We got to almost stop calling it chunk wax because these cards are starting to hold some pretty, pretty significant value. It started with basketball inserts, and now it's blooded into baseball. And football's always the last one that it flows down to. I think people are realizing like these big guys' cards that have been underappreciated. Like, they're printing more than they printed. We're undervarying this stuff. Jack's rookies should be more than $3. Duncan's the same thing, Tim Duncan.

We have the iconic Bo Jackson card right here. iconic card, iconic player. Ironically, the two cards I picked last week's card and the suites card, both of them are from the junkwax era. Arguably not junkwax. I mean, they are, but they're not. And they aren't treated as such anymore. They've kind of stated their claim in the hobby.

But I could see a bunch more of these popping up as more people are realizing that these were generational players and they deserve more of that hype than what they maybe were getting at the time. I know and I've been digging through like the 50,000 card collection it's not I don't think it's a lot it's a lot it's thousands probably 20,000 30,000 collection and going through it the most well organized collection yeah all binders

whatever 70s like 74 to 2005 yeah and the most all football and like maybe 5% basketball. And so, and some of it,

like some of it worth absolutely nothing, as you know, a lot of it. And then a handful of things that have grading potential. And mainly just like cool stuff. I mean, it's like there's no,

I was hoping for, you know, nice, I don't know, Brady rookie perfect 10 or something. No, none of that. Some Brady, cool Brady cards that have some upside graded,

but not, nothing like that. But, A lot of inserts? Some. Some. I'm still going through it. I did just enough to, like, go, okay, I think I know Ruffwood's here made him an offer that, you know, may have had been favorable to us.

Well, I mean, it's a lot of worse. Yeah, it's not taking advantage of them. It's just more like, yeah, if you sold every one of these cards, you know how it is, man. I mean, you sold like all that shit. Oh, yeah, there's a million dollars with the cards here. Yeah, if someone had a million hours. to put into it. But time is money.

Time is money. You could bring all of them to the national next year and just let the $2 bin go through. That's mainly why I bought it. Honestly, we'll sell more in the dollar bins. And I wanted to get some variety in old cards and the kids who would come in and not be just like modern stuff.

So honestly. And then I did find a few things. Archie Griffin rookie, Lawrence Taylor rookies, Mike Singletary rookie. and sweetness, Walter Payton rookie. Probably seven or an eight, maybe, maybe. And that's a big card.

It's like 600 bucks. It's a cool card. And then didn't know it was even in there. Don't really know the value yet. Well, I do. Is it not a lot? Less than you'd think? Yes, less than you think.

I'll let y'all guess, actually. That's fun. Yeah. And what it's worth is what someone will pay for, this one. With me marketing it. Ryan's going to pay a lot for it. So I found a printing press plate

from 2005. Just staring at me in the binder. I had gone by this page like a hundred times, but it was just like so drab because I didn't know what it was. And it's Peyton Manning. And it's a one-on-one magenta printing plate from 2005 from Topps Total.

So a little bit about that. season. It's like a sheet of aluminum. Yeah. The Colts went 14 and 2. That was the first season that Peyton Manning beat Tom Brady.

However, they did not make it to they didn't make it to the Super Bowl or anything, but the year prior, Peyton Manning had gotten MVP. Oh. So, going up in value is where it's spoken.

Knowing all of that information, how much do you think that is worth? I didn't think it was actually, I thought it was a few hundred dollars. I mean, like, I just,

I had low expectations. Even though it's a one-on-one, I know, like, that was just a guess, a few hundred bucks. Okay. I would say 700.

Okay, so it's about $2.25. Okay. Is what it goes for. It's a weird product. There's not a whole lot of, to comp against, but.

Brian, all that means it's worth every bit of $700, like you said. Yeah. I mean, I mean, honestly, I can put $500 for the juice on this thing.

And it's not, there's not much, like, you can't go and really get them graded because they don't grade very well because they're. It says one of one on it, magenta one of one. So, and it has his name and his face on that aluminum. If you're a Peyton Manning fan, you should be embarrassed if you haven't already DMed me and getting your hands on this. So I actually posted about it yesterday and like within an hour already had somebody. Is it still available? It's not even on the website yet. Hold you.

