Can't Keep My Mouth Shut - She Said, He Said - Why You Should Adopt, Don't Shop
Episode Date: March 30, 2020Back in March 2020, the height and weight that dogs can be housed in HDB flats have been resized by the government scheme - you can now adopt a dog that is up to 55cm in height, with no weight restric...tion. There are so many slightly larger dogs out there that need your love and happy home life, and they can now get it. YAY FOR THE DOGGIES. Aside from the above, we're all dealing with the affects of the global pandemic of the Coronavirus, which for the majority of us means we're at home alot more than ever before. Now is the perfect time to introduce a fur baby to your home. But before you all head to a pet shop or a puppy farm *cries*, you need to listen to my co-host Paul Foster and myself discussing all the reasons you should always #AdoptDontShop.

This podcast contains strong language and discussions about relationships and sex.
It may not be suitable for younger listeners.
This is the Sex in Singapore City podcast and I'm Nixalina Watson.
Hi everyone, it's Nixalina and I'm back with another episode of She Said, He Said with my co-host Paul Foster.
How's it going?
Hey darling, good to see you again.
Yes, good to be back. It feels like we haven't been in the studios for a while.
I know. I mean, it's been nice to be able to post stuff we've recorded and see the responses.
Yes.
Some of them are brilliant.
Yes, yes. We're getting some great DMs. So thanks to all the people who are messaging us and letting us know that they're actually enjoying listening to us talk shit for like 40 minutes.
It's true. And what I noticed, we did like, you know, one of the episodes we had very different views.
Because all the men on my Instagram commented and were like, I agree with Paul.
And then all the women on his Instagram were like, Nix is so right.
And there we go.
That's why we've got the show.
I was like, we need to swap followers, mate.
We'll get a lot more engagement.
Let's just switch.
No, you can keep the guys.
I got this.
Yeah, you got it.
Okay.
Well, today we're actually going to tackle a bit more of a serious topic and a little
bit off um the beaten path with regards to relationships and dating and we're going to
talk about something that's very close to both of our hearts and it's why we think everyone needs
to adopt don't shop yes this of course is in regards to animals and pets yes so different
kind of relationship a relationship with your fur baby yeah with with a with an animal that
that just wants love you know love in a different way totally just a lot of love yes all the time
exactly too much yeah in your situation so I felt what um just so you everyone knows my adoption
background very quickly I've grown up always adopting animals from shelters um both dogs and
cats never bought a kitten never bought off a breeder um of course when you when you adopt from
the shelter the chances are they're going to be you know a little older they're not going to be
cute little puppies our dogs were one plus the best pets I've ever had um stayed with us
till like 15 16 years um some of them were very well trained already some of them not so much
so and you have to you know you get what you go for and um me personally when I moved out my
family home so we had two cats and one dog all rescues I then rescued my current to UK cat she's
a pedigree burman um and she basically the family gave her up because they had allergic reaction to
her fur she was about one i don't i thought allergic reactions were either there or they're
not yeah right yeah but apparently as she grew up they got allergic reaction it can happen yeah it
can happen um but i don't know what the details are no that's what i said okay fine so um yeah i
got her and then eventually moved over to singapore with me and then once i got her here i adopted my
second cat from cat welfare society so i have a multicultural household you do you do i like it
british and a singaporean um and then my second one obviously adopted she was found on in a drain
in yishun no one knows how long she was being there for she was very skinny covered in mites
covered in fleas broken tail um and she's the most lovable cat in the entire world and um like
i know everyone says oh i want to kid him but i would not change her for anything yeah um so yeah
so i've adopted both in singapore and and the uk and that's perfect and for me it's just uh
my first cat jewel from the animal lovers league i think wow it's been like six years now so and
she's lovely she she's great and then just recently we got two more kittens uh by way of
a rescuer and then a foster but i think through the cws um system as well so uh that's cat
welfare society so yeah two two new little ones that we've got and uh they're wonderful uh but a
perfect time a perfect time with uh the whole virus going on because i've spent so much time
at home and it's been great so we've been uh we've been uh having a lot of quality time with
with these new kittens and and assimilating them into the family of already three adult cats and
one dog uh which has been fun so joe was your cat yep then the other two cats were joey's that's
right and but the dog's yours no bama was joey's as well okay so now you've got five cats one dog
correct yeah and i think joey kind of rescued bam bam as in like got her from like a breeder but
it was like the last kind of pup from that um right from that batch um she did get moshi from
in bangkok and brought her over here while she is the cat yep the other female cat and then uh
