Starting point is 00:00:10 Hello, everybody, and welcome back to crime and sports. Yay! Yay indeed, Jimmy. Yay indeed. My name is James Petro Gallo. I'm here with my co-host. I'm Jimmy Wiseman. Thank you, folks, so much for joining us today.
Starting point is 00:00:35 And another very fun, wild, crazy edition of Crime and Sports. As always, part two of Michael Pittman today. It's... He's a fun tale so far. We'll get into all that and more. Definitely, though, head over to shut up and give me murder.com. Get your merchandise because there is everything you can imagine. Coffee cups to skateboard's on there with every saying you've ever heard of.

So good luck see if you can get a couple there. And then Boston, November the 14th, Saturday night, it's actually in Medford right outside Boston. Avoid the traffic and all that. And it's easier to park. And it's a nice theater, too.

So, 20207 is coming up. And I'm so tired. I almost said 2017 tour is almost coming out. So that's where my head is at right now.

And it's fun for us too. So we're going to do one of those for crime and sports. Then for Small Town Murder, we're going to talk about a Netflix documentary called The Widower, Till Death Do Us Part. This guy is he has six wives and four of them are dead, not at the same time over his life.
Starting point is 00:02:32 Unless you're 130, 140 years old, you probably shouldn't have four dead ex-wives at any point in time. So that's a very interesting story, and he's a bad guy. So we'll talk all about that and a whole lot more there. That's Patreon.com slash crime in sports. And then, because that's not enough, even though that should be, it's not, damn it, not for us. We also want to give you more. And on top of that, in addition to that, you are going to get everything we put out, both small town murders, your stupid opinions and crime and sports all ad free with your Patreon.

Patreon.com slash crime in sports, price of a cup of coffee, everybody. There you go. That said, away we go. Michael Pittman, part two. When we left off, he was on the Buccaneers there. And they were winning a Super Bowl and everything seemed fine and dandy and all that kind of stuff. They're going to win the Super Bowl here. So November 16, 2002, the Herald Sun newspaper has a big headline, seeing isn't believing.
Starting point is 00:03:39 No. This is kind of the wrap on Pittman always. He looks like a star, but Michael Pittman hasn't run like one, at least not yet.
Starting point is 00:03:48 We're still waiting. I really feel like he's this type of guy that when a general manager sits down with him or looks at him, they go, my God, look at him.
Starting point is 00:03:57 How? Yeah. Look at him. He's got to be amazing. He's this close to bust. I mean, he can't not bust out. Look at him. And then he never,
Starting point is 00:04:06 it never happens. It's just, Where's it at? He's that guy. Where's your fire? Yeah. Well, he's got, his body's crazy. It's gorgeous.
Starting point is 00:04:15 His neck, his neck, it's bigger at the base than it is. It has to go in to just get to his head. That's how fucking big his neck is. The helmet wedges on. It's crazy. It doesn't need a chin strap. His arms are ridiculous. Like he's a gigantic bodybuilder.
Starting point is 00:04:35 So impressive. They look like Carl, Leathers and Predator. There's that scene. There's that shot when him and Schwarzenegger give each other five and they hold on their flexing biceps. That's exactly what his arms look like. Carl Leather's version of that. Not quite short from, isn't it? Yes, absolutely. Yeah. Them home together. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:04:55 It's a big, it's basically the most... Cartoon black arm looks like Pittman's arm. The most homoerotic shot in the history of film. And that includes gay porn, by the way. That includes all forms of gay pornography. has never been as homo erotic as that shot. Anyway, so the Tampa Bay paper here says, he sees what you see. The familiar images move in front of Michael Pittman's eyes,
Starting point is 00:05:18 time and again, never adding up to what he wants them to be. The running back, the one with the body from Mount Olympus, skitters around the corner. He looks reckless, impatient, and the play, promising for a moment, turns out to be less than you might have expected. Pitman looks, size, then begins, to rewind the tape again.
Starting point is 00:05:38 Dang, Mike, his wife, Melissa, says, how many times you're going to watch that? One more time. Maybe a couple more times after that. Just long enough to decide if he should have cut here or cut there. If he should have sped up or slowed down. If there was another yard he could have gained, another angle he could have taken.
Starting point is 00:05:54 It doesn't have great instincts. It sounds like he, like, there's a quality he's got. Yeah, gets down and then goes, well, where else should I have gone? Yeah, where I, I, it feels. feel like, I don't feel like Barry Sanders ever did that once. No, he was like, he was like, he didn't regret a single play.
Starting point is 00:06:12 You know, it's just a different thing. I mean, looking at film and figuring it out is one thing, but that's mainly knowing where your blocking is going to be and, you know, whatever, but not to, uh, to go, oh, I should have cut somewhere else. It's usually an instinctual thing for a good running back. Maybe that's the difference. Generally, no, yeah, what you need to do. I think that's the difference.
Starting point is 00:06:33 Um, they said, is there in his living room in front? of, oh, it is there in his living room in front of his replays that you can sum up Pittman's first nine games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. You can find it all there, the disappointment and the search for clues as to why Pittman, too, has been less than many would have expected. Pitman says, let's give him an in their own words here, I think. I think it's, uh, we'll kick off with one here because it's pretty dramatic here. In their own words, quote, this is probably the toughest stretch of my career. I'm disappointed, very disappointed. For some, some reason it hasn't happened. But at the same time, I'm out there busting my butt to get the job done.
Starting point is 00:07:12 I'm not down on myself. I'm not down on my teammates. Sounds like a virgin that's made a vow to have sex before he graduates. I'm going to have sex. It's fucking Stifler over here. I'm out there trying. He's giving it a shot. He said, by now, you would have hoped Pittman had arrived. It's been years since he was supposed to have arrived. That's the problem. Yeah. That was the plan when the buck signed him as a free agent. Pittman was supposed to be the every downback the team had lacked, a budding star on the verge of blossom. That's the other thing with anybody who was at the Cardinals, they'd go, well, I mean, he was on the Cardinals. So he obviously can't be full potential because he's on the Cardinals, obviously. Yeah, someone's got a break there, and that team is never going to allow it.
Starting point is 00:07:54 No, there was so many guys who on the Cardinals were, and then they went other places and became great players. It's constant. So much so that right this second time, the Garrison Hurst effect. billboards. There are billboards on the sides of freeways in Arizona of fans that it's fan-funded begging the bidwels to send the self-the-team. Dude, I would, that's the thing. I don't understand how people can be fans of teams and give them money who have shitty owners.
Starting point is 00:08:20 I would refuse to do it. I will not. I won't go to a restaurant if I think the owner's an asshole and he gives money to places I don't like and I won't fucking patronize your stupid football team if I know you don't give two shits about anything. They don't. been the biggest fucking crooks in the NFL for 90 years. They're fucking pieces of shit who have sucked every dollar out of everything,
Starting point is 00:08:45 forced the fucking city to build them a goddamn stadium even though they don't put out. Shit. Constantly. Fuck them in the asshole and fuck their team. And any Cardinal fan who is disappointed at the end of a year only has to look in the fucking mirror because you knew that those people don't give a goddamn shit. about that. Fuck that.
Starting point is 00:09:05 No, I don't like Steinbrenner's kids. I don't even like the Yankees anymore because I can't root for them because I can't stand those fucking kids. There's no art. I don't want them to have any more money in their pockets. They can fuck off. They've gotten plenty out of us. Fuck you.
Starting point is 00:09:20 I'm looking for new teams. I swear to God, the Giants do. They can suck my ass too. It's hard to find anybody anymore. I'm going to flip and be a Jets fan at this point. I don't care. I don't care anymore. All the owners are just all about the,
Starting point is 00:09:33 collective what even is that? All the teams get the same money? That's not fair. Well, it's a giant multi-billionaire club. Yeah. All they care about
Starting point is 00:09:46 is colluding to suck every dime out of our pockets. That's all it is. It's like if every fifth like Mark Zuckerberg and this one and that one, pick all your billionaires if they all got together
Starting point is 00:09:56 to do something, you're getting fucked and you should check your asshole because you're going to be bleeding from it. Guaranteed. If they all start charging a little bit of money to use their stupid social media. And then they all just collectively take a piece a little bit for everybody.
Starting point is 00:10:11 They all do that. The owners used to be different. You used to have your Charlie Finley's little weirdo guys who were eccentric and none of that exists anymore. Even George Steinbrenner was, I can't, as a person, he's a complete asshole. I didn't agree with much of what he did. But he would have rather lost money in one than made money and lost. Find me an owner that's willing to do that now. The desire to win is supposed to be tops.
Starting point is 00:10:36 That's why you would buy a team. Yeah. Because in the 70s, it wasn't very profitable. It was profitable, but it wasn't like it is now. So that's why you would buy a team back then or in the 60s. But now you'd buy a team because it's an amazing asset you can borrow against that goes up by a billion fucking dollars every year. Every year. So, I mean, that's why you'd buy it now.
Starting point is 00:10:57 It has nothing to do with whether you'd win or not. You could not even like the sport. The ownership party must be fucking. incredible. Jesus Christ, forget it. Can you imagine the parties they fucking show? Forget about it.
Starting point is 00:11:08 So I mean all this shit you can fly around on you know jets funded by the team you can do all. It's crazy dude. So anyway, they go on to say Pittman thought so too
Starting point is 00:11:18 that it was supposed to be his breakout season. By now, Pittman says, he would have expected to have about 700 yards at four and a half per carry which he's never had
Starting point is 00:11:27 four and a half per carry his whole career. What would make him think he's going to get that now? Instead, he has 4, 13 yards at three and a half per carry, which is what he averages basically over his career. He's not that great.
Starting point is 00:11:39 He has not been a rolling ball of butcher knives. The fuck does that mean? I guess breaking tackles? Carving up defenses? Carving up defenses, yeah. And those who once thought he was the answer have moved on to other questions. He hears what you hear. In Tampa Bay, fans have long believed the position of running back was part of a democratic process.
Starting point is 00:12:02 They cheer for Mike Allstott, and they long for Aaron Stecker. Pittman, these days, he appears to be running as an independent. Frankly, the guy looks like he should be a load. He has Mercury's feet and Hercules' arms. Jesus Christ. Mercury and Hercules, that's good. Yeah, those are a good combo. No one in the Bucks locker room looks more like an NFL player than Pittman.
Starting point is 00:12:25 Actually, he doesn't look like a wrestler. He doesn't look like a football player. So far, however, the part of the park. haven't added up. You keep waiting for Pittman to have a breakout game, but it hasn't arrived. There are times with the ball under his arm, Pittman appears to be in too big of a hurry. He does not run with that relaxed flow of a great back, evaluating as he moves, allowing lanes to develop before he explodes through it. Sometimes Pittman doesn't wait on his blocking to form, which is understandable with this organization. James Wilder's blocking only arrived the day
Starting point is 00:12:59 before yesterday. Part of the reason Pittman admits is he's pressing. He says, I just have to relax and it'll come. I've got to be more
Starting point is 00:13:08 patient. Cut back a little move if the lane is there. In the meantime, he says, he understands the fans want more. He says, when you come in
Starting point is 00:13:17 to be the starting running back, there's pressure. The public demands that you perform. I hear them. Someone will say, Pittman,
Starting point is 00:13:24 uh, what does that say? Oh, it's a dash. Pitman is shit. Or Pitman ain't this. Pittman ain't that. I understand, but I don't think they've seen the real Michael Pittman yet. The only people here who know what I can do are the coaches and me. I believe in my ability. I believe I'm a good player. It'll come. I just need a breakout game. All right. All right. So they say, for a man who sees what you see and hears what you hear, this is the difference. Despite all the evidence, Pittman believes what you do not. He believes it's still going to happen.
