift in you. Like, you're wanting to say yes to
another date with Laura, especially when we offer to pay for it. I mean, we can, like, go to the
city and, like, rent a scooter. I'm pretty sure both of us can fit on it. Oh.
Oh, yeah. Maybe make a, like, reservation at the ER ahead of time before the date happens.
Is that how the ER works now? Just in case, you know, get your reservation in early.
Look, I don't want to be Mr. Pessimistic. So if we can keep it inside, I did have a good time with you
in the moment where I wasn't dying.
So, yeah, let's give it another shot.
That sounds fun.
Yay! That's kind of cute.
Troy, you're going on a date with Nurse Ratchet.
Good for you.
I hope not.
Oh, my God, I hope.
And I'll bring my tourniquet.
Oh.
He's not bleeding.
I think it's kind of a freaky thing that she's in, too.
You guys have fun, okay?
Brooke and Jeffrey in the morning.
December 29th.
The holiday rush, parents hauling luggage, kids gripping their new Christmas toys.
Then, at 6.33 p.m., everything changed.
There's been a bombing at the TWA terminal.
Apparently the explosion actually impelled metal, glass.
The injured were being loaded into ambulances, just a chaotic, chaotic scene.
In its wake, a new kind of enemy emerged, and it was here to stay.
Terrorism.
Law and Order Criminal Justice System is back.
In season two, we're turning our focus to a threat that hides in plain sight.
That's harder to predict and even harder to stop.
Listen to the new season of Law and Order Criminal Justice System
on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcasts.
My boyfriend's professor is way too friendly, and now I'm seriously suspicious.
Oh, wait a minute, Sam.

He doesn't think it's a problem, but I don't trust her.
Now, he's insisting we get to know each other, but I just want her gone.
Now, hold up.
Isn't that against school policy?
That sounds totally inappropriate.
Well, according to this person, this is her boyfriend's former professor.
and they're the same age.
And it's even more likely that they're cheating.
He insists there's nothing between them.
I mean, do you believe him?
Well, he's certainly trying to get this person to believe him
because he now wants them both to meet.
So, do we find out if this person's boyfriend really cheated with his professor or not?
To hear the explosive finale, listen to the OK Storytime podcast on the IHeart Radio app, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your podcast.
Well, that second date update happened months ago.
Yes, it did.
And now Troy and Laura are back to give us an update on their situation.
Oh, I can't wait to you.
First, hey, fancy meeting you two here.
Welcome back to the show.
Hi.
Thank you.
So good to be back.
Hey, what's up, guys?
No one's broken, right?
Everybody's bodies are working the way they should.
That's a normal question.
Yeah, everything's functional.
We're all good.
Okay.
Good.
That's good to hear.
So what's new in your relationship?
What's happened since we last spoke to you?
So as you remember, we had a little trouble on the mountain last time.
But we decided for the next couple of dates that we would stay indoors.
And we did.
Good.
So I like that.
He gave up on his interests of the outdoors and just fully went inside for you.
Yeah, there's indoor climbing.
Now he lives in a bubble.
That's so sweet.
I eventually enticed him to go back outside.
Oh, you did.
That's what I want to know.
How did that go?
Well, I did, in fact, find another fantastic selfie spot.
Oh, okay.
I was worried.
That's what I've been stressed about from us.
So I'm hoping, I mean, we're all hoping that nothing bad happened on that date that required
medical attention, right?
No, everything went good.
Good news, we definitely didn't need to call the MPs.
Unfortunately, we did have to call
the cops by the end of the evening.
Wait, what? Why?
Well, we got back from the hike, and
somebody broke into our car.
I hate that. That's the
words. It happens all the time.
Does it? Yeah, the trailheads. You can't leave anything
in your car. Or Brooke will open your car
and take it. I'm a
bear. I'm a bear!
Was anything taken from your car?
Well, no.
Luckily, nothing was stolen.
I mean, I had my little purse with me and my selfie stick, so everything was good there.
Take all the values.
Okay.
So you two sound like you're in a pretty good place.
Yeah, everything is going pretty good.
But we signed up for a EMT-CPR class together.
Oh, that's smart.
I thought for sure she was going to enroll you in how to take a good selfie class.
that's probably next right yeah that's definitely next okay well awesome to hear that you two are
still together and having a good time and planning for the future dates not to get in too much
trouble planning for the future dates and future accidents yeah so you are going to be prepared either
way definitely keep us updated stay in touch and uh appreciate you guys
reaching out.
Thank you.
We'll do.
Thank you, guys.
Yeah.
