Let's take a look at the most added players on CBS up next on Fantasy Baseball Today Express.
Welcome in to FBT Express on Tuesday, June 17th.
I am Frank Stamfield, joined by Chris Towers, and let's start with the most added hitters in CBS leagues.
Evan Carter, up to 66% roster, Giancarlo Stanton, up to 57%, and Joe Adele is up to 54%.
Chris, how would you rank those three?
Carter, Stanton, Adele.
Carter, Adel.
I think is how I would go.
And look,
Stanton made his season debut on Monday,
and he did some Stantonian things.
He had three batted balls of at least 101 miles per hour,
including his single,
which was hit 111.1 miles per hour.
Already, after one game,
he's in the 73rd percentile among major leaguers
and max exit velocity.
I suspect before long,
he will be in the top two or three total,
because that's every single season
of John Carlos Stanton's,
career. And it was good to get confirmation that he is still capable of hitting the ball really,
really hard after missing so much time with those elbow injuries. The problem is he's 57% rostered,
you said? Yep. I just don't think there are a lot of leagues left where he's really going to matter
unless he's just a lot better than I expect him to be because it's a DH only bat who's not
going to play every day, who's going to have strikeout issues. I just don't think he's going to
matter in most points leagues.
So I think Stanton's roster rate is probably about as high as I could
comfortably sell, set it right now.
Let's talk about Alejandro Kirk, who is hitting something like 380 over the past month.
He is 60% rostered.
And I know he was among Scott's sleeper hitters this current week right now.
What do you think about Alejandro Kirk, Chris?
Are you buying this past month or so from him?
Well, no.
He's hitting like 365 over the past month.
I think since the start of May, actually, he's hitting around 360.
I don't think Alejandro Kirk is a 360 hitter.
I do think like the 315 batting average for the season, it's backed up by a 308XBA.
And, you know, we talked a lot on the full show about how expected stats might be a little inflated this season because the baseball is producing more drag than usual.
that's mostly going to affect fly balls
and Alejandro Kirk just doesn't hit a lot of fly balls.
He hits a lot of ground balls.
He hits a lot of line drives.
He hits them hard.
So he's not necessarily someone who,
when you look at the expected stats,
you expect them to really underperform.
It's just that catcher is so deep
that even with as well as Alejandro Kirk is playing,
I don't know if he's a top 12 option at the position.
I don't rank him that way, and in head-to-head points league, he only has 17 runs and 31 RBI on the season, despite playing not quite every day, but about 80% of the time it looks like.
So I just have trouble seeing Alejandro Kirk being a top 12 catcher in a weird year for catcher where guys like Hunter Goodman and Augustine Ramirez and Yvonne Herrera have broken out.
I'd rather have all three of those guys than Alejandro Kirk.
Two prospect promotions, recent prospect promotions in deeper leagues,
would you be looking to speculate on either one?
Christian Moore of the Angels, Brady House of the Nationals.
You can say neither.
I think both are moderately interesting.
I don't love either of them.
I don't think they're necessarily superstars,
but they don't have to be superstars to be viable fantasy options.
I'm more interested in more.
I think he's got legitimate power for a middle end field.
and I think that's going to play in the long run.
And I think there's a little bit of speed there as well.
I think the ceiling for Christian Moore is kind of like a flip-flop version of what we've gotten from Zachary Netto.
Since the start of last season, probably a little more power, less speed.
But if Netto went 30 or 2030 last year, maybe a fully realized version of Christian Moore is more like 2520.
But I think that should be really useful in fantasy if he avoids strikeouts.
more has a lot of upside.
I think it's worth speculating on.
All right, let's take a quick break,
and we'll be back right after this.
Welcome back in the FBT Express.
Let's slide over to Waverwire pitchers
that stood out from Monday.
We had Lucas Gielito with a 10 strikeout outing
at the Mariners, six shotout innings in this one.
He had 18 whiffs on 91 pitches.
Velocity was up in the start as well.
