Starting point is 00:00:00 You know, it's interesting, when you have nothing to lose, you're the most dangerous person on the plane. I couldn't pay my cell phone bill. They took my car. I will go to the end of the earth to figure this out. So you're building your business thinking you want more. You don't want more. You want to be happy. Do you think that's a lack of clarity of what they want? You brought up ego. Is that the biggest cost? 100%. They just don't want it bad enough. What I believe is God cut my head off for a reason. I was totally blinded by my ego and I lost track. I may have lost more in 2024 than I did in 2007. But it's all relative, man. And if I got through that, I can get through this.
Starting point is 00:00:36 It may not be the last time you go through something. It's like, I'm going to build more fucking mountain. Like, I got to keep going. You need to understand that there's no finish line. A lot of people want that finish line. They want to know that they've arrived. The overnight success is not a real thing. It takes time.
Starting point is 00:00:49 You need determination to get to where you want to go, but you first have to decide what you want. And then you've got to commit to it. All right, boys, real talk. There's a moment every guy has. Mine was scrolling through old photos and going, wait, when the heck did that happen? My hairline's creeping back and you may be telling yourself, like I did, it's just the lighting. It's not the lighting.
Starting point is 00:01:20 Another funny thing is when my kids started pointing out the fact that I had all these bald spots all over the top of my head, the amount of bald spot I have was massive and now it has shrunk to about that big. I decided to do something about it and enters Lock Lab. It's one pill every day, every morning, nothing else, just done. No more denial phase. But if you're in mid-denial phase, right now, I see you. So all you got to do is go to locklab.com, fill out the form to see if you qualify, and then bang, ends up at your doorstep.
Starting point is 00:01:50 I want you to imagine being a 25-year-old. You got everything going for you, and then all of a sudden, the brokerage you were running in Northern California shuts down in the middle of the market crash. No car, no money, no place to live until a friend offers you a couch. And on that couch, every single day, you make a decision to make 100 phone calls every single day to strangers. 90 of them hang up on you. Eight of them give you a small conversation, and two of them agree to meet with you in a Starbucks.
Starting point is 00:02:19 I got a man next to me on the show named Justin Colby that is here because he understands the mechanics of determination and what it takes and what it costs you. He doesn't teach in theory. He teaches from scars. And with that being said, Justin Colby, well. Welcome to the show. Bro, I am smiling so big right now. Cause this is literally the first time we've ever met.
Starting point is 00:02:43 We've been having a blast and you have memorized my startup story. Your startup story is amazing. Dude, I'm like grinning ear from here. This is like, I'm probably red. Like this is awesome, bro. That is amazing. The thing, and we'll get into it, man.
Starting point is 00:03:01 I don't wanna get too far in Louise, but your story is my exact story. Really? So I was 28. Watched my car get repoed. Short sold my house. No way. So you were on the broker's side.
Starting point is 00:03:16 Well, no. Well, I was an agent. Yes, I was. I was on the mortgage side. I lost everything. So when I started reading on this last night, I'm like, wait a second, this story is way too similar. Because I also met people at Starbucks. and I leverage the freaking hell out of the free refills, dude.
Starting point is 00:03:40 Dude, stop it. I think people think I'm lying when I tell my story. I'm like, guys, I'm not lying. It was free. You sit in there and you just say, I need another. Boom. And I still do it. And I can pay for the shit now.
Starting point is 00:03:56 Like, hey, can I get a refill? Yeah, but there's $7. So give me some more free. Yeah, seriously. God dang, man. But, you know, it's funny because, like, in those moments, right, where you lose everything. I can remember looking in couch cushions for change to buy the first cup of coffee. That's it.
Starting point is 00:04:12 So your story, man, really resonates with me. But let's start at the beginning. Yeah. You know, have you always been a determined individual or is it something that you had to build along the way? I think it's a great question. I think there's something my childhood is rough, right? And everyone has their story, right? So this by no means is a woe is me.
Starting point is 00:04:35 And I don't mean rough like I was homeless and sleeping in a car, not quite there. Alcoholic parents, mom dad and stepdad, you know, showing up at home after school and my mom's passed out on the kitchen floor, that kind of stuff, right? So I just found myself, well, I got to figure this out at a very young age. And I had to navigate some very awkward scenarios. Like I'd bring a friend home after practice and there's my mom passed out on the couch at 4 p.m. And, you know, I'm like, oh, she's just napping. No, she's drink a fifth of vodka. She's passed out, right?
Starting point is 00:05:09 And I'm navigating some of these things. And so I think very early on, without knowing it, I created what I would call this shoulder shrug mentality. And it leans into this whole idea of being determined because, like, you go, all right, well, I got to deal with it. Yeah. Okay. Like, so what, now what? I'm going to hear about. I'm going to.
Starting point is 00:05:28 So what? Now what? What do I do? Right. And so the NBA finals just passed. last month and I've always been a big athlete you and I both grew up in the Bay Area playing baseball and all these things and so I'm no longer able to watch as much sports as I want to because I have two little kids I have a five-year-old and a two-year-old and I like to be a great
Starting point is 00:05:47 husband and I like to and so I caught a glimpse of some of the finals and it was New York and it was this big thing right because they haven't been in 50 years yeah so the point guard Jaylen Brunson I would catch his interviews and it really it kind of shook me to its core because who I am as a person is what he said. And he said something that I think even went viral when I reposted it, which was they were asking about how they lost this game, critical moments, big mistakes, all these mistakes they made. And they said something like, how do you feel about it?
Starting point is 00:06:21 And he's like, no, I thought about it. And I replayed it in my head. And then it went out and did something about it. And it gives me shivers repeating it. Because that's the only option you got. Like, what do you do? You go do something about it. So I've developed this shoulder shrug mentality as a kid because I didn't have any
Starting point is 00:06:41 option about whether my mom or dad or whatever we're going to drink or if my mom was going to show up on my practice and throw keys at my coach. There's just stuff like that, right? You're just like, all right, so that happened. Right? So what am I going to do about it? Yeah. And so, you know, the foundation of all this is my personal, my internal, my internal,
Starting point is 00:07:00 fortitude or personality towards struggle, strife, embarrassing moments, challenging moments, right? What am I going to do about it? Right? And so when that happened to me, probably naive enough to really not really care, no kids, no wife, no nothing. So I was like, free enough to be like, all right, well, I'm going to call my buddy and sleep on a couch, not ideal. But it was like, all right, rebuild time, like, figured out. And I didn't love being an agent. I don't know if you loved being a loan broker. I felt like I was just my I was unique because I was selling new homes because you and I were in the new home build phase and made probably a lot of money and it was amazing until it wasn't until it wasn't yeah and uh you know it's like I don't enjoy this
Starting point is 00:07:45 so then it was the okay who do I want to be and and then I have a whole thing that we can go on there but you know there's there's what I believe be five laws of success and the first one is you got to decide what you want the deciding what you want is so hard for people, right? Because they know exactly what they want. But then they play this game with themselves. Like, can I even do this? Right. Let me go ask somebody. Yeah. And that somebody says, you're crazy, don't do that. Do something super stable. Because all they're doing is just projecting their own limiting beliefs onto you. That's right. I would challenge everybody watching and listening that they do know what they want. They just have to be brave enough to go freaking
Starting point is 00:08:28 chase it down. Yeah. And do it like you did. Do it like I did. Get the shit kicked out of you. That's it. And get back up and do it again tomorrow. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:08:38 Because you don't know what the next phone call is going to bring. That's right. And it's funny you say that because I say something. So my five laws, success, the fifth law, in my words, is remove all your time expectation on the result you're trying to achieve. That's massive. Go into that for the audience because they need that. So I have a coach.
