Senna.
Pals.
Hi.
What's up, everyone?
It's Achara Kirk and Kristen Stephenson Pino, and today we are watching Child's Play.
This doll is freaking scary looking.
Why would anyone buy a doll like this in the first place?
But hey-ho, hey-ho, we're watching this.
All right, let's go.
Come on.
We're going to go to the hospital with Mike.
Let's go.
I wonder if, like, any small part of him transferred to Andy.
Oh.
Hmm.
Don't like that.
Oh, well, then.
My God.
I totally get why Vivian was like, I cannot watch any movies, like horror films with dolls anymore.
Because I think she watched this when she was a kid.
Right too young.
Yeah.
And it messed her up.
I get that.
I think if I watched at that age, I would be in Mr.
stuff for a lie.
I would be like, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope, nope.
And I was a massive doll lover.
I have a friend who his mother loves Chucky Dolls.
What?
Yeah, and I remember seeing these Chucky Dolls,
but I've never seen the films,
and I just remember going,
that is an ugly doll.
Like, why would you want that?
It's scary.
And so she used to torment her son and her husband stuff,
and she leaves them random places.
And, like, if they moved,
and she's always changing their clothes and stuff.
Oh, my God.
Anyway, she's like, he's so cute.
I was like, what is cute?
There's nothing cute about this Chucky doll.
I'm like, you're just twisting you like dark shit.
Ah.
No.
Uh-uh.
But I will say that the effects that they did, like whatever they used for the doll, the puppetry, the animatronics, all of that worked.
There is just something about horror movies from like the 80s and earlier on when we weren't doing VFX as much, which is just so much scarier because it literally looks like the doll is alive.
The way the hands moved, the way its face moves.
moved and everything.
Like, it felt like...
Real.
Yeah.
Like, I believed it.
The expressions were so human.
It looked really, really good.
And just like the subtle way that they changed it in the beginning, it really did look like,
oh, this is just a doll.
And then gradually, as he became more and more human in the doll's body,
the face started to change, the hair started to change and everything.
I thought that was fantastic.
This little boy, they could not have casted a better little boy.
Yeah.
I think he did the sweetest little crying scene.
And I was like, my poor baby.
But he was just so precious.
He was great.
He was really good.
Whenever you have to cast a child for a horror film, it's hard.
It's hard.
They often find these really great child actors who just fully commit to it.
I don't know what they're telling the children and how they're getting them to do these performances, but they just feel so natural.
And pure.
And pure.
You're like, kid, what was going through your mind in that moment?
Like, did you really see it?
Yeah.
And it sells the movie as well.
because we're immediately just caring about the child
and we just want to make sure he's okay.
I wonder if some of these children,
like, ever watch these films
or after they're done and put together
or if their families are like,
nah, you don't get to watch this until you get older.
Yeah, I reckon it would be the latter
unless you're a psycho parent.
Right?
Because, I mean, if I was just sit there
and maybe my kid just didn't fully understand
what they were doing.
Exactly.
You know, and then they see it
and then they're terrified.
Even though they know it was fake,
I think I'd be like,
I'm not going to let my child see
until you get older and then be like,
oh, you want to see some horror films you did
as a child, you did great. Do you remember this
film? Exactly. I would
never. I don't think I could.
Oh my God, how many Chuckies are there?
There's so many Chuckies. I think
when I was little, I accidentally
saw bride of Chuck.
Not all of it, but parts of it, because
you know, like it's on TV and stuff like that.
I remember there's like a female
version. Jennifer Tilly, great
voice. This was the first time ever
seeing this movie and
So, yeah, finally, understanding.
I think, like, we all know about Chucky just because...
You hear about it.
Yeah, like, the doll.
The doll is so iconic.
Yeah.
Like, even if you've never seen the film, you know exactly what a Chucky doll looks like.
And that is scary.
Yeah, you see them in the stores, and they're so ugly and scary.
Why would anybody want to buy it after this, though?
Like, I personally would never buy this doll, especially after watching this film.
I will say that, like, the story I actually thought was pretty fun.