Starting point is 00:13:57 Pittman says We have to be able to run the ball If we don't have a running game Everyone's going to sit back on the pass We have to believe we can get the job done And if your quarterback's Brad Johnson You don't really want that So they said for the bucks
Starting point is 00:14:11 Now would be good Going into their final seven games A decent running game seems imperative He doesn't score his first touchdown As a Buccaneer till December 15th of the season So that's like week 14 It's almost over. 13, that's crazy.
Starting point is 00:14:28 Yeah. Yeah. So he finally got it. The 14th game of the season on a four-yard run. The first fucking touchdown. Four-yard run, so it's like almost a gimmy.
Starting point is 00:14:40 His 173rd carry of the season. Almost 200 carries in. And 55 receptions. So 228 catches without a score. Touches, not catches. Yeah. And then he broke through here. 2320 victory over the Lions.
Starting point is 00:14:59 He said it felt great. That's something I really needed. I guess so. Well, this season anyway, he starts 15 out of 16 games. Not too shabby. He has 718 yards, which is a little bit shabby, I would say,
Starting point is 00:15:17 at 3.5 yards per carry, just like last year. So not terrific, really. And what does he have? One touchdown. He never gets a... another one. Right. Now, they do go to the Super Bowl that year and win it, which we talked about before we ended up last week. And in the playoffs, it looks like, this year, he had 54 attempts.
Starting point is 00:15:41 He averaged 3.4 yards per carry in the playoffs. So really turned it up. He got worse. Once it mattered. Yeah. No shit. January 26, 2003, an article in the Tampa Bay Times talks about how he's torn about the Iraq war. Oh, he has opinions. He's got opinions. Well, his dad served 27 years in the Navy and served in the last Gulf War and in Vietnam. So they asked him about it, and he goes, I mean, I don't know. He said, I really don't want the troops to go over there and fight.
Starting point is 00:16:17 But at the same time, that's their job to put their life on the line for us. Yeah. Yeah, when they're not doing that, we're paying for them to eat like fucking monsters. So, yeah, when it's time to go, you got to go, guys. We've been paying for a lot of fucking food here, so get going. January 2nd, 2003, after winning the Super Bowl, there's an article that says the unsung hero of the Super Bowl was Tampa Bay running back. Michael Pittman, who had 29 carries for 124 yards to help the buccaneers control the clock.
Starting point is 00:16:48 They blew them out. I mean, it really didn't matter at that point. Entering the Super Bowl, Pittman had only two. 200-yard rushing games in his 74-game career. Wow. Why do we keep thinking he's going to be a giant star again? He's had two. He's had two in his whole career.
Starting point is 00:17:07 That's insane. The 124 yards were second only to his 133 yards he hadn't his first pro start with Arizona. That's the other thing. That was his best game was his first start. Wow. It's gone downhill since then. His outstanding effort could cool any interest the Bucks may have an all-time rush Emmett Smith if his career with Dallas is over.
Starting point is 00:17:27 Now, we know Emmett ended up going to the Cardinals, so that didn't pan out. Okay, June, he can't, it can't get any better. I'm going to call this Grace 2. We've never done that before. He had one grace, and then this is another grace, I'm going to say here. I mean, Super Bowl hero finally fulfilled his whatever, only for one game, but he did it. And then June 1st, 2003, here's an Arizona. a Republic article, ex-cardinal arrested on assault charges in Owatuki.
Starting point is 00:17:59 Oh, he came back to beat somebody up. Oh, God damn it. Yeah, it's not hot enough in Tampa for you. Right. Like, where can I go where it's hotter? Hmm, let me think. Did he beat up a woman again? He said he was hauled off to jail Saturday after he rammed his Hummer into his wife's
Starting point is 00:18:17 Mercedes. Oh, boy. He played domestic bumper cars. You cannot. What the fuck are you? doing. Number one, you could kill somebody like that, number one. Oh, for sure.
Starting point is 00:18:29 That's crazy. And what the fuck are you doing in public fighting? What is wrong with you? Imagine what he does behind closed doors if he hits her with a car in fucking broad daylight. Yeah, why are you having such a knockdown, drag out fight that you got in opposite vehicles and played chicken together? This is in their upscale, Owatuki foothills community. So you know where that is. That's nice stuff.
Starting point is 00:18:51 They were arguing over their son. So that's nice. You want the kid to be involved in this too. Perfect. Was he in the car? Well, let's see. Wow. Phoenix police said Pittman, oh my God, was charged with six felony counts from this.
Starting point is 00:19:06 That's a lot. Felonies, not misdemeanors. The lieutenant here said that Pittman ram the car carrying his wife, Melissa, and their son and his baby sister. Oh, my God. I don't think his kid, but there's two small children in the fucking. fucking car, including his own son, and he rams it with his car. Imagine hitting a car that your children were in with your car. And somebody else's kid. Yeah, but fuck that kid. Who cares about that? In Pittman's mind, he'd run that kid over with a car probably. He doesn't
Starting point is 00:19:38 give a shit about that kid. He tried, yeah. But his own kid is in the car. That's fucking crazy, man. Wow. Also, the babysitter was also there. So put her in the mix of it. A car full of people. Christina Hegeland, and they tried to leave the gated community 4 p.m. 4 p.m. This isn't 2 in the morning. Broad daylight. People trying to leave with their children. It's a rush hour.
Starting point is 00:20:05 4 o'clock in the afternoon. The community of Whistling Rock. No one was hurt in the crash. The cop said the couple argued over whether Pittman could take the two-year-old son for spring training. It's not called spring training, but in Arizona they're so obsessed with spring training. training camp is what they're going for there. Football has training camp because it's in the summer, not the fucking spring. Nice reporting.
Starting point is 00:20:29 Who is this Santa Scarborough? You're a moron. That's who wrote this. What month did this happen? June. Spring training. Spring training, which has been over for two months. Good job.
Starting point is 00:20:42 This person does not follow sports. Obviously not a golfer. No, definitely not. Definitely should have went over this with a sports writer first to just make sure they had everything correct because they didn't here. Quote, his wife was adamant that he should not take their son with him. He told her he paid for
Starting point is 00:21:00 everything and told her to leave. Listen, I pay for everything. I'm taking the kid. She says, hey, let's go back to the house and talk about it. When she starts the car to move, he rams the car. Wow. What a... He's on probation for domestic violence.
Starting point is 00:21:16 He's doing domestic violence. Involving his wife. This is his... Jesus. What the fuck? you doing, man. So he's booked in three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of reckless endangerment. Yeah. This is bad, man. Facing felony charges this article.
Starting point is 00:21:33 And police say that he, quote, lost his mind when he did this. Yeah. Exactly. I would say so. He lost his fucking mind. He was released from Madison Street jail on his own recognizance. And they will determine what or weather charges will be filed. No one was hurt in the crash.
Starting point is 00:21:51 and but still Jesus Christ Melissa said Michael just got angry because he got confronted he got angry because he got caught the reasons they were fighting
Starting point is 00:22:01 was because she confronted him about having an extramarital affair Oh my God so God forbid she noticed the stank on his hangdown and bring it up
Starting point is 00:22:12 to him obviously you know don't bring that up to me no I pay for everything What does that mean? Let it ride Let her ride, dude. This incident occurred.
Starting point is 00:22:24 Oh, no, that kid was, oh, my God. That wasn't some other person's kid. That was his baby. And guess what? She's 20 days old, I think. No. That is a brand new baby. No, that kid wasn't in the car, was it?
Starting point is 00:22:36 Hold on. When I went over this, I don't remember. And his baby sister is what you said. I thought carrying their son, baby sitter, their son, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah, what the fuck is going on? Babysitter or baby sister? Baby sitter. There it is.
Starting point is 00:22:52 Babysitter. I read it as baby sister. Yeah. And I'm like, yeah, that's what it is. Okay. I could see that happening, right? When you said babysitter, I was like, uh-oh. I was like, baby sitter too.
Starting point is 00:23:04 As soon as I went back, I was like, yep, that's babysitter. Yeah. But this happened, by the way, 20 days after she just gave birth to their second child. So he was cheating on her while she was basically giving birth. a new mother and then got mad at her and rams into a woman who's still recovering from giving birth to your child and your son by the way uh wow the infant was with melissa's mother during the accident or incident i should say um so yeah he's already on probation and uh the phoenix police lieutenant said quote he told her to get the hell out of the house so she got in her car and goes
Starting point is 00:23:45 down the road and he blocks the gate with his vehicle get out no now go back that's what he's Trying to do. Wow. They have a confrontation and decide to go back to the house. But when she moves her car, he thinks she's going to take off. So he dents the car on the passenger side and pushes it to the curb and blows a tire out on her car. He fucking... He hit her so hard it blew up the tire.
Starting point is 00:24:08 Yeah. He did a pit maneuver on her, basically. Into the fucking curb and blew out her tie. Oh my God. Quote, I give him credit. He didn't give us any trouble. But the guy apparently lost his mind. Whatever happened happened.
Starting point is 00:24:21 Why is he giving him credit? Because he then didn't fight with police also. Because he then didn't resist arrest and try to throw you guys around and make you shoot him. Is that what you're talking about? Wow. Jesus Christ. So as we know, this has happened before. They go over his 2001, domestic violence with Melissa where he pleaded guilty to criminal trespassing and damage.
Starting point is 00:24:43 1997, domestic violence assault against his girlfriend, that Leslie, or Lesica, Lesica. Lisha, remember? We couldn't figure out how to say her name. Zaza Boy where he held her by the neck allegedly and slammed her face into the seat of the car
Starting point is 00:25:00 while the cop was watching. That one. This is a lot. The Buck's general manager and coach John Gruden conveniently couldn't be reached for comment today. Hey, let's see all of a sudden.
Starting point is 00:25:13 Let's talk about that. I'm doing a lot of paperwork here. I don't have time for that. I'm trying to figure out this new play. Spider banana. And the Bucks director of communications who has to answer the phone. Yeah, that's his job. The guy who communicates is his old title.
Starting point is 00:25:30 He says, it's not appropriate to comment until after we have further information. In other words, we'll find out what John Gruden has decided how bad this is. And then whatever he says, we'll all say the same thing. Wow, what a fucking idiot. Pittman's arrest came as he appeared to be enjoying an upswing in his life. Yeah. Yeah, I would say. What a fucking moron. So I guess on Thursday evening at his home while holding his daughter and playing with his son, Pittman talked to a reporter about how he had learned for mistakes.
Starting point is 00:26:01 This is three days before, two days before he did this. Two days later, though, Melissa said he reacted angrily when questioned about an affair and steered. He's driving an H-2, a Hummer, H-2. A big one, yeah. Into her Mercedes. Melissa said the babysitter was scared. We were all scared. when you have a Hummer coming toward you and you're in a car, it's a scary situation.
Starting point is 00:26:22 Ficking know what was going to happen. Yeah. He's going to blow your windows out. Melissa denied reports that they argued about whether Pittman should take the young boy to Florida, which for training camp, which begins July 19th. She said, we've never fought over our children. This had nothing to do with the kids. He put them in danger Saturday, but Michael's a good father.
Starting point is 00:26:43 I just don't think rationally, I don't think he thinks rationally when he gets angry. That's not a good father. That's a terrible father. Yeah, but that also screams of already has CTE. Already has CTE. And also, how bigger is muscles? We think that's natural? What are you fucking joking, probably?