Starting point is 00:08:58 Ben Newman. You may be familiar with Ben. So Ben just poured into me. And him and I were going back and forth. And he wasn't even my coach yet. I had him on my podcast. And then we just vived out. And he was like, hey, dude, I got this program.
Starting point is 00:09:13 I'm like, I'm in, bro. You are phenomenal. But one of his best things that he really ingrained in me is he took my saying of removing the time expectation on your result you want. And he called it, have extreme focus in the same direction with aggressive patients. So long obedience, long obedience. Again, remove the time, same direction,
Starting point is 00:09:39 which goes back to what do you want with aggressive patience. Fight every day, all day, no matter what, but be patient on the result giving, being handed to you or achieving it. So I love that. And here's why. there's nothing that has ever been built people think i'm an overnight podcast host i've had a podcast since 2013 i have thousands and thousands maybe tens of thousands of episodes right now in 2020 three years ago finally downloads went from four which was my family i remember that to remember those days
Starting point is 00:10:19 You know, 40,000 and then 60,000, then 100. But everyone's like, bro, how did you do that? I'm like, oh, I just kept going when everyone else quit. I didn't do anything special. And now we just talked about it. I'm about to interview what I believe to be my biggest idol in the space of entrepreneurship, Gary Vee. He came to me. I didn't go call him.
Starting point is 00:10:39 I didn't go, I'm not paying him. But it's because I just kept going when everyone else fell off. There's so many lessons in that, right? specifically the aggressive patience because I can tie this back in 2022 or 2023 I said I looked at my wife I said I'm going to be out of corporate America by this date let's go and I was wrong it was another year and a half right so that must have been 22 because I didn't get out until 24 but when I didn't hit it started spiraled down I spiraled down yeah I ain't shit I'm never We're going to make it.
Starting point is 00:11:21 And I had my, I drowned in the, in baseball terms, I drowned in a pool of my own piss for that whole evening. And my wife looked at me and she said, it's okay that you're doing this right now. But tomorrow morning, lick your ass back up. That's it. You do what you do because you love it. And if you keep being yourself, you're going to break through. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:41 And of course, my answer at that way, you don't understand. That's not the way this business works. Yeah. She was right. Because I did break through. And it wasn't because I was doing anything special other than showing up. Yeah. And continuing to do it when the peanut gallery was laughing at me.
Starting point is 00:11:59 Because they did. And you know who the peanut gallery is? Is your closest friends and family? 1,000 percent. Which is so hurtful for a lot of people. Yep. And I just, I go back to my shoulder shrug. Like, I just go.
Starting point is 00:12:11 Okay. Go ahead. You know what I mean? Yeah. Go for it. But it's always nice on the back end when, Because my closest friends weren't like that. But I mean, it was the friends that you're close enough to.
Starting point is 00:12:24 Yeah, yeah. You know what I mean? And in the family, like, I think it was like a year ago. My mom said, how do I, how do I listen to your podcast? I'm like, well, geez, mom, I could have like five more downloads by now. Or listens. Like, come on. But no, it's that way.
Starting point is 00:12:38 And now I hear from one of my best friends that I play ball with at LSU, just texting me and saying how inspired. He is by what I've done and how he's so proud of me. When my homie text me, yo dude, I'm proud of you, like I get emotional. Yeah, bro. Because that's everything. You know, you want your people to be proud of you. But yeah, man, it is painful at the beginning.
Starting point is 00:13:06 And we've talked about off-air building the audience. I mean, you're 13 years in. I'm almost six. You know, like it was painful, man. And for the first, and I was talking to Will about this earlier at lunch, like, The first three, four years was just practice. Yeah. We didn't make a dime.
Starting point is 00:13:22 Oh, it's all out of pocket. You're paying to do. Everything. Yeah. Everything. Yeah. And we just started monetizing in December of 2024. Last year was modest.
Starting point is 00:13:32 This year it's exploded. And partly, the nice part about that is just right time, right place, right? So for me, it wasn't. I ate shit for 10 years. He basically started a business of podcasting and just fronted it for 10 years. Yeah. Which if you listen and look around to any entrepreneur that's done, anything great, like be ready to lose money for a very long time. A long-ass time. Long time.
Starting point is 00:13:54 If you love it enough, you'll stick with it. And frankly, although now it is a monetization point for me, I'm nowhere near what I've already invested in it. Because I had to invest for 10 years before I saw it come back. Right. So it's interesting. And this is where, you know, to the determined society, it's like, how bad do you want it? Right. And this goes back to my first rule, which is decide what you want. Right. Because then the next part of deciding what you want is you need to be become the person to achieve it. So let's say you want to go make $10 million. Who do you need to be to make $10 million?
Starting point is 00:14:25 Because it's the law of the lid, right? There's a lid. If you want $10 million, the version of you that's making a million can't reach $10 million. The version of you that needs to reach $10 million needs to work on yourself to get to the $10 million. So then your business can get to $10 million. But people don't look at it that way. They're like, oh, I hit a million. So now my next goal is 10.
Starting point is 00:14:45 Well, what are you doing on you to get yourself to build? a $10 million a year of business because now you've got to be a leader. You got to manage people. You have to lead people. You have to be like it's just a different version of you. The other thing that you got to think of too is like who do you have to get rid of? Oh yeah, 100%. That's come up a lot lately.
Starting point is 00:15:03 Yeah. It's been a year of cleansing for me. Oh yeah. It's been a hard year for you. It's that year, dude. Those are tough years. The hard middle, man. You know the messy middle.
Starting point is 00:15:11 The messy middle is a thing. And here's where I'm at. I have little kids. I'm kind of taking care of my parents and raising. kids at the same time and I'm like what is this? Like it's a weird phase. I'm 45 and I'm just like man right like it's kind of this thing. And so it is an interesting, interesting spot to be in our age.
