Starting point is 00:01:03 and two Emmy nominations. With a profound impact on both entertainment industry and philanthropy, her journey is a testament of the power of seizing every opportunity. Today's powerful guest is none other than Mindy Stearns. Let's go. I live the audience. That was an amazing intro. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:01:25 Let's go. I'm so stoked. So stoked you're here. I love my little cup of deliciousness. That's it. It's yours. Oh, my gosh. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:01:33 You're the first to. get it. You know, we just got these in today and you're the first, you're the first person. Here we go. Let's do this. Cheers. Mindy. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much for coming. I know you're really, really busy. I'm never too busy for you, Chelsea. And, you know, I'm blessed to have you here. And, you know, we're really stepping up our game with our guests. You know, you're an awesome guest. And we, We continue to get such great insightful guests. And I think today as we honor women's history month and as we really honor what the achievement
Starting point is 00:02:11 of women in the mortgage sector, you're really like, you dominate the space. You've been an inspiration to many women. And your position at kind is like such an awesome position. I love it. I love it. I love being Chief Kindness Officer. I love that. And we know that behind every great.
Starting point is 00:02:31 there's always a great woman. And in my success, I always attribute my success to my wife because she's always just given me the necessary direction that I need to win in every environment. And you've been, obviously, been with Glenn. 21 years now. Yeah. Yeah. It's been a ride.
Starting point is 00:02:50 It's been an incredible ride. I mean, I always used to say, you know, he was a star in his own right when I met him, and I had my own star, and we just created a supernova when we came together. And then things just started going crazy from there. You guys are the quintessential example and of a powerhouse couple. But what really I admire about what you guys are doing is you guys are just humble servants at the end of the day. You really like aim to serve and aim to help those that are less fortunate. Philanthropy is top of mind for you.
Starting point is 00:03:19 And you guys continue to just kind of, you know, really foster that mentality and show it. You know, your philanthropic mind is like, you know, it exudes, right? it's just bursting out of you. Well, to whom much is given, much is required, it is said. But I don't think you, it kind of goes around the whole kind mantra, too. The more you give, you just, it creates a ripple in the world. And you just can't help changing a lot of lives. And it's not even even, it's not so much even about giving money.
Starting point is 00:03:50 It's about giving your time, giving your expertise, your mentorship, your friendship, an ear, a little word of kindness, like, you know, like you do on your, on your Instagram. You know, these little notes you hand to people. That is a powerful, a powerful, impactful act that just will spread a ripple beyond what you can even imagine. Yeah, you know, the whole point of those videos is just to spread kindness. I love it. Because, you know, I go to these parks and people are like, if you're sitting at a park by yourself, like, and you get a letter like, hey, you're bigger than your problems. Like, God's much bigger than your problems.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Like, don't worry about it. You're sitting at the park. Like, who knows what you're contemplating? Your prayers and that was your answer. Maybe that's a prayer. I don't know. Exactly. So like I think about that when I'm when I'm doing that stuff and no one ever did that for me.
Starting point is 00:04:37 If I'm like depressed at the park sitting there by myself like praying, you know, it's like. So it's a it does spread and it's something that, you know, I love the message that kind has. You know, that's, you know, kind lending and Glenn is just the kindest guy. You're just the kindness woman. So. Thank you. Thank you. Absolutely.
Starting point is 00:04:54 Absolutely. So I like to start these podcasts off with a nice breaker and I kind of already broke the ice with you. But just let's let's dig in. I'm going to dig into who you are as a person a little bit. How do you like to start your morning? What's your morning routine like? Oh my God. Well, something I do for employees, which is really fun. I literally wake up at six, usually. And they say not to grab your phone, but I will grab my phone and then I'll go sit outside because I think it's important to get the morning sun in your eyes, like the first 20 minutes and the sun's rising. And Glenn and I'll sit out on the deck sometimes just watch the sunrise.
Starting point is 00:05:28 for like 20 minutes, 30 minutes, but I work on birthdays. All of our employees, I create a personalized email based on whatever national day it is. Like today is a national hot dog day or, you know, whatever it is. And I'll create an email and a graphic based on that. And we send it out to the company, happy birthday. And then I also have all of our employees fill out a survey that's like getting to know you. I want to know about them. Their families, what they like. What's their favorite snack? What's their favorite book? What's their favorite quote? And I take all those and I put them in their emails and just say, hey, did you know this about this person? So I make the emails more personal than just happy birthday, Delphino. You know, it's more like, did you know this about Delphino?
Starting point is 00:06:06 Did you know what his favorite book is? Do you know his favorite quote is? And that's the morning. And then Glenn and I love to, now if I don't do my 20s, because that's something I try to get in, it's 20s every day, pushups, 20 sit ups, 20 legs. Whatever form you do it, it's just 20s. Now that we're in 2024, I do the 24. So it's like every day you got to move. You got to move your muscles. So I do that. Then I'll get in a hot shower and Glenn and I sit in the shower together.
Starting point is 00:06:34 And we like, that's where we get our ideas going. That's where we sit. That's where we meditate. That's where we talk about the day, the things, the kids, life, what's coming up, business. It's all, that's our board meeting. That's awesome. And then I'll do a cold plunge. And I will sit in the cold plunge for like three minutes.
Starting point is 00:06:50 And it is like 45 degrees. it's so cold and then and that is how it starts. Do you have an actual cold plunge or do you in the pool? I bought this little thing, no, because I have a really nice deep tub in my bathroom and I bought an, it's like an Arctic pod. That's what it's called. So it's an external plent cooler. So I just stick the hose in and it just runs and keeps it really cold.
Starting point is 00:07:12 So yeah, I didn't have to buy and make space for a big, I could, but I didn't. Yeah. I'm a little bit lazy in the way that I want it to be the most efficient. I want to get in the tub, get out, get to my stuff. I don't want to walk outside and go do it. So it's like a wine barrel cold plunge. Yeah, it's like, no, mine's actually a full tub. Like I sit in my tub and I get in and it's full and I'll put my face in and put your face into.
Starting point is 00:07:32 That's so cold. Yeah. That's the only thing I don't do is, you know, if I cold plunge, I just get up to my shoulders. Just like feels good. Yeah. Yeah. That's the morning. And then I go to work.
Starting point is 00:07:44 Sometimes we have in office two days, three days a week for sure, Tuesday, Wednesday, Wednesday, Thursday. Monday and Wednesday is kind of been floating. I'm usually in. I'll go in on Monday or Friday, just depending on. I like to be in the office. I like people to see me in the office. I think, I don't know. I think being in the office just creates that camaraderie that being at home is lacking.
Starting point is 00:08:03 I love the remote hybrid. I love those moments when I can be at home and do a Zoom call from home and I don't have to do everything to get to work. But there is something to be said about workplace camaraderie that you cannot replicate in a home environment. I completely agree with that. It just does so much for productivity, for morale. for communication, you can check in on someone with, you know, hey, how is you, you're okay? You know, you're seeing down or, hey, you look like a pep in your step. What's going on?