Starting point is 00:27:02 That's a great point, yeah. There's that. Love to allege it. And for her, fucking codependent much? For sure, Zies, yeah. Protect your kid. I get, you know, at this point now, he's literally ramming a car into your children. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:27:16 Get the, you have the money and you could tell, the press. There's a lot you can do to get out of there. I don't mean to put it all on her, but for Christ's sake. This is your kids involved now, and he's a fucking psychopath. He can't be trusted to do the right thing here. And you're, I mean, I imagine what her father was like, probably similar. I'm going to guess if I had to take a wild stab at it. Or whether they were any particular way, perhaps just a financial situation that she doesn't want to be in ever again. No, I understand that. And she doesn't have to be. She's got an NFL player's two kids. That's what I mean.
Starting point is 00:27:50 Yeah. None of this, at this point, it's like, you could tell the press right now, I got to get out of here. This guy scares me. Yeah. I mean, that's going to help. I mean, then who knows what he's going to do? But I don't know. I think once your kids involved, it's not about just you anymore.
Starting point is 00:28:05 So you can't make excuses for him and call him a good father when he just rammed in here. You can't say good father when he has issues with rash and quick decisions. Yeah, one of which is almost could have killed your kid or injured them. or done anything like that. Like I said, not putting this on her, but also he's not protecting the kid. Somebody's got to.
Starting point is 00:28:25 You have some responsibility. She seems like the saner one. So I'm asking her to do it here at this point. So Pittman is the third Bucks player arrested this off season. Good job, Bucks. You know, was Warren Sapp, one of them too? It was. Cornerback Dwight Smith was arrested by Clearwater Police
Starting point is 00:28:43 and accused of pointing a gun in another motorist during a road rage incident. Oh, my gosh. God. None of these guys should be driving. He was charged with aggravated assault with a firearm. Ten days later, tackle Kenyatta Walker was arrested in charge with disorderly conduct after a skirmish with bouncers at an Ebor City nightclub. Nice. You're a Super Bowl champion. You're hanging out places where roosters are running beneath your feet. This is awful. You cannot be an Ebor if you are a Super Bowl winning football player.
Starting point is 00:29:17 entering that place puts everything right on you. Whatever happens to you is your fucking fault because you know what goes on in Ebor City. You know what's happening. Nothing good. Yeah, we know this because the Tampa Improb is in Ebor City, and there's a reason why we never go there anymore. It pukes you out into that mess. Yep, fuck that.
Starting point is 00:29:39 So they said a suspension or release of Pittman could have a profound impact on the Buck's chance of repeating as world champions. Pittman led Tampa Bay in rushing with 718 yards. They could have got anybody to run for 718 yards. Literally, pick any running back off a heap, he'll run for 3.5 a carry. Any of them. Do most running backs get around 700 that are the number one, the RB1? That's the point.
Starting point is 00:30:05 That's low for that. That's what I mean. Yeah, totally. RB1 will definitely run 700 yards. He's not getting all the carries like a lot of teams do, because they were giving the ball to Allstad a lot too. Alstott was a force. For that, you got to look more at his yards per
Starting point is 00:30:20 than his total yards because 3-4 just doesn't cut in it. Or 3-5. That's just not... You could literally get any third string back from any team and he'll run for 3.5 a carry. That's just nothing special. They said, because of Pittman's Super Bowl performance, the Bucks did not address
Starting point is 00:30:37 the running back position in the draft or free agency. They were like, oh, all locked up. Oh, fuck. Wow. Third-year pro Aaron Stecker, who had 28 rushing attempts last season for 174 yards and second year pro Travis Stevens who didn't have a single rushing attempt as a rookie are his backups. Pitman was en route to his home in Tampa on Sunday, according to his wife. She said, I'm not scared, but I have to look out for my children. Good. You should look out for your children. That's probably for the best.
Starting point is 00:31:05 June 3rd, the next day, Pittman returns to Bucks for now. Three days later, charged on six felony, arrested for six felon. and he counts. He's on the practice field doing organized team activities, no problem. People wonder why they... Forgiven? Yeah. People wonder why the league reacted so harshly to Ray Rice because for years this is how they reacted. This is the approach. They did nothing about this shit.
Starting point is 00:31:32 Wow. They, they, so they're, yeah, they're waiting for something. The buck's running back awaits the formal charges. I guess they're waiting for charges to be filed, which is even fucking stupider, I suppose. Anyway, Pittman says, quote, I would like to sincerely apologize for any embarrassment that has been placed on my family, my coaches, my teammates, and our fans. He said, I realize these circumstances have placed some unnecessary and negative attention on the Buccaneers organization. I certainly look forward to being able to tell my side of the story. Great. Got a microphone right here, Chief. What exactly could justify that?
Starting point is 00:32:11 He said that to a reporter. I can't wait until I can tell my side. Well, it can go out everywhere if you just tell it now. Unless a swarm of bees came out of your fucking air conditioning vents and you gunned it on accident. What could possibly be your... Do you have a Tommy Boy situation? Right. Like what?
Starting point is 00:32:35 But actually happened. Yeah. Or did the deer come to life in the back seat? What went on? I'm not sure. So anyway, the NFL has set guidelines for players who violate the league's personnel conduct policy. If Pittman is convicted, it would be his second criminal violation during his six-year career. He would be subject to suspension without pay or banishment from the league for a period of time,
Starting point is 00:33:01 which would be determined by the commissioner. Following his two domestic violence arrests before, pleading guilty to misdemeanor counts of trespass, criminal trespass and criminal damage after arguments, with his wife Melissa. As part of his sentence, he spent two days in jail and was suspended for one game by the NFL. He was also arrested in 97 that they talk about there. So they said he's due approximately $800,000 in base salary this season. That escalates to 1.5 next year, 1.75 in 2005 and 2 million in 2006.
Starting point is 00:33:34 They say the ranks of the available running backs are thin, but some possibilities include San Francisco's Garrison Hurst, Arizona's Thomas Jones former draft pick Cardinal running backs and Giants Ron Dane
Starting point is 00:33:49 all three are expected to be released by their teams yeah Ron Dane was a bust he was a fucking bust for the Giants Thomas was too yeah he was too
Starting point is 00:33:58 but Ron Dane was a goddamn Heisman trophy winner and all that shit Yeah he went to Wisconsin I think he was fucking turned out to be garbage How long was he in the league for? A while
Starting point is 00:34:07 He's a big guy He's a huge motherfucker I mean he said so you looked at him you're like how can you not just push through there look at you you're huge Jesus they said if the bucks keep Pittman and he suspended they could fill the running
Starting point is 00:34:20 back position with the committee approach they used last season so they could do that here John Gruden said I spoke with Michael Pitman that's how he would say it yeah Michael Pittman he understands and it's certainly a serious matter
Starting point is 00:34:38 he understands that this is a serious matter. But until the legal system runs its course, I cannot get into further specifics at this time. See that buck? I'm passing it. See it? Go over that way.
Starting point is 00:34:50 Not in my hands. Specifics, man. And then he did the casino thing where he said, you know, like a dealer who's done with the table. We're pushing on the next week, man. Pitman's worries extend past the playing field. Yeah. They have not filed formal charges yet
Starting point is 00:35:06 because they haven't received the case from the Phoenix Police Department, which still has to finish their investigation. Once that all happens, charges are expected to be filed. Now, that is the bad news. The good news is, let me tell you something. Tell me the sales, Jimmy. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:35:23 Down at TNT Adult Video, Video, Video, Arcade, Mags, Videos, DVDs, and Novelties. Mags, too? We got jerk mags down here, too, man. We got it all, spank mags. Your mom threw away your best. PORNO mag. Yep. There, and it's down here.
Starting point is 00:35:44 They have them now. They're open from 8 a.m. to 2 a.m. during the week. But on the weekends, 8 a.m. to 4 a.m. Oh, boy. I need to whack it at 3 in the morning. I'm going to go somewhere to get something. It's on 1202 East Madison Avenue downtown.
Starting point is 00:36:02 This isn't Phoenix, is it? I hope not. 12.02 East Madison? That might be New York City. I think this might be Tampa. It's Tampa. Tampa Tribune. And it's always a Madison.
Starting point is 00:36:14 Sounds sleazy. It sounds right about Tampa. Yeah. Any of those president streets, there's always those. Wherever the dead presidents are, that's the oldest streets in town. Yeah. So they named them after first. Then there's also extreme adult X-stream adult book and video.
Starting point is 00:36:31 They have toys, peep shows, novelties, video and DVD rentals, and detox. from what? What's the best way to detox? Get it all out in your semen. That's the way. What do you want to bet it's those like piss things, right? The clean pee things? Probably.
Starting point is 00:36:51 Maybe. Yeah, like for drug testing. Yeah. Detox just sounds funny. And also the adult world megacenter. These are all attached to these ads. It says couples welcome. Why wouldn't they be?
Starting point is 00:37:04 They're welcome everywhere. Mags, videos, DVDs. DVD apostrophe-esque because they're morons also. Because they own them. Novelties. Free membership. Open 24-7.
Starting point is 00:37:18 24-7. 24-7. Chris, do you come there? They have peep shows or as they call it, peeps, $8 all day. Eight bucks. For peeps.
Starting point is 00:37:30 And then peeps. How long is a peep? Is that a minute? Peeps and theater $12 all day. Oh. I guess they're going to perform for you. too.
Starting point is 00:37:40 June 4th, 2003, this is all a very short span of time this has been going on. Pitman swears he did not ram wife's car. That's his side of the story. His side of the story didn't happen. Oh boy. He tells Phoenix Police and Buck's coach
Starting point is 00:37:56 John Gruden, his wife caused the accident. Oh my God. She hit me. Oh, my, dude. That is next level. I was just, I had my arm out and I had my fist. clenched as I was scratching and she just ran right into it, man. What a fucking unbelievable. Okay, Pittman gave, he's given police and John Gruden a different account of the incident
Starting point is 00:38:20 than the version that led to his arrest. In a sworn statement given to police, he said he did not deliberately ram his hummer into his Mercedes-Benz driven by his wife, Melissa, carrying their two-year-old son and babysitter and baby sister. Pitman said Melissa was responsible for the accident. when the car was driving while stuck in his was driving stuck in his vehicle, which he claims was not moving at the time. Pittman's version doesn't match with the evidence at the scene, according to police and several eyewitness reports is the problem. Everyone else saw a different thing.
Starting point is 00:38:56 Yeah. And there's evidence. And there's evidence. And guess what? Police are really good at that accident reconstruction shit. They're real good at that by now. So that's interesting. The lieutenant who's investigating and in charge of this case said that was the story he gave us,
Starting point is 00:39:12 but it's just not supported in any way by the evidence. Her vehicle was struck on the passenger side and pushed hard enough to blow out the front tire. Right. Period. That's a great point. If it's pinned against a curb, then she didn't hit you. That's the, how would she do that exactly? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:30 She ran over the curb in an effort to hit you? Yeah. Apparently, she didn't give a fuck. She said, hold the kid down quick. I'm going to bash his Hummer with my car. She's more badass than I thought. Oh, she's a gangster, man. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:44 She's badass, yeah. Pitman told a similar story to Gruden on Monday. And Gruden said, quote, I'm not going to answer for him, but he's dead set in his mind that he didn't do anything wrong. Wow. Pitman's claim of innocence, in part, is what prompted the Bucks Gruden to allow him to participate in the first three-team workouts. Well, I mean, he said he didn't do it. That's his excuse for this. Fuck you, John Gruden.
