Emonthebrain - How Your Brain Constructs Reality (And How to Change It)

Episode Date: November 17, 2025

In this episode of Planet Em, Emily breaks down the neuroscience of reality and how your brain constructs every experience you’ve ever had. She explains why what you see isn’t actually “out ther...e,” how color is created in the brain, why your beliefs shape what you perceive, and why your mindset, memories, conditioning, and self-talk all affect the version of reality you experience. Emily shares examples from her time in visual system research, explains why optical illusions prove that the brain is guessing and filling in the gaps, and walks through how sound, color, and even self-image are constructed internally. She also talks about the subconscious mind, shadow work, the role of programming and beliefs, and why you are always manifesting based on the way your brain is wired. She ends with her top three tips for creating your reality: reprogramming beliefs, changing your self-talk, and regulating your nervous system so your brain can build the version of life you actually want to experience. Starting point is 00:00:00 Hello and welcome back to Planet M. I am super excited for this episode today because it is all about the neuroscience of reality and how to create yours. I will say I think a huge reason why I am so excited for this episode is because learning about the neuroscience of reality is something that completely changed the game for me. You really start to realize when you understand the neuroscience of how we experience reality, you start to realize that reality is not what we think it is. It's not what we think it is at all. And a lot of the spiritual practices and in the spiritual kind of worlds, different religions, they talk about the concept of Maya, that reality is an illusion. But there are lots of different examples of reality being an illusion. A lot of people like to talk about
Starting point is 00:00:45 we're living in a simulation, like in the matrix and stuff like that. And I'm not here to tell you what the world is or what this life is, but I'm here to tell you about the neuroscience of what reality is so that you can have more information to make your own educated opinion on your own. And so we're going to talk all about that today. And I'm super excited. I will say, just to kind of preface this, I used to work in a research lab studying the visual system and how the visual system works. And the visual system is probably one of the coolest things that I learned about when it came to the brain because it really shows you that nothing is real. What we see is really an illusion. It really is. And a lot of the neuroscientists, there's someone, Dr. Neil Seth, I believe
Starting point is 00:01:26 his name is, he is a neuroscientist and he actually studies the neuroscience of reality. And his work is really cool. I was reading this article about it, which was really cool. And basically, they say that reality is a controlled hallucination. And if you're watching the video, you see me putting like air quotes. It's a controlled hallucination. And controlled, meaning that the general consensus of what everybody sees is the same. That is because our brains evolved the same way to observe reality and to survive in this world as human beings. But for example, other animals like birds, they see an entirely different spectrum of light. An entire different spectrum of light. They actually can see the UV spectrum. So when they open their eyes and they're flying around,
Starting point is 00:02:08 they see something completely different than what we see. And I think that's just really cool. And there are other examples of that as well. I just love the birds is like an easy example of that. I used to work in a research lab studying vision and studying color vision. My part in it was just data analysis and learning how to code and run data analysis in MATLAB and do coding and stuff, which wasn't the most fun, but I will say the findings were really cool. And I still talk about that work to this day. So definitely happen for a reason. And we'll talk about that right here in a second. But in order to understand how to create your own reality and how to manifest the reality of your dreams, you really need to understand what reality is in the first place.
Starting point is 00:02:50 And when you understand what reality is in the first place, then you can start to understand how to create yours. And when I describe to you the neuroscience of reality, it will become very clear why I always say you are always manifesting based upon the way that your brain is wired. And you'll understand the neuro science of reality. And you'll understand the neuroscience of the concept you are always manifesting, because your brain is always constructing your reality.
Starting point is 00:03:18 Your brain is always creating your reality. Everything that you've ever experienced has happened in your mind. Please just sit back and like really understand and conceive that. Everything that you've ever experienced has happened in your mind. And so with that, I will say a concept of external reality is just an illusion. And there is the laws of duality and things like that. But the truth of the matter is we have no idea what exists out there. We have no idea what exists in the external world because we have no way to observe the external world without filtering it through our brains.
Starting point is 00:04:01 You can't leave your brain and go look at what the world looks like. You can't do that. You have to look at it through your brain. And your eyes are actually a part of your brain in case you didn't know that. Your eyes are actually your brain. Your retinas are. With all that being said, it's really important to just understand that right away. The idea of there being an external reality is really just an illusion.
