Starting point is 00:00:00 Another week, still we wait for Bubba Chandler. Let's talk prospects on Fantasy Baseball Today Express. Welcome in to FPT Express on Thursday, May 22nd. I am Frank Stample, joined by Scott White. The top prospects to Stash might sound familiar. Bubba Chandler of the Pirates, Roman Anthony and Marcelo Meyer of the Red Sox, Jack Caglione of the Royals, and Jacob Miziarowski of the Brewers, Scott. When recording this, we learned that Marcelli,
Starting point is 00:00:30 Mike Burrows is getting promoted to start on Thursday instead of Bubba Chandler. And I guess the other big talking point here is that Jack Caglione has been promoted from AA to AAA. So that's pretty good. Well, there's, yeah. Yeah. I mean, and then the other big talking point is after Mick Abel's stellar debut, nine strikeouts over six shutoutnings and then unceremonious return to the miners in favor of Taiwan Walker.
Starting point is 00:00:55 I said Mick Abel would be in the top five to stash at this point. once that happened, but I couldn't get them in there because the five from last week, either they're just too good in the case of Bubba Chandler and Roman Anthony, or their stash situation is only improved from a week ago, which I believe is true for Jack Haggleone, Jacob Misersowski, and Marcelo Meyer. So let's talk about that. Bubba Chandler first. Yes, Mike Burroughs got called up in.
Starting point is 00:01:28 Instead, he was already on the 40-man roster. He, I think, has turned lined up better for the opening. And he had pretty great numbers himself, 251 ERA 105 whip and 11.4K per 9, 14% swinging strike rate, good numbers. Still, they send down Carmen Magensky. That's how you pronounce that, right? Carmen Magensky. And you think, okay, this is it.
Starting point is 00:01:55 And to have them not call up Bubba Cham, they're like, they knew. what they were doing. They knew the kind of response that would get. And it just makes me wonder if they're going to thumb their nose at us so brazenly how motivated they are to call them up at all. You know, at this point, are they just going to hold out for midseason to avoid that extra year of arbitration? Probably not. I like it. I still think it could be any day we get the Chandler, the Bubba Chandler news. But there's no guarantee of that. Still, you know, every week that passes where he's not promoted, he's in the way. another week closer to getting promoted. We've put in our weeks already. We just got to stick with them. And so that's what I'm doing here. Anthony, you know, continues to do his thing. He's hit 364 over his past 15 games.
Starting point is 00:02:44 Still incredible exit velocity readings, but no opening. There's been some talk. Maybe they can move Seidon-Refiela to a utility role to create an opening for Anthony. But Alex Cora likes... He talked about liking Raphael's process at the plate right now. And in fairness, the expected stats for Raphaelah look really good. So it doesn't sound like they're on the verge of doing that. But Anthony's too good not to stash.
Starting point is 00:03:15 Okay, so let's get into the Three Whose situation is actually improved. Marcelo Meyer, we have heard just this week that Christian Campbell is now taking grounders and working on his footwork at first base. And in fact, got a couple days off this week, I think in part because he was putting in that extra work. So it doesn't sound like he's particularly close to taking over a first base. But that seems to be the plan since Rafael Devers isn't going to do it. And since Christian Campbell's kind of a liability anywhere you put him, stick him at first base, which would free up second base, which Roman Anthony is not going to fill.
Starting point is 00:03:54 But maybe Marcel O'Meer can. He's been playing second base a lot more AAA this year. not the caliber of hitter of Anthony, but still a very good prospect in his own right. And that's why Meyer, I think, still needs to be one of the top five to stash. Caglione, you mentioned, you know, I added him to my five on the verge last week, even though he hadn't been moved up to AAA,
Starting point is 00:04:15 I just thought the impact potential was too high to leave him out there in leagues where you can afford to stash a prospect. And now Caglione is up at AAA. And in the second game there, he got another start in the outfield, right field specifically. So I think we see where this is headed. And I think it's going to be sooner than later as long as he doesn't hit a wall at AAA.
Starting point is 00:04:38 And again, his exit velocities are off the charts, as we've discussed every time we brought him up. Finally, Jacob Mizorowski. He actually made a very, like an abbreviated start here on Wednesday, only three innings. But the one prior to that, seven innings. And continues to throw strikes at a terrific rate. This is now a six-start stretch where he's thrown basically two-thirds of his pitches for strikes.
