Senna. Pals.
What's up guys? It's Kristen, joined by Mr. Michael himself.
Hello, hello.
We're back with Harry Potter, Prisoner of Ass.
God damn.
Sorry. Harry Potter, Prisoner of Ascabon.
With that being said, let's hop straight into it.
They made me do it.
You got a new broom?
Yeah, guess who's got the fastest broom on the market?
Harry, you're back in business.
Yeah, who sent it?
Your godfather.
Yep.
Godfather.
Mm-hmm.
Take it for a spin.
It's got hippogriff feathers on the end.
That's awesome.
Whoa.
Yeah.
I love how everybody comes out to support him.
Oh my God, he's so high in the air.
That's awesome.
So this was your favorite buck.
This was, yeah, this is my favorite of the book.
What part of it was your favorite?
For me personally, I liked all the sort of like secrets and layered reveals that was in it.
This one more than others.
I mean, the whole series is a lot of layered reveals.
Like, they set up things in the first book that don't get paid off until like the last book and the end of the last book.
Okay.
Which has always been a really great part of the series.
But this one leans really heavily into that where it's like setting up, oh, serious black is an evil wizard and we got to watch out for him.
And then, you know, the black dog in the tea leaves and things like that actually is portending things that Sirius is a black dog.
And then, you know, the reveal that Lupin is a werewolf.
And they didn't go into it quite as much in this one, which is a little disappointing.
But one of the things that they talk about with Lupin is in the book.
In the book is he was bitten as a child.
He was bitten by a werewolf.
And I can't remember.
I don't think this is spoiling anything if it does come up later.
But in this book, Lupin talks about his affliction and that he was bitten by a werewolf as a child.
And so he came to Hogwarts as a werewolf.
Oh.
And so the premise was him, Sirius, Peter Petty Gru, and Harry's dad were all really, really good friends.
And they wanted to be able to support their friend whenever he was afflicted by the werewolf change.
so they all became unregistered
animagus because
Professor McGonicle talks about it
because she's one as well
she becomes a cat
she has the ability to become a cat
you don't see it much
but it's in the first movie
she's an amygus who can turn into a cat
but you have to register
with the Ministry of Magic
to become an amygus
so they became unregistered
anemagus so that way they could be out
with Lupin
whenever he changed
Oh that's cool
Peter turned into a rat
serious turned into a dog
and Harry's dad turned into a stag
which is what his Patronus is
Interesting
Yeah so these are kind of some set up things that they don't quite talk about
But like I wish they did because that's cool
That I really really liked
That's why all of their names
Padfoot Mooney
Which is Lupin because he's Mooney
Prongs is Harry's dad
And I can't remember the last one
But yeah those were their nicknames
So that was their map
That Lupin talks about anyway
that's a whole like lore dump that obviously don't have the full time in the movie but yeah again
it's my favorite of the series because it talks a lot about like the friendship and like early life
at hoggwarts of the wizards that came before our cast of characters and it sets up a lot of like
their life and sort of my personal favorite characters which are lupin and serious is obviously
a fan favorite that everybody loves so that's that's a big reason why i love prisoner of asgaband
along with the like sort of layered timey whimey storytelling
I thought this one was really cool because you're definitely seeing the characters grow
and become more young adults and they're starting to get even more daring
where like, you know, you go from the first one and Hermione's like all about the rules
and then now she's breaking up, you know, they're coming into their own.
I think what's very interesting is Professor Snape keeps showing up throughout all of them.
And to me I'm like, it's kind of convenient.
don't you think Mr. Snape's like you just keep showing up like what are you doing makes me want
to go what are you doing professor Snape and I don't know exactly what that is yet but there's
got to be something to it because I'm like how is he just always on his date and like showing up
they're always at the right time or the wrong time I guess I'm not sure if he is good or not
Like I'm kind of, I'm just conflicted and kind of confused about him.
It's like he's protector, but then at the same time, sometimes he does some shady shit.
And you're like, whose side are you on?
Who side are you on?
I'm confused.
What are you working for?
Yeah.
Do you want Harry to succeed?
Do you not want Harry to succeed?
What are you doing?
I'm confused.
Yeah.
I'm very confused by him.
I think, uh, the new Dumbledore, like, wow.
Like, I think they did a good job at making him, like, picking one that looks just like him.
The only thing I did notice is he.
He's a lot more stern and has more power.
Yeah.
Where the other one was a lot more nurturing and soft.
Where this guy, I don't feel the same like, it's fine.
Like he was almost like zen.
Gentle grandfather.
Yeah.
Yeah.
Like he was like a little bit more on the Zen side, but also like very like, it was almost like you're, I'm exhausted, but I'm so calm and collect.
Where this one's a lot more like has a lot more passion maybe.
Maybe the right word would be.
Right.
You know, because he's very like, oh, la, and I was like, so when he first started speaking, I caught that.
And I was like, okay, I know they changed it.
And I'm like, is this the new one?
And that's why I asked you.
Yes, yeah.
Which is interesting that I caught that because I think I'm not used to him being so.
