Starting point is 00:00:00 Sina. Pals! What is up, everybody? And it's Chris and Subisino, joined by Mr. Michael Boots. Hello. Booh. I'm sorry. I made it up.
Starting point is 00:00:11 Boom. Boob. Boot. Michael Boose. What did I say, boom? Boom. Booth. Sorry, Michael.
Starting point is 00:00:21 He has the most simple name possible. But it's so much fun to say that I have to make things up. Yeah, yeah. That's okay. I respect it. I don't know why. Only with you. I make it up.
Starting point is 00:00:31 I love you too, Kristen. Well, you guys, we are back with Mr. John Wick. This is John Wick, chapter three. I have high expectations because they have so much quality to give that I'm like, come on. Bring it. Please. Bring it on, John Wick. Please, you can't have this much talent and greatness and not deliver.
Starting point is 00:00:55 So let's keep going. You pissed, John. Got that right. Yes. Yep, he's back. He's pissed now. He has a reason. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:01:13 Finally we're pissed. Yo! It's about damn time. It is about damn time, John. Let's see that character get angry. Like really, really angry, like scary kind. That was wild. That was an adventure.
Starting point is 00:01:31 All right. All right. God damn. All right. All right. Number three brought it back. All right, number three. 100% brought it back.
Starting point is 00:01:40 You brought your egg game. You knew you were lacking in two. There's no way you didn't and you needed a comeback strong and you succeeded. You did what I needed and what I wanted. And well done, executed. Mr. Derek. Yes. Mr. Derek.
Starting point is 00:01:56 You finally came back and you came back for. from the dead from chapter two, okay? You, you, my, sir, the writer, you came back from the dead. It was a really strong comeback. And you said, you know what? Let me grab that potential. All that I dropped off the titanic. He brought him back and was like, I'm just kidding.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Bring me back that jewel. And he's like, just kidding, Jack, I got you. I got you. I got you, Jack. I got you, Jack. I'd never let go. There's some room on the boat for you on my door. Okay. Well done. This is what I wanted because, see, you, you have everything in the palm of your hand and you did not disappoint finally. You didn't drop it. Okay. You have too many amazing actors. You have access to, like, the world. And you just, thank you. Thank you. It's about damn time. I was, I'm not going to lie. I was a little bit worried. And I'm like, ugh, because I was so disgusted with the- With the second one. Yeah. She was ready to quit the franchise after the second one.
Starting point is 00:02:57 I really was, but you brought it back. We're back in a big way. We're back in action. We're back in a big way. John Wick's back, baby. Oh, yes, he is. And I'm not going to lie. Like, I'm here for it.
Starting point is 00:03:08 Now, I will say there are some of the lines that John Wick delivered, that I felt like he could have delivered it a little bit smoother. Like the scene with Winston, when we first saw the glass area. Right. Right? When they had their conversation. For me, Winston delivered his lines so smooth. and so powerful. And I felt like John Wick was almost, that was the part that I wish was stronger because I felt like he kind of was like, it wasn't fluid and as confident and smooth as it should
Starting point is 00:03:40 have been, almost like he was kind of like looking for his lines. Now, I will say this, as much as I love Holly Berry, I felt like she kind of stood out like a sore thumb in this film. She was awesome. Her character's great, but I felt like she kind of almost didn't belong. I don't know if you felt that, but for me, I wish that that role was almost a unknown character, only because I feel like, I feel like all the other characters are so known and, like, powerful, but I just felt like she didn't necessarily, I love her to death, huge fan. I just felt like she didn't belong in this film. That's fair. I feel like she kind of stood out. Like, she was almost like not rugged enough or like, I think, you know, I think her performance was incredible. A hundred percent. I think potentially what you might
Starting point is 00:04:24 be feeling is her fights felt a little less clean than everybody else. I almost wish that that was Ruby Rose's role. Honestly, I feel like Ruby Rose would have filled that slot a little bit better than she and would have been utilized better than she was in the second one. Right. I don't know. I think it may be from the fact that like Hallie Berry, her era as like a big action lead was. I mean, she's amazing in action.
Starting point is 00:04:52 She's stunning. She's great. But it was like pre, there's like, there's kind of like two sort of eras of action. There's pre-John Wick and then there's post-John Wick. Yes. And the reason why I say that is after John Wick really revolutionized the way action movies and fight scenes were done, every other action movie since then has tried to emulate that in one way or another to varying degrees of success, right?
Starting point is 00:05:13 So Hallie Berry comes from like the kind of bigger over-the-top action sequences of like the pre-Johnwick era. and then she's been slotted into these really tight, high intensity, tight choreography action pieces that I think just like she was playing catch up a little bit. Yes, but I also feel like she's so striking and she's, but she also is like, I feel like when I think of Holly Berry, I just think of superhero as well. So for me, I'm like, she doesn't belong here. Yeah, I get it. It's not like it's not like gritty action. Exactly.
