Starting point is 00:00:00 Senna. Episode 8 of X-Men 97 is here. Tolerance is Extinction Part 1. Here we go. Yeah, thanks for joining the party. No, you are. No, he's not. You're late.
Starting point is 00:00:15 He's late. It's not too late. To me, my X-Men. Ah! Yo, what a great ending. That was a powerhouse episode, dude. Yeah. That might have been my favorite episode so far,
Starting point is 00:00:29 just because it managed to jam pack so much into those 30 minutes and then when we were reaching the end the third act or the closure of the episode I was like, you know, this is really satisfying. I'm quite content with that. You know, I was like, it leaves you in a spot where you're excited for what's to come
Starting point is 00:00:45 but you still got so much out of that, you know? Yeah, and it never ceases to amaze me how good the writing in this and how relevant everything that they're talking about is still, you know, like the stuff where, you know, they were talking about apathy after you get to a certain point of, you know, seeing the same thing over and over again, of people hurting each other and people being hurt and all of that. And then as long as it's not happening to you directly, then you're like,
Starting point is 00:01:16 okay, you know, that's sad, but life goes on. And I feel like we're experiencing that so much. And it reminds us like, hey, you need to not, you know, you need to. care about things that are happening. I really appreciate that about like just the X-Men in general and I'm sure that the writers on this show added that in as well because it is relevant to the source material but it's also relevant to the world that we're living in and it's sad that that is still the case you know and perhaps that is just sadly the human experience is that even though we know all these things are bad you know we still keep repeating them but anyway about the episode you're right it was jam-packed with just
Starting point is 00:02:04 craziness well it's just wall to wall not a wasted minute and it managed to like get in some really cool moments of like the the familial stuff because at the beginning it's like the arcs that happened within the 30 minutes while still serving you so much action and cool action at that yeah this is a very very efficient episode because you start off with the tension between cable and cyclops and he feels like you know abandoned because he kind of was you know but like to save him it's like this confusing conflicting thing he's had to deal with seeing his mom die over and over again so cables in a weird headspace right but he's still trying to do the right thing um and then you have that moment after they're in the porch you know escaping all the sentinel biological
Starting point is 00:02:49 sentinel thing yeah and you had the epic score showing the and he's like no one messes with the scots It aren't the Scots, the summers. Yeah. You know what I mean? So, and so they had that fleeting moment of bonding. I don't know if that's going to stay. Hopefully it does, but it was cool that they at least had that, you know. Well, yeah, and it was a really lovely message that Kurt Knightcrawler said as well,
Starting point is 00:03:15 which is basically about chosen family, right? It's like, yeah, so what? We're, some of us are blood, but ultimately, if you choose to be family, then you're just family. And I thought that was just like, all of the things that he was saying, I was like, wow, that's really deep. Like, what he was saying about memories or what is it? Like, they're just emotions that, you know, you're holding on to. I keep phrased it so much better. I'd have to rewatch the episode.
Starting point is 00:03:43 But I was just like, yeah, he's saying some really, really lovely things. And he's giving Gene Gray hope. Why can't you speak as well as writers who had time to craft these words, Achara? Come on. I know. Get it together. I try, but I can only do so much. But, like, it was just really endearing and hopeful to hear those words from him.
Starting point is 00:04:06 Yeah, absolutely. He's such a cool character. Yeah. And then also to hear him say that he's Mystique son, I know all of you comic readers are like, duh, Achara. But when Kristen and I watched X2, like, we didn't know that they were together. I mean, I love the X-Men movies, but I feel like they kind of mess things up, if that's like your first experience with the X-Men? Because in my mind, I was like, I didn't know that she was his mom.
Starting point is 00:04:33 Like, how does that even work in the movies? But here I'm like, oh, yeah, like, thank you for explaining that to us right off the bat. Yeah, I mean, because it's a TV show, you know, it kind of has to keep explaining stuff to you along the way and not assume that you're all caught up all the time, right? Because, like, at one point, Gene Gray was saying, and my friend, Storm, and it's like, we kind of all know she's your friend. But she could have just as easily taken out the my friend part. But they're trying to make it clear for everybody, even the layman, who might not know that.