Starting point is 00:40:07 God, you're a douche. The Super Bowl... What a dickhead. Super Bowl standout left practice without commenting, but he may be able to spend many more days this offseason in Tampa, or may not be able to spend many more days because they go how it violates his probation and everything else. And he could be sentenced to 10 months in jail just for violating his probation.
Starting point is 00:40:30 Yeah. So that's a problem. Tuesday, Gruden defended the decision to allow Pittman to remain with the team. quote, we've talked to Mike Pittman. We've heard his side of the story. I don't know his wife's side of the story. I don't know. None of us were there.
Starting point is 00:40:45 So we're going to let the legal system get all the information, get all the facts, and we'll move accordingly once the process is over. Spoken like a true, dickless fucking pussy. Yeah. What a pussy. You have the full police report. You're fucking John Gruden. You could call that lieutenant up and say, what the fuck happened out there? Tell me.
Starting point is 00:41:07 Tell me what the eyewitness report said. Wouldn't you want to investigate that before you put that dick face on the fucking field? Absolutely. If I'm the coach, I'll get to the bottom of this shit. 100%. Or the general manager, whoever the fuck is. I think he was both at that point, wasn't he? Didn't he come from the Raiders and get the whole enchilada and they give him a whole fucking?
Starting point is 00:41:28 I thought he was in charge of one of those guys who was just running everything. Anything's possible, man. He said, I'm concerned about this. Jiminy Christmas, I'm a human being. That's what John Gruden said. That's what he talks. You fucking tiny. Jiminy Christmas, man.
Starting point is 00:41:45 Jiminy Christmas, God damn it, I don't like him. Jiminy Christmas, man, this is crazy. I'm a human being. I've got a family and we're all concerned. We're concerned about Mike Pittman. Oh, boy. We want the facts to be presented and the people that are doing this case will, I'm sure, do an outstanding job and do the right thing. At the same time, I've got to coach a football team, and we've got to remain zoomed in on what we need to do as an organization to win football games.
Starting point is 00:42:13 Right. Did you hear that? It's all. Wow, that was the NFL in a fucking nutshell. I care about this. I mean, at the same time, trying to make money and win games. So, I mean, I don't care about it that much. But I need to tell you I care about it a lot.
Starting point is 00:42:27 Got to be zoomed in, man. Got to be zoomed in. The Bucks added insurance at running back by signing 11-year veteran and Terry Kirby. I remember him from the dolphins and shit? Terry Kirby. Yeah, he was good.
Starting point is 00:42:38 Decent guy. Was he a number of 43, I want to say? He had like a weird number for a small running back. I saw 11 in my head, but... No, definitely not. Running backs weren't allowed
Starting point is 00:42:45 to wear 11 back then. No. I thought he wore 43 for some reason. That just sticks. Usually 40s or 30s. 20s. 20s. 20s.
Starting point is 00:42:52 It was like 20 to 40s. Fullbacks usually have the bigger numbers of the 40s sometimes, but sometimes. All start was 48? He's 408. He's 40, yeah, 48,
Starting point is 00:43:00 something like that. Yeah. So they signed Terry Kirby. Kirby played with the Raiders under Gruden for a couple of years, so that's why they got him. Several bucks expressed disappointment over Pittman's arrest, but said they support him. Receiver Keenan McArdle said, we feel bad Michael has some legal problems. That's the way you want to say that sentence? Legal problems.
Starting point is 00:43:23 We feel bad Michael has some legal problems. That's the way you want to phrase that, huh? But as a team, we have to support him. We have to be his support group and help him through this. We don't have any choice. We don't have to. You really don't, though. You can really go, I don't know, none of my business.
Starting point is 00:43:40 Sounds pretty bad, though. That's what I would have said. That doesn't sound real good. None of my business, but I'm glad I'm not him right now. I'd rather not be him. Oh, my God. We have to support him. We have to be his support group and help him through this.
Starting point is 00:43:56 Got to. As friends, sure. But not. He doesn't have to be as a teammate. I know it's hard right now, but he has to take him. it one day at a time and let things pass. He realizes he made a mistake. So let's get back on the right foot.
Starting point is 00:44:09 No, he doesn't. In the beginning of the article, he said he didn't do it. He didn't do anything wrong. On the right foot? Who gives the shit? He said he realizes he made a mistake. No, he doesn't. That's the whole fucking point here. Gruden said the bucks will take swift actions if determined he's guilty, which of course
Starting point is 00:44:25 could take years to do. That's the thing, though. Right. In court, that could take years to come to trial. Red tape could be, yeah, you could drag this on forever. Especially if you're an NFL player with a good lawyer. You can get delays and delays and delays. Gruden said, I don't like this at all.
Starting point is 00:44:43 I'll be frank. I don't like seeing our players' pictures in the newspaper, regardless of what the accusations are. I don't like this. I'm concerned about it. Obviously, for a lot of reasons, not just for winning and losing, but for general well-being of our football players. Once you get all the facts, it's your responsibility as a leader,
Starting point is 00:45:01 as a head coach, as a human being to help these guys and do what's appropriate for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. That's what Rich McKay, that's the owner, and I will do. Didn't say anything about
Starting point is 00:45:12 some scared lady with her two-year-old getting bashed into by a giant man and a hummer, for fuck's sake. That's... What about that? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:45:21 If you're concerned about him, you should be concerned about his children, too, and one of them is... Yeah. So anyway, June 5th, 2003, the next day, Pittman charged with two felony assault.
Starting point is 00:45:31 Two counts of aggravated assault against his wife and babysitter. Wow. If convicted, he could be sentenced to a mandatory minimum of five to 15 years for each count, a class three felony. But Pittman could land behind bars for violating his probation. After reviewing a police report in Tempe, a city prosecutor said that Wednesday he plans to ask municipal court judge to revoke the probation that he's serving for two misdemeanor convictions. of domestic violence from 2001. If his three-year probation is revoked, he could spend up to six months in prison
Starting point is 00:46:08 awaiting a trial on felony charges. This guy, the prosecutor, said, we're reviewing the police report, but undoubtedly we will file for a petition to revoke his probation. Man, they said he used his vehicle as a deadly weapon or dangerous instrument in intentionally, knowingly,
Starting point is 00:46:25 or recklessly causing physical injury to his wife and an 18-year-old baby, He said, a teenage fucking girl and a baby you hit with a car, even if you don't care about your wife. You hit a teenage girl and a baby. Yeah, this is crazy. Pittman attended his second workout Wednesday and left one buck place without comment. But in a sworn statement, he said Melissa was responsible for the accident when she was driving. She struck his vehicle, which was stationary at the time, he says.
Starting point is 00:46:58 Wow. Yeah. That is wild. The Bucks have no comment about this again, even though he's been charged and everything else, and he will be subjected to mandatory management counseling, apparently. The Bucks say they will wait until the legal system runs its course. That's all they keep saying. That's what teams used to do. That's why Ray Rice was immediately gone and gone forever because teams used to do this after people did crazy shit.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Is it too far? maybe, but this was too far that way. So there's got to be, I don't know. If Pittman is jailed, they'll be left with few options. Who cares about the fucking running backs for the goddamn fucking buccaneers at this point. So, wow. June 7, 2003, Players' wife said abuse came often. Now we get into the real shit.
Starting point is 00:47:52 Yeah. That's not in a vacuum. No. It's what I said. Imagine 4 o'clock in the after. By the gate of your nice gated community. That's crazy. There's people at the mailboxes.
Starting point is 00:48:06 And if you're doing that shit, like, imagine what goes on at 2 a.m. When all the lights are off and everybody's sleeping. Holy shit. A police report says Melissa Pittman said there were 30 to 40 times she didn't report violence by Michael Pittman. Of course. Yes. This shit is like a tooth.
Starting point is 00:48:26 Whatever you see is it's more than that is beneath the gum. This is fucking gross, man. It's like an iceberg. She told investigator she was subjected to 30 to 40 incidents of domestic violence that were not reported. If verified, the accusations would paint a picture of repeated domestic problems well before Pittman's arrest in Phoenix that led to two charges of aggravated battery. Wow. And the police reports obtained Friday by the St. Petersburg Times, arresting on, officer Troy Hill wrote that Melissa Pittman said there were 30 to 40 times prior to this that
Starting point is 00:49:01 she never reported. Melissa Pittman's mother, Kathy Mumford, was visiting the family last week and according to the reports told police she had been present during several domestic violence situations between Michael and Melissa in the past. Unbelievable. Hill allegedly beat his wife in front of her mother. Think about that. That's her mother.
Starting point is 00:49:24 That's the grandmother of your children. Yeah. Yeah. And you're going to do that even in front of her. So imagine how bad it is not in front of her. Right. That's sick, if that's real. That's insane.
Starting point is 00:49:36 Gross. Yeah. That's fucking insane. And again, you can tell Dad's not around because if he was, I would assume Michael Pittman would be, have a shotgun blast in his chest. They'd probably be in a little bit of trouble. Yeah. Beat either of our daughters in front of us and you're going to die, period. Oh, boy.
Starting point is 00:49:53 It's over. I might have something to say about it. We're going to have a chat. So, yeah, that's the first thing I tell all my daughters. She's only a few boyfriends. First thing is, you know, I could absolutely have you chopped into a thousand pieces and never get caught. So don't fuck with me or my kid, please. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:50:15 Nice to meet you. I mean, you're welcome to the family. Yeah. I will murder you and no one will fucking know about it. Trust me. I make a murder pod. I know how to get away with it. I make a murder pod and I have a huge Italian family.
Starting point is 00:50:29 Do I need to say anything else about what could fucking happen? Do you need any more information about how much trouble you're in? Jimmy's got a murder pod. He's got a house full of guns. I think we could figure out what one plus one is on this one. Yeah. So. I got vehicles that get out in the desert.
Starting point is 00:50:45 Really? Yeah. Absolutely. So they said that this, she told police, she had been present during several of these situations, and according to the reports, the babysitter related that she was afraid of Michael and his family because she had seen too much.
Starting point is 00:51:03 Holy shit. Melissa Pittman's father, Ken Mumford, said in an interview that he was aware of a number of domestic altercations between the couple but couldn't say the extent. Well, how come you didn't fucking murder him then? Right. What are you doing?
Starting point is 00:51:18 Or do something. I have to kill him, but I mean, there should have been a report of, you know, some kerfuffle between you two. That's the police report that should happen. I know there were a few instances, but I don't know if there were that many, he said. But we love Michael.
Starting point is 00:51:33 We're Christian people. We can forgive people as long as they can change. He makes a lot of money, is what he just said. Yeah, that's the old dad thing. I mean, he does provide a good living for you, right? Like that matters. Right. After interviewing Melissa and Michael and several witnesses,
Starting point is 00:51:49 that's when he was arrested. He returned to Phoenix Thursday after three days of workouts, and they're trying to get his bail revoked. Now, Ed Brennan, a Tampa lawyer recently retained by Michael Pittman, or Melissa Pittman, said neither he nor his client would have any comment on previous accusations of domestic abuse. The lawyer said she believes this to be a very private matter to be settled privately, and we're not going to comment on those particular statements, you know, the one she gave to police in a fucking report. Pittman, of course, unavailable for comment. He's not going to say shit here. Wow. So apparently, one of the things that how this started was Michael stated that the conflict, this is from the report, is over the fact that Melissa opened up Michael's cell phone bill and observed phone numbers on the bill that were not known.
