He's had a crazy upbringing in part one, and he's just about to the point where it's all really about to fall apart. And right now he's sitting on top of the world. Things couldn't be better for Mike. But before we get to the, well, not the remaining, the middle part of Mike Tyson, because this will be a three-parter, I just want to quickly, quickly say thank say thank you first of all to everybody for everything

Starting point is 00:03:14 made personal ads for each other which are amazing so you need to hear that and then for small town murders which of course you get access to as well, we talked about the Lula Rich documentary on Amazon. And also mix that together with how multilevel marketing are cults and mix that with some. We basically layered in all the cult stuff. It's hard to explain, but it's really amazing. You can see how multilevel marketing uses language to bring you in just like a cult does and james talked me into watching a documentary about selling leggings there you go that's how wild it is and i watched the whole fucking thing it's crazy right page isn't that
Starting point is 00:03:55 lady wild the yeah and then i made it you're like listen with your leggings lady quit ripping people off your kids married each other yeah calm down patreon.com slash crime and sports is where you get all of that and of course you'll get a shout out because damn it we appreciate you and jimmy will mispronounce your name at the end of the show while trying his best to pronounce it properly and uh if you just want to get the shout out and to have great karma and of course course, our undying affection, you can do that very easily over at PayPal using our email address, crimeinsportsatgmail.com. That's it. That said, let's get into this because we have a whole just a heap and help and a shitload of show here for you as usual couple of updates from last week too that some things
Starting point is 00:04:46 that were unclear that i did further research into to clarify yeah number one tyson's father that was a huge thing that everybody was talking about this week yeah who the hell is his father why is he named tyson if his dad's name is kirk patrick and his mom's name is smith how does that work where who's tyson so there is a there is a sort of an explanation to this he says that he the kids were all told their biological father was jimmy curly kirkpatrick there but apparently mike says uh he was barely in the picture as time went on i heard rumors that curly was a pimp and that he used to extort ladies then all of a sudden he started calling himself deacon a deacon in the church so he went from a pimp to a preacher his
Starting point is 00:05:31 adoptive father he says quote curly this is his what he thinks was his dad curly would drive over to where we stayed periodically he and my mother never spoke to each other he just beeped the horn and we'd go down to meet him the kids would pile into his Cadillac and we thought we were going on an excursion to Coney Island or Brighton Beach, but he'd just drive us around for a few minutes, pull back up to our apartment building, give us some money, give my sister a kiss and shake me in my brother's hands and that was it. Maybe I'd see him in another year. What?
Starting point is 00:06:05 Thanks, Pop. So that's how it works, yeah. But I guess there was a guy named Purcell Tyson. There you go. Who's a different guy, and that's where that came from. He says that another time, he says, Curly was a pimp. Purcell was a humble Jamaican cab driver, so I desperately wanted to be the son of a pimp, because in my neighborhood
Starting point is 00:06:25 that carries weight that's way cooler well it is too i mean that's your dad's either that guy or he's some cab driver who nobody has any respect for and you know when you're a kid in a shit neighborhood that's that's a thing so that's brutal that's what he wanted there but good for percy thank you sir for uh giving us tyson because uh otherwise a lot to talk about who knows yeah who knows here what he would have been otherwise and uh the other thing is i found out because my father listened to the show and was like you know not only does your my stepmother's father he knew of tyson and custom auto he knew custom auto well and sent a bunch of fighters up to the cat skills to spar with mike
Starting point is 00:07:05 tyson so that's that's why when i was a kid growing up he was like the local guy because i'd hear him talking like oh yeah mike's doing good and he's coming up and he's going to be ready for this and that next and it was like oh yeah mike's good good for mike like it was mike was like a guy who we all you know knew and then he was holy shit he's the most famous guy in the world it was like oh wow it was cool it was fucking cool for you know kids around here experience with mike than i did yeah i got him when he was mainstream uh and hanging out with tupac and shit like that yeah the 90s yeah 80s 90s no this was like you know when he was a kid and when he was coming up and when he won the belt it was like holy shit mike tyson's the champ that's amazing so and and it's like that for everybody in the new york area because of either
Starting point is 00:07:50 if you're in like the boxing community quote unquote or if you were just like poor mike was the guy who made it you know what i'm saying like gives you a beacon of hope there's a reason why when he went to jail there were untold amounts of rap lyrics that had like bad things about this girl in it and shit like that like it was a people loved mike tyson so i found that out and i found out the guy who was going who was sent up that i talked to was a guy named jimmy walker who was a heavyweight boxer he was a big big like six four white guy and um i remember he came over my dad's house and they had dinner over there and stuff. And I was like, you know, eight.
Starting point is 00:08:28 And I was just like asking him 10 million Mike Tyson questions like, oh, my God, what's it like to fight Mike Tyson? And I was like, I'm a fighter, too. Yeah. Well, yeah. He said it was like getting hit with concrete blocks with him. And he was like, he's going to be the champ. And another thing I found out from a book i was reading not even about mike tyson this was a book about a completely different thing that somehow roped mike tyson's olympic trials into it and i was like wow this is great i need
Starting point is 00:08:54 this this week uh after he lost to henry tillman in the trials do you remember he lost twice and i found out why too apparently henry tillman was a light hitter but he was a really experienced amateur fighter that knew how to work the point system points the fuck out of you and he said he would tap tyson three little light jabs that mike wouldn't even sweat because they were just tap tap tap but the judges would count those as points absolutely and mike would rock him with a couple of shots but the judges would count them as the same as a tapping jab so in the olympic system it doesn't matter whereas mike was made for the pro game. He never got into that Olympic point scoring.
Starting point is 00:09:30 Points are based on how many points are in your body's reserve. And if three, four shots from Tyson decimates all your points that your body can handle. Yeah, like a video game. You see your bar going down. Yeah, that's what happens, man. Yeah, and that's what they did, too. They were, it was just a different thing. So, like Oscar De La Hoya's fights are always boring because he fought always like he was an amateur.
Starting point is 00:09:55 The pro game is judged a different way. It's judged on hurting a guy. Aggression counts. All that shit counts. So, it's a different deal. counts all that shit counts so it's a different deal um and i also found out that on february 20th 1986 two days before he won the heavyweight title against trevor burbick he apparently was in albany new york and uh sexually propositioned a female sales clerk at the mall at the mall don't go to chess king looking for pussy what are you doing mike tyson in an 80s mall
Starting point is 00:10:26 picking up a slice of sparrow oh man grab me a wet you want to taste mine head over to the sharper image and get somebody in one of those vibrating chairs so he allegedly became violent and abusive when she told him no and then later that that same night, he was kicked out of an Albany movie theater following a similar incident where he approached one of the movie theater employees in an aggressive way sexually. So do you think by chance Mike Tyson is the Mike Tyson we know today if he kept his sexual aggression under wraps? Or do you think he'd just be, you know what I mean? Like if he laid low and wasn't arrested all the fucking time, and especially for really awful shit like this, would we even know who he is? Would we know? Yeah, because he would have still been the youngest heavyweight champion of all time.
Starting point is 00:11:19 Yeah, but do you think that would wash away? Or do you think keeping his face in the spotlight kept him relevant for all these years? Now, yeah. I think the fact that we know every detail of his life for a long, long time is why he's relevant now. But he would have still been gigantic with being the youngest heavyweight champion. If he bit Evander Holyfield's ear off, everyone would have known who he was. But it wouldn't be like everybody knows everything about him now. Everybody has an impression of him.
Starting point is 00:11:50 He's like a – what's his Q rating? Like who the fuck doesn't know who Mike Tyson is? Yeah. Like honestly, young, old. Everybody knows who he is. Everybody's heard his name. Everybody knows who Mike – walk up to anybody on the street and say, what does Mike Tyson sound like?
Starting point is 00:12:07 Even a fucking 20-year-old person's going to go, they're going to know. Everybody knows Mike Tyson. It's just the way it is. Everybody knows he's got a lisp. That's a thing. That's it. Also, in September of 1988, which was kind of right where we left off, remember Laurie McNeil, who was a woman who he allegedly
Starting point is 00:12:25 groped at a club the year before near christmas uh she apparently is a professional tennis player which i did not know i apologize for that yeah she apparently was a very good professional tennis player and on september 12th you know eight months after mike was accused of groping her, he sends her a thousand roses to wish her good luck in the U.S. Open. Oh, boy. How aggressively creepy is that? It's arrogant. It's creepy. It's aggressive.
Starting point is 00:12:54 It's like... Remember me? I touched your vagina. Best of luck. I grabbed your ass. You tried to, you know, say something about it. Nothing came of it, so here's a bunch of roses. Like, that is fucking wild.
Starting point is 00:13:05 And then on September 21st of that year, this was before he October 2nd was the furniture out the window incident. So this is all around then. Apparently, reporters came to his house in New Jersey and he yelled at them and threw a Walkman at the cameraman. Hit him in the head with it. That's a brick. Tossed a Walkman out. Yeah. Back then. That's a that's heavy. Heavy son of a Walkman's like cameraman. Hit him in the head with it. That's a brick. Tossed a Walkman at it. Yeah, back then. That's heavy.
Starting point is 00:13:27 That's a heavy son of a bitch. A Walkman's like four pounds back then. Yeah, it's got eight batteries in it. Yeah, it's a lot. Eight C-cell batteries. It's a whole lot. An 88 Walkman. October 26, 1988, he gets a bill from Donald Trump for $2 million for services rendered in his role as advisor.
Starting point is 00:13:47 And he was like, what the fuck are you talking about? What the fuck did you advise? Mike claims he didn't advise jack shit. He fought at his arena, which there was no advising there, but apparently he wanted more money. So Tyson becomes partners with Don King at this point. And this is when the don king partnership solidifies and this is that's how he kind of he kind of uh gets don king to smooth that over that was kind of uh part of this was and there's accusations always back then that this was all orchestrated by don king to get mike tyson to come to him you know what i mean like
Starting point is 00:14:22 he got people to do this and then he would say i'll take care of you mike don't worry about it i'll take care of everything you don't need to worry about bills and setting up some sort of yeah some sort of i'm uh uh big brother type of thing yeah yeah just just i i'll take care of all this stuff you don't want all this stuff going on you have to negotiate with let let don king take care of it so you're gonna fight two million dollars with this guy i'll take care of it yeah that're going to fight $2 million with this guy? I'll take care of it. Yeah, that was kind of always the thought of Don King. And with Don, I mean, like we always say, conspiracies are bullshit. But with Don King, anything is possible, as we know.
Starting point is 00:14:55 Yeah, he's a bad man. He is. Wow. That's poof. So Givens, Robin Givens, is giving a deposition in late 1988, and she gives a quote about the Mike Tyson in Moscow incident where he chased the mother around and then hung off a balcony. She says, quote, at the peak of his manic state, Michael went down to the bar and started drinking vodka glass after glass like it was water yikes you don't want to angry drunken tyson he then returned to our room grabbed grabbed a handful of lithium and locked himself in the bathroom saying he was going to kill himself so that's
Starting point is 00:15:38 that's what ended up happening and then after that i guess is when he went buck wild and started hanging off of balconies and that's when security came and lithium and actual Russian vodka. Yeah, it's it's crazy. So he also declared she also said that was the point where she hired three bodyguards to protect her from her husband and stayed with them. If you need bodyguards, divorce. Yeah. Bodyguards. You shouldn't need bodyguards for your spouse.
Starting point is 00:16:03 That's that's a bad. Things are going wrong. And I have to address something because we got very I mean, I think it was one or two people that were mad at us for last episode, which was, you know, out of hundreds of thousands, one or two is fine that they were mad at us saying that we were victim blaming Robin Givens last week's episode. were victim blaming robin givens last week's episode and that couldn't be further from the truth uh we even said we even said yes robin givens seems like a real asshole because we only say that because i don't know everyone who ever knew her said she's a real asshole right i've never heard of a human being being booed at their college graduation because the whole class hates her. That's untold level of... But that aside... People are rooting against you in college, aren't they? What the fuck? This was before she was on TV or any of that shit,
Starting point is 00:16:53 so it wasn't like, oh, she's on head of the class, boo. It wasn't even that. But we also said, that is still no reason that anyone's allowed to hit you. You can be as big of an asshole as you want. People can choose to be with you or choose to not be with you, but what they can't choose to do is hit you. And they don't deserve to be hit no matter what.
Starting point is 00:17:11 So if you think just because two things can be factually correct, she can be an asshole and Mike Tyson could have hit her. Now, those things don't mean that one makes the other okay. That's not what we're saying we're saying that those two separate things exist she's an asshole and she got hit by mike dyson doesn't deserve to get hit by mike dyson we said lots of people are assholes and have been hit and i mean people still sided with the asshole because yeah because they weren't the one hitting that's the thing you're not allowed to hit that's where the line is drawn and you can't do that you just you can't hit people and that's
Starting point is 00:17:50 it period just reporting that everything that james has read uh about robin givens personally uh she's an asshole friends classmates people who have no like you know i mean it's just that's just the way just every person that's ever met robin givens thinks she's an asshole have you ever seen head of state with chris rock where chris rock becomes president okay now that movie has a recurring thing in it where robin givens is his girlfriend before he's makes anything of himself his life falls apart for a minute and she breaks up with him and then every time something good happens and things are good or going well for him she pops up out of nowhere and she's like i love you but we're gonna do this and that and he's like get her out of here security and then security takes her away
Starting point is 00:18:34 because and it's it's a funny character but the point of it is there's a reason why it's robin givens playing it it's that's the joke and she at least had enough of a sense of humor to realize that and play that role yeah i hope that she realized that it was making fun just do it but what i mean is we're not saying that robin given should be hit ever no one should be hit and mike tyson once it's not like he was a battered person that had nowhere to go he had 50 million dollars and the war he could have gone anywhere he wanted to he didn't need to stay in a house with someone who he felt the need to hit that's crazy and as big of a deal as he is at this point he's about to be bigger like he's yeah he's he's a he's an enormous star and he will make untold amounts more money because he's with don king now it's gonna happen yeah he
Starting point is 00:19:20 doesn't have to put up with this assholery. He's still undefeated. He's a unified heavyweight champion. I love that you said enormous star because the next story from December 16th, 1988 is about how fat Mike Tyson's gotten. He's getting bigger. He puts on like 40 pounds in between. Wow. Like when he has some time between fights, he eats like a monster, puts on a whole shitload of weight and then trains it all off. And yeah, here is something from the Glens Falls, New York newspaper here from 1988. It's I'll just quote it.
Starting point is 00:19:57 Quote, even as the waiter was sliding a plate of sushi for six onto the table, Mike Tyson was reaching for it the same way he reaches for whomever whomever is being placed before him in the ring with a hunger that is desperate there were 40 pieces of sushi on the plate and the heavyweight champion of the world inhaled all 40 of them almost before any of his dining companions were aware that the eats had arrived impatient unable to wait for refills he swiped a slice of cheesecake from the tray of a passing waiter it was rumored to be blueberry but uh it disappeared so fast no one could be sure fell down his face just inhaling it two dozen raw clams went down faster than michael spinks uh also two dozen steam clams followed then two plates of pasta with lobster and shrimp. This is a.
Starting point is 00:20:48 That is insane. And he's eating it in an order that's just bizarre. It's just however it comes. Just bring food and then I'll eat it all. Dessert was a large bowl of strawberries and cream. The liquid of choice was orange juice. Five glasses worth. Holy shit.
Starting point is 00:21:05 This was in some restaurant here. It's like $500 worth of food for one guy. Yeah, that's the thing. So he's getting fat is my point. They're saying that he would be, he says he's still going to be, you know, 215 or 219 next time he fights. No big deal. It's all good. He says, quote, I like to eat a lot.
Starting point is 00:21:30 I've always had a problem keeping my weight down. I'll be 215 or 219 by fight day. So he's like, it's all good. Good for him. Yeah. This was right after he fired Kevin Rooney when he made when he came with Don King. That that training group would have shot him for eating like this you know what i mean whereas yeah you know yeah january 1st 1989
Starting point is 00:21:53 mike is living in albany i don't know what the fuck he's doing in albany i know he likes the cat skills but he was living in albany for like a long time albany's a shithole i've been to albany it's a dump i mean you go there they had the knickerbocker arena which was a dump and that was like the only reason to go to albany so um unless you had state business so he's living there he's having some problems with neighbors so what he does is he buys the building and then evicts everybody it's an apartment building he bought the whole thing he bought the whole thing and evicts everybody. Is it an apartment building? He bought the whole thing.
Starting point is 00:22:26 He bought the whole thing and told everybody to get the fuck out. Because they were mad at him. Apparently they were complaining about shit that he was doing, so he just said, okay, fine, and bought it. Like Seinfeld did with that parking garage. That's also a theme for Mike's life, because he did that shit in Arizona, too, where he had the house with all the pigeons that were loud as fuck it's a it's a common thing with him he hates
Starting point is 00:22:48 neighbors he just lives his life and you you don't you don't tell mike how to how to how to go through day to day no he doesn't seem to care for that uh in general here january 13th 1989 he goes to see Robin Givens. They have a meetup here. Where? I think it was in Canada? No. Yes, Canada. It was at the Hotel Vancouver. They said, Mike, he got mad while he was visiting, and cameramen saw him, so he grabbed a photographer's camera and broke a television camera as well.
Starting point is 00:23:23 That'll do, yeah. Yeah, He said, turn that off. You guys are going to make me mad. Oh, it's just not, that is a threatening coming from Mike Dyson. So he,
Starting point is 00:23:35 uh, he apparently went down. Uh, he went to see her because she's filming a television movie there. And that was it. He just went to see her. Now she still has the $125 million libel suit against him. They're in the middle of divorce proceedings.
