how just factual he is this is my guy eric jackson he did a whole breakdown that kind of went a little bit viral yesterday and he spoke about how title uh was pretty much a finesse and i'm giving you the summary of the whole thing but you have to hear the whole story now let me remind you of how the story went jzy bought title 56 million dollars He supposedly gave every artist that came on stage with him about 12 of them, about 3% of the company. The company then got sold to, or not sold, they got invested in by Sprint for 200 million. The company was valued at 600 million, which would mean a 10x increase from what Jay Z had bought it from, which was 56 million. Now, it later got sold for like 300 million, so really, you know, it wasn't 600 a million.

The real valuation was half. It got sold for $300 million to Jack Dorsey, as I said, and Square. And Square, that's not Block. And he took the board seat. But people have been always wondering, because we see people who have fell out with Jay or called Jay out, whether it was Kanye West or we even seen Nicky Minaj. They've kind of no one's ever said, oh, yeah, we got whatever we were promised with this square or with this title deal, right? When I usually bring it up and I said Jay Z said that people should stop

watching or stop listening to music on Apple and also Spotify, they should listen to on title. He did the whole B-side performances basically said y'all like supporting the white man, support me. I'm the black man who's getting to the streaming space. The idea was that that title was for the artist, by the artist, and if you

cared about the artist and art and black art, you support title. Now, subsequently, he sold it as soon as he could. When I've criticized that move saying, hey, that's kind of snakeish because you got everyone to buy in saying that this is going to be for us right this is some black people shit and then you sold it as soon as you got a chance to be on a white company's board of directions you know what people said and even charlemagne even said it during our conversation he said well why do people get companies they get them to sell them and you know once

again they move the goalpost they just flip the script you know j z gets to sucker everyone in with this is for us and then basically sells it sells it straight on some capital this shit and people just praise him because he's a billionaire. Anyway, I guess the bigger story here is well, what is the details of the sale and who did the benefit, right? Because on paper and on face value,

you would think everybody who was on that stage really profited from it. But Nikki Minaj has said otherwise, and Kanye, I haven't heard him say too much about it, but we've had no one really testify to say, oh, no, like, Jay really got us a bag. So here's the breakdown right now, and we're going to play my man, Eric Jackson.

You guys can follow him on Twitter, also on YouTube. He does a really phenomenal job every day of breaking down. A lot of financial filings that have to do with record labels or even these things, which is DSP. And he not only covers hip-hop, but he has an incentive to cover hip-hop because we have used him before. Here we go. Everyone remembers the headline. Jack Dorsey bought Jay-Z's title for $297 million. $2. Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye, Nikki, all co-owners, all getting paid. And here's what the SEC filing says the buyer actually paid, $233 million for 86.8% of the company,

which means the whole thing, the platform 16 superstars stood on stage to launch was actually worth $269 million that day, which was less than half of what it was worth four years before. Nikki Minaj says she was offered a million to go away. Steve Stout said she left millions on the table because she never signed her paperwork. And for 10 years, everyone has been arguing about who got scammed and who has been doing it without, they've been doing this without opening one set of documents that would show the actual results, the filings. So this story is actually stranger than anything you've already heard about it. And I went and read the filings. This is day 341.

There were three SEC filings, one federal court motion and the principal's own posts. and everything that I'm about to talk about on this video is all public record knowledge. March 30th, 2015, the famous stage, there were 16 artists standing shoulder to shoulder as owners, Beyonce, Rihanna, Kanye, Madonna, Nikki, Jay Cole, Jack White, Daft, Pump. The list goes on. The reporting that week, and it traces back to one Billboard story, said that each act was gifted about 3% of title in exchange for pledging exclusive content. Now look at the sourcing there. One outlet launch week, unnamed sources, no principle, no document has ever confirmed that there was 3% given to the artists.

The thing that they signed on stage, which has been published. Okay, this is very important. And we got to slow it down because this is where, you know, headlines tried to tell the story, but the paperwork say differently. So when we heard that the artist got like this 3% number, did they sign something that gave them the piece of the company? And that's what he's explaining. He's saying, that's not exactly true. Billboard ran the story.

About 3% of title in exchange for pledging exclusive content. Now look at the sourcing there. One outlet, launch week, unnamed sources, no principle, no document has ever confirmed that there was 3% given to the. artists. The thing that they signed on stage, which has been published, is a declaration. And I've read it. It's a manifesto, not an equity contract. Whatever equity paper existed behind it has never been public. So there were 10 years of arguments, and the foundational document of the argument has never been seen. Then in 2017, January of 2017, Sprint, bought 33% of title for $200 million.

That's a real reported transaction, and it did two things. It priced the whole company around $600 million, which was the high watermark for it, and it diluted everybody. So if you had a 3% stake, if it existed, as reported, it became roughly 2% after that investment. Nobody renegotiated the legend, though. The legend stayed that, quote, the artist's own 3%. Now the part that you came for in March of 2021, Square, which is Jack Dorsey's company, it's now called Block.

It announced it was buying the majority of title, and the press release said, for $297 million. Every headline said that. Some said $302 million. And then a year later, Block filed this annual report with the SEC, which is the 10K and the accountants don't do vibes. The filed number was $233.2 million for 86.8% of the company. $223 million in cash, $10 million in stock. It implies the rough value for a title was $269 million at the time, not $600 million. It quietly tells you that title's value fell by more than half between 2017 and 2021. While the public story. Okay.

So once again, title, it, while it was, I will call it innovated to some extent because it was helped define what the streaming error was going to be. It wasn't a really profitable business, even though the value ballooned. But it ballooned because of different reasons. the market was expanded. So because you had an entity that was involved in streaming, it was worth more, but it wasn't making money. Characterized it as a victory lap for Jay-Z. And one more thing that the filing says, and it kills a whole branch of the meme tree,

the artists were not bought out. The press release says it plainly. All of titles artists shareholders continue as co-owners, and the 10K carries them as minority interests, unnamed, aggregated. with exactly one artist who's named anywhere in the filing, Sean Carter, elected to Square's board in May of 2021. A seat on the board of a payments company worth tens of billions given to a man with no conventional payments background, no fintech background. So read that for what it is. Part of what the deal delivered was the Carter name.

Everyone else is a line item called, quote, non-controlling interest. Okay. Now, I'm not sure if you guys caught that. When they buy title, they don't liquidate the artist. Right? They didn't liquidate the artist, which means, so they said the artist continue on. So they diluted their interest in title, but they didn't pay them out. The only person who gets some type of liquid, right, is the person who owned like 87% of it, which was Jay-Z.

Right? So Jay-Z gets paid, right? and he gets a board seat. But the actual artist, all they have is this, I won't call it as fictitious, but this equity that they don't get paid out for. Only Jay gets paid. Everybody else continues to be shareholders, right?

Now, I know you're like, well, they can sell it any time. The story's not done. Sitting behind an option, blocks option, not theirs, to be bought out at fair value someday. So read that structure for what it is. They can't force a sale. They can't force a price and they just have to wait.

So now you go back to that stage. The word that day that they talked about was ownership. Artists finally owning the thing that they built instead of renting it from labels. So put the two documents side by side and what they announced in 2015 and what the filing says they got. 16 owners became one board member and 15 line items. I'm not going to tell you what anyone intended, but I am going to tell you that the ownership that they announced that day and the ownership the SEC filing describes are not the same kind of ownership.

The revolution was real on the stage. It just wasn't in the actual paperwork that came later when the deal was done. Okay. So according to SEC files from this guy that he viewed, the ownership that these artists had weren't paperwork ownership that had to be either divulged or had to be accounted for

when they filed these SEC files when you sell a company or whatever like it's going to happen right and also there was a publicly traded remember it gets absorbed by Square at the time that's a publicly traded company so everything is public The filings doesn't show that these artists own shit, except Jay-Z.

This is a good for that, huh? And what has fair value done since? Block's own filings answer that too. In late 2023, Block wrote down 132.3 million of title Goodwill. In late 24, another 73.5 million was written down. That's roughly $206 million in value impaired, according to the company's own accounts. in two years. Yeah.

So essentially the artists who are owners that went on that stage, they own about 2% of title still, except title is now absorbed by square, which is now a block, and there's a clause that says, we don't have to pay you more than what's called fair value, fair market value, right? and we could force you out as owners at some point. Here's the problem. Square or Block, they keep using Title as a way to write off losses for the company. So they claim in two years, Title lost them $200 million.

