Starting point is 00:00:03 Welcome to the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast from CBS Sports. Got a fantasy question, email Fantasy Baseball at CBSI.com. Get ready to win your lead. We're Fantasy! Now here's Frank Scott and Chris. Happy holidays and welcome in to Fantasy Baseball today on Wednesday, April 10th. Frank Stamphill joined by the returning Chris Towers. Today on the show will fire up the Worryometer, some interesting Waverwire Outfielders,
Starting point is 00:00:40 more pitching injuries, but today we get to start with something positive. First, hello, Chris. You're back. How was vacation? How was the eclipse? How's life? I didn't get to see the eclipse. I was in South Florida.
Starting point is 00:00:53 I missed the earthquake. We were like, I landed at like 10.30 on Friday morning in Fort Lauderdale and my group chat started blowing up immediately as soon as we landed. Everyone's like, did you just feel that? Did we have an earthquake? and I was like, I'm missing the earthquake and the eclipse. Two once in a generation events, even though there was an eclipse like seven years ago in the United States.
Starting point is 00:01:18 It's fine. It's fine. I'm fine. I'm back. The train is going off behind me if you can hear it. We're so back, baby. We are so back. For those who might not know what Chris is talking about,
Starting point is 00:01:29 there was an earthquake in like the New York, New Jersey area on Friday last week. It legitimately woke me up from my sleep. It was wild stuff. I was talking to my wife last week, actually, on like Wednesday about how I've never experienced an earthquake. And she had, because she's from Venezuela, and she had experienced earthquakes there. And I was like, I've never experienced one. And then what are the chances that I just missed? That's probably, you know, probably for the best, right?
Starting point is 00:01:56 I got hopefully no more earthquakes. Yes, please. Yeah. No more. No more. No more earthquakes. No more eclipse talk. Today.
Starting point is 00:02:04 No more injuries. No more. Please, no more injuries. Today is a great day, a celebration, one might even call it, a holiday. One of baseball's top prospects, Jackson Holiday, will be promoted by the Orioles on Tuesday, just 20 years old, drafted first overall back in 2022,
Starting point is 00:02:22 and since then it has just been a rapid ascension. He played at four different levels last year. He hit 323 with a 941 OPS, had a solid spring. I might call it better than a solid spring, but he did strike out quite a bit. He was sent to AAA to start the season for 10 games where he hit 333 with two homers, more walks than strikeouts, a 1077 OPS,
Starting point is 00:02:47 and a 93 mile per hour average exit velocity. Chris, get hyped. What are you expecting from Jackson Holiday? I'm very hyped. I'm glad he got, I think, six plate appearances against lefties and proved that he has no issues against them. and proved in 10 games that he can handle a second.
Starting point is 00:03:08 But look, the idea, the company line that he had things he needed to work on at Triple-Lake, they sent him down until he forced them to call him up. That's all it was. And they can still get that draft pick compensation if he wins rookie of the year. Given the slow starts for Evan Carter and Wyatt Langford, you might like Jackson Holiday's chances. And what you mentioned, that 93 mile per hour average exit velocity, that is potentially significant. Because my biggest concern about Jackson Holiday when we were talking about him in the spring was he's obviously an awesome player.
Starting point is 00:03:49 But he's super young. He won't turn 21 until December of this year. And while he was excellent last year, it wasn't necessarily excellent in a way that is super exciting. for fantasy. 24 stolen bases in 125 games. That was nice. 12 homers in 125 games. It was like, you know, what is the fantasy upside? Well, now he was hitting for power in the spring. He goes down to AAA and had that 93 mile per hour. Average exit velocity. The scrawny kid might have grown up. And given his outstanding plate discipline, 137 walks to 138 strikeouts and 154 career games.
Starting point is 00:04:36 If he can be even a 15 homer guy at the major league level right away, while stealing probably 20 plus bases and hopefully hitting for a good average, the profile is really exciting. And obviously 15 homers isn't the ceiling here. Yeah, and I agree. He might have beefed up a little bit too, because for those who don't know just a little behind the scenes, I create the YouTube thumbnail beforehand.
Starting point is 00:05:00 I set up the YouTube stream. And so I was looking for a picture of Jackson Holiday, and I noticed pictures of him this spring. And the first thing that came to mind is, this kid's kind of jacked up now. Like, he's put on some weight, and he's hitting the ball hard. He popped a few home runs in spring.
Starting point is 00:05:15 So I don't think that we will see the extent of his power, obviously, this season. And I think, you know, further down the line, maybe he can develop into a 25 home run hit or something like that. But you're right, Chris. If he can hit 15-ish home runs with 20 plus deals and are really good on-base percent, It's just a very unique skill set for fantasy.
Starting point is 00:05:35 One that might translate a little bit more in a head-to-head points league from the get-go, just because I think that plate discipline is going to be really good. And for the balls that don't fly out as home runs, those might be doubles. And obviously that translates a little bit better in a head-to-head points league. But it's a really exciting day. One of the top prospects in the game being called up by the Orioles here. And for those who might have been confused, Chris alluded to it. I know I was because I thought prospects had to be a lot of the game.
Starting point is 00:06:01 had to be up on opening day to be eligible for that draft pick compensation. It turns out that you need 172 days of service time on a major league roster to be eligible. So calling him up now, assuming he stays up for the rest of the season, he would be eligible for that. So it's an awesome time. I don't think he's available anywhere. He's 90% roster on CBS. He's 80% rostered on Yahoo. Maybe just check if you play on one of those other websites just to see if he's available.
Starting point is 00:06:31 know. If you play in NFC, it's possible he didn't get drafted in some of those very early or very late drafts, in which case, he won't be in the player pool until he makes his debut. So he'll be available in this week's Fab Run and possibly he got dropped. So there's just something to keep in mind. But yeah, I'd be shocked if he was available in more than a handful of leagues in any format. Also worth mentioning, he's only shortstop eligible on CBS to start the season. But if he plays all five games the rest of this week at second base, he will have that eligibility going into next week. So just let the kid play. I hope they don't have any lefties on the schedule
Starting point is 00:07:10 because let's get that second base eligibility for next week. That would be nice. Again, Jackson Holiday promoted by the Orioles, and we are hyped. Let's get into the rest of Tuesday's action. Oh, my goodness gracious. All right, Chris, I've got to admit when I saw you put this name on the rundown
Starting point is 00:07:26 for your player of the night, I was a little confused. Why Corbyn Carol? because he hit a home run, right? I'm not making that up, right? He hit a home run, yeah, but yeah, he hit home run. Lots of players hit home runs. It's been a while since Corbyn Carroll had hit a home run.