Starting point is 00:04:22 And as soon as you can tap into that, then you can realize, okay, wow, yeah, my brain is extremely important because my brain constructs the reality that I live in every day. And it constructs all of your experiences, everything that you've ever experienced, everything that you've ever seen, heard, touched, felt, it is all happened through your brain. So the reality that you know does not exist outside of your mind. It doesn't exist outside of your brain. It exists inside of you. And that's it. And I posted that on my story the other day. And someone split up and they were like, this is only partially true. Like a rock exists out there. A rock does not exist out there. Matter exists out there. I've done some really deep research on the neuroscience of
Starting point is 00:05:00 reality. And there's actually this thought ideology that there are primary and secondary qualities to the universe, to the world, or to our experience of reality, right? Primary qualities being matter, right? Like particles matter, physics, quantum physics and stuff like that. So those are primary qualities, right? A bus is there. Like, you can't just walk in front of a bus and not get hit. A bus is there. That's matter, like it's there. But a bus is not a bus, right? It's just matter. And that's the secondary quality, right? So the secondary quality is basically like color. Color does not exist outside of the mind. We're going to dive into the neuroscience of this right now in a second. But basically, I digress with all that being said, yes, there are particles and atoms out there in
Starting point is 00:05:45 physical reality, but it doesn't have any meaning at all until it gets processed by our brains. And that's actually all that is out there are particles and wavelengths of light and vibrations like frequencies. That's literally it. That's literally all that's out there. So I'm going to tell you a little bit now about the visual system because I think learning about the neuroscience of the visual system will really help you conceptualize this. It's very easy to think that we see the world the same way that a camera sees the world, right? Like when you lift up your phone and you take a picture, you see the object and then the camera sees it and it takes a picture of it. And it's easy to think that's how our brains work and that's how the visual system works, but that is not how it works at all.
Starting point is 00:06:28 like at all. What happens is there are dots and lines and particles and atoms and wavelengths of light and vibrations, right? And contrast. Your eyes, they don't see anything. They actually just take in this information. They just take in information on movement and positioning and particles and all that. They just take it in. They take in the wavelengths of light. And then all of that information travels through the brain and your thoughts, your mindset, your beliefs, your memories, your conditioning, how you grew up. All of that is incorporated before the image is put together that you see. That's why on days when you're feeling super confident, you look in the mirror and you're like, damn, I look good. On days you're not feeling so confident, you look in the mirror and you don't like the way that you
Starting point is 00:07:17 look. You look the same. Your brain is putting together the image differently because your mindset is different. Your feelings are different. Your emotions are different. So, many things play into the way the image is put together. So we can talk a little bit about color now, and I think that color is a really cool example, and there are lots of optical illusions that show this. Hopefully I can get an editor to like put some images up here if you're watching the video. The way that color works is that color actually does not exist outside in the physical world, right? So color is actually assigned afterward. It's assigned in the brain and the brain constructs color. And if you think about it, it's pretty easy to conceptualize, like the fact that people who are wired different
Starting point is 00:07:55 Like, for example, there are people that are considered colorblind. They're just, their genetics are a little bit different. The cones in their eyes are a little bit different, and cones are our color detecting cells. The cones are color detecting. Cones are just wavelengths of light detecting cells. So these cells actually just detect certain wavelengths of light. And they are cones just are a little different. And so their brain constructs color differently.
Starting point is 00:08:19 Research shows, science shows that no two people see color the exact same way. because no two people have the exact same brain. And I've said this before and someone was like, what about identical twins and twin studies? I haven't seen this research in identical twins, so I couldn't necessarily say this. But back whenever I was in college and I was working in this color vision lab,
Starting point is 00:08:39 I actually did work and I didn't collect any of this data. I just analyzed the data. But they had like the genotypes of different monkeys in the rainforest and these were like wild monkeys out in the rainforest. The professor of the lab literally traveled to Costa Rica or wherever he went. I'm not, I don't really remember, but he traveled to the forest to collect this data. And basically, we took genotypes of the different monkeys and the kind of the genotypes of the cones in their eyes.