Starting point is 00:15:34 Sure. And I can relate, dude. I mean, I'm not taking care of my parents, but I have a 12 year old son, nine year old daughter and a seven year old daughter. Like I know what it's like to be a dad and do what we do and be an entrepreneur and have the weight. am I doing enough for my kids? Am I a good?
Starting point is 00:15:51 Okay, let's talk about that. Bro. Because, and I've been seeing it on social media. And I don't do those things, the trendy things, because that's just not who I am. But I love to see them. Sure. I don't hate on them, but I'm not going to do them.
Starting point is 00:16:04 If someone does something like that, I'm not going to rip their idea and do it. Because it's to me that's not authentic. This is my own. Everybody else, go ahead. Yeah. But there was this video of this dude. in the gym, just working his ass off.
Starting point is 00:16:21 And it says, them, you're such a great dad. You're so successful. And it says, me, am I president enough? Am I present enough? Am I doing enough for my wife? Am I a good dad? Am I losing my temper? Am I providing enough?
Starting point is 00:16:35 And the list went on and on and on and on. And people don't realize what goes on behind a man's eyes every single day. That's powerful. It's very true. I struggle every day with this. Yeah. Like today is a good example, right? Like yesterday.
Starting point is 00:16:51 Well, yesterday was a great example. My soon-to-be pre-K kid is, you know, meet the parents' day. And it's at 10 a.m. And I'm like, I would love to be there. I just have meetings and I have things that I do. Like I wish I was just wealthy enough to never have to deal with that. But it's a very real, I never know if it's enough. Like when I do have to be stern and punish and like, is it right?
Starting point is 00:17:19 Should I be handling it different? Like there's all these books and everyone has an opinion. But like you just fight with that. Am I providing for my wife the way that she needs me to provide for her? It is, and I'm not saying, let me say this way. I think what men go through is vastly under respected relative to the female. rhetoric around being a mom, giving birth, you know, taking care of kids. We don't, we, because we are the voice of us, don't talk about it enough.
Starting point is 00:17:58 It's very difficult. Yeah, and I honor what women go through. Of course. And you do too. And you're not saying that. They go through a lot of things. They carry the child. They give birth.
Starting point is 00:18:07 Their bodies changes. Their hormones change. They go for parimenopause. And they go through menopause. You know, we have our own things, too. And, you know, a lot of it is. shouldering? Am I providing the way? Am I loving my wife the way she wants to be loved? Am I missing at 10 o'clock at meet the teacher? And if I choose not to go to the meeting,
Starting point is 00:18:27 what position am I putting my family in if I don't get that deal? Because now our whole lives can change financially. And I've got all this thing to pay for. You live in a very good part of Miami. You told me where you live. I'm not going to say it, but I know where you live. And I know what that means. We have a responsibility to uphold that for your children, not because, because they can't live without less, but because you experienced something as a child. Yeah. And it is formed your version of a father and a provider.
Starting point is 00:18:56 100%. And that's your prerogative. You gotta go to the meeting. I've been judged. So 2024 was by far the hardest financial year in business, even worse than when I was sleeping on the couch. 2024 was that way for you too? I got my ass kicked in 2024.
Starting point is 00:19:13 Who are we? Do we just become best friends? I think so. You wanna do karate in the garage? Carotting garage. Yep. If you guys aren't old enough to know that, then... Then I don't know how to...
Starting point is 00:19:22 Yeah. It's called stepbrothers. Go freaking watch it. It was by far the hardest year, and I've come out and said it. Like, I have a very, very good friend, I consider him an older brother, Kent Clothier, who, you know, I was still kind of image-wise keeping up, like, everything's fine.
Starting point is 00:19:41 Meanwhile, I'm getting crushed. Yeah. And he just sat me down. And this is what a real friend does. He doesn't snicker behind my back. He doesn't sit there and judge me. He literally, we're running an event together. He says, hey, bro, I'm in whatever room.
Starting point is 00:20:00 Come over the room. Come over the room. And he sits me down. He's like, knock it off, bro. I'm like, what? I had no idea what he was talking about, right? Because I'm like, you know. And he's like, you're going through it, dude.
Starting point is 00:20:12 And I just watched you have a video about, your gold Rolex and your thing and like knock it off. He was like, you need to understand out to be transparent and vulnerable. And the moment you do that, people will look at you as a real one. Funny enough, I get home. And it just, it caught me off guard in a great way. I wasn't, I didn't push back on it. And I said, I needed this.
Starting point is 00:20:41 I felt, I just owned it. I was like, yes. Immediately go out and post my. war stories fighting the dragons what's happening losing millions of dollars like the whole thing and uh i've been called a real one more times in my life and life and i say that laughingly like he was right which i give him his flowers you know it's hard for me to give my big brother flowers right sure um but it just goes back to this idea of like again this podcast and being able to push forward there's never a perfect. It's just, you just keep going because what are the options? Well, dude, let's, let's go
Starting point is 00:21:23 backwards, man. Let's talk about those moments. Yeah. You know, when you're, when you're living on your buddy's couch. Yeah. You know, and I said it, it was 100 calls a day. Mm-hmm. What was it? 90 hangups. Oh, yeah. Eight brief conversations and two yeses. For nine months with nothing to show for it. Nothing. How do you make that call on day 150? What are my options? When you have, when what I tell people when you're backed up against the wall, you have like, there's one way out. It's forward. Yeah, man. So, you know, it's funny, Grant and I have gotten really relatively close. He's like, I always force myself to be broke. Because when I'm broke, I don't, I have to go make more. And it's just same idea when you're backs against the wall. There's one way out. Yeah. And so, you know,
Starting point is 00:22:12 You talk about where I live and I've had people snicker and I've heard it like he should move. He's going through a rough year. He shouldn't live in Miami. You should live in Ohio and I know. I'll go fucking when is what I'll do. Go fucking figure it out. I will pick myself up off this mat and I will go figure it out and I will go win. And partly is because I know I have people around me I can lean on that will give me their hand.
Starting point is 00:22:36 I just made a post about this. People that have achieved more than you that have gone through the shit you've gone through and made it out that make more. more money that are more successful, they're not going to go snicker at you or talk shit about you or the first thing they're going to do is give you their hand. Like, let's go, baby. Come on. That's interesting because it reminded me a part of your story back in the beginning where you had a friend. Yeah. Invest $100,000 into you. Believe to me. And he gave me a loan, personal unsecured loan and I used it for coaching. For Ben, right? Was it for Ben? No, it was for Ben. Ben was more recent.
Starting point is 00:23:09 Okay. So this was for a fix and flip company. Okay. And you specifically. a quarter of that on that mentor. You had two phone calls with that mentor, and your business shifted a completely different question. What did he say? It's simple shit. It literally was like,
Starting point is 00:23:25 hey, if you want to get more deals, because right at the time, you got to remember this is 2007, 2008, right? I think 2008, when we invested in coaching, the bank still didn't know what they were doing with these short sales and the foreclosed.