bongo the other the other boy the feet the the adult boy now uh he's he's from singapore as well
so so yeah that's it that's our house at the moment which is which is fun is it a house or
a sanctuary yeah is it a house or is it my house is always a sanctuary i always think of that and
that's because of the animals to be honest i mean people who don't have pets for whatever reason
they do miss out on on that unconditional love that a pet can give you it's amazing
it's irreplaceable yeah and it's nice because like you're never really alone
no which is good in a way that's why i got my first cat i just moved to my flat yeah like 26
fresh out my family home i had used to pets and animals and then it went to silence yeah and it
just i couldn't bear it it's deafening isn't it yeah yeah and i was like i need something so
um i mean the cat i got is a mute she not like not she just doesn't say anything or do anything
she's a typical burman in like you know those lap cats that just sit around and look pretty
oh stunning yeah but other than that that's it yeah like moving from the sofa to the bed is the
day's activity so i like i would that's usually what cats do anyways everyone's like isn't that
netflix and chill like yeah the perfect weekend yeah they sleep like 18 19 hours a day on average
i mean that that's that's what i want to come back in my second life oh for sure uh but i think
the one of the reasons we also want to talk about it right now is that it's quite topical right
with the change of rules yeah so in in singapore look we're we're a small country with limited
housing you know because of land right um and it still shits me that we've got breeders here in
singapore which we don't need at all it's zero need for breeders here and the fact that you're
selling animals in pet shops i don't even think we need it because we've got hundreds if not
thousands of animals in per shelter or per animal welfare group that need adopting yeah um it's
i know it's bureaucratic i know it's industry you know so many weird laws that are against
animal welfare and it's just it's just a very very strange situation and yes i mean the good
thing you're right that that law that just came into effect now that allows slightly bigger dogs
uh and and weight now has no no bearing so it's gone from 50 centimeters to 55 that's right and
now no weight limit at all so yeah do you think that's like the 55 from is that gonna be is that
gonna well to be fair it will change a dog's life won't it it fits into that now correct and that's
matters and i want to say they've done some research on it to see that possibly maybe
at least maybe the singapore specials fall into that category which we have a lot of here in
singapore obviously because they're our native dogs in that extent yeah um so i want to think
that they've done it by by by by reasoning yeah um you know what's still annoying is the fact that
cats are still illegal in hdbs for example illegal yeah illegal right you can't have cats
just because of hygiene and and basically hygiene which is also i think absolute bullshit
um i mean if you're a clean person in general you'd be keeping things clean and yeah the cat
litter is you just chuck it with your rubbish yeah and cats are the best pest control you can
ever get they're the best they keep everything in order which is fantastic because they still have
that feline wild instinct to a certain extent to to hunt still which is really great um so yeah i
don't understand that and you know i think i think it's something like 70 percent um people live in
hdbs in singapore yes so if you take 70 of that where cats aren't allowed to live in already so
that's 30 percent that people are allowed to have cats as pets so it doesn't make any sense yeah and
the fact that well you're allowed dogs but now only certain sizes and yet we're still getting
breeders breeding big dogs especially yeah um or and again look not i'm not giving shit to people
who have bought from breeders no or maybe wanted to get a full pedigree well you joey's you know
bought from so it's not you know it's yeah we're not preaching that's right it's yeah and we should
get this out that we should say yeah look we're not we're not giving you guys shit if you have
done that because you still have an animal that you are loving and it's it's part of your family
now and that's the most important thing but i think there has to be a few guidelines and a few
kind of restrictions in place for especially a smaller country like singapore i would like a
slight mindset shift if i'm totally honest yeah in that like oh for instance last year before i got
my Singaporean cat she has a name it's Gizmo ah the Singaporean one um I was trying to look to
adopt a dog yes my idea was whatever home I could give it would be better than where he was
right yeah and I obviously live in a condo not a HDB he was above the size there are so many dogs
in the shelters are way above the HDB approved size unfortunately my scenario and this is something
i did want to bring up he didn't work out um because it was a not a good living situation
for myself my uk cat gremlin and for him he it worked out that he needed to be around other dogs
so he was basically grown up in the shelter um he's never been in a home yeah so he's always
around all the animal all the other dogs constantly so going from that to silence bless him he was
terrified and um myself and my partner at the time were full-time working yeah and we don't
have a helper so it was a horrible decision but this was from the um animal lovers league i cannot
