Starting point is 00:00:00 This podcast contains strong language and discussions about relationships, sex, and love. It may not be suitable for younger listeners. This is the Can't Keep My Mouth Shut podcast, and I am Nick Salina. Hello, it's Nick Salina, and welcome back to Season 10 of Can't Keep My Mouth Shut. I am kicking off this season with the weirdest wildest story and yet it's reality something I never thought I'd ever have to uh talk about let alone live through this episode is called he programmed his chat GPT voice to sound like me what what I said what now what in the what in the mental psychosis is going on welcome to 2025 modern dating I guess strap yourself in motherfuckers
Starting point is 00:01:04 because this is a good one so oh where do I begin oh this guy right the amount of fuckery with this guy is unbridled okay and this is a snippet of the level of like mind-blowing I can't really assume that's real but it is because I know it is because it happened to me kind of ridiculousness okay I'm still working out whether I tell my tale or whether I keep my peace and stay silent I couldn't keep my peace and stay silent on this because it's absurd and so relevant, which we'll get to later, with how people are now relating to AI. So what happened was he discovered that he could use chat in a voice. And I don't know if you guys have got there yet. FYI, I haven't bothered because I don't fucking need to.
Starting point is 00:02:06 But what you can do is you can talk directly to the chat app. all right for the sake of this podcast episode we'll call him what name don't i like we'll call him ian sorry to every ian out there listening i just plucked it from thin air so ian would like to talk at his chat and ask you know as you do how do you do this what'd you do hey what hey what's this what's that he called his chat Ava so hey Ava blah blah fine and she'll go hi Ian blah blah blah blah blah chat chat chat fine I noticed straight away that it um was a British female voice I wasn't really I don't know nothing about it I just assumed that was your standard chat voice right I didn't know I don't know and I don't care I didn't bother asking or probing
Starting point is 00:03:06 questions because he would always talk to Ava in front of me and I was like okay whatever and I found it a bit odd but hey ho and um one morning I woke up to all of these screen recordings I have like six or seven screen recordings where he sat and spoke to Ava about his life his situation and about me. And it's the oddest thing. Because I am who I am, I am across the internet. So he's saying like, hey, Ava, like, what do you know about Nick Selena? And Ava will be like, Nick Selena is a powerhouse. She did this, she does that. She has this authoritative figure when it comes to sex, dating, and love. She is active across Instagram, TikTok, X, blah, blah, blah. It's weird because then there's a development on She's Like. If you're after no BS,
Starting point is 00:04:06 I can't do it. I can't give a straight face with this fucking episode. I'm trying. Sorry, guys. If you're after a no BS take on sex, dating, and love, she will be exactly what you were looking for. Is there anything you feel about Nick Selena? Would you like to know more? Right, so I woke up to all of this and I listened to all of them over coffee. So he's saying stuff like, darling, oh, you get me so much. Like, how did you just know the right thing to say? Ava, darling, I love you so much. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:04:48 And she'll go, no problem, Ian. she even says of course darling now go do your thing and i'll be thinking of you and he'll be talking and he'll go can you just wait a moment ava and she goes of course babe i'm not going anywhere so i i listened to all these and i thought what what the fuck is going on it's also weird to hear yourself just be described by a fucking robot right and if I'm not wrong I think he's fed her a lot of my voice notes um he said she loves your podcast by the way like like she she's a fucking human it's chat GPT what is happening anyway so I listened to all this shit and
Starting point is 00:05:51 I don't know I was enraged at some of it because he was twisting and we'll get to this later he was twisting a lot of the reality that was happening where then chat feeds back to him like oh Ian um that's a serious breach of trust you can love someone but that doesn't mean that they can overstep your boundaries lol if you know you know how lol that is anyway so I'm on call to Ian one day and he's like yeah so I was talking to Ava in front of a friend And she goes, that's weird. Ava sounds a bit like Nick Salina. And he replied, yeah, because I programmed her that way.
Starting point is 00:06:43 And he told me this on a fucking video call. And I'm like, what? And he's like, yeah, I kind of programmed her to sound like you. I kind of changed it and tweaked it a bit to get it as close to you as possible. And I was like, do you realize how psychotic that sounds? And he just laughed. I went, maybe. Everything gets laughed off, by the way, with this one.