Starting point is 00:23:49 So they're wondering what's going on. A matchmaker named Al Braverman, he works for Don King, he said that Tyson, quote, couldn't resist going to see Givens. That's his wife. He wanted to see her, and he went. Okay. They said, I don't know whether they have affected a reconciliation or not but who knows uh givens was making a made for tv movie called the penthouse in which she plays the
Starting point is 00:24:13 part of a wealthy young woman held captive by a deranged childhood friend who has a history of throwing women off balconies what the fuck is that she played robin gibbons what yeah what throwing women off balconies a history of that how are yeah how do you develop a prison a history of that that should happen once that's your history that's it and then you talk about it from jail you got how many times you throw women off balconies how many chances can you get right if you live through that sentence the maximum is two usually i think if you can if you can live to throw another off a building yeah you probably aren't getting out of prison that wasn't an accident that first one oh my god so a member of the production staff said that tyson and givens were quote very affectionate when they were
Starting point is 00:25:01 together on the set so things are looking good for a reconciliation. A driver for the film production crew who took Tyson to the airport said, quote, he liked Vancouver and said it was a very clean city. He was very quiet when he was heading out to the airport. OK, that's great. He yelled at he yelled at cameraman. Now, the Braverman guy, he says that, you you know this is the second time that he's dropped everything to visit givens and all that sort of thing and he said yeah the reporter should leave him alone so what if he broke a camera right he said quote he's not a sean penn he doesn't look
Starting point is 00:25:37 to punch guys out because once he punches them they wouldn't be uh once he punches them out they wouldn't be coming back oh my god is that. Is that what Sean Penn's known for? Yeah, Sean Penn in the 80s when he was going out with Madonna and married to Madonna. Shitloads of coke. And beating up Madonna and all this sort of thing. They were the tabloid everything. So he was, yeah, he punched out. Back in the day, because we were watching the old SNLs a few months back, he hosted an SNL.
Starting point is 00:26:01 And that was part of his monologue, that he was punching out cameramen. And that was like, he was taking swings at cameramen all the time. I'm surprised somebody can't take a Sean Penn punch. He doesn't seem like a guy. He's not looking like a big guy. You'd definitely rather get hit by him than Mike Tyson, I would say. And Mike Tyson is so big at this point that a casual conversation in a taxi cab is fucking headline news where he said vancouver's clean it's in the newspaper that vancouver's clean according to mike tyson
Starting point is 00:26:31 he broke a sixty thousand dollar camera though so that's a it's a beta cam one of the news cameras they said uh quote tyson started coming right at me i turned my light out then i felt my camera getting ripped out of my hand. He grabbed my viewfinder and ripped it off and threw it to the ground. Finally, I broke free from him and made it through a revolving door. He's got a real short fuse. Yeah. He ripped the eyepiece off.
Starting point is 00:27:00 Yeah, he just tore it off and spiked it to the ground. Awesome. They did say they could probably fix the camera. It's not a big deal. They said that they told the police about about it we'll see what happens there they're gonna try to uh present him with a bill they said for the photographer for the other yeah a thousand dollars for that and then the still camera he broke is a 300 job so uh february 14th 1989 mike and rob Robin are divorced. It's official.
Starting point is 00:27:28 In the Dominican Republic, they get divorced. Why there? I don't know if you could do it faster. It's like they did it on vacation. Yeah, we'll go away. We'll have a nice vacation. We'll stop at the lawyer's office. We'll get divorced.
Starting point is 00:27:39 Let's go fishing, see how it goes. And if it's bad, we'll stop by the fucking divorce attorney. We'll frolic on the beach after we're done. It'll be nice. See how quality that frolic is. Turns out, bad frolic. That's amazing. So Mike is feeling reflective at this point after.
Starting point is 00:27:57 He's sparring. He's training. And they talk to him about the past. And he says, quote, it's no fun. past and he says quote it's no fun he said uh you think about when you were young and all the people who are around the people who are around and the people who had influence on you then you think they're not around anymore and you say what's the use to be happy anymore there's really no reason because that was the real fun you were happy when you were training and fighting then they would talk to you like if you were in a bad mood, they had a way they knew people. Whatever that I think he's talking about trainers and his mom and custom auto.
Starting point is 00:28:33 And yeah, yeah. He says, I was saying, you know, oh, man, you know, when you're a little boy, when I first started, I didn't like fighting, but I loved cuss. I wanted to make him happy, but I didn't like fighting. That's what he wanted. That's what he wanted. Champ. I didn't want fighting but i loved cuss i wanted to make him happy but i didn't like fighting that's what he wanted that's what he wanted champ i didn't want to let him down that's that's what he said here he said that he remembered custom auto telling him that someday times might get bad he said quote he would say you got to listen to me because i'm not going to be around forever but i was young at the time he always gave me credit for being smart but i never really thought about dying i always thought he was going to be around forever. But I was young at the time. He always gave me credit for being smart, but I never really thought about dying. I always thought he was going to live forever
Starting point is 00:29:08 or for long enough time to watch me become champ. He'd tell me every day, so many times a day, I wish I listened more. I was a young kid, 17, 18. I didn't listen as much as I should have. If Cuss was around, things would just be totally, totally different. Totally different.
Starting point is 00:29:25 I believe it. So his life is falling apart, and he's like, just if Cuss was around things would just be totally totally different totally different i believe so his life is falling apart and he's like if just if cuss was here he would yell at me and tell me to go he'd show me like our fucking rocky marciano film and then we'd talk about some stuff and i'd eat ice cream and go to bed and that would be the end of it but it's not that time anymore no it's not that was when he was an amateur and a kid and he was training and now he's like it's just gotten out of control and uh things are getting nuts i don't like being a grown-up i don't like no i don't like having the media up my ass and uh having everything i do be under a microscope and he says every day he thinks of custom auto he says quote what would he do in a situation what would he do but i can never put myself into his position. I mean, think like he thought I can never do it because he was just so much greater than I was.
Starting point is 00:30:09 If I ever had a problem or somebody was trying to hurt me, Cuss would be protective. You just stay here and he would attack the person. You just stay here. Let me at him. That's what we discussed in the first one. And that's what I think Don King. Because we discussed in the first one. And that's what I think Don King.
Starting point is 00:30:30 That's why Don King was he was magnetized to Don King because he was looking for that. He was looking for someone who would just say, remember, I said Don King said, hey, I'll take care of it. Let me add him. That's what he that's what he's looking for again. And he found someone who said he'd do that again. Right. He needs a patriarch of his life. He can't do it on his own he needs somebody to show him which is bananas because he in the ring he handles fucking everything that
Starting point is 00:30:50 yeah but life is so hard it's it's hard for him um yeah he said this is what he thinks about when he's running at 4 a.m and uh he says i see the newspaper man uh in the morning i see the newspaper man i see homeless people on the boardwalk, the guy on the radio station. I see him every morning. So he's out there. He says that he likes to go back to the mountains before each fight for early training and to relax back up to the Catskills. He says, quote, I see Camille and everybody. I've got my pigeon coop up there. He said, uh, you know, he's ready to go here. He says that, uh, he, until he came down, essentially he lived there until he moved, lived with his wife. He said, so I was living with this woman until I moved in with Robin Givens.
Starting point is 00:31:38 And, um, you know, that's how that goes. So his next opponent here is going to talk some, uh, talk about a little bit. Um, Frank Bruno is his next opponent and is going to talk some uh talk about a little bit um frank bruno is his next opponent and he's got a little bit of talking shit to do about mike tyson he thinks that all of these issues are going to be a very big distraction and are going to cause mike to be you know easily defeated okay so here we go uh he says quote deep down somewhere all of this is going to affect him along the line we're all human he says hopefully february february 25th he'll be there ready to fight this is bruno talking i won't talk about his private life because that's private but i pray he'll get madder and more frustrated and maybe lose control. So that's what he's doing.
Starting point is 00:32:25 February 25th, 1985 or 89, Las Vegas Hilton. He fights Frank Bruno, which for some reason I don't have the video of this, but he fights Frank Bruno, who is 32 and two coming in. Yeah. And 40 and five for his career. He's an Englishman, Frank Bruno. for his career he's an englishman frank bruno and this fight it goes to the fifth round but it maybe only lasted that long because bruno held him constantly constantly to the point of losing points for holding because he was just trying not to get the shit kicked out of him yeah he was yeah remembering all those words going oh my god how human am i ouch that hurts so finally called in
Starting point is 00:33:04 the fifth round with a TKO. And it was a beating. It was a pummeling. It wasn't close. No. It's like one of those football games. It's like 41-28, but it wasn't that close. It was really 41-13, and then the other team scored twice in garbage time.
Starting point is 00:33:17 And that's what happened. It was one of those when they had second stringers in playing prevent defense. It doesn't matter at all. No one cared. So he's 36-0 is Mike Tyson at this moment. Good Lord. March 27th, 89, things are getting better. Robin Givens drops the $125 million libel suit against him.
Starting point is 00:33:35 That looks good. That's good. I think they made a settlement. And Givens would never say what she got. It was reported that she got $10 million for Mike. But then later on, she says that she never got $10 million for Mike. And the reports were false. But he says, I gave her $10 million.
Starting point is 00:33:54 So who the fuck knows who got what? Here's the thing. We don't know. She got plenty. And we know that because where is she working right now? You know what I mean? How frequently do you see her she doesn't work no she doesn't well no i think she she does she's been working as an actress for a while yeah
Starting point is 00:34:10 she does well as an actress actually in right now i mean she's not a movie star but she she'll be in like a hallmark movie or i mean she has the same no no i don't know i mean 10 million with lawyers and all that she probably got you know that's not to last you the rest of your life when you're 23. That's funny. And you and you apparently take care of your mother. Why was her? OK, this is what I'll say again. 20 years older than you.
Starting point is 00:34:34 Nobody victim blaming anything. But what the fuck was her mother doing there? I guess because last episode, I didn't even think about it when we were talking about it, because you think her mother lives with them. And I think of an elderly woman. Yeah. I think of like Omar's grandma getting her church crown shot. The grandma from Family Matters. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:34:53 I'm seeing that. She was like 43. What the fuck? She doesn't need like assistance. Like, what are we talking about? Why is she living with you? It's like you living with Joey and his wife. It would make no sense who's my son is 14 so that would really make no sense but yeah that's what it would be right now it would be very weird and why don't you have something
Starting point is 00:35:15 going on happening anyway she working towards your pension get out of here yeah fuck so april 9th 1989 tyson is accused of striking a parking lot attendant three times with an open hand outside of a Los Angeles nightclub. Just paintbrushes some fucking poor parking lot attendant. Apparently, he was asked to move his Mercedes, Mike was, out of a spot reserved for the nightclub's owner. You know, Tyson just said, well, shit, I shit i own this joint fuck it everyone's waiting for me uh charges were later dropped due to a lack of witness cooperation so that didn't it was a here's my point as if you're a business owner the balls to ask the most important person in your club tonight to move his fucking car yeah i probably has a custom plate on it that says tyson or some derivative how about you leave that there because
Starting point is 00:36:11 that's a billboard that this place is cool enough for mike tyson yeah you need your fucking douchebag come on in and get your car there get your girlfriend's ass groped yeah and get out yeah park your car down the block as a fucking business owner to me that's like oh mike tyson's there let's go somewhere else anything could happen you know what i mean i'm not coming because mike tyson's there that would be a deterrent i think you you hate large crowds like that you don't want anything to do with that well especially at this time too every every other week he's groping somebody slapping somebody around i don't want to be around this guy he could snap at any point what are you going to do about it fight mike tyson good luck i don't
Starting point is 00:36:53 know how that's going to work so yeah you're right allegedly struck him three times uh a couple times in the stomach and he gave him the back of his hand so he just he just slapped this guy around which was awful uh but it was the palace nightclub and apparently nothing came of it so the wait is over so far you're not losing the only thing you're losing is my patience quickly i see that the queen of the courtroom is back i didn't do anything you wouldn't know the truth if it came up and slapped you in the face. I see he's not intimidated
Starting point is 00:37:27 by anything. I can fix that. New cases. She wanted to fight me. Leave her. A-long. Okay, so, um... This is not a so.
Starting point is 00:37:39 This is a period. Classic Judy. Did you sleep with her? Yes, Your Honor. You married his cousin. His brother. That's sleep with her? Yes, Your Honor. You married his cousin. His brother. That's not him. Yes, ma'am. I would make a beeline for the door.
Starting point is 00:37:52 The Emmy Award winning series returns. How did I know that? I have a crystal ball in my head. It's an all new season. It's streaming. You can say anything. Judy Justice. Only on Freebie. If you don't know when Crystal Pepsi was discontinued,
Starting point is 00:38:12 what was in Al Capone's vault, or which famous meteorologist is Lenny Kravitz's second cousin, then you haven't spent enough time on Wikipedia. But that's okay. Starting point is 00:38:41 We embark on a hyperlink rollercoaster as we start out on a Wikipedia page and go from link to link to link to link, careening through trivia, oddities, and unexpected connections until we collectively shout, how the hell did we get here? Follow WikiHole on the Wondery app or wherever
Starting point is 00:38:59 you get your podcasts. You can listen to WikiHole ad-free by joining Wondery Plus in the W wondry app or on apple podcasts april 26th 1989 mike gets a speeding ticket which who cares except for the fashion he got it in was kind of different um he's driving in downtown albany in a 30 mile an hour zone he's drag racing a lamborghini like no one's gonna fucking notice that right i've been to albany it's not a very big city you could drive 15 minutes and you are in the middle of goddamn nowhere you know what i'm saying you take it there and drag race
Starting point is 00:39:38 what are you doing drag racing around in front of the state capitol basically that's where you're the fuck out of here with that a lamborghini like that no one's gonna notice that people are looking at office windows is that a lamborghini down there holy shit it's going fast i mean everyone sees that the noise they make when you rev them is insane he's only caught he's lucky it's a 1989 lamborghini so brand new he's only caught going 71 in a 30. Wow. I don't know if they brought him down to that or if he was on his way up to a higher speed, and that's where he was clocked at when he saw a cop.
Starting point is 00:40:14 But that's April 26th. May 5th, 1989. This is three weeks. It's a week and a half later. It was May 19th or April 19th? April 26th was that oh shit and then may 5th he is caught again for the same exact thing in the same exact place drag racing a lamborghini in a 30 mile an hour zone we got caught see you next week i don't even
Starting point is 00:40:38 i don't even know what to say about that man that is uh that is fucking crazy so everybody right now in the 89 era after he beat michael spinks he was the big challenge everyone's like well who the fuck is mike tyson gonna even fight now it became a point where like they didn't know who he was gonna fight there's no challengers for him and they needed challengers because these fights nobody wants to pay 40 on pay-per-view to watch him beat somebody in 90 seconds that's not you know that's yeah that was the i mean i do i do there was a time during this period where they had deals for mike tyson pay-per-views where if the fight went less than around you would get half your money back or something like that i remember the deals with pay-per-view because so many people were
Starting point is 00:41:22 leery of buying the fights because they were like it's going to be fucking two minutes long i don't want they should they should fucking market it like that you know what i mean like market it that a man's head's going to explode in the ring before 10 000 people and on live on pay-per-view amazing we're we're slating 12 rounds for this shit he may only need 30 seconds how incredible is is that? But in 1989, $40 is a lot of money. That was a lot of money in 1989. That was like $120 an hour or something. That's a lot. So to pay that, that's a night.
Starting point is 00:41:56 You want everybody there. You've bought food. You have wings, and there's people. And for it to be over in two minutes is disappointing. Somebody got a babysitter for this. That's what the incentive should be. Your babysitter may only take you an hour. It'll be even cheaper.
Starting point is 00:42:10 You may only have to give that little girl $10 tonight. But, nah, that's not the best marketing when people want a whole night. I guess not. You're going to pay more for less. That's not what people want. You want to see a guy take blast blast to the face and body for 10 rounds before he gets knocked out no i want it in the first fucking round whichever guy does it i don't give a shit it's entertaining that way but you don't want to pay 40 for it no problem so i got
Starting point is 00:42:38 shit to do may 22nd 1989 a challenge an outside-the-box challenger steps forward. And this kind of dovetails perfectly with crime and sports because do you know who Tony Mandrich is? No. He is an offensive lineman drafted by the Green Bay Packers. Hilarious. And they made a giant deal out of Tony Mandrich because he loaded himself so full of steroids he was ready to explode and he set every record at the combine he was one of the first guys to figure out to train for the combine so he went to the combine roided up and have doing all the exercises that they had done
Starting point is 00:43:19 and blew it out the fucking water and set records. Just made his draft stock go up. He was an offensive lineman, and people were like, Tony Mandrich. And so the Green Bay Packers drafted him, and he ended up getting busted for the steroids, but ended up having a pretty decent NFL career after that. But everybody thinks of him as the biggest bust in the world because he was supposed to be the greatest offensive lineman of all time, and he turned into a serviceable NFL player. So but he's this giant guy. And he said and the Packers draft him.
Starting point is 00:43:53 But then they don't want to sign him for what he wants. Contract negotiations break down. So Mandrett said he wants to fight Mike Tyson. No boxing experience. This man has none. Fight Mike Tyson. No boxing experience. This man has none.
Starting point is 00:44:11 He's just a big, giant guy who would take about, I don't know, 14 seconds for Mike to annihilate. Just dismantle and take him apart. Yeah. Size isn't going to help you because once he hits you, you're fucked. Right. He says that he's going to proceed with plans to fight Mike Tyson if the Packers don't step up to the plate with the contract. Wow. to fight mike tyson if the packers don't step up to the plate with the contract wow he says that he would probably fight to sign mike signed to fight mike tyson within 10 days if progress hadn't been made on contract negotiations mandrich said quote if i can get 10 million i'll fight him
Starting point is 00:44:37 which and that was a big thing in the 80s everyone would be like shit i'll let him punch me for 10 million dollars i don't care. No, you wouldn't, because you wouldn't even know where to spend it, because you wouldn't remember your name. You wouldn't know that the world needs money after one shot from that guy. Mandrich was 6'5", 315 pounds at this point. That's a lot of man. Oh, and I mean, WWE fucking level, you know, jacked to the gills, had this giant, giant lats in his neck.
