Senna. Pals!
I'd be like, hey.
Oh, go like this and that's my head.
Yeah, good job.
Now you're ruining your mic.
I know.
It's over.
After he fixed my mic.
Yeah, your mic is ruined.
Stay still.
Okay.
Get excited.
I'm excited.
I touch my mic again.
Keep touching my mic, baby.
He's touching my mic.
I feel so good.
I like it.
That's my Homer Simpson impression.
You guys, what's going on?
I am Jabby Kauai, joined by Vivian Day.
She Kray Kray and Kristen Steffinson Pino.
Want to try that again?
Want to try that again?
How many years, Jabby?
How many years?
Grand Torino.
I don't know.
That will work.
No, you know why?
He can't say anything about me.
I'm just that cool.
Yes, we'll go with that.
And this is Jabbi.
Job, Jabi.
Happy day.
Co-Co.
He also kind of cray-crank.
Hey, hey.
So, you guys, if you're watching,
we're watching Ghostbusters Afterlife.
Okay.
That's it.
Let's go.
Oh, come on.
Yeah.
Oh, yeah.
Got me.
Eyes are sweating.
What do you think of the fact that they didn't have him talk?
Honestly, there's something better sweet about it.
only because I wanted him to say something
because he always had like
some of the greatest lines I thought
anytime he spoke was hilarious
but the fact that they kept him so
silent
killed me
he spoke through like the lights
and the chess game
yeah because there's really no
lore reason for him not to talk
it's just more of you know
out of respect for him I suppose
because they could have easily borrowed
lines from the previous film and like
kind of assembled it together but it might have been for the
best not to do that because you maybe would be distracted by that. Wow, like they did a great job
of like making you feel his presence, you know, in spite of him not being here anymore. That's crazy.
I know. This will make me cry even more. And then when they showed up, I was like,
there's a whole no. And I'm like, I'm like, everybody's dying.
Everybody's dying.
It's a Gordy Weaver.
It works well.
I'm glad they brought her back for a sec.
Yeah.
I'm glad they're not.
That was awesome.
Yeah.
I really liked it.
So good.
That was so entertaining.
You're okay, Kristen?
Yeah.
You're going to be all right?
I love Ghostbusters.
So they did a really nice job of making this pay homage to the original
and also in its own way kind of be self-contained because you know you fell in love
with the cast in this particular film
with the kids and their adventure.
And it felt very much like films
that we kind of grew up with,
you know, kids going off on an adventure
and doing their thing.
And so it's sort of brought
a lot of different things together
in a really neat way.
It had that sort of Spielberg kid's story approach
along with the Ghostbusters thing.
And it did enough of building up, you know,
with these characters
so that you're rooting for them as well
when they actually go out, like,
I was like, why am I so happy right now?
You know, like,
because when they're going around
catching that first metal eating go,
It's like it did a really nice buildup and then it had like that relaxed moment, then the buildup again.
And I think it was just very, very strong and very well done.
I was like surprised that it got any negative reviews at all.
What?
Yeah.
How can you give anything negative?
What did they say?
I forget.
I think it's because the third act gets a little bit scudushy.
But I think that the film needed it.
Like it did a really nice job.
And I think that it did a great job of giving us a chance to say farewell to Egon.
Yeah.
You know, it was so touching in a way that I wasn't expecting.
I wasn't expecting to have feelings about this like this.
I'm like, god dang it.
Every time.
But anyway, you guys just watched Ghostbusters.
And so how was it for you following up on that?
I feel like the whole time throughout this movie,
I was feeling like, I kept thinking,
this must be how they felt back then
watching the first few Ghostbusters.
Because that was how I was like,
the effects were so good.
I was expecting it to like be corny or like,
if it was not great, I wasn't going to be mad at it.
You know, but their expectations.
Super good.
I got chills throughout, you know, some of it.
Like you said, it was a good homage.
It was funny.
I think it was a perfect next step.
I don't know what happened in the girl version.
I'll tell you in a second.
But this was perfect to me.
It was so good.
Yeah, go ahead.
Like what Vivian was saying, you said,
our expectation for how it was going to look were very low just from the others, you know?
So no matter what, I don't think we could have been.
upset. But the fact that they brought
their A game to this and the way they filmed it
and just like up the value
so much. So fun. But I think
like the first one I loved it so
much and I just adored it
because normally once you go through other
like
iterations. Yes. Okay. Thank you.
Of the films and you go, you start game part two
and three or whatever. You kind of lose that first
beginning thing that you felt loveless.
You know, because they kind of stray away from it.
I felt like they did a really good job at
bringing you back to why you felt
love with the Ghostbusters in the first place.
And then I felt like it was like almost your childhood memories just coming back on the way
they planted everything as well.
And so then when our guys come back or when we started hearing them and we're watching
them, the children evolve through the film.
Man, it broke me.
I absolutely adored this film.
Yeah.
You know, on it being self-contained because I know that there are some people who are going to
be like, no, it really like kind of depends on your love from the previous films.
They did a good job of, like, kind of showing you the original Ghostbusters throughout using YouTube as that access point, right?
And so you see them, you know, here and there kind of dropping in and out, and then the actual Ghostbusters show up.
And so that's what helps to keep it self-contained.
