Sinha. Pals.
What is up, everyone?
Welcome back.
I'm A Chara Cook, joined by Kristen Steffinson Pino,
and we are going to be watching Godzilla, the 2014 movie that neither of us have watched.
Have you got hiccups now?
No.
Are you sure?
No.
Okay, I thought I heard you.
I mean, I did have one hiccup.
But I think I'm good.
Oh, God, it's a hiccup attack.
Why is it any time I'm with you?
I get hiccups.
It's because I'm just so amazing.
It's from laughing prior to, and I'm like, I'm taking too much air.
when I love. Just to give you context.
I ponged, okay?
It's been a sweaty day.
I had no deodorant.
She's going there.
Sometimes these things happen.
And then you smell yourself and you're like,
God, I'm offended.
I am so offended at my stench right now.
So I had to do something about it.
And then we were laughing about that.
I came over.
She's like, I stink.
She's like, I know.
And then I was like, it's okay
One day, like, you know, I was in here filming
I was really sweaty and Jambi
And I was like, told Javvy, I was like, hey, I was like sneak
And he's like, yeah, I smoke
I'm like, you're not alone, join the glove
Yeah, keep it. It happens.
We keep it real here on the channel, you guys.
This is why Char and I are so like, we get it.
Besties.
We're very self-aware.
We're like, ugh.
Yeah, we're rough.
We'll, yeah, we'll roast ourselves.
Anyway, all right, you guys, with that being said,
let's start the reaction.
Can we lower your mind?
Yes, I'm quite loud right now.
Okay, I'm like, just a little, please.
It is quite loud.
I know, I'm not usually this, you know what?
I always have a lot more energy in the beginning, and then you'll be like.
No, you're good, you're good.
Okay, cool.
Some days I'm like really deaf.
And other days I'm like, ah.
Anyway, dang.
It's stressful.
Yeah.
This movie felt long.
I think it felt longer than it actually was.
Yeah.
Honestly.
Yeah.
Okay.
I'll start with the things that I liked about it.
I thought that the movie did a really great job of showing the scale of the monsters.
Yes.
And I really like those shots where you're just seeing people in the frame and then you see just like a leg come in.
And then your imagination goes, holy crap.
Like if that's just like a foot, then how big is this thing?
And I think that they did a really great job with scaling it.
And the thing that Jabby often complains about is like,
when a creature is that big, it can't move that quick.
So, like, I feel like it got the physics down pretty well with, like, the movement and everything.
But then again, it's just like sometimes because it's moving so slow, it feels slower.
Yeah.
You know, so it's like, I don't know what the proper balance is.
one of the more recent ones,
the one before the new one that's coming out.
Yeah, like, Godzilla was moving fast.
He was like,
but it was fun.
I don't know.
She said,
you know, you know what I mean?
He was just like getting some fighting down really quick.
I didn't actually mind it, I think, at the time.
But yeah, maybe there's like a kind of
split the difference type of thing that can be done.
But, like, there are a lot of really cool looking,
shots as well, like the
wide shots, I think this director is
really good at just kind of
setting the scene and giving you
a beautiful piece of
scenery to check out. But yeah, what did
you think? What were your favorite parts?
My favorite parts? Honestly,
I actually like Godzilla. I like the way
he looked. Yeah. Oh, yeah.
I really like the way he looked. I think they did a really good job
with him. I did
like the scene with
the little boy in the
in the train. Yeah.
That was nice.
I did like that because it just shows, like, the empathy, but also, like, it showed our main character in a different light.
Like, he's still a dad at the end of the day, but he's also a protector.
I do wish that the dad was more involved.
Oh, Brian Cranston.
Yeah, because I feel like the film was so long, like that he could have been in it a lot longer.
You know?
Almost was she, like, witnessed it or helped somehow defeat it in some shape of form.
I didn't like the bat creatures, the spider bats, whatever.
I mean, they looked good.
You just didn't.
Or is it, what is it?
No, I felt like they looked out of place to me because they look like aliens.
And I guess in some type of shape or form, they could have been, they could be like alien form.
I wish they looked more dinosaur form, like dinosaur-ish.
Well, there's lots of...
Or more animal, like, kind of like Godzilla.
Like, Godzilla looked like he was a creature from another time.
time and like which made sense where they just look like if it was going to come from the same
Godzilla time frame they just look like they were aliens from outer space yeah no I'll give
you that I mean I don't know an awful lot about the Godzilla lore I know that sometimes there are
other creatures as well like I think mothra which is just like a giant moth which is really cool but
then they should look more like a moth yeah exactly like animalistic I mean I guess they kind of did
look like cockroaches, but I think it was just
the way the head looked
and like the... At first.
At first, when they first came out,
I thought they looked better until
they started really showing what they were
and I feel like they lost that bug aspect.
Sure.
That's all. That's all I'm saying because it also looked a little bit
too, like, a little too sharp,
like a little bit too futuristic, like, alienish.
Yeah. That's all.
That's all. Other than that...
Godzilla looked really good.