Starting point is 00:05:46 Like she wasn't. Super action. She was, yeah, I just, I feel like we kind of miss that that. that role right there although I did love Oh Jerome Flynn Yeah yeah as the coin maker or whatever Loved him
Starting point is 00:05:58 I wish we had more of him honestly He was great To play off of Winston I almost wish they're Because I feel like they compliment Each other very well Where they feel like they're almost in the same realm But also if I wish they almost
Starting point is 00:06:12 Had something to do with each other In some shape of form Right And have like a little rivalry But like a I don't know I don't know I like the Japanese
Starting point is 00:06:20 Right, you wanted to see more. Oh, my gosh. I love the sort of like development of every group's fighting style in a lot of ways. And the use of like the clever camera trickery and things like that to make the guys like appear and disappear and like have them come out of shadows was so cool. It was like such a like nice little character piece that really distinguished Zero and all of his men from like the rest of the assassins in like all three of the movies. Like, they had a really, really distinctive style as a group.
Starting point is 00:06:52 And I think that was a really nice, like, character-defining thing that they did. Yeah. I loved Zero. I loved his people. Right. The only thing I didn't like was I didn't like the scene where they let him go and then they're, like, giving him. Because I felt like that made our John Wick look weak. And I feel like with all the stories, people keep telling.
Starting point is 00:07:12 I almost feel like John Wick isn't as intense and scary as they make him sound to be. Right. I'm hoping in the next. next one. John Wick's so mad that he's like and he unleashes the the little demon in him that we're like, that's the scary guy we were talking about, that's the scary guy that
Starting point is 00:07:28 we keep being told about because I do feel like his character doesn't seem as strong as everybody's making him sound to be. I don't know if that, I don't know if people go that way or not. I'd say in defense of that, stories about
Starting point is 00:07:45 a person and legends are often inflated. And I know we had The second one, he was like, the stories have been watered down. But I think there's an argument that, like, everybody has this reverence for John Wick. And he's been out of the game for five years. So he's a little out of practice. But also, he's a dude. Like, he's a dude that in a lot of ways has the benefit of luck on his side in a really major way.
Starting point is 00:08:06 And he's also highly skilled. But I think that, like, those moments and him taking hits and things like that and coming away from fights beaten up is just, like, a testament to who he is. also shows that, like, he is human. But I still don't think that those two, the two Japanese guys should have been like, oh, because they could have wiped him out right there. And then it's like the fact that he sits there and then defeats them later, I feel like they had an upper hand on zero. Right.
Starting point is 00:08:34 Okay? And zero is supposed to be more skilled than his men and, you know, his students. Right. And so the fact that they got closer to killing him than zeroed in, I didn't like that. That's fair. I didn't like that. I don't think it should have been that easy. I think it should have been like,
Starting point is 00:08:51 and then it should have been like, wow, it's an honorable. Yeah, yeah. You know, but they still get their butt-wop, but they're also like, wow, that was pretty cool. We, you know, put a fight. We got to fight John Wick. Versus like, let me help you up. Like, I almost wish that it was the other way around
Starting point is 00:09:04 where John Wick was like, hey, let me help you up because they helped him out earlier. And it's like, huh. And then they were like, no. I wish it was the other way around. I can see it. Yeah, it's not my favorite fight. Because otherwise,
Starting point is 00:09:15 John Wick should have been eliminated already. Yeah. And so that's just kind of like, okay. Deu Sex Machina in that way does feel like a little bit cheapening. And I definitely see what you're saying. It was a really cool fight, but you're right. The fact that they were just like, all right, we're going to let you up now. Even though we got the drop on you.
Starting point is 00:09:30 But they did it several times. Yeah, multiple times. Just kidding, John Wick. Ha, ha. And it's like, no, man, this man is to be feared. This man is like the boogeyman killer. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:09:41 I understand the attempt to like create a little levity with these two characters in that capacity, which is maybe what they were going for. But you're right. They could have swapped it. Realistically, realistically, that fight should have been like over like that. Why would you give you, why would you, like, when you know you have, there's no way in hell, you have a man like John Wick. And you have him and you're going to let him get up. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:03 There's no way. That's just, to me, I'm like, I didn't like that. Yeah, I get it. I think that was a bad move in the storytelling. Other than that, I absolutely loved this one. I thought it was, I thought it was so fun. I loved the director, the woman where, you know, Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Starting point is 00:10:18 Love her. She was great. She was great. She's always powerful in films, but I loved her role, and I want more of her. She was really good. Well, she didn't die, so, I mean, like, we might get more. I think we have to. Now that we're going to war, because we got the Bowery King.
Starting point is 00:10:33 And I, you know what? We might have the director. Everybody's going to be able to come back home. Everybody's coming back. And it's going to be a war. It's going to be absolutely insane. I didn't love the... Oh, the adjudicator?
