Starting point is 00:00:00 We're watching Bitch Perfect 2. Welcome to our return to this journey of the pitchs. Okay, here we go. Behold! Oh! Now I'm ready to move on. Legacy, you're up. All right, I'm ready. Let's do this.
Starting point is 00:00:28 Oh, we missed it. Oh, we missed it. Ah, I was hoping we would see it. I think it's so funny that earlier, like, they came out, the German group came out singing, and they were singing with the German accent. I was laughing. And you're like, what's funny? I don't understand because you probably don't even hear the accent.
Starting point is 00:00:44 Every time Kristen speaks or listens, she's processing three different languages. She goes from German to Japanese to English and then back. I'm always like, hmm. You're right. That's probably like, I. That's why I was laughing. I'm like this. Well, how'd you feel about it?
Starting point is 00:01:00 I liked it. Like, I liked it. I don't know. Like, I didn't think, like, you know, like, sometimes when you see the part two, it's the things, you're like, I didn't really like it, or you're like, I like the first one better. Honestly, like, I don't think there's one I like more than the other. I mean, I really like the first one, but I actually really liked this one, too.
Starting point is 00:01:19 Yeah. I liked it a lot more than I thought I was going to like it. I thought it was a good follow-up. It surprised me insofar as it didn't feel like. It was retreading ground too much, if at all. Like, it just felt like a new adventure. This is very interesting because it's our second sequel that we're watching today. But I enjoyed this.
Starting point is 00:01:39 I don't know which one I enjoyed more. The German group made this so much fun for me, especially when they were singing muse. But, yeah, overall, it was a fun romp. It is. I maybe liked the first one more slightly, but it's just because it was my first experience with, you know, this world and whatnot. I thought it was fun. I like that it didn't feel redundant. It felt fresh.
Starting point is 00:02:02 It felt new. And it was still, it still made me giggle. It's still rooting for him. I want to know if that was the same actress from the first movie. I don't think it is. You're convinced it's not. That's the same girl.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Is it? Yes. And the second one? Yes. Are you sure? Yes. I'm looking at it right now. It's Alexis Knapp in Baltimore.
Starting point is 00:02:19 Why does she looks so different? She doesn't actually. She looks the same. She didn't look the same to me. Okay. Well, anyway. And I feel like they would have utilized her more if it. Well, I'm wondering why.
Starting point is 00:02:29 There's got to be some drama behind the scenes. Like, maybe she had more lines and they just cut her out. Like, it's just so bizarre because she was there the whole film. Maybe she graduated. Maybe she wasn't. And she had all of like three lines in the entire film. I wanted more of her. Like, it was just like a little bit awkward that she's just there as,
Starting point is 00:02:46 she was a glorified extra for most of the movie. But anywho, it was actually pretty cool how they were able to find a new adventure for these girls that made it feel fresh like basically what you said a moment ago and the music was fun the dancing was fun I think that's what I liked more in the first film the only thing I liked more here
Starting point is 00:03:07 was the antagonists, the Germans they were such a fun antagonistic group I think the first one was definitely a lot more funny this one was funny but it wasn't like the first one funny this one I think the commentators I agree with you except for the Germans
Starting point is 00:03:23 the Germans Insane in the membrane commentators on this one were extra wild I'm like damn they're going for it yeah I'm kind of here for it yeah yeah I mean obviously you know the the first one is like I said
Starting point is 00:03:39 earlier it's like it's the first one and so everything is new and whatever and so yeah to follow that up is quite a challenge but I think that with the task in front of them you know to to follow up a very successful film and try to give the audience something new but familiar at the same
Starting point is 00:03:57 time that they they destroyed their goal like they did they did a great job in that regard obviously some of the characters like the one we just pointed out took a back seat and that was kind of annoying a little bit you know it's like in the first movie you spend a lot of time developing Becca's relationship with Benji right not Benji oh you're Jesse Jesse yes and like and so he was there but it's just like there's nothing new to really explore with him yeah and so he he took a I thought it was cool, you know, the little thing developing here with Haley Steinfield and Benji in this film.
Starting point is 00:04:34 He had that, like, perfect amount of awkward. You know what I mean? Where he's like, he's so genuine. It's like it borders on caricature. The actor is Ben Platt. Like, it's almost, almost too much. But he does such a great job of pulling it back. I mean, maybe it was with the help of the director.
Starting point is 00:04:51 But, like, it was so believable as this just awkward, clunky dude who's so in love this girl and it's one of those things where all the awkward guys in the audience can feel seen like myself you guys like the scene when he kisses her he's like I thought that was gonna go a different way that was I think we all did I think we all did and the moment he did that was like I forgot you do this shit yeah exactly what got you though was his little at the pool when she rejected him and he does this little magic smoke thing so the little Asian time traveling chick i you know i would love to maybe maybe it's best that she just stays an enigma you know what i mean like maybe that's for the best because that just a lot more and more
Starting point is 00:05:40 random stuff just kind of comes from her yeah uh but i'm just so like curious where the hell did you come from it almost reminds me of kimiko from from the boys it's like who is that i mean well we've gotten more of kimiko in recent episodes but like in this film i like i i know about as much about her now as I did in the first movie, you know? That has not, my horizon with her has not been broadened at all. So, but like, maybe that's for the best. What's the name of the mom again? Yes.
