Sinha. Pals.
What is up, everyone?
Welcome back.
I'm Incharik, joined by Kristen Steffinson.
Hi.
I'm messed up your name today.
Steffinzapino.
Kristen Steffin-Sampino, you guys.
We are checking out The Mist, the 2007 movie.
Let's jump into it.
Here we go.
Oh, my God.
This movie is horrific.
So twisted and messed up
And so many different levels
Oh my gosh
Where do you even start with that?
Yeah I mean
You know what?
It's really interesting
Because it definitely gives me a lot of food for thought
Because it's like, okay
I was thinking about it
As I was watching our lead guy
Just like break down
And it's like what's more horrific
The monsters that were out there
The monsters that were inside the store
the ones that were the other people
or the...
Monster he just became.
Yeah, exactly.
Or just the horrifying truth
that you just killed your son
and all of the people
that you tried to help for nothing.
Like, it's truly horrific
on so many different levels.
If I'm gonna go...
Yeah, I want to...
Like, obviously I would want a quick...
But at the same time,
I feel like once you get that far...
Right?
You may as well just walk out there.
just keep going until something wipes you out.
I don't know, but I understand why they did what they did.
Because especially after what they saw, but I'm like,
but maybe everything changes when you have a kid, right?
Because then you're like, okay, is it better than to have them go quickly without suffering
or do we go out and they potentially like have a slow death and get eaten by a monster
and get really scared in their last moments?
I mean, his kid was scared in that last moment.
yeah because he woke up
unfortunately he made eye contact
with his dad yeah that was
just cruel and unusual punishment
like well for the dad
I feel like it's bad enough
that he had to kill
his own son but to do it
with a son looking at him like dad
you're my protector what the F
what are you doing and then just
taking everyone out and not being
able to go out himself and
I can't believe that they did
that where it was like
That was...
Now the army comes.
It's like, if you don't just wait, it's just like maybe...
Well, obviously, they're going to know how to destroy the creatures that they created, right?
They got to have an anecdote of some type or will look like it, because things are clearing up, but...
Yeah, they messed up.
This film made me sick to my stomach.
And, like, okay, the creatures in here were disgusting.
Yeah.
Very disgusting.
They almost like a little alien-like, which is fine.
But because of that, at some points, it kind of pulled me out of it.
I'm like, okay, it's not so bad.
But it was more of like the thought of it actually being, like, if this was to really happen
and like, you know, like characters and what they're going through is what made it super gnarly for me.
Yeah, the situation was definitely much scarier than the actual creatures.
And I think they did a good job of just kind of making us scared with what we couldn't see.
Yes.
I'll be real with you.
The visual effects on this, obviously this movie's older now,
but the visual effects on this were a little bit ropey at points.
And so it looked sometimes like kind of cartoony.
But it was just the idea of what was happening.
And some of the more horrific moments were like that one where the guy had the rope tied around him.
And he walks out and you see nothing but just the rope.
And I thought that was so smart because our imagination is filling in the blanks of like what's going.
going on like what's happening to this guy
like we can't see it so we're like freaking out
our imagination is worse sometimes
sometimes worse than reality
yeah right I think also what's happening
inside the store was actually
like completely terrifying like our
like our own
humankind is like
also it's like there's like a no
win win you're you're doomed
if you're inside and you're doomed if you're out
you know what I mean because everybody starts turning on themselves
especially during a crisis
I mean even like during COVID and stuff
people were like turning against each other yeah if you remember if we get you know we remember that
and that was kind of intense i was like really all right well it's like all of the all of the worst
parts of humanity come out when we're in a situation yeah where we're really scared yep and so yeah
i think i think this was like a really interesting story about all of those just different
aspects of us because you see the different types of people right like you see the people who
are there and like trying to help the community yeah and then you see the people
who are not and also the people who are
bringing people together in a way that is
not helpful like the super religious lady
I think they did really well with the cast
all the characters I liked
I liked for their role especially as a religious lady
I think she did her job man
she took this film to another level I think without her
it wouldn't have been as bad
yeah because she really added more stress
in chaos that you couldn't help but feel so frustrated but also scared with her being in there
and then watching everybody turn like that would really happen in real life you know because people
act from a place of fear and anger and they like you said earlier too like they need somebody
to blame yeah you know and we do nasty things we do yeah horrific things when when we're
scared and like when we're trying to find someone to blame and someone to like fight
against when it's like no no no let's let's work together if they would just calm down and be like
right this is brave i know we're all scared yeah let's just calm it down like take a down notch we're
all terrified then i feel like you would have a better chance of working together but during those
situations the animal the cruel unusual animal sides come out and that's when you honestly like
that's when you see people's true colors yeah you find out who you really are in that moment are you
the person that's like going to try and help other people and think of the whole or are you just like
all about your own survival yeah well even like okay it was another example like during COVID right
someone I knew who um was close to me and there was somebody who we knew for over 10 years yeah and um
I have to be at this person's home just because I just happen to be there okay and this person came
over just to kind of like have a place to like stay and whatever and he wouldn't allow him to
cross one more like a lane and was like hey i got to protect my family you know like can't come
over here and i'm like bro this is somebody we've known for over 10 years what are you doing because
he was so terrified of covid yeah and then they even brought out his shotgun and i was baffled
I was like, yeah, I'm going to throw it out, I don't even care.
