Sina.
What's up, everyone?
Welcome back.
I'm Achara Kirk, joined by Kristen Steffin-Sompino.
We are carrying on with our X-Men journey.
We are on to X-Men First Class now, one of my favorites in the whole franchise.
Let's jump into it.
Here we go.
First class.
Up in the air.
Champagne.
Where's your telepath, friend?
Gone.
I left a bit of a gap in my life of whom, to be honest.
I was rather hoping you would fill it.
Join us.
Sure, why not? Eric, I believe.
She doesn't even care about Sebastian.
She's like, whatever.
Magneto.
Magneto.
Such a badass name.
Ah, I loved it.
This is so good.
So good, right?
Okay, is it bad that there's...
Like, as much as I loved it, I wish we had more time to get, like, more time with each of, not, you know.
Like, with each of the characters?
Yeah, like, before they split up.
Yeah, but I think, you know what, I think that's like a testament to the writing that they made us really care about all the different characters and be really curious about all of them that when the movie ends were like, but I wanted more because they were so cool.
I wanted way, way, way, way more.
but this also makes me even more mad at number three.
Do threes like scarred me for a life or something?
Well, I feel like they did three and then they're like, you know what, we can do better.
And I will say, like, I really enjoy a lot of the director, Matthew Vaughn's work,
but this is some of his best stuff, I think, and a few other things.
But like, I really enjoyed this and the story and everything.
Like, it's so good because from the very beginning you were always curious about the
relationship between Professor X and Magneto and here you really get to see how it came to be.
They love each other, no matter what, they love each other. Yeah. And it's just they just have a different
perspective. And like, you know, they have had different upbringings, different life lessons. Yeah.
And they're just, they're four different things. So. And I think like seeing like from Magneto's
perspective, like all of the things that happened to him throughout. And I mean, like we've always known,
right, that he was a survivor of
the Holocaust and everything, but
for whatever reason, I feel like the movie does this
so well, like you really feel it, and so all
of the things that he's talking about, in addition
to being experimented on
by shore, it's like,
yeah, you understand why
he has so little trust
for people, and
like, he just believes that everyone is going to
just try and kill them
all and hurt them.
You just, do you need a moment?
I'm just thinking of all these different
of things, like, you know, how we lost Professor X.
And I'm like, how are they supposed to, how are, why?
How did they eliminate Professor X?
And then come out with a baller story like this and kill him off the way they did.
Not only that.
That was not Magneto's fault.
That was that girl's fault that he got paralyzed.
I don't care what anybody says.
Like, I'm sticking with that because she shouldn't be shooting a gun.
She had no business shooting.
She was trying to help him.
Yeah, but she could not help him.
No.
She was out of her league.
She's in like...
She's a ding-dong.
Yeah.
She's in with a crowd of mutants.
I blame her.
Yeah.
She's no longer with him.
Well, good, because she doesn't belong there.
I didn't like her.
Like, she upset me a little bit.
At first I was like, she's fine.
And then at the end, I was like, no, she's got to go.
She's got to go.
Yeah.
We can't.
He needs a full mutant crew, but...
Oh, so good, though.
Yeah.
And I'm like really obsessed with.
be snow yeah it took you while
I know like for you it's like because you can't
remember names very well but I was like surely
surely she's going to make the connection soon
but it's okay as soon as he turned blue
you were like oh I know exactly who this
is well we never looked at his feet or anything there was no
like but not like that like I feel like
they did a really good job
at bringing their youth
into this and I mean I didn't like the girl
that I like her as an actress
Jennifer Lawrence
I yes I like her as an actress
but I didn't like her here for my girl.
Why is that?
Well, I think because the girl that who originally plays her
is so different, I wish they stay true to more of who the original character is.
But, okay, so I'm going to counter that with perhaps because this is Mystique while she's younger,
she's not that person yet.
And so I do
What I like about Mystique in this version
is that there's a lot more innocence to her
And she's still kind of trying to figure it out
And trying to fit in
And so I really enjoy her art
I don't have a problem with the innocence
Okay
It's the character that's the actress I have a problem with
Because
I don't know there's something about
I just didn't think
I wanted the actress to kind of portray
The original girl a little bit more
Like look wise
Oh okay
So more of a physical thing
For this one she didn't
didn't do it for me. It didn't do it for me. And I love this character so much that I'm a little bit
biased. Kind of like you and that... Gambit. Gambit guy. How you kind of have like that biased
in my head. Yeah. I feel like I'm having that problem with her. Right. And I love her as this girl
as an actress, but not, I didn't, I think they, I think they did a boo-boo and cast her the wrong
girl for it because I think they could have used somebody who had innocence and even showed the
innocence differently.