Starting point is 00:52:44 Hey, Michael should have figured out burner phones. The wire was on the air at that point. It could have been told. Yeah. Yeah. Why are you using? What are you doing? Because he's cocky.
Starting point is 00:52:55 That's why. Melissa called the numbers and found out they were girls. She didn't know. She fucking called them. Yeah. She went old school. Went right to the shit. Police said Melissa attempted to leave the house and that's when this all happened because
Starting point is 00:53:07 she was leaving because she was pissed. According to papers, Melissa said that Pittman told her to get the fuck out of the car and called her a quote, white piece of shit bitch. It was just. Oh, my God. Nice work. Wow. Great.
Starting point is 00:53:25 Well done, Mike. Jesus Christ, you asshole. White piece of shit, bitch. In front of your child. Very nice. Nice. That's great. Melissa Pittman returned to the house and again was confronted by Pittman, who told
Starting point is 00:53:40 her to get out and get your family the fuck out of my house. I guess her family's there too. Yeah. Higlin said that, that's the babysitter, said that Pittman drove his Hummer into the Mercedes to prevent his wife from leaving. Quote, she thought it was intentional, an intentional act
Starting point is 00:53:55 because Michael had been threatening to hit them with the car and then he did it. So, you know. He said I'm going to do it and then he did it. It seems on purpose at that point. Yeah. She told the police that while she was not concerned
Starting point is 00:54:08 about her safety at the time, she was concerned about Micah, the small child, that Michael would hurt someone also. Yeah. The report said that Pittman took his son and a car seat out of the Mercedes and put them in the Hummer before continuing to argue with his wife.
Starting point is 00:54:25 Hegeland's police said the babysitter removed the child from Pittman's Hummer, took him into the house, talk with Kathy Mumford, and called the police. That's the, Melissa's mother. Vicki Pearson, a close friend of Melissa Pittman and her mother were in the house. She said she walked outside and stayed at Melissa's side during the argument because she did not want Michael to attack Melissa. Okay. I figured that's a possibility because it's him. Friday, Pearson said in an interview, she never felt as if she was in danger,
Starting point is 00:54:55 but she had some issues of anger, or he had some issues of anger he needs to deal with. He has a lot of anger, and it's certainly not because of her. It's in his heart. Yeah. Pittman said in the report that he parked the Hummer at a 45-degree angle in front of the Mercedes,
Starting point is 00:55:10 and his wife inflicted the damage to her own car when she tried to exit to the gate by squeezing through. When this happened, tire hit the left curb and her right front tire and fender wheel hit my front tire. And that's why I have damage to my front wheel. She pinched herself. Yeah, she did it all. Melissa's attorney said the Bucks responded Friday to a request for a meeting with his client and hopes to finalize details of that meeting. So the Bucks want to talk to Melissa now. Right. Yeah. When all this shit's coming out. Brennan, who's a divorce lawyer, would not confirm what legal avenues Melissa will follow.
Starting point is 00:55:48 Oh. The executive director of the St. Petersburg Community Action St. Petersburg Community Action St. Abuse Organization said that spouses frequently stay long-term in abusive relationships. Quote, it's classic, common behavior for the battered wife to hang on. It's hard for people to imagine and particularly hard for men to understand. It is. Women invest in our relationships for richer or poor, for better or worse. A lot of times, we can excuse behavior based on stress.
Starting point is 00:56:16 We learn in any relationship to forget. and we somehow feel responsible. Oh. Yeah. Maybe if you add Christianity in that too, saying we got to forgive everybody even when they, you know, fuck you in the ass. I don't know. Sometimes you, sometimes you have to pay a penance for not taking care of your spouse. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:35 Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, totally. Burn the meat love. That's, yeah, exactly. That's right in the Bible, I think. No, this is, it's crazy shit, dude. And, yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:45 It's horrible. And the guys put pressure on them saying, you. you're going to blow everything and I'm not going to make this money and it's going to hurt our kids. And then they go, oh, well, I want to protect my kids. So I guess I'll just stay. And that's... I got to be a mother. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:56:59 So they said historically, abuse is more about control and different victims will be controlled by a moving line of intimidation. She said, the other thing people have to understand is that abusers aren't abusive all the time. In between, there's good times and you learn to forgive and forget and abusers can be very charming. Yes. Generally, they are. otherwise nobody would be around them. There would be no second chances if they weren't charming. They'd be sitting on an island by themselves.
Starting point is 00:57:24 How else are they going to get women to beat? Yeah, you got to get women to beat. They don't charm them. Get some charm. And then if you beat them, how are you going to charm them back? Right. You can't threaten them into coming back. You got to charm them then.
Starting point is 00:57:36 Wow. June 9th, 2003, the Bradenton Herald. No reason for Pittman to be on the field, is what it says. Better late than never. How about better late than before somebody gets killed. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers dropped the ball
Starting point is 00:57:51 and disappointed fans last week after Michael Pittman's most recent arrest for domestic violence. Definitely disappointed us. I don't know about the fans, but we're disappointed. The running back was allowed
Starting point is 00:58:01 to practice with the teams as the credo, Boys Will Be Boys, was enough to cover his latest violent outburst toward his wife. Talk about letting the system run its course
Starting point is 00:58:10 and being concerned amounted to nothing more than so much indifference as Pittman took handoffs with his 20-inch biceps. in hopes of repeating as Super Bowl champion. Is that what it's all about? Does 125 yards rushing in the Super Bowl mean it's okay to ram your wife's car with your
Starting point is 00:58:26 oversized macho assault vehicle? Your douchemobile. Your douchemobile. Your fucking old school cyber truck, we'll call it. Same guy drives those two cars. Yeah. It's the same guy. Dickbags like that always get a new car.
Starting point is 00:58:45 There's always a new. A douche mobile. A new douche mobile. The new dickhead car. Absolutely. For a while, they had like a hemie charger. A lot of them drove for a while. They got into those for a bit.
Starting point is 00:58:58 Really? Yeah. And then, yeah. That's a, that's a, I call that car the wife slapper. That is. The hemie charger. Oh, God. You were driving that thing with at least a six pack under your belt and you are this close to backhand and your wife.
Starting point is 00:59:12 That's how every fucking person I see in that car. My mom drove one. There you go. We know how she is. Jimmy. Very, very. She's out here beating bitches. Beating women left and right, your mom is. I'm saying. She's tough, man. Does athletic excellence mean it's acceptable to endanger three lives, including that of your
Starting point is 00:59:31 two-year-old son just because Pittman can't handle his emotions? The answer can't be yes. Not if we're going to wait around and see how this civilization thing is going to work out. Pitman will get his due process and his day in court. This is America. From grand jury to verdict, the state of Arizona. will state its case and a conclusion will be reached. In the meantime, Pittman should not be allowed to play for the team or to practice with the team. It's simple.
Starting point is 00:59:55 He has a history of violence against women dating back to 1994 in his college days, if we remember that, the Fresno State incident. He's plea bargained. He's been and still is on probation. He's gone to treatment programs. He's apologized. It's time to acknowledge what Pittman is and treat him accordingly. The safety of Pittman's wife, Melissa, and their two young children is at stake.
Starting point is 01:00:16 not letting Pittman be part of the team there until there's some sort of resolution in his personal life is the best thing the bucks could do for Pittman. He needs to address the issues that give him such a dark side. What kind of anger makes such a strong man so violent toward those much weaker?
Starting point is 01:00:33 That's the thing. Is it because he can't seem to negotiate with linebackers? Is that the problem? Seems to be, right? They keep tackling him before he wants to go down so he's going to put someone else down before they want to.
Starting point is 01:00:44 Is that the problem? I don't know what it is. One would think Pittman's ability to run over and around NFL linebackers would satisfy whatever rage he holds inside, but we're not discussing logical behavior here. There's something sick and wrong going on inside Michael Pittman. He's shown that time and again. He must be stopped. Jesus, he must be stopped. Christ, it's like Jesse James or something.
Starting point is 01:01:09 Pitman's sinister episode seems so out of character. He's one of the most pleasant and agreeable Bucks players to interview. He's courteous, polite, even charming. Okay, great. But would you want to be alone with him in the middle of the night? Never. Probably not. But none of that matters as long as his potential for domestic violence goes unchallenged.
Starting point is 01:01:29 So much is on the line. And none of it has to do with trophies or championships when we're talking about the protection of women and children. Everything else becomes petty and inconsequential. Wow. That's some shit right there. So June 2010, the time. Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Pittman pleads not guilty.
Starting point is 01:01:49 Yeah. To two felony counts. His attorney, Phoenix-based attorney, Philip Nolan, said the whole situation will be worked out, adding Pittman, who's facing possible jail time for this probation shit here, will play his second season for the bucks. Quote, he's going to plead not guilty and we're going to work it out. He's going to be the team star player again this year. He wasn't the team star player last year.
Starting point is 01:02:13 So, again, somebody who didn't want to. much football. Yeah. Pitman 27 worked out Monday at one buck place after being charged with Wednesday with running into the that. We knew all that stuff. According to the arrest report, Jesus Christ. So Melissa's mother told police that she had been, they're going back over the claims. But this, Nolan, his attorney, dismisses the fact that the mother's been there and seen it and the babysitter's seen it. The wife claims it. He says, Michael's a wonderful guy. Oh.
Starting point is 01:02:48 Just a, yeah. I don't know how many police reports you have seen, but they all look like that. I know people, I know people say a lot of different things. There's nothing egregious about the statements in that report. Nothing. Just liars. That's all it is. Okay.
Starting point is 01:03:03 Like everybody else. Yeah, that's all. So that's what his lawyer saying, period. This is how they all look, and I've seen way worse ones. Yeah. His lawyer said it's certainly possible that he could be sent to jail if his probation's revoked, but added that there are other possibilities, such as a new probation term, or an appeal. Going to take care of it. Either way. Even if he's convicted or a plea, whatever, we're going to appeal the shit out of this. We'll never have to deal with this.
Starting point is 01:03:34 Well, June 11, 2003, the next day. This is all within 12 days, all this has happened. Pitman's wife won't pursue case. Oh, she already... Look at this. She's already backing up, huh? Charmed it up. Wow. Charmed it up and said, hey,
Starting point is 01:03:50 you want to have money and blah, blah, blah, blah. You want me to... You want alimony. I won't have any alimony to give you. And also, maybe I'll punch you more. So who the fuck knows we threatened her with? But either way, Michael and Melissa Pittman here told Phoenix
Starting point is 01:04:06 prosecutor she does not intend to press charges against her husband and hopes the state will follow the lead. Oh, my God. Yep. That is insane. Wow. They said Melissa has made the determination she does not want to proceed with criminal charges at all.
Starting point is 01:04:24 She hopes the state will drop the charges so that she and Michael can move on. She's an extremely strong person who has a lot of religious faith, which is part of all this shit, and believes that in the frailty of humanity, people make mistakes and can correct those mistakes. Oh, my. Wow. They went on to say, what people should perceive about Melissa is that she's a strong, caring, loving mother who is very forgiving. No one can judge her decisions until they have walked in her shoes. That's her lawyer saying that. Okay. Contacted late Tuesday, the Maricopa County Attorney's Office in Phoenix would not discuss details surrounding the Pittman case.
Starting point is 01:05:03 Listen, if it's just about you, you can. It's none of our fucking business. If you want to go get punched in the fucking head more, as much as I don't want you to, and as much as was the, I hate it. I hate it. And people are adults with free will. And if they want to, you can't keep two adults away from each other. But he ran a car into your car with a fucking two-year-old in it.