Starting point is 00:23:39 So it wasn't just us not knowing how to run the business. There was also some fundamental stuff on the back in because everyone's like losing their home and, you know, loans were short sales. So like basically it was a fundamental way of how to get more deal flow or at least lead flow so that you could make more offers so you can get higher conversion. So it kind of goes back to even what you're saying, 100 calls, 92 of them laugh at you, you know, six of them spend a minute with you to get two actual conversations, right? Same idea in the business. It was like, well, you're not talking to enough people to make offers,
Starting point is 00:24:14 so you're not making enough offers, so you can't get enough deal flow, so you can't make any more money and you're currently making. And you go, oh, got it, right? And then you go, how many offers can I fucking make a day? So we just ratcheted up our offers. It got to a point where I had like a team of realtors
Starting point is 00:24:30 who were also going broke, right? Everyone in this, and like everyone needs to make sure there's 10 offers a day. I'm making 10 offers a day, you're gonna make it, you're gonna make, we need 10, so we're gonna have 100 offers a day going out every day, Monday through Saturday. I was like, I need to go six days a week, not five. You know, that's interesting because when you're talking about numbers and offers, it all breaks
Starting point is 00:24:52 down to KPIs. Yeah. So if you're never in corporate America or you're never in sales, you don't understand KPIs. Right. You need to know your numbers. You know your close ratio, but you also need the most important thing is you need to know how many calls is it take to get a meeting. Yeah. And then you break things down based on your close ratio and be like, okay, well, if I need to make 10 offers, then I need to make this many calls. People aren't dissecting that. They're going willy-nilly and just say, okay, well, I'm just going to dial and, you know,
Starting point is 00:25:19 I made 25 calls today. It was brutal. 25 calls ain't shit. Bro, I left UCLA. I went to UCLA, got my diploma, and I went directly into door knocking. Ooh, for what kind of happening? My family was excited.
Starting point is 00:25:33 So essentially it was like this farming company that taught you how to build your own business. So from college, I've never had a W-2. I've been in an entrepreneur my entire life. That's awesome. it's pretty cool but it also means i have to go through the eating shit a lot to figure it out but there was a metric that they taught us you knock a hundred doors a day every single day and you will have one sale and you will earn one hundred dollars it was a very easy metric now by the way we were
Starting point is 00:25:58 excited to make a hundred dollars a day back then this is 2003 hundred dollars a day doesn't pay for lunch no and i say that respectfully like i just ordered saturday we ordered um chick fillet Chick-Fle- Dude, keep going, man. This is ridiculous. I have two little kids, five and two. They're not big eaters. It's me and my wife. She weighs 105 pounds, right?
Starting point is 00:26:20 Like, she ain't eaten a lot. I ordered four chicken sandwiches, a chicken nugget in order of their French fries, and one diet Coke. $60. $84. Good God. You can't eat anything.
Starting point is 00:26:40 for basically less than $100. Now, you could, right? Like we could just go to Chipotle and spend $14, which now it's $14 is not like $7.99 anymore, whatever. So I say all this to say, because we're going on a tangent of cost of living, but the reality is going back to this is like, you have to be able to go win
Starting point is 00:27:03 and you have to fight your way through all this and you don't sacrifice on what you want ever because you're determined. because in my world, you do law number one first, decide what you want, and then you need to figure out who you need to be to get what you want. So for me, when I was broke, it was 100 calls a day to get two appointments. When I started the business and got coaching, two calls in, you go, I just need to make more offers and I'll get more deals.
Starting point is 00:27:28 Done. I need to make sure I'm making more offers, right? And that is the same thing all the time, door knocking, 100 doors, $100. like, okay, so let me go hit 200 doors to make $200. I need more money for the weekend. I want to go out and I want to have fun with my friends. It's a metric. A hundred doors, $100.
Starting point is 00:27:48 So go hit $300. You know, it's simple, right? But it's not easy for everybody to execute. Simple and not easy, man. I mean, it is the most simplistic saying, but it means so much. Most people quit way too soon. Do it honest. Let's be real.
Starting point is 00:28:07 Most people in your situation when you're making those hundred phone calls, they're gonna quit after two weeks. Done. Done. Maybe a week. You did it for nine months with zero return. You know, it's interesting when you have nothing to lose, you're the most dangerous person on the plane. I couldn't go further. Right?
Starting point is 00:28:28 Like I couldn't pay my cell phone bill. They took my car. I don't, you know what I mean? Like I'm literally eating because my friend will buy me a burger a day. gives me a bag of almonds every morning we go to Starbucks with like I will go to the end of the earth to figure this out so I go now most people don't feel that pain so when we talk about determination just to bring it kind of full circle to this podcast I don't think determination um is needed a lot of the time I think if you get yourself in a position if there's no option
Starting point is 00:29:01 you will achieve great things think about even Elon Musk and SpaceX how many times times did he almost have to go BK in that company? Dude. And he pushed himself to the brink so many times that like I think, I think the story is there was a moment where he had enough money for one more rocket. It was it. It was over. I'm all in.
Starting point is 00:29:26 Builds the rocket, spends the money, and it worked. So how many times before that did they all fail? Like you push yourself into a position that you have no option. I had to coach one time tell me, go get the Maserati. At the time, my car payment, I think, was $300. The Maserati was going to make it $900. Like, damn. Like, you're so quick to just tell me to go get it.
Starting point is 00:29:46 Like, okay? Like, is this good advice? What's going on, man? He was like, you know what's going to happen? Because who you are and how your childhood was? Because he knew my childhood. He was like, you're going to force yourself to go make three times more money. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:29:59 And I'm like, uh-huh, ha, ha. So I went and got the Maserati, partly just because I wanted it. And ended up making three times more money. Because when you put yourself in the business, you don't even have to be determined there's no other option yeah you are going to pay your bills or you are not figure it the fuck out and we all do by the way yeah i have a buddy who swears by the person who's the most busy in your company is the one you give more stuff to why because they are the ones that can figure out how to get it done and it's just it time and time again i find
Starting point is 00:30:36 this one thing to be true is if you put yourself in a position, you will figure it out. So would you say the people that aren't figuring it out, right? They're pushing for something and they just can't do it. They quit. They see too many road bumps and they're like, you know what? I'm going to go on the easier route. Do you think that's a lack of clarity of what they want? That's all it is. I agree. They just don't understand what they want. Yeah. And if even if they argue they do, they just don't want it bad enough. So, like, I go and speak on stages all the time in different, like, sectors, right? I'm known for real estate, but I've gotten to a place where now I'm, like, speaking to totally
Starting point is 00:31:22 like tax strategy conferences and asset protection conferences and all these different conferences. And what I tell them is people think they know what they want until they get it and then they realize that wasn't really what they want. So, for example, as a high-income earner, a lot of people, will buy larger homes. So I go on stage and I talk about this idea of like, hey, I think you're building your business wrong. And they're like, well, F you. I don't tell who do you know. And I say, great. So you're making a lot of money. Why? Oh, so I want financial freedom and I want
Starting point is 00:31:50 control and I want time freedom. And I'm like, no, those are all wrong answers. They kind of go, no, they're not. They're my answers. Don't tell me what's, see, here's why they're wrong. So you're making all this money. How big is your home? Oh, 6,000 square feet. Great. Good for you. So you're going to invite me over and I'm going to say how beautiful your home is, right? And you're going to show it off and you'll be super proud. And the next time you invite me over, I'm not going to mention your house because I've already seen your house. But I'm going to say, hey, dude, what's new with you? And you're going to say, I don't know, same old, same old.
