Starting point is 00:00:00 Cine Pals We are watching Galaxy Quest, you guys. We're very excited to jump into this. Let's do it. Here we go. Wow. That's so fun. Oh, what a sweet movie.
Starting point is 00:00:23 Yeah. That's how you do it. Right, right. You know, it feels like a love letter. to all of the fan boys and girls and the nerds out there. And it's done in such a fun way. I was thinking it's kind of like how in Sean of the Dead, they were, you know, making fun of the zombie genre
Starting point is 00:00:45 while being an excellent zombie movie at the same time. And I feel that kind of vibe here. It is kind of making fun of, you know, shows like Star Trek or whatever with a huge fan base. people who are like so obsessed with the nitty gritty of it and like know all of the episodes and stuff and like people who go to cons and the actors and everything involved and all of that while at the same time being a movie that is just so much fun and full of heart as well like i was thinking the exact same thing is for a parody it had so much heart
Starting point is 00:01:21 the characters even though what are they called thermians or something yeah even though the thermians are a lot of them their whole vibe is comedic relief yeah but they're so sweet they were so sweet like i think they just kind of nailed it with the acting because like they always say comedy comes from a lot of it is like the situation right but when you're playing comedy you have to a hundred percent believe in the drama of the situation and that's what makes the audience laugh and they were just so spot on with the characterization of these characters and just how innocent they were like it was so cute and so funny and yet when they were dying it was like i nearly shed tears where i really got kind of tear-eyed was when they had this broken belief
Starting point is 00:02:12 system where their whole paradigm was shut down when they found out that they were actors yeah form of deception and lying it's such a good metaphor of children and their innocence And, like, you just want to do everything you can to preserve that reality for them. But I like it in the end. Everyone stepped up. Like, there were so many funny parts. But, yeah, they just did such a great job balancing where you're, it's a believable story. It actually looked really good.
Starting point is 00:02:40 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, mine is that first shot, which I feel like they did to establish, like, this is kind of a parody. But then everything else, I'm like, that kind of looks like a Star Trek episode or. Yeah. Like, it looks really cool. And like, it was just really fun to go on this journey with these characters and watch them grow and have arcs as they go along in the story. And, you know, you're so right what you were saying about how, you know, this is what probably every nerd dreams of.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Oh, my gosh. It's like how every kid dreams of finding a map like you're in the Goonies. every nerd dreams of their fandom coming to life in this way where you could actually play a role or find out that it's actually real. Yeah. And this thing that you've loved so much. I can imagine finding out Hogwarts was real.
Starting point is 00:03:32 Oh my God, I would die. You'd just be like anything. I would be like, I need an invitation. Like, when I was a kid, I was so obsessed. And this was before Harry Potter. I truly believed that in my dream, I went to a special school for witches. Right.
Starting point is 00:03:51 And I wish that happened for you. Yeah, 100%. I would just be like, this is my childhood dream. Like, yes, let me join Hogwarts right now. So, yeah, I completely relate. I so understand. And I love that they had those characters with Justin Long and his teenage group of friends.
Starting point is 00:04:10 And they were genuinely able to help because they were so nerdy. Yeah. I feel like it's such a validation, especially when maybe you're like, oh, yeah, I am that nerdy kid, maybe, and... I certainly think, like, the paradigm has shifted now. Nerds are so in. Yeah, nerds are cool.
Starting point is 00:04:27 We're... That's totally fine, but I feel like maybe back when this came out, maybe there was a kind of like, oh, I'm like, early nerdy and weird. I'm like that weird kid or whatever, and it's like, no, you are, but, like, just let your weird flag fly and do your thing because you are worthy and you save the day and isn't that everybody's dream? Yeah, I know it's like I feel like those kids probably heard so much
Starting point is 00:04:52 like, why are you even learning that? What's the point? Yeah, and then there was a point. Exactly. Whatever you're into learning, I think you should just learn that. Yeah, just do your thing. If you're not hurting anyone else, why not?
Starting point is 00:05:04 You know what I mean? But yeah, this was such a fun cast as well. Such a great cast. And everyone from, you know, people, in the main roles all the way down to the smaller roles. Everybody did their part so well. And it was just such a treat to watch.
Starting point is 00:05:21 It really was. The alien personalities were so funny and bizarre. Yeah. And I liked how they all spoke different. Yeah. I think they were just like, go with whatever you think your dialect would be like. And it worked.
Starting point is 00:05:37 Yeah, it did. Especially Mathazar. And I loved the way he spoke. It was just kind of this really sweet, innocence and childlike way of speaking. And his eyes, when he looked at them and all that, you're like, I just want to protect this man and his belief in this whole thing. I know. I'm like, do not let him down.
Starting point is 00:06:02 Save this planet. Yeah. So good. This movie was so, so good. This is, like, my favorite type of parody or comedy about stuff like this. You know, like when you're just making fun of something, but doing it in such a loving way, I really enjoy this because it's like a fun movie in its own right. It really is. But like if you had never seen any of those fandoms or heard of it, you'd be like, oh, this is a funny, fun movie.
Starting point is 00:06:28 Yeah, you can still get into it and you can still understand what's going on and you can still relate. And then I'm sure if you're like a more hardcore fan of Star Trek, maybe you would enjoy this as well or enjoy it in a different way. much more of like a casual Star Trek fan because growing up my my dad loved it and we we used to watch like the starship enterprise one with Jean-Luc Picard, Patrick Stewart, you know, love him and then the OG one with William Shatner as well as Captain Kirk and all of that. I wouldn't be able to tell you all of the specific episodes or whatever but like I just really enjoyed the show and I enjoyed what it was all about and as a family it was something that we could all watch together and have a good time so it definitely holds a special place in my heart and then obviously with the captain being captain kirk you know very special captain kirk that's right yeah everyone does love captain kirk yeah yeah this was great so good i loved it i really loved it i wonder at this time i feel like all
Starting point is 00:07:37 of these actors were pretty a list by this time already yeah it's such a fun ensemble cast to get together. Yeah. Because I feel like Sigourney Weaver had already done aliens, right? Oh, yeah, 100%. And Tim Allen had done all of his main sitcom for sure. Yeah, this was 1999. So, yeah, they were just all in their A-list era.
Starting point is 00:08:03 Lanes, yeah. And Die Hard had come out, right? Yeah, yeah, absolutely. So this is so fun. Yeah. What a great parody movie. It was just so surprisingly sweet. Very sweet.
Starting point is 00:08:18 That's the point out, really. I'm like, oh my gosh, these people must be protected. At all costs. It was just surprisingly wholesome and adorable. And just such a lovely movie. So thank you guys for watching this along with us. Let us know your thoughts. Any fun stories that you know about this?
Starting point is 00:08:40 I'm sure there are plenty. Yeah. Do share them in the comments. We love to read them. And we will see you next time. I'm a chara cook. This is... Step to bra.
Starting point is 00:08:48 Ciao.