Yeah, you can definitely tell there is a difference in the interpretation of the character between the two actors, which is good, which is a good thing.
You never want another actor to be stepping into a role and doing the exact same interpretation,
because then it feels like you're playing a caricature or an impression of the other person's character.
So, you know, he's clearly bringing his own thing to it, which is a little bit more of an intense, like, energetic Dumbledore, which I think, you know, he still, he remains Dumbledore throughout the rest of the series, I believe, and is a strong interpretation of it.
It's just, yeah, because we're watching the movies, like, back to back to back, that change is a bit more jarring than I think it would have been if you'd watch the movies as they were released.
Because otherwise, there was a brief second, and I think the thing that really gave it away was that increased passion of his character.
But there was a brief moment where I was like, I can't remember if this is actually the one where they change him or not.
Because, like, for all intents and purposes, he looks very similar to their original dumb.
I wouldn't be able to.
Very similar.
Physically, like, I don't, I think the other one was a little bit more plump in the face, maybe.
But other than that, they look identical.
Yeah, they did a really good job.
They did such an amazing job.
Finding someone with a similar look.
It was more of like the voice and delivery for me.
Mm-hmm.
But also I wanted to talk about that hippie, the hippie witch, man.
She is like, my little aura lady.
Yeah.
She's creepy as hell.
She's scary.
Right.
There's something like, but it's like weird because you want, I feel like I want to like her, but I'm also like,
like, give me, give me, give me.
And it's so interesting to finally see Hermione have a time.
topic she does not enjoy.
Oh, yeah.
And like Michael is saying as we're watching it, it's funny how she's like, oh, this is
poppy cock, like this is like, huh, even though she comes from a world of like, you know,
like she's casting spells.
She's seeing people turn into animals.
But it's because she doesn't have the ability.
Hippagriffs, everything else.
And she walks into this class.
She is literally turning back time to go to extra classes.
And then she walks into first day of divination classes like, this is bullshit.
Yep.
This is stupid.
And anybody who believes in this is dumb.
I just, that's such an interesting character choice.
I'm not going to lie.
I kind of love it because there's something, because it's like, it's, it also shows there's
certain things, certain people or certain wizards are unable to do and unable to master.
And we know Hermione as this, I can do it all like I'm perfect and everything.
and it's the one thing she cannot do or see
and she has no like internal instinct to like really hop in
and she's like oh like it pisses her off to no way honestly I love that
because we all have that one thing yeah we cannot do and we hate it
or we're just so annoyed at the fact that everybody else is good at it I just
it's so funny but the way the teacher just roasts her oh my god yeah just
ripped into her she destroyed her it was almost like uh this moment where uh my friend who's like hardcore
like she's a hardcore feminist which is this make the funniest thing ever she fainted long story
short i'm gonna try to keep it sure it as possible but she fainted and she's just being nasty as hell right
and i remember like this lady she goes whack snapped her in the face she wakes up and she sees me
because she kind of faint and she's like oh and we've we've been having kind of like some beef because she
messed up bigly like badly well anyways the lady goes whack slaps her again she's up and I'm like
he he and she's like I'm good and she goes whack slaps her again I'm like yeah one more time
more time do it again do it again do it again she deserve that and the lady slaps her again grabs her hand
and she's like I'm good so we go into the next room right and the lady straight up tells her and this is
the moment I feel like this is Hermione and the teacher the woman straight up looked at her
And she goes, you are not strong woman.
You are weak.
And I die.
Like, I just saw her, like, because she's hardcore, like, rah, like.
Rha, like, to the extreme of, like, I kind of struggle with it.
I just was like, and I looked at my friend.
I just see her eyes.
And she got so mad.
And she was about to cry.
I'm like, and she goes, no, you are a weak woman.
You are not strong.
And I was like, you're good.
You're good.
Shake it off.
Check it off.
Okay, okay.
Move on.
Move on.
And so I couldn't help but, like, laugh at that part because it reminded me of my friend when that lady just, like, roasted her.
And I felt like that teacher just did that Hermione, and she was like, ooh, yeah, right?
Oh, my gosh, Hermione lost it.
And I'm just like, damn, ouch, that one hurt.
That one hurt.
This is a really strong film for Hermione as a character.
Yes, it is. Oh.
Because she really kind of comes into her own.
And we've been talking a little bit about how, like, over the course of the last two films, there's been that evolution in Hermione.
of her becoming a little bit more of a rule breaker or willing to break the rules to do what's right rather than being a strict rule follower and so this one she really kind of comes into her own where she's standing up to Malfoy and threatening him and like punching him in the nose and then as soon as Dumbledore is like hey you have this time turner do the thing she was like okay cool I'm on board like it's it's really kind of been fun seeing Hermione as a character come into her confidence and come into like oh yeah I am a
a valuable member of this group
and the rules should be broken
if it means doing the right thing
which I think is still very well within character
and definitely like her learned behavior
and I'm enjoying seeing it happen
in the film. Completely full hardly
agree with that with Hermione but I also
love that Harry Potter's also defending
himself a lot more but man
he's feisty he's coming into that
like that agro they both
are you know and their agro teen phase
and I love how Ron
is like Ron
so Ron, he hasn't really gotten over the baby's yummy. He's just doing his best. No, he's like in the, he's in the,
he's still in the yummy's face, you know, the sweet yummy like, yo, I'm Ron Williamsley. He's a little
bit behind his friends who are like elevating and going through like the puberty changes. Uh-huh.