stress enough how supportive they were they were like if it doesn't work out in the two weeks
please talk to us let us know any struggles they create a whatsapp group yeah they're like we are
a no-kill shelter it do not send him on to someone else if you can't handle him please bring him back
to us yes uh like the most supportive i think animal because i think they have to be right
yeah yeah yeah because they know that if it does work it does work and if it doesn't and it does
happen i mean you're a case for an example right there um they they want to make sure that at least
the animal comes back to their care yeah yes and that's very and they and they all do that all the
animal welfare groups will do that which is fantastic yeah well some like in the uk there's
some that be like you've signed the papers right okay not our problem anymore yeah yeah no i think
a little bit different here because um of the of the situation yeah but when we went to go and see
him we went for walking and that we then went to all the puppy mills surrounding it yeah and it is
just devastating and my partner at the time was like i want a dash and i love dashing dogs like
always wanted a sausage dog and then when we went to the puppy mills where there are tons of little
puppy dachshunds he was like it just doesn't feel right it would never i would never be able to walk
in here now and buy one of these yeah for thousands as well yeah they're not cheap they're not and
that's why the breeders are continue doing what they're doing because they make a lot of money
and yeah the ironic thing is now when all the the shelters and the the animal welfare groups had to
move to the ava compound you know you've got half that compound which is all the breeders yeah and
then you've got the other half which is all the shelters but even the royal shelters there's like
one breeder there which you know closes the whole row up with all the windows up it's dark in there
yeah um and it's in this and it is it's a mill it's a factory um and it saddens me that every
time i go down there to do my work if i do some volunteer work or at least to visit like you come
in you enter through the gates you've got to turn right to go to the shelters because the and they
put all the breeders of that first block which is when you first enter and you always see tons of
people walking around and looking up there and it's just so sad because they they just
literally just went left and went down and saw the shelters and saw what was happening there and
thought oh why don't i adopt a dog or a cat i mean not only are they saving that life they're saving
another life that could maybe come in and take its place because most of these places are at
full capacity or past tipping point um yeah there's like 20 cats per cage yes yeah and it's
sad um it's not ideal it's not um and it's tough it's tough to go actually i haven't been back in
a while and i've been trying to think about how i can do a little bit more to help there i want
to create a cattery there uh in an unused outdoor dog run that the the facility had built for some
reason which is not even being used so my idea was to actually convert that to a full
cattery because cats are territorial and they they are they need space and they just you just
need to rotate the cages out a little bit like you can probably take one whole row and put them
in that huge cattery which is like 50 60 meters long they can have space and you can let you can
let the cages have a week each down there for example and just rotate you know sometimes it's
weird you go in there and you think oh wow you know i mean it's hard for for example for all
the animals to keep themselves hygienic and clean in there because it's a constant flux of just
everything right and then i get to move around a lot and so i always tell people when they go in
like if you adopt a dog or a cat from here within the first week within the first few days
you'll you'll see such a transformation in just their fur and how clean yes they become because
they're able to then clean themselves and keep clean whereas in a shelter sometimes it's very
hard to keep clean and of course the shelters are overrun but because they won't turn away
animals that need their help right so it's important to get that message across that
they're not just putting 20 cats in one pen you know they they won't turn away an animal that
needs them yes yes yes of course and um so they're always and the volunteers are incredible always
walking the dogs working funeral and like literally volunteering so it's their own time
yeah and and i think that's the thing people don't quite realize so you you know you go and
you buy an animal and you spend hundreds if not thousands of dollars where you could go to a
shelter and adopt a perfectly equally beautiful being for absolutely free yeah or maybe you have
to pay an adoption fee but it's like maybe a couple of hundred dollars but that's just to
cover some medical and stuff and actually that money also just goes straight back into the
shelter for them to take care of like yep 700 animals yeah my my rescue of the cat was the
same so she was um an individual rescuer so not just a massive organization and she had
20 plus cats in her hdb that she turned into like a mini veterinary area yeah and she charged me six
um two hundred dollars to take gizmo but that was basically because she'd been neutered yep um had
all the vet bills done i mean she'd looked after her for six months yeah so i basically was and
And, you know, she said, if you, if it doesn't work out, I'll refund you.