Starting point is 00:07:45 Before this, his last home run was, I think, in the third game of the postseason. 43 games ago. Oh, 43 straight games without a homer for Corby and Carroll, if you include spring and the postseason. So obviously we're, you know, counting some games that we don't typically count, but it's also 119 games since he had that scary looking shoulder injury at the end of last June.
Starting point is 00:08:12 It was June 29th, I believe. Only his 10th Homer in 119th Homer in 119 games since that. I know you had your concerns, and early on the quality of contact is pretty bad. 81.3 mile per hour average exit velocity, 18% hard hit rate so far this season. This also wasn't exactly crushed. 103.7 mile per hour exit velocity for the home run,
Starting point is 00:08:42 367 feet. That's not bad, but it's not, you know, not a huge homer. So I just wanted to have a dialogue about Corbyn Carroll because, you know, I know you were a little lower on him. I moved him down, I think, two spots in my overall rankings, which I do maintain for the trade values chart. And I just, I do wonder if he might be more of like a 15 homer guy than the 25 homer guy
Starting point is 00:09:10 he was last season, in which case, look, 15 homers and 54 steals is still pretty awesome. But how much of a difference is there between, you know, Corby and Carol and certainly like Julio Rodriguez and Bobby Witt and what we expect? because we talked about him in that air all spring. You know, is the profile more like a better version of Nico Horner? That's a conversation, I guess. But it was good to see him Homer, but I did want to highlight the drought that he was in.
Starting point is 00:09:45 Yeah, I hadn't noticed the quality of contact was so bad early on here, but it's still so early on in the season that, you know, I'm not here to take any victory laps or anything like that. I was a little bit lower on him. If he were going to have a down season, or perhaps the shoulder is going to affect the power this year, this is probably what the start of that would look like in terms of quality of contact.
Starting point is 00:10:11 But we'll see how it continues to play out. I noticed the same things that you brought up in the second half last year after the injury. The power was down, and I brought that up as part of my concern. And just the fact that that shoulder is still always going to be there in the back of my mind. And I, you know, one wrong swing can we, can he re-injure it? And that will just always kind of be there in the back of my mind.
Starting point is 00:10:34 And so that's why I was a little bit lower. But we'll see where Corbyn Carroll goes from here. Oh my goodness gracious for me, Tyler Glass now with his first of many signature starts for the Dodgers at the Twins. Through seven shutout innings, three hits, zero walks, 14 strikeouts that tied a career high, 21 swinging strikes on 88 pitches, 12 of those on the fastball, six on the slider. three on the curve. I don't remember the last time I saw a CSW rate of 48%. That is just massive.
Starting point is 00:11:06 Had everything working here. The slider velocity was actually up 1.2 miles per hour. He's turned in three straight quality starts. There's no question of talent, Chris. It's just always the same thing. Please stay on the field. If Glassnow gives us even 25 starts this year, he's probably returning top 10 starting pitcher value.
Starting point is 00:11:27 Yeah, I mean, this is a guy with since getting to Tampa Bay, I think it's like a 32% strikeout rate. It's been pretty much elite ratios every time he's been healthy. It's just he's never stayed healthy. And look, we're not very good at predicting injuries as this season has taught us. And it might just be safe to assume that all pitchers have significant injury risk, in which case Glass now certainly has more injury risk than your typical pitcher, but maybe that doesn't matter that much.
Starting point is 00:11:58 I think that's a reasonable way to approach things. And certainly, he's just about as good as anyone, certainly anyone who's currently healthy. So, yeah, awesome, awesome start. He's been excellent. He will continue to be excellent as long as he's on the mound. I don't really have any concerns about that. All right.

Starting point is 00:12:38 Subscribe to our YouTube channel if you haven't already. That's YouTube.com slash fantasy baseball today. Let's take our first break. And when we return, we've got to talk about, you guessed it, more pitching injuries. We'll do that right. after this. Well, Chris, since you've been gone, we're averaging about a pitcher per day
Starting point is 00:12:58 that we're losing to injury. And here we are on Tuesday, recapping the action, and we lost... Actually, two. We lost two pitchers. Yeah, it's been a rough go for it. Technically, three.
Starting point is 00:13:10 Gosh. Yeah. How many? It's been... Big it stopped. Last week, I mean, really, the last week, I guess, we can just lump today in.
Starting point is 00:13:19 It was the worst. week I can remember in 13 seasons of writing about fantasy baseball and it's not getting any better. It certainly is not. Nick Povetta was placed on the IL with a right elbow flexor strain, but apparently it isn't a serious concern. Red Sox GM Craig Breslo said Povetta may not be on the IL much beyond the 15-day minimum. I do appreciate their optimism. We'll see if that actually happens. Josiah Gray was placed on the 15-day IL with a, right flexor strain as well. Yohan Adone was called up to start in his place.
Starting point is 00:13:56 And Tyre's pitching prospect, who we saw a little bit of last year, Sawyer Gibson Long is being evaluated for right forearm tightness. We know yesterday, Framber Valdez was scratched from his start, and then on Tuesday was placed in the IL with left elbow inflammation. At the time, the Astros Brass said they weren't really concerned because, hey, we haven't placed him on the IL yet.
Starting point is 00:14:19 Well, now you've placed him on the IL. Chris, you haven't had the chance to just, I guess, react to this here on the podcast, but what are your thoughts on just like everything that's going on? And I guess in particular to any of these pitchers that got hurt on Tuesday. I mean, look, it's good that the initial reaction to both Framber Valdez and Nick Pavetta is that the team does not believe it is serious. That's not what we heard about Spencer Strider. for example, although it is what we heard from Yuri Perez, at least initially. I'm kind of of the opinion that there's no such thing as a minor elbow injury, and we should just assume we shouldn't take the optimistic viewpoint with any of these guys, but you're not dropping Povetta. You're not dropping Framber Faldez.
Starting point is 00:15:11 I go ahead and drop Josiah Gray if he was on your team, but I would have said that even before the injury probably. So I hope that this injury doesn't end up being too serious for either Povetta or Framber, but I'm not going to hold my breath at this point, given what we've seen. As far as the higher level discussions, I saw a graphic that I thought summed the issue up perfectly, and it was like comparing Justin Verlander in 2023 to Justin Verlander in like 2012. I think that was when he won the MVP. I think that's what they were comparing to.
Starting point is 00:15:49 And his average fastball velocity, both years, was like 94 miles per hour. And it's like, hey, 10 years apart averaging 94 miles per hour. He hasn't lost anything. But his max fastball velocity was like 101 back in the day. And last year it was like 97. And Verlander talked about that. There's a great video going around of him talking after. I think his first rehab start about the issue.
