Hello everyone. Welcome to the first episode of Season 1 of the Calling Home podcast. I am Whitney Goodman. I'm a licensed marriage and family therapist. You may know me from the Instagram account at Sit with Witt, and I help adults have better family relationships. So why this podcast and why now? Whenever I think about this, I'm like, gosh, I just have
So much to say. I cannot stop talking. And so I needed another place to talk. And I think my
friends and family would probably agree with that. But actually, to get serious, I realized that
you guys are going through a lot in your adult family relationships. This is a topic that I
hear about, no matter who I am talking to, I am hearing about something that's going on in their
family, whether that's with their parents, their siblings, their grandparents, people getting
older, people getting sick, moving, work, dividing time, labor, having grandkids.
Like, there's all of these dynamics and issues that I think people are having so much trouble
navigating. And the biggest thing I've noticed is that most people, when they bring this
stuff up to me, when they're talking about it, they're shocked to hear that they're not the only one.
And I'm in this unique position as a therapist where I hear these stories.
all the time from so many people, you know, especially in my therapy office. And so I know that you
all are not the only one. I know that this is going on in pretty much every household around the
world. And I kept coming up against this feeling like I just couldn't talk about things in the way
that I wanted to on social media. And I couldn't go as deep with them. I also really wanted to
have conversations with other people out there. So the Calling Home podcast was born.
Let me tell you a little bit more about how this podcast is going to work.
This season one is going to be a combination of interviews and Q&A episodes where I talk a little
bit about what I'm noticing in my sessions, what I'm seeing online, and I also take questions
from the audience, from you all. So you can call this voicemail at 866-225-5-4-66, and you will hear my voice
when you call. It will prompt you to leave a message, and you can leave me messages with
questions, situations, problems that you're having, and I will use those as episodes. So I'm not
going to give you direct advice, like, here's what I think you should do, but I'm going to try to
help you view situations in the way that a therapist sees them. So I'm going to ask you questions.
I'm going to talk about what different perspectives there might be in that situation. I'm going to
give you some prompts of things to think about. And I'm going to help you feel less alone.
And now back to those interviews. I'm doing a series of interviews with both experts, authors,
people in the field and also just regular real people that I've seen on TikTok that I love what
they're doing in the space of family relationships. And I'm like, I really want to talk to this
person. So that's what's so cool about this podcast is that I'm going to try to give you guys a
little bit of everything. We're going to talk about a lot of things that are happening right now
in the world and how they're impacting our adult family relationships. I am so excited to dive
into this season with you. And I cannot wait for you to hear what's next.
