Starting point is 00:00:27 Funds in the cash account are swept to partner banks where they earn the variable API. Sina. Pals. What's up everybody? It's Chris Stavis Pino, joined by Michael Boost, and we are back with the You Know What. Planet of the Apes is the Kingdom of the Apes, okay? The Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes! Bonus X-ray edition, okay? We're back with the Apes. We're here. We're ready for the emotional roller coaster. Bring it on. Looks like humanity. The world's going to go back to...
Starting point is 00:01:04 We're going to go backwards. We're going to go back to war. Surprise, it's war too. Yep. Well, that was great. Phenomenal. I think that was an excellent new installment. Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:01:18 It's new. It's fresh. It's different. I like that the roles were like kind of reverse. Uh-huh. I agree. Man, I really wanted it with everything in me for that. to be our dude.
Starting point is 00:01:31 Nope, wasn't him. I know, but you know what's so funny? The fact that you and I, like, you said you gave up hope, and then at the last second, you sat there, you believed just as hard as I did. They really were like, and then we blew it. Oh. And we were like, ugh. I can't believe.
Starting point is 00:01:47 I can't wait to watch playback on that moment. I cannot wait to watch the return. And we were so disappointed. Like the disappointment was so real. This is just dropped. Oh, my God. I was so excited. Me too.
Starting point is 00:02:02 And I was amped. I was like, rock, I made it. Yeah. There was no way. We were scrimny, too. We're like, and then we're like, ugh. I'm not going to lie. I will have to definitely get to that point and watch for our face expressions on that one, because that was rough.
Starting point is 00:02:19 That was rough. But this whole world, ape against ape. I know. I mean, obviously, we saw that was kind of going to come because we did have those moments. I mean, like, but. Just even in the original trilogy, with Koba and him uprising against the humans, like, you know, inevitably that superior intelligence and fighting for your own survival or fighting for your place on the planet really does lend itself to, you know, animosity and trying to be superior than the other. And, you know, we can see that here in the world where people across the globe, we are all human. this. We're all human. We're all the same. And yet somehow we believe that other people on a different section of the planet are inferior to us.
Starting point is 00:03:07 Yes. And honestly, like, I would like to believe in world peace. Me too. However, I do not feel that is something that will ever be a reality only due to the, due to the fact that, you know, even here, like even with the apes, it's all about power. It's all about control. It's all about being the hierarchy or whatever, you know, like having, you know what I mean? Like, and it's like, I agree. And I enjoy the study. Yes. Like, it's the sociology study that we're getting through these movies. It's really a glimpse into how a societal belief system, which is what Caesar set up in the first three films, can be corrupted and perverted over time and over generations and over generations of teaching it. Like, you know, Raqa was the last very very.
Starting point is 00:03:57 vestige of teaching Caesar's ways as he believed them. And they did a really good job of even showing that even he did not understand the teachings totally. He's like, I don't know why we call the humans novas. We just named them all. We just did. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:12 And so there's a certain degree of like through the generation. I know how our stories. Oh, it's so sad to think that, right? Yeah. Yeah. It's like you go, you come so far. Only for time to pass by for us to forget the history and where we come. come from only to repeat ourselves again. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:30 And that's the part that's so, it's so frustrating because you would think. It's like, oh, we learn from this. But, you know, new generations come and you have that fresh new blood of, well, what else is there? Well, maybe you're wrong. And you want to test these theories. You want to test what you've been told and what you've learned because it's curiosity. And I really, the message, I think, at the end, I think they did a really, really beautiful
Starting point is 00:04:53 job because, like, at the outset, we're sitting here hoping for Noah to become the next Caesar, right? We're hoping Noah is like, no, humans can live together. Yes. We can coexist. We can find a nicer way of living. And I think it's a really beautiful ending moment where Noah goes, you know what? For all of his horror, Caesar was right.
Starting point is 00:05:12 Humans will not stop. And we've seen that time and again in these films. And like that is the core moral of these films is that like we as humans just will not let go of what we think is ours. Yes. And so. And he was like, I like the part where he's like, where's their room for apes, you know, like, where's their room for anything else? Yeah, are we going to be silent? Are we just going to like step back? Do you expect us to step back? Which is interesting. Which is interesting because in this one, the humans, novas, like, you know, like they were the ones who were silent.