My ex's dad did that and I was baffled and I called my mom and I'm like,
this guy's losing his damn mind, you know, and like did the whole jumpsuit and everything.
So I got out there and I was like, yeah, I'm going, I can't go home.
But I'm like, you come to my house.
Like, you know what I mean?
Like my mom, I feel like my mom was the type that was like, okay, if anybody needs anything,
like, come here.
I'm like, I'm, mama, like I got you, you know, and I'm like the same way.
where I'm like, oh, you guys don't have,
oh, you need some supplies or whatever.
Yeah, we have plenty.
Like, if you need it, like, let's help each other out.
Meanwhile, meanwhile, I think that was like a side of him
that I've never seen before.
And I was just like, you are cruel, man.
Like, you're so, like, I get, okay, survival,
but I'm like, there's something wrong with you.
I didn't like it personally.
No.
And all I kept thinking was if a crisis, like a real true,
I mean, okay, it was a crisis, but if something,
like, I don't know, if a real situation,
like really broken.
down like a bad bad like this yeah he would not be the person i want by my side he'd probably
lock me out yeah yeah you know what i mean i mean truly these types of situations just show who you
really are yeah i mean we see it as well like in the movie even his neighbor in the beginning was like
rallying people yeah against him and it's interesting that you see that it's on both sides you know
it's not just like the uber religious who are trying to preach a certain thing this other guy
was like purely skeptical on the other end and he was also trying to like rally people yeah
you're always going to have that you're always going to have the religious side of anything yeah
with any situation you're going to have the religious side you're going to have the unbelievers
and they're going to have the people who see it and then the followers and you go have your leaders
like you know there's like so many different groups and I feel like a lot of people they just
they're trying to do the best they can and make the right decisions but
But I feel like when you're acting from a place of fear, that's when we fail the most.
And we can't make decisions off of that.
We need to, like, kind of calm it down.
Yeah.
And relax for a second to actually think things through, where most people, I think, start jumping the gun.
Yeah, just like, go, go, go.
But it's interesting that we brought the woman from the very beginning back and how she made it to her children.
Yeah, that's funny.
Because she was like, she looked at all of them and she was like,
none of you will help me.
Yeah, and I hope you all have right.
Yeah, and they did.
They truly did, but like, it's funny how she left in the beginning because she needed
to be with her kids.
And maybe if they had left with her, if anyone of them would have left with her, then they
would have been fine.
But because they all chose to be selfish as stay in the safety of their comfort zone.
Yeah.
I know.
I just think that was so, like, that I was like.
Yeah.
Yeah, when you see her again, it's like, oh, she.
shit she made it she got to her kids maybe if he did like run out to his car could have made it
to his wife yeah exactly like that thought ran through my head too like hey if you would have gone
with this lady you would have made it to your wife too and you would have been okay and you would
have probably found these people on the way like i don't know man like oh yeah that one hurt yeah
it's it's really it's really messed up i mean but i think it's cool because it kind of makes
you examine yourself and what you might do in that situation and also just
examine humanity and just like
the reality of what we're really like as
people. Yeah. I mean, I'd love
to think that in a situation
I would be brave, but
I can't say that with full
certainty. I feel, okay. I don't know.
I feel like I already know
because I've been in certain situations. No, I know.
I know what you would do. But I like,
even though I'm sitting here, I feel like I'm a coward
and I'm like, oh, I do, do,
like, in reality, I would be that person
like, all right,
I'll do it, I'll do it.
No, you're on my team.
Like, okay, hold up.
Hold up.
And I, and I'm naturally, my brain automatically works that way in a crisis.
Yeah.
And I've already had several that have happened to me.
You know some of my stories.
And so I already know which person I would end up being,
even though everything in my body is telling me, don't do it.
Don't do it. Yeah.
I'm like, I step up to the occasion and be like,
I think for me it would depend on what you're asking of me.