Starting point is 00:06:09 Okay, it is her. So she played, she played Al Bundy's wife on Married with Children. I was like, because I'm looking at her, I'm like, is that, is that her? Is that Peggy? And it's like, if that's Peggy, that's also what's her name from Futurama, but she looks different. And she looks so different to me because she doesn't. have that full like because you can see here like the big hair like she looks totally
Starting point is 00:06:31 different but I was like convinced it was her but I was too afraid to say anything out loud because I didn't want to look stupid so but I'm like oh that's cool to see her again you know and she had her own little singing thing going on in the movie I don't know if that was her actual voice but yeah that like while we didn't get too much of her what she brought to the film was fun it was adorable you know the way she loves her daughter and just you know is excited for her daughter's journey into what is it called coming of age okay how did you feel about the music okay i was going to ask you that but then i was like you know i'm going to stick on a positive i think in part one they had stronger music choices and i felt like the ones on this one
Starting point is 00:07:09 i wasn't like i liked the music but i feel like there's so many better like like the first one they they just threw all the bangers you know like solid music where this one i felt like it was a little bit too predictable for some of them for me. Hmm. Interesting. Interesting choice of words. I don't know what informs the music choices. It's by universal. It's by universal and universal owns universal records, right? And so they have a whole library of songs to choose from. So it does make me wonder like, okay, what informed the decisions that went into this film? Yeah. But, you know, I will agree with you. I think that
Starting point is 00:07:41 the, here's the thing that kind of, I'm trying to figure out how to articulate this thought, because I am not a music. I'm not a music person. I don't know how to like, But in the first film, it felt more like acapella, I guess, is the easiest way to put it. You know, whereas here it became more of a cacophony of noises. And I was like listening from like, is that all mouth stuff? It was a lot of techno feeling. Yeah. Well, the techno feeling stuff was kind of cool with the Germans.
Starting point is 00:08:10 I mean, I liked it. I'm not going to want. Insane, insin membrane. But I think you're right. And the first one, it was more acapella where like this one didn't feel as acapella. Yeah, exactly. And, um, it just felt more like singing. Yes.
Starting point is 00:08:25 But I think they merged the songs very well like they did in the first one. Yeah. I just wish they had, I don't know, I didn't, I felt like the song choices were a little bit weaker than the first one. Yeah, we established that. Well, I'm just saying because in the first one I was like, ah, right? And then this one I had it, I was like, I liked him. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:42 But I was like, ah. It was getting you head bopping a little bit and singing a little bit. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah. Yeah. I thought Haley Steinfeld was a great addition to the film. I had no idea she was in this I've only like honestly recently
Starting point is 00:08:53 discovered her in the last four years or something like that off of Bumblebee the Transformers film and of course the Marvel show that you have not seen I'm gonna get roasted in the comments for this fuck her thing no I got to remember this
Starting point is 00:09:11 I keep wanting to say green arrow and that's totally the wrong thing it's wrong it's just wrong it's Jeremy Renner's show and I can't remember the name of his character. Freaking A. Okay. Jeremy Renner.
Starting point is 00:09:24 Haley Steinfield. Hawkeye. I could not remember it for the life of me. I'm just like, what was his character's name? Let me have it in the comments. That's fine. I couldn't remember Hawkeye. I should know that.
Starting point is 00:09:34 I should know that like the back of my hand, but I didn't. Anyway, so yeah, I saw her in Bumblebee and I saw her in Hawkeye. And I just, like, I thought she was awesome. You know, she just, she made both of those work very, very well. And to see her here, even though it was more of a supporting role, I was like, dang, She's just so she's always dope Every time I watch her So that made me happy
Starting point is 00:09:52 Oh my gosh Elizabeth Banks Is the director I think she's the lady Who's one of the Speakers for the One of the critics who's talking Like she you know the guy The dude who's like dropping all those insults
Starting point is 00:10:05 And stuff like that Yes That's her Yes I know Oh I didn't know that How did you not know that I'm sorry Now what I knew
Starting point is 00:10:12 Yes Adam Devine I enjoyed him more in this film That I did in the first film Because like I wanted him more in this film. Well, what he brought to the table, I appreciated. You know, because in the first movie, I don't remember exactly what my take on him was.
Starting point is 00:10:27 I just, like, when I saw him, I just, whenever I generally see him in stuff, I don't, I don't get excited. Yeah. Right? But this is one of the first instances I can think of where I'm like, oh, I actually, like, really enjoyed his character and his performance as that character. The only thing I didn't really care for, honestly, was, and please people don't get mad about it. It's just an opinion. And the only thing I didn't care for was his bit in the after, in the post credits when he was singing. I've, yeah, I didn't care.
Starting point is 00:10:52 I was just like, this is a lot. But I'm actually, um, I liked him in the first one and I like him in this one. I was actually kind of bummed out when we were watching it because I was like, damn, they didn't bring him back for this one. And then they did. And I was, that made me feel, I normally don't like him in anything. I don't, I don't know. Okay. You know, but this one I was like, please have him.
Starting point is 00:11:13 Please bring him in. And so when they did, I got excited. I actually wouldn't have mind having more of him. I think he was hilarious in the first one. And I enjoyed him in this one too, but I wanted more of him. Okay, you guys, I enjoyed this, and I'm looking forward to Pitch Perfect 30.
Starting point is 00:11:31 And hopefully you are too. So that's it for now. I'm Jabby Kui. This is Kristen Steffin Spino. Peace out.