Starting point is 00:45:09 He was just ridiculous, this guy. And but still, if you're not a boxer, Mike Tyson is going to destroy you, period. He said, quote, I wish Green Bay would get off their rear end and sign me and get this Tyson thing out of the way. But if they're not going to quit screwing around, then'll fight tyson the longer they wait the closer i get to tyson i don't know what mike thought about that but i don't know man i guess that's what happens that's the cost of being the big the big man but like everybody's saying i'll fight that guy no you won't because a it's got to be sanctioned b he's got to agree to it there's so many things you can't you can't just say i'm going to fight mike today and yeah what what are you
Starting point is 00:45:47 talking about yeah you're not a contender you're not going to be that it would have to be an exhibition like they have now which back then no one would have paid money to watch and mike's going to take a chance on an exhibition with you that i mean not unless he's getting 30 million right what if you are good at this and you and he catches one from you? You give him 30 million. He'll come knock your ass out in 15 seconds. You don't give a shit. But otherwise. So July 21st, 1989, he fights Carl the Truth Williams and Carl learned the motherfucking truth. Let me tell you something. I remember watching this fight and I am going to show you this knockout. I remember watching this fight, and I am going to show you this knockout. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:46:27 Carl came into this fight very much. He had like, I'm going to stand up to Mike Tyson. And he had like this really, I'm going to get in his face. Compliment and slagger, yeah. The first time Mike hit him in the arm, his whole thing changed. He was like, holy shit. And he got all out of control and was all over the ring. And you can tell his whole game plan completely fucking fell apart like it was over with he hit me with a baseball bat what was
Starting point is 00:46:52 that yeah what the fuck so carl is 22 and 2 for his career ends up 30 and 10 he thinks that mike is a phony he says before the fight he's like i don't think mike is shit he says he thinks he's a phony a creation of media hype and the fact that challengers are always so scared of him and he said that i'm not scared i'm going to expose him he says for what the fuck he is he says quote mike tyson is more or less a myth you all made him this big he said i look at him and see nothing really all he's got going for him is intimidation and because of my background i cannot be intimidated so uh round one in a minute and 33 seconds he doesn't know if he's intimidated or not because he's unconscious so that's how long
Starting point is 00:47:39 that took uh let's see let me turn the monitor towards you jimmy if you roll your chair this way so i don't have to completely crank the fucking thing around. And here we go. Okay. Carl the Truth Williams. Let's watch this here as we watch our knockouts. Is that July or June? What is that?
Starting point is 00:47:55 Yeah, they spelled it Jewel. So there's Carl. Oh! Oh! My God. Was that in the throat? my god was that in the throat carl bent down to try to duck a punch and tyson whomped him with a left fucking hook slash uppercut and carl flew into the ropes let's do that one more time jimmy
Starting point is 00:48:16 jesus that looked like it was in his throat i think we should watch that one more time just because that was that was so hard he flew the thing is that he flew he like not he picked him up you know grown men shouldn't be lifted off their feet like a tree oh god look at him he's like what the fuck just happened we were in the middle of the ring a second ago whoa hey is he still? That's the look on his face. That guy, what's your... And then the ref calls it, and he puts his arms out like, what do you mean? I'm fine.
Starting point is 00:48:49 Are you kidding me? I just saw you die and come back to life, mister. You're out. He opened his mouth, and it wasn't a word. It was just noise that came out, and the ref was like, no, no more. What the fuck? He's like, what do you mean no more? Yeah, he's like what do you mean no more yeah he's like the ref asked him a question is now open and a and a clearly a voice came through
Starting point is 00:49:11 and whatever whatever was said the ref was like i can't allow it anymore unsatisfactory answer i'm sorry i will never sleep well again if i let this continue wow. So Carl learns the truth in a minute and 33 seconds. And Mike is 37 and 0. Truth is, you're out, sir. Wow, did he get thumped. Wait till you see Henry Tillman, the guy from the Olympics.
Starting point is 00:49:35 Wow. We'll see that one next. Tyson hit so fast, you couldn't tell where it landed in between his nose and his clavicle. Somewhere between his upper sternum and his hairline, a punch landed, and this guy flew into the ropes and was unconscious. All the energy threw him. That was crazy.
Starting point is 00:49:55 So August of 1989, this is the next month, he's moving out of his mansion that he used to live in with Robin Givens. He's getting all of his shit out. He's selling it. He says, you know, this is all the times, my unhappiest moments were here. I got to get rid of it. It's a five-bedroom Victorian Gothic mansion on the market then for $8 million. Wow. In 1989.
Starting point is 00:50:17 That's a $35 million house today. That is crazy. So, yeah, he says that he hasn't spent much time there, and he might as well get rid of it. They bought the place for $4.3 million and spent another $1.9 million for an adjoining piece of property. So this includes- Just for the land. Just for the land, so no one would build anything on it, so they could have privacy and he could have pigeons and shit. But he keeps those in Albany, so I don't know.
Starting point is 00:50:43 Privacy, and he could have pigeons and shit, but he keeps those in Albany, so I don't know. October of 1989, there is two women in New Jersey start a Mike Tyson support group. What? And they're dead serious. It's a support group for what they call embattled heavyweight champ Mike Tyson, and they're encouraging fans to write letters of encouragement to him. Today, this is the Facebook facebook that he can go read yeah and the other thing too back then the thing about mike too i think is a that he was the youngest heavyweight champ so he's almost like doogie howser like he's a child star so like we
Starting point is 00:51:15 watched him grow up so it's kind of like a lot of the people gave michael jackson a pass because they watched him grow up and like we knew him for so long and he's got a high pitch voice and he talks funny. So they almost look at Mike as if he's a child, which he's not at all. He's Mike's a smart guy. He's not, he lacks nothing in intelligence. He just talks kind of funny,
Starting point is 00:51:35 which may, if he, if he had your voice and just spoke, no one would treat him like that. But the fact that he, it makes him like, Oh, he's this like child,
Starting point is 00:51:44 you know, like, uh, and he's the most imitate. Like we said, the Simpsons around this time come out with Drederick Tatum. Yeah. Who is Mike Tyson? It was just a Mike Tyson cartoon. Everybody that does impressions, though, has a Mike Tyson. And it's so easy to do.
Starting point is 00:51:59 He's like Schwarzenegger with a lisp. Yeah. Just like Schwarzenegger. He's the most one of the most imitated people there is for that. This is one of the women here, Gina Turner, who started the group. She said, quote, I felt he needed some support and that it was important for him to know that people everywhere loved him and cared about his situation. She is a 29 year old housewife and her and her substitute teacher friend, Linda Graves, started this. They watched a recent TV interview.
Starting point is 00:52:28 They watched the Robin Gibbons interview with him saying that he was manic depressive and that living with him was frightening and that the divorce and all that. Well, that's what she said, sitting right next to it. Yeah. So Gina Turner says, quote, on national TV, he was sitting there like a little kid. See what I mean? Uh huh. See what I'm saying? Being emasculated by his wife. Yeah. So Gina Turner says, quote, on national TV, he was sitting there like a little kid. See what I mean? Uh huh. See what I'm saying? Being emasculated by his wife. Yeah. And so there's a certain group of women that are attracted to they want to take care of him and help him and fix him.
Starting point is 00:52:56 You know, he was very, very hurt. My heart just went out for him as if I had known him personally. He was very, very hurt hearing that he beat his wife up you beat your wife up you should be heard about that that's not i don't feel bad for you for that destroyed inside yeah so he's got support he's got letter writing he is uh as you see pummeling the shit out of people oh boy he's at the peak of his strength but mike is not he's got a new trainer he's got doesn't have Kevin Rooney anymore. He's eaten 40 pieces of sushi and blueberry cheesecake. He's not in the greatest shape of his life for his next fight.
Starting point is 00:53:37 And I've never seen Mike look more lackluster. February 11th, 1990, Tokyo Dome. He's fighting James Buster Douglas. And this fight... Tokyo Dome in Atlanta? Tokyo Dome, he's fighting James Buster Douglas. And this fight... Tokyo Dome in Atlanta? Tokyo Dome, Atlanta, Georgia. Tokyo Dome, Tampa, Florida. Buster is a 28-4-1 fighter.
Starting point is 00:54:03 So he's not a top contender, but there's really nobody else left to fight. He's kind of an afterthought. Nobody really cares about him. Mike hasn't, you know, there's not a lot of real, you know, it's a word I'm looking for here. He's not really talking a whole bunch of shit before the fight. Not a lot of hyperbole. Mike just kind of comes in with all of this stuff we just described going on in his life right now. in with all of this stuff we just described going on in his life right now and he's very much he almost looks like he took like a couple of ambien before the fight and then was just like or he took some ambien but only slept for like four hours and then woke up and they were like mike you got
Starting point is 00:54:36 a fight and he was like okay and he's just wandering around in kind of a haze that's the yeah even his pre-fight he didn't look right and I watched this fight as a kid live on HBO with my dad and I remember saying Mike doesn't look right what's up with Mike he doesn't look whatever and we were just like ah who cares he's confident I mean he's fighting Buster Douglas who gives a shit he's fighting Buster Douglas and we used to predict how long the fights would last and all this shit we'd watch Tyson how long is it going to take tyson to knock this guy out and we all did it and right so this though turns out he comes out and he's just not himself his aggression is not there he's not mike cuts the ring off is what he does he's got that dip and dodge style he's ducking his head he takes big
Starting point is 00:55:20 steps that cut the ring off you know what i mean almost like a basketball player when they're down low they can take a big step and now they have this this space yeah they have all the space because if the guy you know comes into them it's a foul so then they've made a lot of space for themselves with a big step and it's it's the same thing in boxing you want to cut the ring off and mike was very good at trapping you in a place and then whopping on you so and then throwing a big hook or whatever the fuck that yeah levels you yeah buster he's just not active buster's hitting him and mike's just not active he's just not i mean his punches look a beat slow they look like he's like oh yeah i'm supposed to punch now punch and then he's they just look a beat slow and it just never looks good
Starting point is 00:56:02 finally so mike's getting i mean the, the whole, the first seven rounds, I think I'd probably give Buster five of them, I would say, if not six. Like, he was dominating the fight. And then in the eighth round, Mike hits Buster with a Mike Tyson shot and fucking levels him. Buster goes down, and we're like, oh, okay, that's the end of it. The ref takes forever, and I'll okay that's the end of it what the ref takes forever and i'll say this for the rest of my life the ref takes forever to start counting douglas out forever
Starting point is 00:56:35 i mean 10 seconds before he starts his 10 dude we were like count fucking count and he just finally went over there and by then buster was getting his shit together and he got up in the eighth round he was fucking done buster unloaded on him for the entire fight everything he had and tyson took it mike hit him with one decent shot in eight rounds and buster crumpled like a fucking paper bag it was it was obvious that these fighters are not the same class but then after that mike went right back to his just standing here and buster hit him and hit him and hit him and hit him and finally round 10 he knocked mike tyson out knocked him down mike went out mouthpiece fell out of his mouth. I mean, it was like, and he even looked confused. Like, what am I doing down here?
Starting point is 00:57:25 Like, he didn't. And the way he did it, the way he got up, the way his mannerisms were, it's almost like he wasn't there. Like, he was in some kind of fucking daze or something. I don't know what it is. I don't know if, I don't know, man. I don't know if he was, like, took too many antidepressants that day or I don't know what the fuck it was but i've never ever to this day seen mike tyson fight like this before i don't know i don't know what it was i really don't i don't know if he like almost like if he was this was like his version of driving his bmw into the tree i don't know if this was you know what i'm
Starting point is 00:58:02 saying like this was his way of what if i just didn't fight what if I didn't fight really well right now what would happen what if I just let this guy fucking punch me and what if I lost this fight but he and you can ask yourself what's the benefit of that but that's what he was trying to figure out yeah I don't think he was something was up here I can't get in his mind but I this was the weirdest I've ever seen here so that's the first loss for Mike Tyson and this is about the biggest thing in the history. Yeah. This is the biggest upset in the history. This is a 1980 miracle on ice.
Starting point is 00:58:32 This is that level of upset. Even jokes that were told were crazy. It was it was in everybody's mouth everywhere. This might have been. I think this was honestly a bigger thing than the miracle on ice or any of that i really do i think this was a bigger fucking upset this was buster was like a 30 fucking five to one underdog or some shit like he was a crazy or 12 to some ridiculous underdog they weren't even people weren't even taking bets anymore i heard in certain places on the result
Starting point is 00:59:02 of the fight they were just taking bets on how long it would go because that's yeah because no one would bet on buster douglas yeah it was just that's how they could get people to bet on buster it was fucking it was wild man this was a huge huge deal mike was supposed to be doing a thing for wwf now wwe obviously but at the time wwf right after this fight the next week he was supposed to fight he was supposed to come in and do a thing with wwf right and because he lost they cancel it they canned it they were like what the fuck do we do now yeah and they were like well we can't we're not gonna have him on after he lost i guess but the tyson camp called them and said and canceled it
Starting point is 00:59:45 so they were like okay we didn't have to deal with that so they sent somebody to go meet uh buster douglas's plane as it landed from fucking tokyo to offer him the part where tyson was going to be the next week he's the champ yeah so he did it so buster douglas i believe is a saturday night's main event on wwf buster douglas i mean if if tyson was being talked about as a joke and not taken seriously now if if he does a wwe thing he's certainly going to be a laughingstock yeah and he just knew that wasn't the time everyone just everyone just wanted to get a look at him and see if he was beat up looking and all that shit so uh buster ended up doing that and then buster went on to have the sega genesis buster douglas boxing which ended up being a giant hit for him and uh made a lot of money and
Starting point is 01:00:31 sure buster ended up uh gaining a shitload of weight and looking like a fat slob in his next fight and getting the shit pounded out of him and losing immediately and finishing his career 37 six and one and just you know kind of uh but he beat mike tyson but he beat he's he has the biggest upset in the history of boxing you know that's it is that's the one rego any given sunday you know who beat him do you know holyfield knocked the shit out oh holyfield did yeah yeah holyfield because yeah we'll get to that so mid-february 1990 yeah holyfield beats him becomes champ and then tyson holyfield is the fight that that's the one that everybody wants it's the going to be the biggest fight in history and then we'll talk about what happens here mid-february 1990 he is accused of paternity
Starting point is 01:01:19 which is going to happen a few times yeah this is a Los Angeles dancer named Trina Archie, who's 22, said that Tyson is the father of her infant son, and he does not acknowledge paternity there, and we'll talk about all that, how that works out. So he just lost. Somebody says he's got a kid, and then February 21st, just 10 days after the fight, his 24-year- old sister dies of an apparent
Starting point is 01:01:47 heart attack and this absolutely devastates mike this is a sister that was sick all the time yeah that was sick all the time and the one that he was he was very close to her too this was he was like the closest to this sister of anybody in his family and uh she's only 24 for christ's sake horrible i mean they're almost the same age i think they're a year apart so you can imagine this sister of anybody in his family. And, uh, she's only 24 for Christ's sake. Horrible. I mean, they're almost the same age. I think they're a year apart. So you can imagine how close they are. She dies.
Starting point is 01:02:10 So Mike is just, he lost it all. Everybody's making fun of him. You know, they're either calling him a loser or a wife beater, which I mean, he lost and he beat his wife. So that's fair.
Starting point is 01:02:20 Both are accurate. Both are accurate. Um, you know, he, people are saying he's got kids. He's got to deal with that. Now he's got his sister's dead of a heart attack.
Starting point is 01:02:27 And no matter how shitty of a person he's being, you don't want anybody to die. Obviously, that's going to be hard. So May 4th, 1990, there is a baby in the picture. Mike, there's another baby. He actually brought this young lady, 24-year-old Natalie Fears. He brought her to the Catskills to have the baby. So he's saying, this is my baby now. And he says, quote, I'm very happy to be having a family.
Starting point is 01:02:54 So he is all on board for this baby. Absolutely. The baby was born. He says that he has no plans to marry her right away yeah fears but he's going to buy a house in los angeles and support the child and you know set everybody up there okay he brought her from uh the woman natalie fears from los angeles to the catskills for several months where she was staying with camille wall the woman who raised him to take care of her and the baby and he's you know this is his like to, this is a family environment.
Starting point is 01:03:27 And he's, like, feeling like this is something good that he's doing here, which is nice. How awesome is that? It's nice. It's probably the only time he's felt like this in a long time. So that's good. So he's training, so he wasn't able to see his son because he's in training for a fight
Starting point is 01:03:44 because the son is born, like like a month before the fight. So he's in training for this fight, so he hasn't seen his son anyway. This fight, June 16, 1990, Caesars Palace in Las Vegas. He fights Henry Tillman, who you might recognize from the last episode. Oh, that was the other thing, too. might recognize from the last episode uh oh that was the other thing too i meant to say henry tillman who outpointed him made mike so mad when he lost the tournament for the olympic trials he would not accept his his trophy for second place instead marched out of the arena walked through the parking lot across a field and found a tree to beat the shit out of customato said wow he found him out there they
Starting point is 01:04:26 went looking for him and he was out there just fucking wailing on a tree like it was a heavy bag but with a tree tore his fucking hands up just ripping it apart beating the shit out of it crying there's a tears coming out of his eyes just punching the shit out of this tree because he was so frustrated that he couldn't win yeah i think it was a cedar maybe possibly possibly a cedar so some betting for his fucking pigeons he's like god damn it you're gonna be in my hamster cage so uh henry tillman he's fighting this guy you want to talk about revenge this is the only guy besides buster to beat tyson and this guy's the only guy to beat him twice though that's the thing thwarted his Olympic dreams and he just lost a fight his sister died I don't want to be Henry Tillman put it that way anywhere near Mike Tyson in terms of competing with my fix not if
Starting point is 01:05:17 he's allowed to punch me I don't want to be involved in this so he gets to punch back this is bad uh Henry Tillman's 20 and 4 and so i mean he like i said they'll beat tyson twice this is in the first round at 2 minutes and 47 seconds jimmy if you don't mind rolling your chair i will turn we'll do that and let's have a look see at old henry tillman this is one of the craziest but i think he just exploded his skull on this one there they are they're hugging tillman's like oh shit no head gear now this is rough oh dear lord his leg oh jesus christ look at that that man is out he's snoring he hit him with a right hand like a right hook on top of the head right he didn't you see a guy go down from a jaw a face a temple he hit him on top of the head right he didn't put you see a guy go down from a jaw a face a temple he hit him
Starting point is 01:06:06 on top of the head like he like a kid thumping you with a squeaky hammer like in the cartoons and use a mallet broke his brain look at that man he's not only out his eyes are closed the left jab at the body that he uh clearly was paying attention to and mike came around with that right one more time let's get a replay here i love the clear out the wrap he's hugging okay this guy's like all right i'm gonna do this i'm gonna get him left holy shit his leg twisted under him and collapsed under him uh whoa he opened his eyes and just spit his mouth guard out he's like where the fuck am i don't need this mouth guard any longer the ref was on nine before he even opened his eyes yeah and he was like what's going on now and the rest like oh you're
Starting point is 01:06:59 oh boy yeah that you could feel the the volume in that stadium go loud, but in his head, it all went away. Yeah. He heard nothing. All the sound was gone. That was fucking wild. So he got his revenge on Henry Tillman. For sure. Yeah, that's what it's like without headgear, bitch.