There were certain things that I would be like, all right,
but other things I'd be like, give me a.
minute. Let me just put on my big girl panties and think about this. Okay. So funny. I feel like
if Jabby was in a situation like this, though, I'm going to just throw this out there. I think
he would have my back. He would have your back. I think he would have my back to certain extent.
And he'd be like, don't do it. Don't do it. But he'd be like terrified. And I'd get to the point
I'm like, shut up and leave me alone. I'm like, calm down. You're going to like, shh. And he's
like, oh, but it's so dumb. I was like, well, then don't come. No, but I got to have your back.
And then you'd be like, you know, there. And I'm like, okay, you can have him.
back but you're stressing me out yeah yeah and then I think after things like went down then he
would like be so calm and like on it and then and then you'd be like where was this guy before like
like why are you acting like this now we need that 10 minutes ago yeah a charra a charro would be like
we'd be a pulling her on the wagon because you know what would happen you know what would happen
I'll tell you what would happen I would be scared I would be scared but I'd have my well
happen. And then as soon as something comes at me, the inner crazy comes out. And then like, it's game over. I would just be like, wow. No, but you would like, you might freeze, but it's okay. We would be pulling her. And then she would have like, you would have your weapon. You'd be prepared. She might be doing this for a few. And then the moment something came, she'd be like, ah! And I'm like. And then we'd look at her like, Chari, you're so brave. Like, she's like, no, I'm good right here. And I'm like, dude. If you're up here. And I'm like, dude, if you're up here.
With me, we'd be fine.
That's it.
It'd make it a lot easier, Charra.
Just come up.
She's like, no, no, no, I'm good right here.
I'll take the rear.
That's a chara.
Guarantee.
I'll protect the back line.
Don't worry.
If they come from behind, I got you.
I think Vivian would be the first to die.
What?
I don't know if she'd hold up.
I think she might just start crying.
No.
I think.
Okay, what do you think about stuff?
Oh, sorry, Vivian.
Seth, I think she'd rise up.
She'd throw down.
She'd throw down.
I think Seth would throw down.
Michael.
Yeah, Michael.
Michael Hunts and stuff.
Okay, he would throw down, man.
Yeah, he'd throw down.
He'd throw down.
Michael would throw down.
And of who else do we have?
Andrew.
Andrew, you know, I think he would throw down.
I wouldn't mind Andrew being on my side.
Yeah, yeah, yeah.
I think Haley would, nah, you know, Haley?
I think it depends on the situation.
I don't know.
Well, I know.
She plays some nerly video games, so.
Yeah, I think we got a good team.
Vivian just stay in the middle
we'll protect you
I don't I'm not too confident
with you Vivian I'm so sorry
I love you though
I mean maybe if we need something really pretty
you know somebody is like oh look at
she's pretty and they're like oh let her go
yeah let Vivian live in peace
I think she has an inner warrior woman
that would come out
Christian have faith
Vivian I
I'm going to have faith in you
I love you
I can't wait for her to see this
I love you
she's my giggle buddy you know
like but Vivian tell us the truth
send a cameo in
she would throw down 100%
I'm sure I think she would throw it
I think she'd give it her best shot
yeah for sure anyway you guys
thanks for hanging out
what did you guys think of this movie
you know
Ending miserable
yeah the ending I actually
saw some stuff online, I think, where people were angry
at the ending, and I was like, I don't know, I didn't read
it, but. I'm not too
upset with the angry, I mean, angry.
The ending. No, I'm not...
Only because I like that
it was unexpected.
Yeah. Like, I wasn't expecting,
like, I mean, we had that thought
for a second, but I didn't really
think it was going to come true. Yeah, and then
it didn't. I was like, oh, they went there.
That's really dark. I thought we were just going to eliminate everyone.
Yeah. But then I'm like, ugh.
It's, the ending was even darker.
Well, I did it.
I was going to say it was going to say it was even darker
than I could have imagined, but I did kind of call it.
You did.
But I didn't think that they would go there.
Because it was really dark.
Yeah.
It's one of those things that's like, oh, what if?
And you're like, ha ha, I'm just kidding.
They would never.
And then they do it, you're like,
I'm so sorry, I threw that out there.
Yeah.
Me and my crazy mind.
Imagining the worst in every situation.
Normally I get irritated with certain endings
because I want a happy end.
I'm not too upset with this one.
That's interesting.
Right?
And I think it's because, man, this is rough.
I just feel like it has like too much of a realistic thing about it.
Then I'm like, be brave of you to end it that way.
Yeah, very.
I bet your mothers are very proud.
Anyway, let us know your thoughts, you guys.
We'll see you next time.
I'm a charo-courke.
This is Kristen Tubis, Pino.
Ciao.