Sure.
You know, like, but...
We'll never know.
I don't know.
No, we'll never know.
We'll never know.
But I'm just saying, like, I personally just didn't...
I would have preferred somebody else, maybe even a no name for her.
Yeah, but I think they probably wanted to, like, just have more names and stuff.
But, like, I think...
Other than that, though, I mean, I thought this was amazing.
It did...
The more they go back and the more I think of what we just watched and everything, it's tearing me up
inside and I'm like oh and I keep going backwards and I'm like man you guys keep throwing me back in the past or well technically it's the future yeah but now I'm like in certain situations it's making me feel shittier than I already felt about a situation right because like you're you're getting more of the backstory so you understand like where these characters are coming from and why they feel the way that they feel you know and their motivations and everything and I think also once again because like they consistently do a fantastic
job of casting really great actors.
Like, I think that Michael Fastbender and James McAvoy as Magneto and Professor X, like, fantastic.
I couldn't have asked for a better cast with those two.
Yeah.
Honestly, because I feel like they really did portray who they are, like, and they're as a young
version of them.
Yeah.
I love them.
Yeah.
And I love the interaction.
Definitely want more interaction with the two.
Yeah, they're great together.
And I'm not even just talking about here.
I'm talking about every single phase of their life or whatever I,
every time they put those two together, I'm obsessed.
Yeah, they're super great.
And then, like, going back to the whole thing,
because you started talking about Beast as well.
I think they did do a really great job of just kind of showing us more.
Because in the last movie, X-Men 3, the last stand.
Yeah, you just showed up.
I'm like, who's this guy?
Exactly.
And now I'm like, oh, my God, he's an OG.
He's an OG.
And I feel that OG.
with him, where before I'm like, who is this guy?
Yeah, I mean, I think when he showed up probably for fans of the comics,
they knew exactly who he was.
But I love that in this movie,
they were able to really give us his backstory and show us, like,
how smart he is.
And then also, like, just how timid and sweet he was with Mystique.
And he's just kind of like this little nerd who doesn't really understand girls.
And he just so desperately wants to fit in.
And, like, you feel that.
I felt really bad for him, like, when he injected the serum and then turned blue,
and it was like, that was exactly the opposite of what you wanted.
But in a way, it forced him to fully embrace who he was inside.
Yep.
And I actually really appreciate that they did that.
But I also, I felt so bad when he was like, oh, it's not beautiful.
This was beautiful.
Yeah, it hurts.
So many levels.
There's a lot.
So many levels this movie.
X-Man is an onion.
It is an onion
You are an onion
You just peel it
And like different
Different things come out
Like it's so deep
It's getting deeper
And deeper and deeper
And I'm here for it
I like Beast
In the one prior to this
Without even really knowing who he is
And then this one just makes me
adore him
Yeah even more
Yeah Nicholas Holt is great as well
He's so cute
I have a question actually
For the fans
So remember when we
Watch the Wolverine
Origins one. His girlfriend, she had a sister, and her sister, her skin could turn into
diamond. They never actually said her name. And so I was wondering, and I don't know if that's
because they made like some sort of weird continuity. If that might be her. Or if the Wolverine
origin story happened in the 60s, which it couldn't have because he'd already fought in the Vietnam
War. That was kind of doing my head in a little bit because I didn't know if the sister character
from Origins also had some telepathic ability
because the sister had the ability to control people
so it kind of seemed like maybe that was in the vein
but like Emma Frost is cool
I think she's an awesome mutant
and then also that guy who had like the power of the whirlwind
or whatever I feel like we saw that power in Origins too
like one of the kids had that power so I was like
oh that's interesting but honestly I feel like
this whole franchise does not
care about continuity all that much.
So it doesn't really matter.
Yeah, but I wanted to.
Yeah, no, I do too.
Like, I want to know because I genuinely don't know.
I want to ask these questions and get my answer to answer.
Yeah, versus going, oh, I guess we'll never know.
Yeah, someone, please answer in the comments and like just put me out of my misery.
This one was heartfelt, like, yeah.
But at the same time, it's like, ah!
I don't know.
It's all the things, all the things.
I'm so glad you liked it.
so many emotions. And I'm like, and I'm, I'm catching myself getting speechless, because I don't,
and I'm like, and I'm like, what is wrong with me? It's like sensory overload, because there's
so much. Yeah. And then I'm like putting these puzzle pieces even more together. And the more
I put it, I'm like, yeah. That's it. I'm done. This is why we love X-Men so much. I'm
obsessed with X-Man.
Anyway, thank you guys for joining us on this journey.