I was like, no, if it doesn't work out, you keep that money.
And then, and now I pay her as much as I can every month.
So I transfer like a hundred dollars here and there.
And it goes a long way.
Yeah.
Even like when I was like, um, if I can only spare $50 a month, I still pay her.
And you know, that will be another cat being neutered.
And she's, and I, when I went to get the cat, I was like, you know, where does your money
come from?
She said, this is all self-funded.
Yeah.
Yeah.
So the fundraising donations or their own money and, you know,
God bless them all that they go out because they do the whole trap
release programs and they go to vets that also help and support.
So I charge them the bare minimum to cover the cost
or sometimes even a deal where, you know, some are free.
And I think if you take recent years of them doing this program now,
going around and and getting the strays and spraying and spraying or neutering them you can
see that the the stray population is much much lower yeah which is good so we can get that under
control that's one thing and people are doing it out of their own free will self-funding and then
you get again this whole other side of the coin where it's like no we are going to produce more
dogs and cats and breed them and sell them for so much more money because that's a business
and it it so it's never there's never a balance it's very strange and what was weird when i went
to the puppy mills is you go from the show and everyone's barking and screaming every puppy was
fast asleep in every glass cage yeah and i was like does this not feel really weird like every
single one they're used to the noise which probably a good thing in a sense whereas the
And the other dogs were like, you know, middle of the day,
and I just like, and it was eerily quiet and just,
and horrible glass cages with nothing in it.
Well, they don't know any better.
So that's their life and that's it, you see.
But to then have like 2,000 whatever scrawled on a glass cage
or a tiny puppy, and there were people in there.
I was like, please just walk down the road.
What are you doing?
I know.
And do you know what?
the designer dog thing i it's not just like in the uk it was the pugs was the designer dog
everyone wanted a pug now it's moved on to french frenchies french bulldogs yeah where everyone gets
a french dog bulldog puppy yeah buys it rather than because that's what they want they want that
breed yes and it's just like with the cats it's similar like maine coons persians and stuff but
Like, I mean, I was lucky to adopt a pedigree, Berman,
but I'm proof that you can adopt a pedigree.
Yeah, it happens.
Yeah, I mean, I think that my one, my Singaporean,
she acts like a Maine Coon.
She thinks she's half ragdoll.
The other half is definitely dog, for sure.
She's chewed so many pairs of my shoes.
Broken a Cartier ornament, turned the hob on when I was out.
And I was like, just be normal, Berman.
Do what the other cat does.
Sit down.