With regards to what you were saying a moment ago, I think that the issue with the female Ghostbusters film is that they were trying to replace the original Ghostbusters.
It's an update, so to speak.
but it's like you can't really try to do the same thing again.
And what's great about this is it went its own path.
And that's what it needed to do.
This is nothing like the first Ghostbusters or the second one.
The equivalent is almost like trash men, right?
Like, it's a group of garbage men, you know, taking out the trash.
Like, that's not what the story is.
They tried to do that with the female comedians,
which you guys should probably watch at some point.
Let us know.
The quality of that film is just nowhere near this one or the other Ghostbusters.
film. And so by having it be this sort of Stranger Things-esque, you know, it being in that sort
of vein of those two franchises, I feel like it makes way more sense as a new direction to take
it. I really appreciated the young kids in here. I thought they did a great job of holding their
own and making me root for them. The visual effects for the most part, I thought was great.
There was one part where, or a couple parts where she's in the car, and I'm like, I get it.
She's a kid. You can't really endanger her, right? But there's a couple moments where I'm like,
I can tell it's a CG girl. But other than that, you know, I'm like, I can tell it's a CG girl.
that, like, I was completely
captivated by everything happening in the movie.
I really appreciate that they didn't do
like with sequels and stuff, they usually
try to do too many inside jokes
or like you, like, throwbacks from
the first few movies. I appreciate
that it wasn't overloaded with that.
Like, they were really smart
with the ones they chose. Yeah, no, you're right.
Because it was done in such a way where it's like, if you catch it,
cool, but it's not going to be this thing
that, like, well, now you can't enjoy the movie.
Exactly. You know, it only able to.
excluded yeah yeah it only enhances your experience so originally when I saw
Gerbertson oh Paul Gary oh yeah okay when I first saw him in the film I'm not a
big fan of him what I'm just gonna be a flat out oh my god are you for real I'm
actually not that big of a fan I love him he's a hit or miss he's a hit or miss for
me you're neutral so when I first saw him show up I was like oh man and I thought how
does he get so many damn roles like how's he and goes he and goes he's lovable and I was
And I was a little bit irritated, but I actually did not hate him in this.
Yeah.
Okay, I guess that's a positive.
So, but I'm not a fan of him, though.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I am not.
But I felt in this film, because normally I feel like he's too cheesy for me and, like, just kind of annoying a lot of the times.
But for this one, and there's like, obviously, there's some films.
I'm like, all right, he was good for that.
Yeah.
Because I think I'm, I've fallen in love with Ghostbusters so much in storyline, but it's more the actors.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
And I'm obsessed within the characters.
I was like, don't throw him in and ruin it.
I was like, oh, man.
And then I was like, all right, you held your own.
Well done, Paul.
Yeah.
You didn't make me get too mad.
You held your own.
Paul, I took some warming up for me as well,
because I was introduced to him through friends.
And before that, I didn't even realize clueless.
And so, but like, for me, he's really grown on me over the years.
And to the point where I'm like, he's just so earnest and, like, positive.
But it doesn't feel, for me, disingenuine.
He feels so, like, real in whatever he's saying.
Like, when he first rose up on the scene,
and he's like, that was a terrible joke.
I loved it.
Like, he doesn't feel like he's faking it to me.
Like, that's his charm and his charisma.
And I think it actually complimented this film
in terms of being that, I don't know what that archetype is
for these kids who are going on that adventure.
I thought he really complimented the kids.
And I was shocked.
Because I was shocked that he complimented them so well.
And that's the only reason why I'm not so upset
because I was like, actually, it works for me.
I actually really, I like your chemistry.
So, Bokim Woodbine is the,
The father of the...
There we go.
What's he been in?
Celeste.
He's the father of Celeste, yeah.
So, Bokkeem Woodbine, I was introduced to him through the movie The Rock.
And most recently, I saw him in Halo, the TV series.
But he's just a fun actor.
He's been in a whole bunch of stuff.
He's just a really fun actor.
I'm a little bit surprised.
J.K. Simmons was, like, in there for two seconds.
I guess he just...
I would want to be.
Yeah, I know.
It's almost like being in a Star Wars film, I guess.
Yeah, he just wanted to lend his talents for a day.
Yeah, overall, positive vibes.
much more than I expected.
It's lovable.
Yeah, there's a part of me that's, like, regretful that I didn't watch it in theaters,
but at the same time, I'm happy that I got to share the experience with you guys.
Yeah, the only thing that I, that didn't happen that I was kind of half expecting
was that the people from the restaurant, the other kids, were going to, like, join in somehow.
I thought so, too.
Because of, like, when they were around the table, like, looking at them out.
Yeah, that was weird scene.
That was weird.
You know, it just, it seemed like they were going to also somehow help them participate.
I'm glad they didn't because then it would have splintered.
into a lot of different directions.
And so I'm glad they resisted that temptation.
Because overall, you know, I thought it was a solid film.
Yeah, exactly.
I couldn't, I didn't like that they were all like this unless they were going to be a part of it
because I thought that was weird.
Maybe that was just a show that was a small town and like, you can't escape from it.
Yeah, that would happen.
People would get curious and nosy.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Anyways, you guys, thanks so much for hanging.
I'm Jabby Kouye.
This is Vivian Day.
And Kristen Steffin-Sapeno.
Peace out.