Starting point is 00:08:29 What happened over the weekend? You just, you don't get that on a Zoom. Human collaboration is the new cool. I mean, like, it's the new cool. Ever since COVID, like when we just went fully remote, like now, like to be in a collaborative human environment, like my business partner doesn't even think I work if I'm not in the office. He doesn't even count it as work. Like, you weren't in the office.
Starting point is 00:08:50 He didn't work. You know, you've got to be here 14 hours a day or else it doesn't count. I know, right? Well, and I think what I'm seeing with the new people coming in, it's work-life balance. And I'm like, that doesn't just mean your home and at work. That can be part of it, working at home some, working at the office some. I think we all perform better when we're at our office. I really do.
Starting point is 00:09:11 There's something about the ritual of getting dressed and going to work. Even if you're a home, I know a lot of people at home get dressed and go into their office. I think that's an important ritual. So, but we're just, we're big advocates of being in the office as much as we can. Yeah. We're obviously traveling a lot, going to a lot of brokers and a lot of visiting. Yeah, a lot of conferences. So, but as much as we can, we like to be in the office.
Starting point is 00:09:32 I love that. And I definitely agree with that. And I know you guys are all over the country all the time. I'm tracking, you know, you're like just here and you're there. Everywhere. So I'm going to talk about a couple things like you were in TV, Emmy nominated TV host. When did you get started? Emmy. No, no, not Emmy nominated. I was nominated. But you won an Emmy, too. I won, did I went, I can't remember.
Starting point is 00:09:57 We won something for the Oscar performances that we did. It was the presentation of the show. I might have. I don't. I know I was nominated. Yeah. I mean, we saw, you got so many awards. It's hard to keep track.
Starting point is 00:10:09 I'm grateful and I'm humbled by them, you know. It's nice to be recognized, but I don't do it for that. I do what I do because I love it. Yeah. I love what I do. And if you get rewarded for it, how, what a bonus. You're right. You know?
Starting point is 00:10:22 I know, because you guys, you know, you've passed. the point where like I got to work. You don't need a work. You know, like you guys, you guys have passed that long time ago. I love it. Life, the meaning of life is, is having a meaningful existence. That is what the key to life is. Having a meaningful existence. What am I doing every day that is contributing to the well-being of others and myself at the same time? You know, it's not about give, give, give till you have nothing. It's about filling you up so you can give so everybody wins and everybody's filled up. And if you can go home at the end of day and say, wow, I made someone's dream come true or I helped close this deal and someone is going
Starting point is 00:10:58 to get their dream home. I mean, in the business sense of the word, that is a powerful testament to a meaningful day. I love that. I love that. So what year did you start in TV? Well, TV was funny because I graduated from University of Oregon. I was a duck. I went into hygiene. So I graduated, actually I graduated from Oregon Health Sciences University. I became a hygienist. Then moved to Chicago with fiancé number two. Did that twice. And I was in the audience of Oprah. So that was that whole Oprah thing. I was there with my parents. I was there for my birthday. And I had this strange, really weird skill that I can do animal calls, which it's very odd, but it opened the door. They're going, what, to a career in media and television. You know,
Starting point is 00:11:43 you never know, fly your freak flag. You never know what door's going to open. Should I be, like, worried about my dog's hygiene? I never thought about that. But I always, you know, I did think about it when she's, Oh, my G. Yes, you should be brushing your dog's teeth. How often? A couple times a month. I don't know. I hardly brush my dog's teeth. But every once in a while, I have a Pomeranian. Oh, her breath. Yeah. But you know what you need to do? I will give you one dental piece of advice that not a lot of people know. And my dad uses this graphic story. Brush and scrape your tongue. If you have bad breath or halitosis, oh yeah, yeah. Scrape your tongue. And I will give you this visual and you will never forget it. If a dog poops in the middle of a room on your car. carpet and you just blow a fan across it. That's what you're doing. You're blowing a fan across whatever's on your tongue, the bacteria, the waste. And if you scrape your tongue, it's you're going to get rid of the poop. But if you just brush your teeth and use air freshener, it's like, or breath spray, it's like putting air fresh in a room and not getting rid of the source. Yeah. No, I, I, I scrape my
Starting point is 00:12:42 tongue. Very, very smart. As part of my, you know, I actually use mouthwash. And I feel like after use the mouth while she kind of brings up whatever extras on my tongue. And then scrape. Yeah. And then scrape. Yeah. Very smart. It's like a double impact.
Starting point is 00:12:56 Dental tip for the day. Scrape your tongue, guys. If you have bad breath, it's the reason why you got breath. Your husband or your wife, you know, I, halitosis is a terrible thing. It is. It is. And floss. Floss.
Starting point is 00:13:08 Yeah. So. Good. People are getting, not only are they getting entrepreneurial advice and kindness advice. Gene. Dental health awareness. Yeah. That's good.
Starting point is 00:13:17 We're going to do a short about that. Okay. So you luck, it was like really right place, right time, I mean. I was in the audience. She called for anybody to, well, she was, and it was her producers. Does anybody have a fun talent they can share with the audience before we get started? Oprah's in her dressing room. She's watching everything unfold on her little monitor in her dressing room.
Starting point is 00:13:40 And my mom was giving me the old rib nudge. Like, now, come on, you've been making these stupid, silly noises. your whole life. Why don't you just like open your mouth? So I did. I cried and clucked and crowed and barked and did all these crazy noises. And so Oprah saw it on the monitor when she was getting ready for the show. And so when we all sat down and so...
Starting point is 00:14:03 You're doing noises? I was doing animal calls. Yeah. I was. Do you want me doing? Yeah, yeah. Really loud. I don't want.
Starting point is 00:14:12 And many others. That's crazy. Yeah. How'd you learn how to do all that? I have no idea. That's amazing. So that got the attention of Oprah, which got me on her stage, which ultimately took me up to her dressing room and had this dialogue. And then that opened the door.
Starting point is 00:14:38 And suddenly I was a radio guest on so many morning shows across the world in New Zealand. Doing those calls? Yes. They'd have me on the sound effects girl gets pulled out of the audience of Oprah. Oh, my God. And in the course of doing those interviews, I had one station in Michigan and say, hey, have you ever thought about radio? And I always had that in the back of my head. I wanted to do something in radio or media. And they invited me to go up to Michigan and I started a morning radio.
Starting point is 00:15:04 I was hired in as their morning radio DJ. So it was Mike and Mindy in the morning in Saginaw, Michigan. I did that. Oprah called me back. I ended up on her show five times because she kept highlighting where my journey was taking me. I went from radio to a television show in Oregon. Good Day, Oregon. I was entertainment reporter for a little bell, filling in for a girl who was on maternity leave. Then I got a contract offer from Entertainment Tonight, KTLA in Los Angeles, and KBTV in Portland.
Starting point is 00:15:33 So I had all these things come in. And of course, I'm like, Entertainment Tonight, Mary Hart, oh my God, that was like a dream come true. So that silly little noise opened the door to allow me to go into something that I'd always dreamed of. I was kind of ready for it.