So now, what they're basically doing is devaluing the company to the point that is going to be seeing that this company is worth nothing. Now, if you have 2% of a million dollars, that's some good shit. If you have 2% of zero, you're fucked. So the remaining artist stakes are minority positions without exit rights in an asset that their majority owner has been writing down. That's not a scandal. Nobody did anything illegal here.

it's just what minority equity without an exit mechanism is. A promise whose face values someone else's timing determines. So take a step back now and ask the question that the whole valuation begs. Was title ever worth what that stage suggested it was worth? Look at the scale. When Square bought it in early 21, Spotify had between 155 and 180 million paying subscribers. Apple Music, the last time it gave a number officially, had 60, million. That was in 2019. Title claimed $3 million at its peak back in 2016, and then it stopped

disclosing a number at all. And independent analysts put the real figure back then closer to $1 million. So the platform 16 superstars launched to fight the Giants was, at its best, 20 to 50 times smaller than the Giants. And it lost money every year anyone measured it. Its parent posted a $28 million net loss in 2015 alone, burning about $2 million a month with cash down to $4 million. Operating losses of 36.7 million in 2018, 55.3 million in 2019. So here's the part you can't make up, though, and it's not my characterization. When a court later threw out a lawsuit brought over this very deal, the judge's own description of what Square bought was a company that was losing money

that had lost major contracts that faced a criminal probe in Norway over its streaming numbers. One, authorities later dropped. By the way, interesting enough, we keep hearing certain narratives, of bots this and third. Tidal was actually in a criminal investigation for manipulation of numbers in Batten. And I believe that was, they were investigating the headquarters because that was in Sweden. And then, and also a company that had taken a $50 million loan from Jay-Z himself just to stay afloat. The judge called the purchase a quote, terrible business decision. That is a federal court saying that on the record. So read the 21 sale for what the documents say it was.

This was the top of the market. Remember, this was the time of zero interest rates. Every catalog on earth was selling for a fortune, Dylan, Neil Young and Stevie Nex, all cashing out at the exact top. And at the exact top, this asset sold for half what the smart money paid for it in 2017. And it needed a lifeline from its own founder just to get to the finish line. So that's not a victory lap. Structurally, it looks a lot more like a rescue to me. Now, the claim from my comments, quote, the artist equity was recoupable.

Jay-Z could claw it back. It was really an advantage or sorry, an advance against their catalogs, end quote. I went looking for the source of that quote, and there is none that I could find anyway. No filing, no reporting. Nothing credible describes owner equity as recoupable. And the SEC accounting treats the stakes as real equity,

cuts directly against it. But here is the interesting part. The myth has a real ancestor. There was a documented recoupable advance in the title story. It was Prince's catalog deal, a distribution agreement that ran until the advance recouped. It was a standard structure negotiated by Prince himself, who chose title loudly and publicly while he was still alive. After his death, his estate and title ended up in federal court, and the estate's lawyers wrote a sentence that you rarely see in a filing. They alleged that the equity term sheet title produced was, quote, fabricated and backdated to appear authentic.

Title denied it. The case settled in 2018, approved by the probate court, and the fabrication claim was never proven or disproven. So I'm not going to tell you who was right. I'm telling you that there was one documented recoupable advance belonging to the prince's deal and a never adjudicated fight over Prince's equity is how, quote, recoupable leaked into the folklore about everyone else's.

And notice who was not on the stage at all, Drake, the defining artist of the streaming decade, biggest artist at the time, and by reports, he was supposed to be up there with them on that stage with the other title artists. He wasn't not. And a few months later, he went the other way entirely, an exclusive deal with Apple Music put together by an executive name. named Larry Jackson, who's now the head of gamma. I'm not going to tell you the terms because those weren't ever made public.

But if you look at where the two roads led, you can see that the artists who stood there as owners got minority paper behind someone else's option. Drake never took the pitch, kept his own lane, and by any measure, it worked out for him. The biggest artist of the era, some would say still today, looked at the ownership offer and passed. Which brings us to Nikki because her posts are primary sources and the math is checkable on them. She says she was offered a million dollars and told that she had 24 hours to sign. Now, this is the interesting part.

Supposedly the scandal lies here. Remember, these guys sign like a declaration, not real equity paperwork, all these artists. basically j z's trying to flip and finesse this this company into whatever you heard what he said a federal judge when addressing the sale of title to square calls it a horrible business decision they basically said that square bailed out bailed out title in reality it was clear to see that j z was wanted by jack dorsey because they felt Jay-Z had this, you know, this power over black people, clearly. You know, like, oh, we need Jay-Z on our team. We'll bail out his failing business, right?

So all of those things happening, what happens is that after the thing gets sold for 300 million, supposedly they go to all the artists that signed the declaration and said, hey, listen, we could give y'all a million dollars or whatever the amount was. So they have them sign something late, right? And you're going to hear this later because I remember Steve South said, no, Nikki could have got paid. She just didn't sign the documents. Well, I thought she signed on stage.

Why would she need to sign something else unless what she signed on stage wasn't some real shit? So that's the finesse here, right? They use the artist. They basically get it sold. twice, 33%, 200 million sprint, then 300 million from square. That's 500 million, that's half a billion dollars. That becomes in purchasable, you know, cash that was used to purchase the company, right? Sprint and then whatever.

And the artist, when the company who eventually buys it wants to fully own it, right? they're offered a million dollars to get out of their position or to be whole or whatever the case is, right? Even though technically it seems like they basically didn't have a position at all because there was no way to liquidate it. So they get offered, take a million dollars, take it or leave it. Stout says that she never signed the paperwork and left millions on the table. But notice something here.

Those stories aren't actually incompatible. An unperfected stake, equity promised but never papered, is exactly the kind of position that produces a discounted, take it or leave it offer when the company sells. And her bigger number, the $100 million to $200 million, she's called a karmic debt, run every valuation that has ever existed against a 3% stake, $9 million at the press price, $8 million at the filed price, $5 million to $6 million after dilution, $18 million at the absolute sprint round. peak. There is no arithmetic path to get to $100 million. Her own word for it, Karmic, is honest. It's a moral number, not a mechanical one. The mechanical number, at its best moment in history, was $18 million. And by the way, the one deal decision of hers that is documented in 2009 press release is that she kept all her 360 rights touring merch endorsements when she signed. owned 3% at best, even though they said when, so the company was worth 600 million at a point, but that should have diluted their equity if they did have it to 2%, not 3, but let's say it was 3%, 3% of the new valuation of 600 million would have made like 18 million. So if they had sold back then, given that there was real equity, not this like promise of equity, she could have like gotten 18 million but there's no exit strategy so who would she have sold that too she would have so have to sell it to um it title wasn't public so she would have had to sell it most likely to someone that was approved by sprint and sprint already bought what they wanted so why would they buy from niki right like yeah why would they liquidate niki when there

if you liquidate niki and she's out of the company the company's worth less so you want to keep her in. As an artist, the woman knew how to protect a position, which makes the title Paperwork Story, whichever version that you believe, the exception that proves the discipline. So here's what that means for you, the takeaway. And it's basically one sentence with three clauses.

Equity you cannot exit is not money. That's basically all it is. So these artists got equity with no exit plan. Jay-Z had a exit plan for himself because he eventually sold to Square and then became on the board but for the artists because of their worth to the company

because it was branded as the artist is in the company if you heard that all the artists were liquidating and left the company the company would basically belly up because now the artists are no longer standing with the company you never signed is not equity, and a press release is not a filing. Every one of those 16 people on that stage with Title in 2015 was worth more than the thing that they were celebrating. And the ones who treated the stakes as a marketing moment rather than a position, which structurally is what it was, read it correctly. When someone offers you ownership in anything, a startup, a small

business, your cousin's venture, you need to ask three questions that this episode just taught you. what exactly do I own? What forces anyone to ever buy it from me? And where is it written down? If the answers are vague, you were not given ownership. You were given a photo op. So the story here is 10 years of shouting, and the answer was sitting in something called a 10K.

So she went on to basically say, she posted at your house, you weirdo, and then on the day of the murder, they continued talking to each other. They talked about seeing each other. He sent an Uber. David said to her, are you coming at nine or is it too early or late for you? Celeste said, I said I can go whenever. David basically leaned forward and stared at the screen. While these messages were going on, David was locked him. Now, after that, Celeste said, What you mean, leave at nine or get there at nine? David said, leave at nine. Celeste said, actually, yeah, or I can be in Riverside for it too, if you want.

She went on to say, by the way, is it chill if you get the Uber for me at 830? I'll be back in Lake Elsinore. It's hard to get Uber's there. And then later on, David said, so get it to your house or down the street or something. And Celeste said, let me check. She sent him an address that I won't read to you. And she basically, David went on to say, why do I have to show you everything I get?

And so I said, um, because you had your, your, your, she didn't say this. I don't want to say it. I got to be careful what I say. But she basically, to the effect, said, he said, why do I have to show you everything I get? And Celeste said basically because you, you made me, uh, I was expecting because of you at some point. All right. So, um, after that, now this is. That kind of confirms that he did get a pregnant.

Interesting. Celest kept calling David like queen and girl. And I think she was trolling him. And I think she, Loki was that bullying him, like, you know what I'm saying? And then basically they went back and forth. David's saying four minutes, one minute, okay, he's there. And she's saying, okay, and then while she's in the car, as we heard before, basically, she was, so she was calling him Queen. Then she said girly pop. She was calling him girly pop, which was hilarious. She said, girly pop, I'm almost at your door if you're home. He replied, got you, gate open, door unlocked.

