Starting point is 00:00:00 Senna. Pals! We are back and ready to get started with the Planet of the Apes. I believe it's rise of the planet of the Apes. Oh, anyways, let's get started. Surprise! It's a contagion movie. It's a pandemic movie.
Starting point is 00:00:16 I didn't realize, but it is. You know? That was the entire premise. You didn't have to break my heart so much in the process of doing that. Now, do you think the virus can infect, like, re-infect apes as well? No. Idea is that the virus increases their cognitive function, but it does something else to humans, it seems,
Starting point is 00:00:36 or like it melts their brain or I don't know what. We don't know what it does yet. We don't know what it does yet, right? So I'm wondering if it's purely blood-borne now or if it's also airborne or how the pathogen spreads and if it's spread into the monkeys or the apes, and then also it's genetically passed down. So, like, that's, do you think, like, the brain failures of humans
Starting point is 00:00:58 is genetically passed down as well once the virus is inside them? I mean, I realize this is like, you know, the rise of the planet of the apes, and if you're familiar at all with the story of the planet of the apes, eventually Earth is taken over by a species of sentient apes. So, like, obviously that's what's going to happen,
Starting point is 00:01:16 but I'm just curious if, like, the disease fully wipes out humanity as well. But anyway, how you feeling? How you doing? That was a rough film. Yeah. They really, like, they really, like, they really were like all right you know who really hates watching animals suffer on screen
Starting point is 00:01:32 Kristen you know what there's a lot of in this movie animals suffering on screen you know you know what she's gonna do we're less like they were like let's find a film that she's gonna cry the entire thing thank you michael for holding down the fort continuing on as i broke down tears the show must go on And you know what, you did your job. I can't tell you. I don't know how much I did on this side, but.
Starting point is 00:02:07 You know what? You provided good emotional catharsis. The viewers at home, they had someone to cry with. No, you know, they're going to do this. It's going to be like, Michael. Yeah, and then did it at Kristen. Michael, yeah, and you know, did it, Kristen. Like, back and forth.
Starting point is 00:02:25 That's all it's going to be. There's going to be. Zero dialogue from me. It would be zero. What's so much? Well, I mean, at least you know it got an incredible review. You know, it's talking about, like, the emotional weight of the story and the writing. And, like, kudos to A, the movement actors.
Starting point is 00:02:50 I mean, Andy Circus is incredible. You know, so the CGI on it was phenomenal, but like. phenomenal. There were some parts where I was like, oh, there it is. But then for the most part, I totally, I'm like, it was so real. Yeah. Yes. Right?
Starting point is 00:03:07 Absolutely. The visual effects were astounding. And like every single one of the apes looked so realistic. I mean, the, what's it? The orangutang, largely, especially when he was in his enclosure and things like that, looked spectacular. There were a lot of close-ups on Caesar. And obviously, you can kind of see the CGI in like the eyes. And like, once you get close enough to see.
Starting point is 00:03:26 CGI asset. It's pretty easy to determine. But still, like, within the world and in some of the longer shots and everything like that, they look like real apes. And I don't know how much of that was like supplemented with practical effects. I'd be curious to do the research and things like that, because I know a lot of it was mocap. But I'd be curious as to how much of that was also assisted by practical effects and things like that because they looked stunning. It looked good. And the storyline was solid as well. Do I like it? No. But did I, can I appreciate it for what it is? Yes.
Starting point is 00:04:00 It's a good story. Yeah. And I think, like, for me, it's like, ugh, the hard story. Like, anything that loves something, okay? Like, that's where I die. Right. I get destroyed because you have this baby. And then, hold on.
Starting point is 00:04:20 I get what you mean. No, you know what I mean? Like, you have this baby, you raise, and it's never seen evil in its life. And then one little thing happened because he was trying to protect you. And then all of a sudden somebody just so cruel. And I'm like, I cannot. Yeah. I can't take it anymore.
Starting point is 00:04:36 Yeah. Like, I don't understand that mentality, no matter, like, how hard I try to understand people who are just effed up in the head and are evil. And it drives me crazy. I'm like, dude, do you guys not have a conscience? Do you not have empathy? Do you not have I am like, oh, you know what? There's a sick satisfaction in having power over. Everything everywhere.
Starting point is 00:04:59 My makeup, I'm done. I just want to wipe my whole eye. It's probably already smeared, isn't it? No, you're actually looking pretty good. Like minimal raccoon eye, right guys? Right? She's good to go. What mascara are you using?