Starting point is 00:15:49 And, you know, you never know, who's knocking at your door, what that's going to look like. But if you don't answer it, you're never going to know. So I walked through that door, and then it ended up having a nice long career at KTLA, where I was the entertainment reporter, anchor, and was considered for the morning news anchor and an offer in New York. And I just, I loved what I did. And ultimately met Gary Marshall, the film director, and ended up in his film, The Princess Diaries.
Starting point is 00:16:15 I was playing softball on his softball team, and he recruited me in that way. and just, you know, just keep your eyes open. Be kind, be happy, be happy for others, and keep your eyes open. You never know. That is so, what a crazy story. So when did you meet Glenn? Glenn and I met in Las Vegas. There's a whole, the whole thing is online, the story of it, because we, I was there
Starting point is 00:16:37 covering a very lighthearted entertainment piece, and he was at the time involved in another venture in DVD production and television production and kind of an investor and going there for that project. And it was the same event we were. kind of covering. And we met at the blackjack table later that night. But I was, okay, this is kind of, it was weird because I had just said that day, I am so happy being single. I never want to be married. I am so happy with who I am. I've got great friends. Great. I got my dog. I got a great job, a great career. I love my family. I don't need a man. I'm good.
Starting point is 00:17:14 That's exactly what every single woman needs to say right now. You really have to be okay with you. When you're okay with you, it's amazing what you attract. It's like you're a magnet for good. Like, you're just like, hey, I'm good. I'm in a good place. I'm happy. I'm never getting married.
Starting point is 00:17:29 Then Glenn sits next to me. And actually, it wasn't love at first sight. We kind of, we had this whole, he was wearing sunglasses inside, you know, kind of the light, clear ones. Yeah. Those are cool at the time. He's like, that was P.D. I was cool at the time.
Starting point is 00:17:43 That was cool. And I'm like, okay, shades. What's up Hollywood? And it was kind of that fun banter we had. And then I'll tell you what really did it for me. We parted ways. I never saw him again. He can tell you this side when you have him on here.
Starting point is 00:17:55 But he tracked me down because he saw me on TV. And he's like, is that the girl I was sitting next to? And that looks like, she got this really big mouth. I'm like, yeah, that's me. So he emailed, I didn't answer. Then he called the station in the general voicemail box. And we was like, if you're the girl I was sitting next to, long story short, he got tickets to Jimmy Buffett.
Starting point is 00:18:21 I'd never seen. I went to Orange County. We went out to dinner before the concert. And that night, I knew it was weird. I was 35. So I was later in life. And what really impressed me about Glenn, talk about integrity. You know, he wrote that book.
Starting point is 00:18:35 And he was so honest about his ex-wife and four kids, which was not on my list of the perfect man, if you will. But he was so refreshingly unapologetic about who he was and his life before me and that he had four kids and the clincher was. And I'll tell you all guys, listen to this. Do not bad mouth your ex because it doesn't make her look bad. It makes you look bad. And he was so respectful to her. She's the mother of my kids. I respect her. She will always be in my life. I put her first. And I was like, wow, that's a classy guy. Because I dated a few Hollywood nutcases who forgot to tell me they weren't divorced, you know, that type of thing. It was so refreshing to meet someone who was honest, had a stroke of character.
Starting point is 00:19:23 And a month later, I invited him home for Thanksgiving. And my parents met him and the family's like, he's the one, boom, six months in, we were engaged. A year later, we were married. I love that. I love that. Yeah. Wow. I know that went. You did right though. You married an amazing man, you know, and I admire Glenn so much. He's been, and now I get the benefit of, you know, getting his, like, direct mentorship and insight. You know, he's an awesome guy. He's been through a lot. I mean, I don't know if you read his book, but if you haven't, it really covers the arc of his life from just a lost kid. You know, he had dyslexia. He had ADD. He had reading. His parents were alcoholics when he had.
Starting point is 00:20:06 He was, you know, a child. He grew up in an environment. His whole family. I mean, he was in a really rough part of town. And then, you know, at 14, obviously, he didn't know better and got a girl pregnant. And that just changes your life. That could have been a direct path into the gutter, you know, but he somehow was able to pull himself up by the magic of a few people that just inserted themselves in his life to say, I believe in you. You know, that's so important when you're in a position to install or impart that moment of confidence on a kid who maybe might be insecure or not feel so good about themselves and be like, I believe in you. You're going to do something. You'll figure it out. You know, you don't have to change now, but you'll figure it out.
Starting point is 00:20:49 And he kind of got that advice. And that he wanted to live up to those mentors, their expectations. And that just kind of set forth a path of great success, overcame a lot of adversity, grew an incredible business. And, you know, then Stern. turned into a 30-year company with a very strong number one privately held in the country and then you know that whole story was really strong and I was really ancillary at that time I didn't get involved as much I'd go and do the Christmas parties I'd do the big events I did a lot of the human interaction stuff in the employee culture stuff so when kind came around when that came about that's when he asked me to be part of it he goes I really want you to be with me
Starting point is 00:21:31 on this journey together. Because we'd gone through two rounds of cancer that he fought through and won. He's six years clean and clear now, so he is considered cured. And it was a rough go for a while. And that was part of the impetus of selling the company at the time to Blackstone because it was he had health issues to deal with. And he did. And he took it head on and never complained and did exactly what the doctors told him
Starting point is 00:21:58 and did everything in addition to that and, you know, beat it. And then, you know, he'll probably tell you that he didn't follow the law of health the first time and kind of went back to his old habits, a lot of stress, probably eating too many chicken wings and French fries. And then, you know, it came back. So now he's very healthy now. Yeah, he's incredibly healthy now. He looks great. Really strong. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:22:22 Yeah. And I'm really proud of him. But what I want to ask, so he beats cancer. And then he goes, I want to do this show undercover billionaire. And I want to, and the show's about me basically, I'm going to get a hundred bucks and I'm going to go live in a car in Erie Pennsylvania. Yeah. What do you think, hon? Like, what is your response to that?
Starting point is 00:22:43 Well, the funny thing was, Joseph, we had done a show probably one year after we were married, we did this silly reality game show called the Real Gilligan's Island. It's nowhere online. You cannot find it. But it was for TBS. It was their top rated show at the time. But it was a reality game show where you had these. these castaways of the characters and we'd compete to be rescued off the island, whatever. Glenn won. He came in first place. Got a quarter million dollars. We started our family foundation.
Starting point is 00:23:11 He got a new car. It was like this really cool thing. And he was like, that was a fun challenge. Whatever. That was fun. But he's like, I'm not a TV guy. That's not my thing. But for years, people would come to him. Okay, I got this show idea. What do we do this? What do we do this? What do we take away all this and do that? And we put you here. And he's like, you know what? I got a show. If anyone wants to do show, I always get challenged about you just got lucky. You just got lucky. And he's like, it wasn't luck. It was freaking hard work. And so the idea was like, I'll show people. I can do it again. Like he had that confidence. He's like, put me anywhere. Put me anywhere. Anytown USA, I'll start over. I know I could do this again. I know I could do it again.