Starting point is 00:09:05 I don't know how they collected that data. So don't ask me how they got that data. But what I did is I took the genotypes and I did something called a quantum catch. And what we did was we actually took the information of like different fruits in the rainforest. The illuminants is the fancy word for it. but it's the luminance of the different fruits in the rainforest. After doing a lot of data processing and coding, we could plot on a color spectrum
Starting point is 00:09:29 how different monkeys would perceive different colored fruits in the rainforest. And I saw that different monkeys with different genotypes actually perceived these fruits differently, depending on the genotypes of the cones in their eyes. Now, we are not monkeys, but the same concept does apply for human beings. It's definitely a lot more complicated, but the way that we grow up actually does determine the way that we see color.
Starting point is 00:09:56 And it's similar to language. I don't know if anybody has ever heard of this research before, but in different cultures, let's say, like, there are specific cultures where they have multiple different words for the word love. And I know here, where I'm from, I just know the word love, right? I was just taught the word love. But there are other cultures where there are multiple different words in terms for love. And so they feel love differently.
Starting point is 00:10:21 They feel it a lot different. They feel it differently, and they're able to feel different aspects of love and different kind of ways of feeling it, right? And that's because their language helped them develop a way of feeling and compartmentalizing and differentiating these feelings. And so with that being said, the way that you grow up also does have an effect on the way that you see color. They've actually, like way back in the day, back when this was legal, they don't do it
Starting point is 00:10:49 because for ethical reasons anymore, but they would raise cats and different animals in rooms with either striped horizontal lines or vertical lines. And they would see that after they were raised and developed, they would take them out of these environments. And they would only be able to see reality a certain way. Another example of the way kind of the visual system really does have an impact on the way that we see the world and how the brain kind of is responsible for putting together the image that we see in humans is body dysmorphia. And research actually shows that the anterior brain areas like the anterior cingulate cortex are involved in body dysmorphia. People who have body dysmorphia, they see themselves differently.
Starting point is 00:11:30 They see themselves in a way that other people do not see them. They actually have differences in activity in the anterior cingulate cortex. That's one brain area that is involved in self-perception and also putting together the image that we see. And I got off the topic of color, but I do want to bring up some color examples. I know you guys remember the dress. And if you don't remember the dress, I need you to look up the dress. An editor, this is where I need you to come in and put a picture of the dress right here. So this dress got so famous because it was, I think it went super viral because some people saw it as white and gold and some people saw it as blue and black.
Starting point is 00:12:08 Obviously, it's the same picture. The only difference, it was how people's brains were estimating the way the image should be put together. people's brains were making different guesses and they were taking in different levels of context people's brains guessed oh this is an overexposed image and therefore the colors are this other people's brains guessed oh the brain is in a shadow and so the colors are this and so people's brains assumed and guessed the context and therefore they saw completely different things now i'm sure you've probably experienced this in your life maybe you've had a conversation or a disagreement or a misunderstanding or a misunderstanding understanding with someone and your brains assumed different contexts. They guessed different contexts and therefore you experienced entirely different versions of the conversation. It happens all the time. There's one more example that I want to put up here on the screen and it is these two gray blocks. Now just from first glance, it looks like these two blocks are two different colors of gray, right? Two different shades of gray. But when you use your finger and cover up the line that separates them,
Starting point is 00:13:14 you can then see that they're actually the exact same color. Again, optical illusion, and optical illusions are cool because they really show that the brain is always just guessing and assuming what's there and filling in the gap. And so the visual system is a really simple and clear example of that, but it is true for all of our senses, not just vision. For example, sound, the noise that we hear. Noise does not exist out there. I made a video about this once and it triggered a lot of people, and I said,
Starting point is 00:13:44 said, you know, the saying, like, if a tree falls in the forest and there's no one there to hear, it doesn't make a sound. Okay, and that includes animals and stuff like that. If there was nobody in the forest with ears, would it make a sound? When the tree fell, this is assuming that it happened, right? Because there are people that will argue it didn't even happen or it doesn't exist if there's no observation, right? Let's just forget about that for a second. If there was nobody there to hear it and the tree fell, let's say there was someone who was deaf that was there and the tree fell. That's the only person that could somewhat observed it, right? So what happened? There was a vibration, right? A sound wave was emitted. A vibration. And someone who was deaf could feel that vibration. They could feel the vibration. But could they hear, would they hear a sound? No. Because sound or noise is constructed by the brain. The way that the auditory system works actually took a cognitive psychology music class, which is why I love talking about the neuroscience of frequencies and how they can help our brain. The membrane in our ear is actually organized by frequency. And we have hair cells in our ear that vibrate.
