Now here's Frank Scott and Chris.
This is not the start to opening day that we were looking for.
Welcome into an emergency edition of Fantasy Baseball today here on Thursday, March 26th.
I am Frank Stanfield joined by Chris Towers, bringing you some bad news.
Jackson Churio has a fractured left hand.
He was placed on the aisle and expects to return sometime in mid to late April.
All things considered, I guess this could have been worse, right?
He's only going to miss two to four weeks, assuming no setbacks.
Apparently felt it after a hit by pitch while he was playing in the WBC
and then made it worse with a check swing soon thereafter.
So kind of annoying that we're finding this out on opening day.
It feels like we probably could have found out about this sooner.
We'll get to replacements in just a little bit.
But Chris, obviously this sucks.
Trio was probably your second or third round pick if you drafted him.
And we have to worry about this lingering once he's back as well.
your thoughts on all of it how far you're lowering him in the rankings yeah that's the primary concern
i think because you know missing two to four weeks which is the the stated timetable i've seen
at the start of the season is not the worst thing in the world it's what happens if he aggravates
it what happens if he comes back but he's just not the same and i do think you have to account for
those possibilities so you know i don't know my first reaction was uh to to to quote
Frank's vocal doppelganger based on that one comment.
Once again, things that could, oh, that's not a Chris Farley quote.
That's an Adam Sandler quote.
So to quote Frank's favorite, I'll take it either way.
Once again, things that could have been brought to my attention yesterday regarding
Jackson Chorio's injury would have been nice to know, you know, we still had drafts going on yesterday.
So, yeah, that's a bummer.
But if we were redrafting today, I think I would drop him.
to around 50th overall?
I don't know.
I'm thinking around 12th at Outfield.
So for me, it would be behind, like James Wood and Peter Armstrong,
ahead of Wyatt Langford and Jackson Merrill.
But I could be talked into moving him further down, certainly.
You know, if you wanted to say you'd take a projected 160 from Wyatt Langford over a projected 130 from Jackson Churio,
I wouldn't argue with that too much.
You know, the home run and RBI numbers are going to be pretty similar.
Lankford has the potential to take a step forward in batting average.
So, yeah, I think 12 to 15 at outfield is probably where I'd go.
Yeah, my first glance was 15 in the outfield,
and that would be right behind Roman Anthony, Jackson Merrill, Cody Bellinger.
Yep.
Might be a little bit too low.
That would put him right around 70th overall in my rankings there.
There is a pretty big drop-off, I think, at the.
that point in the outfield rankings. Yeah, because then you get into like Springer and
Riley Green and Buxton and you know, we have some questions. Questions about those guys. So
yeah, drop him down a little bit. And again, it's like if he's back in two weeks, this is
you know, probably not a big deal. But yeah, if he misses the whole first month, you're talking,
you know, one sixth of the fantasy baseball season. So that obviously would not be very good there
for Jackson Trio. If you are looking for replacements, part of the problem with this, Chris,
in weekly leagues,
lineups probably have already
locked if you...
Or your fabs already run, so you can't do...
Right. So like if
based on the Giants and Yankees playing a game
last night, a lot of leagues,
even if you make a player, you add a player now,
it's not eligible until like the next time you set your lineup.
So it's pretty annoying. But
if for some reason you can add a player
and still put them in your lineup, I know that
Scott likes Dominic Canzon as a streamer
for this weekend. If you're looking
for the long week 1, March 25th to April 5th.
Scott had Carson Benj and Mike Yostremski
on his list of options there.
If you're just looking for the highest impact
in a shallower league,
some names that are rostered between 60 and 75% on CBS,
Carson Benj, Justin Crawford,
Trent Grisham, Dalyle, Chase DeLauder.
So Chris, how would you rank those five?
Benj, Crawford, Grisham, Lyle, DeLotter.
I feel pretty confident.
put Lyle at the top and I feel pretty confident I'm going to put Grisham at the bottom and
I'll admit there's a little bit of a mystery box versus a boat element to that because
Trent Grisham just had a 30 homer season I don't think he's likely to repeat that but it happened
and none of these guys are proven at all Dalyle and Lyle being the most proven um but I would go Lyle
I think I'd go Dallader, Benge, Crawford, Grisham um but I think the three in the
middle are very fungible and it kind of just depends on what you need right because if you drafted
jackson churio a big part of that was the stolen bases right so you know i think cars and benj has some
stolen base potential but probably not more than like 15 over the course of the season chase the
lauder has probably none i don't think the guardians are going to ask him to run at all and justin
crawford could be a 40 steel guy so you know if you specifically need to to make some ground up in
steals well you're not making up any ground yet unless you want to get to
against Jazz Chisholm, I guess.