He didn't say, I'm going to open the door. He said, gate open door unlocked. Now that's something that the defense were trying to rely on later, basically saying, like, oh, you know, he didn't say he was there. He didn't even say that he was there. Like, you know, he was there. He didn't even say that he was there. And it's like, gate open door unlocked, like, bro, come on, he was there.

And the cell tower suggested that he was in the vicinity of his own home. This is when the alleged lies begun. So this is when David basically said around 10.31 p.m. And here's the thing. She arrived to the car at 10. Sorry, she arrived to his house allegedly at 10.10. And that's when David said gate open door unlocked. All right.

When she said, I'm almost here seven minutes before that. And then at 1033, all right, David says, Uber said you'll hear where you're at. Hello. Bro, Celeste. And after that last message from Celeste, where she said, this is so sad. But the last thing she ever sent was Girlie Pop, I'm almost at your door open if you're home. She never sends a message ever again in history. The girl never, she never, ever sends any message. That's the last message she ever sent in her whole life. All right. And you want to believe that because David's going, where are you at? Hello, bro, Celeste, where are you at? And then she's apparently like, this is like 1033, 1036. And then

there's no messages from Celeste ever after 11 p.m. And then basically, David then messages her at like half 11, says, bro, blocking me. Hello? Bro, I'm going to call you, bro. You're scaring me. He was lying. So, allegedly. So then by... It sounds like he'd killed her already, but he was trying to, like,

kind of like stage the messages that, oh, no, maybe she left and she was mad. And I was trying to get up with her, but I didn't... I don't know where she went. 1141, he's saying, dude, what the F, where are you, please? And then he never texts her ever again. She never sends a text ever again after that. It's over with at this point. It's completely overwith at this point.

So basically the detective made it clear. He reviewed the Uber records. The victim did arrive at the property at 10.10 p.m. And then at 11.30 p.m. And bear in mind, he's texting while this is going on. But 11.30 p.m., his cell phone and his Tesla begin moving north towards Santa Barbara. So interestingly enough, okay, they revealed something that we already know, but this was all while David was planning the rollout for his album, Withered, which obviously is just a ridiculous name, considering what ended up happening. Now, it could have been a coincidence or it could have indicated some premeditation.

I'm not entirely sure, but at the end of the day, he basically had a bunch of album stuff to deal with after that. Funnily enough, actually, he had been at a meeting with Interscope that day about his album rollout. Now, we ended up seeing all of these locations in his Tesla infotainment. He drove up to Santa Barbara, all of that kind of stuff. And this is where the cross-examination took place. So Blair took the stand, sorry, not to the stand, but Blair took the podium and begun continuing to question this detective who was continuing on from the previous day's testimony. And she basically got to blaming Celeste, painting David as a victim, painting David as somehow

kind of like being a victim in all this. I'm going to get to it, but she painted out David to be such a bitch, and that David was basically like a victim in all this. and like he did what he's supposed to do kind of vibe that she was giving and blame the family. So the first thing that Blair Burke said was basically the first contact with David and Celeste on I message was August 2020, right? So that was confirmed. She said that was online text messaging, right?

When did they first meet in person? They said they first met in person in November 2023, right? They said first communication with Celeste, what was the first message? So apparently the first message, within the first couple of messages that David and Celeste actually shared, Celeste asked David his age. And apparently he said 18. Now, this is what's crazy. Okay?

And I would say that Beth Silverman looked a little bit flustered and a little bit like just a little bit pissed off at this light. Just this general line of questioning, I was pissed off too because I feel like the line that you could see the avenues they were going down and it was not pretty, it was not cool. So after that, all right, basically there was kind of a back and forth and Beth objected and said these are like random eye messages. These aren't the extraction from Cellbrite. and then Blair was basically telling the detective,

didn't you review these messages? And he was like, I can't really remember. I've reviewed so many messages. He could only remember the ones that the prosecution were put in front of him. For a moment, it almost looked a little bit like,

okay, this is going to be a W in his favor. But then it's like, the detective kind of was just locked in and started answering the questions. And it was like, cool. These are I message from David's... Look, these are the cellbrite... It was unclear to me,

but basically there was a whole back and forth about where the detective was basically like, we got all these messages from a cellbrite extraction. I can't remember all of them. If you're asking me about specific ones, you're going to have to show me. And then Blair basically produced a bunch of messages that were apparently sympathetic towards David, that she then showed the detective one by one.

And Beth made sure to kind of oversee that and make sure what was being shown was legit. But anyway, once we moved on to that, okay, they said in the first message between David and Celeste, where Celeste asked David his age, they said, David told Celeste he was 17. And the detective was like, well, I don't remember. He might have. They said, well, you admitted Friday that when they first spoke, he was 17. team. So the first thing they were going for was like this thing that like he was a he was a minor too. I'm going to lean up against this. I think it'll be more comfortable. You just jump in there. Thank you. So like this idea that like, oh, he was a minor two.

That was sort of where they were, how they were framing it to begin with. To say when they first spoke, he was 172. After that, they basically talked about their birthdays. They kind of went back and forth about all the details. They identified David's birthday. It was weird. I don't know if this was a mistake, but I'm pretty sure they said David's birthday was March the 5th, 2005 and I thought I read on Google it was March the 28th. Maybe Google's wrong. I'm more inclined to believe his lawyer or maybe she misspoke. But anyway, they said, fair to say, out of hundreds of messages you reviewed, you focused on their ages, right? Because when the previous testimony was being given, we constantly heard Beth Silverman pausing and saying, and just remind us,

how old was Celeste and David during these messages? And it was always, she's 13, he's 18, over and over and over and over and over again, okay? So from there, basically they said, you looked at tens, hundreds, thousands of messages, hundreds of thousands of messages, and you focused in what was said. So they said, on the first message they ever spoke, David told Celeste he was 17, and what did Celeste reply? And this was a bit of a bombshell. David said he was 17, Celeste said, I'm 16.

Now, Beth objected to that. There was a little bit of tension. Blair had to rephrase the same question, but she got the same answer, yes. Okay. So when they first spoke, admittedly, all right, and this worked in David's favor. David was 17, and Celeste had said she was 16. Now, they claimed that over the... Now, after that, okay, Blair would introduce various messages that actually came from the 22nd of April, 2025, the day before the alleged murder. So basically, she kind of established when they first started talking they were both minors. All right, fine. And that she had lied about her age. Okay, fine. Doesn't change the fact this is a statutory offence. She could say she's 80 years old. It doesn't matter because if you abused her and you did the business, you are a criminal.

There is no... I thought that it doesn't need malice or intent from what I understand for these charges. But anyway, from there, okay, Beth, sorry, Blair Burke will introduce a bunch of messages that were apparently sent either the, basically the day before they ended up meeting up. And this was pretty crazy, okay? They reviewed that same message that we'd already heard from the prosecution where Celeste said, oh my God, I'll kill you, I'll strangle you to death, I'll tell my dad so many lies, I'll injure your career, life and damage you.

Now, this is what was very, very interesting. So after that, I can't actually tell you this message. She said, I will straight up mutilate something of David's that's very sensitive. That's what I'm going to say. So basically, David replied, he said, you've turned this into a bigger thing than this conversation. And now, I'm not going to lie to you, it wasn't really even brought attention to, but that sentence was very ominous to me. And I felt like that was the message where he decided to kill her.

That's just my opinion, right? Allegedly. But David replied when she said she would mutilate part of him. David said, you've turned this into a bigger thing than this conversation. What bigger thing? What? Murder? Violence. I think that's when he decided. But you guys be the judge of that. And obviously, the jury will really be the judge of that as well as the judge. But anyway, I digress.

David says, this is how it goes with you. You have to find out after the fact that you do not listen to me. That didn't really make sense to me. But anyway, Celeste replied, said, nah, I don't even play like that. I'll dead go to Val's door on some crazy shit, knocking and crying. Now, anyway, I'll just move on from there, okay? You can do your own research. And then Blair basically went on to say there were 1,200 messages that were sent between Celeste and David on the two days before the murder.

David basically said, why do you think... 1,200 is crazy. Why do you think you proved my exact point? Celeste said you have one more chance to tell me the truth. She said, tell me the truth, David. I need to see you tonight. Tell me the truth. Now, bear in mind the context of this all started.

they're talking about Asia. So I don't know if this was other girls, if it's specifically about Asia. I don't know what was going on with that. But basically, it was like, you need to tell me the truth. You need to tell me what's going on. Now, a little bit of time passes.

David said, uh, um, um, so, okay, David said, how are you going to feel distant?

