Senna.
Hello, everyone.
Welcome back.
We are watching Don't Breathe.
I hope we don't die.
Right.
The title alone is making me uncomfortable.
Very anxious.
And I saw the trailer for this and it seemed pretty scary.
Oh gosh.
So.
I wanted to start with a smile and I did, but know that that was fake.
All right, guys, get ready.
If you're wearing headphones, you have been warned.
I do not know how many.
screams, this movie is going to elicit, so, you know, just be warned.
This visually impaired man was able to defend himself, shooting and killing both his attackers on the spot.
Now the man did sustain some injuries, but doctors say he is in stable condition.
Shit.
No goods were reported stolen by the victim.
Wow.
Oh my god.
Just leave.
How did he survive?
Do you think he would...
Whoa.
They're not going to see that and be like...
Ooh.
I feel like they did a really great job with the story.
Like just covering all of the bases.
Yeah.
You know, where it's like,
Okay, what are the different possibilities for how they could get out of the house
and also the reasons why they would stay?
I think it was very well executed because every time, you know, you get excited
because you're like, oh, my God, they're going to make it out.
And then it's like, nope, just kidding.
Here they are.
Back inside the house again.
And so that was really well done, I think.
Yeah.
Yes, it was.
It was very scary.
and surprising in every direction.
I could empathize with all of the characters in a way,
which you have to for any good character,
even the worst of them.
And he was so, it's like you're robbing a blind man.
That's super messed up.
But the only thing that makes it semi-workable
is the fact that he's even more messed up.
Yeah, exactly.
Like, I wonder what it must have been like
as they were coming up with the story.
I don't know how many writers or people were involved in the story,
but it's like, yeah, because in the beginning, we were so just like,
why would you rob a blind man?
Like, out of all the things, I get it.
Like, he's probably sitting on a lot of money, but still, he's blind,
and he lost his daughter in an accident.
Like, who would do that, you monster?
Right.
And then it's like, oh, okay, we're just going to make the audience feel better about that
by making him an even bigger monster.
So it's like, okay.
cool I can get on board with that I guess yeah it was interesting because they're like the higher the stakes the more the pay you know that's literally what happened so the higher the stakes they went they found out there was actually more money at stake too yeah and so it's a higher reward but a higher risk yeah ended up being where I mean the loss to get the win is insane it was
it hurt because the one guy Alex who was like the good guy kept coming back for her
yeah and then he dies like what what message are we sending people like now he's going to be
known as the guy who broke into a blind man's house and almost beat him to death yeah and his dad's
going to be implicated too which is exactly what he didn't want but it's just like dang man
why why does the good guy have to die like i get it the the first guy
that died that was kind of obvious that he was going to go because he was such a dick and he like drugged him and
yeah all smart moves but he really messed did messed up stuff yeah he was not he was not a nice guy and so it's
okay fine we couldn't understand why he had to go but i suppose maybe it's the trope of like the final
girl yeah so it's like well there was only one girl so she was always going to survive right so i i don't know
I would have been okay, actually, if she died and we had a final guy instead.
I agree.
I know what you mean.
Because I feel like he really did no wrong.
Yeah.
He was just trying to make a right out of wrongs.
Exactly.
And kept coming back to make sure that he saved her, but obviously woulda coulda shoulda.
He should have just left when he had the chance and called the cops while she was down there.
I think the lesson.
Obviously, she would have been inseminated, but.
Yeah.
The lesson here is don't be a simp.
Yeah.
Like, because you die in that situation.
Because he, I don't know, man.
He was, he's like the, the quintessential guy who's like, oh, I'm so in love with this girl.
I will do whatever for her.
And I'll die for you.
Yeah.
And then he left it up to her.
He's like, whatever, your choice.
You know, she's not even your girlfriend.
And then she chooses wrong.
So it's like, oh, man.
Right.
Right. It's wild. That was a really wild ride. I'm so glad it was just a minute, an hour 30, but I feel like they really kept your interest every minute. And you didn't know how it was going to unfold. And then giving her that, you know, two minute backstory really made a difference. It didn't need much more, but it gave you some inkling to why she's like that.