And like, when you looked at the detail and stuff
of the creatures even
like when they open their mouth
I kind of like that
because it looks like real
yes no I like that but it reminds me of
men in black the aliens going
you know
and all the saliva and then I thought
like Godzilla just was incredible
like he just looked so good
really really good that I feel like
they kind of missed it with the other two
and they could have been even like it could have looked
just as good as Godzilla
you know what I mean yeah no I do know what you mean
that's the only that's the only thing
that kind about
me other than that I thought it was like it's it they did a really good job I think this is one of
those things where maybe the director was trying to make a story a Godzilla story where you could
focus more on the human characters but honestly I didn't really care I like the traveling
too yeah that that was actually fun I'm I'm I liked the journey yeah like all the different
locations yes it's really fun and I love that Godzilla the whole time like I like that
he kept going under the ships and then every once in a while I was like it was almost like
oops my bad but you know whatever I'm an animal so like I don't know any better kind of deal
yeah like I like that I really did whatever reason I wasn't feeling the connection yeah through the
TV do you know what I mean yes I was right there no I've got connection through the screen I felt
the same I don't know what it is because they are they are good actors and so I just have to think
that maybe it's just I think it had the storyline yeah because it didn't really have this okay
if you think about it, there wasn't that much
dialogue. Yeah. It was more of like watching
a scenery, like beautiful sceneries.
The dialogue was minimal.
Yeah. Yeah. I'm like,
hold on. Translation.
You know, sometimes that's great, but I feel
like this one, because there wasn't
much dialogue, I almost
feel like that's what made it feel
extra long because we were, we were,
it fell short a little
bit on the storyline. And the pacing.
The moment we lost,
I almost feel like I'm going to throw myself under the
here. I almost felt like this was like a Kristen storytelling moment where, you know, you forgot
what you're doing and you're just kind of like, yeah, you're meandering a little.
You lost the moment. You lost the story the moment you killed the dead. Yeah. Let's be real.
It was a Christianism of like, whoops. Yeah. And then I went off to do something else and I
forgot. Yeah. But you're absolutely right because I was really interested in having this
adventure between the father and the son and the potential reconciliation between the two of them.
But then he just died. And then he just died. And then he was really interested in having this adventure between the father and the son. Yes. And then
He was also the one who potentially had, like,
exactly had information.
So it did, yeah.
So that was the only thing I had a problem with it.
It didn't make sense to me why they would off, like, eliminate him so early in the game.
Because it was almost like a wasted storyline.
Like, there was no point, I feel like, because the son didn't really, to me, the son didn't really have a strong role as the father did.
I wish, like, along the way he was like, a.
learning with his father.
Yeah.
And then from there, if his father happened died, then he'd be like, hey, you know, I, like,
I filled you in to kind of deal.
And then he's like, all right, boom.
And he became like, you know.
Yeah.
And then also, like, potentially, I'm throwing this out there.
But I'm fully aware that this is probably a big, ripe, stinky cheese.
But sometimes I want a little bit of cheese.
You know, like, have them go through this adventure.
And then at the end, either he can reconcile with the entire family.
and get to see his grandson and daughter-in-law or whatever.
Or, like, he dies right before, and he's like,
oh, my God, tell my grandson, whatever.
I wanted to feel more things, and I didn't.
I wanted to feel more, too.
I actually felt like I was more connected to Godzilla than anybody else.
And that's fine, actually.
And Godzilla didn't even speak.
I just felt like he was like this rescuer,
and then he was awakened because he was like, hmm, food.
You know, and I'm like, all right, we're on a hunt for food.
I get it.
I get it.
I'm hungry.
We're in the wild.
And it just became more of like, I was watching lions, tigers and bears.
And maybe that's just the way that we have to approach the movies.
Or at the very least, these Godzilla films, it's like, if we just focus our interest on the creatures, then we're probably okay.
But it's interesting because I recently watched Godzilla minus one, the Japanese film, which is excellent, and perhaps we'll have you react to it at some point.
But that one actually did a very good job with the human characters.
So you actually, like, really cared for what they were going through.
And, like, yes, Godzilla was really cool and all that.
But, like, the main focus was more on them and how they handled it.
Did I see that one?
No, you saw Shin Godzilla.
Okay, no, remember, that's a different one.
Yeah, it's a different one.
Okay, I was like, that one was pretty interesting, too, though.
Yeah.
Like, that one was very, very different than this.
But, like, I actually really did like the way it was filmed.
Yeah.
Stunning.
It looked amazing.
I like the concept of it.
Yeah.
And I think, like you said, you know, I think we do have to just appreciate it for what it is, like, the nature of it.
Yeah.
Because maybe it would be terrifying, but, and maybe it was, it was just is what it is.
I mean, here, here it says in this little blurb that we have on Amazon, it says,
a story of human courage and reconciliation in the face of titanic forces of nature.
Godzilla pits the world's most famous monster against malevolent creatures that bolstered by
humanity's scientific arrogance threaten our very existence. Most of that is correct except for
the reconciliation part. Yeah. And I really wanted the reconciliation part. I did too. I wanted the
dad to have a moment of something, but I needed more of him. Okay, I take that back. There was a little bit
reconciliation, they had a little moment where son's kind of like, I'm sorry, I didn't believe
you. Like, you were right. And then he died. It was too soon. Yeah. Too soon. You dropped the ball.
Yeah. That's it. That's it. It was, I think the dad was the most interesting part of the story
and that whole dynamic as a whole. Yeah. One. And it's like, you pulled a christenism. You like
forgot. You like forgot. You forgot. Stay focused. I know. I know I understand. You know, sometimes I'm
unfocused. I get it.
understand. I understand what happened, but you try to make a comeback and, you know,
BS your way through and, you know, I mean, overall.
Sometimes it works. Sometimes it doesn't.
You know, anyway, let us know what you guys think in the comments below and what Godzilla
movie should we watch next. I'm a Chara Kirk. This is Christmas Savesvino.
Ciao!