Starting point is 00:16:15 and he's very eloquent, talks about how everyone's throwing with max effort and everybody's, you know, all the incentives are to throw as hard as you can as often as you physically can. And I think that's probably the issue. The problem is like any arms race, pitchers get better and hitters learn to hit them. You know, they've got these crazy batting cages that can simulate every pitcher's exact spin and release point and movement and all this stuff. And so if you want to go in the batting cage and just be like, I want to hit against Jacob de Grom for the next hour. You can just do that. If pitchers were to start throwing softer, they just get crushed.
Starting point is 00:16:59 And so there's no incentives for, you can't unilaterally disarm one side in an arms race, right? Like, that's the whole thing. And so I don't know what the solution is developing stronger elbow ligament. You know, maybe everybody, maybe we can wrap everyone's elbow ligament and bubble wrap before the season. I genuinely, genuinely have no idea. It's super disheartening. I think partially also it's just that when Yuri Perez and Shane Bieber and Spencer Strider are having elbow injuries,
Starting point is 00:17:36 we're going to pay more attention than, you know, like Josiah Gray doesn't get brought up as like, all the epidemic of elbow injuries, right? You know, so I think partially it's just this is the time of year where everybody gets hurt and we know that going in and it's just happened to be that a lot of high profile names got hurt this time
Starting point is 00:17:58 and it makes it hurt worse and it's really bad for fantasy and it's really bad for the game. I don't know, those are my kind of rambling thoughts on the issue, but we're going to see more of them. You know, this is March in April are the time when when pitcher injuries are at their highest. And so I think the pitch
Starting point is 00:18:19 clock probably doesn't help. I don't think that's the primary issue. But yeah, it's, it's super discouraging. This weekend was, uh, was it Friday when all the news came out? It was late Friday night on Strider and then Saturday morning with Bieber. Yeah, I, yeah, Saturday. Okay, so Saturday was just a, Saturday was sucked. Yeah. A bad day. If you, care about baseball. Exactly right. Scott and I both gave our thoughts on what's happening with all the pitchers right now. And it is very disheartening.
Starting point is 00:18:52 I just want to remind everybody that we're going through this together. So if you have multiple or hopefully not all of these pitchers on the same fantasy team, I understand that it might be easy to just say, well, there goes a season. Let's try and fight through this. And then, you know, it's going to be hard to do. But that's why we're here. And we're going to continue to try and. you know, find some waiver wire pitchers and the right pitchers to stream and all that kind of stuff to try and get through this together.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Let's talk about some other news and notes. Trevor's story will undergo season-ending surgery on Friday to repair a fractured glenoid in his left shoulder. The recovery timetable for the surgery is six months and just a brutal start to his Red Sox career. It's one injury after another. Had a great spring. Looked like he finally entered the season healthy. And then boom, this is what we get with Trevor's story. just the other day, manager Alex Cora said,
Starting point is 00:19:45 Say Don, Rafael, would not play shortstop in Story's absence. And then here on Tuesday, he said, Raphaelah will see some playing time at second base and shortstop going forward. Alex Cora also said Von Grissom could see some time at shortstop. Jordan Romano is expected to begin a rehab assignment at AAA on Thursday and should be activated soon after that. If all goes well, Max Scher completed a bullpen Tuesday and is expected to throw live batting practice next week.
Starting point is 00:20:14 Kyle Bradish joined High A on Tuesday and will begin a rehab assignment there soon. He was diagnosed with a partially torn UCL early in spring training. Obviously, this is good news. It's a step in the right direction. We have to see how his arm responds still. Again, that is Kyle Bradish.
Starting point is 00:20:30 The Astros are promoting their top pitching prospect, Spencer Arrogetti, 24 years old, lots of strikeouts, also lots of walks. What I've read on him is a solid fastball, plus slider, the minor league career. Exactly that, lots of strikeouts, but also a 437 ERA and a 1.3 whip. Chris, any interest in Spencer Arrogetti?
Starting point is 00:20:51 There's a really fun fan graphs article about him from, I think it was like just a few days ago, where he talks about his pitching process and his arsenal. He's actually a five pitch pitcher from what I understand. Fastball slider, obviously are the best two pitches, curveball, cutter, and changeup. He's a super, super into analytics guy. Had an ERA above four, I believe, at both AA and AAA last season, although both of the parks that he was pitching in and the leagues he was pitching in are very tough for pitchers.
Starting point is 00:21:23 So, you know, a lot of strikeouts. I'm writing about him for the newsletter tomorrow in the waiver wire section. And I think probably just wait and see for now. But if you've got a roster spot to play with and you've got waiver or, you know, open free agency ads or waiver that runs tonight, go out and add him before the game just in case, you know, like we've seen Jared Jones and Gary Crochet and a couple other guys really rock it up our pitching rankings.
Starting point is 00:21:55 And, you know, Justin Verlander's going to be back, you know, hopefully in a couple of weeks that, you know, is a complicating factor. But life finds a way. And if Arrogatti's good, I would guess he's going to stick around. It's just, it's mostly a question. of whether he's good. CJ Abrams was back in the lineup Tuesday after missing three games with a bone bruise
Starting point is 00:22:16 on his left pinky, and he returned with a bang. Two for four with his third home run, three RBI, and two of his three home runs this season are off of lefties. So you love to see that for his development. That's one of the reasons why I was kind of off Abrams this year. I wrote him up in Bus 1.0 because he's been so bad against lefties in his career.
Starting point is 00:22:37 Really small sample size, but very encouraging early on. for him. I almost made him my, my, oh my goodness gracious player of the game. I just kind of wanted to talk about Corby and Carroll, but I thought Abrams was more impressive because that Homer, if you watch it, it's a 94 mile an hour fastball by Kyle Harrison, a very tough lefty. It's up and in, and he turns on that thing and drives it like 430 feet. He hits it out to the deepest part of Oracle Park. I, I don't know, my reaction to watching that highlight was, are we sure this guy can't be a legit power hitter? he doesn't have massive, massive raw power, but when he gets into one and he pulls it, CJ Abrams can do a lot of damage. And that's what he started to do in the second half last season. Once he became the leadoff hitter,
Starting point is 00:23:23 there was a really good piece from Robert Orr on baseball prospectus that I retweeted tonight. That makes me think that he might be able to get to like 20, 25 homers at his peak. I don't think he's certainly not done progressing. as well. So I don't know. It's been a very promising start in that regard, I think. He was one of the top prospects in all of baseball just a couple of years ago. So you're right, continuing to progress. And it's not unfathomable that he can hit 20 home runs with 60 stolen bases this season. That is CJ Abrams. J.C. Real Muto left Tuesday night after taking a slider
Starting point is 00:24:03 that bounced off the plate and then somehow got under his catcher mask and like hit him in the neck. It was pretty scary to watch. He'll be evaluated again on Wednesday. Robert Stevenson threw a live batting live bullpen session and is close to a rehab assignment. He started the season on the IL due to right shoulder soreness. J.D. Martinez is dealing with tightness in his lower back and received an injection for the injury.