Starting point is 00:05:11 I gotta know. I don't know, but it's coming off. It's coming off on the tissue, but it's not running. No? No, you're great. It was not waterproof, that's for sure. More waterproof than you gave it credit for. Oh, my God.
Starting point is 00:05:22 I agree. I think the storyline and the character characterization of this was really cool. The actress was insane too. Oh my gosh, yeah. The acting incredible. Oh, yeah. They're really good.
Starting point is 00:05:32 I will say, you know, I didn't. The music was great. Phenomenal. Honestly, I, this, this film was on point. It was. It was. And I think, I think your tears are a testament to that because a film that's done poorly or a story that is done poorly does not get that kind
Starting point is 00:05:48 of waterwork. Sex. But I mean, they had you from the get-in- I know. What the f- Like, it was like, it was like, minute one, the time. the tears started and they didn't stop. That's how you know it's a good story.
Starting point is 00:06:00 I could not stop crying to save my life. And I think that's the power of the empathy of this film. And again, like the great job they did with the characterization and the direction and the story. Like, they really get you rooting for Caesar and like in line with Caesar's plight. You know, they do a lot to make Caesar and the rest of the apes very, very sympathetic. And so you're rooting for them. to, like, escape and to get smarter and to break out. But then you're also like, stay good, stay good, stay good.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Like, for me, I'm like, don't give them a reason to kill you. Don't give them any reason to, like, you know what I mean? Even though, like, humans and scientists, they're just kind of like nasty in general. And so every time something's happening, I'm like, oh, great, oh, great, oh, great. But we have a reason. But you won't understand that because you're thinking as a human, you're like, oh, well, they're just, they're just apes and creatures. and it's like, they have feelings too.
Starting point is 00:06:55 Yeah, yeah, absolutely. Like, they're love bugs, man. They just want to love. They just want to love you. They just want to be together. If you're good to anything, I'm a strongly run list, okay? If you're good to anything, it will be good to you, and it will love you and adore you. And here's the, I have, I've had cockatoots, I had parakeets.
Starting point is 00:07:15 I've had cats, dogs, chicks, all sleep together, okay, in my home. I have my dog that chases my emu. My emu chases my dog and they play tag and they love each other. Whoa, whoa, whoa, back it up. You have an emu? I have an emu. I'll send the video in. Please do.
Starting point is 00:07:34 And it chases my dog and my dog chases. So they play tag in my mom's yard. Uh-huh. And the emu sleeps with the duck. Okay. So I sit there and I'm like, okay, all these animals should not be friends. First off, they should not love each other or like each other. And here they are all together.
Starting point is 00:07:49 But I think it's like whatever you put out. And I think, I don't know, people were always like, how'd you do that? I was like, I don't know. I just was like, I love you, I love you. And I'm like, I don't know. It just happens. Like, and I'm like, I think if you're just, if you love something and all you show it is pure love, that is what it will give you. Like my German Shepherd, people are terrified of him because he's huge.
Starting point is 00:08:11 He stands up. He's bigger than me. Right. And, um, but he's the sweetest, most angelic creature ever. And every part, I mean, he gets beat up at the dog parks. He even failed police. school because he was too nice so they failed him oh anyway so I and I'm like people sit there and they're like oh it's just a animal and I don't understand that because I'm like no you just love it
Starting point is 00:08:35 just be good to it you know nice to it love it yeah this should not happen yeah it's it's the whole nature versus nurture thing for sure yeah it's like you can tell because Caesar especially he came from a loving yes home and then he was put into the animal enclosure where he experienced like humanity's capacity for cruelty but because he was raised by a caring, nurturing home, he wanted to rise above the violence that
Starting point is 00:09:02 humans were capable of, which is why he made such an effort to make sure that the chimps that were maybe going a little too far or the apes that were maybe going a little too far were rained in. He didn't let Buck, the gorilla Yeah, he kept it under control and man, when he looked at, you know he wanted to go home.
Starting point is 00:09:18 Yeah, oh, immediately. And he looked at everybody and he chose, it was It was cool to see him grow, and he was, like, evolving to be, like, wiser and older, you know? Almost like, and I'm just like, the little babies growing up, but, like, come home to me. You know, like, oh, anyways, you guys, we just got the look.