You, how are you going to say you feel distant? You push me away from the start of the year. So I said, if I see you and Asia hanging out, I'll make an anonymous account, leaking all of the stuff I have on you. Again,

Ah, so it was kind of crossing over into blackmail a bit. Hmm. Now, granted, obviously, there's just so much wrong. We're not also condoning that either, right? Like, you know, a chick blackmailing you. But, again, you shouldn't even be dating her, right? Like, you know, obviously, if I'm talking about blackmail, I'm talking about if you're dating an actual woman who is not on their age.

But, like, say you had a secret if a woman or a man is going to blackmail you, that's not cool. But again, David knew the bet he made. He's dating a minor. He's doing things that are highly illegal. And he's doing that. And then playing with this person that they get emotional. And they're probably figuring out like, well, what the fuck could I do to get him back? Doesn't mean she deserved to die.

But she was cooking him. She was ready to expose him. She made it very clear. Just because someone's going to expose you for being a PDF related file, you don't have a write-to-to-exhares. kill them. That's no self-defense. This just provided a motive. And I think, I personally feel like accidentally Blair Burke actually provided a lot of ammunition and motive. Because realistically reading that, it's kind of like, well, it sounds like she gave, not she gave him no choice,

but as far as he was thinking about it, from the perspective of someone willing to murder to protect their career and finances. Like, she had taken it there, so he was willing to take it there. Anyway, um, she basically, Celeste continued threatening. It was crazy. She said, I still don't think he was fully premeditated. I'll give you my theory. And remember, my theory is just thinking about just like this is crime. I get it. She's on her age and we want to be sensitive.

That's my disclaimer. But if you had planned to kill her, why invite her to your house? You know at some point she's going to be missing and they're going to go search your house. Hear what I'm trying to say. Why not kill her somewhere else? You know what I'm saying? or maybe he thought he could have enough privacy in his house.

Also, I don't know, the wounds that she got that, I believe, is the fatal wounds, which is the cuts and the stabs. You know, stabbing to me always comes across as in the moment heat of passion, like, you know, like an emotional reaction, a violent one that is clearly, rather than, oh, this is what I plan to do. Do you get what I'm saying? So I'm thinking they're beefing, they're arguing, she comes over. You know, she's probably a little slick with the mouth paws.

And she's probably saying, yo, listen, I'm going to ruin you. Your career is done. You're not going on tour. You're not selling another album. They're going to call you a creep. You're fucking da-da-da. And I'm pretty sure they get into it. And somehow it gets there.

But I could be wrong, too, because even then, if you're arguing with your girl like who thinks about going to get a knife to stab him that's weird so no maybe it's premeditated so i don't want to rule that out but i was thinking that maybe it wasn't but nothing of this situation makes sense said and i have all the old numbers from my phone printed out including your mom so i can contact her if anything oh no sorry i can contact her anytime lull david said okay with a laughing emoji and then she went on to say i also have some of you somebody's fiance on my phone so I could text her it will spread to your work girl. I don't know who that was. Well, I heard the name. It wasn't a name I'd ever heard before. I'm not going to say whom, but yeah. So Celeste said she had spread to your work girl.

So really it sounds like she had connections and phone numbers and contacts to the people involved in his career. So basically, apparently there were threats. Constantly back and forth, Blair basically said there were hundreds and thousands of texts between them, a lot of threats, a whole bunch of Celeste basically making threats. And Blair basically pointed out, out of the hundreds and the thousands of texts, did Celeste ever say specifically about participating in a criminal prosecution? And the detective admitted she never talked about testifying or taking it to the cops. She just talked about taking it public. Now, we found out at the end when the judge made the ruling, that doesn't fricking matter. Doesn't matter.

It doesn't have to be taken it to the cops. It can just be, I'm going to expose you. That was enough for the special circumstances. The cops would have liked her to be a witness, but it doesn't mean that they need an investigation or for her to willingly be saying, I'm going to test. Okay, so part of the special circumstances is, like, witness tampering.

Obviously, you killed the witness, you know, but they're looking at that for if they were going to prosecute him on, on child sex charges, she would have been a potential witness and he ended up killing her so that's why he caught those charges and the judge is saying yeah even if she didn't specifically say

she was going to go to the cops clearly her saying she wanted to go public she was down to be a witness find this upcoming trial that hasn't happened yet okay so that didn't help that was one of the many straws they can continue to clutch out so after that

basically like Blair said, just reiterated, like, she threatened to kill him, to call his mom to leak stuff, threaten him, but she never once mentioned going to the police. Now, the last, the last threat apparently came, I don't think there's a threat, but anyway, David has said, I know you ended the, David basically said, I know you ended the friendship like 10 times. And then David said, um, when are you coming to mine? Um, are you going to want food?

I'm going to be hungry at the end of the day. She says, sure, what kind girl? So she's still roasting him, calling him girl and shit, which is quite funny. She's like,

yeah, what time girl? What kind of girl? What kind of food? Um, and David said in and out and she said, Kay.

Um, and they tried to present this like, look, he wouldn't murder her. He offered her in and out. Who, you couldn't possibly give someone an in and out to, uh,

you know, entice them into a sense of security and then murder them. Surely not, right? That was absurd. Like, the idea that, like, look, come on, man. Like, if I'm going to go and catch your body, if as long as I buy someone in and out beforehand,

I guess that's just fine. That's just fair play, is it? That was ridiculous. But from there, Blair basically went on to say, this is where she started putting the blame on the family, and I really didn't like this. And to be honest, this made me think, oh, okay, so that message that was going around yesterday

that was supposedly from a neighbor, that probably had been leaked out there with coordination from the defense, because suddenly a lot of things in that neighbor's message matched up with things that Blair was saying that nobody should have known about. And I'm still skeptical. A lot of people are going to be coming out of this hearing saying, oh, see, the family knew the family were in on it. I still think what they said about the family was very flimsy. I'm going to tell you why. I'll tell you what they said, and then I'll tell you why I think it's BS. Blair basically asked the detectives, David was known to

Celeste family, right? He said, yeah. I said, after the missing persons report, Celeste's parents allowed Celeste to live away from home in May 2024 with her arm in the same city that David lived in. And the detective said yes. Now, I thought that was a very clever misdirection. She tried, the way she worded it tried to make it seem like, see, she let she let David go and live in Los Angeles. Sorry, she let Celeste go and live in Los Angeles with David, right? That was the way she worded. She let him go live in Los Angeles where David lived with her arm. It was almost like playing shuffle with certain words. Because just because she went to live in Los Angeles with her aunt doesn't mean that she was given permission to live with David. Permission to live in the same

city with David when this girl's been sneaking out lying to the parents for years, getting secret cell phones they don't know about. They're trying to make it seem like the parents signed a permission slip for their minor daughter to go and live with David. And that is not true. That is misinformation. And the way that it was spun, I think, is out of line. So really, they said that Celeste, for whatever unrelated reasons, they didn't say why. They didn't say had anything to do with David. But Celeste went to live with her auntie in the Los Angeles County area. Not Hollywood, not West Hollywood, not in the vicinity of David's house, not in David's house. She was living with her auntie in the Los Angeles County area. That's a big area. Okay, but everybody is going to now put that out there

and say, see, the family said that she could go and live with David. Not true, but I could see what she was doing. And look, fair play to Blair, she's doing the best she can with a bad situation to try and give the man a defence, which everyone deserves a defence at the end of the day, even though this guy looks to me to be a monster. But at the end of the day, everyone deserves a defence. And I think that what actually ended up happening after that was, we kind of saw her twist. things to make it seem like there was more family complicity than there actually was. They went on to say aunts and cousins knew about the relationship, yes? Now here's the clever misdirection.

Blair said at the start, David was known to Celeste's family. Didn't say parents, said known to the family. And then they said, aunts and cousins knew about the relationship. They said, yes, now look, I don't know the ages or the backgrounds of the aunts and cousins. You're more likely to tell your sibling about a little secret illegal relationship you've got going on than maybe your parents who are going to be judgmental and step in. Some people have got that relationship with aunts and cousins. I've got uncles that are closer in age to me.

It depends what your family tree looks like, right? I thought that was clever misdirection. David was known to Celeste family, yep. Did aunts and cousins know about the relationship? Yes. They said, did David attend church with Celeste's family? And David would pick Celeste up from the family and take her on dates at the mall. That was a yes.

But here's the thing, and I talked about this earlier. Saying David attended the church with a family makes it sound like Celeste's whole family was all there with David. Oh, this is our boy, David. Remember in that message that was going around yesterday that was apparently from the neighbour that said, oh, you know, they were showing David and Celeste off in the community. They all loved him. They loved each other. I couldn't imagine him killing her. Now, I think that's nonsense, but I think they put that out there to muddy the waters. But listen carefully, David attended church with the family. That to me could mean they just simply attended the same church.