Starting point is 01:07:19 And he, uh, 38-1 for Mike now. So that's, you know a he's doing okay again august 17th 1990 you know just to mix it up wild card as charlie would say on always sunny uh phyllis polliner former aide to robin givens sues mike tyson for sexual assault and harassment so mike's always got to have this sort of thing going on i I don't mean she's saying wild card. I mean, for Mike, you got to throw a sexual harassment suit in there because I'm sure he groped somebody. That's a common thing for him. He gets groping, boy, and it is not good.
Starting point is 01:07:58 So December 8th, 1990 is his next fight. It's in Atlantic City. He fights Alex the Destroyer Stewart. Going to destroy you. He's 26 and 1 coming Stewart. Going to destroy you. He's 26-1 coming in, so looking pretty good. Jimmy, how long do you think the fight will go? The Destroyer? Oh, boy, that's got to be 10 rounds. He is a Destroyer.
Starting point is 01:08:17 Yeah. All right, good. He's expected to be quite the journey today. Let's take a look. Going to get you pay-per-view money. Let's catch up with our fellas here at about 2 minutes and 20 seconds of round one. Let's get into this. Here's Alex Stewart.
Starting point is 01:08:33 He looks very hopeful. Mike misses him with a right, left hook. Oh, God. Oh, boy. That didn't miss at all. It was like a right hand right over the ear, and he just fell like water goes down a piece of glass is how he fell. Oh, he got back up though. Oh, he did. All right. I'm in this. I'm going to win.
Starting point is 01:08:49 Oh, God. Did that one even hit him? The wind knocked him over. He lost his footing. He's back up though. He's like, oh God. He's ducking. Oh my God. Don't get up. That left hook to the side of the head was brutal. He's looking at the shiver as the refs counting. This guy's looking at him of the head was brutal. That was a shiver.
Starting point is 01:09:08 As the ref's counting, this guy's looking at him like he's watching television. It's fucking over. He's looking at him like he's waiting to see what else happens next. He's looking at him like he's waiting to hear the hungry man in the microwave ding. Wow, yeah. What's up? Hot pocket ready? My lean pocket good?
Starting point is 01:09:23 No? Is that a Salisbury I smell i like the barbecue ones all right so and it wasn't even like the hardest shot that he took from tyson either but he was already so wobbled yeah it just it was a shiver his whole body fucking shook then that last shot was just a left hook square to the side of the head and he just scrambled his. And he just scrambled his brain. Yeah, he was like, huh? That's when he was staring at the ref like he was checking out the news. So that's two minutes and 22 seconds of round one. It's a TKO as the ref waves it off as this guy was clearly not going to get up and continue.
Starting point is 01:09:55 This brings Mike to 39-1. So March 18, 1991, about four months later, they're at theage in vegas where he fights a guy with one of the cooler names in boxing history donovan razor ruddick i love that name was rad razor ruddick's a bad fuck razor it's a fucking cool why even use that at all just go razor ruddick razor ruddick is a badass name that's really cool that's where razor ramon i think probably took they said that tito santana came up but he i think it was razor anyway so he came up with the ramon part tito santana they said they did he said he asked him what's a spanish name that an r name and he said ramon and he was like all right good i'm razor ramon scott hall it's either that or rodolfo and that's yeah
Starting point is 01:10:39 syllable razor rodolfo rodolfo it's too much so razor ruddick 25 one and one coming into this fight and uh this fight these are he has two fights with ruddick and they are fucking wars razors he does not back down from shit i'll give razor that and uh this fight goes all the way to the seventh round where finally mike overtakes him And let's take a look right now. Seventh round, huh? Seventh round. This is the fight, I believe, where Ruddick's jaw was broken earlier in the fight. Yeah. So he's fighting this.
Starting point is 01:11:12 Look at that. That's a stiff. Oh, that left. Oh, left. Right. Left. He's staying up. Stop it.
Starting point is 01:11:17 Yeah. The ref called it. He called it before. Ruddick's going, what the fuck? Why are you calling it? Because you were getting shit wall. wall missed off your fucking head yeah like four times mist exploded off of his head that was your head looked like he just blew a dandelion stop that was outmatched fucking insane yeah that was that broke his fucking jaw one somewhere in the fight i believe was the broken
Starting point is 01:11:42 jaw fight it was that first shot it had it had to be he fucking popped him good man right in the jaw i give him he took like four flush he took a full mike tyson combo and didn't go down i mean he was definitely kind of half out on his feet but he stayed up that is wow i mean that's that was an apple safety net that they put on their building so people don't commit suicide that's what the ref was that's a... The ref was an Apple safety net that they put on their building so people don't commit suicide. That's what the ref was right there. That's all he was there. Otherwise, he was going to die.
Starting point is 01:12:09 Yeah, that was... But you got to give the guy credit just for being on his feet. I mean, he got hit like he got hit with a truck four times, and he was like, I'm still here, motherfucker. I mean, I'll die if you hit me again, but I'm standing. There's no shame in that loss for Ruddick. He took him to the seventh round. You took everything you could take. That's what I i mean and mike was he was vicious at this point
Starting point is 01:12:29 that's 40 and one for mike so now he's 40 and one which as we know from boxing records that's pretty goddamn good in the heavyweight division in any other division whatever but this is impeccably impressive for especially for fucking heavyweights back then when there was heavyweights to fight yeah in the 80s when he came up yeah they were dropping bombs here there wasn't just a bunch of eastern european guys fighting this was different nothing against the russians and eastern europeans but let's be honest here i mean you know guys from this era i think would have probably probably beat the shit out of those guys if they had the same training and hgh and everything klitschko can take a fucking punch he can take a punch but who've you ever seen him fight in their prime you know what i mean that's the problem i've
Starting point is 01:13:14 never seen him fight anybody in their prime yeah you know that's that's that and i want to i'm not saying he couldn't beat them i'm just and that's sad because you never know that's like one of those undefeated college football teams where they, well, they didn't play Alabama. It's like, well, they weren't on their schedule. They played everyone they could play and they beat them.
Starting point is 01:13:30 So what do you want from him? You know? Also, Klitschko does have the benefit of that enormous block head that you cannot, you beat it. Go nuts. Throw a hammer at that.
Starting point is 01:13:39 It doesn't break. Plus, I'm not completely convinced that him and his brother don't pull like a killer bees tag team thing where one hides under the ring and the other one pops back up again and finishes the fight like in wrestling back in the day i'm not positive that that could happen it could happen that's all i'm saying so march 28th 1991 mike officially admits paternity to the the first kid in la no not the kid in la the kid who he took the mother to the first kid in L.A.
Starting point is 01:14:05 No, not the kid in L.A. The kid who he took the mother to the Catskills and said he's very happy to be starting a family. He's claiming he's like officially claiming it to the world. He he gave his son. His name is Michael. So it's Mike Mike D'Amato Tyson. So he's named after Cuss as well. So they asked him here.
Starting point is 01:14:29 Oh, this is another. Now he's got another little girl as well. There's an eight-month-old little girl from a woman named Kimberly Scarborough, who's 23, who he is also admitting paternity to. Taylor Swift is soaring high. Her every move captured in the news cycle and devoured by her devoted fans. She's broken billboard records and made Grammys history, not to mention becoming a billionaire in the process. But along the way, Taylor has had to wage war, first by taking on a very powerful, very famous manager, Scooter Braun, and then by going up against the biggest live events company,
Starting point is 01:15:05 Ticketmaster. Hi, I'm David Brown, the host of Wondery Show Business Wars. We go deep into some of the biggest corporate rivalries of all time. And in our latest season, Taylor Swift will shake up not only the music business, but Hollywood and the NFL. Follow Business Wars wherever you get your podcasts. You can listen ad-free on the Amazon Music or Wondery app. So he might have three, but definitely two. Definitely two from what he's acknowledging. They asked him in a deposition, do you acknowledge paternity to the little girl? And he says yes.
Starting point is 01:15:39 And, yeah, they said that they agreed to, Tyson agreed for a settlement to provide for the child. And the lawyer said, quote, about how much it was, quote, quote, my lips are sealed, but everybody's very happy. The child is well provided for. In this regard, Tyson was a gentleman. So he doesn't care about money. Mike, if he can give money to make a problem go away, he'll do it. That's his favorite. Yeah,
Starting point is 01:16:05 because he doesn't, it's a weird thing. And it's with people too. He'll give money to people if it just makes them, will that make them stop or make them happy or make them not, you know, it's a, he just doesn't have a lot of like financial planning.
Starting point is 01:16:20 We'll say he's just gives, he doesn't mind giving money away. And he's very generous to a certain amount of people too i'm from what i hear he's very generous in his with his kids settlement wise and shit and here's a story from a guy named scott ledoux you know scott ledoux is by any chance chris's brother no you've heard the name scott ledoux on the uh wrestle rock rumble as a matter of fact because scott ledoux is in the wrestle rock rumble hilarious he's the mumbling guy you can barely understand that he wants to uh slap the shit out of larry's abisco i believe he says i'm gonna smack the little shit and they beep they have
Starting point is 01:16:57 to beep him out twice he's cursing in it which is weird two lines but he's a heavyweight boxer uh who was a journeyman boxer who became like a bartender in Minneapolis and was a very popular guy because he was a popular boxer. And then he ended up being a referee for AWA for a long time for wrestling. And he had a feud with Larry Zbysko at the time and whatever. Anyway, so he was also in the late 80s, a sparring partner for Mike Tyson, one of his sparring partners. Perhaps that's why he mumbles now, James. No, this was later. He had fought like 50 fights before that and sparred a lot.
Starting point is 01:17:36 That's why he mumbles. Don't worry. This is just helping the mumble. This makes him forget what his grandkids' names are. That's all. Progressing it. Makes him forget what his grandkids' names are, that's all. Progressing it.
Starting point is 01:17:53 So apparently, Ledoux was having a lot of financial problems, and he had only worked one round with Mike Tyson before he had to leave, and he had a bunch of financial problems. But Mike paid him for an entire training session worth of work because he felt bad for him that he had financial problems, and he's an old-time boxer. So he felt bad for him, paid him a lot of money. So that's what I mean. He'll'll pay people that he'll pay people. It's almost like that. If that he, he feels like maybe that'll make my guilt feel different or I'll feel better if I give people money or they'll feel better and then they'll like me or I don't know what it is, but it's something.
Starting point is 01:18:19 There's a lot of mental that goes into that. I'm sure. Yeah. And I'm sure that all of those are right. And more. They ever seen that broke documentary on 30 for 30? Remember when Vinny Testaverde, or not Vinny Testaverde, Bernie Kosar. I'm sorry, Vinny Testaverde replaced him.
Starting point is 01:18:34 They look the same. And it's a similar type of Miami. They're both Miami, too, University of Miami. So Bernie Kosar talks about how his dad just took everything from him. He took his money. He said his dad took his whole signing bonus and paid off his house and his car and all that kind of shit. And he was like, he said he didn't care. His dad just wanted money from him.
Starting point is 01:18:54 He said, just take it. Just take it. His wife got divorced. He said, I don't care what you take. Just take it. Because he said he just felt bad about himself. And he thought, well, maybe if I give them the money, then they'll just like me and they me and then love me and then it'll stop and i can people everybody will be happy if i just give them all the money and i don't care feeling man i've tried my best to all right we'll move on no
Starting point is 01:19:13 yes i understand we yeah absolutely so his next fight is june 28th 1991 it's a rematch against razor erotic which is i remember being jacked for this fight razor agree to that again okay i know that hurt the first time yeah so this fight i didn't see it live because it was a pay-per-view fight but it was when my mother first moved to arizona and i was a kid and i was just got i was there for like two days and i remember the highlights on the news for this because i had you know come to see her and it went all 12 rounds razor hung in there for 12 and a unanimous decision for mike though so uh but razor razor's a tough motherfucker i could take a punch man he really he's got a chin on him impressive it is so
Starting point is 01:19:57 uh mike is now 41 and one so let's just say grace to grace again. This is grace again. He's going to get three graces in this in this whole series. Fucking guy's a roller coaster. He really is a roller coaster of emotions and everything else. So that's grace, because right after that, things get not so graceful for him. July 20th, 1991. the world just explodes with this uh because we said anything mike does is in every newspaper and everything like that if he says
Starting point is 01:20:34 vancouver's clean they quote him well this time he does something that even if he wasn't as famous as he is he'd have been in the newspaper for it. He is accused of rape. This isn't grabbing an ass. This isn't open handed slap. This isn't this is actual rape. This is an accusation. It's obviously a very big deal here. He is accused by a contestant in the Miss Black America contest, which he seems to go to every year uh because
Starting point is 01:21:06 we'll talk about that later on that the uh he's got he's he was there the year before and some other woman accused him of of something so i think it's a vending machine he thinks it's like a it's a selection like a jukebox like i'll take b1 and then he just like i'll go up there and i don't know what the fuck he's thinking yeah i think he looks at it like let's go see the new talent coming out you know what i'm saying because all these girls are like 18 too right they're 18 they're 19 so he's looking i mean he's only like fucking 25 don't get me wrong but still he's looking at him's like let's see the new ones this year it's a the new models or something it's like a car show for him
Starting point is 01:21:43 he just picks one out and drives it off the lot. If a beauty pageant wasn't creepy enough, this should be reason enough to stop him forever. Yeah. He was raped because a man sat in the audience
Starting point is 01:21:53 and took his pick. It's, it's, this reminds me of, I heard back in the day when they introduced, what's that early 60s really hot ass Jaguar
Starting point is 01:22:02 that they redesigned and came out with? JX, is? JX? Whatever it was. It was really cool looking. It's the one they talked about on Mad Men that they were trying to figure out something for. Well, when it came out at the car show, at this car show, Frank Sinatra was there. He was hired to be the spokesman for the car show or whatever.
Starting point is 01:22:20 He said, I want the first one of those that comes off the fucking lot. It's mine. Whatever. That's what I always feel like Tyson is with these. He goes to these things like picking out a Jaguar almost. And not even saying like girls shouldn't be paraded or celebrate the beauty. Parade if you want to, but keep Mike Tyson away from them. Men should obviously not sit and try to just pick their favorite and then go force them.
Starting point is 01:22:43 Obviously, that's not right. But let's not. Let's also not just fucking dangle pieces of meat in front of a tiger cage. It's fucking crazy. So this young lady, Desiree Washington, is a contestant. And apparently she went to his downtown hotel room at around 2 a.m. She says she presumed it was a platonic thing like they were hanging out. They hadn't been like making out or whatever she said before that.
Starting point is 01:23:10 So she wasn't it wasn't like, hey, let's go back to my room and fuck because we can't do it here. She said it was she thought it was like a platonic thing. A friend of hers is quoted as saying, quote, she tried to fight off the attack, but it was no use no um so she is saying that he you know we'll talk about the details of it later but he basically pinned her down and physically raped her and god you know yeah this this wasn't like uh you know this wasn't like uh halfway through it not that that makes it better but i'm just saying this wasn't
Starting point is 01:23:42 this was a fucking halfway through consensual sex and then she was like please stop and he's like yeah she wasn't even voluntarily naked you know what i'm saying so none of this was really voluntary mike denies it okay he denies it he denies that he's ever been aggressive toward women which is a silly thing to say because you know not true. Yeah. He's been accused and sued for sexual harassment by fucking everybody so far, including Rosie Jones, who I believe was the winner of the last year's contest, who claimed in a lawsuit that Tyson fondled her buttocks. So this is the last year's winner of this pageant here. Mike says this is the last year's winner of this pageant here. Mike says this is ridiculous. And I have to give it in their own words for this because it's one of the most ridiculous fucking things I've ever seen a human man say. Let's get into it.
Starting point is 01:24:37 Mike Tyson, in their own words, quote, I love woman. I love women. My mother's a woman. quote, I love women. I love women. My mother's a woman. Unfortunately, every time I get involved with one in a certain way like this, something happens.
Starting point is 01:24:52 Oh, my God, Mike. That's what he said. I couldn't have raped her. I love women. My mother's a woman. My mother's a woman. The worst thing you can say. Possibly the dumbest thing in the history of rape accusations here. Don King maintains that Tyson is keeping his composure well for all of this.
Starting point is 01:25:10 He said despite everything, he says that Mike is handling his situation much better than other celebrities, and he thinks he's innocent. of forcing Desiree Washington, who's 18 years old, 18, in the Miss Black America pageant to have sex with him in his Indianapolis hotel room. Jesus, Mike Tyson says that she, quote, knows what happened in that room. I know what happened, and I know I'm innocent. That's what he says. And he called her by her name in a news conference, which at the time wasn't as whatever, but it still wasn't cool. Now that's like illegal. But now then it wasn't cool.
Starting point is 01:25:53 You know, it was still like you're calling out people's names. Damn. So he called the charges totally ridiculous. Mike said they he could be found guilty of everything and given all maximum penalties he could get up to 63 years for this oh my so yeah um he says quote i didn't hurt no one i'm extremely worried about the situation but i know i'm innocent and an attorney for desiree washington said quote if tyson said that he and the victim both were in that room and both knew that he's totally innocent,
Starting point is 01:26:28 then my response would be that, you know, he's lying. So there's that. Now, like everything, there's possible scenarios here. Okay? Possible scenarios. Let's go over them, all right? Because there's no other way to do this because this is a 100% he said, she said situation.