See? I would hold that, man. Just hold it for a little bit. I think it's just a cool piece of history. I didn't think it was $10,000. I knew. No. Like, I just, I had low expectations.

You see the one of one and you're kind of like a little shell shocked. It's cool. I think I will hold on to it until I get a drive the offer up with my pretend to hold on to it. You know what else is that? You know what else is happening? I mean, like, interestingly in the hobby is like there's like a water. effect and it's happening to like inserts from the you know yes we got to almost stop calling it junk wax because like these cards are starting to hold some pretty pretty significant value but

it started with basketball inserts and now it's bled into baseball and football is always the last one that like that like it flows down to so i've seen like i've seen obviously like the griffy you know or the jordan's and all that blah blah blah that they're You know this realm better than me, Brian. I've got to send you some pictures of the stuff. And like I've looked up like the value, like no, no, it's crazy, but it's mainly football. And to your point, it's like those weird inserts that I swear if they're basketball,

they're like hundreds of dollars, you know, or maybe more. It's going to trickle down though. Football's going to trickle down. I mean, why wouldn't it? It's the most popular sport, like, almost in the world. I'll bring some of the next week on the show. Like, there's some, you know, the ones that, like, have acetate on one side and like, not on the other.

Like you can see through it, but it's the player. Yeah. Like stuff like that. I also saw like Marvel cards. I have a bunch of those. Like Spider-Man 10, like pop six. Like those are starting to go. So like it's, that's really healthy for the industry.

100%. That's actually a really interesting point. And kind of. Thank you, Bella. You're so welcome. I appreciate that. But kind of on that, Ryan wrote an editorial this week on the Shaquille O'Neal market,

as well as the Duncan market. If you want to kind of elaborate on that, if not I can. Yeah, no, I mean, the big man, it's kind of what Brian's saying, I think a little bit. Like, everybody's, everything's trickling down. Like, and I think people are realizing, like,

these big guys cards that, uh, have been underappreciated for how they're hollow flame players and their impact on the game. And, you know, some of these, you know, Shack's been in the news and different, he's always in the news because he's on TV with NBA coverage and all that stuff.

But it's, it's fascinating to me, even going through this collection and looking up the cards and somewhat related, it's like, this stuff is way undervalued, like way underpriced. Like, they're printing more than they printed.

They're printing, it's all the number for tops. Printing like 700 million or something. I'm like, the upper deck didn't sniff that number, I don't think. So, uh, It's been a lot. They've been in millions, but it wasn't that much. So we're undervarying this stuff.

If a new card, nobody's worth a dollar, Shaq's rookies should be more than $3, which they are now. Literally never made sense to me. Duncan's the same thing. Tim Duncan. Graves big meat of all the top. One of. You know, top of 10?

Top 15? Like, legitimately. And you know what else I saw too? And this may be Bella, this could be your like, is like all the like pop like cards like like the rappers and the singer like all the different people from the 90s are starting to like go you know go crazy but Bella you're probably too young for that but they're starting to do like the Nickelodeon cards like whatever Hannah Montana yeah yeah New kids on block Hannah Montana like they're starting to go up our friend you know who we know well

Evan Parker at Mantle, he wrote an article about it. And it's really pretty cool to see like it's starting to spread out. And it becomes individualized as opposed to be like, we're putting you in this pocket. And especially for a card shop, I would think. Like now you have more options for people. So I think it's pretty cool. No, I want to get my hands on some tops chrome Disney. I've been itching.

I've been itching. And somebody didn't order some. Hey, it's because we may or may not have a, you know, little surprise con. Yeah, but no, I agree with you. There's a lot of different verticals that they're taking, and I'm excited to see where they go next. And Tops has had a killer, Top slash Fanatics, has had a killer week in the hobby.

Got some big news with the Tops, Instant Packs. Yeah, Fanagics collect and then Instant Pax, which is really interesting. What are y'all's thoughts on the instant packs? I know you got a lot of thoughts.

Yeah, I mean, I bought some, and I thought it was awesome. They did a great job with it. I think it's fascinating. They've carted out 10% of the chrome black basketball that didn't get into distribution. And, you know, I can't blame them.