Starting point is 00:23:49 So that was the premise for that show. So finally, this idea floated around for many years. It was put in a way that Discovery said, you know what, Glenn Stearns, put your money where your mouth is. Let's do this. We're going to give you $100. We're going to give you this beat-up pickup track. You have to go to a city you've never been to. And you have to start a business you've never done. So he couldn't go back into real estate or mortgage.
Starting point is 00:24:15 He had to do something he'd never done before. I don't know. That was one of the things. So you can't do something you already know. That's the difference between season two with Grant and the other two. They all went into what they were. They told him the same thing. Grant's like, oh, no, I know marketing.
Starting point is 00:24:26 I'm going to do marketing. And so, yeah. The Grant Cardone only get $100, too? Yeah. They all got $100. Yeah. And a truck. Well, Grant found a really nice Jeep that he, and he got a nice motorhome.
Starting point is 00:24:37 He learned from Glenn what to do and what not to do. He was actually really clever. I love Grant Cardone telling the story about him getting so inspired to do the same challenge. Yeah. It was hard. And Grant did it in the height of COVID. And that was a real challenge because it shut down a lot of production. And there was a, he got COVID.
Starting point is 00:24:55 And, you know, Glenn also had some challenges. is when he filmed it because there's a scene where he goes to the hospital. And you may or may not know this about Glenn, but the second time he had cancer, they had to take out his epiglottis. And for those that don't know it in epiglottis is, it's the primary defense against choking. It's what covers your windpipe and your vocal cords when you swallow. So you don't choke. So nothing goes in your lungs. That's gone. So anything he swallows goes right on his vocal cords and it will go right in his lungs. So he would choke. He would aspirate. and he can die. So he can't eat. He can't swallow. He can't have water. He is fully 100% on a feeding tube.
Starting point is 00:25:34 And he jokes. He goes, I'm going to be the longest living cancer patient because I've never eaten so healthy. Because these shakes are super high quality and vegetable protein. And, you know, we give him fresh, press juices. And he's like, he's never done that before. So he's really healthy. Did he have cancer? Did he have to live like that when he did the show? Well, when he did the show, he was in the truck and he was he tried to eat cup of noodles in the show that was before he stopped eating completely but he ended up in the ER and that was a three day four day visit because he got aspiration pneumonia and it shut the production down and he's like I can't do this we're not watching a show about how I'm going to eat you know we're going to watch we're doing a show about building a
Starting point is 00:26:15 business I need so he he stopped eating he's like he stopped eating so that he wouldn't get sick and then he goes on to open a barbecue restaurant like he can't even eat the first food of the restaurant that he opened. So it's kind of an amazing story. Wow. I did not know that he wasn't allowed to eat in that show. So that just makes... He had to have his shakes. They would say, Glenn, we need you to get your shakes.
Starting point is 00:26:41 So he'd go and he'd have his shakes off camera. But the story wasn't about that. And he didn't want anyone of the people he was meeting to know that he did that. Because he didn't want anybody to have excuses. And he never uses excuses. And so the very last episode of the very last show, he reveals that he's had cancer and he's on a feeding tube. He's like, I'm alive, but this is what I deal with every day. This is my crutch, if you will.
Starting point is 00:27:07 This is the excuse I could use to not do what I want to do. He could have used it to not do the show, but he didn't. He's like, I'm going to do the show. I'm going to prove I can do it. And, you know, so. That just adds a whole, because I didn't, you know, I watched the season, and maybe I, but I didn't know that he did it all on a feeding tube. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:27 You don't see it. He does, it's never part of the show because he's like, that's not important part of this story. But, you know, it just shows that how resilient one can be and what one can overcome. You take a billionaire, you strip him of all his money. You give him a hundred bucks. His family, his luxuries, his everything. The shirt off his back, a warm coat, an old pickup truck to just get you around.
Starting point is 00:27:48 And you strip me of food too? Like, I just like, it's just. He, like I said, he did eat. He did have his food, but, you know, it's like he couldn't, he tried in the beginning to eat. He tried the cup of noodles. He tried to do it. He tried to taste. He was, there's a scene where he's in, um, that.
Starting point is 00:28:08 The truck eating. No, the other part. Yeah, that's when he had the cup of noodles. That's what I remember that. There's a scene where he was at another restaurant that he was like, wow, this called, um, I think it's, um, I can't remember the name, but something Hill barbecue. And it's like, they sell out every year. and he was trying their food, and you can see him chewing it.
Starting point is 00:28:27 But then off camera, he had to spit it out because he couldn't swallow it. He'd be sick again. So what he tasted, he's like, oh, this great. And then he had to spit it out. So you don't see that in there because it's just not part of the storyline per se.
Starting point is 00:28:39 It was, you know, you have to have a whole other story just explain what that was all about. But the idea was, I mean, they're filming 15 hours a day for 90 days to create eight episodes. I mean, imagine how much footage was in there they didn't use. So it was a grind and he almost gave up. He almost gave up.
Starting point is 00:28:58 But Glenn doesn't give up. Yeah, he does not give up. And he's coming back and he's like, he's already, you guys have grown so much as a company in a very short period of time, I think, to gain so much market share, B already recognizes the number four or five top wholesaler in the country. It's amazing. And I'm glad to be a part of your guys's success too. And we're going to continue to help skisker.
Starting point is 00:29:21 the kind platform as much as we can just because we are all about partnerships here. We're all about, you know, really getting closer to our partners, understanding their stories, understanding their goals, understanding how we can, you know, have a synergy between us. Because it's obviously, you know, we want to serve you guys and you guys do the same for us, and we appreciate that. Yeah. I mean, it's a win-win.
Starting point is 00:29:45 We've had really fun this time around. You know, after Glenn did the show, he just, he loved, he always says, I love being in the game. And that's what it was. He came back and he told Blackstone he was ready to, you know, hey, I can turn things around. But they're like, oh, no, Glenn, we're going into BK. Sorry. And he's like, what?
Starting point is 00:30:04 You know, that was a rough time because he really wasn't even running it. He wasn't not, he had sold it. He was just on the board of directors. And they decided to go BK. And he was like, oh, man, right at the same time the show came out. So he's got the Wall Street Journal calling, are you undercover billionaire or are you bankrupt? like what's gone? He's like, it's my name. They have my name. I have nothing to do with that. So it kind of, you know, Glenn thought about it for a minute because it wiped him out of everything
Starting point is 00:30:31 they owed him in the sale, everything that was due. And I understand it. He's not bitter. It's business. That's what they do. They're really good at doing that stuff. There's no ill will. It's just what it is. But he said, okay, now I have an opportunity. I don't have a non-compete anymore. I want to go back. I want to do this again. And I want to bring the people I always love the best of the best together. I'm going to create it. I want to call it kind. We need more kindness in the world. That's a fun way to make this mortgage space kind of stand out because, you know, mortgage, you've been in it long enough. It's a doggie dog. It can get rough. And the market can beat you up. So there's a lot of stress in this business. And he's like, why can't we have fun?
Starting point is 00:31:11 Let's have fun. Let's make fun of ourselves. Let's, you know, call it port of the quickie. Was it good for you? You know, so we have a lot of fun with our taglines, with our calls, with or employees, and culture is extremely important. And that's where I come in is part of the culture. I love it. I love what you're doing with the culture because the kind culture. Let's talk about that, actually. Describe to me the kind culture.