Starting point is 00:05:02 That is a huge improvement from Mizorowski's entire minor league career previously. And during that six-start stretch with two-thirds strikes, 0.80-ERA, 0.77 whip, 11.2K per 9. In that seven-inning start two turns ago, he hit 103 on the fastball. So electric talent really seems to have figured things out. the brewers are still running Quinn Priester out there every fifth day. Maybe Brandon Woodruff will be ready to go before they make the call on Mizorowski, but not necessarily. And I don't know how much Woodruff has in the tank anyway.
Starting point is 00:05:40 So I think Mizorowski absolutely in the stash conversation. All right, let's take a quick break and we'll be back right after this. Welcome back in FBT Express. Top prospects on the periphery. These are names that are making some noise lately. And we have Chase Burns, a pitcher with the Reds, Carson Wisenhunt, a pitcher with the Giants, CJ Kaffis, first baseman with the Guardians, Patrick Copen, a pitcher with the Dodgers,
Starting point is 00:06:07 and Yo Hendrick Pinyango, an outfielder with the Blue Jays. Yeah, interesting group here. So let's start with Chase Burns, who's the one everybody's heard of because he was the second pick in last year's draft. is not everything he's supposed to do so far. Is up a triple, I'm sorry, double A, up a double A, made five starts there, eight starts total. He's got between the two levels,
Starting point is 00:06:33 25227 ERA, 0.87 width, 13.9K per nine. The fastball is great. The slider is great. Looks like he has the start of a pretty good change up. Just everything you could want to pitching prospect, to the point that I hope I pronounce the guy's name, right? Jeffrey Paternastro, who is a baseball prospectus, one of the top prospectors, I would say,
Starting point is 00:07:03 and for however many years for baseball prospectus, he is saying that not only is Chase Burns the best pitching prospect in baseball, but he is anticipating potentially having him as the number one overall prospect when the mid-season rankings come out. Now, that's assuming, he said, Roman Anthony's already graduated by that point, doesn't qualify as a prospect, which is a pretty good assumption, but not a guarantee. But that's where he stands on Burns, and I think that's pretty noteworthy.
Starting point is 00:07:32 Carson Wisenhunt has really turned things around this year at AAA for the Giants. Lost quite a bit of stock last year, the stock tumbled. But at AAA this year, he has a three ERA and even one whip more than a strike up earning. But mainly what's improved for him, 72%. of his pitches for strikes, which is an insane ratio. I'm sorry, 70%. Still an insane number, a big improvement from a year ago when he had trouble finding the strike zone. And I think now that the Giants have made way for Hayden Bird's song, Carson Wis and Hunt is next.
Starting point is 00:08:10 Really good change up. A worthy prospect. CJ Kaffis for the Guardians, a first base prospect. he is slashing 359, 459, 594 between AA and AAA, 359 batting efforts, that is. And he started at AA's move to AAA. It hasn't mattered. It's been basically the same slash line at each. Great line drive hitter.
Starting point is 00:08:36 It doesn't angle the ball very well for power, and that's a difficult hurdle for a first baseman to overcome. But the hit tool here might be strong enough that C.J. KFas turns into something anyway. Patrick Copen of the Dodgers is a really interesting story because I believe it was just last year he was blinded in one eye because of something that happened off the field. I think a ball hit off his state. I can't remember exactly what happened,
Starting point is 00:09:09 but he injured himself playing baseball and blinded him in one eye. Wow. And he's still going here for the Dodgers. Dodgers and pitching really well, certainly in terms of missing bats. He has a 14.4K per 9 rate at high A this year. The only problem is he's walking a bunch of guys nearly six walks per nine, but that's improved over his last two starts.
Starting point is 00:09:31 Patrick Copen most recently two hits, one walk, 11 strikeouts, and six and two-thirds innings. So he definitely has talent. And then finally, Eohendrick Pinnago for the Blue Jopjev, Jay's real quick. Let me say that name again. Yohendrick Pinyango. Slashing 347, 456 at 597 at 97 homers, five steals.
Starting point is 00:09:58 It looks like a pop-up prospect. I don't have data, like stat-cast data for AA, but baseball America does. And they say, you know, eggs of velocities, plate discipline. They all look great for Yohendrick Pinyango. So that's somebody who needs to be on your radar too.
Starting point is 00:10:15 All right.