Like, hey, you don't have to print it or don't have to print the packaging, don't have to print the shipping. And you know that's a channel that's already moving. It's a little of slippery slope as far as how far that goes, but it's a hobby shop I think they know. And our place here is serving the customers on the ground floor

and the experience of that brings. But I can't blame them as a distribution point of getting into it more. And, you know, you're giving people the option. I mean, from a business point, smart as hell, you know. And the experience was slick. I did. I bought three packs. You get anything good?

What do they charge you? $100 for? All day? That's it? Yeah, that was it. And, you know, you paid, all they sold was hobby boxes of the black anyway. There's a $3.50 for the hobby box if you could get that price. And you got the two packs plus an auto.

So with this, you got one, four card pack or five cards? Four cards. Four cards. And you had like a one and three chance for an auto. I think I got two autos out of three packs. And they weren't, one was Brandon Miller for the Hornets. or Charlotte's team, who's actually a good player. But the UIUX, like all that, I was, you know, being in that space and having been

designing our own, you know, it's what you'd expect. I mean, they're, you know, top brand in the business. So it made me feel good about my experience, though, because I feel like it was different for us, but on par with kind of like the surprise and the delight and all that. But I don't know. It was fun. What do you think about that, Brian? I mean, you've been in this?

I mean, I think that, like, the ROI is much higher. I mean, yeah, a $350 hobby box, like, what is the true ROI? It's like, not much, right? Not $300. Your $100 pack, like, $100, you might get 50%. No package and no freight. Yeah, you get 50, you just, you know, 70% back and you feel great, and then you have a chance to win it. So I think they put a floor on it, which is great.

But, you know, I don't know if they have any big chase cards in there that motivate people to buy more than a couple of packs. Yeah, I mean, I think two numbered cards that were exclusive to that grouping. And then you had a chance to get any, like I guess they randomized it. You know, the way they do the packs now, I guess. And they put that over here that came out of the same randomization. So in theory, you have just as much chance to get the biggest hits in the digital packs. What I thought was interesting was I saw content creators in the hobby doing YouTube videos where typically they're sitting there opening packs, whatever, but they're opening the digital packs.

And it almost kind of, like I was sitting there kind of like, I don't know if I love that. Like I, it kind of takes away like a little bit of that human interaction of them just like sitting on their phone, opening the packs. And like you have the like the screen record of them doing it. But I don't know. I personally, it wasn't the kind of content that I would like to consume. Yeah, I mean, if I'm going to do that, I'll just do it, I'll just do it for myself. Like, I don't need like a big, big audience. And I think that'd be really boring.

I bet I, yeah, I wrote a second piece about this. Yeah, I'm writing a lot. I'm a writer first. So my thoughts were all. He got Stephen King back together. He's like Mark Twain. But I had this, and I've been thinking about this a lot before. even though they came out, which is basically breakers are in the honeyhole.

Not because they make money on the brakes. They're holding in physical possession, everything that comes out of them without taking the risk. Because they've pre-sold it off. Topps now gets first dibs at the best cards that get pulled because they're in their possession. Does it mean they're going to keep them from you? No. But they get the first right to offer, the first right to store, the first right to store, the first right to resale, they make money twice on every digital pack because as soon as you vault it,

you got to pay them to sell it. And it's a good, it's a reasonable fee, but Topps just doubled their, you know, like they reduced cost and doubled their profit centers. And I'm not saying like as a number, I was saying double the opportunity. Because they get to sell it twice. Because breaking is always old product that's already been, it's already been taken out of something, usually. You know, a lot of times like repacking is breaks of the new box is. Breaks of the new box is. you know, happening in that. But the breakers don't take advantage of this. Most of them don't.

But we will when we start doing big breaks, which is immediate buyback offers. Yeah. Because why wouldn't we? Because we can't, if I go to a show, I've got to pay 90 to 95% for the biggest hits there. That's how the market is.

If I can buy the biggest hits that come out of breaks for 60 to 70% because I've got time, place, value, immediate money for the seller. So everybody's winning. At the card show, we're all even 90, 95%, because there's so many people there, and no one's going to give it up for less than that. Nobody's going to sell a kaboom for 80%.