They could have easily gone completely separately. David and Celeste could have been the only ones, or David Celeste and her cousin could be the only ones actually knew there was a relationship. David could be sitting five rows back, giving Celeste a little wink when nobody's looking, and that's it. That doesn't necessarily mean that they were all welcoming David into the community open arm like we were led to believe. And then they, I feel like Blair basically attach those two things together. David attended church with a family and would pick Celeste up from the family house and take her on dates to the mall. They didn't say that he would knock on the family door and bring her out and shake hands with everybody in the family and give them birthday gifts,

the type of nonsense that we were seeing in that post going around. All they said was David attended the same church with the family doesn't mean that they were all together hand in hand. And David would pick her up from the house and take her on dates. Well, we know that David would try and pick her up in the middle of the night with his security guard secretly trying to kidnap her. So that doesn't mean anything as far as the family being friendly. That doesn't mean that the parents condone the whole thing. And I'm very... Yeah, but still, if the parents knew or had an inclination as she was hanging out with them and anything more than a friend,

actually I'm going to be honest with you 13 year old shouldn't even be a friend with somebody who was like 1819 so again I'm not saying this is a parent's fault but like we got to start looking at the parents or the family to be like how did y'all not do something suspicious and I'll give her credit as a lawyer

she worded it well and she definitely made it seem very much like there was a lot of complicity wrongfully in my opinion they would go on to say David took Celeste's family to six flags. Family makes it sound like the whole mom, dad, cousins, brothers, sisters, everybody was at six flags. As far as I'm aware, it was just a sister.

It was just her sister, right? And you might have your little secrets with your sister. Your sister might know about your secret older boyfriend. Maybe not your parents. Maybe not your older aunties, your older higher level guardians. But again, she kept saying, oh, the family knew. And then she would focus on like one's relationship. Oh, David took Celeste family.

family members of Celeste Six Flags, right? Whoa, what, just the sister? And then they said the Vegas trip. Celeste adult sister was aware of the relationship, right? And that adult sister went to Vegas with them. And then basically, the detective interjected and said, well, accompanied them to Vegas, went with them isn't right. She went in a different car at a different time.

She stayed elsewhere in a different hotel. Doesn't really, she was in Vegas at the same time. That doesn't even necessarily mean that, you know, it said that they had apparently met up in Las Vegas. That could have been one or two times that they met up, and that could have been a sister that kind of was knowing a little bit about the relationship, keeping it hush, hush. But the idea was like the family were all aware. They're all going big family vacation to Vegas. The way she presented it was genius, but I saw through it. From there, okay, they said Celeste school friends know about it, right?

And they said yes, but again, they were both posting pictures on social media. David had all these secret clandestine pictures of like Celeste arm in the picture. Of course the school friends knew. The teacher knew. This was like a, I don't want to say like an open secret, but like word had got out, and that doesn't mean that everybody was complicit and played it. There was clearly a lot of deceit going on, especially on David's behalf, but also partly Celeste was deceiving people too. Arguably, she had been deceived by David as well. But that did definitely make me wonder, to what extent, like, is, you know, to what extent is, like, are they kind of reframing a lot of this stuff to try and make it seem like something it wasn't? I'm not convinced just because there was a notarized, a lot of emphasis on notarized, do your research into that. But they were kind of, that was like supposed to be like this smoking gun.

But the reality is that could have been forged. It could have been genuine, but they could have been lied to about the boyfriend's age. They could have said, oh, yeah, my boyfriend's family's rich. He wants to go on this family trip to London and he's only 16. She could have said, oh yeah, he's getting his parents to sign a notary form as well for Permanent. mission, easily all types of lives could have been told. So I really don't think that it was fair to characterize the parents like that, and the parents were in court for this to be read.

So the parents' size something. Right? So the parents, you know, listen, at some point, we got to require parents to be parents. You can't just be signing shit. You got to be up in your daughter, your son's business. Speak English, so they might not have understood as it happened. But anyway, after that, they said they went through social media searches. They identified pictures of Celeste and David online.

They basically kind of like, Blair tried to make this point that like, oh, there were images that were basically shared publicly by David and Celeste. So it wasn't this big secret. Like, they were out there publicly. People knew that they were together. And it was kind of a bit flimsy. But they also said, oh, there was pictures of them online from Discord. They were gaming a lot.

They were gamers. That's how they met. They met gaming, all this kind of thing. And again, like, I just feel like it was, I feel like it was, I feel like, like it, they thought it was going to be more compelling than it was. From there, um, basically the detective said, look, I can't verify all the photos on social media. I can only verify the photos that like we've taken off of the, um, that we've taken off of the, what's it called? Uh, celebrate off of his own devices. Like the, the items that they had taken off of his devices,

um, were essentially like, you know, those were the things that they were relying on in court. And like all the stuff on social media, the stuff on Reddit, the stuff on Discord. The detective basically said, look, that's not stuff we can verify. We don't rely on that. So a lot of the stuff Blair was relying on didn't meet the standard of proof that a detective would actually want to basically put it out there Now after this We would basically hear that apparently and this was pretty damning and now Blair's putting this out there as evidence in favor of David But I don't think this helped him if anything this just threw everyone else under the bus But she basically said to the detective which who confirmed that David's management team all went with David and Coachella with David and Celeste

And I thought they said that Celeste went to Coachella But I didn't think that that was true. So that was a little bit confusing to me. Obviously, we know that David's management team was at Coachella and we saw a lot of pictures. I talked about the pictures the other day about how Josh Marshall had his kids at Coachella backstage with David. I see Josh Marshall and them doing a little privacy complaint on the video, right? We're way ahead of you. We already blurred everything out that was personal to you guys, right?

You don't have any right to have your video of you guys flexing your watches and laughing about the situation to be private. You guys are public figures and you put that out on Ziv Tamas page. We'll deal with that separately, right? Those guys are absolute losers, all right? But anyway, from there, okay, we ended up hearing, this was crazy. I'm not going to say the name, but they mentioned somebody in the industry by name. I wrote the name down, all right? I brought your name down. They basically said people in the industry, a music producer went out socially with David and Celeste together.

So whoever that was, you're going to be in big trouble. So while Blair was kind of doing that thing, I noticed. sir. What could that be? David looked down. They brought up the Fonda Theatre and again they tried to bring up all this damning stuff that doesn't look good for David, but like as if it was in his defense. So they basically said, oh well, Celeste was, it sat in between David's family, his siblings

at the Fonda Theatre with his management team. Everybody knew, everybody accepted their relationship. It was kind of like, bro, this isn't helping. This is just throwing everybody else under the bus and it really like, cool. If you want to just cook a bunch of other people along with him, that's cool. But like, I'm not really sure that they're not really sure that they're just, that's really going to help you too much. So, interestingly, one of the craziest things that came up is they actually said that,

Blair basically said that Celeste, and there was proof that Celeste had previously committed domestic violence against David. A tiny little 13-year-old had apparently committed domestic violence against David. And now Beth objected to this, and Blair said it shows a lack of malice planning and laying and weight, references to prior domestic violence. Yeah, so they're not counteracting the murder charges. there's just the underage charge and also the stalk in charge line and wait. Apparently incidents in 2024 and 2025 where Celeste had been violent towards David,

but the judge said, look, for this proceeding, this is a probable cause hearing. It's not relevant. We don't need to include that. You can bring up these specific incidents in trial, but you can't really get to it now. Now, to be honest, I've been talking for a very long time. I'm not going to wrap up the video, but what I might do is just like do a little lap and just have a little stroll because to be, honest. All right. Okay. This trial is going to be really interesting. Obviously, I think he has some potential defenses to say, well, if the parents are consenting, how is this illegal? Now, the big

thing is going to be the murder, right? The big thing is going to be the murder. Obviously, we really don't think he's not going to get cooked on everything else. We think he's going to get cooked on everything. But, you know, the big thing they're going to try to get is this murder charge to stick. How do you explain her last messages to you? How do you explain that her phone tracks to your house? How do you explain that you leave the area sometime afterwards, but you claim you don't know where she's at? How do you explain that she never sent to a message again in our life? It's a lot for him to explain. I can't effing be friends with you. you were with Neo and an Asia bro

Find a date I can see you She's pressuring him So they give all these examples Of all these times when they're like Oh look you you were pressure And you were pressuring to see them And they basically went on to say Explain why I can't see you before Singapore

David's like my parents are here I want to have an in-person conversation So it sounds like really He was saying like I want to tell my parents What I got going on with you really So I wonder whether the parents knew Or they didn't know at this point about the age

And that he wanted to actually reveal the situation that was going on. I don't know. But that's what he said. I want to have an in-person conversation. And then Celeste replied, she was on his ass. She said, I need proof that your parents are there. Flights or you're lying. I saw other people in your house. And then David said, they get here on Thursday, but I can't do tomorrow. Why do we need to meet in person before I'm back?

I can see you tomorrow. She replied, I can see you tomorrow. I can dead ass go to Riverside too. She said, we need to talk in person, please, man. David said, no. Celeste said, you have one more chance to tell me the truth. You're hurting me. I don't know if you've ever been told this. It said, no, bro, cut this shit. I'm seeing you today.

