Senna.
Pal!
It's Baseballs! You guys, we're watching the movie.
Just found out this is directed by Mel Brooks.
Oh my God, I can't believe I haven't seen this yet.
We're going to check this out together.
First time watch, Steph and I.
Strap in, everyone. Here we go.
Aw, may take the Winnebago.
May the Schwartz be with you.
And also with you.
All right.
Well, I feel like they definitely, it's very lovingly done, right?
But like pointing out all of the kind of silliness in the franchise
and also just adding in a whole bunch of silliness as well.
Yeah.
Yeah.
And the coincidences that happen in movies, especially like Star Wars or all of these.
But they did, as a Star Wars fan, it's such a great job of, like you were saying,
not being, like, screw these movies, but just having fun with the most insane parts of the movie.
Yeah, and, like, just definitely going for that full insanity.
Like, I would say this movie is, is like the ludicrous speed that they had,
where it was like, this is just ludicrous.
Right.
This is so absurd, so silly, so out there.
But then it's also Mel Brooks, so, like, that is exactly what he does.
I know.
I was thinking about that.
I'm like, could anyone pull off this in the way that Mel Brooks does?
And is that because Mel Brooks himself is a genius and so he does it in that way?
Or is it because he's like earned that, you know, where you view his movies through a different lens.
Yeah.
This is just so great.
Exactly.
I mean, it's like, yeah, you do have to view it through a different lens because it's not a regular movie.
No.
You know, it's just like all of the tropes and all of the silliness.
I also really enjoyed how it added in other stuff from different movies,
like the reference to like aliens to Planet of the Apes, Star Trek as well.
Like I was actually surprised that, you know,
he threw in some Star Trek references too
because I feel like it's one of those things where, I don't know,
I might be wrong, but it feels like there's almost like a rivalry
between like Star Wars and Star Trek.
It's not the same thing, you know.
Yeah, which is totally not the same thing.
It's not, but, I mean, it has star in the title.
And it is in space, indeed.
Yes, yes, that's about it, you know.
So many funny jokes and just absolute insane bits where it just is like a really long S&L sketch, but with a story, too.
Yeah.
So it was a good balance in that sense.
We're watching, you know, a beginning, middle, and end, but it is just bad shit.
Like, it's so crazy.
And I wonder as well, would you be able to make a movie like this today?
You know, because I don't know who's making movies like this anymore.
I know.
I know.
I was thinking that.
It's like the one that comes to mind of like an ultimate parody is Tropic Thunder.
Right.
Right?
Yeah.
But like other than that, it's like I know that there's the scary movies.
There's like that one Twilight one.
But those scary movies had were like all the rage in the early 2000s.
I like scary movies.
Since then, it's like no one does parodies and I don't know if that's a cultural shift.
Like we're over it or it's just hard to do now.
Maybe because people are so much more sensitive these days, maybe.
Like, I don't know.
Maybe there's like IP issues of like could this even be made in last year of Mel Brooks?
Yeah.
Yeah.
But I'm glad that this is.
out there. I'm glad that this exists.
It's also interesting that, like, the alien was made by ILM, Industrial Light Magic, which
is George Lucas's, right?
I think it's ILM.
Yeah.
Which is, like, an incredible, they have a dock on Disney Plus that's so fun about them.
Yeah.
So, I mean, it seems like he would have, he would have got George Lucas's blessings anyway.
Yeah.
I hope.
I wonder.
It seems that way.
I know, I wonder.
Because it's, yeah, different producing.
obviously, but it's so fun.
It is.
It's really delightful.
Everything is just, it's delightful.
Yeah, it's just silly, silly, fun.
Check your brain at the door.
But also very like on the nose, tongue and cheek as well.
Like calling out all the stuff.
Like I died when I was like, yeah, I'm head of merchandising.
And it's like, yes, that's right.
You know how much money they made off just merchandising Star Wars stuff?
And this was like, what was this movie, 87 or something, right?
This one, Spaceball?
Yeah.
And so this isn't even, like, right now, they've made so much money out of everything.
And now I'm pretty sure when Disney puts out anything Star Wars,
they're already thinking about, like, what cute creature can we make toys of and get people to buy.
It's almost become, like, a problem.
I mean, it has become a problem in a sense.
Yeah.
I know when George Lucas, he was like one of the first creators that gone,
rights to the toys and at that point it wasn't a thing and also they didn't realize how much of a
thing it would become yeah and then they argue a lot of people i don't know if it's ever been confirmed
but originally return of the jedi was supposed to be with the wukies on kashik oh but they switched
it to the iwarks because they're more cute and sellable yeah not funny so yeah it's kind of changed
the way we create is because of merchandise.
Yeah.
And this was like you're saying in 87, which I guess they were already beginning to tell what
was going to happen.
Or comedians usually have their, like, have it on the pulse a little earlier where they
probably saw that transition.
Like they knew what was going to happen and called it out.
Yeah.
Which was great.
So, yeah, this was fun.
This was enjoyable.
I hope you guys enjoyed it as well.
Let us know your thoughts.
And we'll see you next time.
I'm a chara cook.
This is...
Step to Brow.
Ciao.