Starting point is 00:32:21 But the dopamine hit of me complimenting you about how beautiful this house is and congratulating you is gone now. But you know what actually makes you happy is the fact that you have a big enough house to bring your entire family over to have your birthdays, Thanksgiving, Christmases. That's what makes you happy. happy so you're building your business thinking you want more you don't want more you want to be happy hard stop so us drivers us entrepreneurs the people that we have to reframe all this we have to understand what we want the only thing we should genuinely want is to be happy and that might be different for you than it is for me but it damn sure doesn't mean 6,000 to grow up a house makes us happy. What happens inside the house can, though.
Starting point is 00:33:09 So I would disagree with you on the fact that our happiness is probably different. I just want, I want to be my family. Okay, that's fair. What happens inside the, right, like you said, what happens inside the home. Yeah, that's fair. You know, whether it's 2,500 square foot, 6,000 square foot, 1,200 square foot, what is going on under that roof? Yeah. Are your kids thriving? Is your wife happy? So go back to what you asked me earlier. So then our struggle, I got to take the meeting.
Starting point is 00:33:37 I can't be at the, right? That's a fight. Now we're fighting that internally. Like, God, I want to be happy and I'm building this business and it's creating the thing I want, which is time, and to have a house that we can fit everyone in
Starting point is 00:33:50 and we're doing that. But then I got to take this meeting, right? So then we're back to this paradoxical thing. And so my point is, then you've got to refine even further. And by the way, there's no perfect to this. So I tell all the listeners right now, like, if you think I have it all,
Starting point is 00:34:05 figured out you are sadly mistaken that's right i'm i do not have this all figured out but i'm learning as i go because i want to go make as much money as humanly possible i'm not anti-money i'm very pro-money very pro-capitalism but how i build that has changed right and so i think for me and what i believe people should be building this business for and making this money and like being determined is good. I think you really need to refine happiness and clarity of what you want. And by the way, for me, it took 90 days to refine that answer. What was your process like to refine that answer? You're going to like this. Every day, seven days a week, I would go on my backyard and smoke a cigar in total quiet. I wouldn't bring a notepad. I wouldn't bring my phone. I would sit.
Starting point is 00:35:02 Because if you have kids, you know that is a very uncommon moment of just pure quiet. If you are married, you know it is a very uncommon moment. And if you're a business owner, a business owner, you know, like when you combine it, like never do we get that. No. So I force that nowadays. So I realized how powerful that was. So now I wake up at 4.30 in the morning because I want that hour still. Now I'm not trying to figure as much out today as I was then.
Starting point is 00:35:26 And you know what I did is I sat in quiet. I literally tried to turn my brain off. enjoy my cigar I would hear the we live in Miami you hear the birds and the nature and there would be a
Starting point is 00:35:39 iguana that runs across my Clusius and whatever and just and all of a sudden whether you believe in God or how like some answers just started coming
Starting point is 00:35:48 they just started coming yeah right and I'm not gonna you know I have my own relationship with God and I'm not going to go there because I just feel like people are playing into that
Starting point is 00:35:56 a little too much it just came it just came to me and whether I heard it, felt it, I just, I got clarity on how I wanted to rebuild again. This happened in 2024. We're talking two and a half years ago, right? Like guys and girls, like, you will go through these peaks and valleys and moments of crisis
Starting point is 00:36:17 and how do I figure it out? And that was my solution. It's every 90 days. My wife's like, God, like you just love cigar. Like she just diet Coke sometimes, right? Like coffee. Yeah. Right?
Starting point is 00:36:31 and just lean into it. And funny enough, if you give yourself enough runway, this goes back to my fifth wall, which is, you know, don't put a time expectation on the result you want.
Starting point is 00:36:42 The result I wanted was clarity. I just didn't know when I was going to get it. So every day, take my happy ass out there. At 4.30 in the morning. No, now those cigars were like midday. I was going to say,
Starting point is 00:36:53 because I was like, to be clear, are you smoking cigars at 4.30 in the morning? Like, holy shit. That's bold. Now it's mid, those were in midday. Now my,
Starting point is 00:37:01 my time for that quiet is in the morning. Yeah. Now, because I realize the power of it, I'm like, dude, I need more time because you can't give if your cup is empty, right? And so I'm like, I need to make sure I hit the gym every day. And if I try to do it at the afternoon or in the evenings, something's popping up, never happens, right?
Starting point is 00:37:18 So that's how I found the clarity. And I would tell everyone, regardless of your spirituality or health and wellness, like lean into getting you time, amazing thing happens when you turn off your brain. very hard for us by the way like the first couple weeks was not like an easy feat yeah that's what I was going to ask you
Starting point is 00:37:37 because I'm going through that journey right now of you know I'll get in the sauna after my lift and I'll turn on the app waking up and I'll meditate and like I'll close my eyes and like my brain's racing everywhere and it's just like I'm doing this wrong
Starting point is 00:37:54 I'm doing it completely fucking wrong and it's so hard at the beginning because you don't know how to silence your mind to the outside freaking noise or what you think you're supposed to want. Right. And so, you know, but the one thing I will say, even in those first couple weeks where it's really hard to do that, I was calmer. I started calming down a little bit and seeing things for what they actually were.
Starting point is 00:38:20 And then, you know, it was only a couple weeks ago. So I'm still in the middle of it, right? I'm still in that thing where, hey, Sean, you should probably get quiet with yourself because you're a powerful being. but you also need to hear yourself. And I think a lot of entrepreneurs and a lot of young people, it just doesn't matter, people in general.
Starting point is 00:38:40 Yeah. They allow the outside and the external factors to push them towards where they think they need to go. And if you don't sit with yourself and you're not quiet, you don't know what you really want because what you think everybody else wants you to want is not going to stick.