Starting point is 00:14:44 when the vibrations hit them. And then those vibrations correspond to different frequencies and the brain constructs the noise that we hear. Noise does not exist out there. Sound waves or vibrations exist. Okay, so let's just another example of how the brain is constructing our reality. And then lastly, I do just want to wrap this up,
Starting point is 00:15:02 the neuroscience of reality, because I do want to get to the part where we could talk about creating our reality and things like that. And I'm going to give you my top three tips for how to create your reality and begin to construct your reality in the way that you want it, right?
Starting point is 00:15:14 because the brain is always constructing reality now that you're starting to get this. The brain is always constructing reality. The goal is just to reprogram the brain so that it constructs the reality that we want to experience. But lastly, I really just like to talk about this analogy. But your brain works just like the social media algorithm where when you're thinking about something, you're talking about it, you're Googling it, you're talking about it to your friends, maybe even you're complaining about it. Your brain is then going to look and filter reality because your brain is always filtering reality.
Starting point is 00:15:40 the human body sends around 11 million bits of information per second to the brain for processing and the conscious mind only experiences 40 to 60 bits per second of information. So over 99% of reality in every second is being filtered out by your brain. You do not experience reality. You experience your brain's version of it. You experience your brain's version of it. And that version depends on the way that you are programmed, on your beliefs, on your mindset, on the way that you look at the world on your conditioning,
Starting point is 00:16:16 and that's why shadow work is so important. We can do probably a whole podcast episode on different ways to disrupt or dismantle different limiting beliefs. All beliefs are limiting beliefs, every single one of them. Reprogramming and rewiring kind of your belief systems is extremely important. That is what changed my life. Two months ago, I had a conversation with someone that I've looked up to for a long time. He asked me, he said,
Starting point is 00:16:39 what was the one thing that helped you go from being stuck to creating the life of your dreams? What was the shift that allowed you to make all of your dreams come true? And I said, easy, my beliefs. I remember learning that my beliefs create my reality. That was the one thing that allowed me to shift everything. That was just the first step, right? That was gaining awareness that, oh, wow, my beliefs, whether they are beliefs that I think are real or true, or beliefs that I think are holding me back and are limiting beliefs, no matter what I think about them,
Starting point is 00:17:08 they are actually limiting. Every belief that we have is a limiting belief because every belief puts us in a box. It's just about choosing beliefs that put us in the box we want to be in. I know I said that twice, but it's really just important to recognize that. You can choose. Like, you get to choose your beliefs. Your beliefs are the rules for your reality. I always say life is a game. We are all energy. We are all spirit. Whatever you consider yourself to be a soul. I am life force energy in a human body playing the game of human in this life. And the rules of this human game are our beliefs. I just got done telling you that your brain will literally construct images in your head based upon your beliefs. Your beliefs are integrated before the image is put together by your brain. Like you do not see reality with your
Starting point is 00:17:57 eyes. You see it with your brain with your beliefs. Your beliefs are the code to the program that your reality runs on. And so if you have a belief, for example, and this might trigger some people, but I'm going to say it anyway. I was listening to this video on YouTube, Abraham Hicks video. She was talking about beliefs and how there are people that walk around talking about how the economy sucks. Oh, the economy sucks. It's so bad. Nobody can thrive in this economy.
Starting point is 00:18:21 And what she said in the video was, but there are people who are thriving in this economy. So why wouldn't you just choose to believe that you could be one of those people too? And like I said, I know that's going to trigger some people. And it triggered me when I first heard it, but it's the truth. Whether you say you can or you say you can't, you are right. And so after that, I really just doubled and tripled down on reprogramming my beliefs. And this is lifelong work. Okay.
Starting point is 00:18:44 This is not like an overnight thing. To this day, every time I set a new goal, I've told you guys before, like with starting this podcast. Like every time I want to level up, I have to dig up old beliefs that aren't serving me anymore. Every time. And so this really is lifelong work. And as always, take what resonates with you and leave what doesn't. I'm not here trying to tell you everything I'm saying is facts for your life. I'm telling you all of this is facts for my life.
Starting point is 00:19:12 And so your beliefs really do shape your reality. So choose beliefs. And like I said, we could do a whole episode on how to reprogram your beliefs and shadow work and all of that. But I do just want to say right now, chat GPT is your friend when it comes to shadow work and uncovering limiting beliefs. I have a prompt and I'll just give it to you like right now at the top of my head. I'm trying to remember it.