But if you're looking to replace Steel specifically,
Justin Crawford would be the guy to go with.
Yeah, I think that makes sense.
I think if you're just looking for all-around player,
all-around production, I probably would look at Lyle or Carson Benj.
If you're in just a points league,
I think Chase the Lodder is probably the name to chase there.
No pun intended, just because really good play discipline in the minors.
We're expecting him to play every day for the Guardians.
If you are in a slightly deeper league,
we're talking five outfielders, 12-team Roto League,
probably looking at some names like T.J. Friedel, Matt Walner, in the lineup here on opening day against the lefty.
Cedric Mullins, Willie Castro, Josh Lowe. It's not an exciting group here, Chris. Anyone stand out from that group?
Friedel, Walner, Mullins, Willie Castro, Josh Lowe.
Yeah, I mean, Walner, I did see a quote from Twins manager that they're basically going to use him every day, at least to start the season.
We'll see if he can hold his own against lefties. But we know Matt Walner crushes righties.
and any extra playing time boost
wouldn't necessarily be a bad thing
except for the impact it'll have on his batting average, I guess.
But yeah, I think Walner, Friedel are at the top of this list.
Castro, I think maybe when they're at cores,
but other than that, Mullins and Lowe are pretty boring to me.
I don't know what range of the roster rates we're looking at here.
It's kind of like 20 to 40%.
Okay, because I do have.
have some other guys. Brent and Doyle and Owen Casey are in the 50% range. They're, you know,
Brent and Doyle obviously can do some of the power speed that you were hoping far from Jackson
Churio. Owen Casey has big time power. Cam Smith is at 40% rostered. I think there are some questions
about how often he's going to play, you know, if it's going to be true every day, but I think
there's still some upside with Cam Smith. I had Matt Walner listed as well. And a couple of guys
specifically for speed, Victor Robles.
You know, he had a really good batting average two years ago.
He's stolen like 45 bases and 130 games since he joined the Mariners.
So I think there's big stolen base upside there.
And Victor Scott for the Cardinals, who figures to play every day.
That is strictly a steel specialist, of course.
But those are some other names to know.
And if you are in a five outfielder 15 team league, I am sorry.
I looked at one of my 15 teamers to see what they're.
The options were it was Trevor Larnick, Parker Meadows, Jake Fraly, Nick Castellanos.
It is.
Yeah.
It's not great.
Jonathan India, I think he's going to hit near the top of that lineup.
Brandon Marsh, it's pretty, Gavin Sheet, yeah, it's pretty gross.
Isa Isaac Collins, maybe?
I wish he was available in my 15 team.
Yeah, I'm looking at guys in like the 10% rostered range on CBS.
they might not be available.
Yeah, there aren't a ton of good options here, unfortunately.
So that's life in a 15-team, 5-Alfitter league, unfortunately.
What about the fallout for the Brewers?
Jake Bowers is in the lineup in left field on opening day
against right-handed pitcher Shane Smith.
And an interesting wrinkle, I heard manager Pat Murphy say,
Christian Yellich could play more outfield as a result of this injury.
Yelich is Util only on CBS and NFBC.
On CBS, you need five games in season to gain outfield.
On NFBC, you need 10.
But this could be good news for Yelich to gain outfield even sooner, Chris.
Yeah, yeah, that's one potential wrinkle for this.
Five games would be, I think, fairly easy to reach within the first month of the season.
He got to 19 last year, which is a bummer because you need 20 to retain eligibility on CBS and NFBC.
So that was frustrating that Christian Eilich didn't quite get there.
But yeah, there could be a silver line to that cloud if Christian Eilich gets outfit eligibility a little earlier, which seems possible.
And then, you know, a less direct fallout might just be if they're willing to put Jake Bowers in the lineup against lefties or sorry, in left field.
You know, there was some concern that maybe Andrew Vaughn would be in a quasi-platoon with Jake Bowers.
so this could give him a little more runway to get hot early
and secure a true everyday role.
So, you know, could be a positive fallout for Andrew Vaughn.
All right, again, the big bad news.
Jackson Cheerio has a fractured left hand.
He was placed in the IL and expects to miss two to four weeks.
We're looking at mid to late April,
and hopefully this is an injury that doesn't linger further into the season.
We are going to wrap there for Chris.
I am Frank.
Thanks as always for tuning in.