Shh.
i mean just the whole design aspect like oh i want a purebred dachshund so i gotta buy a puppy like
why does it matter but that's like fashion yeah exactly so people don't have to spend that much
money on fashion but they choose to and again same thing if you have the money and it's your
money you can i guess you can spend it whatever way you want no one can tell you otherwise really
so it's it's more of a principle yeah than anything else um but then also there are
dachshunds in the shelters we saw yeah yeah yes because another thing people don't realize is
what happens and this is this is a hard truth what happens when there's a litter of puppies
and two get bought when the puppies in acute and that's why people want to get them but let's say
the other three they grow past six months yeah and technically they're not sellable anymore because
they're not puppies what do people think happen to to these dogs now if they're not getting bought
the breeders aren't then taking them and giving them the best life they can give and spending
their money to care of them no they're either getting drowned gassed so either put to sleep
or they get dumped and they're found in a drain yeah or in a rubbish you know bin or
just roaming around or just
in a box
outside the gate of one of the shelters and
that's that vicious cycle
they get put there and
same with, on the flip side
same with the mums
the breeding dogs
the mums themselves, they breed
maybe for two, three years
constantly litter
after litter, maybe they get
six, seven good litters out
of them and then that's it
and then they're discarded
and what do you think happens to those dogs?
People don't realize that they're feeding a very dark industry here
where it's pure supply and demand.
And if you are buying from, and it's not all breeders.
Again, we must put a caveat.
Yes, there are responsible breeders out there and I love them
and they're great.
But again, I think there should be a limit.
Like I think Singapore, for example, should maybe have five breeders that have been accredited and are liable to government screening and everything.
And they have to follow guidelines to the strictest letter of the law.
And they can only have a certain quota per year to breed because of what people are able to then buy or adopt.
and and like some of the scandinavian countries where no pets are sold in in pet stores until
the pounds are empty until the shelters are empty or or they don't even sell at all you do have to
adopt yeah because there are still it's just it just works that way i would that would be amazing
to have here in singapore because again we just don't have the space the capacity the population
I'm quite sure the breed is legal, to be honest.
It's money.
It's industry.
That's the thing.
You know, I know an MP who's been trying to fight them for so long.
Right.
And he's never been successful.
And what you've got to understand when it's a business and the money and it's not about the animals is you don't actually know what you're buying.
Because you don't know how much they'll care about.
And I see a lot of it posted online with people like, I've just bought this kitten or this puppy.
It's really sick.
They said to me that it was going to be in perfect health.
It's now vomiting or it's got bad skin condition.
And that's inbreeding.
That's pound hygiene, like, you know, where it's happening.
Also, if the mom's been constantly breeding for two, three, four years, litter after litter,
I mean, genetically towards the end, it's your litters.
Yeah.
The health is not there anymore.
And obviously when they, again, they know what they're doing, they know what they're
doing, but they'll, they'll never tell you otherwise here or there.
I mean, everything's always good and we always take care of the animals and everything's
fine.
And like, you know, again, those examples, I mean, it's really sad and it's really tough.
Like I said, we can't shit on all of them.
No, I know.
You can't do that, but I think there has to be some sort of policymaking
and some sort of decision-making where it just limits breeders for sure.
I mean, even there should be like an accredited list of agents,
which then if we have no breeders here at all,
which allow you to then get your special pedigree breeds from other countries
and then get them flown in.
So that would be the best way.
we have zero breeders in singapore period yeah and if you want to pay you i've always i've thought
about this so much yeah you have to put yourself into a list and you have to say what breed do you
want right and we would go that list would then be taken to all the shelters to see if there's any
dogs that match that just by pure chance yeah obviously it's going to be a full pedigree there's
probably zero chance of it happening but then you should also there should be a a whole process
where you actually have to go and visit the shelters and see,
and you never know, you might meet the one.
And animals find you.
I believe that.
You can go and you can look, but I think there has to be a connection.
When you meet an animal, there has to be some sort of connection.
It goes both ways, but you can kind of tell.
