What's going on, everybody?
We are continuing forward with the boys, season four, episode five.
Let's get into this. Here we go.
You're going to make us some more that virus.
Oh.
Do you remember how to make it?
It would be better.
My God.
They're going to make him do it like Jesse Pinkman and break him bad.
Ah, dang.
I'm really...
Woo!
Yeah.
I'm really relieved that, oh, do you want some of this?
I'm relieved that they let us have that scene because very easily it could have turned
into more violence and craziness with the mom and whatever.
Yeah.
They let us just have a moment to breathe and grieve and let go of him.
Yeah, I just kind of wish that they ended it right there
because like there was so much in terms of feeling happening there.
And then it's like, oh, and now we're back to this moment where,
we find out what happened to Samir and it's like it's butcher he's a little bit lighthearted and everything
which maybe the point is to kind of make us you can't you can't end content like this in that way
why not I don't know why it just seems to be a thing like I saw Blade 2 I think it was Blade 2 I don't
even remember which one it was but I saw it a long time ago and the only thing I remember from
that movie is the ending nothing else it's either Blade 2 or
Blade Trinity where he's in love with this girl and then he has to hold her as she like
withers away in the sun because she she did and it's like emotional and it's like oh wow what a
great way to end the movie and then it cuts to this scene where he stabs someone in the face and then
the movie ends there I don't know who he stabbed in the face I don't know the relevance of that
guy I just remember it refused to end on an emotional beat it had to end on something violent
right um and so or or you know gritty or something so likewise here yeah but yes i agree with you
i'm glad that we got that moment like i guess the the arc for hughy is that he is no longer that
little kid it was kind of you know sad telling whatever that his dad was like no you're still
that nine-year-old little boy but he really had to grow up and do what was best for everyone in that
situation which is really really hard like to I guess prove his dad wrong in a way that he could
make that tough decision and not only that but he was the one that administered the the medication
yeah and put him to sleep as it were yeah it's rough that is rough yeah oh man that's that's hard
I never would have thought that the boys would get me so emotional like this yeah I mean that's
as I've said for a very long time at this point
that's the stuff that draws me in
is the character stuff
you know that
is the most interesting part of this show to me
the characters and the story much more
than the violence like that's
for the other audience
but this audience right here
the most interesting stuff is the
I guess the comedy the
characters what they're going through how they
how they're dealing with stuff
and just that emotional content
it doesn't always necessarily by emotional content
I don't necessarily just mean that.
Right.
You know.
Well, yeah, because there's a lot going on with the other characters, too.
Like, Frenchy is having a real crisis.
Yeah, the way it does character exploration is just fascinating to me, I suppose.
Yeah, because all the characters are really flawed as well.
Yeah, there's depth to them.
Yeah, that stuff with the dad was fascinating because I'm trying to, like, navigate this.
Yeah.
So when you lose a parent, you're like, or when you're like, or when you're,
You're about to.
Well, for me, I just lost my dad.
Like, not recently, but like, I'm seeing when it happened.
It was, it was, it was, it was, it was, it just like, it just happened, right?
Right.
And the first thing you do is you're like, you're trying to hold on because it doesn't make sense.
And so Huey's actions totally, at least his intent made sense.
It's like, he's trying to hold on.
It's a selfish thing because really what you're supposed to do is let go.
Right.
But the very natural thing as a, as a child.
Well, as a human, as a person.
Is, is your, you're trying to cling.
on even if it doesn't really make sense for who you're clinging on to you know what I mean the whole thing with the mom is kind of perplexing to me I don't know how the fuck that works out because she saw the Vsauce or she said it fell out I mean it's in a pocket in a coat I'm not going to think too hard about that and she knew exactly what it was she knew exactly what it was and how to implement it let's just put that to the side for now but Huey's you know wish came true and he saw like how nightmares that was and how everybody was right well the thing is I
I feel like he was already on his way in the journey, right, in his arc,
because he got the V, but then he decided he didn't want to, you know, use the V, right?
Well, not yet anyway.
Well, yeah, he didn't use it.
And that decision was just made for him.
Exactly.
So I feel like he was already on his way to being like,
I think I have to accept that I have to let go of my dad.
And so obviously, I mean, yeah, it's nice that he got him back.
And it was also nice that he got to say goodbye, you know?
Like, that's really powerful, I suppose.
Yeah.
It just sucks that, like, these innocent people died in the process of him, like, you know,
going through that process of grieving and goodbye.
It's so horrific, especially the way that that guy who was, like, hitting on that nurse
went.
That was just terrible.
Yeah.
Speaking of character stuff, you know, the one of the other very poignant moments in the show
that was revealing was Homelander and his son, right?
because you have that scene
where they're sitting across from each other
and you're just,
you're never sure what Homelander is going to do.
That's one of the great things about the show
is like, you know who he is,
you know what he's about,
you understand his behavior,
but he still is somehow an unpredictable character.
Yeah.
For seasons in, it's like,
the fact that they're able to make Homelander
unpredictable even yet is remarkable.
That is good writing.
Yeah.
In my opinion.
And so, you know, his response to his son,
As a savvy audience, you're just like, well, this is surely just a tactic, right?
Like, this is just him manipulating the situation.
It's hard to tell.
Like, as far as his perspective goes, he's being 100% genuine.
It's not a maneuver like, I forgot the name of the black female who's, um.
Sage.
Is that her whole superhero name?
Sister Sage.
Sister Sage.
That's what the name I was looking for.
I don't know if she's like Dr. Manhattan where she can see 80 steps ahead.
And so everything she does is all part of the playbook.
A homelander's not like that.
And so as far as he's concerned, I feel like he's being, you know, 100% genuine.
Maybe there's a little bit of like, eh, nudge here, nudge here towards something he wants selfishly, right?
But he seemed genuine in the moment.
What it turns out is his son is more like him than we initially thought.
And that is frightening.
Right.
You know, because the whole thing was like he was the goal for, for butcher.
Like, he's got to save him.
It's like, if he is that much like homelander,
to the point he's enjoying seeing this do get slapped.
Who deserved it?
Well, yeah, I mean, I think that's where the distinction is, right?
I think that his desire to help is genuine.
But then, yeah, he does get a little bit of enjoyment.
Yeah.
It's a little bit hard to know for sure, like, which way he swings, right?
Well, I think that's why it's so important to get him in better hands.
Right, the nature versus nurture things.
That's what you're talking about.
So that aside, right?
The guy he was enjoying seeing take a beating deserved it.
Sure.
Right?
And there's like this sort of like weird cathartic thing involved with that in the real world.
Let's set that aside too.
Like, but you know, for all intents and purposes, the dude that he was watching get slapped, that he enjoyed watching get slapped was, you know, a slimy guy.
Yeah.
You know, he wasn't in enjoying good people getting hurt, I guess, for to speak.
So, so it's still like, it's just a great area in my opinion.
But it does seem to hint at the possibility.
that he is on the path towards being a homelander junior.
Yeah, and that's terrifying.
Sorry, that was long-winded, but, you know, that was the point.
That's okay.
Anyways, you guys, thanks so much for hanging out.
Hopefully you enjoyed that.
I'm Jabby Koi.
This is...
Acharik.
Peace out.