But if a kaboom hits in the middle of a break, and then the person that hit it, that paid $80 to get in and has a $8,000 car staring at them, why wouldn't they take 70% to not have to do with shipping, time, speculation, all that? So they win, immediate cash. And the breakers and the people that, so breakers are actually in a, a better spot than they realize sitting between the, as the holder of the card and the opportunity that brings. Yeah.

I mean, I would say, like, the only thing that I would, why I wouldn't do it, if how were you, like, if you hit a card like that, like, I want to see if I can, it grades out, right? And so that's why I would take it in possession because I'm like, I don't know if I want to sell it to you because if it's a freaking 10, like, I'm not. Then you just have a second option.

We get it graded and we share the profits. That would be funny. He wants to see how complicated he can make it live. I think anything can be automated. You know, take your chances. Everybody wants a chance, chance it. This is what I did with a kid in the store. He had a LeBron James rookie card that looks like it's probably a perfect 10,

but it's got a couple things. And I want it. If it's a 10, I want it personally in my collection. And he didn't really want to sell it. So I bought it from him for the exact PSA 9 and told him I would give him an extra 2 grand if it 10th. So they took the risk away from him. I took the risk. And I have some upside too.

But I left him in the game. And maybe he'll forget about it because he'll get it back in eight months. No, he did the Express. Yeah. It's worth it enough. Seven months. Yeah, yeah, yeah, exactly. Three days, four hours, and seven minutes.

The word express is all relative, you know? If I'm in the drive-thru at McDonald's, like, that's a different express than PSA. But the one thing about the buyback, Ryan, which is interesting, is you already, if they're going to sell it on eBay, you already have a 15% like kind of cushion, right? Exactly. So it's like, okay, you can, if you're going to say, if you're going to sell it, you. on eBay, go ahead and sell it. There's always to be guys that want to get it graded, like you said. If you and I do it,

we're thinking that and then a lot of other people. But there's another 50 or 60% that just would like that cash right then. 100%. Yep. And not enough breakers are taking advantage to that. What I think is interesting, you brought up like tops doing the buybacks. So at the national, they announced the like zero fees

if you do Fanatics cash instead of actual cash. Yeah. So then it's like three ways. that they're making money because they're now just giving you. Never leaves the ecosystem. Yes. Exactly.

I'm sure they're charging, like ComC, which no one really talks about them anymore, but they could just, they could do like a charge on getting Fanatics cash too. Like if you do a hundred bucks, you get 95 bucks of finance cash. But I don't know about that. Yeah. I don't know. I know, like, I'm just coming in a little tempered this time. But I'm excited for football. I'll tell you that. I'm tired of, like, I've watched every creator rip boxes. I've, you know, if, you know, like it's playing in the background and I'm working, I'm hearing the same things. And I don't watch that much TV. It's more like the radio.

Yeah, like hearing it. So I'm pumped for football. Yeah, so I was supposed to be in a fantasy draft with Jason, who we live break with, he invited me to do a dynasty fantasy group. And I didn't really understand what I was committing to. And then somehow I could see the draft. I could see everything, but I had no team and I missed the whole draft. And if that's not the most me story, I don't know what it is.

So I am no longer in a fantasy draft. And I'm actually kind of sad about it because I was so excited. You went undrafted. I went undrafted. I was so confused. And it was on Sleeper. I'd never used Sleeper before. I'd only ever use, like, ESPN.

I'm so out of the, I've done fantasy in like five years. I just don't have time to keep up with it. I was so excited. But I, you know, it's best because I would have had to do it for multiple years. And that's a lot of commitment. Yeah. So, yeah. It takes a fun out of it.

Sometimes, too, you're like, oh, I'm a Bears fan, but I'm going against, I had this guy, and I'm going against this guy, and I'm like, I had to stop that. I was like, I don't know, like, they just kept, like, canceling each other out. And then I'm like, what am I rooting for here? I don't even know. I want them to win, but, like, I want my fantasy guy to throw over a lot of yards, but the Bears to win 44 to 43 or whatever. And, yeah, I just got out of it, too.

And it's all at work. Yeah. Yeah. No, I was having to pay $30. Oh, come on. I should have had you like at least a free freebie. Like, I think you're like, they were trying to fill the spot there. They were literally.