Starting point is 00:10:44 Yes. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I was like, I don't know how to say adjudicator. That adjudicator What I liked about her Was she did stand out from everybody Not in the way that Holly Berry stood out to me Okay
Starting point is 00:10:55 She still blended but she she came in with this Okay she's from another Poor of this world Which makes sense Right Right and she's untouchable And I didn't mind that she stood out It was like it was needed
Starting point is 00:11:10 Because she gave me Yes but she also gave me that five of Oh Oh watch out you know where holly barrow was like you don't belong in this film right right right right to me i i i i think adding this girl in there was absolutely brilliant i think that you know the hierarchy and all that stuff bringing that into into play was great i loved i don't want to forget the doctor the doctor right at the beginning i tell you what he's a he's a badass i feel like
Starting point is 00:11:40 a lot of people he's a badass i don't want to forget him because he is a badass and i love the fact that he stops, but he's like, hey, let's be real. I love the realness of that moment. And he's like, here, here, all right, you're good. Love you, dude. Godspeed. Get out of here. Like, to me, I'm like, yes.
Starting point is 00:11:59 I do love it because, like, it's so in- With, like, doctors and the idea that, like, you swear an oath to do no harm. Yes. Like, he's still like, I need to do everything in my power to get you out of here, even if it means, like, spending goals a little bit. You know? And so, like, I really do. do like that. The dog. Let's talk about that dog shot. Okay. Mr. Derek, sir, you would just
Starting point is 00:12:25 keep screwing with the dogs, man. Like, you don't know how to let it go. And it's almost like a joke, like, ha ha, got you guys. Like, at this point, he's already toying with people. He doesn't care that he killed the dog in the first. No, he doesn't. In the first, uh, he had zero remorse. He's like, you know what? I love to be hated because I did my job because I made you feel some type of way. And let's bring it back like and, like, like, like, hi. You know what I mean? As much as I hate to give him an applause for that. Good for you, Derek.
Starting point is 00:12:52 Way to go. Way to like take the hate that people have for you from part one. It's been every movie. It's so angry. It has been every movie. Good for you. I like his sense of humor. It's dark as dirty.
Starting point is 00:13:05 You're, you're toying with our hearts and our emotions. Good for you to take that and run with it. Yep. That, my sir. Sir, Derek. but also also we don't fight yes but I respect it
Starting point is 00:13:22 I respect him taking that and running with it as fast as he can and it's almost comical because he you know he's toying with us yep he's going out of his way and you know he got backlash for the part one yeah for part one you know a lot of people were hating on him
Starting point is 00:13:38 and just destroying him and he's like you know what jokes on you let's play this game and I like that because it's a chess game and I feel like the third one your third, like chapter three was just absolutely outstanding. Now, I will say this. I think that chapter two and chapter one was actually filmed as
Starting point is 00:13:54 one. Yeah. And they cut it because it was too long. I don't think there was, it was originally supposed to be a chapter three. I think it was supposed to be one and then they got so into it. It started getting better. And then they were like, ooh, we kind of made this a little bit too long. And that's why
Starting point is 00:14:10 part two fell so short. Okay. And that's what I'm going to give them. I'm going to give them that I think part two kind of fell a little like short due to the fact that they had part three and they just wanted to add all this so much into it all at once and didn't know what to cut because it was so great that it turned into chapter two and three I do believe that that's my thought that I'm just sorry that I think that they did that all as like one one shoot and then they're like you know what we're going to take a loss here but it's so good that you know like the work's great we might fall short
Starting point is 00:14:45 but we're going to pick it up in Chapter 3 and make a comeback. And I think they executed that very well. So it makes me kind of not necessarily like hate Chapter 2 as much. Right. Chapter 2 is a stepping stone. Yes. It is a stepping stone. I mean, it's still not my favorite.
Starting point is 00:15:02 You know, I... Right. I mean, the stepping stone doesn't have to be your favorite. It doesn't have to, like, justify the movie to you. But like, I think you're right in the fact that one way or another, chapter 2 really was more of a setup for three and beyond. than like a good condensed thing. Yes.
Starting point is 00:15:20 So I think, yeah, I'm inclined to agree that like chapter two largely exists because chapter three was going to be good. Yeah, I'm ready for this war. That's about to break down. Me too. I'm ready for the allies. Winston.
Starting point is 00:15:35 I think Winston's playing like 5D chess and we're all playing checkers. No, he's playing chess. 100% he's playing chess. They made that very clear, which I like. You're right. They made that very clear. And it's interesting because a low-key, I think John Wick understands, but he also, I think Winston knew John Wick needed to get beyond pissed to make New York stronger than what they could have made it with him being Mopey.
Starting point is 00:16:05 Like he was like, let me bring you back. With him focus on getting out, he's not going to go after the table or anything. Exactly. Yeah. And so now I feel like also I loved that mind twist. you know, where he's like, all right, what kind of man do you want? You know, I'm like, well, play, sir, well played, because that's another chess move. And Winston, I'm a huge fan of you, and I'm a very huge fan of our desk man.
Starting point is 00:16:29 Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. I'm like, I love him. I think they're, like, great soundtrack, everything. You already know soundtrack, everything's fire. You know, the filming's fire. You know, the shots are off, like, epic, the set design, everything. I got nothing, I don't know, is there anything else you want to add? I feel like I'm becoming redundant here.
Starting point is 00:16:46 All of those bullet points, I think it's definitely a step up from the second one and an excellent installment. And I'm excited to see where we go from here into Chapter 4.
