Starting point is 00:00:28 Terms apply. watch episodes of financial audit a week earlier, check us out on YouTube. What? I'm going to Switzerland. Oh my f***. When? When? This is not funny. Shut the fuck up. Sometimes for some of my flight, my nudge will help me out. You seem like a daddy's girl. This is miserable. You are impossible to talk to. You have no breakthrough. You are a brick wall of dumb. Hi, my name is Paige. I'm 26 from Austin, Texas, and this is Financial Audit. Thanks for coming into the studio. What do you do for a living here in Austin?
Starting point is 00:01:04 Thank you. Currently, I work in retail. What do you do? At Lulu Lemon. Oh, you didn't have to tell me where, but I'm just like, what do you do? Retail's huge. All-encompassing. Sorry, I sell clothes.
Starting point is 00:01:19 I walk dogs. Yeah. Oh, 26. You walk dogs at Lulu Lemon? No, no, no. So I work at Lulu Lemon, and I also walk dogs on the side. Ah, side hustle. Okay.
Starting point is 00:01:31 What do you make a Lulu Lemon? I make like 1750 an hour. Okay. How many hours a week? Usually around 30. Okay. Yeah, that would be pretty hard to live in Austin. That's a little hard.
Starting point is 00:01:47 So, I mean, that kind of gets us to about $2,000 a month before any kind of taxes or anything. Just off of that with no time off. If you're not taking any time off. How much are we making with the do? What? We also get bonuses. Based on? Based on?
Starting point is 00:02:01 Based on sales. How often? How often we on our second paycheck of the month? Cool. What do you normally get? What normally hits your account from Lulu on a monthly basis? I want to say it's closer to $2,500. Okay.
Starting point is 00:02:16 Maybe. Obviously still difficult to live in Austin off of that. So how much will we make from the pet walking or sitting or whatever? So I usually do that about 10 hours a week. So that's usually like, I'll say 300. $300, no, sorry, $350 a week doing that. Are taxes set aside for that automatically, or do you have to set aside taxes? So in the app, I think that they do set them aside.
Starting point is 00:02:42 What do you think? How do you not know? I don't know. I guess I haven't really looked into it. How long have you been doing it? I think I started, well, I don't think. I know. I started about like a year ago.
Starting point is 00:02:53 A year ago, so there would have been a little owed last year. Do you claim the income from the dog walking on your taxes? I think it was less than, I think it wasn't that much. I didn't make that much doing it. Did you claim it? No. Uh-huh. Pull up your app.
Starting point is 00:03:12 Show me where the tax. Okay. That set aside the taxes in the app is. Alleged set aside. Okay. Monies. I think it does. That's great.
Starting point is 00:03:25 Show me. Or is it like, is it a 1099? Is that right? Is that what it's called? Maybe. Or is that what I'm supposed to file? Why don't you pull up the app? Okay.
Starting point is 00:03:36 Show me the tax thing. I'm trying. It's loading. Okay. Did you not join the guest Wi-Fi? I did. Or it says Rover fees. So I'm assuming that's what it is.
Starting point is 00:03:46 I'm waiting for it to load. No, I doubt. I bet Rover fees is them making a little bit from what you're making so that they can make money as a company. The rover fees. You thought the... Oh. Is it? Okay.
Starting point is 00:04:01 Okay. $30, $80 for a set and you thought the Rover fee of $16 were taxes being set aside for you. Yeah. When have we ever seen taxes being taking from us with the company's name and the word fee after it? That's true. I guess I've never. How do you think Rover makes money? I thought it was just out of the goodness of their heart.
Starting point is 00:04:25 Okay. Well, come on. Yeah. How do you think they make money? Come on. I know. There's no ads. assumed that it was taxes and how they were making money.
Starting point is 00:04:34 Why? Why did you assume this? I'm so confused. I don't know. I think I just did. Okay. So yes, you are going to receive a tax form at the end of the area. You're going to receive a form from Rover at the end of the year so that you can use that, submit it, and your tax returns. And you will likely have to pay taxes. And I highly doubt there's anything you can write off. Okay. How much? And it's $1,400 a month? Yeah, about that. Okay. I mean, you don't make crazy money, but it's like, even still, there is, the government wants their money.
Starting point is 00:05:06 Let's be honest. It's going to happen. I don't remember a savings account. Oh, yeah. So I actually, yeah, that's true. You would be correct. How are you going to pay taxes? Even if they're little.