Starting point is 01:26:48 You know what I mean? Possible scenarios. She went to his room thinking it was platonic. They were watching Andy Griffith reruns on TBS in the middle of the night. And then out of nowhere, he jumped on her and overpowered her and raped her. Okay? Number two, possibility. and then out of nowhere he jumped on her and overpowered her and raped her that's okay um number two possibility like i said these are possibilities yeah number two she went to the room they had consensual sex and then she lied about it that's a possibility obviously um number
Starting point is 01:27:19 three she went to the room maybe they made out a bit. He was rough or weird or just not what she had in mind or she didn't feel good or she didn't like it or he was a bad kisser or she felt like getting home to watch SportsCenter. Whatever the fuck it was, she might not have wanted to continue. And Mike wasn't taking that shit. That's that's the most likely scenario to me, probably. But that is the same thing as a it's the same thing as one still right there's no is no right that's 60 66 bad chances that's what i mean it's it's bad it's just fucking bad there's no um three and one and three have the same level of shittiness to them people like to think that they don't but
Starting point is 01:28:05 they do and it's that's what it is so either way that's how it is and it's a well i mean no one was in that room we'll never know what exactly happened but i you know three sounds like probably the likeliest scenario right you know what i mean he's an over-aggressive guy she didn't probably know he was going to be that aggressive he talks soft smoke and he this and that you know who the fuck guessing from what i do know about mike tyson he's fucking weird and he's a weird what's what i mean there's so much in his life that's weird he takes a girl that he that he impregnated to the cat skills to be with a woman he he just lives there it's not even his house it's just he's just that's weird to be with an old lady what does he looks at her like his mom
Starting point is 01:28:42 like i'm taking you to my mom's house but still outside looking in but that's still weird yeah he does a lot of weird things but also he she's 18 years old and if he's trying to do weird sexual shit maybe she's not into it yeah you know she's 18 like maybe she doesn't want whatever it is it doesn't matter what the reason is if she didn't want to fuck him and he insisted that's a fucking crime. So, yeah. And everybody's coming out. People are coming out for and against him. Editorials everywhere of what was this lady doing in his fucking, what was she doing up in his room at two in the morning? And then the opposite of that of, well, he's obviously, you know, he's been a monster for years.
Starting point is 01:29:21 And, you know, this is the celebrity culture and silver-haired middle-aged white men and, you know,'s been a monster for years and you know this is the celebrity culture and silver haired middle-aged white men and you know all that shit who don king is the most silver of all the silver haired middle-aged white men out literally got a silver stripe yeah it's dana white vince mcmahon don king those are the fucking those are the three biggest silver haired middle-aged white men that exist so this is uh who is this here? This is. Oh, is this Rooney? I think. Oh, no. This is Tyson's former assistant manager, Steve Lott. He says, quote, I can't believe that Mike that the Mike Tyson I know, the Mike Tyson who lived in my apartment for three years would ever do what he's accused of.
Starting point is 01:29:58 Sure, he was a bad kid when he was growing up in Brooklyn. But when he got around Custom Auto and Jimmy Jacobs, he began to change for the better. Unfortunately, the people around him now are the netherworld types who may have influenced this lifestyle. Okay, now, Don King's a huge scumbag. I've given you that. It's as big a scum as it goes. I don't think he was like, Mike, you need to take that pussy when they say no.
Starting point is 01:30:21 Like, that probably never came up, let's just say. I wouldn't blame this on mike's an adult i don't know that i'd put it past don but i don't think that that happened he might do it but he's not going to tell other people to do it you know especially that's going to cost him money and he knows it right so it ain't gonna happen so you know uh august of 1991 he is sued officially by rosie jones miss black america 1990 the contestant earlier uh she sues mike this is for a butt fondling and uh don't touch people's butt keep your hands to yourself yeah but a hundred million dollars she's suing for which is expensive i'm sorry that's give me a fucking break you're not getting a hundred million dollars because somebody grabbed your ass
Starting point is 01:31:03 that's how did how did this damages cost cost you $100 million that he needs to repay? Unless Mike Tyson fucking ripped your baby from your arms and vivisected it in front of your eyes. I can't imagine any situation that would warrant $100 million. And I'm 100% on this woman's side, mind you. But that's that's and i'm 100 on this woman's side mind you but that's a hundred million the only thing that she's in the wrong for is uh the value of an ass that's yeah i mean i'm sure her ass is wonderful but yeah no there's no ass worth a hundred million dollars on the face of the earth and that's not you weren't gonna make a hundred million dollars anywhere that this no one is who's making a hundred right this didn't cause you ptsd that you can't make whatever
Starting point is 01:31:50 lemon product you were about to make and that's the ridiculous part is that's such a ridiculous ask that it makes us make fun of a woman who is which is sucks because we don't want to do that but a hundred million dollars you're just that's but $100 million. That's so much money. That's just as crazy as grabbing somebody's ass when you're not allowed to. That's just as nuts to me. A drunk driver didn't hit you, causing you to not be able to use your legs. Even that, $100 million? No.
Starting point is 01:32:20 Calm the fuck down. Here's 10. Relax. You don't need to work for the rest of your life, but $100 million is a lot of money and also mike stop grabbing asses stop stop it's that's the whole point here stop grabbing asses so what they're showing too is he has a history of going to this place and using it as a buffet so he was there the year before fondling the winner and then this year he's fondling this one. So, yeah. Oh, I'm sorry. They didn't even say that he fondled her in 1990.
Starting point is 01:32:49 They're saying she was there this year because she was the previous year's winner. And he fondled her at the 91 pageant where he then went home and allegedly raped Desiree Washington. So he was just one. He was mad horny that night. Something was, Jesus Christ, Mike, you you fucking why are you doing this the pageant's owner as well files a 21 million dollar lawsuit against tyson claiming that tyson is a quote this is in court documents now so a cereal buttocks fondler he likes a booty siri i have to write that down because that's the name of this episode cereal buttocks fondler there we go okay have to do that who molested 10 of 23 contestants at the
Starting point is 01:33:35 91 pageant 10 of 23 jimmy that's almost 50 of the beauty contestant pageant people were fucking groped by him. That's crazy. Ten? That's a lot. That's a lot, man. One's too many, but ten? Holy shit. That's showing you think you're above the law at that point. And everything.
Starting point is 01:33:55 They invited me here to fucking tap the melons and see if they're ripe. This is fucking ridiculous. He was squeezing avocados. That's what he was doing. That's what he's doing. It's fucking gross. they're ripe this is fucking ridiculous he was squeezing avocados that's what he's doing it's fucking gross um he said that he also made lewd perverted uh remarks to two others so i can see he was out of control that night it sounds like um uh i don't know why the organizer should get
Starting point is 01:34:18 21 million dollars for that how about the women the women want to split 21 million dollars that's fine but i don't think the guy, I had to watch him do it. I heard what he said. God, I need $21 million. I booked a civic center here. I wasn't even there, but I booked the place and I deserved money for this. I did sell t-shirts.
Starting point is 01:34:36 I did. I got the concessions in here and I figured out parking attendance, so I get $21 million. September 9th, 1991, he is officially indicted on rape charges yeah uh he's indicted on on rape and several other things as we'll talk about here um they say that she the prosecution says that he she accompanied him voluntarily to the room but when she refused
Starting point is 01:35:03 his advances he used or threatened force to coerce her into having intercourse and performing other sex acts. So he testified before the grand jury. Mike does. And he says that he knows what happened and she knows what happened. And I know I'm innocent. That was the line where that's where that came from. He is charged also with two counts of criminal deviant conduct and one count of confinement he uh they said the deviant conduct counts stem from alleged oral sex without consent and digital penetration oh he went down on her good lord mike
Starting point is 01:35:38 why would you want to go i don't understand going down on an involuntary why i don't i don't understand i don't understand rape. I don't get it. I don't get what's in a guy's head when he's doing it. I suppose it's him saying come on baby, watch. Shit like that. I'll get you going. What are you fucking kidding me? That's what I mean.
Starting point is 01:35:58 You're doing something terrible. How do you not feel this is terrible? I don't know, man. I can't. I've always erred on the side of less aggression sexually How do you not feel this is terrible? What am I? I don't know, man. I don't I can't. I've I've always erred on the side of less aggression sexually when it came to that. I don't know if that's because I'm like a big person and you're told from a young age, not the whatever. So I've always been very five hands off like that.
Starting point is 01:36:19 And I allow the initiation. I never I will never initiate. I'm not an initiate. That's what I mean. You're going to you're going to you're going to push my hand somewhere before I put it there. You that. I'm not an initiate. That's what I mean. I'm a stranger. You're going to push my hand somewhere before I put it there. You know what I'm saying? I'm just not like that because I don't want to be. I'm Zipper. Zipper.
Starting point is 01:36:30 Fuck pushing my hand. I'm not touching shit. Yeah, that's what I'm saying. I think I've... Yeah, I don't know what that is. I don't know. I guess it's just not being a scumbag. I don't know. Maybe we're just not terrible people.
Starting point is 01:36:40 We're assholes, but we're not scumbags. You're not a rapist. That's all. I think that's what it is. It holds no gratification for me no it really i couldn't imagine why that how that could be gratifying i wouldn't well like and listen there are women that enjoy like uh being dominated but on on on on date one no no no no no you just this is the first time you're making out like are you kidding me yeah i'm not You just this is the first time you're making out. Like, are you kidding me? Yeah. No, I'm not going to fulfill some domination fantasy. No.
Starting point is 01:37:07 Once you're in relationships with women, there's women will ask for crazy shit. They'll ask for domination. They'll ask for weird rape fantasy shit that they like. Women do that shit all the time. That doesn't mean, though, they want actual people to rape them. That's the difference. It's just that's a fucking it's a different thing. Rape like that is is exciting
Starting point is 01:37:25 to them in in a safe environment it's not to them let's not say to let's say to certain women because people be like no everyone we know that that's not a thing certain women like that we know this because we're guys and people ask for weird shit so yeah it's been, you know, but yeah, the domination part is like I there's no sense of of I don't know, aggravation. What is the word? I don't know. Aggression. I'm not doing some sort of aggressive sex. Well, no, if someone says, will you do this, then you can do it. But if so, right. You better fucking back. If you're forcing someone to try, that's not OK, man. It's just not none of it's okay you know don't
Starting point is 01:38:06 fucking do anything to people that they don't want you to do for christ's sake they don't specifically want you to do so um the attorney said that the they feel like the indictment has vindicated the client uh they said quote now that the grand jury has spoken perhaps there will be some public support for her uh you had a courageous young girl who went up against a multi-millionaire cottage industry a multi-million dollar cottage industry she has stood virtually alone in her quest there has been no public outcry that's a fact man everybody was like i mean women other than like now women were the National Organization of Women. Other than those groups, women were just like, well, why did she go up there at 2 in the morning?
Starting point is 01:38:51 What do you expect? The man on the street throwing the mic in front of somebody walking down a New York street. What do you think of the Mike Tyson allegations? Well, why was she up there? Yeah, obviously. What did she expect was going to happen? So a gag order is issued in the case at this point as well. So nothing is going to get out.
Starting point is 01:39:09 Tyson says he, this is all fine and dandy and all, but he's way more worried about the upcoming Evander Holyfield fight than he is about any rape trial. Much bigger fight. Yeah, in November of 1991, he is supposed to fight evander holyfield for the biggest fight ever and it's a giant payday and everyone i mean this is waiting years for this everybody so he said when asked about what's gonna you know how do you feel about this you know indicted for rape he says quote i can't focus my attention on that it's bad enough to have that hanging over me he He said, quote, the fight comes first. After the fight, then we can take care of the trial and I'll be proven innocent.
Starting point is 01:39:51 Okay, Mike. He says, Don King says it's Tyson's celebrity status that has made him a target for sensational allegations. He said, yeah, the only thing that Tyson does wrong is he creates problems by mingling with the people so often. He's a man of the people, and he just loves people. So that's his problem. He goes out in public and mingles, and then, of course, people are going to get crazy ideas. They've seen him on TV. Next thing you know, rape scenarios.
Starting point is 01:40:18 So he denied he's aggressive toward women at all. I love women. My mother's a woman that whole thing people everybody was weighing in on should the fight be canceled the same people it seems like that are like well why was she up in the room at two in the morning i bet he's innocent there wasn't rape all that these are the same people saying how could you possibly you're gonna have a fight with a guy accused of rape it's just it's the world is crazy at this moment in time. So there shouldn't they should cancel the fight.
Starting point is 01:40:48 He's got a rape trial going on and they should worry about that. So that's bad. Yeah. Bob Arum, who is another very, very high on the list of all time silver haired middle aged white men, allegedly a horrible piece of shit. I mean, he sues the fuck out of everybody. Right. He is allegedly
Starting point is 01:41:05 in my opinion a steaming pile of donkey shit so yeah but that's only my opinion and i'm not saying it's true you're allowed to think that i can think anything i want you don't know what my eyes see so the he urged nevada boxing officials to quote do the right thing and strip tyson of his boxing license pending a resolution of the charges against him he said if this fight goes ahead Nevada boxing officials to quote do the right thing and strip Tyson of his boxing license pending a resolution of the charges against him. He said if this fight goes ahead in the face of Tyson's indictment boxing will be banned in many states and it will be the end of the sport as we know it which is probably a little overdramatic but it is hyperbole.
Starting point is 01:41:39 Go on. Yeah. And then Luther Mack who's vice chairman of the Nevada State Athletic Commission. He says that quote it's, it's an indictment. An indictment doesn't prove he actually committed the crime. We're inquiring into the allegations and the Nevada attorney general's office is representing the commission on this matter. For now, though, our position is that Tyson is innocent until proven guilty. That is the American way.
Starting point is 01:42:12 Do you have any idea how much money this fight is bringing in wow that is a really wild thing to say when it comes to rape man yeah come on it's wow it's a different time it's a different time so october 1991 nowadays you'd be no there would be if you're indicted for rape you're not fighting like that's it uh unless it's ufc and then i'm sure dana white wouldn't care we'll figure that out after he'd be like oh good this will make him more popular with my crowd i'll get some eyes and attention on this fight now we'll sell some t-shirts so fucking guy moves no merch now he's gonna move the merch october 91 uh natalie fears remember the uh mom yeah michael domato uh uh tyson yeah baby files a suit against him for like to get like officially i guess he's sending her money here and there or whatever but she wants like an official payment plan so uh she seeks a file suit in los angeles superior court seeking 11 million dollars from mike tyson and one million dollars from promoter don king as well okay well the site
Starting point is 01:43:16 the suit claims tyson reneged on an agreement to support her hasn't been sending her money like he's supposed to also charges that king interfered with the relationship between the two of them. And that's worth a million dollars. So, um, yeah, happening altogether, $12 million in paternity and palimony suits.
Starting point is 01:43:34 Here's what this is. So, uh, they said that he promised to establish a $5 million trust for their son, D'Amato Tyson and didn't. And all of this shit. She's a real estate agent, by the way, Natalie Fears in Los Angeles and claiming she didn't do all this.
Starting point is 01:43:51 She claimed that Tyson promised five million dollars for fears for support, twenty thousand dollars monthly support for the child, a luxury car and a house in Ohio where Tyson maintains a home for her and the kid so all of that and a five million dollar trust for the kid so when you're rich it's expensive to knock people up so that's that's what that is value a valuable child ever it's and representing her is marvin mitchelson who is very famously very famous lawyer for doing palimony suits against athletes and shit so now they're this he you know he said it's my kid here here's the money, whatever, and then he apparently reneged on that. But because she files this suit, to get everything in order, there has to be, now it's all going to be on the books, there needs to be absolute paternity established of having blood tests and shit, even though they say, he admits it's his kid. So January 12th, 1992, blood test show mike tyson is not the father
Starting point is 01:45:07 of michael domato tyson he's not even got that one right it's not even his kid not his kid blood test shows not his kid so um yeah this is like it's worth 30 grand yeah and he was happy to pay whatever he said he was happy to pay whatever but the only reason they ever did a blood test was because this suit was filed right so on her own toes yeah this is not great that would have been the best maury episode ever that would have been wild mike tith yes yes I told you Morrie Morrie I told you I don't know poor kid's gonna go through his life like that with that name and he ain't even nothing he's not it's it's but then later on right no then later on Michael say it's
Starting point is 01:46:02 my son even though it's the blood tests have shown it's not his son. So I don't know what the fuck is going on with Mike there. They do. Blood tests do reiterate, though, that he is definitely the father of Kimberly Scarborough's baby, the little girl. Definitely his. And from what I understand, he she is identical to him as a child. It's like a little mini Mike Dyson.
Starting point is 01:46:24 So, yeah, he received the test results from a laboratory in long beach uh now tyson's pissed because he says he's given natalie fears close to 1.5 million dollars yeah in cash cars and jewelry including a hundred thousand dollar check five weeks before the lawsuit was filed and it isn't his fucking kid wow um he never challenged the contention in the law because he said he was he was sleeping with her so he said yeah it's probably my kid but uh yeah he was pretty fucking shocked at this whole thing as you might imagine he doesn't know what to do with himself you know what i mean he's he's got to be confused think about it he's like's like fucking I. Wow. What's going on? I thought it was my kid. Now it's not my kid. I'm paying money. I'm not paying money. But this one is my kid. And this one he's very confused. And most of all, though, because he is in between fights, he's very, very hungry, just starving. As we know, we can really put it away.
Starting point is 01:47:25 hungry, just starving. As we know, he can really put it away. And he smells something delicious on the street after he gets out of court, finding out it's not his baby. And he says, I got to go in here. And he goes in there and it's the shawarma man. And he says, how is it you've come to arrive here? Why? Why you come? Why you here? You have 100 million. Why I go home? You never see Swarmer Man again. I go to beach and sit. You can buy woman with that money.
Starting point is 01:47:57 Why you want to grope and grab? You say, I give you 40 million. You come forever. She say, okay. And you take. Why you do? What's wrong with you? Mike. Why? Why, Mike? Why you do? What's wrong with you, Mike Tyson?
Starting point is 01:48:06 Why? Why, Mike? Why you do? I know make food for you. I know how much you eat. I know make. Sign say close. No, you go.
Starting point is 01:48:15 Okay, fine. I make for you. What do you want? Lamb? You want lamb? A little beef chicken. It's okay. I need to recoup some of the money the shwarmer man lost on that Buster Douglas fight. I lost so much money, Mike Tyson, on Buster Douglas.
Starting point is 01:48:26 I say, try, you son of a bitch, try. And you lay there like dog shot in the street. I said, fine. Now I make some back for you. You maybe make, thank you. You go. No, you go. That's it. Signs say
Starting point is 01:48:41 closed. You go now. And poof. And in a poof of shawarma and tzatziki sauce, Mike Tyson is very confused and punching at the air, not sure who to hit. Claim checks on Buster Douglas fights. What's happening? Oh, shit. I got to die. Oh, man. Doesn't know who to hit. He's a mess. Now, he said they're going to trial with the rape. There's no deal or anything like that. He's saying he's innocent. In addition to that, let's go over, because it's confusing. We've gone over a lot. Let's go over the lawsuits that are current with Mike at this moment while he's going into his rape trial. Well, he's got Kevin Rooney, his ex-trainer.