And David was like, okay. And basically, there was some other stuff that came up. I'm actually not going to say it just to be careful, just to be more careful. So basically, after all this, Blair starts questioning the detective and saying, well, you couldn't confirm if Celeste actually wrote the message. You know, when Celeste said girly pop, I'm almost at your door. open the door, I'm almost there. They said, well, she wasn't there when she sent that. So you can't prove that she was there. And they said, oh, was, was, you can't prove that

David was in his address, in his home. And the detective's like, well, we could triangulate his phone to his address. And they were like, yeah, but you couldn't tell if he was inside or outside, right? Like, that was some gotcha. And they was like, yeah, well, I mean, that's the address. Like, that's where the car was. That's where, like, she was ultimately found. Like, it's basically, it is what it is. Um, so after that, um, they basically went back and forth, she was sort of saying, oh, you can't prove that he was in the property. They said he was playing a VR video game with two other people right before she arrived. And they were trying to use that as a way to say, oh, you know, there was no lying in wait.

It was just, they was playing VR and she came over. He wasn't lying in wait. He stopped playing the game and went and spoke to her or not. Like, who knows what happened? You can't prove that he ever even spoke. He wasn't even in. Okay. All right.

But if you're asking me, our official prediction is that he will be found guilty of first degree murder. All right. In another case, that's kind of like interest in Nolan Wells. This is the kid who went missing after going to a remote island with his friends. They all came back without him. they don't know what's happened afterwards

and he found washed up ashore and he was dead afterwards okay it's been speculated if he was killed if he ended up just being just drowning and so far the official word from all the teens that were with him

they're like no he said he wanted to stay back to go hang with a girl we left him and you know people say well why do you leave his phone with you why did he leave his keys with you and we don't really have full answers for that even though there's some preliminary answers like supposedly there's no service there so some people usually leave their phones behind but even then you're staying behind why it makes no sense anyway there's some new audio that's being released and apparently this is a 911 call after these guys so so they're on this boat and apparently the boat has started to malfunction so they even

eventually have to kind of like ditch the boat or kind of like get the boat back to like, you know, the doc is as quickly as they could. In the 911 call because they did call for help, people feel like they hear something that could be a background, you know, happening of maybe him getting, you know,

either murdered or him being unconscious and people admitted. Check this out. That's the question. Is there a person, a living individual on the boat? And there's lots of people breathing on the boat. A new audio recording from the Nolan Wells case captures the chaos on the water of the day

the 18-year-old disappeared off Mississippi's Horn Island. And now we're hearing the frantic distress call. The United Cajun Navy is also firing back at attorney Ben Crump over a major claim. And also there is this decision by prosecutors to keep a key piece of evidence under wraps for now that is telling a lot about where this investigation may go. I'm going to break down every new development in this story.

Welcome to Sidebar, presented by Law and Crime. I'm Jesse Webner. Okay, we're back with a lot more that has happened since we last updated you on the case of Nolan Wells. I think the last time we updated you was when the results of that independent autopsy were released, which, by the way, came out they couldn't rule out foul play, so it leaves Nolan's family still demanding answers. There's still, of course, the state medical examination and the toxicology reports on what will come of that. But now what do we have? We have new audio that has been released by the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources. And it is giving us a glimpse into some of the chaos that was occurring on the water on that fateful July 4th day. One of the first pieces of audio that we're hearing from that day captures what appears to be the frantic moments as a boat that Nolan had potentially been on that day that was connected to this group began taking on water. And we've got the full

call. We're going to unpack it for you. But first, just listen to this. Hey, we're at the west tip of horn and our village stopped working. We're going, we're sinking. Can you all please come? Yes. How far is the water coming up, sir? It's coming up. We're just thinking. I don't know. Like, we're going down. So that's what I've been talking about. That is the sound of what appears to be panic as the boat was taking on water. But there is one thing that we're trying to figure out. where was Nolan Wells? Where was Nolan Wells when that was happening? Was he on the boat?

Was he already off the island? We don't know. It's one of the many gaps that we're still trying to piece together in the time. He's supposed to be off the boat because they claim he said he was going to go talk to a girl. And what we're hearing is just one piece of this overarching puzzle. Nolan's friends are talking now. We're going to tell you what they said in these interviews. The United Cajun Navy that was part of these search efforts for Nolan,

they are firing back at attorney Ben Crump, who's representing Nolan Welles family right now. They are disputing a key detail and making a shocking claim about what they've actually discussed, or rather what they haven't discussed. The DA, the district attorney, is planning a move that's going to change when we'll get a look at the results of the state's autopsy. So a lot is happening. I want to get into it all. But first, let me just make sure everybody's on the same page with this if you haven't been

following the case from the beginning. So we're talking about 18-year-old Nolan Wells. He was from Ocean Spring, Mississippi. He was a college student football player. On the 4th of July, he went with a group of friends to Horn Island. It's a barrier island off the Mississippi coast. It's really isolated. There's no like commercial developments or anything like that going there to celebrate.

At some point, he disappeared. He was reported missing that night. A massive search was launched. And then two days later, on July 6th, his body was found on the island. But what happened to him? That remains the central question. That remains a question that nobody at least publicly can seem to answer or has answered. The results of the family's independent autopsy listed Nolan's cause and manner of death as undetermined. And remember, the family seemingly being distrustful of law enforcement or suspicious or maybe critical that the first impressions of what happened to Nolan were there were no signs of found play. This seemed to be accidental drowning. They seem to want more answers or a second opinion. So they fired Ben Crump, they ordered an independent autopsy. And this pathologist found that pieces of Nolan's body were talking portions of his neck throat had been removed by the state medical examiner because the state medical examiner did the first autopsy. Again, we don't have

the results. So been removed by the state medical examiner before this second autopsy could be done. So this second pathologist couldn't determine whether there was in fact injury or trauma to the neck. And that leaves many questions still on the table. It raises a question. If the state ME is doing further testing of those components, can the state ME definitively conclude there was trauma that this was drowning? Drowning accidental or not? Maybe it's tough to say if it's accidental or not, given those watery conditions. And then there's that red discoloration in the back of the head, which we talked about last time, according to medical experts I spoke to, it could be from decomposition. It could be a blunt injury before death.

Because when I spoke with Dr. Nader Rutherford, she said that the body doesn't bruise like that after death. But let's start unpacking that. Okay. So he's given like this real windup that you could be caught up to speed. The independent autopsy cannot rule out that he got killed. But it also can't rule out that maybe he's just drowned. There was bruising on the back of the head. We're not bruising.

It was red. that is something to look into to see if maybe he hit his head or something like that. Similarly, other than the bruising, they're thinking that, you know, or some people have been incorrectly thought that because his throat or, you know, some chest cavity stuff was removed, that means it's a cover up. But no, it's kind of like par for the course when they do autopsy. They might, you know, they think he died for drowning. So they might cut out a portion of either as long or, or, you know, throat to try to figure out how

as airwaves, you know, were probably operating before the fatal incident. Now, what we're now learning, what's new? So the Mississippi Department of Resources released a recording of a distress call made on July 4th from a boat near Horn Island, which we believe Nolan was on at some point during that day. We don't know for sure who made this call, but it does. offer us a look into what was unfolding out there on the water that day, including the boat sinking, the kids panicking. And again, where is Nolan? Now, before I play this audio, just something to keep in mind. I first saw this from TMZ, Charles LaPOTier, basically said

that there's a conversation happening online that in this audio, in the background, you can possibly arguably hear, is he dead? Nolan. Oh, my God. Very difficult to make it. out, I leave it to you. Okay. All right. Yeah, I just actually got off the phone with his grandpa, so I'm guessing as the owner of the boat. And he said, I literally, I mean, I just hung up with him. He said that they don't need any help right now, but if something changes, he'll call me back. So I'm guessing that they may have figured it out because that's why he said that they're in a panic and their boat won't crank. As I said before, we don't exactly know where Nolan was at this point. But according to reporting from WLOX, this distress call was made around 4 p.m.

And according to the Jackson County Sheriff's Office and other accounts that we've heard, Nolan was apparently last seen around 3 p.m. So interesting. That audio, I can't hear anything, Ted. How many adults, sir? And is everybody on board? I can't hear it, Ted. I can't hear it.

Good health otherwise? Yeah. Yeah. How many? All right. Do you need the United States? All right. I'll skip past it.

Had eyes on him. But I want to talk about it. I'm going to get some coffee chat. I ain't going to lie. I'm feeling. I don't know why I'm feeling tired. Let me get some coffee. About what happened since that press conference?

Because if you watched our previous episode, you might remember that we talked about this moment, this big detail that attorney Ben Crum shared about how Nolan was found. The United Cajian Navy are so forthcoming. The fact that they told us we haven't heard from any of their local officials that Nolan was found face down fully clothed. Well, that's significant to us because the last time we saw him on the videos, he was worth out of shirt.