Starting point is 00:38:57 Amen. It's not you. You know, it's funny because I walk the line with what you said about the outside world. 99% of the outside world, I don't pay attention to. But, you know, I have the room and have you in it now. I'm super excited about having you. No, I'm excited, man.
Starting point is 00:39:14 That's going to be great. I curate a room so that I do have somewhere to go. That's different. So that you will have somewhere to go. Yeah, no, I love that. So the outside world on social media, they can kick rocks. Yes, they can, right? Just kick rocks.
Starting point is 00:39:26 But having groups that you can learn from, that you could be vulnerable with, like part of my requirement to get into the room is you have to be transparent. You have to be totally vulnerable. You have to tell us the shit that sucks because I might have a person right now that I say, here's the answer to your shitty situation.
Starting point is 00:39:43 And you just don't know because I don't know. Yeah. So if you don't open up, then I can't help, right? Does that make sense? No, it makes perfect sense. Like, I'm excited to do it because, like, I need somewhere to go with that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:53 Because my wife can't shoulder it at all. No. And she's been my only person. Like my boys, my team, they listen to me. me. Yeah. But also, and there's always going to be that. I mean, they're in the trenches with me. They're building this with me.
Starting point is 00:40:07 You know, but to have people that are so objective and like a 50,000 foot view can look down and say, hold on. Oh, clear. Dude. Super clear. You're right there. Do that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:40:20 You know, and it also is an added benefit because as a man, when you can speak up and feel heard and then another dude come and help you, you're like, bro, that's like a fucking gladiator moment. That's it. That's where you bond. Yeah. You know, I just think it's super useful. But yeah, to your point, rooms like that, the room.
Starting point is 00:40:41 Yeah, the room. That's why I called it the room. That's where you listen. Gives me shivers. I'm super excited about it. I love it. So it just launched. We just had our first call last night.
Starting point is 00:40:48 First meetings here in Miami. And we don't have to take the podcast, but like we'll be on a yacht. We're going to do real cool, healthy. I believe in four things. Family, relationships, well. wealth and health. So there'll be a health component to every single meeting, et cetera. So anyway, super excited about that. But where were we? We were talking about this stuff. Hold on. Don't. Don't. No, no, no, no, no, dude. No, dog, don't. Don't go yet. Because people need to hear this.
Starting point is 00:41:17 I have a show about determination and discipline. And up until December of 2024, I was 2225 pounds. And you've seen the pictures, well, and I was a fat mess, 32% body fat on a Texas scan. 185 now. I don't know what my Dexascan is going to really going to do it here in a couple weeks. It's in the teens. I'm going to say 12.9%. Holy hell. I would, I think more like 16.
Starting point is 00:41:39 Maybe. But if you're right, like, dude, we're going on that yacht. We're partying. That's it. You know? But the business in my interviews started to get better when I started taking care of that side of the street. Because I firmly believe people are stuck in their lives, sometimes for more than one reason. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:41:57 But typically it's the one thing that you think about constantly when you're still with yourself that bothers you so fucking much and then you can't fix. For me, it was my weight. The moment I fixed the health portion of myself took off. Yeah. And I'm still on that journey. I'm not done. I'm not even close to be. There's no finish line.
Starting point is 00:42:20 It's what I do every day. I'll make some introduction. I'm on a big health journey. I love it. And by the way, I would argue I'm not as concerned about. my food. I've always been lean, and I'm saying this respectfully, like, I just literally did a whole CT scan of my insides, which is unique.
Starting point is 00:42:38 So there's a company here, what's it called prenew or new, anyways, that does an MRI of your insides that will detect like cancer and tumors or whatever. But a CT scan is the only thing that can get your heart to see if you have plaque buildup. And that can give you the heart attack. Sure, of course. So I flew to Houston to do it. I'm happy to give you the company. Please.
Starting point is 00:43:00 But I'm on this big thing. So I did that. I did an MRI on my brain. So my whole thing is physically, externally, people are like, you're healthy. You work out four to five times a week. You're healthy. Yeah, but you have no idea what's going on inside, right? So I do blood panels every quarter.
Starting point is 00:43:16 I just did the CT scan. I pooped in a cup. I want to know what's going on my gut, my biomes, like in my alert, like all the things. Dude, I'm thankfully, I'm blood. Like the doctor's like, you're annoying. There's nothing wrong with you. There's nothing wrong with you. I can't fix you.
Starting point is 00:43:34 Yeah. I can't dig my claws into you. So I'm very blessed about that. But at the end of the day, I believe very heavily in longevity of life. So again, I keep talking about speaking only because I've been speaking a lot lately, but I went out, spoke in California to this group of about 200 very wealthy individuals. And I said, you guys are doing it wrong because you're caring more about the now versus the longevity of life. What are you guys doing with the money you're making right now that you're
Starting point is 00:44:02 investing it in a way that gives you the longevity of life you're wanting? Meaning medical advancements are only going to improve. So for us, men, peptides and testosterone and love it. I'm all like my whole counter is just flooded. Yeah. Yeah, dude. Now I have so much, like in the kitchen now I have all these pills I'm taking because whatever because I want my digestive system even better and I'm like tightening all the screws. So I tell these rich people, people like, you guys are doing it? Like, great, you're making a lot of money. But for what?
Starting point is 00:44:33 Which I circle back to happiness and decide what you want. But then at some point, I'm not going to want to keep going as hard as I'm going. I will never retire. I've told my wife, like, never think I'm going to just be the guy retired. It won't happen, not me. But I'll probably not want to do much. So I need my money to work a lot harder than I'm working. Because we're going to live to 100, dude.
Starting point is 00:44:54 Who's planning financially to live? Who is? And by the way, I'm literally talking a lot about this. And people say, I don't know. I throw some shit in stocks and I bought a short-term run. And like, inflation is going to crush us in 30 years. In 30 years, I'm 75 years old. I have no idea how much gas is going to cost.
Starting point is 00:45:17 $40 a gallon? Could you imagine? I mean, when I got my driver's license, it was 99 cents. Yeah, same. Yeah. And now it's basically $5. So what is that? 16 to 45, so we're talking 30 years.
Starting point is 00:45:33 So in 20 years, is it that crazy to think it's going to 5x, $25 a gallon? I don't think so. How the fuck are we going to afford anything in 25 years? And no one is planning for when they're actually not working, making money. They're so consumed with making money. They're not planning for when they can't make it or don't want to make it anymore. And so I come from, and this is my P.E. So I run a PE firm and we buy apartments.
Starting point is 00:45:58 So I put that hat on and start talking about like, guys, you need to be in things, investments that will pay you in a way that when you do actually want to stop earning the money, you can afford an amazing lifestyle. Not just like exist and not have to downsize into a small apartment because you can't afford your house in Pinecrest anymore. You can and you will. but people don't think about health and wealth and longevity. So I'm big in this health and longevity space because, brother, we're going to live to 100 and I'm going to have great, great grain children that I'm going to go take on Disney because I'm a vibrant 100 year old that's doing it and I can afford an $8,000 family trip.