Starting point is 00:24:27 He'll be sidelined for up to five days. Haraldo Pardomo underwent surgery to repair a torn right meniscus and will need about a month to recover in rehab. Jonathan India was back in the lineup Tuesday. after being scratched on Monday with a leg contusion. Yoan Moncada was removed Tuesday with a left adductor strain. He was replaced by Nikki Lopez. Julio Tehran was designated for assignment after just one start with the Mets.
Starting point is 00:24:52 It appears Jose Buto will start in Tehran's place Saturday against the Royals. And former Dodgers starter, Julio Arias, was charged with five misdemeanors by the Los Angeles City Attorney's Office in connection to his September arrest on suspicious. of domestic violence. Let's talk waiver wire hitters, Chris, and I've got some outfielders up first here. And MJ Melendez, if it feels like or sounds like
Starting point is 00:25:19 all we've talked about this season is MJ Melendez, it's because we have. But he's also still only 67% rostered. One for two with two walks and his first steal. He's batting 333 early on. He's got those three home runs. The OPS is massive, small sample. But the plate discipline is there.
Starting point is 00:25:38 67% rostered. Based on his skill set, you can argue that he is a must add regardless of format based on what we're seeing early on. Yeah, it's tough in head-to-head points leagues because we do expect him to strike out more than his current 21% strikeout rate, but he is super young
Starting point is 00:26:00 and he has a 40 homer season at the minor league level under his belt, or maybe 38, I can't remember exactly, but it was very, very close. And that's something you don't see in the miners very often. He had really, really good quality of contact metrics last season. They've been even better so far. If he can keep the strikeout rate even to like 24%, I think there's a ton to like about MJ Melendez.
Starting point is 00:26:25 And yeah, real upside that he's showing off right now. This is not, he may not be able to sustain this, but this is one of those starts that is not a fluke. He has earned his production so far. It's just a question of whether he can keep it up. Yeah, I agree completely. MJ Melendez off to a great start there. Some other outfielder who are off to good starts as well.
Starting point is 00:26:46 Brandon Marsh spoke about him yesterday, two for three with a walk. He is 11 for 31 early on. He's got three homers, one steel. Strikeout rate is very high. He's also hitting the ball really hard. He's 33% rostered. Sal Freelik, he's starting to get going. Three for four with a walk, RBI, and two runs scored.
Starting point is 00:27:04 He has three straight multi-hit games, has added two steel. on top of that. He is 41% rostered. And then Mitch Hanneger, one for three with a walk and his second home run of the season. He is 39% rostered. So three outfielders in a similar range of roster rate here between 30 and 40%, Chris. How would you rank those three? Hanager first, regardless of format. But in a roto league, I could be talked into South Freelich just because of the steals and the batting average help that he's like,
Starting point is 00:27:38 give you ahead of Marsh and Hanager. March would be a distant third for me. I just, I think he strikes out too much. I don't think he can hit lefties well enough. I don't really view him as much more than a fringe fantasy option. So I think he's a clear third here. All right, non-outfielders, waiver wire hitters that could be available. Jeremy Payne continues his hot start, two for five with a run scored and his second steal.
Starting point is 00:28:02 He's betting 333. He's got two home runs. The strikeout rate is way down early on in the season. he's 74% rostered. The next step, Chris, is, do you think Pena should be rostered in Points Lees? Because that's the only way this number is going to get higher. And I don't know that he needs to be.
Starting point is 00:28:19 At least not yet. No, I mean, that's the thing is, you look at the shortstop position. There hasn't really been any attrition there. And so, like, in a Points League, O'Neill Cruz is my number 11 shortstop. That's just,
Starting point is 00:28:36 that's a really hard. bar to clear. I mean, he'd have to jump ahead of guys like Anthony Volpe who's having a terrific start and Willie Adomas who's having a really good start and like, I don't know, I guess it'd be pretty easy to drop like Tyra Estrada for him if that's your shortstop. But if Tyra Astrat is your shortstop, I don't think Jeremy Pena is fixing the problem with your team in a head-to-head points league. Two other names off to solid starts, Jose Caballero, three for four with a double, two runs, 2 RBI and his fifth stolen base already. He is 33% rostered, has second base and shortstop eligibility on CBS.
Starting point is 00:29:15 Shea Langaleers, 3 for 4 with not 1, not 2, but 3. A triple dong for Langalears. He added 4 RBI. Even with this game, he's betting 250, so I think you kind of know what you're getting from Langalears. He's a fine second catcher, but I don't think he needs to be added in any one catcher leagues. The question is on Jose Caballero. Chris, do you think maybe 33% roster?
Starting point is 00:29:37 should be higher. Yeah, I don't think there's much value in points leagues here, but the stolen bases are absolutely worth chasing here. And we have, I would guess, probably 50% or something close to that. Our categories base leagues where steals specifically matter rather than just being another part of the point calculations. So I think, yeah, Caballero, second base shortstop, middle infield, utility, like he's absolutely someone to have on your roster in a categories league.
Starting point is 00:30:11 He's only 18% rostered on Yahoo. I know those are mostly head to head categories leagues. And they're shallower than typical roto leagues, but I think 18% is still too low there, given what he's done so far. Who would you rather have between Caballero and Bryce Tarang who's all to a nice start? Terang. I think he's only sat one game so far, right? I think it was just opening day. And ever since than I think Mitchell's injury. He's been in the lineup every game. Seven stolen bases. He's hitting the ball well.
Starting point is 00:30:43 I really like what we've seen from Bryce Terang. I'd rather have him than than Caviaro. And then two waiver wire hitters in deeper leagues. Edward Olavaris, two for four with a double dong. He had three hard hits in that game. Both of which were, I mean, all of which were 105 miles per hour or harder. And he got the start against the righty. I thought that was encouraging in Casey Mize.
Starting point is 00:31:04 He started three of the past four games. It feels like we've always seen Olivares in short spurts, and he impresses, but then just never gets a real opportunity to play. It's been an interesting career for him so far. And it feels like the Orioles have to find a way to get Colton Kouser in the lineup, two for four with two doubles, four RBI. He only has 15 at bats, but he has seven hits, four doubles already. I just would really like to see them go with that youth movement,
Starting point is 00:31:33 Jackson Holiday, and get Colton Kouser in there. What are your thoughts on him and Olivares for deeper leagues? I have never read Moby Dick, so I may be using this phrase wrong. But Edward Olivares is kind of my white whale. He's one of those guys that I've just always been interested in. His minor league numbers are actually really solid. It's like an 809 OPS for his career, close to a 900 OPS at AAA. And even at the Major League level, his OPS is like 730 or 740.