Starting point is 01:05:24 At some point, you got to go, I'm protecting my children now. It's not about me. Even if I want to get punched, it doesn't fucking matter. Even if some crazy thing, even if some lunatic wanted to get beat up. You got to give a shit. Protect your fucking kids at this point. That's crazy. But anyway, they said we've made contact with them and let them know we don't want to proceed.
Starting point is 01:05:45 And they have indicated they intend to proceed with the felony charges, the lawyer said. So the state said not really care. It's out of your hands at this point. We're doing it anyway. Yeah, especially in Arizona where athletes are constantly punching their wives. They've seen this many, many, many times. That's where they all live, I think. It's here in Florida.
Starting point is 01:06:04 It's possible. You know? So while an initial hearing on the felony counts are set for June. 16th, Pitman still faces another gigantic barrier, which is the probation issue there. So they're looking to do that. And they said that Pittman will likely appear in front of a judge very soon to figure that out. They also said it's a lot like a real trial, only that the burden of proof is different for the probation revocation hearing. The court will be looking for a preponderance of evidence to indicate he was not.
Starting point is 01:06:40 a law-abiding citizen, because that's what the terms of his probation say he has to be a law-abiding citizen. Uh-huh. In the probation hearing, the state does not have the same burden of proof as it would have in a criminal hearing. You just have to prove he's kind of an asshole, basically, and he'll put him away. So if he's found to be in violation, the consequences could be severe. They said the worst thing that could happen for Bucks fans is that he gets six months in jail
Starting point is 01:07:05 minus the five days from his original sentencing, but it would be entirely up to the judge. That's his lawyer saying that. Yeah. Yeah. Bucks fans. Anyway, June 13th, grand jury indicts Pittman on two counts of aggravated assault. There we go. There we go. Keep it moving.
Starting point is 01:07:23 And the probation hearing is coming up as well. June 18th, probation hearing day. Pittman's day in court delayed. Why? Move to July 2nd. Oh. Yep, because of a court conflict, not his fault. It was just the court did it.
Starting point is 01:07:40 They had a conflict. Probably a judge had something else going on. That happens all the time. Or even lawyers. If one of the lawyers has some crazy thing come up, they'll do shit like that. So, because they only delayed it less than two weeks. It's not like it's for months. So, yeah, they said basically anything could happen.
Starting point is 01:07:57 June 20th, 2003, Gruden says team will wait to decide on Pittman. Wow. We're going to wait until the court tells us whether or not we should do something. No, shit. the Gruden insisted Thursday that the Bucks only signed Thomas Jones and Terry Kirby as insurance in case Michael Pittman is convicted. Oh. The Bucks are not making plans to go out without Pittman yet. Gruden said, we are still gathering the facts, the ultimate opening line of the pussy.
Starting point is 01:08:29 Yeah. We're still gathering the facts. And when we get all the information, we'll make the decision that we deem appropriate. But in the time being, we need to make contingency plans. Yeah. Okay. June 25, 2003, Pittman to seek trial waiver. Oh. Okay. A court date is set for him, I guess here, for Tampa Bay running back Michael Pittman,
Starting point is 01:08:53 is set for the day after the team is scheduled to leave for a preseason game in Tokyo, meaning his attorney must ask a judge to waive the required personal appearance. You know, because he'll be playing football and all. Oh. Wow. They said he didn't have to appear last week as long as his legal representation demonstrates his client, knows what is going on and what his responsibilities will be because it's a preliminary thing. One of those responsibilities is to show up for all court proceedings, including the initial pretrial conference. That's what the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said.
Starting point is 01:09:30 So this is part of what he has to do, basically. So let's see what happens here. We never know. Um, which Pittman's charges in previous arrests are not severe enough to keep him from entering Japan. They said that, uh, I guess anyone who's been convicted of a crime and sentenced to one year in prison can be denied entry.
Starting point is 01:09:50 So you can only get, not get into Japan at that time if you had served a year in prison. Oh. Anything else. It's not like Canada where they can be like, ooh, disorderly conduct in 87, huh?
Starting point is 01:10:01 Not just disorderly conduct, but, yeah. Pissed on the street down by the Jersey Shore there in the late 80s. You're not coming in. And you were acquitted of it anyway. Yeah, still. Somebody else's dick.
Starting point is 01:10:11 You still can't come in. Turn it around. Trash bag. Yeah. Get on back, you piece of shit. Enjoy a Buffalo. Back to Detroit with you. Back to Buffalo over the falls with you.
Starting point is 01:10:21 Oh, man. So, and given the fact that he was released on his own recognizance after his arrest in May and has no history of failing to appear for court dates, it's unlikely a judge would keep him from leaving the country. It's not like he's going to stay in Japan. Now you can't get me. I live in Japan now. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:10:36 Now you're stuck. Yeah. July 3rd, 2003, he's expected to travel, which, like we said, not a, not surprising here. The attorney said, when Michael had his initial court appearance, he was given permission to go to Florida and participate in all club activities. The only difference here is he's leaving the country. That's kind of a big difference. He's going to the other side of the world, but that's fine. Yeah, so that's funny.
Starting point is 01:11:02 So they're trying to get these charges figured out. July 4th, 2003, his probation hearing is scheduled for the 21st of the month. Then it's changed to August 18th. We're from July 21st. So he just keeps getting pushed and pushed. And while this is going on, he's with the bucks. He's playing in preseason games. He's doing all his shit.
Starting point is 01:11:25 It's exactly what he fucking wants and exactly what good lawyers can get done. Sure. So, yeah, this all goes on. And it bleeds into the season. The 2003 season where the Bucks are seven and nine. Huge disappointment. Yeah. Huge from Super Bowl champions here.
Starting point is 01:11:42 After that. After all that. And that's crazy. So July 25th, 2003, though, Pittman works toward uncertain future. Uh-huh. Career in doubt, but Bucks lawed his camp effort. Thanks for trying.
Starting point is 01:11:59 Wow. That's fucking amazing. They said, you wouldn't know that he's got all his hanging over his head from watching Pittman run a countertrap or take a Brad Johnson pass in the flat and turn up field. Though his career could be interrupted or ended if he's found guilty, Pittman's focused enough on football to be one of the Buck's best training camp performers. He said, it's easy for me to concentrate. I just concentrate on football and that's it. Yeah? It's tough dealing with the distractions. I'm having fun. I'm having fun hanging with my teammates.
Starting point is 01:12:29 I'm having fun playing football. I feel great and I'm ready to go. These, uh, those, those, things are good. So, okay. John Gruden said, quote, he's having a great camp. Yeah. I mean, besides the two felony charges, which occurred during camp,
Starting point is 01:12:44 but besides those, he's having a great camp. He's got like 458 yards, 85 carries, and two felony charges. He's doing great. Ten catches and two felonies. He's shown great leadership here
Starting point is 01:12:59 and great fire. He's made plays running the ball and made great plays as a receiver in the passing game. game. Oh, wonderful. As long as there's that. Well, he's made impact plays with his speed.
Starting point is 01:13:10 He looks faster. I'm proud of what he's done. My God, you idiot. Fuck you, John Gruden. I'm proud of what he's done. He's a pro football player. An execution has been outstanding. He's been a strength of ours.
Starting point is 01:13:25 Speaking of strength, right under this, there's some strength, some strong stuff here. You should head to Sophisticats. What is that? Laundierre modeling, it says. Oh. Which, a strip club, I suppose? Launderee club, yeah. What the hell is the point of that?
Starting point is 01:13:45 Because they don't allow the others. They have strip clubs in Tampa. Yeah, oh yeah, why would you go to this? Where the fuck would you go somewhere where they have their clothes on if you don't want to see? You can get a Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue and see what's going on in there. Who cares? The whole point is to see tits, isn't it? I mean, yeah, unless they,
Starting point is 01:14:03 Unless it's a place that doesn't allow them. You know what I mean? Because there's... Yeah. Idaho's full of bikini bars, full of them. But this is Florida. This is pure trash. Yeah, this should be...
Starting point is 01:14:14 Yeah, you almost get to finger them. A Tampa stripper is like a... Oh, God, yeah. It's like an idiom almost. It's like a... It's a... It's just you don't... It's an escort that you don't put it in.
Starting point is 01:14:28 That's what it is. Tampa stripper. Yeah, perhaps you can. All the wrong. wrestlers live there for years for a reason. You know, strippers. I don't know, man. This is weird.
Starting point is 01:14:38 Well, it says here, it's in Tampa, Florida, a 3804. We'll have to ask Richie about that. Certainly. A Street, one block north of Kennedy off some shit. I don't know. It says 2001, 2002, night moves, best lingerie shop and models. So apparently it's a lingerie shop where they have lingerie on. It's a weird.
Starting point is 01:14:58 I only dance to Bob Seeger. Apparently. That's those thing. fucking Bob Seeger owns the joint. Yeah. That's the magazine that did at night moves. Okay. Which I'm sure is their version of fucking L.A. Weekly or whatever,
Starting point is 01:15:11 their fucking trash rag. In the touch or some shit. Yeah. Free rag is. Abby, Heidi, Kylie, Ashland, Kaylee, Madison, Carrie Lee, Savannah and Courtney. Also, Marsala and Keiana.
Starting point is 01:15:25 Oh, Marsala, too. Yeah, yeah. And Keanu's. I was going to say they have a lot of Ashlans and Kayle's. They got to have a Keanu in there, too, don't you? What are you going to do? So for everybody. Yeah, so I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:15:37 We could have just Ashlands and Cayleys. You can't have that. You got to have a key on it too. August 12, 2003, Orlando Sentinel. Bucks put heads in the sand over Pittman issue. Oh, they're just going to forget it, huh? That's the editorial here. Lake Buena Vista is the fucking byline.
Starting point is 01:15:54 Even now, they're behind him. They're backing him. They support Michael Pittman. Cornerback Ronde Barber said, He's still my boy and it'll always be my boy. Still my boy. Just once, wouldn't you like to hear an athlete take a different slant? Just once, wouldn't you like to hear someone on the buck stand up and say,
Starting point is 01:16:13 we don't support Michael Pittman. We won't condone domestic violence. We're embarrassed to have someone like that on our team. Yeah, I would like to hear him go, fuck that guy. Fuck that guy. Football is so fucked up, though, no matter what's going on, they could be fucking raping goats in the locker room and nobody would say it was bad. It's too bad.
Starting point is 01:16:31 That's just, you know, hey, we're a team. And if that guy's got to rape a goat as long as it gets him up and he performs on Sunday. We ride together. Then, you know, goats got to get raped. You know what I mean? He'd be like, you eat goats. Can't rape him? What's the difference?
Starting point is 01:16:43 So can we eat it after we rape it? Would that make it better? So four times now he's been arrested on domestic violence charges. Four times and he still represents the Super Bowl champions and the National Football League. Still, bucks fans are paying the multi-million. in dollar salary of a man who habitually harms women. A spokeswoman for the battered women project here said domestic violence is a serious offense and those guilty of it should be held accountable.
Starting point is 01:17:12 Well, no shit, obvious person. And he goes, and please spare us the innocent till proven guilty cop out that the coaches so conveniently use when one of their stars gets into trouble. It doesn't work here. Hittman's already been found guilty twice and arrested one other time. And that doesn't even count the, quote, 30 or 40. 40 prior domestic violence situations that his wife Melissa told police were never reported. Right.