Starting point is 00:46:43 People don't think that way. They're so consumed with the right now. And I'm trying to help, like part of my rhetoric for the last six months after going through my 2024 is this recalibration of it all. I was so consumed with making money now, making a lot of it. And I just lost track. My ego got in a big way. I was totally blinded by my ego.
Starting point is 00:47:05 And I lost track. I'm like, all right. If I'm rebuilding and I hear what I'm hearing and I'm getting this clarity, I'm doing it for the long term, baby. When you brought up ego, you know, is that the biggest cost your ego cost you right there? That right that, that, that, that, that is 24?
Starting point is 00:47:22 100% I had to be what I believe is God cut my head off for a reason he was like I got to this isn't about you dog yeah it's not and you made it about you that's the thing I love about spirituality because he knows man knows what he plans you for he knows what's in store for you it's like I got to cut his head off right now yeah in a big way because he because he won't get to where I need him to get to like that's his mission that's right your assignment and I was playing too small yeah I was just out of field. I was out of bounds. Like, he's like, bro, I know that you are this MVP of this assignment.
Starting point is 00:47:59 You're the guy. And you're over here playing with flowers. What? Right? So you just had to realign me. And unfortunately, my ego was so, and not big. And like, I was an asshole and a jerk. It could be at sometimes.
Starting point is 00:48:12 Can we all, man. But more just like, it was just not in alignment. And anyone who knows me knows me, I'm very emotional. like, but I'll cry. Me too. I'm a big cry. I'm not scared. I love it.
Starting point is 00:48:25 Right? Like giving, when I tell you the story about the big brother, so we were at this large event with a bunch of people and I'm, I got the mic, bro, and trying to give them flowers. And I'm like, and he finds like, all right, Justin, I got it. I got it. You know what I mean? Because it's just, it's an emotional moment for me, right? So I say all that just to say, like, God just saw this ego and I swear it was just like,
Starting point is 00:48:47 dude, you're so much better than whatever the hell you're trying to do right now because you're trying to look cool. You're trying to, go ahead. That's called fierce empathy, man. Yeah. That's what he is. So he definitely level set me. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:01 But again, you put me in a corner and I'll find a way. And by the way, I have. Yeah. We just talked privately about things I'm doing and like, I'm going. Yeah. And I'm going harder than I ever have, dude. And it's working. And I understand I have an uphill battle and all these things.
Starting point is 00:49:15 but like been done been there before yeah i just also think it to do with these uphill battles right like we're we're not necessarily in possession of the tools to get us through those moments or to excel through those moments but when we're in them we get them we earn them you know ed my let yeah everyone knows ed my let have you heard him speak uh no i've never been to anything he's so i've i've had the honor to i don't want to say it close to him but he he's close enough in this very small group of men. I've heard him speak a couple times, but he does talk about you are the most capable person to help yourself through the hard time. Yep. Because of the things that you have gone through. And that's exactly what you're saying. Is because of what I went through in 2007,
Starting point is 00:49:59 I know how to help myself. Yep. I was given that gift, which I can't say it was a gift at the time. I thought it was terrible. But now I understand what I can do and what I'm capable of. And so when I go through 2024, which is whatever that is 18 years later, whatever the math works out to be, it's like, I know what I got to do. And even though it's amplified, it's all relative. Right? It's all relative. It's like, okay, I may have lost more in 2024 than I did in 2007, but it's all relative, man.
Starting point is 00:50:27 And if I got through that, I can get through this. Amen. And it may not be the last time you go through something. Oh, by the way, it won't be. Hell no. No, it won't be the last time. So again, preparing myself. But now I can, even then, it's still like, okay, take it, learn, compress the ability to
Starting point is 00:50:44 make faults again in that same direction. But, you know, I heard the rocks say something great. They, they were asking them about, like, you're the guy, like, you're on the top of the mountain. What's next? What are you going to do next? It's like, I'm going to build more fucking mountain. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:51:00 Like, I got to keep going. Yeah. And so, like, when you get to these new levels and the cliches, new levels, new devils. Yeah. So when you don't know what's around the corner, to some extent, you're going to come up with getting punched in the face. Mm-hmm. but if you've insulated your ability and you can minimize the effect of that punch that's now where I'm at so like for me it's like how do I protect my downside I still want that meteoric just blaze right but now I'm like all right how do I protect my downside so I can live with the cost of getting it wrong does that make sense oh 100% and like the thing that you said that really resonated was I'm gonna build more fucking mountains yeah because I think a lot of people out there they have
Starting point is 00:51:43 have a goal. And once they get to that goal, that's it. I want to lose 15 pounds. Okay, well, you're going to find it again. Yeah, no doubt. What the fuck? Like, especially if it's fast. Yeah, like, you're going to find it quickly, right? And the thing is when people set goals in business or even, I talk to a lot of younger podcasters that want this. And I go, all right, so what's the goal? Yeah. And they tell me the goal, I go, that's your goal? what I'm going to tell you is, if that's your goal, you're going to fall short
Starting point is 00:52:17 because you need to be shooting for something else. And you need to understand that there's no finish line. A lot of people want that finish line. They want to know that they've arrived. I'm to that point. I don't have,
Starting point is 00:52:27 and I've made that mistake, and I'm like you, I teach from scars. Yeah. Not from theory. Like it is, this is what I've gone through and this is what I've studied
Starting point is 00:52:35 on myself, and this is what I know to be true. If I set a destination, now I can set a North Star of something I'm chasing. but I know that's not it. Because if I think that it is, and when you guys listening or watching,
Starting point is 00:52:50 think that is it, once you get there, you're going to be sadly mistaken because your only goal was to get there and you didn't love the work that got you there and you don't have freaking appreciate it. And you're toast, and you're starting all over. Yeah, what's the cliche about loving the journey,
Starting point is 00:53:06 not the destination? Yeah, I mean, there's a bunch of them, right? Love the process. Marry the process, divorce, the result. Like all those things. things like and they're cliches for a reason just just because they're so true true and so
Starting point is 00:53:19 and again I think there's chapters and seasons where everyone should be recreating themselves anyways you don't have to go through the pain you went through or I went through learn from us by the way give us a call glad to help you but you know I think we're all growing beings
Starting point is 00:53:35 and I think as we want more desire more going more and you sprinkle in a little spirituality in that like It's not always one size fits all. And, you know, getting clear on what you want will determine how hard you push, where you go, what you, you know. Yeah. I think it's important, too, to tell everybody as well, it's heavy.