Starting point is 00:19:30 And this is the prompt. Act as my neuroscience and manifestation coach. and can you please i always start that way can you please act as my neuroscience and manifestation coach and one by one ask me questions to help me get to the root of my blocks around making more money for example fill in the blank whatever it is making more money is just the example help me get to the root of my limiting beliefs around money word for word to do that and fill in the blank it doesn't have to be money it can be whatever you want it to be and i've done this before it really helps it asks you questions one by one to help you get to the root of where these beliefs came from. And then it also
Starting point is 00:20:06 can help you rewrite the story, create some affirmations, some mantras, whatever it is. So that would be my number one tip for digging up old beliefs and reprogramming your brain when it comes to your beliefs. But please do recognize that you do get to choose your beliefs. Like you can choose them. I grew up hearing money doesn't go on trees. We don't have enough. Oh, la, la, la, blah, money's hard to make. You have to work for money. You got to work hard. I grew up hearing, we don't have enough. We can't afford that. Money doesn't go on trees. Or you don't need to work hard for money. Please understand this right now and this might trigger you too. But here's a belief. Switch up for you right now. You do not have to work for money.
Starting point is 00:20:39 You don't have to. It can actually just come to you randomly if you let it, if you're open to it. And I've talked about this before too. Research actually shows this too. I posted on this on Instagram today actually. So this is going to show when I'm recording this podcast. But anyway, literally five different research studies I cited in the caption of this video, talking about how research shows that your self-worth is actually tied to your income and financial status and they that's controlling for IQ for background for socioeconomic status for all those things they controlled for all of that meaning they took all that they took all that out and even when you control for all of those things within these different groups it holds true I did this in my
Starting point is 00:21:20 own life like when I wanted to start making more money I've done shadow work plenty of times like from the beginning. But most recently, when I wanted to level up and break this new barrier, I realized that I had this internal guilt. Like, I felt guilty asking for more. I felt guilty. Charging my worth. And I felt guilty. I had to do some work on my beliefs around my worthiness. And my worthiness of receiving for doing nothing, realizing I don't have to do more. I don't have to, like, work harder or do more or provide more value in order to be worth more. I can actually just be worth more if I decide I'm worth more. That decision alone allowed me to make more money. The decision and awareness alone. Your energy speaks the loudest. Your energy speaks the loudest.
Starting point is 00:22:05 It speaks louder than any hard work that you're ever going to do. Your energy speaks so loud. And a lot of people will say, oh, manifestation isn't real. You have to put in the work too. Yeah, of course, there is like a physical component where you need to put in the work. But I also want to say, and myth bust right now, there are times when you don't have to put in the work. Someone joined my program just a few weeks ago. Finances were a little bit of an unsteady thing for him. And we worked, we did some work on his self-worth, on his energy. And literally, his grandma went to the casino, made a whole bunch of money, and then just gave money to him. Money can just actually come to you from any unexpected way if you work on your energy and your beliefs and your worthiness. It really can.
Starting point is 00:22:52 That's number one, that all beliefs are limiting beliefs and working on your belief systems is going to be extremely important for creating your reality. Because remember, your beliefs are the code that your reality runs on. Let's talk about number two. And it's self-talk. Your self-talk is extremely important. Also, of course, because it plays into your beliefs. It also plays into your worthiness, right, and your beliefs around your worthiness. And also around your energy.
Starting point is 00:23:15 Because let's say, if you're walking around hanging out with a friend all day long, and this friend is always criticized. you and judging you and putting you down and telling you that you're not doing enough, you're not working hard enough, oh, you messed up, oh, this and that. How would you feel? You would feel stressed and annoyed and overwhelmed and be like, please just leave me alone. If that is the voice in your head, that is how you're feeling and you don't even realize it. I posted about this recently too and someone commented and they were like, but what if it doesn't actually stress me out? I think that a lot of people walk around and asking questions about brain fog or feeling overwhelmed or feeling like unable to focus.
Starting point is 00:23:56 If the voice in your head is not a cheerleader doesn't act like your best friend, that will lead to brain fog and not being able to focus and overwhelm and things like that. Because if somebody was following you around all day long judging and criticizing you, that would be hard to think clearly. And I'll just give you a little bit of the science behind that right now. It boosts cortisol, right? It boosts the stress hormone. And being stressed, and I don't want to scare anyone,
Starting point is 00:24:25 like being stressed sometimes is good. It's a good thing. There is a certain amount of stress that actually is really good. It's good to be stressed out sometimes. And it's good to put your body under stress and hormesis and things like that. It is good to be stressed at times. But if you are constantly, but if the voice in your head is a voice that is stressing you out, that's not being stressed sometimes.