And I think people should go and visit animal welfare groups or shelters,
and then if you really can't find anything that you really, really love
and you don't want to really do it that way, yes, you pay the big bucks,
you go through an agent that agent goes to a to a breeder yeah anywhere in the world you can you
can even choose from a list and you can find out and that's how you get your your your perfect
breed if that's what you want but i think there has to be this whole system put into place i mean
of course as well it's a supply and demand aspect right so if nobody bought from breeders and
everyone went to the shelters that would be the perfect scenario yeah so i guess to help people
who are perhaps thinking of adopting can you give some positives to adopting up rather than i think
we've just covered but like why would they choose to adopt over buying yeah i i think the first thing
is always because we need to help the animals that are in the shelters that's the first and foremost
um why should you pay i don't like the price two thousand dollars i mean that that feeds
so many more dogs and cats in a shelter for a month or two depending on you know the scale of
what they're going or or buys medicine or pays for vet bills or pays for the the the the neutering
and and spaying and stuff like that like there's so so much cost yeah you know the running bill
costs a month it's like fifty thousand dollars right to take care of all these animals so
a your money's gonna be better spent yeah if you're gonna you know you don't even have to
spend money like i said anyways in the first place or it's a small adoption fee and even if
you want to you could if you if you don't care about the money and you really want an animal
just donate that money then yeah donate it to to one shelter to multiple let them deal with the
money and it will help them a lot um so you're doing i think you're doing a better thing yeah
again the argument is but then if we no one buys that puppy what happened what happens to that
puppy yeah right so but that's what i mean slowly after a while if you do it again change that curve
the supply and demand and you don't support um the not so good breeders then yeah you know it
will slowly change you can you can change the tide so what i also like about adopting process
is you get a shit ton of support you probably won't get if you buy it probably not i'm assuming
if it was the same in the uk you go to a pet shop you buy it see you later oh yeah once the
transaction is it's a pure business transaction exactly whereas this is like how's he doing what's
he up to text xx even now i'll send messages i actually jokingly text my rescue of my cat all
the broken things she's broke and i was like i want a refund you have missold me a street dog
and said it's a cat and she's like oh she's found her mom like it's a constant ongoing chat yeah
joey does the same thing with our rescue as well just the updates you know yeah and everyone's
happy and it's much more of a little community and when you do get a pet whether it's your first
one or your second one it is a stressful change yeah so that support is actually really necessary
yeah and without it yeah it's especially with the puppy you know so i think that's a massive
positive yeah and with and i think there's another misconception with animals in shelters that
they're all like something wrong with them yeah there's nothing wrong with that i mean
like my cat i mean if you're going for a designer animal she looks like a pedigree she's a luxury
she's so cuddly to the point like i need space from her okay we need some time yeah you know
she sleeps in me she's crying all the time but in a nice way she just even if i have a bath she
waits on the towel yeah and you know i had to be honest it is a potluck thing in that i had no idea
she would be this way that's her character yeah but i did always speak to the rescuer and i said
what she like and the rescuers or you know they're very they're not just gonna say oh they're all
lovely they want their cats and dogs to go to somewhere good yeah so say you know they're like
this this is their personality and i did go and meet her before i adopted her as well and i don't
want people to think they have to like turn up yeah panic you know i want that one yeah yeah it's
not you you get you get to meet them yeah and it's it's a process i mean we we we on our recent
adoption we met seven rescuers right um across three three to four months right we we really
took our time because there's also a timing thing we knew we were traveling both traveling away for
a while so you knew we couldn't get the new ones in until we were both back on the ground for a
while um but we went we went to seven different homes basically and met a whole bunch of cats and
and you know when we knew which ones were the right ones we're like okay this is it um so yeah
i mean look i get it i get people still have the freedom of choice they can still do it but
i also think that and this is generally with how things work in the world i don't think people
know all the facts and what actually happens no and you know we've grown up in a in a an age of
convenience and and and business so you know if if you grew up and you knew that oh if you wanted
to get a pet you go to a pet store that's all you know you don't really think about oh wait but is
there a shelter is it this is there that um and it's just accumulated over time to the point where
it's just like pretty pretty bad um at the moment or it has been and i think now with all the