And Ron still, you know, we always have that one friend that's a little bit like still like,
oh, you know, whatever. And so I'm really interested and intrigued to see how Ron's character
eventually changes because he has to change at some point and something has to like where we're like
we're on you know whoa wrong where did that come from and i keep thinking back to the last one we watched
how you were telling me how they made this to where we can grow and evolve with our characters
on their journey through their childhood all the way up and i'm feeling that and i'm loving it
I think doing that is like absolutely spectacular and brilliant on the creator's side.
Again, music, set design, all that, like all the set design, wardrobe, everything's still so on point.
I also love that this one because we are getting a little bit older.
And I love that.
Yeah, we get a little bit more of their characters through their wardrobe.
Yeah, yeah, I love that they gave us that opportunity to have a little bit more like freedom with the outfits.
So it shows like, hey, we're getting older.
We're a lot of also where now it's, we're not strictly tied to a uniform, you know?
And even then you see a little bit more of their character coming through in their uniforms
because it's gone from like mom and dad are doing their uniforms.
Or like, you've been strictly told how to do your uniform and tie a tie.
And now it's like, man, I don't really want to like wear my tie all the way tightened up.
So they're finding their own sort of style.
And the only other place that you really kind of see it in media is anime because like a lot
the Japanese schools have uniform requirements.
I'm sure you're very well aware.
Yep, I had.
And so I always think it's a really interesting character study in how characters wear
their uniforms and a wardrobe study.
So like, you know, kudos to the wardrobe department kind of looking at these characters
and determining like, okay, how would they wear their robes?
How would they, you know, show up to class as they get older and like need to do their own
outfits?
I will say this.
I'm a little bit disappointed.
and Ron, or not Ron, in Malfoy's character development.
Oh.
And I say this because I feel like in the first one, he had more spunk and more,
and he was just like, he seemed stronger to me.
Okay, yeah.
And now I feel like he's starting to get into this wimpy phase of I'm a bully,
but I'm a wimp.
And I'm not sure if I really like that for him.
Only because, but then I think of like, I mean, you think of his father.
Yeah.
And he's so tough.
It's tough and big.
And I feel like in this one, I'm just thinking,
is it because you get beat like Dobby?
And so, like, you kind of have similar.
He kind of has, like, some similarities to Dobby.
To Dobby.
Because when he gets started, he's like,
ah, you know, and it's like so extreme, like, Dobby.
But then, but then he's like, yeah, yeah, I'm tough.
Like, he, like, tries to fluff and flex his feathers up.
And then all of a sudden, it's like, oh, master, master.
You know what I'm thinking it probably is?
It's interesting.
I'm going to justify this from a character standpoint.
point. Everyone's gotten old enough to start standing up for themselves. And Malfoy has largely
lived in existence where him threatening to go to his dad was enough to cow people, right? But now
they're older. Now he's not a kid anymore. He's on his own. So he's still talking that big talk,
but he's never had to back it up before. So suddenly people are coming back at him with the same
like, oomph and aren't afraid of him just by like, I'm going to tell my dad on you. And
And so he's having to realize that like, oh, the world's kind of a scary place and people
are like, will actually get angry at me and I can't just like front my way through life.
Also, I would argue that, yes, his dad is a very imposing figure.
And his dad being an imposing figure means that Malfoy has never had to stand up for himself
outside of just like spitting venom and being mean to people.
So he's kind of a limp because he's always like he's never had to like stand up for
himself because he always just would like hide behind dad and be like go get him dad okay okay so i like i think
it's true to his character as disappointing as it is i know i just wish he had a little bit more backbone
yeah a hair more and not so you know but i think you make a very that's a solid point yeah that is
true because that's actually true in real life too yeah yeah okay i think i think it's it's i just feel like he's
So, like, I want more from him because he is a great character.
I do authentically, thoroughly enjoy him.
And I love the banter between him and Harry.
And I love his face expressions.
Right.
And I think, like, when he was younger, I was like, he is so adorable.
Like, look at those cheeks.
And I'm so sad.
His cheeks are gone now.
I know.
He's really, he's glowing up a little bit.
They're all, like, it's so crazy to see all of him growing up.
I'm like, no, my babies.
Uh-huh.
And the twins are absolutely.
amazing. I hope that they start to
utilize. Oh, Fred and George, yeah. Yes, I hope that they
utilize them a lot more
because I would not mind
seeing a lot more of those two. I think they're
characters. They always have been
and they're very lovable
and likable and they're funny. I feel
like they could have their own show in themselves
like by themselves.
They're great. It's cool. They're really good.