Starting point is 00:31:35 Well, you know. What makes it so amazing? It's a mindset. It really is a mindset. And I'll tell you, on the antithesis of that, kind can also be used against you. Like in one minute, they can be like, oh, you didn't take my loan.
Starting point is 00:31:48 That's not kind. Like no one's going to say, that's not. You know, your, no one else can use that moniker to describe an action of a company. So it kind of can go both ways with us. But at the end of the day, it's really just about, hey, we're here to help you. We're here to support you. It's servant leadership. We work for you and with you.
Starting point is 00:32:05 You don't work for us. This is a group. We're all in a team. We're working together. This isn't a competition within. We're competing on the outside because that's healthy in an industry to have competition. And, you know, he and Matt Ishbia have fun, fun. stuff together. I mean, they've gone to basketball games together. He's, you know, they always say,
Starting point is 00:32:25 I never had more fun when we were head to head. And Glenn's like, I'm coming for you, Matt. I'm coming for you. So it's been really fun and playful. But the kind culture is really, it's a currency that you can spend. You know, people, people work in their jobs to pay their rent, to pay their bills. But you're in your job eight hours a day or longer or weekends or nights. If you don't love the people you work with, if you don't love the relationships you have, it's a grind. So the idea is let's create friendships and relationships. Let's create a place where people are appreciated and celebrated and highlighted. We do kudos, kind kudos.
Starting point is 00:33:04 Hey, did someone in the company do something to help you today? Send a kudos. Not only you, not only the person receiving the kudos, but you will get entered into a contest. You guys win some prizes every week. We highlight all the kudos. everybody that was going above and beyond doing something nice for somebody. We celebrate birthdays. We celebrate anniversaries.
Starting point is 00:33:22 I do Kind TV, which is like a little mini TV show. I used to be in television, so it's kind of in my lane. And I highlight we do retail updates, wholesale updates. We do IT announcements. We do PeopleOps. What's going on? What do you need to know? It's all the news you need and want to know.
Starting point is 00:33:37 Then we do Kind Pets at the week. What's the funniest video? Here's a video hack. Here's our Kind employees in the news. Here's our kind employees on social media. Oh, this is so cool. We need to add some of that in our repertoire here. I'm hoping my team is taking notes right now. I'm saying. So, Kind TV is a lot of fun.
Starting point is 00:33:54 And the way we do a vibe call once a month, it's our very important business exchange, V-I-BE. And it's a company-wide Zoom call. Glenn and I get on. We go live in their studio and we're like, hey, company, here's what's going on. Here's the announcements you need to know. Here's who we're celebrating. Happy birthday to so-and-so, whatever.
Starting point is 00:34:12 Here's an update from IT. Here's the security stuff you need to know. It's less than 30 minutes. Glenn likes to tell jokes that totally berate me, and it's really funny. And I've got a whole salute coming at him for next month. But, you know, people love our chemistry because we riff each other a lot. And it's a lot of fun. And it's just spirited.
Starting point is 00:34:31 I usually, like St. Patty's Day, I'll be all dressed in green and try to throw some leprechaun hats on him. And we'll have fun with the themes. We do a Halloween Zoom costume contest for our whole company. It's the ugly sweater contest at the holidays. We do contests. We do highlight our employees. We do raffles. We give away sweaters.
Starting point is 00:34:51 for a company. We do scavenger hunts. We have our kind fun council. That's a group of employees who all are part. We just had one today. We're doing an Easter, like we're doing a holiday scavenger hunt. And so at the end of the week, we highlight. And then we all do a fun video together and we send up messages. And so it's constantly trying to find a ways to engage employees, highlight employees, and put the fun and funding. I mean, that's what we're all trying to do. I love that. Yeah. It's fun. It's fun. It's a fun. So fun and funding. So what, so you guys, you know, basically kind of retired after the Blackstone.
Starting point is 00:35:30 And you traveled the world on a big old yacht and then, you know, like, what do you think the biggest source of inspiration for going back into business was? Well, you know, we had, we picked up our family and moved to Jackson Hole, Wyoming while Glenn was going through his cancer. and that's where he recovered. That's where he went through his healing. And then from there, then we did the world voyage with our kids. We took our two little ones out of school, did homeschooling with my husband's ex-wife. You probably read that. But she was a teacher.
Starting point is 00:36:03 So we brought her along and she homeschooled the girls in the morning, three hours of school, then they'd be on a field trip. So we did that over a year and a half, hit 37, 40 countries, showed our kids the world. All six. That's six kids, right? Is it six or five? Well, the older ones, you know, they're already off. on their own in their 20s and above.
Starting point is 00:36:19 The youngest boy was working on the deck as a deck, like below deck. He was one of the crew. So, you know, we're like, no special treatment. You know, he's one of the crew. So Glenn is very adamant about that. He's like, I don't want my kids to have any special treatment. I love that. Yeah, I know I saw that.
Starting point is 00:36:35 I saw that. We went to the event at your house and he was part of the valet crew. Yeah, he's working. He's working. And he's a great kid and great morals and great values. And the oldest one had to mow lawns during, they both did. The two oldest, all mowed lawns. during high school to make money to go on trips and do things with their class. So we had them
Starting point is 00:36:52 invested in their own experiences. But so we did that. We had a wonderful trip with the family. The cancer came back. He did the show after the second time. And then he's like, okay, we're in Jackson. And then it was like, I just, I got this bug. I want to go back. I don't know what it is. I just want to, I want to get back into it. It just, he was like, stir crazy. He's like, in Jackson, he's like, I'm looking at the elk, the moose, and the deer and the owls. And I'm like, okay, beautiful. There's another fish jump in the lake. This is beautiful. I want more. You know, Glenn just can't sit still. He's a little ADD. He's always like moving. So picked up the kids, moved back, put them in school. And both of our kids were able to move up forward a grade.
Starting point is 00:37:36 They were very ambitious because the world travel. They'd seen a lot. And they moved up a grade. And now we're just back in it. Here we are. Sold the boat because we bought a land ship. And we're here. We're building a business again. And it's been fun. It's been really fun. That's so cool. It's such a great journey.
Starting point is 00:37:55 Yeah. And it's an inspiration. And those listening today are going to be like, wow. Like, what are my excuses? No excuses. There are no excuses. Like, why, like here Glenn is. He did it and is how old was he when he got back?
Starting point is 00:38:07 When he got back from the trip? No, when he got back into the business. Oh, I want to say 56. 56. Yeah, he just turned 60. He's cancer twice. He's cancer twice. Can't eat.
Starting point is 00:38:18 And started from nothing. And open to restaurant. You know, and if you talk about inspiration, like you go from, you know, like you're retired, just be cancer. And you don't need money. Like you just, you're hungry for win. You're hungry for the, he loves the game. He loves the game. And that's what it's about, you know, and that's what that's what it's about.
