Senna. Pals. Very excited to get into X-Men 97, episode four. Here we go.
What? I don't know. You've got to be kidding me. That's where it stops.
Well, it's part one. So we're going to... It just was so quick. I could have done without the Jubilee thing in favor of that story.
I know that story was so cool. Like, why did we... Oh, darn it. I vaguely recall Mojo from the X-Men cartoon from back in the day. And I just remember thinking,
And this dude is like a disgusting-looking character.
When I realized that he was like this gamer character, it just kind of tickled me
because I feel like that is basically the epitome of what my parents were afraid of when
it came to gaming because I wasn't allowed video games growing up.
I didn't have my own console until I could afford to buy one.
They were like, oh, no, video games are going to rot your brain.
You'll never exercise or go outside.
He just kind of is that like fat.
blobby gamer who's always got his eyes open so that he can play all the video games.
That kind of tickled me.
I know, okay, that not all gamers are fat dungeon guys.
Now we're all fat dungeon guys.
The first part of the episode was more of just sort of a nod to the old school fans.
If you were watching the cartoon back in the day, you'd recall all that stuff.
It's nostalgic fun.
But I was very eager to get back onto Storm's journey and see what's going on with that.
And it felt cut really, really short.
Like you said, it's part one.
I enjoyed the stuff with Jubilee.
Like you said, it was really nostalgic with all of the animation and stuff to kind of give it that old school video game feel.
It was really fun.
And I also really appreciated getting to see the extent of Jubilee's powers.
Because, you know, while I like her as a character, I like her sassiness and she's really fun.
I've never really properly understood how her fireworks powers could be super,
useful.
Or lethal?
Yeah, lethal.
Yeah.
I mean, if you get close enough, you could probably blow something up.
But seeing what her older self was able to do with those, like, cool discs and stuff
like that, I was like, yeah, this is, she's really cool now.
They had a shape to them almost like she was able to take, to make objects.
Yeah.
Or like certain kinds of projectiles and stuff like that.
As opposed to just like straight fireworks.
There was progression in this particular first half because of her and.
Roberto.
Yeah, I forgot his solar power or whatever.
I forgot the sunsolar or something like that.
A mutant name, right?
There was a certain level of progression there between the two of them while they explored
her mind, I guess.
You got that kiss at the end of the story for the first half.
I'm like, oh, okay.
So now they're dating.
It's a sweet 18th birthday.
Sure.
It's not like, it was not for nothing, right?
Because they had this, they trauma bonded.
They did.
And I think she also realized that even though, you know,
Magneto is kind of boring to her and he has to stick up his ass, everything that he's saying
is valid and makes sense.
Like if she practiced more, if she trained more, then she would be able to use her powers in
a more meaningful way like her older self was able to do.
Sure.
I suppose there's also a balance to the episode.
I mean, I don't mind it going the darker route like it did in episode three, right?
But it gave you that happy thing that was almost like the Christmas episode of Marvel's What If?
And so then the other half is the more darker one, you know, because Storm doesn't have her powers yet.
I suppose it would be kind of a drag if you had 30 minutes of just Storm just trying to figure herself out.
I wasn't expecting it to go down this route of being kind of supernatural.
That was surprising to me.
I am thinking she's in the box.
What box?
The cryotherapy box.
Oh, the box that he put her into.
Yeah, the float tank, whatever.
Oh.
I think she's in there.
that's why the reality is distorting and falling.
I mean, they already set it up with the first half
because, you know, Jubilee and Sunspot got pulled into the game
through the Sega Genesis Motendo thing.
And so it just makes sense as sort of a pairing of these two stories
in this episode that she's still in the virtual world or something like that.
That's my guess.
I don't know.
You're kind of blowing my mind right now.
I could be totally way off.
Anyone who's read the comics or something is like, no, actually in issue 45, this,
I'm like, okay.
I mean, I'm guessing.
That is a very fun podcast.
I am also equally intrigued by this whole demon bird thing that's going on right now.
And that is also fun to me because I do love like the supernatural and the occult and stuff like that.
Hold on. I just realized something.
Storm said the bird keeps going in the same spot over and over again.
And the winds keep going east.
So presumably if she is trapped in some sort of other reality, she's been there since the beginning of her story in this episode.
Which wouldn't make sense, I think.
Why?
Because he put her in the box after they came back from the horse riding.
So you need to watch the 13th floor.
You really got to watch the 13th floor.
It could be like, you know, the Matrix within the Matrix kind of thing.
You know what I mean?
I'm speculating.
This is fun.
So I enjoyed, you know, seeing what little thing was kind of brewing between Storm and...
Forge?
Tehawk.
Is that his name?
No, I just...
I don't know his name.
Sorry.
Tehawk's the name of a street fighter character.
So whatever.
There's something fun there.
It's just like everything's happening quick, which I suppose it has to be because it's a 30-minute show.
But it's like because it's cut in half, right?
You had to get to the Sunspot Jubilee romantic ending quick.
You had to get to the storm and forge thing really quick.
Well, I enjoyed it too.
I love that kind of mutant soap opera feel that we're getting where it's like, oh, there's like romance and action and everything.
And like, he's trying really hard.
Yeah.
It was very obvious to me at least.
from the very beginning the way that he was you know treating her with the dinner and like oh
I made you a special chili and like there's candles and stuff and and he's got a bottle of wine I'm
like who does that who does that if you're not trying to hit on the lady you know what I mean
that was kind of fun also I really enjoy his short shorts okay you guys thanks much for hanging out
I'm jabby koi this is a chara cook peace out