Like, it's a really interesting thing.
story like what if there was a killer like a murderer who got stuck in this doll's body i wonder about
the writer or the writers of this movie because it's like wow i'm wondering if they kind of stole this
story from japan though in japan growing up we had a story similar to this except for it was about a doll
so the spirit was stuck in this doll and it was in the trash we go trash diving in japan oh okay because you
have you very sustainable no no no and hear me out you find the most amazing things from furniture
Oh yeah, one man's trash is another man's treasure.
I mean in the church, in the church, in the trash.
Even my sisters and I, like, we would go, like my mom, like my other friends, like, we would always go through the trash and we'd get a whole thing of toys, brand new toys or toys that were like lightly used.
Or furniture and we'd wash it down or whatever.
So it's a thing.
Okay.
It's a thing in Japan.
They don't really do thrift shops.
Like you'll find maybe one or two here and there, but it's not common.
In Japan, like I was saying, there's a doll that's in.
the trash. So they did this story
on like this doll being in the trash
and a little girl who you know
couldn't afford this doll or whatever sees this doll
it's a little beat up and she grabs it from
the trash. She takes it home
and she cleans the doll up
makes it pretty or whatever. And
what happens is the doll ends
up slowly killing her family. Oh no.
And so I'm like wondering if they like stole that
idea from the
Japanese story. I watched Annabelle
as well and I know that that's
based on a true story. Well true story.
whatever mileage you want to attach to that
but like yeah that was based on a true story
about a spirit that possessed a doll as well
so I guess like across cultures it like it happens
in Japan some people believe it's a true story
that really did happen we have cemeteries
all over the place and they're kind of creepy
I think cemeteries are just generally a little creepy
I think the Japanese ones are there's something about them
that feel more eerie than any cemetery I've ever been
like the American cemeteries unless you're going to like somewhere in the south or west or something
I feel like it's a little it looks a little bit abandoned right right and that's what makes it creepy
but like here in California like I've been they're quite manicured they're nice yeah they're pretty nice
but the ones in Japan are very scary this film um definitely like if I watched it back then I probably
wouldn't have been such a doll lover because I was obsessed with dolls I love them same and this
This would make me want to get rid of every single doll I've ever had.
And my older sister had a Jackie doll.
I don't think she watched the films.
There's no way because she would have been terrified of it
because I remember going in her room like, that's the doll you bought.
You know, I'm like, whatever.
It was so ugly.
She's like, it will kill you.
And I'm like, yeah, okay.
100%.
I'm like, you're the one sleeping with it.
Yeah.
There's no way she saw these.
This is fun.
There was some good jump scares.
You know, especially when you're making a horror film and you're using those practical effects,
you have to be so much more creative with how you shoot it.
Like, I liked how they were moving the camera.
It's like that classic horror film thing where they're doing the POV of the doll
and they're like moving the camera through the house.
I hate those.
You just get really freaked out because it's like, oh my God, he can see you.
He's coming and all of that.
And then like the moments when they used the doll were really effective.
Yeah.
And I think I just really wanted to see the doll more.
in the beginning, but it was good that they kind of
saved it for later. You know what I mean? So that by
the time the doll is revealed to be evil and you see
him like with the facial expressions and everything
like that, your attention is ratcheted up
to attend. I think they did our, my girl,
the mother of all mothers from seventh heaven. I think they did her dirty
man. God bless her. She's so sweet. You don't put her in a horror film.
She agreed to be in a horror film.
but maybe they should have never cast it that poor sweet lady but that's the whole point i feel
like in in um horror films you almost have to always cast someone sweet so that we the audience
want them to survive and you know they're too pure and so you want them to win otherwise it's like
i think this was made before seventh heaven yeah it must have been i think it did because she looked
very very young yes i think i think this was before seventh heaven yeah seventh heaven was
Are we sure that she's in Seventh Heaven?
Don't you dare question me on this.
I will throw my phone down.
Oh yeah, there it is.
Don't you dare come at me with that.
Don't you dare?
I know my Seventh Heaven.
I know.
I may not know a lot of things on this channel, you guys,
and I may not know like a lot of films.
Seventh Heaven, I do know.
All I did was watch Seventh Heaven.
That was like on 24-7.
It was cute.
24-7.
Anyway, you guys, that was fun.
Hope you enjoyed the jump skates.
I hope your eardrums didn't break.
Who likes Chucky?
Who likes Chucky?
And why?
Tell me why.
Please.
And should we continue watching the series?