Starting point is 00:38:39 And as long as you're in it for the game, everything else follows. It does. Success follows. Money follows. Philanthropy follows. servitude follows. I think it all, you know, Joseph, I think at the end of the day, you have
Starting point is 00:38:52 to be, like you said, when you talked about earlier, you have to be kind to people. And I mean, I don't mean just the people who can do something for you. I mean everyone. Our daughters will stop, our little one will go up to a TSA. Oh, I like your hair. Oh, I like your nails. Oh, I like your color of your eyes. Like, she's
Starting point is 00:39:08 complimentary. That little compliment from a stranger changes their day. Like, I know our building the guy's His name is Justin. He managed, you know, he's down in the security. I'm like, hey, Justin. You know, just saying his name.
Starting point is 00:39:21 Makes him feel seen and heard and, you know, relevant and important. And it's those little things that just make people feel like a human and like, oh, okay, I matter. I exist. And we have the gal who cleans outside Rosalba. I'm always like, Buenos Aires Rosalba. She's like, oh, miss Minnie. And she's so happy. And she just loves her job.
Starting point is 00:39:45 and, you know, you just acknowledge these people. Thank you. It looks beautiful. Everything's so clean in here. You're doing a great job. You know, little things like that just go so far in the world. I want to talk about, like, because you are doing such a great job with your kids. Like, your son was serving at the valet.
Starting point is 00:40:02 Your other kids were, you know, cutting, mowing the lawns. Like, one thing I think is a big struggle for parents and parents listening. It's like, how do we make sure that our kids are. aren't like not spoiled by us as parents. How do we make sure that they have that same grit that, you know, Len and I have, right? How do we make sure that they maintain a servitude mentality? How do we make sure that the ways of this world don't corrupt their thoughts with, because too much money will destroy a child?
Starting point is 00:40:33 Drugs, alcohol. How much time, keep them broke and you keep them busy. Keep them like sports. Don't give them too much money. Keep them broke and busy. Yes. Keep them broke and busy. It's like.
Starting point is 00:40:42 Give them too much money and too much time. they're going to get in trouble. I mean, you give them too much allowance. We don't call it allowance. It's earnings. You earn it. You make your bed. You clean the cat. You walk the dog. I mean, some of these things are just being part of a family. Put your dishes in the sink. You read for 30 minutes a night. You do what you're supposed to do. Then you'll get some earnings. You know, that's how you don't just get it. It's not just in tight. You're just not a privilege. It's a, it's a right. It's a privilege. And you have to earn those earnings. So that's important to us. And as always has been. And there's no, we've told our kids, you're not getting anything in the will.
Starting point is 00:41:15 Make your own life. We're going to spend it all before we go. So, or it's going to charity. And it's going to charity. So we have a lot allocated towards charity. So they have no expectation that they're getting anything upon our departure. And so we don't have to watch our backs. But.
Starting point is 00:41:32 Really, you're not, you're saying you're not going to get this house. You're not going to get. It's all going into a trust. It's going to, you know, like we've set it up so that there will be, if something, in the event, something happened, they could come to trust the board with ideas. You got a business idea. You got a proposal for education. You got a post, you know, maybe you want to buy a house. You want to take a loan out from the trust. It's part of, you have access to this trust as to implement and improve your life, not to just piss away. So that's how we need to set up our trust. So you got a foundation. You want to start a
Starting point is 00:42:01 foundation. You want to start doing a charity event. You want to help the animal shelter, you know, pitch your cause. And then you can, you can partake. And that's kind of how we've set it up. I love that. I didn't even know I could set up the trust that way. It's kind of cool. Yeah, because you have a board of people that they'll be running their ideas by. How do you elect the board? Well, you find people, obviously you have your lawyer, family lawyer and family law,
Starting point is 00:42:22 and then they appoint people, certain people within your circle. Glenn's got YPO, his crew, and some friends who are helping with that. And, you know, you have backup people, too, in case they're not around. So you just have to keep changing it as time goes on and just making sure you tweak it. And we just want them to not have this expectation. that they're going to get all this. I want them to find their own path. And if you don't give it to them all,
Starting point is 00:42:46 they're going to hunger for it. If you give it, they don't hunger. Our friend, our family lawyer, really good friend, wrote a book called Entitlemania. For everything you give your child, you take something away. And the whole book is on the idea of raising children who aren't entitled and spoiled.
Starting point is 00:43:05 Like give them experiences, time with family. Give them a guiding light. Give them a philanthropy to follow. Give them a cause to be interested in. Glenn did this really cool thing about four years ago. He sat all the kids down. He goes, I'm going to give you guys each certain amount of cash. You're going to invest it.
Starting point is 00:43:24 You're going to follow the stock market. You're going to find the stocks that you're interested in the companies. And then every annually, you're going to give me an update. And at the end of the year, we're going to sit down with the whole family. We're going to run all the charts see how your investments are doing, how your stock portfolio looks? Down to our youngest, who was like, who how old was she? She was 10. So they got to pick their socks, you know, Disney, Nike, Apple, Amazon.
Starting point is 00:43:46 And some got really creative. Our oldest son got into Tesla early on, and he did some fun stuff with that. I mean, they were all looking and reading and educating. They got to talk to a financial advisor at the bank who helped them with the investment and where to allocate the funds. And then whatever they got over top of that, they could keep, you know. And as long as they checked in, if you didn't check in, if we had to chase you, you'll lose it. So it created a real responsibility and awareness of creating their own future.
Starting point is 00:44:13 You know, they all handled it differently. I'm not saying everything was perfect, but it was a really good model to start. Wow. Yeah, it was fun too. That was cool. Like, oh, who's ahead? We even, you know, with our grandchildren, two grandchildren, and they got involved too. And one of ours, our oldest one, did really well.
Starting point is 00:44:28 So. Grandchildren, how old is your oldest grandchild? 18 and 16. Grandchildren? Yes. Well, that was Glenn's daughter. He had at 14. Oh, wow.
Starting point is 00:44:36 So she and I were pregnant at the same. time. It's so funny. It's very father of the bride, right? Glenn's going to be a great grandpa. Oh, could be, could be. Good me. We're hoping. He could be a great grandpa soon. God bless. That's amazing. Amazing parental advice. Like you're really like diving deep. Now, you've seen so much success in your career. Like, what do you think the, what do you think the future of kind looks like to you. You know, we, Glenn has said this time around, I don't have an exit strategy, you know, before we did, before, he kind of saw that towards the end and he was like, I'm going to ring the bell. Someone values me. That was the whole, you know, the acquisition and it was kind of
Starting point is 00:45:18 exciting. And he will tell you that was probably the saddest day of his business life was, his whole life was selling that company at the time. He realized it was too far down the road. He couldn't undo it. And he's like, I don't think this is right. And he really tried to stay on board and keep it in the right direction. It's just, the culture changed. That's all, it's not bad or good. It just changed. So he's like, I want to build this. This is fun. It's a game and it's fun. And I love the people. And I love the people that work with us. I sit in our morning management meetings. Every Tuesday, we have our executive team meeting. And I just look around and I'm like, these are the best of the best. And they're really great people. And they're all doing their best.