Starting point is 01:49:18 Rooney v. Tyson, filed in Albany Federal Court, alleges that Tyson reneged on a verbal agreement that Rooney would remain his trainer and receive 10% of his net boxing earnings for as long as Tyson fought. Tyson fired Rooney in 88, and he seeks $10 million in damages. Phyllis Polliner, who is the assistant to Robin Givens back in the day there, Polliner versus Tyson, filed in New Jersey,
Starting point is 01:49:42 former publicist for Tyson's ex-wife, alleges that Tyson beat, sexually sexually assaulted and threatened to kill her. The suit contends that Polliner suffered severe, temporary and permanent personal and emotional injuries as a result of Tyson's alleged behavior. Unspecified damages sought. Rosie Jones, Miss Black America, 1990. Jones versus Tyson filed in New York. Jones alleged that Tyson humiliated and caused her mental distress by fondling and uttering sexually perverted, demeaning, and insulting words and phrases at the 1991 Indiana Black Expo, a celebration of black history and culture. Damages sought, $100 million.
Starting point is 01:50:26 For the avocado groping. that was oof uh r r and m enterprises inc v tyson uh 1991 las vegas federal court this las vegas jewelry shop owner alleges that tyson owes 125 000 for a jeweled panther bracelet he purchased last spring. Tyson attempted to return the $150,000 bracelet two months after he bought it, but the shop refused to take it back, and they're just looking for their $125,000 that he still owes. We don't want the Panther. We want the money. We want the money. Robin Young v. Tyson, 1991 New York Federal Court. Young alleges that Tyson forcefully grabbed her in a sexually suggestive and embarrassing fashion, causing her great humiliation during a 1990 photo session at a Manhattan nightclub.
Starting point is 01:51:12 Damages sought $2 million. Natalie fears versus Tyson. This is the paternity one. Blood tests found out he's not the father. And so there's that kind of of ruins your whole it was a little little bad there now march 1992 is the trial now if you weren't alive or around back then if you're younger or you know whatever uh if you were in prison or on another planet i don't know some other on an island somewhere this was oj before oj right this was oj this was huge the only reason
Starting point is 01:51:49 why this trial isn't so famous anymore is because oj happened that's the only reason why and completely overshadowed it because you know fuck oj's oj and he nicole's head was cut off it's a different thing right and this was a circus as well. This was a circus. This was the biggest sports media circus, you know, criminal thing of all time, probably since Muhammad Ali. And I don't even that's not really criminal. That was political and everything else. So March 1992, the the reason why this also doesn't get remembered quite as much is because
Starting point is 01:52:23 the judge in the beginning made a very different ruling than Lance Edo did in the OJ case. This judge decided no cameras in the courtroom cameras, no cameras. Even they said a you know, they were going to do a closed circuit thing for overflow press or whatever. And they said, no, not no fucking cameras in the courtroom for this case. So that kept it from being a complete zoo and a circus so uh people on tyson's side are calling washington a victimizer they're saying she's not the victim she's the victimizer one quote from his camp said that she's a quote gold digging viper who knew what the champ wanted and freely gave it. Then after the fact, screamed rape.
Starting point is 01:53:06 Jesus Christ. That sounds fucking terrible. I can't say that. I guess my God, uh, Tyson denies it saying, quote, nobody had a black eye or broken ribs.
Starting point is 01:53:17 When I'm in the ring, I break their ribs. I break their jaws. To me, that's hurting someone. Are you Mike? Whoa, that is God awful. Jesus Christ. is that how you fuck too mike oh my god um jesus uh yeah the judge said i feel people once they know the
Starting point is 01:53:36 cameras are on them respond a great deal differently i think perhaps that lawyers have a tendency to ham things up anyway and you give them a greater chance to do that with cameras. Yeah, it's a smart thing. Now, Desiree Washington's testimony here is that he coaxed her up to the hotel room on an innocent pretext. Hey, come up and hang out, or I want to show you something. Whatever it was. Yeah, a friendly thing, basically.
Starting point is 01:54:01 She didn't expect that this was a sexual thing. He said, though, she she said i'm sorry that he got on top of her pinned her down stripped her clothes off and you know raped her and orally and all that sort of thing as we described then she also said that he uh laughed as she cried and begged him to stop oh my god which is making it even more horrific obviously sadistic and there's a famous quote from him where he says i like to hurt women i like to feel him scream and i like to hear him scream when we're having sex and all that shit it turns me on which is yeah yeah he made like a weird this is the 80s he said that i'll fuck you till you love me uh yeah and it was to like a cameraman yeah telling a cameraman i'll i'll make you love me
Starting point is 01:54:53 ho that that's a different thing than i want to rape people though that's if someone else is into that then everybody's happy and nobody it's all fine you know what i'm saying but if the other person is the other person is crying it's a little less let's not laugh at that no it's not sexy at all so witnesses are not allowed to mike wants to call some witnesses that are not allowed to testify uh these are i guess three witnesses that they say could reasonably infer that the complaining witness has not basically they said the defense said that they say could reasonably infer that the complaining witness has not. Basically, they said the defense said that these witnesses will show she's lying. And the witnesses are three women who we don't have any proof that they were around that night.
Starting point is 01:55:34 They just say they were. Three women said that they, quote, saw two people in the backseat of a limousine who were all over one another outside of the Canterbury Hotel where this happened. So she's saying, I saw them in the limo and they were all over one another outside of the canterbury hotel where uh this happened so she's saying i saw them in the limo and they were all over each other so this woman can't say that she thought it was platonic right but we also don't have any proof that the people that they saw were mike and her could have been don't know that some eastern european guy yeah it is indianapolis so it's probably mike and her the guy at the the limo company woke up when they called him. He's like, oh, shit, someone really in Indianapolis?
Starting point is 01:56:08 Wow, okay, fuck. Someone came here? Amazing. Right. Fuck that place. So anyway, yeah, that's what ends up happening. So we don't know any of that. And even if they were making out in the car, that could be 100% true.
Starting point is 01:56:29 That does not mean that once they got up to the room, she at no point didn't say no. You know what I mean? So that's irrelevant anyway, honestly, to me. It doesn't matter. If I can't find out what's up in the room, I'm just going to have the jury decide which one of these people I believe more. Because that's all you can do. So there's nothing else you can do legally. So that's all it is. He says I didn't do it.
Starting point is 01:56:47 My mother's a woman. She says, you know, this is what happened. They bring up his past. His past indiscretions are led into court. All of his ass grabbing and lawsuits and all that are led into court as well. This is also that night he's grabbing ass. You know what I mean? That's what I mean.
Starting point is 01:57:04 All that's brought in right then it's not good and the verdict comes in and uh he is found guilty as fuck as fuck of rape and all sorts of shit here so uh yeah mike is mike's in some deep uh some deep goddamn trouble we'll put it that way he's uh he's got some trouble going on. Sentencing comes around here. And, man, there is different sentences that I've read for this, by the way, which is a weird fucking thing. Yeah, I've read. I've read several because the way it's so strange because the way they do it with other charges and shit you know what i'm
Starting point is 01:57:46 saying like they have here look i'll check this out for you and i'll read you several different one um let's see here seven different sites show that he was sentenced to different things well because it's different for the different things see they give him 10 years in jail but then suspended though as you sir may fuck off 10 years in jail, but then suspended. You, sir, may fuck off 10 years in prison, but four years suspended. But then there was another conditional thing for this and that. So there's a lot of, let's just say it's 10 years with four suspended. So let's just say it's six years. To make it easy, we'll say it's six years.
Starting point is 01:58:17 But it was more complicated when it actually came out. People were like, so how long is he actually going to prison for? That was a big deal. So his ex-business manager, remember Bill Cat caton he says that tyson's going to be broke soon okay which makes sense yeah he says that he may be stripped clean once he comes out of jail he says quote i think mike went through about 35 to 40 million net in the last five or six years the reason i think he has nothing left is that he cashed into insurance policies that would have provided him with 250 000 a year for the rest of his life
Starting point is 01:58:51 tax-free starting at age 28 remember those remember those trusts they set up for him that's what they fought 250 a year for the rest of his fucking life tax-free you could live off that very very happily and easily and comfortably so i I don't know if Mike Tyson can, but I certainly could. So very well. So he says, Caden says, quote, he cashed them in because he needed the money to pay his lawyers and Don King. I think he was convinced that he had no other sources of income, that he had no other sources of income. And while Mike may be weak in math, he understood what those two policies meant. I don't think he'd have given them up
Starting point is 01:59:29 unless he absolutely felt he had no choice. So yeah, the first one was worth $125,000 a year for the rest of his life. He cashed that in about a year and a half before the rape trial. I'm sorry, a year and a half just just after the rape trial i messed up there and uh yes they're talking about all the money going to the lawyers and all this sort of shit um he's taken into prison and uh he wanted to be he tried to get like bail and be out and just do whatever
Starting point is 02:00:01 in between the guilty and the sentencing yeah but he was he was mad they made him surrender his passport so that's ridiculous okay and um yeah the the attorney general deputy attorney general for indiana said if a person with 10 million dollars in assets wants to live in another country fight another country i don't know any reason why he couldn't get on a private plane fly there and live out the rest of his life. Great point. We've got to hang on to him here. So now he becomes inmate number, and every article will have the inmate number in there as always, 922-335. At least it's easy to remember.
Starting point is 02:00:40 He was brought into the diagnostic center to figure out where they're sending him. He is locked up alone originally because they say that he has a propensity for temper outbursts and mood swings. You want to be Mike Tyson's fucking cellmate? No, thank you. No, thank you. May 6, 1992, he's in prison and he is put in solitary confinement for making a threat to a guard. Yeah. He, I guess that's taken seriously there. He's threatening a staff member at the Indiana Youth Center where he's serving his sentence.
Starting point is 02:01:07 His attorney said that Tyson feared being set up for such a confrontation. This is what he thought was going to happen. He said that, yeah, Tyson threatened a guard with bodily harm. And after receiving an unidentified visitor, Tyson was taken to the office of a guard supervisor and then made more threats to that guy. So they put him in solitary. So what's Mike doing in prison? We got to talk about this because this is wow. Yeah, he's he's he's living in an 80-square-foot room at this moment, which is smaller than his usual mansions.
Starting point is 02:01:50 Yeah, sprawling usually. Got the usual bunk bed, sink, toilet, dresser table, small window. Movements are restricted to gym, chapel, commissary, dining hall, visitor's room, prisoner yard, law library, day room. All your usual prison places here he's got the akut come on yeah he's got to be in his room at 11 30 and he's awakened by guards at five five o'clock in the morning oh he um yeah he's in a there's 14 other 1400 other offenders here they've been convicted of let's find the percentage, 28% of armed robbery, 22% of theft, 17% of child molestation. What the fuck, Indiana?
Starting point is 02:02:31 What is wrong with you? Why are you, what is happening? Are they importing them, like using them from other places? I don't know. Is that where they go? There's almost 20, that's almost one in five are child molesters. I've never heard of that in a prison. That's a shitload.
Starting point is 02:02:44 20 it's almost one in five are child molesters i've never heard of that in a prison that's a shitload and 12 uh 12 for drug dealing and uh yeah 12 or 17 yeah yeah that's what it is and then there's rape and murder in there too so um it's a bad fucking place this place sucks yeah this is a violent offenders camp they they list the commissary items and what they cost in this prison which i find interesting as shit we have to talk about the sales jimmy not as much as the sales yeah go on we have the iowa the indiana state youth commission whatever the fuck it is, at the commissary. Deodorant stick, only $1.30. Not bad. Toenail clippers, $0.65. English leather cologne, $4.15.
Starting point is 02:03:33 That smells like an old man's balls, by the way. That is rough shit. Who wants cologne in prison? Visitors. Visitors. When you have visitors, you want to look nice and smell nice. Shower shoes, $0. Earplugs, 20 cents. All he can wear is state-issue jeans, sneakers, and obviously prison number shirt.
Starting point is 02:03:54 State-issue jeans, James. How fucking uncomfortable. Oh, man. Those got to be stiff and rip your skin up here he gets 60 he earns between 65 cents and a dollar 25 a day for uh his janitorial work depending on the hours he's uh said he's the people said he's very embarrassed the a friend of his uh no this isn't a friend this is camille ewald his adopted mother basically she says quote mike tries to camouflage the, but I can see it in his face. He says, Camille, I don't want you to see me where I'm at right now. He's very sad.
Starting point is 02:04:34 His jeans are awful. Camille, these jeans are just chafing. My thighs are just chafed. I can't take it anymore. I don't want you seeing me like this. He maintains his innocence still uh he tells his friends that he's innocent that desiree washington consented to have sex with him and he's very upset and um yeah he says that uh i can't heal i can't get any better is what he says so uh yeah they found him uh guilty and he said he's just so he can't get over the
Starting point is 02:05:04 fact that they found him guilty he doesn't understand it is what it and he said he's just so he can't get over the fact that they found him guilty he doesn't understand it is what it is he just he doesn't know Ewald said quote prison is hell for Mike no shit yeah yeah it's supposed to be for everybody Mike uh Mike says uh every day I go to sleep and it's like a dream when I wake up. This is his former assistant manager, Holloway, here. Mike says, I wake up and I say to myself, I'm still here. Yep. He reads, sees visitors, does that sort of shit. They said that all things considered, Superintendent Clarence Trigg of the prison said, Tyson has gotten along all right.
Starting point is 02:05:41 Now, he's had a lot of visitors a lot of very famous visitors including would you like to hear the list of people of that yeah as of 93 he had shaquille o'neal came to see him really uh yeah shack charles barkley hakeem olajuwon came to see him what i feel like hakeem olajuwon was trying to like give him religion probably because he's like such a mike have you thought about god mike make an album i bring you a book and you make album now um whitney houston came to see him is that right i'm like why the fuck is whitney houston there because i don't see bobby brown in the mix no angela boyd who is uh angie b i don't remember who that is. Music artist? Yeah, I remember Heather B.
Starting point is 02:06:26 I don't remember. I remember Heather B. and Stevie B., but I don't know Angie B. I know both of those. And Kenny G. And Kenny G. And MC Hammer came to see him, of course. Of course he did. Gave him a little too legit to quit in his hands, and he ran away.
Starting point is 02:06:42 He probably tried to bring him God, too. I'm sure he did riddick bow and don king came to see him that's nice of course don king better fucking come to see him but riddick yeah better riddick bow came to kiss the ring spike lee came to see him um 60 minutes interviewer ed bradley came to see him he actually did an interview with ed bradley uh al sharpton came to see him charles s dutton came to see him remember him shit the actor guy what a great actor he was rock at the time on rock remember that show where he's like a garbage man and i love that show baltimore row house and shit um joseph and katherine jackson michael
Starting point is 02:07:19 jackson's parents came to see him really they're jehovah's witnesses so i'm sure they were just stopping by with a lot of these people are a few of these people are jehovah's witnesses so i'm sure they were just stopping by with a lot of these people are a few of these people are missionaries you know what i'm saying somebody's somebody's trying to bilk him out of out of hope and uh malcolm x's widow betty shabazz as well came and saw him so these are a lot of missionaries coming well a lot of people a lot of people that it feels like they may be exploiting the situation for benefit of whatever organization they're into possibly or they're just nice people but you never know like i don't fix your shack going in there and being like mike you need to you need to find jesus mike
Starting point is 02:07:53 it's so much better for you if you just find jesus when you get out like when you get out i got a i got a great movie promise uh check it out i'm a genie right i'm a genie right and then i'm gonna fight you mike you're gonna be the you're gonna be the villain, Mike, and I'm going to fight you. And I'm a genie, right? For whatever reason, Nick Nolte's there. Yeah. We'd have Nick Nolte, Mike. Mike, knock out Nick Nolte for me, will you?
Starting point is 02:08:15 I don't like it from blue chips. So, yeah, I don't see that happening. Also, Mike doesn't trust anyone in prison. Doesn't trust anyone. Good move, Mike. Yeah, he says that the guard, he complains that the guards have subjected him to rough and embarrassing body searches. He quit his GED class that he was taking in prison, which doesn't look good when you're
Starting point is 02:08:40 going for parole, because he felt he was being ridiculed and uh unfairly you know i put him in speech pointed out yeah no it was just a ged program uh he also refuses to eat most of the food given to him like the inmate prepared food from the kitchen he fears that it might be contaminated as his problem he says and nuts across it yeah he said quote i don't trust anyone in here he's lost 50 pounds since he got in there which he was too he was 270 when he went in so yeah so it's still pretty fucking big he's fighting weight now he's 220 which is what he fought at so i mean he's he's fine uh because he refuses to eat it he says it stinks it smells bad and he can't eat it he's also said he heard stories that some of the inmate cooks will piss and shit in the food yeah and he doesn't want any part of that
Starting point is 02:09:30 um you know at all they said so mike eats uh this is his old assistant mike eats on uh eats only things that are packaged like tuna fish or crackers only commissary food he's eaten so uh they said he looks malnourished at times. One guy, this is Camille Ewald, said, quote, when I visited him on Thanksgiving, I said, Mike, why don't you eat? Mike said, Camille, the food is horrible. I said, you don't look black or white. You look green. You've got to eat, Mike.
Starting point is 02:10:01 Look like you're dying, Mike. He said, Camille, when you smell it it you don't want to eat it that's how bad it is so um the the prison superintendent who said he was getting along well he said that the food isn't contaminated they hadn't made sure to ask him he said no because our staff eats the same food as the inmates so that doesn't mean it's contaminated what the fuck are you talking about are you saying everybody eats inmate shit? Is that what you're telling me? I think he took it as the staff. Tyson thinks the staff is contaminating his food.
Starting point is 02:10:32 And he's like, why would we contaminate the food? We fucking eat it too. Whereas Mike's saying, no, inmates are shitting in the food and you're also eating inmate shit. Yeah, everyone's eating inmate shit, I think is the problem. This whole place is a human centipede. We're all eating our own shit. This is crazy. This is disgusting. He can have unlimited funds in his commissary account, so he makes do with the food from commissary, which sells potted meat for $0.55, spreadable tuna for $1.55, which is like more than a can of tuna costs in the store today.
Starting point is 02:11:04 It is. That's crazy. It's a lot. And nacho tortilla chips, which are $1. That's which is like more than a can of tuna costs in the store today. It is. That's crazy. It's a lot. And nacho tortilla chips, which are $1. That's his main things here. He quit the GED program saying, his assistant said, that they were, quote, trying to embarrass him and make a mockery of him. The superintendent, Trigg, said he doesn't know why Tyson stopped coming to classes.
