Parker Meadows could be a sneaky ad.
Let's discuss on Fantasy Baseball Today Express.
Welcome into FBT Express on Tuesday, June 3rd.
I am Frank Stamphill joined by Chris Towers,
and let's get into the top waiver wire options in fantasy right now.
And this one goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway.
Go add Jack Caglione if he's available in any of your leagues.
I mean, he's up to 87% rostered on CBS.
I would imagine he is still out there in quite a few.
Yahoo League, so please go add Jack Caglione, the Royal's top prospect who's getting called up and will be in the lineup on Tuesday.
But after Jack Caglion, let's talk about Parker Meadows, Chris, who made his season debut here on Monday.
He went two for four with a steel, a double, a triple, two walks, and three runs scored.
He was awesome down the final two months of last season, and he's only 33% rostered.
Parker Meadows, man, I think at least in five outfielder leagues, he has to be added.
Yeah, and it wasn't just the final two months last season.
He was really bad at the start of last season, got sent down to AAA.
As soon as he got to AAA, he hit really, really well.
And then got called back up at the beginning of July, played three games, I think had four hits, maybe a home run, maybe two doubles, if I'm remembering correctly.
And then gets hurt in his third game and comes back a month later and finishes the season out great.
Six homers, six stolen bases, 299 average, 840 OPS.
looked really good.
And then comes back, first game back,
and I think this is the biggest thing,
he's hitting leadoff for what has been a pretty good Tigers lineup.
So, you know,
I don't know if he's going to hit lead off every day,
if he's going to hit lead off against lefties,
you know,
all that remains to be seen.
But the fact that they put Parker Meadows right back at the top of the lineup,
I think says something about how the tigers view him.
He stole a base in this one.
He walked a couple times, had a double and a triple.
Very good.
first start for Parker Meadows who I think in all five outfielder leagues needs to be
rostered and I think a lot of categories leagues you know maybe not 10 team leagues but 12 team
leagues if you've got a bench spot I think Parker Meadows has 20 20 upside with a batting
average that could help yeah and maybe an everyday player too I mean he's actually better in
his career against lefties and he is against righties so hope hoping that Parker Meadows
does get that opportunity to play every day what about Addison
and Barger of the Blue Jace, who over his last 22 games, is hitting 316 with five homers,
13 runs, 14 RBI, and a 987 OPS.
He is hitting the crap out of the ball right now as well.
31% rostered similar rate as Parker Meadows.
Chris, who would you rather have Meadows or Addison Barger?
I would rather have Meadows, but I know there are some people who are really, really high
in Addison Barger, and it's possible that they're right.
You know, he's got pretty good.
minor league track record was obviously pretty bad at the major league level last season,
hit 197, 27% strikeout rate, didn't hit for much power.
He's been awesome this season.
I mean, the underlying numbers, he has a 393 expected woe, but that is an elite mark.
His average eggs of velocity for the whole season is 95.1 miles per hour.
Max Egs of Velo, 116.5.
Last year it was 110.7.
That's a huge jump.
So maybe there is a legitimate breakout happening here,
but the thing I look at with Addison Barger is he's a little more than halfway to last season's sample.
And obviously last season wasn't very good.
So I just don't know how much more weight I should put on this season than last.
Meadows obviously was good last season, has a good minor league track record,
has more ways of contributing because he can steal some bases.
Barger doesn't really run much.
So I would give Meadows the edge,
but I can see the case for Barger.
All right, let's take a quick break
and we'll be back right after this.
Welcome back in FBT Express.
Let's slide over to the Waver Wire Pitchers.
And Chris, we've been telling people,
this is your last chance to get Yuri Perez
on your fantasy team.
He's making his final rehab start here on Tuesday,
Tuesday or Wednesday.
But it is this week.
So it means that he could be back as soon as
next week. He's building up that pitch count. Obviously, he's an electric arm. Wins are going to be
hard to come by, Chris, but it wouldn't surprise me if we get some pretty solid ratios and
strikeouts here from Uri Peres. Yeah, look, they're going to have to limit his innings. They're
going to be a lot of five-innings starts, especially early on. And we can look at Spencer Strider
and Sandy Alcantra and a few other guys who have not hit the ground running in their returns from
major arm surgery. That's well within the realm of possibility for Uri-Penzer.
Perez as well. But just a reminder that he was 20 when he made his major league debut. He had just
turned 20 when he made his major league debut because his birthday is April 15th. So he had only been
20 years old for like a month or whatever when he got called up. He had 91 in the third
innings in 2023, 315 ERA, 361 XERA, 29% strikeout rate to 8% walk rate. That is ace level
production. Now, we don't know if he'll be that good this year. We don't know how what the
workload's going to look like. I think there should be some skepticism with regards to both. But
I think call me a homer if you want. I think Uri Perez has best pitcher in baseball upside.
Like to do what he did as a 20 year old, he has not pitched at the major league level in a year
and a half and he's 22 years old. That's how that math works out. He's changed his curveball
grip so that it's more like a sweeper should give him, you know, another look that moves left
right. He doesn't really have that in his arsenal. I just think the sky's the limit. Maybe not
this year. Maybe it's frustrating and he struggles, but I think in the long term, Yuri Perez is just
about as talented as any pitcher in baseball. Another pitcher who looks very talented is Mick Abel of
the Phillies who made his
major league debut a couple
weeks ago against the Pirates. Six shutout
innings with nine strikeouts. He is making his
return to the rotation. He's going to
face the Blue Jays this week.
It could be a short-term stay, Chris,
because Aaron Ola will be back at some point, but it's
one of those where you pick him up
if he has another great start.
Life finds a way, man. Let's see.
Yeah, you just hope that he makes it difficult
for them, if nothing else.
And if all you get is
three or four good starts and then they send him back
down like the brewers did with Logan Henderson.
That's not the best case scenario, but the upside here if what Mick Abel showed us in
his first start was real, could be really impressive.
Now, it's worth noting that that was a big surprise.
When Mick Abel got called up for that start, we knew it was a spot start anyway, so there
wasn't a lot of interest.
But I think even from a performance perspective, there wasn't a ton of hype around Mick Abel,
who has is a former number one.
a former first round pick, but has really struggled to throw strikes, especially at the minor
league level.
He's been a little bit better this season, but a little bit better still means an 11% walk rate
at AAA right now.
So he might be working on things.
He might be more capable of throwing strikes than it appears, but I do think we have to be
a little skeptical about it, but we've seen it work at the major league level before.
And so I'm very excited to see what McABLE looks like and has.
return. Let's quickly wrap up with some relievers here. Luke Weaver apparently going on the IL with a
hamstring injury could miss four to six weeks. So anywhere that Devin Williams is available, he's 75%
rostered on CBS. Then after that, some other Weaver replacements. Camilo Doval, he's named the
Giants Closer, 72% rostered. Daniel Palencia has looked pretty good for the Cubs. He's 62%. And then
a little bit further down in deeper leagues if you need saves, Robert Garcia at 27% rostered. For more