Starting point is 00:46:00 and we're all trying to spread the message and inspire our teams. And, you know, it's not perfect. People get stressed. They do. That's just the nature of this business. But there's always reminders, okay, we are kind. You know, it just gives you a mindset to aspire to it. The first of the day, we're kind lending that already it puts you in the mindset of being
Starting point is 00:46:20 a certain way. So, you know, that's the head start you have when you start the day. And as far as where we want to go, you know, right now, sky's the limit. It's just fun building right now and, you know, showing people, look, we want, we're going to do this with integrity, transparency, we're going to do the best we can. A good deal is a state of mind. You know, sometimes it's not always about the rate game. Sometimes it's about the experience and a lot of the times is who's your person you're dealing with. Who's the person that you're on the phone with? It's going to see it all the way through to the end. That is the experience you're
Starting point is 00:46:55 paying for. And that's what you want at the end of the day. You may get the best price ever, but it was a painful, miserable journey because you were on the phone, checking this, resubmitting, resubmitting, I need this, looking for this. And, you know, you just don't, we don't want that to be your experience. That's what makes people happy.
Starting point is 00:47:12 Yeah, maybe I spend a little more on this place. I'm not saying, you know, we have great rates. We have great programs, really good stuff. But, you know, with it goes the mindset, experience, and the relationship. And we're just trying to make an impact in the industry. I love it. And you guys are.
Starting point is 00:47:28 You guys are making a huge impact. I think we need a partner because you are like impacting the social media world like a beast. You know, I definitely see a huge collaboration because the message and as I continue to kind of scale in the social media, the message at the end of the day for me is kindness. Yeah. And it's servitude. And it's like changing the framework. Like are we on social media to learn like evil? Are we on social media to like praise and do God's work?
Starting point is 00:47:58 There's so much good work on there, Joseph. I'm like, my algorithm has every day I'm getting inspiration and memes and fabulous and tidbits and poor Glenn is I'm like, look at this. How to be a good partner, a great marriage. We have this. Look at us. We're doing great, you know. I mean, I love the inspiration you can learn from these media. And that's what we should be using it for.
Starting point is 00:48:17 There's enough news out there that's bad and sad and like spread the good. That's what. Exactly. That's kind of the- That's what you're at they're doing. I love it. That's what I'm going to keep trying to do. That's the message I'm going to keep trying to portray.
Starting point is 00:48:31 And it's fun. It's another strategy. And it's another thing I check off on the box. One thing I want to ask you, because you've been through so much and you've accomplished so much. And then you got back into the space. And I know we covered it. But just I like hitting this and drilling in on this is what every morning you guys get up,
Starting point is 00:48:51 like how do you continue after all these years to find that motivation? The motivation to go to. work? The motivation to keep grinding every single day that you guys are grinding, you're grinding every day. And you don't need to. I don't know. I get a lot out of the interactions with the employees. I get out a lot out of highlighting our employees. I love that. If I wasn't doing that, what would I be doing? Like pulling my hair out, going to yoga, going to my spin class, your Pilates, lunch with the ladies. I mean, I do that sometimes still too. But to me, I like, like, I love going to the office. And look, we decorated the whole office. It's Easter. It's
Starting point is 00:49:31 everywhere. We got bunnies. It's fun. Or Thanksgiving or like Patty's Day. Like I love the decor. Like our office too, like when we moved in, it is not like any other office. Did you come over there? It's like, it is an explosion of everything. It's like yours. It's whimsical. It's fun. There's unique things to look at. It's, I go in every office. I ask employees, like the ones that have the offices. What do you like? What are your colors? What are you into what are this. So I get to decorate their office in a way that they like, not the way my designer decided to have our building look like. It's them. So they come into their office and feel surrounded by the things they love and images that inspire them. And, you know, that to me is rewarding.
Starting point is 00:50:13 Why wouldn't I do that every day? It fills my needs. It's a win-win. And Glenn, too, he just, he loves the game. He loves the game. You know, he's like, okay, when am I going to do this? And he's always looking, too, for ways to get the message out. And he wants to mentor. And he wants to And you know, the more of a platform you have, the more impact you can have. And if we can impact the world in a positive way, that's what we're trying to do. Just leave a mark, a good mark, you know, not a scar. We want to leave a mark. Big smiley face.
Starting point is 00:50:43 One thing I like to ask folks, because you guys have such a great organization, so many talented people that work at kind. How are you fostering and creating talent at kind? How are we fostering and create? Well, we often promote from within. We see talent. We see people that are leaps and bounds ahead of where they are. And I love this business because I love talking to employees. Like, I started as an LO. I was in the beginning and then I was, or I was in shipping. And then I said, and they came. So many of the people we have have have been through so many steps of the business. So they understand all aspects, all the hands that go into the process. And that, And that's fun to find people. And people, when I call them, I call every new employee. I, I'm calling
Starting point is 00:51:31 all our new hires this week. We got like 15 people this week. And I will be on the phone with every one of them, hey, how's your first week going? You know, how'd we find you? How'd you find us? How'd you get here? And where were you before? And tell me about yourself. What are you going to work for? What are your dreams? Like, you know, and we're excited you're here. Here's my, my surveys coming your way. You know, welcome to kind. And everyone's like, I've never had an owner call me to say welcome to the family. Like that's just, I'm like, why not? You know, so we just love cultivating a, I guess we just love being outliers in some respect. We just love doing what we do, not to be that, but just because that's in our nature. That's in my nature just to be happy and
Starting point is 00:52:14 spread love and a smile and make people feel good. And just, I don't know, we're just having fun. I love it. With all the success now, like, do you guys? think you're still taking big risks? Are you guys like, ah? You know what? Glenn is a risk taker. He always has been. I mean, for the last four years, we've been beat up. And I'm like, are you sure you want to keep going? You know, I believe in you. But I'm just checking. He's like, we're going. I'm going all in. I'm going all in. I mean, we met at a blackjack table. We're all about risk. And not afraid. I love that. Yeah. Yeah. And I'm like that. And I'm like that. too and my wife is like and people actually here at EMC like you're going to do you're going to just
Starting point is 00:52:57 give away marketing you're going to give away leads you can give away data you're going to give away technology yeah I'm just why not what we're doing it happens and it comes back to you somehow I mean it's not sometimes it's it's that whole thing of tithing I guess to you give you get there is a term that like you get you get you get you get as much as you give like the more you give you get more but you don't do it to get you do it because it's fun and you enjoy it and you do it to make a difference and somehow by default you get you get things come back back. A mentor of mine told me, it's like, just do God's work. You do God's work. He does your work. He does. He does. It's amazing. It's every single time. It's guaranteed. Like, don't worry. Just do it.
Starting point is 00:53:34 Glenn loves to say, one of his mentors would always say, it's not my money. This is God's money. Because if it was my money, I wouldn't spend it all. I wouldn't be giving it away. He's like, I'm too selfish for that. But this is God's money, and that's where it's going. And we're going to try to spread as much as we can and as much kindness and, you know, and I feel like the Lord wants you to be fruitful too. Like, you don't work hard not to bear fruit in the field that you've plowed. Like, that's part of love it. The more you plow, the more you grow fruit and your family is full and you can feed others. And, you know, that whole mindset, it's not about taking away from those that have made a lot because those that have done well are doing, giving it a way.