Starting point is 00:32:05 he's been like an above average hitter at the major league level and he just never like you said never seems to get the opportunity 162 game average 17 homers and 10 steals like this dude has i think a legitimately useful skill set for fantasy and yeah maybe he maybe he's going to play a little more moving forward for the pirates being in the line of against the righty today helps and uh i i will I've always been interested in Edward Olivares, and I would be very heartened if he turned into a fantasy relevant thing this year. And then Kouser, it's just,
Starting point is 00:32:41 we know how talented he is. He's a consensus top 50 prospect. He's put up good minor league numbers. It's just a question of whether you can afford to stash a guy who's not playing every day and may not play every day for a long time. I have some leagues where I can justify that, a lot of leagues where I can't.
Starting point is 00:32:59 That's the problem with Colton Kouser. Mm-hmm. They just have a pretty stacked outfield right now between Santander and Mullins and... I mean, Ryan O'Hern's having another good start to the season. Right. Yeah, I was looking at his numbers. He's batting 3.30. Yeah. Ops over 1,000 to start. That's the problem when you look at that short, that Norfolk team. And it's like, you know, Kobe Mayo and Kyle Stowers and all these guys. It's just like, there's not enough room. This is the Corbyn. Burns trade was supposed to consolidate, and they gave up two guys they might not have even started this year. No, they definitely would not have. This is a team that probably needs another consolidation trade just to have enough roster spots for everybody, let alone playing time.
Starting point is 00:33:50 That's the problem with Colton Couser, but he might just force his way into the lineup more. All right, let's take our final break. When we return, we'll fire up the Worryometer here on Fantasy Baseball today. Welcome back in. Let's fire up the Worryometer. One to 10, one being we're not worried at all. 10, we are extremely worried about this player. George Kirby, back-to-back rough outings. This one at the Blue Jays.
Starting point is 00:34:14 Four innings, five runs allowed, three strikeouts, only four swinging strikes. Did give up some hard contact. 90.6 average exit velocity against pretty standard pitch mix. I didn't really see anything that stood out to me. Chris, where are you at, George Kirby on the Wuriameter? I saw a tweet from, I think Ryan Davis who covers the Mariners today, and it was the strike zone plot for all of George Kirby's pitches with two strikes. And I think 20 of 30 were in the strike zone. You don't need to do that.
Starting point is 00:34:50 I don't know. Maybe he faced 30 or 23, two counts and he couldn't. But like, I think he pitches too much in the strike zone. and my galaxy brain take on George Kirby has always been that he would be a better pitcher if he gave up more walks because it would mean that he was chasing whiffs and chasing chase, I guess would be the way to say it. But yeah, like, I don't know. I get, here's my question. If George Kirby was just Aaron Nola, would we be okay with that?
Starting point is 00:35:23 Or would we be disappointed? I think where people were drafting Kirby this year, they'd be disappointed. Oh, yes. but that might just be what he is. Like he's got good but not incredible stuff. He's got great command, but he probably pitches in the strike zone too much. And I think there are just going to be days like this
Starting point is 00:35:42 when he's not able to get whiffs in the strike zone and it's going to turn on him. I think he's a very, very good pitcher. I wasn't drafting him as a top 10 or top five guys. So I'm not too concerned. But if you have, Adam as a top five guy. Yeah, I think you're concerned that he's not going to live up to that potential. Did you give us a number, Chris, on the worryometer? Probably not. Let's say four.
Starting point is 00:36:12 Yeah, I'm not worried either. And I have a few shares of him. He wasn't a main target. He was kind of like if he falls to the right spot kind of thing. I'll put him a three on the worryometer. I agree with you. It's just it feels like we might have to live through some of these ups and down. until he starts to do what you said and try and get supposing batters to chase pitches a little bit more and I don't know, maybe uses some of those secondary pitches a little bit more as well.
Starting point is 00:36:39 Let's talk about some relievers. We haven't done that, usually this early in the podcast, but David Bednar does not look right at the moment. He got the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He gave up four earned runs. He took his third blown save, first loss.
Starting point is 00:36:52 I was watching this game. Command is way off. My guess is that he's rusty after missing most of spring training with that lat injury. I don't know if this is a good or a bad thing, but A Rollo's Chapman is off to a fantastic start and obviously has closer pedigree. Where are you at, Chris, David Bednar on the Worryometer?
Starting point is 00:37:12 I'm certainly not a zero. But like you said, I think it's probably just like rust or a mechanical issue that can be fairly easily solved because you missed most of spring training. Velocity's fine. You know, velocity today was down like 0.1 mile per hour from last year. So nothing too concerning there, but you just look at the, the strike zone plot and it's just the curveball especially was just all over the place.
Starting point is 00:37:39 He couldn't throw that anywhere near the strike zone. It was terrible. It wasn't keeping it down, you know? Like if you're going to miss with a curveball, you want to miss down and everything was letter high. And so I think he's just not right. And if you want to sit him, I think it makes sense. but I'm certainly not dropping David Bednar, so I'd probably say a five on the Wariometer.
Starting point is 00:38:01 Yeah, I was going to say something around there too. I mean, he is such an established closer. I think he's going to have a pretty long leash here unless it turns out that he's still dealing with that lat injury, which as of now, we have no reason to believe that. But yeah, I think maybe the pirates give him a few days off to clear his mind or whatever, but I'm not overly worried about him so far.
Starting point is 00:38:23 Can't say the same about Jose LeClerc, who got the ninth inning with a one-run lead. He gave up a two-run homer. One of Shea-Langaliers's three home runs tonight, took his first blown save, second loss of the season. Leclerc's ERA through five appearances, 14.4. And this is...
Starting point is 00:38:41 That's too high. This is for the defending World Series champions. Obviously, they have aspirations of getting back to the postseason, back to the World Series. They might have to make a trade at some point for a reliever. But David Robertson and Kirby Yates, I've both pitched well as set up men so far. They both have closing experience.
Starting point is 00:39:00 Chris, where are you at one to 10 on Jose Leclerc? Eight or nine. I would prefer not to drop him, but if I'm setting my lineup right now, there's no way I can start him. He has six walks to four strikeouts and five innings. He's giving up six hits.
Starting point is 00:39:16 He's giving up. Actually, not that much hard contact. So I guess that's a good sign if you're looking for one. but the command clearly isn't there. And look, the difference between him and David Bednar is, one,
Starting point is 00:39:32 I just think David Benar is a better pitcher, but two, Bednar entered the season without any questions about who was the closer for his team. And Jose LeClerc, it wasn't until, did they ever name him officially the closer? Or was it just they got to the start of the season
Starting point is 00:39:51 and they used him as the closer? But I don't think there was ever, like a this is our closer statement was there i don't think so either we remember talking about it the spring and thing that we we talked about that it was weird but we assumed he would guy and so yeah given how much he struggled early on i wouldn't be surprised at the next save opportunity goes to someone else you know goes to a david robinson i i just searched him up on twitter Jose LeClerc just to see if there were any quotes after the game. And it says here sounds like Bruce Bochy is sticking with Jose LeClerc in the closer role,
Starting point is 00:40:27 as he probably should. I get the frustration, but it's early. Don't want to crush his confidence. And then Jose LeClerc, waiting at his locker for the media, said he feels better mechanically than he did the first two games and is getting better every day. But, quote, it's time to do it. I've got to do something different to start to get better. So obviously, it's kind of, it's on red alert right now.