Starting point is 02:11:24 The superintendent, Trigg, said he doesn't know why Tyson stopped coming to classes. He said in general, he said he's fairly low key if people leave him alone, but they don't. Tyson also complains that the inmates taunt him and yell at him a lot. You're in prison. You pick the biggest guy in the yard and knock him out. That's the fucking rule. Nobody wants to fight him. That's the thing.
Starting point is 02:11:45 They just want to yell at him from the cells. Because even with a shank, you don't want to fight Mike Tyson. Because if you have a shank, that means you have to get close enough to him to shank him, which means he is within fist distance of you, which means you could be dead immediately. 5'10
Starting point is 02:12:02 and fights guys 6'5 and knocks them out. Knock knocks them out to near death with fucking 10 ounce gloves on right all he has to do he should just if they're too bad that he has to wear the prison issued shirt otherwise he could just wear a shirt with mitch blood green's fucking face on it you know after that fight new york city night out this is his face this is one punch. Right. One.
Starting point is 02:12:27 Imagine if you shank me how many times I'll hit you. Holy shit. Your homemade blade isn't going deep enough to kill me right away. I'm going to hit you. Before I lose all the blood, I'm going to fucking cave your skull in probably. So that's the problem with Tyson there. But he says they're taunting him about the nature of his crime is what he said quote one day one day they said you fucking tree jumper this is what he told ed bradley i said what's a tree jumper and they said a tree jumper is a
Starting point is 02:12:57 rapist you know wait for little kids to go by you jump in a tree jump up a tree and go grab them i said oh christ yeah so that's their you know put rapists and pedophiles are kind of putting the same gross same type of thing um other inmates are like calling up tabloids with like i saw mike eat a you know this is what he eats for lunch and like so they're all trying to make a couple of bucks uh one inmate stole his id tag thinking that it was a collector's item and he could sneak it out to somebody who could sell it on the outside for him.
Starting point is 02:13:30 This is what I mean. So he can't just do his time because you can't. If you're a celebrity, you have to be more careful because if you have to do time, this is what fucking happens. Sorry, Mike. Be more careful of who you rape. How about don't rape, Mike? Don't rape at all. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 02:13:43 Don't rape at all. I meant that in a sarcastic way. Please don't take that serious. I know you did, but there will be someone out there going, oh my God, so rape someone who's not going to come forward? No, that's not what I fucking said. Jokes are jokes. Okay. So he, sorry, he complained that he's being rudely treated by the prison guards as well.
Starting point is 02:14:04 Now, how dare that? You've never heard of that before. A rude prison guard? Oh, no. They don't make a lot of money and they're dealing with the worst of the worst. The whole fucking prison is populated with the worst fucking people in America. He said, quote, when an inmate comes down to see. Oh, this is a this is a friend of his. When an inmate comes down to see a visitor, it's normal for guards to pat him down.
Starting point is 02:14:30 But Mike says they've gone to an extreme, giving him a body search. Then when they're searching, they've said searching. They've said things that aren't very flattering. OK, Mike, most of the time he doesn't let he lets it rub off. You know, he doesn't say anything to the guards. But a lot of times, man, it's almost like protecting your manhood. Mike says, I would never hit one of these guys. Christ, I know I'd kill him.
Starting point is 02:14:55 But Mike says he has to tell them, you just can't be treating me in any old kind of way now, just trying to make a name for yourself. He's like, you know, hey, don't be just trying to act tough because it's Mike Tyson. The trig, the superintendent, he says that they treat him fairly. Quote, basically, Mike's attitude is, I haven't done anything wrong. I haven't hurt anybody. I'm not going to let these people change me. That's what they said. Except for that rape part, Mike.
Starting point is 02:15:24 Except for that rape part mike except for that rape part jesus i mean there's a lot of fucking he wants you to really feel bad for him here you know like he this is he goes for all sympathy of the prison thing like total sympathy and uh you know it's hard to if god forbid he's convicted mistakenly then that's terrible obviously and that is awful and you'd feel bad for him. But otherwise, you got to feel bad for Desiree Washington, who actually was attacked by fucking Mike Tyson in a hotel room. I don't know. I mean, I feel sorry for all these people, Jimmy. I really do.
Starting point is 02:15:54 But not nearly as bad as I feel for Mike Tyson, technical buyer at Carnude Metal Box Engineering Limited. Technical buyer at Car Nude Metal Box Engineering Limited. Mike Tyser. Mike Tyson, pastor, Johnson City, Tennessee. Mike Tyson, service tech at Heart Heating and AC in Lubbock, Texas. Mike Tyson, CEO of the Austin Gun Club in Spicewood, Texas. And finally, Mike Tyson, owner at the Distinctive Edge and Barbershop in Shelby County, Tennessee.
Starting point is 02:16:31 Frenchie's Barbershop. So that's where he worked before. So there you go. By the way, all these guys, extremely white men. Very, very white men. Not one of them with the middle name of Customato. No, Customato's nothing like that.
Starting point is 02:16:42 None of his sons. In prison, he does like to read, they said. He likes to read. He, Jesus Christ, he bought a Lamborghini from prison, bought a $264,000 Lamborghini on the prison payphone. Wow. Lamborghini Diablo. That's pretty impressive.
Starting point is 02:17:01 That's wild. He read some Mao Zedong. He read, you know, he's reading Mao because we need Tyson to have communist influences, too. He said he received lots of sexually explicit, explicit letters from strangers, from women who sent him photos and, you know, all that sort of thing here. He he he was told I guess he told visitors to the prison. He no longer thought about boxing and he might never want to fight again. And, uh, now though he changed his mind. Now when he's getting closer to release, he said he wants to fight.
Starting point is 02:17:33 He said, quote, I was shadow boxing the other day and I said to myself, God, I look good. So he's ready to go. And I knocked out my shadow, knocked his ass out. Then I raped him, pinned him down and gave him the business right in the butt so camille ewald said quote mike says as soon as i come out i'm going to fight that's the first thing on the list she said um she said he does uh he runs lifts weights does uh 700 push-ups a day and he calls the present crop of heavyweight boxers pretenders so he's ready to get in there also converts to islam sort of i remember that kind of um eddie
Starting point is 02:18:13 mustafa muhammad is the guy who helps him convert eddie is a was a fighter we talked about him yeah uh he fought michael spinks uh lost michael sp Spinks before Tyson beat Mike Spinks. He said that Mustafa said, quote, I saw a different Mike Tyson. It wasn't the same Mike Tyson that was sent to prison. He says, after watching Mike discuss his religion with Larry King, I went to see if it was true, and it was. I wanted to see if Mike's soul had 100% been converted and he became a Muslim. So he said, to me, it's really bittersweet. It's bitter because Mike is incarcerated and he says he didn't commit the crime.
Starting point is 02:18:53 But what's sweet is that Mike has embraced Islam. So he's excited about that. Another thing he buys from prison is tigers. Yeah? He buys tigers. He said he was in prison. He said he was speaking with a car dealer on the phone and somehow the conversation turned to tigers which i don't know how that's even a
Starting point is 02:19:15 tiger you want a tiger i can get you a tiger i get you tigers first of all how many lamborghinis are sold on prison pay phones number one which. There's only been one. Yeah. So let's let Mike explain this whole thing. Let's see how this came about. He says, quote, so I'm in prison. I'm talking to my car dealer at the time. He has some cars that belong to a mutual friend, and he's discussing if he doesn't pay for these cars, I'm going to sell these cars to somebody and get some horses. I said, what?
Starting point is 02:19:46 You can just get horses and trade horses for cars? He's like, I didn't know that was an option. Because I had a lot of cars, I'd probably get some horses too. And he said, yeah, man, you can get horses, you can get cougars, lions, tigers. Why you'd want these things, I don't know, but that's the quote. You'd say anything with a heartbeat. Tyson then said he asked him if he could get him some tigers he's like well shit grab me some grab me a tiger when you're over there pick an extra one up for me uh he said gonna be out i mean he said quote the guy said imagine how cool that would be because I have a bunch of fancy cars. Imagine that, man.
Starting point is 02:20:25 You'd be in an Austin Martin, an Aston Martin or a Ferrari. You'd have a tiger right next to you, man. That'd be awesome. And I'm a young guy. I'm saying to myself, wow, that'd be cool. Get me some Cubs, man. So next thing you know, this guy's buying him tigers because it would be cool to have them next to him in a Ferrari. Unbelievable.
Starting point is 02:20:44 Here's Mike and his tiger in a Ferrari. I don't even know what to say about that shit. Too bad Netflix got Tiger King, because he could have been that in the first place. Fucking unreal. So 1993, he's going for an appeal. Yeah. Alan Dershowitz is his lawyer, as we know.
Starting point is 02:21:00 Anything that's in the paper, Alan Dershowitz is like, can you hire me, please? That guy is the scummiest of the scummy he just i hate him he just if he sees something he's going to attach himself to it for publicity and it's just fucking he's the reason why people hate lawyers there's guys like that and he's the worst guys like that so and allegedly likes children fucking jerk that i don't know about allegedly allegedly he he will argue that tyson did not get a fair trial because of misconduct of the prosecutors and errors by the judge and perjurious statements made by both washington and her parents yeah so he's going for a new appeal he says there's those witnesses that saw him in the limo they
Starting point is 02:21:43 were never heard from in the trial and that was enough error to give him a new trial. And Mike should absolutely have a new trial. He says that, quote, Mr. Tyson is the most famous or notorious convicted rapist in the world. He wears a scarlet letter on his forehead. So he has the right to fight this. So he is found. Fuck your appeal. Get back to prison, mister.
Starting point is 02:22:04 That's how that works as usual dershowitz makes a lot of noise and then doesn't do shit that's what he does generally that's his game but he got a lot of publicity and made a couple bucks and did fucking nothing as he always does got on a plane with a convicted child molester that's it and then and then helped defend oj right just because uh they didn't want him talking shit because he was talking shit about how guilty O.J. looked. So they hired him so he wouldn't talk shit about O.J. anymore on TV. Yeah. So 1994 HBO decides let's make a Mike Tyson movie. What do you say? He's like 20 fucking seven years old and they're like let's make a movie about his life so they do it's a it's a you know it's an hbo movie so it's back in the 90s those weren't quite what they are like in the 2000s yet right it was called tyson absolutely um they said they're looking this is their announcement in july of 1994 they're seeking actors to play the role and it's a it's always
Starting point is 02:23:03 a hard role to fill when you got like a professional athlete because the person has to not only look the physical part, but then also has to be able to act, which is those two things usually don't go together. And with this, he also has to be a convincing fighter, which is… Yeah. Another whole other ballgame. Right. Whole other thing. He's the only person that's ever pulled that off in a convincing way. He was great.
Starting point is 02:23:24 I loved Ali and it helped that Ali was a thin guy he's a thin framed guy so Will Smith could put on 30 pounds and do it Will Smith could never build to look like Tyson no that's the thing Tyson you need a specific physique like I heard they're making a WE movie
Starting point is 02:23:39 about like their beginnings and I'm like I heard who they got to play Hulk Hogan and I'm like nope that's not Hulk Hogan, Hulk H hogan six foot fucking seven and it was 300 pounds of super gas steroid muscles you're not hulk hogan you're just not gonna come off just get hulk hogan to play him and then even if you're a great actor do you have that kind of charisma like hulk hogan to show no you probably don't so it's a very difficult thing to do. So it's the same deal with Mike Tyson. They had open casting calls in New York.
Starting point is 02:24:09 They said the search brought out 150 people in Chicago and they're going to Atlanta and L.A., all of Miami, New Orleans. They're trying to pick somebody. They said the movie will explore the pursuit of the American dream and the difficulty of getting the psychological, of healing the psychological scars of growing up in the ghetto. That's what they say it's about.
Starting point is 02:24:31 Maybe we'll be about the difficulties of casting Mike Tyson. That's another thing. Also, at one point at this point, WCW World Championship Wrestling, where Eric Bischoff has taken over Monday Nitro has just started and Hulk Hogan has gone there. They are negotiating to film Hulk Hogan training with Mike Tyson in prison. They want to they're trying to get a thing where they can go into a prison and do this, where Tyson serving a sentence in exchange for permission and permission to film Tyson. where Tyson's serving his sentence. In exchange for permission to film Tyson, WCW has offered to show the July 17th Great American Bash pay-per-view free at the prison.
Starting point is 02:25:13 So they'll give you a free pay-per-view for the guys to watch, so they can watch that and then kill each other, and then fucking, for you to be able to make a bunch of money doing that. We'll give you something that costs $20. A prison could order it for $20. Why would they let that happen?
Starting point is 02:25:29 So the role ends up going to Michael Jai White, who turns into what superhero did he play? Michael Jai White? Yeah, he played a superhero. He played... No, I don't know. Fuck! I don't even know. What the fuck?
Starting point is 02:25:43 Superhero. You'll know him when you look at him. Yeah. Motherfucker, he played Superhero. You'll know him when you look at him. Yeah. Motherfucker. He played a superhero. Let's Google him. In the 2000s. What the fuck was he?
Starting point is 02:25:51 His name was Michael? How about that? Michael. Yeah. Michael J-A-I. Jai White. Oh, that guy. What was he?
Starting point is 02:25:58 Is that right? What superhero? What comic book movie was he in? Or something like that. Superhero. He was a superhero of first everywhere i'll spawn spawn thank you fucking spawn there you go he's the main dude there you go that's him he does a great mike tyson i mean you're not he's obviously a guy jack's in moral combat there you
Starting point is 02:26:21 go yes yeah he is a great mike. He is a great Mike Tyson. He really does. He encompasses him very well. He looks like him. He's got the same kind of ferocity. He does a good job, anyway. And he's got a fucking big body. That's a big guy.
Starting point is 02:26:36 He's a big upper body, big shoulders, big chest, absolutely. So the guy who directed the movie, he says, what is his name here uh jesus christ uli edel uli edel yeah directed it he said that um this project was a bizarre one for two reasons one i live this mike tyson story and two it's my first film. So he's saying that the movie encompasses Mike Tyson from eight to twenty five. Yes. That first role is Mike Tyson.
Starting point is 02:27:10 His first role. So he got into this whole thing. Yeah. He says that this is yet that short 17 year span was so rich with drama that it's certainly a viable two hour movie. It's a fucking two part podcast. This first is this. That's what we've done. I hope that 20 years from now, someone makes it a three hour film and someone adds the last hour, which we'll see unfolding before our eyes.
Starting point is 02:27:33 Then there'll be another ending. Yeah, that's coming up next week. So March 1995, his lookalike daughter can't wait to see him. It's that's the newspaper headline. Tyson's lookalike daughter awaits him. She's four years old. They said that had looks like him talks like him has his mannerisms a four-year-old girl should talk like that a grown man shouldn't that's the difference sorry yeah that's really funny kimberly scarborough the mother said quote they both put their bottom lip
Starting point is 02:28:07 they both pout their bottom lip and suck their thumbs i don't know why tyson's sucking his thumb either she also says quote she wears a triple width shoe just like he does it's so funny to see them together sometime uh sometimes uh and she says mike's excited about getting out of jail and being a proper dad i've taken her to disney world but now he says it's his turn and she says, Mike's excited about getting out of jail and being a proper dad. I've taken her to Disney world, but now he says it's his turn. And she started to brag about her daddy. When kids at school tease her, she says, my daddy's going to beat you up. That makes Mike laugh like crazy. He told her to say it.
Starting point is 02:28:38 Yeah. He said, Tom, I'll beat you up. So, uh, they're the exact same James. They both order a Sunday with sprinkles. They're the exact same, James. They both order a sundae with sprinkles. Yeah, same shit. Scarborough, the woman, she says that she and Tyson are friends, but not romantically involved anymore. But they're happy to remain friends and raise the baby. So that's nice, actually.
Starting point is 02:28:57 A healthy relationship with a woman he has. It's the first one. This one and Camille Ewald are the only two. And his sister. So Desiree Washington, on the other hand, because of all this attention of Tyson getting out of jail, she's trying to stay low-key and avoid shit. She was pursuing the civil suit and everything. She's now a 22-year-old Providence College student at that time. She declined comment on him getting out.
Starting point is 02:29:28 Her lawyer said for nearly four years she's attempted to pick up the pieces of her life and move on. The trauma of the rape has a profound and lasting impact on her life, especially if it's in the fucking public every goddamn day. She lives with her mother in East Providence and has been student teaching fifth graders at an elementary school. She's trying to work toward her certification, a certification in elementary and special education so that's what she's doing so she seems like a nice lady yeah um the superintendent of school says she's doing a nice job the kids like her and she should be allowed to continue to do it without bringing so much attention to her
Starting point is 02:29:59 leave her alone and you should now he could get out in september of 94 even though his parole is set for may of 95 yeah there's a special thing so he now goes to the judge and writes a letter to the judge he still won't admit that he raped desiree washington but he calls his conduct inexcusable and says that he's sorry for it but won won't admit to doing it. So they say, well, you're not getting out early either. Then motherfuckers fuck off. So he's not getting out early.
Starting point is 02:30:31 Um, there's that. So he doesn't get out. Uh, there are opinions from the newspaper. This is what I mean. I wanted to give you an idea cause we think of everything in terms of 2021, right?
Starting point is 02:30:42 2021. What would we think of this in June, 1994? It's a different fucking world it's 27 years ago 26 so different world let's see what some of the newspaper opinions this is from the indianapolis news in indianapolis indiana so this is the place where it happened middle america whatever the fuck so let's see these are a bunch of opinions sent to the newspaper here quote this is from nathan gilbert of indianapolis he's changed and it's rather obvious that he's tried hard to do well seeing the education he had when he got in there and seeing how much he has improved is an inspiration judge patricia gifford had it in for him from the start
Starting point is 02:31:22 okay john prescott of indianapolis judge gifford should it in for him from the start. Okay. John Prescott of Indianapolis. Judge Gifford should be removed from future Tyson hearings. Her view in those is that those who are guilty, who act remorseful, should be released before those who are innocent and adhere to their innocence. As for Desiree, she's either stupid, a con artist, or both. If she gets rich off this, then we'll all know. This is the attitude this is in the new these people are putting their name on this sending it to their local fucking newspaper this isn't anonymous facebook things or a meme uh here's walker henderson i'm white but i think
Starting point is 02:31:56 tyson got a raw deal before and i think he got a raw deal again uh marie marie thomas of indianapolis he should not have been locked up there's no way that anybody would have locked anybody else up based on the evidence they had against him this case is about money and publicity not about guilt or innocence yeah but wasn't there a jury i mean yeah it's just her word against his and that's what she's saying uh bonnie jeffers of martinville the judge is only trying to show she has the power to keep him in jail she's a judge she knows that she's well aware of that the only thing he did wrong was to let that girl into his limo these are women shirley shirley lane of indianapolis
Starting point is 02:32:38 first desiree washington went into his room at an indecent hour and knew what he had in mind. Second, the judge is working to make a name for herself. If the judge weren't a woman, Tyson would have already gotten a release. Shirley Lane. Here we are 30 years later, James. I didn't know the judge's name. Miss Washington. These people did.
