Starting point is 00:00:00 Let's break down the top prospects moved at the trade deadline up next on Fantasy Baseball today in five. Welcome into FBT&5 on Saturday, August 3rd. I am Frank Stanfield, joined by Scott White, and we will begin with five prospects who've already reached the majors. Connor Norby, who is now with the Marlins, Joey Loperfito to the Blue Jays, Kyle Stowers, also to the Marlins, Jake Bloss, also to the Blue Jays, and Jose Tena, who was acquired by the Nationals. Scott, one or two names here that you would like to touch on. I will say quickly that I know some of these guys technically aren't prospects anymore. They've exhausted their eligibility for that, but they're not established major leaguers.
Starting point is 00:00:42 So I did want the chance to highlight them. Connor Norby, I think, is the one people are most excited about from this group. And he's had good numbers in the minors the past three years. This is a big change for him, not just because. it was going to be hard for him to find regular playing time at Baltimore with all their young hitters, but because that park Camden Yards with the left field fences pushed way back was going to be a backbreaker for Connor Norby, who does not have a lot of raw power. He does not hit the ball especially hard. He has to rely on angling it properly to get it out. He's done it in the minors. That park seemed too big in Baltimore for him to do it. Miami's a big park too,
Starting point is 00:01:22 but it's not so exaggerated. I think Connor Norby has a chance with the Marlins. And then Jose Tena, who I feel like is not getting a lot of attention here, but he's hit for power, speed, average in the miners, not an imposing presence, 5 feet 11, but the exit velocities are actually pretty impressive. 91.5 mile per hour average, 112.1 mile per hour max at AAA. So I think there's sneaky upside here for Jose Tena. he swings and misses a little too much, but he's only 23,
Starting point is 00:02:01 and Cleveland there was a ton of infielders blocking him in Washington. He might just settle in as their third baseman. I think there's a chance of that happening. All right. What about five prospects who could soon reach the majors, Augustine Ramirez, and Davidson de Los Santos, who were traded over to the Marlins, Nick York to the Pirates,
Starting point is 00:02:20 and then Charles McAdoo and Will Wagner, son of Billy Wagner, Both of those went to the Toronto Blue Jays. So if I'm putting together my top 100 list for 2025 right now, of all the prospects we're talking about here today, Augustin Ramirez would rank the highest on that list. He actually broke through in the Yankee system last year. Didn't get a lot of attention, but then he took it with him into the upper miners this year.
Starting point is 00:02:48 AA, AAA, AAA's hit for good power, a swing that's geared for it, fly balls to his pull side, good exit velocities, and really good plate discipline too for Augustine Ramirez. He's actually stolen a bunch of bases, not fast, so I'm not sure that skill is going to translate, but he does a lot of things really well, and now with the Marlins,
Starting point is 00:03:13 he has a better chance of settling into the majors. I doubt it'll be a catcher, but his bat appears good enough that he could play other positions. And then we'll go with Davis and De Lo Santos here, the other player going to the Marlins and the AJ Puck deal. He's coming over from the Diamondbacks, where he was maybe the most productive hitter in all the minors, any level, certainly in the conversation at least.
Starting point is 00:03:42 The numbers were probably inflated by really good, really hitter-friendly environments at both AA and AAA in the Diamondback system. But he does hit the ball very hard. The exit velocity readings are great. So far, switching to the Marlins' AAA system, it's gone well. I still don't think he's as good as the numbers appear, Davis and Delos Santos, because his chase rate is so high over 40%. And I think major league pitchers are going to be able to exploit that.
Starting point is 00:04:09 But there's a path for him now with the Marlins, and we're going to see him, I think, sooner than later. and Delos Santos. And five prospects who are still pretty far away from the majors, but they were moved at the deadline. George Claussen went over to the Angels, Robbie Snelling to the Marlins. Dylan Lesko and Aiden Smith both went to the raise,
Starting point is 00:04:28 and Alex Clemmy went to the Nationals. So Robbie Snelling, a lot of publications had him as the top left-handed pitching prospect in all of baseball coming into this year. He had a 182 ERA, 10. 0.2K per 9 last year. But then this year's been just a total disaster. ERA over six.
Starting point is 00:04:52 He ended up being just a part of a package for a reliever rental, Tanner Scott. So clearly the Padres were like, forget about it with Robbie Snelling. But good by, low opportunity here for the Marlins. There has been a dip in velocity that I think largely explains Robbie Snelling's struggles this year. But if they could get that back, and there are ways to get velocity back, then he's only 20 years old. They may be able to redeem him. You don't want to forget about Robbie Snelling.
Starting point is 00:05:23 Aidan Smith of the raise, this was somebody I was not that familiar with, came over from the Mariners and the Randy Rosa Raina deal. I like a lot of what I've seen. He is only in low A, but he stands out mostly for athleticism. There's a ceiling there because of how athletic Aidan Smith is. and yet he already has a leg up in two areas that are generally late to develop. Understands the strike zone has reached base at a 402 clip at low A and already has a swing optimized for power
Starting point is 00:05:56 with a high fly ball rate 44.1% and a high pull rate 51.7%. So it does seem like there are tools here to build off with Aden Smith and already sort of a well-calibrated approach. He still needs to master like pitch recognition and those sorts of things. But I like the upside here for Aden Smith. All right. For more extensive fantasy baseball coverage, listen to the Fantasy Baseball Today podcast on Spotify.