Yeah. I think the characters were actually quite well fleshed out, at least with the two main ones. And then the.
blind man because you know where they're coming from like you get that the girl really really wants
to go to California for I suppose it's her sister or whatever to have a new life and you and you
understand that she's had a really messed up life because her mom is horrendous and she's such an
abusive parent so it's like okay I get it you want to leave and this is really important to you
And then, like, everything that Alex did was so in character.
Like, the fact that he never killed anyone, like, he didn't hurt the dog.
He didn't kill the old man.
And he was so loyal in everything.
And he cared about his dad.
It's like, yeah, everything he does tracks.
And so I think that that was actually really well written.
Yeah.
I agree.
Because every time I was like, you're in such panic with the character.
characters just going for kind of the easiest thing to get you out of this insanely difficult
situation.
Yeah.
And he, his character thought of something I don't know if I would have been able to think
about in the moment.
Right.
Because I would just be like, how do I end this now?
Exactly.
Like the least amount of get back up and come attack me.
That's my option.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Right.
And I know, yeah, maybe that makes me a killer.
And I hope I never am faced with a situation with a crazy person.
Yeah.
But I don't think I have the wherewith all that Alex had where you're like,
went to cuff him.
Like, I don't know if I would have picked up that the cuffs were right there in my moment of panic.
I would have been like bashed the brains in.
How did he get out of the cuffs?
He's really strong.
I'm like, where are you training?
Right.
For a blind old man, I get it.
He's like X, whatever.
But, I mean...
I think you have to cuff him and then break his leg.
probably you have to do something other than cuff that's not enough security because he
would starve to death so what's more humane you know what I mean that's pretty inhumane too
in some ways like this guy's gonna starve to death down here or we could just ensure all of our
safety and break his legs or put a bullet in him yeah exactly hate to say it this guy's nuts though
he's about how is that going away from inseminating your girl yeah that was wild like I
did not see that coming.
I had actually been warned
by Mary Black, our
editor. She was like, oh,
there's a kind of a sexual thing
that happens in the movie. It's kind
of triggering. And I was watching it, I'm like,
I don't know what you're talking about.
Like, this,
nothing's going on.
Not in my wildest dreams.
Right. Did I think that it would
be this?
And the sick twisted thing is
he's like, I didn't,
I'm not like, you know, our word, which we can't, we're not going to say on YouTube,
but like I'm not, I'm not doing that.
I never did that to her.
And it's like, bro, whatever.
What's the line?
Yeah, like, what do you need to tell yourself in order to make it okay?
Carrying your baby for nine months and then have to put her body through all of that sacrifice
for you.
Sounds like the word.
It's exactly the same.
I'm sorry.
Yeah.
You're forcing that on her.
And it was just those, like, little moments to, it was interesting, like, seeing his semen and there was, like, hairs and it's, like, so gross.
Yeah.
He has his backyard factory.
Yeah.
Just nasty.
So disgusting.
Poor, poor girl.
I know the other girl.
Oh, my gosh.
But it's like, yeah, I guess she did kill someone else.
But, like, it sounds like it was manslaughter, but still, like, he lost a.
daughter so it's like it's so complicated right because it did it say do i or anything because
she said she was acquitted and found innocence so it must have just really been an accident which
is awful yeah awful but it's an awful accident that's not her burden to bear i'm other than
the personal grief i'm sure she would feel for life exactly if you if you've accidentally
killed someone i'm pretty sure that you carry that guilt with you for the rest of
of your life if you're like a normal human that would be the worst punishment ever yeah but oh my god
yeah this movie is wild so tense crazy so tense jeez i actually hurt my voice me too my throat
from screaming actually i really got caught off guard a few times and a one thing i did love
is when they switched to the dark mode yeah i think they did such a good job of visual
being like what your eyes do when it's adjusting.
Yeah.
But they did it through a cool effect where you're starting to see stuff, but it starts in
darkness.
Yeah.
I thought that was cool.
That was like a cool thing that they did to flip it on his head.
They were always keeping us guessing.
Yeah.
To be able to do that in a single location in a house.
It was sick.
Bravo.
Yeah, very, very good.
Yeah.
And apparently I think they're coming out with a part three.
Oh, God.
So I can't do it.
He lives.
It was awful.
Anyway, hope you guys enjoyed the reaction, enjoyed watching along with us.
I hope we didn't blow out your eardrums too much.
And we will see you in the next one.
I'm Achara Cook.
This is Steph's a bra.