So at what point did he put on a shirt? Somebody saw something. Somebody knows something. There were almost 300, 400 people. Somebody knows something. Major moment, because if it's connected to it, if you remember that piece of video that surfaced just days before the press conference, right?

This video, which TMZ obtained and published, was recorded on July 4th at 2.23 p.m., so a little under 40 minutes before Nolan was last seen, appears to show an individual a man. There's an argument that that could be Nolan wearing blue swim trunks and shirtless. And we remember there was a photo of Nolan Wells that had been circulated from that day wearing those trunks with his friends. So Crump was raising the question of whether anyone saw anything

in between when he was without a shirt like here, if this is him, and allegedly when he claims he was later fully clothed. Here's the problem. The problem is that the United Cajun Navy says they never told Crump he was fully clothed and they are firing back at his initial claim. They're now coming for him. On July 26, they wrote on X, did attorney Crump lie? about UCN? Yes. He said UCN told us Nolan was fully clothed. Not true. We have never spoken with Crump, and we certainly didn't tell the parents anything like that. Now, here's where it gets a little confusing, because this fully cloth claim doesn't actually originate with Ben Crump. No, the president of the United Cajun Navy, Todd Terrell, was on a July 20th episode of Crime Stories with Nancy

Graze and said yes to a question about Nolan being fully clothed. But Terrell seemingly later corrected himself saying Nolan was clothed, meaning he wasn't naked. He was wearing swim trunks and that, yes, he should have been clearer. So the Cajun Navy mentioned that in this ex post writing, quote, did the UCN president get taken out of context during an interview? Yes, his definition of fully clothed meant not being naked wearing swim trunks. It doesn't matter what anybody else thought it meant. it only matters what Todd meant because he said it. The bottom line is that Nolan was wearing only swim trunks when found. That's a fact that can't be refuted. This is a manufactured distraction to divert attention from this press conference blunder. So that's the dispute with the United

Cajun Navy. But now I want to talk about the key figures in this case who are now speaking out, Nolan's purported friends. They sat down for lengthy interviews with conservative commentator Brandon Tatum on the Officer Tatum show. What they're saying, is adding even more layers to all of this. So for example, first up, traced in shepherd, described as one of Nolan's best friends. However, there's been some commentary that Nolan's family has maybe publicly disputed this. But here's what he spoke about with Officer Tatum. So he spoke about the moment that he learned that Nolan's body had been found, saying, quote, I was putting fuel in our boat at six. I got told that they were taking out another boat to

chandelier at seven. So I put my boat back on the lift. And I had to, I went to McDonald's and then I got the news after I left, McDonald's, that his body was found. He says he had nothing to do with Nolan's death and that he has been living with guilt ever since saying, quote, I beat myself up every night I laid down, beat myself up anytime it crosses my mind because in my head, if I wasn't drinking, if I didn't get into that altercation, apparently there was an altercation that day, not involving Nolan, but involving him, maybe I would be able to do something. Maybe I would have told Nolan, hey man, you're not going with that girl, just come back with us. Maybe it just plays out different. So yes, he's talking

about this altercation that he says happened on the island, this apparent fight with a stranger that got so intense that he claims his uncle made him get back on the boat and leave. And regarding the girl comment, that's interesting because this is what he says was the last thing he told Nolan that day. Quote, all right, buddy, I love you. See you later. I'm glad I said it. I had been under the influence a little bit, and that's probably why I did say it at the time, just, you know, getting all lovey-dovey, but I'm at peace, I said it. Another friend, Warren Hudson, also spoke out, was interviewed, talked about the phone, the keys, the night everything unravel. According to Hudson, they were in an emergency situation. They needed to leave quickly, which is why they wanted to get Nolan on board.

And he said, quote, Nolan, get the on the boat. Get on the boat. And Nolan said, no, I'm staying out here. Now, this whole back and forth about whether Nolan stayed on the island to talk to a girl, Nolan's family has indicated from the very beginning, it would be very unlike him to leave his friends. And this is of note, too. According to people, Nolan's mom, Christine Wensley, said in a prior interview with the griot, this is weeks back, that this young lady that Nolan was apparently talking to contacted her. She said in the interview, quote, she did reach out to me initially, just saying basically like it was a hay and by type situation.

So it's not entirely clear, did he follow this girl? How long were they together? How long were they talking? And look, one of the biggest outliers in all of this, why people have a lot of questions is no matter what happened to Nolan, no one saw anything. No one saw him drowning if that's the case. Now, look, we don't know exactly what's being told to law enforcement, what's being told to Ben Crump and his team. But that's a big question. So here's what the phone comes in. Okay. So Nolan's family has raised concerns about content being deleted. And remember, the phone was left. Okay. So the steps we're going to get to trying to figure all this out. It's kind of unclear.

We're waiting for the medical examiner to come with some official finding. The redness on the back of the head, that could be alarming and chilling, but we're also not pathologists. We don't know exactly how the body is in certain situations. Or, you know, the independent autopsy, that person who conducted it was really careful to say, redness. Well, if you got hitting the back of the head really hard, it might be a bruise. It could be an abrasion. It could be a cut.

We're not hearing that. We're hearing redness. So not too sure what that means, but obviously it's cause of concern. The more this thing kind of lags along, it gives you cause for concern. And I would hope that the, you know, like law enforcement or whoever that's working to try to figure out if there was a crime committee here, they would act quicker than just kind of drag their feet because with each moment that comes, you know, that passes

and more things that come out that people have to decipher for themselves is going to get to a point where people won't believe whatever the medical examiner or the cops say unless it agrees or aligns with what they say, what

they already think. So I would hope they're putting some urgency to this because this could turn to a huge thing. left behind on the boat, apparently. The family has indicated they used a Life 360 app to locate Nolan's phone, and then they got custody of it from his friends. But they also said that they found it strange that he would leave the phone behind if he

was planning to stay on the island. But Hudson said this, quote, there was no reason for us to get on Nolan's phone. No one touched Nolan's phone. No one even was in contact with his phone until it was moved from the boat to the truck, and none of us have access to Nolan's password to get on his phone and delete anything. We had no reason to delete anything. There's nothing to hide here. And there's been a conversation about maybe he wouldn't take his phone because you're

entering at the salt water. Maybe that's common when you're boating. Now, Hudson also clarified the timeline because the last time he claims he saw Nolan was around 3 p.m. on July 4th and he claims he saw Nolan in the water with a girl. Said, quote, I looked at Nolan and Nolan was like shaking his head laughing and I was like, dude, you crazy. Now, both Shepard and Hudson denied having anything to do with Nolan's death, okay? But now I want to talk about another update, major update, that's impacting the investigation itself.

Just last week, the DA, the district attorney, Angel Myers-Macelath, made an announcement confirming the state's official autopsy report. It's being weighed. It won't be released to the public until a grand jury reviews it. That's significant. Grand jury being impaneled to determine if criminal charges are warranted. That's, okay, so that's good. So there's going to be a grand jury that looks into this. Now, just like with the David case, the grand jury might be an investigative grand jury, where maybe they have to subpoena a bunch of people because I don't know if this is just clearly, you know, if the ME finance doesn't seem consistent with a homicide, what is a grand jury looking at?

And the DA made this clear when speaking with WLOX saying, quote, every death in the county, except those of natural causes and non-criminal car wrecks is presented to your grand jury. Many people don't know that we have handled death investigations in this manner my entire career. She also said her office is handling the investigation the same way as all others telling WLOX, The pressure for answers does not change what the work requires. Our responsibility to Nolan in our community is to complete this investigation thoroughly and carefully without compromise, supported by the evidence and worthy of the confidence of the people we serve. Our restraint in communicating facts and evidence is not an effort to keep the truth from the public. It is an effort to protect the integrity of this investigation and the grand jury proceeding. And that would make sense because if you have information out there, will it affect other witnesses accounts, witness testimony? Could they change the narrative? narrative at all? Could it affect potential grand jurors being impaneled? You want to keep everything

as buttoned up as possible while this is an ongoing investigation. Now, she also addressed the flood of misinformation that has been swirling online, saying, quote, if we sacrifice the integrity of the process in an effort to satisfy today's questions, we risk undermining confidence in tomorrow's answers. Here's the thing. DA says this is standard procedure. Nolan's family has been frustrated by the lack of transparency from the very beginning. They've called on local officials to be more forthcoming. They've made it clear they don't trust. The investigation is being handled maybe properly.

And as for when that grand jury will convene, the DA hasn't set. So for now, we're waiting to see what happens next. We've been on top of this from the very beginning. Yeah, interesting. And the next day, everybody was panicking and everybody was texting Katie, you know, because she was.

Just my buddy the next day and said, you know, this is the last time I saw him, you know, he's really sweet. But she also mentioned that the last time she saw Nolan was when my buddy was yelling at him to get all the boat. They're telling this story as if, by the way, it confirms their story. It's actually the contrary.