Starting point is 00:54:18 way. They're creating jobs. They're creating livelihoods. They're creating, you know, the economy and industry and more by doing what they do and their risk because not everybody is a risk taker. Not everybody's going to throw it all in the line. Those are unique. Those are the entrepreneurs. Yeah. Entrepreneurial spirit is a risk-taking spirit. They're the crazy ones. Yeah. They are the crazy. And thank God for the crazy ones because we all benefit. We all benefit from that. The crazy ones. And the crazier of an entrepreneur you are somehow. you're more successful. You are.
Starting point is 00:54:50 And you can fall really hard. And you fall really hard. But you get back up really fast. You don't use excuses. You don't give up. You never, never give up. Yeah, we're relentless. We're relentless.
Starting point is 00:55:01 You're a special breed. So I have a couple last questions. And, you know, they'll kind of strike you. So the first, it's a three-prong question. Well, before I actually start that, I do want to ask because I didn't get to know this. What are some of your guys' favorite hobbies, you and Glenn? Hobbies? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:55:25 And like, how do you guys unwind? Because you guys are... We never miss the sunset if we can. I'm always like, I will call him wherever. Hey, where are you? Look at the sun. Look at the sunset. Or I'll take a picture.
Starting point is 00:55:34 If he's traveling, saw the sunset today. Really? We also, it's kind of a cute story. When we met, one of the questions we'd asked each other is ourselves, can you see yourself sitting on a bench in your old ages, your golden years with this person. Can I see myself sitting on the bench with Glenn when I'm 90 looking back at our lives? And the answer we both said was yes. So when he proposed to me, he proposed to me on a bench. And every time we see a bench, wherever we go in the world, we take pictures on a bench. We'll have someone take a photo of us.
Starting point is 00:56:05 I have an album in 20 years. The amount of bench photos that we have from our travels all over the world is us everywhere on a bench and there's beautiful benches everywhere. So we make sure we find our benches. Always find the bench. That is so cool. That's pretty cool. And we love to look at our fish tank. We have really cool live coral and fish and it's very soothing. We love to watch the fish. We love to go bowling with the family. We started bowling league, stern strong. We all have bowling shirts. Where do you guys go bowling? We go to Lake Forest or Irvine lanes down here. That's cool. And we have a team. We go on Thursday night. And the family, it's like eight of us.
Starting point is 00:56:45 So sometimes it's four and they all. All sterns. All the, even the boys' girlfriends now have their stern strong. We all have nicknames on the back of our shirts. I don't do that too with the kids. We love bowling. It's such a fun family activity.
Starting point is 00:56:57 It is. Top golf is fun too. We don't do enough of that, but I love top of them. Yeah, it is. But bowling is easy and it's fun. It's right by us. Yeah, it's a north. And we all do that together.
Starting point is 00:57:06 Watch movies. Pinball. Glenn's a big pinball. We have pinball machines. Glenn was a pinball king back in the day. He heard. Heard the story, yeah. So we have a Gilligan's Island pinball game.
Starting point is 00:57:16 I bought him for his birthday. And we just played last night. He got like 10 million. I won the first game with like $8 million. So I did really good. So we're very competitive. So we'll come in the house. He's like, want to play a game?
Starting point is 00:57:27 I'm like, let's play a game. I'm a pinball two or three usually. Two out of three. It's usually two out of three. I had to ask because I knew you guys have a lot of, because he's just such a fun guy. He's so competitive too. I'm freaking mad sometimes. It's like, oh.
Starting point is 00:57:42 I just, oh, I always said about Glenn. They're like, how did you, what do you love or why do you guys make it work? I go, he's the first person I dated that didn't get on my nerves. He pisses me off sometimes, but he doesn't get on my nerves. But boy, can he make me mad. And it's good. Like, we get through conflict and, you know, it would be boring if we both thought the same thing and acted the same way. It's good.
Starting point is 00:58:06 There's a lot of fire. That's awesome. That's awesome. So this is the question I want to ask. So the first question is three-part question. What are your goals for this year? So what's a personal goal you have? What's a family goal that you have for the family?
Starting point is 00:58:21 And then what's a business goal that you have for kind? A personal goal? Well, I am trying to get into getting my 20s in every day. That has been hard to do. And I'm like, my tagline is like, no excuses. 20s every day. You know, and I just, I've been bad. I'm not doing it.
Starting point is 00:58:38 My goal is to be very consistent with that. And also, well, my sister-in-law had a traumatic brain injury in October, and we thought she was going to die. I saw that you post that and we were praying for her. Thank you. Thank you. She, I just got a video of her walking without a walker. It was so inspiring. She fell, right? She fell from her. She fell 20 feet on her face, on her left eye socket, crushed everything in here. Her zygomatic arch, her occipital. Her sight went, she can't see out of her left eye. can't hear out of her left ear. Even the doctor who, the ear doctor said, I've never seen a fracture that significant. She must have fallen for someone who's still alive. And so she's getting an ocular implant,
Starting point is 00:59:24 or, yeah, cochlear implant. So is Glenn's sister? My sister. Your sister. My brother's wife, I'm sorry. I consider her my sister. She's like family. She always has been. So we're going to go up and organize her house and get it ready for her to come home and just clean. and organize. I love doing that. I love organizing. So that's part of the personal to help with that. I just, I really wanted to do that with her nieces and stuff. And in my 20s, because we've been doing it for her. And then for the family, you know, our daughter's going off to Tanzania, our youngest is going to go this summer on a leadership adventure. And we just want to do a little more travel. We want to, we want to get to Switzerland. We have never been to Switzerland. I really want to
Starting point is 01:00:06 see the other daughter wants to study there. So, you know, we may take a family. trip. And I've got a high school kid. So really there's a goal to raise a decent, kind, functional human being who can graduate high school and have a life she's proud of. And that's really a family goal. The kids are all great. They've all turned out great. We've got really great kids. And business-wise, to the moon. We are going to the kind moon. I mean, we're going to land and plant the kind flag and fly it with pride. And, and, you know, and just try to make as many people smile and feel good as possible. Glenn's never going to stop.
Starting point is 01:00:47 He's just, he just goes for it. He'll go for it. I love Glenn. And I love you that I love that you came down here and you're spreading the message. I have one final question. Oh, I love these. When you're in front of the pearly gates, what's God going to tell you? What's God going to tell me?
Starting point is 01:01:05 He's going to say, come on in. We can see you. He's a lot of kindness in here. We got all sorts of kind angels around here. Let's party. And let's have some peanut butter cookies because I love peanut butter cookies. That's right. That's what it's about spreading kindness because that's at the end of the day when you're in front of the pearly gates.
Starting point is 01:01:23 That's all that matter. Just come on in, join the party. I just want to have join the party. I just, I want to be, I want to get in. I want to be on that list. I want the bouncer to move over and let me in. And I don't want to have to slip anybody any money to do it. Mindy you've been awesome such a great guest this was so fun it's great such a blessing and get to know you