Starting point is 01:17:37 Whatever happened at three strikes and you're out. Now it's four strikes and you're going to start against the Eagles. Yeah. And you're in the starting lineup. Yeah. You never like to see any of your players written about on the metro page. If he's on the metro page and he's not kissing babies, it's not positive. Especially when that's what Buck's GM, Rich McKay says.
Starting point is 01:17:59 Yeah. especially when the baby's in the car and sub this is back to the editorial especially when the baby's in the car and some mad bands allegedly ramming his Hummer into it that's the latest charge against Pittman and go on to explain that a little bit bucks coach John Gruden says he's quote sensitive to domestic violence issues which is certainly an admirable public stance what is that mean that's what I'm saying so then coach why is Pittman still on the team I'm sensitive to it Okay. And he goes, thank you very much, and he leaves. Wow. Like avocados. My throat gets itchy. Yeah, that's what it is.
Starting point is 01:18:39 Real sense. Why is he still on the team? Because Gruden said, I'm not going to sit in judgment. It's out of my realm. Out of my realm? I don't think judging a player's character is out of the coach's realm at all, because they constantly say they get rid of guys for character issues and shit of that nature. How am I?
Starting point is 01:18:59 That's wild. I don't know what he means by that. Is he trying to say it's above my pay grade? I don't get to make that decision? He basically, I'm not a judge. I'm not a this. I'm not a that. Out of your fucking mind?
Starting point is 01:19:12 Evidently. They cut and sign players for lots of different reasons fold into one. Skill, talent, character counts, because how does that affect the rest of the team? All this shit. It's in there. Out of his realm.
Starting point is 01:19:27 Wow. True. Gruden is not the. judge and jury here, but he is the coach of Super Bowl champions, the highest profile job and the highest profile sport in the country. Gruden could make a difference by being different. Instead of standing by his man, why not stand up for women? When you want to get the attention of the growing number of wife abusing pro athletes, fire them. Imagine the message it was sent. It would send for the coach of the world champions to cut their star running back who rushed for 124 yards in the Super Bowl.
Starting point is 01:19:54 Imagine the impact if Gruden were to fire Pittman with these words. This isn't a legal issue. It's a moral one. Champions, real champions don't abuse women. That's a great point. That's perfect. But he won't. Gruden's a coach and coaches see the world through the film projectors and hear it through electronic headsets. In Lawrence Phillips, the rest of us saw a violent man who beat up his girlfriend and dragged her down three flights of stairs by her hair. Tom Osborne saw a Heisman trophy candidate. Oh, he was the ultimate fucking. Phillips was one of our first real sweep under the ruggers there that we've covered because he was like episode two. In Michael Pittman, the rest of us see an angry man who allegedly rammed his
Starting point is 01:20:36 Hummer into his wife and kid. Gruden sees 1,200 all-purpose yards. But just this once, wouldn't you love to see the fearsome Bucks defense make a goal line stand against something more important than stopping the Raiders, like stopping domestic violence? Yeah, I would say that'd be nice. September 4th, 2003, Pittman's wife and babysitter, now in legal trouble. Why?
Starting point is 01:20:57 for lying? Wow. Buck's running back, Michael Pittman won't have to stand trial on felony charges in Arizona until January, conveniently after the season, by the way. But his alleged victim now faced, victims now face more pressing matters with court authorities. Arrest warrants were issued Wednesday for Pittman's wife, Melissa, and the family's babysitter Christina Hegeland, or Hedgeland who had been subpoenaed to appear at the pretrial conference and who were cited for failure to appear. They won't come in and do. They're under subpoena.
Starting point is 01:21:34 Yeah. You have to. Otherwise, this is what happens. Yeah. So they said it's not unusual for victims in domestic violence cases not to participate. That's what the Maricopa County Attorney's Office said. It appears unusual to some degree to issue a bench warrant. So, yeah.
Starting point is 01:21:52 Melissa's attorney was in Arizona and said he'd be filing a motion to quash the warrants against both women, arguing the subpoenas were served improperly. Were they served out of state? They served in Tampa, maybe, or were they served in Arizona? Because I could actually tell you if they were served properly in Arizona. I know the rules. I did that. So Wednesday's surprising developments show that Pittman may still face battle in court, even if his wife and Hague and Hengland do not intend to assist in the prosecution. They said Melissa has made it evident to the Maricopa County that she has no intention of proceeding in this matter, adding that the Pittmans and Hengland were in Tampa on Wednesday.
Starting point is 01:22:33 Their intention is to make an example of Michael if the victims don't want to prosecute. What's the point? That's what her attorney said. Wow. Brennan said a subpoena must be served in person by a registered mail with a signature confirmation because they're doing it out of state. He said the subpoena was sent in regular mail in reference to a pre-referencing. scheduled date in August, and no notification was made of any postponement. That stands in opposition to prosecutor, the prosecutor, who said to the Arizona Republic,
Starting point is 01:23:03 she served the subpoenas to both women personally when they were in Arizona with Pittman for a pretrial conference in July. Well, unless she's a prosecutor or a process server, she didn't serve them personally because that's not how it works in Arizona. Yeah, she can't. Maybe for that kind of conference possibly, I don't know, that's above, I wouldn't have had to serve that, so I wouldn't have had to know the rules for that. But like, for a regular service, the prosecutor can't do it. That's, they don't have, they're not a process server.
Starting point is 01:23:30 It's a separate thing, a separately licensed deal. So, um, anyway, they said, Brennan said that in the event that the warrant stand, he expects Melissa Pittman and Hegelen can satisfy the court's request by posting a bond to assure they will be present to testify when the trial, when the assault charges go to trial January 13th. Michael Pittman had his own appearance at Wednesday's conference waived with his Phoenix based attorney. Pitman continued to practice and play. Yeah, so he didn't show up either, but he added
Starting point is 01:23:59 permission to not show up. They just didn't show up. So 2003, with this hanging over his head, he plays in all 16 games, starts 13, has 187 attempts for 751 yards. He did it again. Yep, four yards of carry this time, which is, hey,
Starting point is 01:24:17 that's closer to better. January 27th, 2004, the lawyer for Michael Pittman filed a motion Tuesday to continue a probation hearing scheduled, and now it'll be February 19th. This is the one from June that they keep doing to suspend his probation. His lawyer said, I've talked to the prosecutor, and he has no problem with it. Okay. January 24th, 2004, 2004, here we go. Bucks running back Michael Pittman and his wife, Melissa, are knocking down. down walls and stand between them and happiness. Oh, that's great. They're working on themselves. This is the Tampa Tribune saying this. Holy shit.
Starting point is 01:25:02 The water fountain Michael Pittman turned on, kept running, and his eyes were fixated on the most beautiful woman he had ever seen. Pittman just finished working out at a gym in Arizona and noticed her at the racquetball courts. This is a fluff piece on this fucking asshole. They are much better. Who is this? Anwar S. Richardson. You have two dicks that you can suck right here between me and Jimmy, I would say. Anwar. Encourage them to get back together, Anwar?
Starting point is 01:25:31 Wow. They later made eye contact at the smoothie bar. Both were too nervous to start a conversation. Oh. But as they assure you, each wanted to say something. Two days later, Pittman left the gym a few minutes before her. He got into his 1998 Ford Mustang GT, and they finally had common. ground. Melissa yelled out, hey, nice car. She drove up in the same vehicle, just an older model. Yeah. I was in shock because that came out of my mouth because it's not really my personality, she said recently. I always want a man to walk up and approach me. I didn't even walk up to him. I just yelled it out as I was walking out the door. Good Christ. Pitman, running back for the Cardinals at the time, got her phone number. They began dating and were married two and a half months later.
Starting point is 01:26:17 He's just a fountain of good decisions, this guy. Oh, that bug, yeah. Both now admit they knew nothing about the work it would take to have a successful marriage. Michael was 24, Melissa was 21. The Pittman's now 28 and 25 say they've enjoyed many good times in private. The bad times have made national news. Michael Pittman, who joined the Bucks in 2002, is scheduled to stand trial on three counts of aggravated assault, three counts of reckless endangerment in Phoenix.
Starting point is 01:26:47 He's accused of rhyming his Hummer, obviously. It was Pittman's third domestic violence arrest, blah, blah, blah. Okay, regardless of what happens, the Pitmans, who were advised against talking about the specifics of the case. We're just going to talk about how loving our relationship is instead. And said they will walk into the courtroom together and believe they will walk out the same way. You bet. Wow. I don't fear going to jail.
Starting point is 01:27:14 I fear not being there for my family, Michael Pittman says. Hold on. If anything is ever needed in their own bullshit words, it's this one. God damn it, I do not like this guy at all.
Starting point is 01:27:26 There's some, some people are whatever. It's very easy to hate. I don't like him. Quote, I don't fear going to jail. I fear not being there for my family. I'm a man.
Starting point is 01:27:37 And I can handle it if jail happens, but what's going to happen is already written. God knows what's going to happen. I'm going to keep the faith and keep praying. Fuck you. How's that?
Starting point is 01:27:49 Eat your vitamins. That's right. This brother. The Pittman's credit God for saving their marriage. Jesus. Christ, these two are like a fucking... Oh, God. Just they're like a big...
Starting point is 01:28:03 Like a fart made of bullshit, is what they are. They're awful. The Pittman's credit God for saving their marriage. Melissa was running out of options. She loved her husband, but knew something had to change. Church had been a consistent part of... of her life since she was 14, but she had strayed. Without Walls, or without Walls, I thought it was without this church, but it's without
Starting point is 01:28:25 Walls International Church in Tampa, was holding evening sessions or services Saturday on Saturdays at Carpenter's Home Church in Lakeland. Melissa was invited by Pastor Randy White, not the ex-Cowboys defensive lineman, right? It might be. And began attending late in 2002, but Pittman was more hesitant. Pittman thought being alone was better than opening up, but his walls eventually started to come down last summer. Oh, he's found God, everything we find now.
Starting point is 01:28:56 He's breaking another rule. After the incident, the couple sold their home in Phoenix and moved to Tampa. They care if you beat your wife in Phoenix. We're moving to Florida where it's practically expected. Certainly encouraged. Yeah, certainly not discouraged. We know that. Wow, they later started.
Starting point is 01:29:16 attending church together. Jesus Christ. So, who was this white guy? They, oh, I guess that's the, okay. When it first hit the media, they say, quote, and I knew he was going to stay in the Tampa Bay area. Pastor Paula and his wife and I reached out through several players for him to please come see us.
Starting point is 01:29:42 Eventually, they showed up at church. At first, Michael was very good. guarded. At dinner, we shared with him our success stories like Gary Sheffield and Daryl Strawberry. And that's when he started opening up to us. The Pittmans began seeing a sequence of counselors to improve themselves in their relationship. They had weekly sessions with the whites, assistant pastor Bob Malin, and Buck's team chaplain RV Brown and professional clinical counselor Kurt Hoover. The NFL initially agreed to appoint White as Pittman's mandatory. counselor. He received guidelines from professionals about conflict resolution and anger management
Starting point is 01:30:21 and reported to the NFL about Pittman's progress. Great. The NFL eventually appointed Hoover, but Pittman continued to counsel with White, who says there's been significant progress in his marriage. When the couple first began counseling, White wanted to know on a scale of one to ten where their love was. They said, what does that mean? Yeah, how about where is his fist? Fuck is love. This is crazy. On a scale of 1 to 10, where is your love? Where's your love? They said 1.