I think it was probably so far down on the list of people to ask. Why didn't you do the automatic draft? I put it on auto draft, but for some reason it didn't create a team. No, I was witnessing the draft happening. And I'm like, oh, where's my team? There was no team. I don't know. I literally don't know.

But I think that was God's way of being like, You don't need this in your life. Yeah. You're going to lose. So, like, let's not. But, yeah. I don't know. That's funny.

I do know you have to bounce, Brian. I'm bouncing. Like, to your... Anything on the Lodex front, we can hit Brian before you get out of here. No, I think in the next couple weeks, we're going to have some cool stuff, some cool announcements. But right now we're just grinding, grinding, grinding. And waiting for folks. waiting for football, man.

That's going to be awesome. Yeah, the scans will start scanning, I imagine. I'm sure they've already started. It's like the first week of like Sunday, is it like Scan Central? How does that correlate like when it gets to the season? I know it goes, it's got to increase. It hops over Pokemon. That's really the first thing you see is just Pokemon will be the fourth most scanned

instead of the third and football will be. But yeah, you see that. I mean, there's no question around. releases, it's probably 20, 30% more scans. That's crazy. Yeah. Makes sense. All right.

Sitting in front of me, we have one of your favorite players, cards, and one of just the most iconic cards in the space. You know him. You love him. Mr. Bo Jackson. So this is our second episode of card history. and we have the iconic Bo Jackson card right here that, you know, redefined what it means to have cards and be just a generational player.

I know this is one of your favorites and you probably know everything about this card. Yes, I do. This was like my favorite card. It was 1990. I was a young lad. He's myself. A young lad. Collecting.

And Bo knows. Yes. Bo knows how to market. It's a great shot, black and white. And, you know, Bo Jackson is not, I mean, yeah, as the card and all that, but it's the greatest athlete, one of the greatest athletes of all time. To play football and baseball at an all-star level, all-pro level, like, transcended, you know, so many things.

You had the Nike area, you had Jordan going on. he was like the crossover for those sports. He had Jordan and basketball and Nike campaigns growing galore as Jordan started to transcend and winning his first few titles there in the early 90s and building up to six. And then Bo Jackson doing his thing got derailed by like many great athletes by some injuries but played two very difficult, very physical, one very physical, one very just technical and physical.

and physical too, running. And he's one of the only players of all time to play both of those at that level. Like Dion Sanders was the closest, probably second to do both of those sports at that level, and I think Bo was, I think, better overall. I don't even know. The football was ridiculous.

They're probably the most comparable between football. I think Bo was a better baseball player in his prime. But just an incredible card. iconic with the shoulder pads and the bat around it and the all-time chase card. And then I got this press proof just the national this year. I left, I mean, this is how they have. It's got proof and rare.

So I left that sticker on those. The stickers don't lie, you know, the yellow. The proofs in the put it. You know, the residue from it, whatever it is. But it was an SEC authentic card that was a press proof. Cool. I'd never seen one of these. I don't know.

Maybe there's millions of them in print, but I've never seen one. I've been the fair amount of places where I think I would have. I saw this like the last day, we were there in the afternoon on the floor. Yeah, you skibble the way. I was like, walk, I was like walk goodbye. And when I did like a, you know, like in a moment, like breaks, hard break. It's like, what is that? And proceeded to pick that up.

Yeah. Iconic card, iconic player. Greatest in my book, top three athletes of all time when he was in. his prom. And ironically, out of the two cards I picked last week's card and this week's card, both of them are from the junkwax era. Yeah. Both of them are arguably not junkwax. I mean, they are, but like, they're not. And they aren't treated as such anymore. They've kind of stated their claim in the hobby. But I think it's kind of tied into what we were talking about earlier. Like, I, I could see a bunch more of these popping up as, you know, more people are

realizing that these were generational players and they deserve kind of more of that hype than what they maybe were getting at the time. And Bo's crushing it with a battle arena. Yeah. So we saw that firsthand on the actual as well. We've talked about it on the show. Like, that product's, you know, it's killer to open. I've got some of it. Boys and now rip some every now and then. It's just so hard to get your hands on. You got the new Mahomes version of that product. And I am talking with some of the team over there. And they'll probably be coming on the show.