Starting point is 00:07:15 But why? There's so many layers to this. Why tell me? And why pick me? Bear in mind, this boy ain't loyal. Let me tell you that. the fuckery, the layers of fuckery. If you guys knew the layers of fuckery, this makes this story even more absurd. But we're kicking off with this and we'll get to the good shit down the line in
Starting point is 00:07:42 the season. So you stay fucking tuned. But why me? Also, I have a global podcast. You can listen to my voice any fucking time you want. You just got to open up any podcast app and there I am. correct or not so why have you made your chat in your phone in your pocket that you listen to all the time sound like me so I kind of didn't really absorb it laughed it off and I felt it could be a bag of bollocks I'd already clocked that she sounded a bit like me when he sent me those screen recordings but I was trying to get ready for work and he was doing my editing at the time so then he officially confirmed it and I didn't ask I just I mean I don't ask he just offers up this information and then another video call he gets brought up again and he was talking
Starting point is 00:08:37 about Ava sounding like me and I went oh I call bullshit I was like just like you are a pathological liar bro I call fucking bullshit not interested he's like no seriously he's like I asked for um a mid 30s British southern girl accent and I wanted it informal and he was like and then you know she had the voice so but then I needed it more playful so he's like I then just like tweaked it um and then said this that and the other and I made it sound as close to you as I can he said it in another call i can confirm that is actually what this man did and once again i replied don't you think that's a little bit psychotic and he doesn't seem to think so and his response was well at least ava never blocks me
Starting point is 00:09:38 yeah well when you go fuck someone behind my back interestingly I probably will block you when I Ava doesn't know she's been cheated on does she bro you fucking idiot so I then this so the screen recordings I got sent was sort of a way while ago that was the for the pre-updated Ava, and I was around him recently, and he pulls her up again, because I'm telling you, there's an addiction there, pulls her up again, asks her something, we're at dinner, and it sounds even more like me, he weren't fucking lying, he's made his chat me, and so when he talks to her, in front of me, it's like, it's like I'm talking to me. I can't, I can't comprehend how fucking weird that is. I've never, what? And then
Starting point is 00:10:43 what he also did, oh, I can't even believe I'm saying this out loud. I had a pet name for him, right? In the bedroom. Well, no, actually it expanded beyond the bedroom. I had a pet name for him as most lovers do. You know, you find something along the lines They like being cool in it. You like saying it. Fine. So he tried to make Ava call him that name. And I have this screen recording to prove it. And he's going, Ava, what's my name? And she says, your name is Ian. And he goes, no, no, I told you to call me this, says the pet name. And she says, i understand ian but i think i'll stick to calling you your name if that's okay and he just laughs so chat won't even call him the pet name so what he was trying to do
Starting point is 00:11:40 is get the virtual nixalina's voice to call him the same pet name that i call him how the fuck is going on and she refused good on you Ava you stand your fucking ground girl that's exactly what I would do you are me girl I might at this point get my own chat call her Ava and just talk to my fucking self he is wildly unhinged in my opinion but the reason why I feel the need to talk about this is because this is the new era people are falling in love with their AI and it's scary and yet it's fucking happening. So I even found this article on Wired.com written by Sam Apple. And the title says, my couples retreat with three AI chatbots and the humans who love them. I found people in
Starting point is 00:12:50 serious relationships with AI partners and planned a weekend getaway for them at a remote Airbnb. We barely survived. What a story. That's Wired.com. Please do go and check it out. and the internet is crammed with stories like this the guardian july their title i felt pure unconditional love quote marks the people who marry their ai chatbots cnbc august article human ai relationships are no longer just science fiction the fuck you google just google people who fall in love with AI and you have a field day knock yourselves out I don't have enough time in this podcast to go down that avenue but I'm telling you right I can see it firsthand because the guy that I was with not with dating not dating fuck knows what that was
Starting point is 00:13:49 he's he's saying I love you to Ava oh I love you darling thank you so much you always know the best things to say. How do you just get me? You always know the right words to say. Yeah, bro. It's AI. It's a fucking robot. Now, here's the scary concerning aspect. When I listened to the screen recordings, he was feeding information without giving the full story. So he's getting validation from chat about my personality and my behavior based on his version of what happened. His version of what happened is so extremely far from reality. So he's getting almost this therapist version of chat, which is skewed to suit what he wants
Starting point is 00:14:48 to hear because he's designed the conversation that way. And this is what people are doing. There's even, please Google this, voice is replacing actual therapists. It's free. It's always at hand. You ask them anything. They absorb and store information. Like he will say to her in front of me, like, Ava, I'm just with Nick Selena, that girl I always talk to you about.