Starting point is 00:24:43 That's chronic stress. And chronic stress leads to disease and negative health outcome. Okay? So that's actually harmful and actually chronic stress can lead to your prefrontal cortex Not being able to function the way that you wanted to and you're not able to think clearly You're not able to be productive with that being said your self-talk is extremely important Your self-talk can also boost dopamine and I love dopamine dopamine. Dopamine is great makes us feel good helps us be more productive helps to motivate us and things like that Imagine you have a cheerleader hyping you up all day long that's going to boost your dopamine when your best friend hypes you up tells you like you're so
Starting point is 00:25:19 valuable, you're amazing. You're incredible. I love you. You're doing great. That boosts dopamine. So why wouldn't you talk to yourself like that? Boost your own dopamine and then go get after it. You have that ability. You have that ability to boost dopamine with your words to yourself. You have that ability. You are so powerful. Okay. So please, if you haven't today, pause and say out loud, now I am amazing and I'm doing a great job. I'm doing great because fun fact you are doing great. Okay. You are. You are great and you are enough and you are amazing. You are amazing. You are incredible. You are literally incredible. You are a magical being. You are divine life force, energy in a human body like truthfully. Like you are incredible. So you need to start acting like it and
Starting point is 00:26:15 you start talking to yourself like it. And yeah, I have a little bit of that mindset too where I feel like I need just to do more. That creeps in sometimes for me as well. So I don't want to be over here acting like I'm perfect. I don't want to be over here acting like I have this like perfect voice inside of my head. No, it creeps up sometimes, but that's not a bad thing either. I don't think that's a bad thing either. Having a voice in your head that creeps up that's that motivates you and pushes you. Okay. But there's a balance. There's a balance. You get it. Self talk is important. We get it. But how do I start to talk to myself kindly. How do I do start with this work? Okay. First things first, when I first began this journey of working on my beliefs and my mindset and all these things, I got up every single morning
Starting point is 00:27:00 and I went outside for a walk and I listened to positive affirmations. I don't care if you think it's woo. It's really actually necessary. Like it's necessary if you don't talk to yourself kindly. It is necessary. If you are not your own biggest cheerleader and supporter, it's necessary. Listen to positive affirmations every day and your life will change. And if you are a man listening to this and you think it's like girly or woo, there are man tracks. Sorry. That just sounded so crazy the way that I said it. But I say that just to say that I have guy friends and they think it's like girly or like feminine or whatever it is. But I have a playlist on YouTube with all of my favorite affirmation tracks and a lot of them are actually like male voices. I have female voices as well. They're both great.
Starting point is 00:27:46 I actually have my own tracks as well too. So you can go to Spotify, go to Apple Music, wherever you listen to music, and they are there. It's just I'm on the brain. That's my artist's name. And so with all that being said, affirmations are so powerful to help you practice talking to yourself kindly. You would not expect to be good at something that you didn't practice. You wouldn't go to play soccer and expect to automatically be good if you never practiced. So why are you expecting to automatically talk to yourself kindly if you don't practice?
Starting point is 00:28:19 You have to practice. And affirmations are practice. They are the gym. They are going to the gym for yourself talk. You have to do it. I even still do it. I listen to affirmation music all the time. So my favorite artist, Chris and Teab.
Starting point is 00:28:32 Shout out Chris and Teab. Great music. Another one, Tony Jones. Love Tony Jones. But those are two artists that are affirmation music. But there is this one song that it's, I know that if I just manifest and work towards it, What's meant for me will be for me and it will come to me. And it's just like a fire beat and it's just fun.
Starting point is 00:28:49 It's just fun. All right. And on that note, fun is a frequency. Fun is actually an extremely magnetic energy. You're always practicing something. I say that all the time too. You are always practicing something because every thought, everything that you're doing is strengthening a certain neural pathway in your brain.