Starting point is 01:30:51 Oh, I hate her. We're down at a 1, both of them. Yeah. When asked the same question recently, the answer had improved to 9. Oh. It's all Jesus. That's a cash it in. From 1 to a 9, James, this is a love story.
Starting point is 01:31:05 Oh, it's amazing. Yeah, this is actually a heart warmer. I was kind of upset. Now my heart is warmed. I don't even know what to say. I'm so proud of everyone involved. Jesus fucking, God damn it. Throughout the 2003 season,
Starting point is 01:31:20 Pittman attended church services on the mornings of home games. He attends monthly Bible study with other high-profile athletes at the church and when conflicts arise at home, his first call is to White. He's his domestic violence sponsor is what he is.
Starting point is 01:31:35 That's what he is at this point. When you want a puncher, call me. Call me instead. We'll go fucking have a bunch of coffee at a Denny's. You can chain smack a smoke a pack of cigarette. I want to chain smoke some camels? Come on down to the fucking I hop and we'll get it on. He, meaning Michael, does things around the church and always goes that extra mile. He will show up just to help with the youth or our outreach ministries. He's opened up to me. No matter where his career takes them, I hope he keeps his relationship with God strong and loves his wife. The proof is in the pudding. I feel he's very sincere. I feel Melissa, who knows him best, is
Starting point is 01:32:14 very sincere. Yeah. All these athletes have such high-profile status. So many inner city youth look up to them. And if these athletes can tell them, learn from my mistakes, it will make a difference in so many lives. But you're not saying he's making any mistakes. That's the point.
Starting point is 01:32:31 Yeah, you had to admit a problem first. Yeah. He's not one of these people who's like, oh, I killed somebody and now I'm seeking forgiveness from God because I feel like that'll make me feel better in some way, shape, or form. He's saying everything was always fine. Nothing's wrong. We just had some marital problems, and now Jesus fixed it all. This is ridiculous.
Starting point is 01:32:48 But anytime, it's what they always say. To fix a problem, you have to admit there's one in the first place. If they're not admitting that, then there's a problem. Yeah, asking any alcoholic who stopped drinking. Yeah. Admitting you were a drunk is a fucking part of it. I think it is, yeah. The Pittmans know they will have doubters.
Starting point is 01:33:07 They know that some will always perceive Michael as a wife-beater. Crazy, crazy folks. Unbelievable. Though he denies he's ever physically assaulted Melissa others will think Melissa's a weak woman
Starting point is 01:33:20 too scared to leave her star athlete husband I think weak and scared are different I don't think she's weak I think she's scared
Starting point is 01:33:28 and I think she's also open to be lied to as well I think she has a please lie to me as her general also worried
Starting point is 01:33:36 that she's gonna be broke well I don't even know if it's her broke or I'm like oh I don't I don't know if it's about like
Starting point is 01:33:43 well I want to wear nice clothes or if it's also like it'll ruin my kids future. That's also a lot of times women care more about their children than themselves a lot will he take it out on them. Yeah. Yeah. Sure. Yeah.
Starting point is 01:33:54 financially. Yeah, absolutely. Here's a quote here from the executive director of the St. Petersburg community, action stops abuse, whatever the fuck, coalition organization. Quote, I don't doubt religion can help in a situation like this. but I'm skeptical. I have faith, religion can heal, but my experience is just,
Starting point is 01:34:18 is it's just a way to get back to her. Yeah, this is a way to get back in Melissa's Good Graces. I don't doubt it, but I'm skeptical. That's doubting, in it? Well, I don't doubt religion can help in a situation,
Starting point is 01:34:31 but she's saying that it's most of the time, like, you know, about 10% of the time, maybe it does change someone's heart. Most of the time, it's just a way, it's a new charming manipulation, a way to get them back.
Starting point is 01:34:42 Look, I've changed. Now I love Jesus. I'll read you the Bible. See, I'm different now. Batterers are aware of what it takes to come in and push the envelope. That's what he's using to pull her back in. And she also says, women all have a dream when we get married. A white house, a picket fence, and a dog.
Starting point is 01:35:01 Giving up the dream is harder than giving up the relationship. They say if I love him enough, he will survive. They feel like they can love the hell out of him, which doesn't happen. Right. True. Melissa Pittman has refused to cooperate with prosecutors. The spokesman's office for the Maricopa County says, well, we're going to trial. We're doing all this shit.
Starting point is 01:35:25 And yeah, Sigmund Popko, a legal writing professor at Arizona State University's College of Law, said, well, actually, he said this, though, like, while wearing his underwear on his head right after a keg party. So it's sketchy. With two number two pencils firmly up his ass. Well, and then two hanging like walrus. Yeah, of his nose. And then he turns around and goes, My ass is a walrus too. Check it out, buddy.
Starting point is 01:35:53 Ha ha! And he goes, all right, everybody's settle in. Let's get started with class. My ass got feelers. Jesus Christ. He said Melissa's lack of cooperation with authorities will be, quote, more help to the defense than harmful to the prosecution's case.
Starting point is 01:36:09 They won't hurt the prosecution. but it will help the defense. That makes sense. Even without the participation of Melissa or the babysitter, the prosecution has a third victim to be concerned with. They said with uncooperative adult victim
Starting point is 01:36:22 slash witnesses, a prosecutor is more likely to avoid a trial if possible. However, here, there's an alleged third victim, a fucking baby. Yes. Yeah. It might be the case that the prosecutor
Starting point is 01:36:35 believes that this, quote, victim needs to be vindicated, even if the two adults do not wish to be. Good way to put it. put it, Pittman's knowledge of the occupants of his wife's car could also play into the prosecution's hands. They said whether the prosecutor believes that Pittman knew the baby was in the car would probably play a role in the prosecutor's thinking.
Starting point is 01:36:55 If the prosecutor believes that Pittman knew the baby was in the car and chose to ram it anyway, that would be an even greater reason to proceed to trial, notwithstanding the wishes of any other victims. Yeah, it wouldn't matter. That's fucking crazy if he knew. Yep. The next section of this article is called Remaining Strong. Melissa Pittman believes her willingness to stand by her husband shows strength, not weakness.
Starting point is 01:37:18 Okay. Quote, the media has portrayed me to be weak, a wounded victim, and I can't stand on my own feet. But anybody who knows me knows that is not me. I stand behind him, not because I love him, but because I'm strong enough to stand behind him. Strong enough to take a punch to the fucking jaw every once in a while is what she's saying. This jaw is not glass. What the fuck are you talking about, man? Why did you give that statement to the cops then if none of this fucking happened?
Starting point is 01:37:48 And if it did happen, why the fuck would you take, why would you go to the newspaper? There's no weak woman that can be with Michael and stay with Michael because there's so many women out here throwing themselves at him. That's what she says. He's mine. Okay. Two R. Rossi. You're nothing but a whore. Stop throwing yourself at him.
Starting point is 01:38:08 Yeah. That's what she's doing. I have to stand strong. I have to stand strong and say, I'm not going to let Satan tear apart my marriage. God. She's bringing that. Oh, God. Why is religion the worst for everything?
Starting point is 01:38:24 Jesus Christ. She says, my name is Melissa Pittman, but my name is Melissa Pittman by marriage. I was Melissa before I met him. I'm still Melissa today. and I'm always going to be Melissa with or without Michael. But I'm always going to be with Michael, and nobody is going to take that away from us. Melissa's indignation rises with the suggestion she would stay
Starting point is 01:38:46 because her husband's in the middle of a five-year contract worth almost $9 million. Has nothing to do with it. She said a lot of people think I stay because he has money, and he stays because he doesn't want to pay me the money. Well, that part's definitely true, I would say. You don't want to give half of it. I'm not saying that's your, my mom. But it certainly fucking is.
Starting point is 01:39:06 But that's not the case. We want to be together. If we didn't want to be together, we wouldn't be, she says. The Bucks coach John Gruden professes support for Pittman. Of course he does. Yeah, no shit. Yep. Gruden said, a lot of people go to court and are proven innocent.
Starting point is 01:39:24 Statistics prove that. I'm going to stand behind a guy that's been loyal and hardworking for our organization. You know what happened, dude. You fucking dickless ginger cunt. Fuck you. Loyalty matters. I'm going to support. I just want to put him out in the sun for like five days and watch him burn to a cinder, this fucking idiot.
Starting point is 01:39:46 I'm going to support him on the issues. He tells me certain things, and until the legal system resolves, I'm going to be supportive of him like I would anyone. The Pittman's vow to stay together regardless of the legal outcome. They say getting past the trial in their marriage has. been the biggest hurdle. Wow. Melissa says, I wouldn't take back anything we've gone through. If we wouldn't have gone through those things, we wouldn't be here right now.
Starting point is 01:40:13 We'd probably be divorced. We could have been together, but we wouldn't have been where we are right now. She says, God allows you to go through certain things and show you the way. Yeah, man. God can sometimes. Oh, my God. And then right after that, the trial's fucking postponed again. We'll take some time.
Starting point is 01:40:36 We'll take it. Holy shit. So we're going to end it right there. All right. And we will pick this episode up and finish it off next week for sure. We're going to pick it up with the beginning of the trial and a possibility of a plea deal and all this other shit. Even though he's very innocent. He's going to plead guilty.
Starting point is 01:40:53 Maybe we'll see. So we'll find out the resolution when we come back, finish up Michael's career. And also he gets in some more trouble. You think this is the last he gets in trouble? Jesus apparently He runs out of steam after a while Jesus, you know how he is He kind of takes a back seat after a while
Starting point is 01:41:11 But anyway, there you go everybody That is Michael Pittman part two And sorry for a lot of Kind of vitriol From both of us, not sorry, but just That's what we're saying Because I don't know why certain guys That doesn't upset you that I don't like when women get hit
Starting point is 01:41:27 Yeah, that we're not thrilled with women getting hit No, but then we get blamed People say that we're dicks because we're also mad at her for not leaving. It's like, you don't know what's going on. No, I don't, but I understand you have a goddamn child to fucking protect. I don't really give two shits what's going on in your fucking mind. I don't care what you've been through.
Starting point is 01:41:44 I don't care where you're going. Your kids involved, you fucking idiot. How about that? Right. How is that wrong to protect your fucking child? And if he's in a car and you're in a car, that means you have opportunity to get away. There's ways to, there's ways.
Starting point is 01:42:02 of ways. I get it's hard, but yeah, when you're in this position and you have a, a child that's being bashed by a fucking Hummer, I get it,
Starting point is 01:42:12 that's scary and there's, I know the resources. Horrible. I get it. We're not women and we've never been in that position. So it's hard for us to judge
Starting point is 01:42:18 and it's, and I'm not trying to judge her, but God damn it. But I got a mom who was in that position and guess what? She got us out of that. Thank you. That's what I'm trying to get at.
Starting point is 01:42:26 I was trying to get at that without becoming too personal with our own life situations and shit. I'll never forget that horrible screen. It's a terrible, terrible thing. And if you're not willing to take the initiative and get the fuck out of there, then what do you have the initiative for? I'm saying, your kid is a beyond that shit.
Starting point is 01:42:46 I get for yourself and I get the psychology that goes on it. But something has to go, God damn it, motherfucker, like any other animal, any other fucking mammal, if you come near my kid, I'll bite your fucking face off, period. Like every fucking wild animal in the forest has that. But for some reason, we can't do this. People can't. I don't get it. I get this. There's more psychology involved in people.
Starting point is 01:43:08 But anyway, there you go. Michael Pittman, part two, part three, finished up next week. My God.