Starting point is 00:40:48 but man, if we see one more blown save, it wouldn't surprise me if they kind of switch things up there. It could just be Kirby Yates too. You know, that's part of the problem if you're looking to speculate. I'm not sure who would be more likely. Yates worked the eighth in this one. So, you know, I don't think this is a situation where you're actively looking to stream Robertson or Yates
Starting point is 00:41:11 until we see something more actionable. Let's talk about Vinnie Pasquantino. And normally, Chris, I would give players with hitters specifically with a track record at least the first month of the season and let's see what happens. The difference here is that
Starting point is 00:41:26 Pasquantino is coming back from shoulder surgery last year so there could be maybe a little bit of concern. He went 0 for 4 with a walk on Tuesday. He's 4 for 37. That's a 108 batting average. Zero extra base hits. Plate discipline still looks fine, five walks to five strikeouts,
Starting point is 00:41:43 but it's lots of ground balls early on. The average XIVor velocity is not terrible, but it's not good either. Where are you at 1 to 10 on VitiP? Baby. I'd say a 7. I'm not dropping him, but, you know, in looking at my rankings, if I moved, let me see, I did look at this earlier.
Starting point is 00:42:07 Like, I moved him behind Spencer Steer, who's off to a pretty good start and has all that positional eligibility. So, you know, I'm, that's a small move, you know, up for Steve. year and down for Pasquantino, but it's not nothing. And, you know, the, like you said, the plate discipline's fine, the quality of contact in terms of how hard he's hitting the ball is okay, 111.6 mile per hour. Max EV is actually higher than any he had last season. The problem is he hasn't barreled a ball yet. And everything, I mean, almost literally everything has either been a ground ball or just kind of a weak fly ball, right? He has a 57%
Starting point is 00:42:49 ground ball rate, a 32% fly ball rate, a 7.1% pop-up rate. And if you've done the math in your head, that only leaves 3.6% left over for line drives. So he's getting on top of or under everything. And that's not going to work no matter how hard you hit the ball. So yeah, I think it's concerning given the fact that he's coming back from shoulder surgery. Given the fact that like he's not proven, we've, we've had. had to do a lot of projecting on Vinnie Pasquantino. And I believe in his talent. I think he can be very good. He certainly was before the injury last year. But it's not like we've got an eight year
Starting point is 00:43:31 track record here for Vinny Pasquantino. We've got a couple of pretty good partial seasons. So I'm not dropping him, but I'm not not concerned. Yeah, I agree. I would put him at a five on the Worryometer. Again, I'm concerned, but I'm not not concerned. So to me, that's right in the middle for Vinnie P. And I would be trying to send the lowest of the low by low offers right now on Vinny Pass Guantino if I could. And I'm like you, I'm not dropping him as of now. Let's talk some waiver wire pitchers. Martin Perez looked awesome against the Tigers. Eight innings, one run, seven strikeouts had 10 swinging strikes on 100 pitches. Still did give up some hard contact in this one. I noticed a change.
Starting point is 00:44:15 Martine Perez is throwing his curveball more to this season. 21% usage in this start. It's looked really good so far. It's not really a pitch he's used much in the past. So I am slightly intrigued. Ronaldo Lopez opened the season with back-to-back quality starts. This one up against the Mets, six shot-out innings with six strikeouts, 11 swinging strikes on 94 pitches. The velocity does remain down a lot compared to when he was a reliever last year.
Starting point is 00:44:42 but the results have been there through two starts. And Casey Mize was just okay against the Pirates. Five innings, two runs, two strikeouts for him. Chris, any enthusiasm, excitement for Perez, Lopez, or Casey Mize? Enthusiasm and excitement would not be the word I would use to describe any of these three pitchers and how I feel about them. And look, maybe it's different for some other people. you know, and in specifically
Starting point is 00:45:13 Raneldo Lopez's case, being a spark certainly helps. The bar is much lower, and I think he can be competent enough to remain a must roster player and a very useful player, especially in weeks like this where he has two starts. Perez, I think it's fine to add him,
Starting point is 00:45:31 but my expectations aren't high. I don't think he's going to run as hot as he did in 2022 and then have a sub three ERA, but I think he can be useful. Mize, I want to believe, but I just, despite the increased fastball velocity, he had, what, five whiffs today, seven whiffs today on 87 pitches? Yep. He just, the splitters, decent, the fastball looks pretty good.
Starting point is 00:45:56 I just don't think the slider is good enough. And I don't think the other pitches are, like this isn't a Bryce Miller situation, right, where I think the fastball and the slider are really good. I think the fastball and slider for Casey Miser probably just. just okay. And so I don't think he can be as useful without the slider. And I just, the slider's never been a good pitch for him at the major league level.
Starting point is 00:46:20 So I actually think Mize is frankly dropable, even coming off of a decent start. Would you drop Mize for Martine Perez? That might depend on what their matchups are next week. Boston and New York for Martin Perez, Texas and Minif. Those are very, very, very similar matchups. I think I, yeah, I think I'd be okay with going Perez. Is he, is he R.P. eligible? He actually might. I think he is. That might, that might be the determining factor there.
Starting point is 00:46:59 I'm trying to search it up. My computer is not working, but I think you might be right. I think Martine Perez is a SPARP as well. So obviously that does add some value in, yeah, he is RP eligible. So in head to head points league, I'd be perfectly, fine dropping Casey Myers from our team Perez. Two names in deeper leagues. Joe Ross. That Joe Ross, the one that threw for the Washington Nationals like five years ago. Turned in his first quality start. He pitches for the Brewers now, by the way. His first quality start since August 5th of 2021.
Starting point is 00:47:30 Six and a third innings, three runs. Two of those were earned. Seven strikeouts. And this one did give up a ton of hard contact. Velocity was up in this outing. And then Cubs prospect, Ben Brown, actually pitched really well at the Padres, four and two thirds, shutout innings, three hits, one walk, five strikeouts with 10 swinging strikes on 77 pitches. He is a two pitch pitcher so far.
Starting point is 00:47:53 It is just fastball and curveball, but both of those pitches have looked pretty good. Chris, in deeper leagues, any interest in Ben Brown or Joe Ross? No on Joe Ross. He's not technically a one pitch pitcher. He does throw a sinker and a kicker. and occasionally a couple other pitches. But the slider is the only thing he has that's even decent. And I don't think that's going to work out for him.