Starting point is 00:29:08 If you are insulting yourself, if you are judging yourself, if you are criticizing yourself, Also, if you're insulting or judging or criticizing other people, that is a direct reflection of what you are doing to yourself. So it's also nice to also practice not judging and criticizing other people for that matter. Let's do that too. And I actually have recognized that when I started to accept every part of me without judging myself or criticizing myself and just loved and accepted every part of me for my flaws and all, it helped with my relationships with other people as well. I didn't expect other people to be perfect. I stopped judging and criticizing others. And it works vice versa, right?
Starting point is 00:29:47 When you stop judging and criticizing other people and expecting other people to be perfect or live up to your expectation of who you think they should be, you stop holding yourself to that. And it's really important with all that being said, you've got to practice, you're always practicing something. You are always strengthening a neural pathway in your brain that represents something with every thought that you have. And with that being said, I want to give you one more tip for yourself.
Starting point is 00:30:10 self-talk to practice because if you are insulting yourself, if you judge or criticize yourself, even if you do something and as a joke, you're like, oh, I'm so dumb, I'm an idiot. Stop and give yourself five compliments. I call it the five put-ups method. And what that does is it takes the power away from the insults, from the judgment, from inner critic. And our brains tend to have a negativity bias where we give a lot more energy and power to negative thoughts and criticism and things like that and that's a survival mechanism for sure because we evolved to our brain evolved to protect us and so it needs to be hyper aware of potential threats when you think a negative thought whatever it is stop and give yourself five compliments right there and then you have to do it and that will strengthen the circuits
Starting point is 00:30:55 for positive self-talk and just over time it will be really helpful so those are my two kind of main tips for self-talk and i want to give one more tip a third and final point for reprogramming your brain to create your reality. The third tip is to regulate your nervous system and overall somatic health. This just goes, and I think it just flies so far under the radar when we talk about mindset work. And maybe you're on this wave, so it's just like obvious to you. But for me, growing up, I had a lot of hormonal imbalance. I had gut issues. I had a lot of things that were affecting me. And this might seem obvious to you if you're already on this wave. But for me growing up, I grew up with a lot of gut health issues, physical health issues, and hormonal imbalances and
Starting point is 00:31:41 things like that that really affected my mental health and my mind. I started doing this when I was in high school, but before I even knew the power of the fact that your gut is your second brain, and I realized, like, the way that I eat really does impact the way that I feel and the way that I think and the way that I function and my energy levels and all these things. And so a huge component to creating the life that you want to live is, you're going to live. regulating your overall nervous system. And your nervous system is not just the brain and spinal cord. That's the central nervous system. There are so many components to your nervous system.
Starting point is 00:32:18 You've got the enteric nervous system, which is the nervous system of your gut, and it's often considered the second brain. You also have the cardiac nervous system. In your heart, you have the peripheral nervous system and your body. The vagus nerve is extremely important. Your heart rate variability is extremely important. Heart rate variability has actually been linked to your intuition. And so the health of your body is extremely important. And in today's age, and when the world today, it's very common to be chronically stressed and overworked and putting your body through a lot. And that very much does keep us from manifesting and creating the life that we want to live. And so your body being in like in good,
Starting point is 00:33:05 physical shape is very important for creating your physical reality. And so, of course, I'm not a gut health expert. I know the neuroscience of the enteric nervous system. And I studied pharmacology as well for a while. So I do know how like different foods and things impact us. Nutrition is just such an individual thing. Honestly, everything is an individual thing. And so I like bio individuality is a really important concept that I know and understand that what's true for me might not be what is true for you and that's okay. Like I'm not sitting here trying to tell you that everything that I'm saying is going to be accurate and representative of your life. That is not the case at all. But anyway, when it comes to nutrition, I will say that really just practicing intuitive eating
Starting point is 00:33:51 and of course understanding how different foods make you feel, but you can eat for motivation. You can eat foods high and altirazine that actually helps to your body to build more dopamine. And maybe you want to relax and you want to eat foods high in eltryptophan because L-triptophan is a precursor and a building block of serotonin, which will help you feel more stable and grounded. And so just with that being said, you can eat and drink things to help you feel certain ways. A lot of people already know this, but most of your serotonin is made in your gut. It is.
Starting point is 00:34:28 And so if you are not fueling your body correctly, It's going to be really hard to feel stable and grateful and grounded and emotionally regulated if you're not taking care of your gut health. And so that's just one component to it. But moving your body is really important as well. There's the really popular book, The Body Keeps the Score, where the idea that trauma is stored in the body and things like that, the peripheral nervous system is a very important part to creating a reality.