Now, he said this before the audio got released and the audio is horrific. The audio confirms to me something really, really, really bad happened to Nolan. But he said this as if this is a confirmation and not a debunking or contrary to his story. If you're saying, hey, we left Nolan on an island. We don't know what happened to him. Remember, they're panicking over the boat. So it kind of could make sense for them to be talking about the boat, right? You know, also something was malfunctioned. It's supposedly a pump to pump water off of the boat. Right. So there's, it looks like there's water that is. somehow gotten into the boat or like, you know, the ground of the boat. And in order to not sink, there usually is a pump that works.

That will just pump it over. By the way, I forgot what the name of it. Name. It's called a bill something. A bill pump? What is it called? Yeah, a bilge pump. I'll kind of show you what that does.

What exactly is a bilge pump? You'll learn about it quickly with me here. Hey, they're right from Bridge Marina. Simple terms, but I thought it helped describe it, an automatic bilge pump or a bilge pump. Well, I'm in the hull of this boat here, and I'm just pulling out my little cover plate that access is the actual very bottom of the hull.

Now, I'll explain it even quicker than he's going to do it. Essentially, if water ever gets in, like, because of how boats float, that you need a vacuum that's kind of even beneath, like, you know, even the surface. and it creates some buoyancy. If water gets in there, the boat mechanism is going to fail. So they usually have a pump there to pump water out, right?

And when you hear that water is now taken onto the vessel, you think that the pump should activate and work. But if the pump is dead, and that's why we've got to remember terminology now, like, would it be normal to say, hey, it's dead in terms of the pump is dead? or maybe we're referring to the the the boat itself. I don't think the boat was dead because clearly, you know, I don't think they got towed. But maybe that's what they were talking about.

But I think this is what they believe malfunctioned. Let me let him finish. Or I guess the top of it, but my bilge area. And in here I have my automatic bilge pump. And most folks will have a bilge pump, especially a fiberglass. They should have an automatic bilge pump. The village pump. Yeah.

Automatic bilge pump was going to, it's going to, to kind of have like a float as soon as it detects water and it rises, the pump is going to just activate and just pump the water out, right? Like it's, it's, you know, again, I don't know too much about boats, but that makes sense. If we're thinking about just modern technology, how boats work, maybe a malfunction, you don't want a bunch of sinking boats, you have these pumps that at least it could give you some time that that boat could get back to shore or at least get back to safety. You get what I'm saying?

So I believe this was the failing mechanism. Takes any water that's found in here and pumps it overboard. Somebody said W. Spin Act. No, it's not a spin. It's not a spin. I'm going off literally hearing what they said was happening. They said the boat is taking on water. If the boat is taking on water, it kind of tells you that that pump isn't working.

I'm not saying that's what captured on the audio. Maybe it's actually captured on audio. exactly what y'all think it is but we we have to have a little bit more of a nuanced conversation bro like if you just want me to say yo now that's them saying yo throw his body overboard like if that makes y'all feel better cool but like bro this is the academy over here bro we're going at least think this through a little bit bro okay we're not this is not like conspiracy theory 101 um of course something crazy could have happened but we want to be a little bit more educated high IQ while we're trying to discuss it right so uh just give me 3 3rd

So that means it automatically will push the water out of here. And folks ask how that works. You can see this little piece right here. It's a float. And water builds up in the hull, and it lifts that float up. And you hear that it turns the motor on. And it pumps the water out from the hull. And then when the water drops down, the float falls down and turns off. So it's automatic and that I don't need to worry about it. The challenge folks run into it, is there will be residual water in here.

There is probably that much water sitting in this hull because that pump can't suck it off the bottom of the boat, nor is it necessary further enough back that it can get all that water. And that's normal. It's not the end of the world. The boat's not sinking. It just has a little water in it.

As a professional audio engineer with experience in dialogue editing, dialogue, cleanup, sound design, and post-production, I decided to work on that C-toe call using traditional audio processing techniques rather than relying on any AI voice separation or AI enhancement. My goal was pretty much to preserve as much of the original recording as possible while making the quieter dialogue and background audio easier to hear.

So I basically used techniques such as subtractive EQ, compression, gain adjustments, noise frequency, I mean noise reduction, frequency isolation, and other traditional processing methods. So what I did was I separated Vicky, the C-toe dispatcher from Warren and the audio originating from the boat so that I can concentrate more closely on what was happening behind and around Warren, pretty much on the boat. And I specifically chose not to rely on AI because aggressive AI enhancements and voice isolation tools can sometimes introduce artifacts and distort the speech or create ambiguity around the sounds that were originally present. And for something this serious, I wanted my processing to remain as conservative as possible. You'll also notice time code and dialogue written on the side of the screen and pop up during each segment. That dialogue represents what I personally hear as an audio engineer while processing and repeatedly reviewing these sections. I'm pretty much providing it as a listening reference, not as a declaration that my interpretation is the only possible interpretation. and that's important.

I want you to listen for yourself, use headphones if you have them, listen closely, and decide with your own ears what you believe is being said. You can also return to the original unprocessed recording and compare directly with what you're hearing here.

You'll also notice that my time code may not match the regular timestamp on the original uploaded video. And that's because I'm working inside a professional post-production timeline a digital audio workstation, basically using simply time code, which in film that's displayed in hours,

There's a threshold in the gate. And to make it very simple, like, for example, even this mic, this mic is connected to, it gets routed through. I don't want to, like, bore you with too much details, but it gets routed through because this is actually a music studio. And there's a whole, like, set up there. And it's controlled by, like, these processors and also, like, hardware that's doing it. The simple thing about microphones and noise, speech or even. your phone does this. In order to make a call clearer,

just like a, you know Apple headphones, like it'll turn off the outside noise? What they do is they inverse, it's like I'm trying to explain audio to you. If you're wondering how noise can't sound headphones work, basically there's a speaker that listens to the noise and what happens to sound,

if you inverse it, there is no sound. So sound waves go up and down. If you inverse it at the same speed, there is silence. Okay? It's complete silence. That's the technology using noise cancelling headphones. Okay? All right.

This isn't, you can't look at this through the prism of You living in your house with the air conditioner on with a cup of coffee next to you and say, oh, well, you know, he should have avoided it. He could have avoided it. Most likely is Puffy probably tried to avoid this thing probably for days, weeks, and months. Okay. and he may have been put in a position where he had to defend himself, right? So from what I understand, the inmate who he got into it with,

this is his second time getting in some type of altercation. And, you know, the dude was stalking Puff. That was one of the words that I heard. And, you know, Puff is a high-profile celebrity, man. So, you know, it's nothing for people to try to get a rep on, you know, trying to do something to him or get into it with him. But I want to stress that this was purely self-defense. Okay.

And in prison, these are things that have to be. done. It has to be done. And, you know, I know he's short and almost getting ready to finish the ADAP program. What I hope and what I think is most likely to happen, we'll see over the next couple of days, is, you know, maybe they'll let both of them guys back out onto the compound, allowed him to go back into the program. Puff has been a model prisoner. He has had no incidents, no write-ups, no disciplinary. So he's basically saying that Ditty's getting punished

Inmates that were in MDC Brooklyn wrote letters on his behalf for the judge for sentencing, telling the judge in their letters how much impact Puff has had.

Puff had on them while they were in MDC, Brooklyn. That there was no fights in the zone, in the unit where Puff was. in MDC Brooklyn, that guys had hope that he had spoke life into a lot of the guys, man, and gave them hope that they could change their lives. And from what I understand,

the same thing was going down at Fort Dix. Puff was labeled a model prisoner, playing leadership roles in a lot of dudes lives, providing hope. an inspiration. Okay. All right. So Did he apparently was in a fight within a North Carolina inmate.

And according to my man, Sean G., he looked like the inmate may have been like stalking him, probably a little bit trying to be on that groupie vibe or whatever. However, it turned into a physical altercation. Did he supposedly defend himself, but he still got sent to the whole. There is confirmation that he's still in the whole. the ARDAP program, the ARDAP program is a drug program that he actually qualified for because of the special circumstances of they admitted that throughout the time that he was doing all the crimes, he was under the influence of many drugs. And thus he qualified for the ARDAP program.

The ARDAP program gives you significant reduction of your sentence if you complete the drug, program and it adds on to all the other things that gets you reduce time wait so now TMZ and everybody else that posting the story about didy and solitary confinement that i dropped last night day late but they don't even got the whole story let me tell you the whole story is crazy now last night if you follow me you already knew about this but now everybody talking about it let me tell you what happened with diddy they're saying that it was a fight but nobody knows what the fight is over except me the fight The fight that Diddy got into it with with one of the inmates that got him put in the hole was over two things.

When they searched that area, they found three cell phones. Now, I can't confirm for sure if one of those cell phones is Diddy.

They said it was or not. But one of those cell phones was for sure the inmate that Diddy end up fighting. The inmate got pissed at Diddy. because he was smoking in that area and got everybody in trouble and got his cell phone took, so they got to fight. Now, if you listen to TMZ