Starting point is 00:48:22 Brown, I don't know how much upside there is, given the way they're using him. They pulled him with four and two-thirds inning 77 pitches in this one. I think he pitched in long relief in his previous outing. So I think the ratios and strikeouts can be pretty useful. And given the attrition we've had, in some deeper leagues that might have some value, but I'd be surprised
Starting point is 00:48:45 if Ben Brown was like a must start guy at any point. So Ben Brown got crushed in his first outing at the Texas Rangers as a reliever, but in two outings since, one was relief, and then this one was a start. Eight and two-thirds innings, one run, ten strikeouts. I would agree, I don't think he's like a must-ad by any
Starting point is 00:49:03 means, but in some of those deeper leagues, I mean, just with the attrition we face so far, I think he's a pretty interesting name and one to watch there. That is Ben Brown. Would you be looking to drop or hold any of these three pitchers who all had rough outings here on Tuesday? Logan Allen against the White Sox, really? Four innings, five runs allowed there. Frankie Montas, five innings, five runs, three of those were earned. He's actually pitched really well leading up to this. The only thing I worry about, the velocity
Starting point is 00:49:34 does remain down quite a bit for Frankie Montas. And AJ Puck, four and two-thirds, innings, two runs. five walks to two strikeouts. He has 14 walks through his first three starts. Are you dropping or holding those three names? Puck is the easiest one to drop. I would try to hang on to Logan Allen and Frankie Montas. If I had both Alan and Montas, actually might have a league where I have both of them.
Starting point is 00:50:03 I would, and I needed to drop someone, I would probably drop Montas instead of Allen, but I don't feel strongly one way or the other. Montas, he's just, he's not getting the strikeouts right now, the velocity's way down. I just, I don't know how effective he can be pitching like this, especially in a bad ballpark. So Allen at least has youth and a couple of interesting breaking balls to his credit. So if I had to keep one of them, it would be Allen. and Puck in deep, deep, roto leagues, it might be worth hanging on to him just because it's
Starting point is 00:50:41 possible that when Edward Cabrera and Braxton Garrett are ready, which could be as soon as next week, maybe he gets moved into a high leverage relief role like we saw early last season, but even that, I think it's not going to happen immediately where he's the closer. You know, it would have to be Tanner Scott continues to struggle and A.J. Puck looked good. for that to happen. So yeah, I think it's okay to drop him. All right, let's get into the rest of the standouts from Tuesday and Sunny Gray had a successful Cardinals debut,
Starting point is 00:51:15 five shutout innings, five hits, zero walks, five strikeouts in that one. Pretty similar pitch mix and velocity to last year. If you played it safe this week, I would say you're good to get Sunny Gray back in your lineups for next week. Anything to add on him? Nothing. All right.
Starting point is 00:51:31 I think. Yeah. We had three pitchers with their velocity down, and two of them actually pitched pretty well. Carlos Rodan turned in his first quality start of the season against the Marlins. He went six plus innings, two unearned runs, six strikeouts with 12 swinging strikes. He went with a legit four pitch mix in this outing, fastball cutter, slider, change-up. The change-up actually looked really good for Carlos Rodan in this outing, but his velocity was down. Fastball was 94.3 miles per hour.
Starting point is 00:52:03 It was 95.9 in his first two starts. So just, I think, something notable for him. Zach Wheeler, quality start at the Cardinals, seven innings, three runs, five strikeouts. In that one, he continues to work in that new splitter. It's looked like a pretty awesome pitch for him so far. The velocity in all of his starts has been down a lot, but the numbers are also great.
Starting point is 00:52:25 So I don't really know what to make of that for Zach Wheeler. and then Christian Javier was pretty meh at the Royals, five in a third innings, three runs, three walks to four strikeouts, and his fastball was down one mile per hour. The slider was down almost three miles per hour in this one. Javier and Rodon just remain kind of baffling for me. Anything to add, any concern, I guess, with these three,
Starting point is 00:52:51 Javier, Zach Wheeler, and Carlos Rodon? I have no concerns about Zach Wheeler. any worryometer would be zero, maybe a negative number. Rodin and Javier, though, I think there are legitimate reasons to be concerned about either of them sustaining what they've done so far. Javier, the strikeouts have not been there. The walk rate has been way up. I don't think this like new changeup approach, change up heavy approach is really, I can't say it can't be effective because the changeup has been a decent pitch for him so far.
Starting point is 00:53:28 season, but we haven't seen, I guess the best way to say it is we haven't seen a version of Christian Javier that's really successful where his fastball has not been a really, really good pitch. And right now it just doesn't look like a really good pitch. It's getting hit hard. He's not getting whiffs with it. So I think that's a concern. Rodon, I think Carlos Rodon might be the most obvious sell high candidate at starting pitcher right now because he's a big name, because the results in terms of run prevention have been very good so far. But I think there's a lot under the hood that's really concerning here. It's another one where we've never seen.
Starting point is 00:54:09 I would guess we've never seen a five-star stretch from Carlos Rodan where he was good where the slider wasn't a big part of it. And the slider just is not there for him right now. And maybe that's a reason to be optimistic, right? He's had the slider for such a long time. it's been such a good pitch. All he has to do is rediscover it and he can take off like a rocket ship.
Starting point is 00:54:29 Maybe that's the reason to be optimistic. But I just don't know if it's going to happen, right? Like the thing for me is the fastball velocity was down, the slider velocity was up. And what my concern was when he was working on that cutter in the spring was that the cutter and the slider were going to kind of merge into one. And he needs that slider to be a plus plus pitch to be effective and it just has not been yet.
Starting point is 00:54:56 So I'm pretty concerned about Carlos Rodon. I certainly would not be trying to trade for him right now. And I don't want to take anything away from Rodon because this was clearly his best start of the season. No, go ahead. The Marlins are terrible. The Marlins, while they are terrible overall, they are especially terrible against lefties.
Starting point is 00:55:18 They are last in Wobah and WRC Plus against lefties by a wide margin. and it is not close. So just keep that in mind if you want to stream any lefties against the Marlins moving forward.
Starting point is 00:55:30 Some other pitching standouts. Part 1. Corbyn Burns was awesome at the Red Sox. Seven innings, one run, six strikeouts. And that one, Chris Bassett
Starting point is 00:55:37 turned in his first quality start of the season. Six and two thirds, one run, eight strikeouts. He threw 115 pitches. And it's like, he's not going for no hitter.
Starting point is 00:55:48 What are we doing? Nathan Avaldi pitched well against the Oakland A's, five and two-thirds. one run, eight strikeouts, back-to-back starts with 21 plus swinging strikes for Avaldi. Anything to add on him, Bassett, and Corby Burns. I think we know who Burns, Bassett, and Avaldi all are.