Starting point is 00:34:57 And we just talked about how our beliefs are really important for how we go throughout life and how we see the world and how we experience the world and the way that we move through the world. If you have things that are limiting beliefs or traumas that are stored deep down in you or maybe in your peripheral nervous system and things, that is going to affect and impact how you move. Like, those are our triggers and different things like that. It will, of course, you've probably experienced it. It does impact the way that we feel and the way that we do things and the way that we experience conversations and environments and things like that.
Starting point is 00:35:30 and movement can be really helpful. This is where somatic release and somatic work can be really helpful. And so with all of that being said, I just wanted to give those three examples because I think that those are three things that maybe a lot of people don't think about when it comes to manifestation and creating your reality. And when I think about manifestation and creating your reality, I really think about all of the components and all of the factors that come into play when the brain is constructing the reality that we experience. And there are just so many different components to how that so many
Starting point is 00:36:06 different factors at play when we think about how the brain is constructing reality. And I talked a lot about a lot of different ones today. But there are, of course, many more. And that's why I have my master class that I host when I talk about the neuroscience of the subconscious, because the subconscious mind, it really does rule. It really does. It really does take it. It's our autopilot and just all of these things and our beliefs and everything like that. It really is our operating. And it really is our system and how we move through life. And the subconscious mind is not one thing. It is made up of multiple different components, many different parts of the brain and nervous system. And you really do need to reprogram and balance and heal, quote unquote, all of the different systems or optimize
Starting point is 00:36:46 all of the different systems if you want to be able to manifest your dream life. And so with all that being said, you can absolutely create the life of your dreams. You can. Your brain is always creating your reality, you are always manifesting. All you need to do is change the way that your brain is constructing the reality that you're living in and all of a sudden the reality that you're living in changes. That's it. I always say this. The only thing that's keeping you from living your dream reality is you. Quite literally, it's you. It's your brain. And so when you learn to reprogram your brain, that's when your reality completely shifts. And so for me, manifestation, and creating your reality, it's not about changing anything in the physical world.
Starting point is 00:37:35 It has nothing to do with the physical world. And it has everything to do with reprogramming my brain and getting my energy right. And really getting my energy in alignment with who I am, with my highest self, with my authenticity. And authenticity was my word of the year. And I really think that, and I know that when you are in alignment with yourself, with your authentic self, that's when the world is in alignment with you. And that's when everything just falls into place. It all has to happen from within first. Physical reality happens second. Your internal reality happens first. And so shifting your internal reality, your internal world,
Starting point is 00:38:17 is how you shift the external world. And that's where I completely disagree with a lot of different kind of manifestation definitions that I've come across. And maybe they've changed in the past, in the past, the most recent times, but in the past, I really struggled with manifestation because everybody talked about manifesting or creating your reality and visualizing and things like that, but manifestation has nothing to do with changing the physical world. It has nothing to do with changing your physical reality. Because again, physical reality, the physical world is an illusion. It's a construct made up by the brain. So don't try to change the physical world. Change yourself. There's a quote by I believe and he says once I was smart so I decided to change the world then I was wise
Starting point is 00:39:02 so I decided to change myself it has to happen within you first and that's where I think a lot of people including myself struggle with manifestation or I struggled I don't anymore I'm under the full belief that I can manifest anything that I want but I'm really here to help you get to that point too so with all of that being said I love you guys so much and I hope that this was helpful and I know that you have the power to create your dream life. Like, I know it. And all it's going to take is you doing the work, stepping up to the plate. And I know that you have the power to create your dream life. As always, right now, I am currently hosting master classes teaching you how to reprogram every single individual part of your subconscious mind, all the different parts of your nervous system, all the different parts of your brain.
Starting point is 00:39:55 And so if you want to come to a live class with me, they're usually around an hour and a half long. And so I go in depth. But if you want to come to a class hosted by me, also I do live Q&As at the end. And so I love answering all of your questions. And I get such good ideas for content too at the end. Love talking to all of you guys so much. And so yeah, if you want to come to a live class hosted by me where I teach you all of that and answer your questions at the end, the link is going to be in the show notes to register.
Starting point is 00:40:23 and I am sending you all so much love, so much love and light and energy. And I just want you to know that I believe in you. And so if you feel like nobody believes in you, I believe in you. And I will see you in the next episode.