Starting point is 00:05:20 How? What are you going to do? I was getting grinded out, you know? That's not a, like pick up more, like pick up more. dogs or then you know more taxes next time that's true but then i'll have a plan in place why don't you have plan on place now well that's why i'm here i'm starting to shut the fuck that's what that's what everyone says that's the stupidest thing in the world i'm asking you questions so i can figure out your life i'm asking questions so i can figure out how you approach all this yeah that's why i'm here is not a get out of jail
Starting point is 00:05:49 free card stop with that shit yeah that's fair hey that's fair okay how are you living on austin texas on a 900 hours a month. How do you feel? How do you feel? With some of that should be set aside for taxes, but must say it's not because we know you're not. Well, you're a giggly thing. Okay. Sorry. It's okay. It's okay. How are you living in Austin? How are you feeling? I mean, I've done, okay. Like, most of the things that I like doing are like outdoor activities, but I definitely do not have like a lot of weight. Let's talk about survival and not what you do for fun. How are you living in Austin? How do you feel? Yeah, it's definitely tough.
Starting point is 00:06:31 Like, it's, yeah, I need to either make more money or do a better job with what I have now. Why do they only have 1661 hit from payroll? For. In the last month. Hit your accounts, unless there's a super secret account you didn't give us. That's, well, it's Apple Cash in $1,000. What was that? Oh, that's dog walking.
Starting point is 00:06:52 What was the Rover, $1,200? That's, so I, like, I have regular clients. So, Rover's actually double, Dogwaki is actually doubled. 2000? I didn't think it was that much, but. I don't know. I got a thousand fifty in from Apple Cash within the month. One thousand, two hundred twelve from Rover.
Starting point is 00:07:12 Yep. A payroll 1661. No, that doesn't line up with your 2,500. Even double that doesn't line up with the 2,500. Maybe I just did my math wrong. You don't know how much you make? No. Wait, what's your hourly rate again?
Starting point is 00:07:27 Like 1750. And then you say you always work 30 hours a week Well like at the end we get bonuses That's what I mean On the second paycheck we get a bonus Yeah but this was a month's worth of statements It's possible that maybe it was missed one by a day But are you saying I make less than I thought
Starting point is 00:07:45 I don't know dude I'm asking you For a fuck sake I'm just trying to get the baseline dude Yeah And we had transferred in from savings So what was that? What did you transfer in from savings to your checking $804. That might have been.
Starting point is 00:08:02 Wait, to pay. It just went into my checking. You put $700 in your savings and you pulled $800. Dude, this just happened. I'm so confused. How do we have the... I'm sorry. Like, how are we on that level of a few weeks later?
Starting point is 00:08:18 I really, I have no idea. $800 is not insignificant to you. I was probably paying my credit card bill. You put $700 in savings and took out $800. I think I move money around as I get it. Okay. I want to ask this question. I roast people and it's fun and you know, we get your consent and everything for it beforehand.
Starting point is 00:08:37 Yeah. I want to ask you this out of just legitimate, genuine, not as an insult. Okay. Are you dumb? No, I'm sorry, like legitimately. Are you not smart? I think I'm pretty smart. Okay.
Starting point is 00:08:54 I just don't, I don't have a great grip on my finances. Okay. Okay. How much do you think you spent in the month? Of course, you think you make a total of 3,800 or so. That's what you think. Maybe it's a little more or maybe it's a little less. What do you think you spent?
Starting point is 00:09:13 Like including rent and everything? Spent total. All the money. Spent, spent, spent, spent, spent, spent. Probably all of it. Okay. Yeah. How about a number?
Starting point is 00:09:21 3,800. Okay. 5,294. What are you talking? talking about. I did not realize that. Let me guess. That's why I'm here. I wasn't going to say it. I was not going to say that. But I really didn't know that. So what is going on in your life right now? I want to know. We'll jump into these finances in just a minute or so. What is going on in your life? Because you clearly have no knowledge about your situation. What you know, that's something we want to,
Starting point is 00:09:49 we obviously want to help with and get you to a better place. But what is going on in your life? life right now surrounding all this best description possible that you can attest to. Yeah. So I think for me, I just moved here. Oh, really? From where? Yeah, from North Carolina. When?
Starting point is 00:10:11 About two months ago. Oh, shit. Okay. Yeah. That's a big move. Okay. For why? So I have friends in the area.
Starting point is 00:10:20 I was just really excited about it. I've always loved Austin. Wasn't for a job? No. kept the same job. I transferred my job from... You transferred the Luz? To Lulus? Yes. Yeah. So I transferred from... Actually, I started in North Carolina, transferred that job out to Australia and then transferred it to Austin.
Starting point is 00:10:38 The F-Australia? Yeah. Yeah, I lived in Australia for about six months last year. And then I... Hold on. Are you not going to... Do you move every six months? I stay mobile. But... Is the preparation and everything we do here not going to... adequate because you're going to move from here in four months? No, no. This time I'm, I'm settling down. Tell you, you get bored four months from now and see your dream life in New York City or something.