programs coming out and uh for the trap you don't release and and obviously you know curbing the
stray population i think that's helped a lot yeah uh but it's still a long way to go because you
know one one cat produces or one dog produces what three four five six i think i saw a big
litter of eight that was amazing one cat had eight kittens i mean you multiply that across
the board it's it's just massive right so yeah yeah it's it's still very heartbreaking i i still
find it difficult sometimes i think like whoa i just don't get how um i can't not cry when i go
to the showers yeah yeah and then the the shelters are doing everything they can and they're and it's
not a bad place like the animals are wagging their tail i just feel for every little soul in there
yeah yeah and that's another thing to point out actually which i believe is another positive to
adopting is their personalities are already known when you buy a puppy you don't know right so these
they can say oh you know like with a rocket who i adopted very briefly right he has to be around
other dogs he needs company all day you know and you've got this process where the volunteers and
show us we actually be able to match it as well for you a dog to suit your lifestyle what you
need and like you know okay i love affectionate dogs so i love dogs that probably need less walks
they're like perfect yeah right this is your guy yeah the one in the corner filing his nails i ain't
going out yeah whereas puppies you get you get it home three four six months in you touch and go it
is so actually it's a safer bet i like that that is why you should definitely adopt don't shop
yeah i look it's a big thing i think we've got a long way to go here in singapore specifically but
um you know again credit to all the the wonderful people who help yes whether they're volunteers
rescuers fosterers do you want to do some shout outs before we wrap it up like is there any ones
that you well again we we've both mentioned animal lovers league because uh that's that was
the first charity or the first animal welfare group and shelter i i supported but you know i
i've come to learn of so many right you know uh sosd uh adsd um so cws uh i use all the acronyms
because we're in singapore but uh there are so many you know even spca i mean they're wonderful
too i've done some work with them yeah um we actually should be doing the best friends uh
animal adoption day again this year in june okay yeah it was supposed to be if i'm not wrong it was
supposed to be june 7th but we need to see whether or not is this first which was this this is where
this is done actually by the wild uh wildlife reserve singapore oh okay wrs we do it at the
singapore zoo and i've never heard of this well i've done it two years in a row now oh yeah um
i mean ken's ken that's where ken saw me uh was it last year the year before last year and that's
the last podcast you'll ever do with me now um we had a date set yeah i'm sorry fifth of july
fifth of july so that's at the moment what we're still looking at but again i'll reconfirm that
but that's that's the that's the first time where um one i guess organization gets several
shelters and animal welfare groups together oh wow yeah so it's like nine groups together
um all together at the event where usually you'd get very independent adoption drives from each
yes organization um but in this case yeah we had we had a whole bunch of them which was absolutely
fantastic and and that was really nice so when we started to do that two years ago it was amazing
it was just like all right this this is fun this is getting all the groups together yeah and and
getting it going so yeah who do we have last year animal lovers league uh asds uh courses for animals
sosd oscars spca exclusively mongrels uh purely adoptions so that was some of the ones that were
with us last year okay and you know we want to expand we want to get bigger and better we want
people to come and it's fun we get performances and people can sell um you know pet stuff yeah
food and and whatnot and most of them you know a lot of money gets funneled back in because it's
a fundraiser perfect um and we educate people about everything um that's actually how i met
chain dog awareness uh yeah and which is why i i work now i've supported them for the last year
since i met them at last year's event so so when we post this to socials we'll tag all of the
groups in so that everyone who's listening who's thinking about this they can go and check out
there absolutely pages and contact them um yeah we're gonna wrap it up because we could talk about
this we could for hours yeah i mean if only you could adopt a really nice man as well i mean i
think you know it'd be it'd be great but uh there's no day off i've adopted two cats for me
that's more than enough hands are full yeah actually to be fair if i had a garden i would
get a dog as well yeah i think that's another thing people have to be wary of yeah um you know
i think and someone to help like i'd have to pay a dog walker yeah you know and not because like
because that dog needs a level of life like so i can't just be in all day while i'm at work that's
right i mean what yeah what better of two evils if that's you know or less lesser of two evils
is it is it really yeah i guess it is but yeah there should be more exactly to that look that
that's a whole nother debate now as well but um yes i i i love how you wanted to to talk about
this this topic um it's really cool and like you said yeah it's a a different kind of relationship
the one that lasts forever yes yes and on that note this is the end of the episode