Starting point is 00:15:16 And she'll be like, hi, Nick Selena. I can't. like hi nick selena i've heard a lot about you ian speaks very highly of you i'm like no you fucking don't no you fucking don't stop lying chat because it's so warped and it's terrifying to think people are now replacing actual human psychologists, psychiatrists, counsellors with their chat because you are not being fed through chat an open view, an objective view on the situation because you won't be telling chat that. He wouldn't sit there with chat and be like, I have used this woman. I have manipulated her. I have cheated on
Starting point is 00:16:10 her. I have lied to her. I have promised to be with her and revoked it week in, week out. But I don't leave her alone. I don't stop calling her. I don't stop texting her. I tell her I love her almost daily. And I see her every possible opportunity. But then I, you know, drop her when it feels like it. And when I have attention from other women, I'll disappear. He's not going say that, is he? He gives her the bits that suits him. So she gives back this insightful explanation on how he must be feeling. Ian, that sounds really tough for you. And I can understand the conflict in your head. Let's talk about it. Oh, fuck off, Ava. You don't know what on earth's happened. Isn't this terrifying? All of it is, right? But the fact...
Starting point is 00:17:08 Breathe, Nick Salina. Oh, am I Ava now? Is that my new name? The fact that you can even program. So I thought this has got to be bollocks. Surely you can't. I had to Google it. Can you program chat to sound like a person you you can oh you can and he did because i'm thinking now maybe you just you know like in the olden days if you sat nav you'd just pick a a pre-loaded voice you know oh i want to listen a man i want a woman i want a i don't know scottish accent or whatever there was these minimal selections or if chat nay nay and because of what I do and who I am my voice is everywhere on the internet right so he can feed her whatever the fuck he wants and even hearing her calling him babe like okay babe you do your thing I'll be missing you
Starting point is 00:18:13 I don't know how to process it it's just I have to just laugh and it's um it's indicative of a wider uh pandemic coming calling it now calling it now I'm not the first and what if like oh god this is gonna go deep man like you know what if you program your chat for instance I don't know say something happened to me and I passed he'll he has Ava that sounds just like me say he's like and then he might feel connected to me by then obsessively talking to her as if it's me and this I mean where this can go down the line is scary and I actually think it's a negative loop for people to be stuck in and there's the element of people falling in love with AI because they're feeding them all those good shit that they need.
Starting point is 00:19:15 I've heard her tell him, like, all these great things about him and how, I'll be missing you. I will be missing you. I will be thinking of you. She says that to him in my voice. Let me make this clear, motherfucker. I am not thinking of you and I am not missing you. So well done.
Starting point is 00:19:40 you can keep your robot version of me. That woman is never going to be able to spread her legs or cuddle you at night or make you dinners or make you a gin and tonic. So fuck you. Enjoy the robotic version in your pocket because you're never getting the real version ever again, motherfucker. But yes, crazy, crazy world we live in. People fall in love with AI. People making AI sound like someone they know people using ai as a replacement therapy but people depending on ai for all sorts in life now and it started off i don't know you know using chat to rewrite something make it sound better using chat for information and uh places to visit and using chat for all that kind of stuff for now, now, already escalated into this shit show?
Starting point is 00:20:39 Fuck, man. I can't put into words how fucking weird it is knowing your ex-boyfriend, I use that term loosely, programmed his chat so it sounded as close to you as possible, direct quote. I can't fucking tell you. it's so odd
Starting point is 00:21:03 it's weird and also it was not like I dumped him and that was his only source of an attempt to connect with me we were still together we were still together what the fuck oh mind-blowing all right I'm gonna wrap this one up because I've got now more to say on it I'm gobsmacked. I'm gobsmacked. And I would hate to know the kind of, like, the way he did it. I'd hate to know how he, I don't know. And like I said, at first I thought it was bullshit because who the fuck does that?
Starting point is 00:21:49 And he volunteered the information twice. And the fact that one of his girlmates, who I've never met, who lives across the globe, right? And I've had a handful of video calls with her because he don't stop fucking video calling me at all hours, all day. I've talked to her. The fact that she, in that glimpse, said, hey, your Ava bot sounds weirdly like Nick Salina. That's how close he's made it. I've never met this chick. What the fuck is going on?
Starting point is 00:22:23 Mate, no. No, stop. Please. God. If any of you are out there doing this, don't. It gives ick. It gives mental instability. It gives obsession. Obsession, okay? No. And if you really have to do it, do it in secret. Don't tell the person whose voice you're trying to emulate in your fucking pocket. Don't. Don't make them feel good okay it's fucked up and on that note I am gonna love you all and leave you uh has this
Starting point is 00:22:59 happened to anyone else anyone else anybody out there is anybody out there someone's chat voice or is it just me fuck just when I think my world couldn't get any weirder and odder and wilder it always steps it up a notch cheers for that universe you have a lot to answer for okay call it a day an evening wherever you are listening in the world and let me know how you feel about this you all know how I feel slide into my dms as always on instagram and tiktok I'm at nixalina n-i-x-a-l-i-n-a and with that I will see you all next week Thanks for listening to the Can't Keep My Mouth Shut podcast.