And Jose Soriano, a great outing at the Yankees,
seven shutout with six strikeouts.
had 14 wits on 101 pitches.
Did a great job throwing strikes.
And this is now two seven inning quality starts in a row for Jose Soriano.
Chris, who do you like more?
Or who would you rather take a shot on between Gialito and Jose Soriano?
Yeah, usually if you're putting it as who would you rather take a shot on,
I'm thinking about upside.
And I think Gialito has more upside because I have more faith in the strikeout
upside being here.
Soriano, because he's got such a high ground ball rate and has,
legit strikeout upside of his own.
I want to be clear because his curveball and his splitter have been really good
with pitches over the past couple of years.
I think there is some upside here.
But if Gileo can sit at 94 miles per hour plus with the extension that he's generating,
the movement on the fastball, I think that's going to be a good pitch.
And it mostly has been this season.
It's just that the slider and changeup have been very bad until this start.
He got nine combined whiffs with the both with the two of those pitch.
on his way to those 18 that he had.
And if those pitches can be 30% whiff rate pitches with his fastball,
I do think League of Shilito can be pretty good.
It's just we've only seen one start of this.
So I'm very skeptical.
I would take the over on a four ERA the rest of the way.
But if we're just talking upside,
I think Gialito reminded us on Monday that after all he's been through,
he still has some.
Some names in deeper leagues that stood out
from the weekend.
Brandon and Walter,
Mike Burroughs,
Ryan Gusto
pitched well on Monday,
and Jacob Lopez of the athletics.
Chris,
any of those names stand out
to you in deeper leagues?
I think Walter
is probably the most interesting
of the group.
It's a low velocity fastball,
but he does some pretty good stuff
with it.
The overall,
it's a deep arsenal
with some swing and miss potential.
You said Gusto,
Lopez, and who was the other one?
Mike Burroughs.
I also think Mike Burroughs has actually kind of gotten short shrift from the fantasy community a little bit.
I've said this before, but I think because we've been waiting since March for Bubba Chandler get promoted,
when we saw a Pirate's prospect get promoted who wasn't Bubba Chandler,
I think everybody was just annoyed and didn't actually look at the fact that Mike Burroughs is a pretty decent prospect in his own right.
He's gotten strikeouts at the minor league level.
He's had some success.
And the last couple of starts for him have been pretty good.
So I do think Mike Burroughs not must roster, certainly being on a bad pirates team,
but I do think Mike Burroughs is an interesting talent who's got some fantasy appeal.
Some of the most added relievers right now.
If you need saves, Shower League, Shelby Miller, obviously he's the number one to go after.
Justin Martinez is having Tommy John surgery.
AJ Puck is still out.
So Shelby Miller is just by default, the go-to guy for the debacks right now.
If you are speculating on saves, Chris, in deeper leagues, Calvin Fosha,
Dylan Lee of the Braves, any of the Phillies, Matchstrom, O'Ryan Kirkering,
any of those names stand out to you?
All NLEs, by the way.
I think the problem, yeah, great for your NL East leagues.
I think the problem with the Phillies is Matt Strom is the best pitcher in that bullpen now
with Jose Alvarado out.
But I just don't know if they want to trust him,
especially with Alvarado out because that's one.
elite lefty down.
And it leaves them
a little shorthanded in that area.
So I don't know
if they're going to trust Matt Strom
to be a full-time closer
or if they want to keep him more
as a fireman.
So I do think I might
prioritize Ryan Kirkering
over the Braves and Marlins guys
just because one,
the Marlins just aren't going to get a lot of saves.
I think Fosha is the closer right now,
but I'm not convinced he's good
and I don't think they're going to get a lot of saves.
Dylan Lee,
I just have no confidence
that he's actually going to be the guy moving forward.
I would think before long
if Ricell Iglesias continues to put together
you know, it's been a couple of good addings in a row
if he does that, you know,
two or three more times.
I think he probably just ends up the closer again.
So Kirkering has a path and some talent.
I haven't been super impressed with the strikeout rate this season especially,
but I think he could end up the closer in Philly, sure.