Starting point is 02:33:00 Yeah, that's crazy. 30 years later. I wonder if they know her name now. You know what I mean? Yeah. She sure didn't make a fucking name for herself no the judge no you're gonna know yeah it's uh here's mel brown of greenwood judge gifford is bound and determined to keep tyson in as long as she can she's biased madonna harrison of indianapolis he served enough time we don't
Starting point is 02:33:24 need to spend any more money on him. Desiree deserved whatever happened in that hotel room because everybody knew his reputation. Madonna Harrison. Desiree deserved whatever happened in that hotel room because everybody knew his reputation. That's what people would say back then. Unbelievable statement. Nobody would ever write that to the newspaper with their name on that now. No, not today. Publish that, please.
Starting point is 02:33:49 Wow. Robert Robinson of Indianapolis. He's just angry because there's too many Robs in his name, that's all. What little faith I had in the criminal justice system in Indianapolis has disappeared. It was a lousy verdict. Phyllis
Starting point is 02:34:03 Cruz of Indianapolis. All Judge Gifford wants is to hear him say that he did it. If he didn't do it, kudos to you, Michael. Don't let anyone press you into saying anything that isn't true. Arnold Scott. Noblesville. If he'd become an ordained minister while he was in
Starting point is 02:34:20 prison, they still wouldn't have released him. Why would that make them release him? Because he became an ordained minister. That means nothing to to me that just means you've learned how to lie in a more organizational level now fuck off care about that shit heard of five minute ministries.com you can get ordained in literally five minutes james that is the dumbest statement on earth so stupid here's for one anonymous person out of all these one anonymous this is just more proof of the injustice of the system and how whites and blacks are treated differently just look at the physician who had sex with that 13 year old boy is she serving jail time no so that's that and then
Starting point is 02:34:56 mc parker of indianapolis justice will prevail but mike tyson should be should be free it's a matter of notoriety we wanted to be on the map and go down in history as the city that brought mike tyson down that's that's what they printed those are all the ones i didn't pick and choose the ones that weren't supportive of him that's what they printed so that's wild um you couldn't even imagine that and back then it was more about like back then it was more about black and white than it was about gender. Like women had no shit for women. Fuck.
Starting point is 02:35:29 She deserved what she got. That was a woman who said that. Like that was all about that. It was more about race, whereas I think now it's like I don't even know. But then she's a Desiree Washington is literally a Miss Black America contestant. So it's not like I could see people saying that if she was like it was black on white crime. It would have been the O.J. trial. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 02:35:50 Also, and they would have. That's what they would have said. OK, well, this or that. But like she's black. I get that. They're saying that they want to put black. They're famous black man in prison. I get that person.
Starting point is 02:36:00 Right. Yeah. But I don't. Yeah, I get that. But then in the same breath, I don't know. Are they trying to protect? It's hard hard to tell it's hard to tell how and i'm not even saying what was right or wrong because i have no fucking idea i'm not i'm not the judgment of history on that kind of shit i'm just saying nowadays i don't know if it would be more about race more about gender i think
Starting point is 02:36:17 the lines are kind of a lot more weird and gray now so it would be different we got a pitcher in la who will figure that out here shortly i'm sure yeah he's gonna find out um march 25th 1995 mike is released from prison released he spent 1095 days in jail what is that and uh three years yeah three years and change it's basically uh uh but the only figures uh he said it's he wants to get the only figures he cares about is his money right now bottom line he said he wants to uh wants to fight he wants to get money uh he wore the like the white cap the muslim cap out of there wore that uh fans lined up down the road people sold t--shirts that said, Fight Back, Mike. People had signs, We Still Love You, pictures, cheering.
Starting point is 02:37:12 They were selling T-shirts, too, saying, quote, Tyson is back. Now justice has been served. March 25th, 1995. Street vendors, 10 bucks on the side of the road. Probably Don King back there. Bring me that cash, everyone. He's collecting it. Did not go to mike no shit uh his friend of his said quote we drove all night from decatur he went in prison uh when we were in high school and we made a pact that we'd be there when he got out oh this is the people that
Starting point is 02:37:38 were watching to get him these are just the fans on the side of the road we think he's innocent when when we were in high school, and now we're 19. It's not like you. It's three years ago. Right. When I was just a boy. You're not 40. We saw Ali and today Tyson.
Starting point is 02:37:56 It's a big score for us. That's the thing. Don't compare. Okay. There's an easy comparison to make because both men, because Mike Tyson is four years off boxing, which is exactly what Muhammad Ali had off boxing. In the prime of their athletic lives, the prime of their body's life, they had that part of their career taken away. So people make that comparison. But Muhammad Ali was a matter of conscience.
Starting point is 02:38:26 It was a matter of all of this shit it was a lot like making a big statement yeah on his and gave away his career for the betterment of society he was being a humanitarian Mike Tyson raped a beauty pageant contestant there's a much
Starting point is 02:38:42 different way so I get that you're saying that that and that but there's different circumstances to it. So that's all I'm saying. Now, Mike gets a big police escort from jail, too. He has a caravan, a limo, a Lincoln, all of these cars. And then the cops are giving them a whole... are giving them a whole... They give him... Yeah, they all go out on the highway,
Starting point is 02:39:07 basically make like a funeral procession, going 115 miles an hour. The cops leading the way go in 115. My God. So he could get to the airport. So there you go. He was late for the plane. So the cops went 115 miles an hour
Starting point is 02:39:22 to get him there on time. So in addition to all that, he's got a new girlfriend jimmy yeah new girlfriend 28 year old medical student at georgetown university which a medical student at georgetown that's a person who has their shit together uh right there fuck yeah wow uh he will apparently attend her graduation ceremonies in May now that he's out. His reverend, a reverend of hers, Reverend Charles Williams of Indianapolis, said, you'll be hearing a lot about Mike and Monica. She was there for him all the time, right there from the start of his sentence. Regina High School. It's a Catholic school for girls in Maryland and graduated from the University of Virginia with a psychology major and now she is a couple months away
Starting point is 02:40:10 from a medical degree from Georgetown. Fuck, that's incredible. This is an incredible woman. She also has a five-year-old daughter and she tells her friends that she plans on becoming a pediatrician. This woman is wonderful. A saint. A saint. So, there is, and I'm going to say say this there is a lot of we'll call
Starting point is 02:40:28 it white stank on on this whole thing there's a lot of angry old white people that are really mad that tyson's out of jail not just because they think he's a rapist and like oh well he's a they just hate his fucking guts it becomes a cultural issue of where it's an age thing people our age liked mike tyson and you have to understand culturally the like we read i read you all those newspaper things that the people were saying to show you how culturally it was all on mike's like the young culture was on mike's side yeah it was yeah you know i'm amped up they locked the champ up, leaving my brain in handcuffs, headed for Indiana, stabbing women like the Phantom. That's a fucking Nas line from that time. Stabbing women like the fucking obvious.
Starting point is 02:41:14 You know what I'm saying? Like, it's not a that's just the way it was. And people were like, yeah, that's fucked up. They lock Mike up. And especially in New York, we were all like, what the fuck? They lock fucking Mike up. You know, it's like Mike's doing good. Now it's like, oh, that's fucked up.
Starting point is 02:41:27 Fuck no. You know? So I'm sure it's a hard thing to say, man. It's really hard. And now looking back as an adult, you look back and go, Jesus Christ. I mean, yeah, he was groping everybody. I was so adamant about that guy. Yeah.
Starting point is 02:41:39 I just, you know. So there's an editorial here. And this is, I'm only giving you this one because it's very representative of a lot of the editorials of the time. It was very kind of race-baity. One says this, quote, in other towns, wary citizens may want to know where the sex offenders sleep, but in Harlem, this offender was welcomed by thousands as a hero. That's a very specific, it's a very specific kind of a way to go. In other towns, an ex-con may skulk into his old terrain,
Starting point is 02:42:11 but on 125th Street in the blistering heat, this man was met by a reggae band and cheers. And the charitable offices where he delivered a $100,000 check, the children danced and sang the Mike Tyson rap. True, he's not your mom or your pops but in some households he gets more props that's what it is because he's good yeah he's giving him 100 grand too what are they supposed to say fuck you it's a charity they need money they don't give a fuck
Starting point is 02:42:36 who's giving it great put your rape money into the fucking the till we need shit for kids don king says tyson's mind by the way if anybody's got any other ideas he says quote anyone who doubts that he'll fight for me is wishful thinking he said the only prayer they've got is that i go to jail and then he said we have not even discussed boxing with mike people who get caught up in marketing fights become mercenary and lose sight of the significant fact that mike has had his freedom taken away from him. Next to life, liberty is the biggest thing.
Starting point is 02:43:10 I think the public recognizes Mike was innocent, but he's not bitter or hostile. He's back on the high road. So, yeah, that's Don King. Spitting at Mad Rosie. Mad Rosie. His ex-trainer, Kevin Rooney, says, quote, there's a little Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde in Mike.
Starting point is 02:43:27 He says that he doesn't understand. He says regardless of his sincerity, he said that he agrees with the National Organization for Women, saying that there is a, quote, misguided devotion to a convicted rapist. And he said making a hero out of Mike Tyson is not new, but it is wrong, is what they said. So May 8th, 1995, the police department, Bernardsville, New Jersey Police Department, says publicly they're not happy with how they were portrayed in the Tyson movie. Not thrilled. No?
Starting point is 02:44:03 Yeah. They said, this is the um what is this the chief of police i guess he says people all over the country are going to say my god what a podunk police department specifically the chief is upset about a scene that depicts an officer pulling a gun on tyson in the actual incident the police were summoned to the tyson home after reports of domestic abuse but no weapons were drawn. It made the policeman look sloppy. My people do not look like that, is what he said.
Starting point is 02:44:30 So there you go. They ought to call it a fiction movie because it never happened. Okay. Yeah, we're not worried about you guys. Sorry. That wasn't the main concern. Right. Also, May 1995, it's announced that Mike will speak for a women's group on mother's day
Starting point is 02:44:45 what it turns out it's not true though um somebody announced that it wasn't true people were like are you fucking kidding me um yeah he said he's never had the the agreement was the fresno women international network had said tyson would be one of the speakers at an event and uh women's groups reacted angrily because he's a convicted rapist and so um yeah they they said never mind and uh that's how that ended up going on now he's got this tiger cage i told you about he's got these tigers well there's a guy who jeff uh fenich who was a former trainer of Mike's, who recalls when Mike Tyson locked him in a cage with a tiger. Now, since then,
Starting point is 02:45:32 Mike has said nowadays, he said he regrets ever getting the tigers. He said it was wrong to keep them cooped up in a mansion in a cage and all that kind of shit. He also said, quote, there's no way you can domesticate these cats 100%. No way that's going to happen. They kill you by accident, especially He also said, quote, There's no way you can domesticate these cats 100 percent. No way that's going to happen.
Starting point is 02:45:49 They kill you by accident, especially when you're playing rough with them. You're punching them back. They they get hyped up, hit you back and you're dead. I shouldn't have had them in my house believing they were domesticated. I was wrong. You're you're what? You're punching them. He's he's fucking like play fighting, that's how wow yeah don't fight mike
Starting point is 02:46:07 tyson so jeff fennec who is a friend and former trainer he says the day that he locked him in a cage with the tigers he described tyson as quote one of the most loyal and generous guys in the world uh but he does say the first time i went into the house he had a tiger Mike had me and threw me in the cage and kind of locked me in there I'm not scared of too many things but I certainly had to change my undies when I got out of that cage his next fight and we'll end on this
Starting point is 02:46:35 his first fight back his next fight, first fight out is against a big goofy Irish white guy named Peter McNeely this fucking goofball was embarrassed himself he didn't even need tyson to do it no well let's give some quotes from peter mcneely i'm peter mcneely from medfield mass on saturday night watch me kick mike tyson's ass medford medford yeah medford yeah medfield it wasfield? Yeah, it's Medfield. All right. Medfield, Mass.
Starting point is 02:47:06 Watch me kick Mike Tyson's ass. He's writing poetry like an asshole. Nice, Ali. Thanks, Muhammad Ali. You're not in fighting or poetry. Irish Ali. He's a 17-to-1 underdog in this fight, McNeely. Jesus, he's 36-1 coming in.
Starting point is 02:47:23 So his record's fine, but he's not fought mike tyson is the uh the only problem here he uh will be receiving his highest payday ever 540 000 so yeah tyson's gonna make like 25 million or 20 million off this but still 540 grand's a lot um he's got 36 and one with 30 knockouts against a bunch of tomato cans um he says about it he goes so what mcneely said quote every fighter in history has fought lesser opponents few have fought lesser opponents with that great skill that peter mcneely has that's what don king says don king says that happens all the time but nobody's fought with the skill of this man this guy's's great. He's a great boxer. Then Don King says, quote, don't discriminate against the white guy.
Starting point is 02:48:09 Give him a chance. Yeah. He's smart. He can do things. He's smart. He's smart. He also predicted that Tyson would come out like the Tyson of old. He said that, yeah.
Starting point is 02:48:26 predicted that tyson would come out like the tyson of old he said that uh yeah he said apparently the odds makers are giving betters a chance to wager on whether the fight will last longer than two and a half rounds mike tyson says quote i'm going to knock peter mcneely out yeah that's all and then he says you come and watch i'm sure you'll find it very stimulating it's gonna be very funny you guys and it is uh by the way there's seats around the ring fifteen hundred dollars a pop for this 40 bucks on pay-per-view wow and i saw this fight uh somebody i know got the pay-per-view we all chipped in five dollars or whatever the fuck it was you know how you do it was back in the day it was hilarious and we are gonna watch the entire fight right now that's how long it doesn't take much time to watch it. It's so good.
Starting point is 02:49:06 It really doesn't. I just got to find the beginning of it and the intros. Peter McNeely in the intros, by the way, really looks like he's trying to like, I could do this. I'm tough. I don't care. Nobody else is talking me into it,
Starting point is 02:49:17 so I'll talk myself into it. Let's go. Peter Hurricane McNeely. Yeah. Let's see here. It looked great. It was a beautiful looking fight. Here he is. He's a big fuck, I mean. Yeah. Let's see here. It looked great. It was a beautiful looking fight. Here he is.
Starting point is 02:49:27 He's a big fuck, I mean. Yeah, he is. He's got good shoulders. Look at his face. His face, though, looks dumb. He looks like a big, dumb, stupid fucking mook. Look at him. What?
Starting point is 02:49:38 Where am I? And then this is Mike Tyson looking like his best. He looks so good. This is when this guy is bouncing back and forth he's talking look at him he's looking like I'm not afraid of you and Tyson's like bitch I will fucking eat you stand still I will eat your body parts eyes moving only yeah and he's he's smiling McNeely he's smiling the smile looks stupid are you smiling at mike tyson before he's about to beat you up you dumb fuck so let's watch the whole fight yeah mcneely bum rushes him he's he's on he ran sprinted he's throwing and he's knocked down already in five seconds he fell down because that
Starting point is 02:50:18 wasn't even really from a punch that was from he was off balance because he was just swinging and running he looks like a complete goofball right there. He looks like a not a ring. Mills Lane telling him, take it easy. Standing eight count. He's about to kill you if you're not careful. And then Tyson just starts. Oh, man.
Starting point is 02:50:35 McNeely's swinging back at him. McNeely was definitely said, my only chance is I can hit him as hard as he can hit me. So he's already toe to toe with him. He's already taken the punch to the face that has him wobbly. yeah it's already over you see him though he's standing up you know as much as anybody ever has up in tyson's grill but that's not smart that's not you can't beat tyson like that you got to beat him like lennox lewis and stay away from him and jab him and he's trying to never let him get close to him yeah he's using his height against him to try to push him he's rubbing he was just rubbing his head on his forehead over the referee's head.
Starting point is 02:51:07 He ducks a punch there. Tyson's holding him while McNeely- He's got a hold of his hand. Got a hold there. There's about 20 seconds left in this. He's trying to put his hand out to shake Tyson's hand, and Tyson ain't having any part of it. No, I just need to get a couple of clean shots on him. Left hook.
Starting point is 02:51:23 Oh! He's already done with his knee. Oh, there's the upp the uppercut boom that uppercut just shook his whole fucking head he fell down mcneely popped right back up he's not looking quite as uh no he's having as much fun now though and he's he needs to look at mills and mills oh that's it they call it they've already called his his his people come in the ring and get him look at that they threw the fucking towel in on him we did it he's gonna we did it that's 540 grand let's go that's the fight you got it's called it it's called a dq because they run into the ring so rather than before tyson knocked him out because he knocked him down that first time yeah that guy was gonna get up
Starting point is 02:52:01 and tyson was gonna knock him down again and within 10 seconds period went to a knee and mills didn't get in the middle of it i don't know he got right back up and then tyson hit him with that uppercut rocked his head he fell down popped right back up again he could see yeah he was done he was not going to last five more minutes i don't he wasn't going to last the rest of the round he's expending is so sloppy. It's not. Oh, you can see it right away. This is not a match. He has his adrenaline going at peak fucking ratio. It's all the way up. And Mike's fighting because he's calm.
Starting point is 02:52:35 He's fought these big fights before. So Mike wins 129 in round one. There's the big comeback. And then Peter McNeely ended up. Do you remember the Pizza Hut commercials? Yeah. For the stuffed crust pizza where the pizza, he'd go to bite it, but then he would accidentally hit himself in the chin and he would fall down and get knocked out.
Starting point is 02:52:52 Yeah. That's what that was. I think he took a bite out of the crust and then spun it and the corner hit him in the chin and he was dead. And then he fell. Yeah, whatever it was. So Mike Tyson is 42 and one and ready for the next chapter of his life, which will be brought to you.