Starting point is 00:56:07 And with Avaldi specifically, he can pitch like a top 25, top 30 starting pitcher for a while. But I think at some point he's going to lose it. And it just depends on whether you want to try to trade him in April or May or June, but you should probably try to trade him at some point. Pitching standouts part two. Merrill Kelly turned in a quality start in Coresfield, six innings, two runs, four strikeouts. He continues to throw his slider more this year,
Starting point is 00:56:33 and it has been a really good pitch for him. So I wonder if it can just help Merrill Kelly be as good as he was last year, because if that's the case, we were all way too low on him entering this season. Kyle Harrison turned in a quality start against the Nationals, six innings, three runs, eight strikeouts to zero walks. That is the key for Kyle Harrison. And Cole Regans looked human against the Astros. Five innings, 10 hits allowed, had five strikeouts.
Starting point is 00:57:01 Also had 16 swinging strikes. So some good, some bad, a mixed bag here for Regans. But anything to add on him, Harrison, and Merrill Kelly. Yeah, the thing I wanted to look up about Kyle Harrison, because you put a note in there that it's been mostly fastball changeup. And I'm wondering if maybe that's just a result. of teams stacking the lineup with righties, but that definitely wasn't the case for the Nationals
Starting point is 00:57:28 because they had C.J. Abrams, Joey Gallo, Jesse Winker in there. There were some lefties in there, so I don't think that explains it. His fastball is really, really good, and the change-up has been good enough, and I do wonder if, you know, the breaking ball, whatever, you know, slider, slurve, curve ball, whatever you want to call it,
Starting point is 00:57:50 if, you know, that could help him take a step forward. But I think Kyle Harrison's very good. Probably a top 50 starting pitcher the rest of the way. And I have no concerns about Regans. All right. So I'm hitting leftovers. Tyler O'Neill, one for four, with his league leading sixth home run over the green monster and out of the park.
Starting point is 00:58:12 Chris, did you see the picture of the car that Tyler O'Neill hit outside of the stadium? I have not seen that one yet. I saw the Ellie Dela Cruz Hunter Green one from the spring where Ellie signed the windshield that he destroyed on Hunter Green's car, but I have not seen this one. Yeah, it's been... Maybe Tyler Neal can sign the windshield for this guy. Yeah, maybe a little bit more than that.
Starting point is 00:58:41 Great start to the season for Tyler O'Neill. Please just stay healthy. And then later on Tuesday night, Mike Trout hit his sixth home run to tie the league lead once again with Tyler O'Neill. Another one, just stay healthy. Ronald O'Kunia had a big game, two for three with a walk, three steals, and three runs scored,
Starting point is 00:58:58 and Christopher Morel is off to a nice start, two for three, with a grand slam, his third home run of the season. Some bullpen updates for the Tigers. Jason Foley got the ninth inning with a two-run lead. He gave up two hits, but picked up his third save for the White Sox. You know, it was a great night for Team Cranes.
Starting point is 00:59:18 rampful relievers here, Chris, because Michael Kopeck and Mason Miller, how about both of those guys? Oof, let's go. We got three saves this season between the two of them. Let's go, baby. So they took a, the White Sox took a two-run lead in the top of the eighth inning.
Starting point is 00:59:34 Michael Kopec then got the final six outs, four of those via strikeout for his second save. I don't know how many save opportunities they're going to have, but man, Michael Kopec could just be a huge weapon for fantasy this season. And that was, he threw 24 pitches, I think.
Starting point is 00:59:52 23 of them were fastballs. Oh, wow. He had one, and he averaged, I think, 100 miles per hour with it. He's throwing flames out of the bullpen. I think both Kopec and Miller are going to be very good. Yeah. They just might combine for 40 saves. He is gassed up so far.
Starting point is 01:00:11 Same thing with Mason Miller. He got the ninth inning with a one-run lead. He struck out two for his first save of the season. For the Yankees, Clay Holm. pitched a clean ninth for his fifth save. Also, if you're playing any saves plus holds leagues, Ian Hamilton has looked really good so far for the Yankees as well. For the Blue Jays, Chad Green recorded the final of four outs for his second save.
Starting point is 01:00:31 Sounds like Jordan Romano could hopefully be back soon. For the Braves, Rysel Iglesias got the ninth with a three-run lead. He gave up two runs, but picked up his second save. For the Cardinals, Ryan Helsley, got the ninth inning with a three-run lead. He struck out two for his fourth save. He's actually looked really, really good early on in the. season. Speaking of looking good for the Royals,
Starting point is 01:00:51 James MacArthur tossed a clean ninth inning with the game tied against the Astros. Then he stayed out there for the 10th with the runner on second base. Did not allow any runs, so just does not get any higher leverage than that. So I would just say he is the guy for now. For the Royals, he is their closer.
Starting point is 01:01:07 And then for the debacks, Kevin Ginkle got the ninth inning with a one-run lead in Corus Field. He struck out two for his first save. Just seeing now what happened in that Nationals game, Kyle Finnegan got the final four outs, but it was a little rocky, two hits.
Starting point is 01:01:23 Yeah, I think he ended the game with the bases loaded, if I'm remembering correctly. Yeah, but it was his fourth save of the year. So I guess an okay start. I'm seeing the ERA is a 5.4 for Kyle Finnegan. He's gotten hit real hard. It just hasn't, he hasn't blown a lot of, any saves yet,
Starting point is 01:01:42 but I think it's a matter of time before Hunter Harvey takes over. as the clothes are there. To stream or not to stream on Wednesday and I believe yesterday Scott and I went with Jordan Hicks against the nationals, Zach Lattell at the Angels and that's right Cody Bradford against the Oakland A's. Yeah those are probably the best options here. I wouldn't be surprised if Kyle Hendricks had a good start against the Padres but I think he'd be a clear fourth here. My NL Labor team could certainly use a nice Kyle Hendrix Start. On Thursday, it's a lighter schedule, so not too many names to choose from.
Starting point is 01:02:26 I guess if I had to choose anyone, I would say maybe JP France at the Royals or John Gray against the A's. I don't want to do Severino at the Braves. Yeah, like I feel okay about Severino in general, but not in this matchup. That's another one kind of like Carlos Rodan, where he has not had the slider so far. and has still been okay outside of that first start. So if he finds the slider, I feel pretty good about him. But yeah, not against the, not against the Braves. There's no way.
Starting point is 01:02:58 We are gonna wrap there for Chris. I am Frank. Thanks as always for tuning in some fantasy baseball today. Please make sure to follow and leave a five star rating on Apple or Spotify. And we will be back again tomorrow. Bye bye.