Starting point is 00:05:43 Yeah. They were the ones who were taught. It's like they got a little taste of their own medicine. And yet they're still like, nah, we're coming back. We're still coming back. And her crying when they, when they meet the echoes, I guess. I guess we'll differentiate between the humans and the echoes, right? When they meet that herd of echoes, May starts crying. Yes. Because she's crying for what she perceives as a loss of humanity, as something lesser. And she's crying of like, oh, these poor humans have suffered in their fate, right?
Starting point is 00:06:16 When potentially, I mean, when they're not being herded and hunted by, like, Proximus's apes, they're living a more fulfilled life. like a, a simple humanity. You know, they're fighting for something. But she also doesn't, but also she doesn't understand that either, though. No, she doesn't. Because she believes that they're above and better than the aides and the animals and whatever. And they deserve to take the world back purely because it was theirs beforehand and they lost it. But was it?
Starting point is 00:06:48 But was it? That's the real question. The question is like, is the Earth's ours or do we have a responsibility as stewards to make it as populist or as, much of a place for all creatures and all things. I really love the Planet of the Apes because I feel like they do a very good job at teaching us and showing us the world we live in today from another perspective. Absolutely. Right?
Starting point is 00:07:09 And it's like, and it's done so well. And so it's very clever because when we're looking at and we're like, you know, some people might think, oh, I'm just getting like animals and humans. It's like, no, no, no, buddy. We're telling a bigger story here. Take it in. Yes. Take it in.
Starting point is 00:07:24 We're just switching up the character some. It is an allegory disguised as something else. It's like in Shakespeare's Times, and I might have talked about this when we were watching the original films. In Shakespeare's Times, when Shakespeare wanted to make a political commentary play, he said it in Denmark, he said it in Italy, and then just made them do funny things that were actively happening in England's government. This is exactly what we're doing.
Starting point is 00:07:48 We are watching an allegory of the human experience, but we're less uncomfortable with it when it's seen through the guys, oh, these are ape. This is a existence that could not happen. It's almost like you're planning that seed to make yourself think and take it for what it is without getting like overly offended or taking it, you know, some type of way. Ultimately, isn't that what films are? Yeah, that's basically what film. That's not what they are. That's what storytelling is.
Starting point is 00:08:13 I just think it's very interesting. I'm liking the, yo, tag you're it. Tag you're it. It's like it's a never-ending, revolving circle of life full of bullshit. over and over and over again. And it's like so frustrating because even in today's world, with all the bullshit that's going down in the world, how many times do you have these thoughts?
Starting point is 00:08:35 Like, come on, haven't we learned from the... Gee, this sounds a lot like something I learned back in school and history. How come we're still here? And it's just, I feel like it's something where you just can't get away from. So I love that ending. He asks, do you think we'll ever come together as one? And she's like, I don't know. And just like even...
Starting point is 00:08:54 And the quick cut to her holding. the revolver behind her back too. Like, like, it says it all. It's so good. It does say it all. And yet she's like, I don't know. Yeah. You know what I mean?
Starting point is 00:09:05 But it's like, you're torn because you're, she's like, I want to. But at the same time, I don't think it's going to happen. Yeah. And I got to stick with my own kind. There's that line where sometimes you're like, yo, I like you, this and that. And then people choose in general, like we sometimes, even if we don't have a beef with somebody or whatever, there's sometimes you get. put in those positions where you're like, I got to choose my alliance. Yeah. I got to stay with my own kind or you're like, I got to, I, you know, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:09:35 I think it, I think it was really beautifully done. It was. Excellent commentary. And I'm curious to see if there are sequels to this one. I hope so. If we're looking at the start of a new, like, additional trilogy. I really hope we are because even though I feel like it might still go in the same, like, you know, it's going to be kind of similar. Similar beats.
Starting point is 00:09:54 The way they did this one, even the others, right? I feel like every time we watch it, it's still so fresh and new, even though it's like the same idea. We're still learning from it and we're enjoying it, but we're also like hurting for each and every character, you know what I mean? Right, yeah. I thought this was a very well-done film. Yeah, I think it's an excellent additional installment to what is already a really excellent trilogy, and I'm curious to see where they keep going if we continue getting storylines from here or if we continue kind of seeing the progression of the planet of the apes over generations. I'm curious to see where things go, but this was great.