Starting point is 00:05:09 And he goes, my mother, mystique, it's like, you know what I mean? I appreciated it. Yeah, it's just to help out the audience a little bit. Especially when there's so many threads to keep up with, I think it makes sense to do that. even if it feels a little bit clunky it's just helping you to keep everything together you know and there was some cool moments right at the end with Spider-Man showing up
Starting point is 00:05:30 and then other characters whose names I can't remember but it was just like you know they it was almost like the Captain Marvel at the end of end game a little bit not end game yeah yes end game I am thinking of the right movie because you know you the one thing that will screw all of this up for Bastion is Magneto and he had him under lock and key
Starting point is 00:05:51 until like the lady freed him and and he stopped all that shit like that yeah i was thinking about that though because you know in in all of the different past that cable came back to like maybe this was the one time like all it needed was one person to change their mind and do something unpredictable yeah and then it changed the course of everything so we'll see maybe this is the one the one past that he comes back to that is the one that will change the entire timeline. That was really nice overlap between her talking and Magneto stopping all the sentinels because the speech, her epic speech, normally when you see that, I feel like it's a reveal of some kind from the person having the speech. Like, by the way, I have superpowers. That's why I was asking
Starting point is 00:06:40 if she's a mutant, like secretly this whole time and we just didn't know or something. But her thing was just about knowledge, right, and then understanding of things. And so she helped this cause, you know. Well, yeah, because she's a human that is on the side of mutants, right? And well, the thing that I kind of have a hard time understanding is, okay, fine, I get it. Mutants are an evolution of humans, right? But if they are, that aren't they human too? But then I guess the argument is like, you know, like humans versus Neanderthals, right?
Starting point is 00:07:14 Like we're not entirely the same, even though we're descended from them. It's complicated, I guess. Yeah. And so I'm just like, why are you being mean to them? Like, they're people too. Yeah. Like, let's live together. I feel like X-Men are people too.
Starting point is 00:07:28 X-Men are people too. Yeah. I mean, yeah, mutants are people. Yeah. We just got to, you know, do away with the word mutant. I feel like that's not PC anymore. No. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:07:40 Extra human, I think, is the current term we need to go with. Extra humans. Some humans are more extra than others. Yeah. But I also... I'm super extra. I also enjoyed like the connection with the absolute point, you know, for those of us that have been watching what if and whatnot.
Starting point is 00:07:59 It's like when he mentioned that, I was like, yeah, that makes so much sense. Because it did kind of feel like that Doctor Strange episode where he kept going back to try and save his girlfriend's life over and over again. And it's like you can't. Like that thing has to happen. And so maybe it is that Genosha had to happen. And there was no way that Cable could change that at all. You know, you saying that just reminds me of how there's been all this rhetoric about how the MCU is dead.
Starting point is 00:08:27 Comic book movies are dead. And there's like all his excitement, you know, between this show and Deadpool coming out. It's like, this is the thing I feel like we always have this ebb and flow. Right. And so it's just very exciting what they're doing with this show. It is so exciting. Like, this has given me hope again. I'm like, this is really interesting
Starting point is 00:08:49 because I've loved the X-Men or like my exposure to the X-Men, which is mostly just from the films, right? But, like, I've really enjoyed the characters and everything. And now it's like, okay, we're going to combine that with the MCU characters who I also know and love. And so it's just opened up a whole new world of possibilities. Do you think there's some backroom, figy conspiracy, you talk like fallout where they're like okay we're going to make some of these bad and then we're
Starting point is 00:09:19 to make some of these awesome and we're going to manipulate their emotions and even the ones that are bad there's going to be people who defend them because they're hardcore and something like that but then we'll pull them right back in and then there's going to be a one two punch I don't know I just like I try to imagine like what's going on back there because some of the shows are super ropey and then some of them are great yeah like this one's great this one's great you know and I'm like what the hell's going on at Marvel. This has to be on purpose. There's got to be a reason and some kind of plan to it all, you know? Yeah, or else the people who are working on this show just really care about it a lot more, or they've chosen people who, you know, really know their stuff and also know how to craft a compelling
Starting point is 00:10:02 story so that even, you know, kind of noobs like myself can enjoy. Yeah, I mean, it's doing a lot of what the old X-Men show did, naturally, because, you know, of having these meta lessons and whatnot that you can kind of take with you into your own life. I mean, that's sort of the point of X-Men, isn't it? While having really cool animation, having cool character moments, having cool action. Yeah. I mean, the sequence when Nightcrawler and Wolverine, you know. I was so cool. Yeah, I was kind of like, why isn't Wolverine doing more? But then he had that whole thing in the sky. I'm like, okay, that's pretty epic. You know? Yeah, yeah. And so, yeah, I think that they're doing.
Starting point is 00:10:39 doing such a phenomenal job with the show so far, and I'm looking forward to more of it in the weeks to come for the last two episodes. So it's bittersweet, but very thrilling at the same time. You guys, thanks so much for hanging out. I am Jabby Kui. This is Achara Kirk. Peace out.