Starting point is 00:53:56 It's big, it's heavy. It's heavy as fuck, man. Like, you know, they see things from the outside. They see your show. They see your, your private equity firm. You guys are buying apartments. Man, like you said earlier, overnight. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:10 Yeah. You know, I met somebody in, uh, you know, I met, I met somebody in, uh, the Bahamas. I've got a family. His name is Remy. His wife's name is Sandy. Amazing. Great kids.
Starting point is 00:54:19 Kaya and, um, and Xander. Amazing people. I met them at the pool of the first day. And I was just bullshitting with them. And I'm listening to him and everything he's been through. And like he owns an ambulance company now in, uh, in Los Angeles. And he's killing it. And he's such an amazing man.
Starting point is 00:54:37 Him and his wife both grew up in Egypt. Yeah. You know, and by the way, he left a family business. in Egypt. No, it's not. Yeah. And the grandfather founded the very first plastic toilet seat and never patent it because he wanted more people to be able to have it. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:54:54 And to prosper from it. But he made a shift and moved and went and did the Wall Street thing. And then he went to L.A. and now he owns his own company. And he told me this story because he asked me what I did. And I told him. So I got a podcast called The Determined Society. That's all I said. He goes, oh, awesome.
Starting point is 00:55:11 How long have you been doing it? I was like almost six years, you know. He's like, who have you interviewed? And I told him somebody's like, holy shit, no way. And I'm like, yeah. And I said, but I'm in that messy middle right now. You know, I'm, I'm in that hard part, right? That really, really hard part where you know you're close, but it just hasn't happened yet.
Starting point is 00:55:30 Yeah. And to the outside looking at a lot has happened. Yeah. But where I want to be, I'm nowhere close. And I do that on purpose, right? But he says to me, he's like, you know, he's like, do you know Tony Hinchcliff? I'm like, well, yeah, I know who he is. He goes, do you like him?
Starting point is 00:55:44 I go, I don't do it. I'm neutral. Like, I don't understand his comedy, but I know he's successful. He goes, bro, I was listening to him like 10 years ago. I said, wait a second. He's been around 10 years? I was like, he's been around 10 years. And for the audience hanging on to the story and this rant, I have a point.
Starting point is 00:56:04 I said, wait a second. I just learned about him two years ago. And if you knew him 10 years ago, he's been working for 12 to 14 years. that motherfucker stuck with it for 16 years, and he exploded. And now he's on Netflix and he's doing all these things. And people, including myself, go, huh, where did he come from? He's been in the dark working his ass off. Those are people that you latch on to and then you study them.
Starting point is 00:56:34 Yeah, that's right. Because that's important, man. And he told me that story. And I just looked at him. I said, thank you. He's like, what do you mean? I'm like, you just taught me something. It was like, what, I go, I got another, I got a 10 years, man.
Starting point is 00:56:46 Oh, yeah. Like, I got to think in terms of decades. And it helped me so much. And we had this amazing conversation. And we exchanged numbers. I get a text message next day. He goes, hey, man, full transparency. I pulled you up on YouTube.
Starting point is 00:57:04 And I was up until 3 a.m. watching your shows. And I smiled. And I'm, and he went on to say, you know, know, man, in a couple of years, I'm going to be able to say, I met this dude and his family on vacation. Yeah. He's like, everything you're talking about is resonating with me. This is, you're on to something.
Starting point is 00:57:24 Don't you freaking stop. Yeah. Those moments right there are, when you trust somebody and you know someone's successful, you validate, you like that external validation because they built something. Yeah. And the whole point of it is the overnight success is not a real thing. No. And people like you, people like me, people like Tony Hinchcliffe.
Starting point is 00:57:47 Yeah. Kevin Hart. Kevin Hart. Worked in silence for a very long time. That's it. And now there's this meteoric rise, but it wasn't overnight. That's right. It takes time.
Starting point is 00:57:57 Yeah. Look at the images of the rock when he has a fanny pack and all. Yeah. Well, now he's the rock. Yeah. He did wear a fanny pack, though. He did for sure. He did.
Starting point is 00:58:05 Now, which is weirdly in style again. I don't even know. I'm not wearing a fanny pack. I'm not either. I think I did in like seventh or eighth grade. I definitely. had the turtleneck look. Oh, hell yeah. Oh, in the mullet and the lines.
Starting point is 00:58:17 Oh, hell. Yeah, the vanilla ice shit. Oh, bro, that's the game. My seventh grade picture was horrendous. Let dude, black turtleneck with his vest in my chain hanging out. Mollet. Beautiful. Lines like, oh. It's Bay Area talk. Dude, hell yeah, man.
Starting point is 00:58:32 That's so fucking funny, dude. And funny enough, I'm looking down on your bracelets. My daughter makes those bracelets also. Yeah, so. Is it the one with a little thing? The fish tail, yeah, yeah, they do all that. So when I wear my watch, I move this one from here to here. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:58:50 But this is typically my youngest daughter's wrist, and this is my oldest daughter's wrist. So she made me both of these. Well, she got me this and she made me that. My daughter doesn't have the complex nature of that one yet. She does the more simple ones because she's five. Yeah. But bro, I can't even do the complex ones. I'm like, how do we figure this?
Starting point is 00:59:07 I can't even do one. The figure dexterity, like I cramp and stuff. I'm like, what the hell's going on with my mom? I can do this shit. Yeah. But dude, thank you so much, man. It's been so nice to meet you. Great to meet you as well.
Starting point is 00:59:17 You know, I got one last question. I know you have said in the show that you don't always have to have determination. But the fact of the matter is determination can mean so many different things. Sure. And different people, right? So for everything that you've gone through in your life, your falls, your rises and a fall again. And now, you know, you're on your way back up. You're crushing it.
Starting point is 00:59:39 What does true determination mean to justice? and Colby. Decide, commit, and take action. Daily. Daily. I mean, it's just, you need determination to get to where you want to go, but you first have to decide what you want. And then you got to commit to it.
Starting point is 00:59:58 And then you got to go all day, every day, now we go. Yeah, now we go. That's Ben Newman, baby. That's Ben Newman all day. What a good dude, man. What an incredible human. Dude, unrequired. How many days is he on now at this point?
Starting point is 01:00:13 Like 3,000? I don't even know. I remember when he was on the push to a thousand. It's wild. It's crazy. It's the craziest shit ever. That's a discipline. He's just such a solid, solid, solid human.
Starting point is 01:00:25 Yeah, he is. That's why he's so successful. That is. Because he gives a shit about people. Yeah. That's a lesson for everybody. That's it. When you actually care about it and care about the human, the results come.
Starting point is 01:00:36 Beautiful, man. Thank you again, brother. Of course. An amazing conversation. Anytime, dude. Anytime. For everybody watching. Thank you so much.