Starting point is 00:11:04 No, see, I think I'm really excited about Austin. This is kind of where I want to be, you know. Because the friends? Yeah. That's why. Yeah. That can be a good reason. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:14 I love music. I love like. Okay. We can get that a lot of places. Live music capital of the world. Sure, more live music venues per capita than anywhere else. Right. Right.
Starting point is 00:11:23 Like, I just, I love the area. I love being outside. The lake is awesome. I wanted to live in a city. I wanted to live in a city. I've never done that before. Every city has a city. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:31 So I'm just like, I'm just trying to like, why are you actually going to stay here? Friends, that's an actual real reason. Yeah. I really missed community like in all my travel and like moving everywhere else. That was that was tough for me. Yeah. So. Okay.
Starting point is 00:11:45 So you just moved here. What's going on? In terms of. I asked what's going on with your life. That was the first thing you said. Yeah. I wanted you to resume that. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:54 So, I mean, I just moved here. I'm settling in. It's been great so far. And right now I kind of just want to get everything in line so I can keep living the life that I love. What does keep living the life that you love? Get everything in line. Yeah. But you spend more money than you make so you'd be going even further from the line.
Starting point is 00:12:14 What is living the life I love? What are you trying to get to? Well, I'm okay with living prugally, like in my day-to-day life. What are you talking about? No, you're not. Yes, I don't think. you know what frugal is. Yes, I do.
Starting point is 00:12:28 I mean, I really, I don't think I'm an extravagant spender. You spent $5,200 when you think you bring in four. Well, I haven't, so like, you recognize, yes, I move around a lot, but most of that is like for travel, for like fun things, that kind of thing. Like. And I can enter not being an extravagant spender. Did you just hear the things you said? Do you not even know what words are?
Starting point is 00:12:56 Yes, I do, but I just mean, for me, that's what's important to, like, to travel, to see things. Then what the f*** are you going to do? There's no frugality in that. I mean, there could be if you're a nomad, but you're not not the way you spend. What are you talking about? You're going to $1.80. Do you not know what you're saying? Do you not want to know what any of those things even are?
Starting point is 00:13:14 Do you not know what things cost money? They do. I know they do. No. Then what do you mean then? But I still, I still want to, like, okay. So starting out how I got this debt initially. Yeah, sure.
Starting point is 00:13:29 I basically, so I was living in Colorado for four years. Sure, of course. As a ski bum. Yeah, I was. As a what? A ski bum. Like, I wasn't making much money. I was working at a ski resort.
Starting point is 00:13:41 Basically just doing all that. Didn't have any debt then. And then I decided that I wanted to move to Australia. Okay. So I could learn how to surf, did that. And then I was like, you know what? Let's keep this party going. I want to go to Asia.
Starting point is 00:13:57 So then I spent about two months traveling around Asia, got my yoga teaching certification because. Because. What the fuck are you on? Because I want to teach yoga. That's what you want your thing to be. Well, that's the fashion. One of the things, yeah. What are the other things?
Starting point is 00:14:17 Well, I mostly just. I mostly just work to live. Oh, my gosh. What? What? Work to live. Maybe, but you spend more. You're not working enough to live.
Starting point is 00:14:30 Your life. So let's talk about something every business owner fears. Running out of cash when you've got payroll to hit or a new project on the line. I've been there. Starting point is 00:15:51 Let's jump back into the episode. So that's not true. You go in debt to live. Yeah, I would like to avoid that. I mean, I already am. Why don't you? You're not. You're not avoiding that.
Starting point is 00:16:01 What do you mean? No, you're not. No, I know I'm already in debt. So why aren't you doing that then? That's a great want. Usually people that want something to do it. I'm trying. No, you're not.
Starting point is 00:16:12 What do you mean? You spend $1,200 more than you bring in. Yeah. Smile all you want. That doesn't make it true. Yeah. I think I didn't realize how much money I was spent. No, shit.
Starting point is 00:16:23 That is the most obvious statement I've ever heard in my life. It's a wake-up call, for sure. Why aren't you doing it? You say you know you want to. You say you want to. Yeah. So why not then? Well, I work all the time.
Starting point is 00:16:39 You work 40 hours a week with both jobs combined. Yeah. Well. You don't know what all the time is. There are 168 hours in a week. You work 40 hours a week. Yeah. So you have any point that has any kind of standing or is this all going to be bullsh?
Starting point is 00:16:58 It's not bullshit. That was bullshit. And what you said before, that was bullshit. So where's the non-bullshit? Well, I'm just, so I was doing a really good job. Yeah? When? What did that look like?
Starting point is 00:17:10 When I first came back from Australia, like I was living at home, but that's because I didn't really have any bills. And then- We could all do well if we don't have bills. I know. And so that was good. So I like kind of got that in my corner. and I was kind of like Got one in your corner
Starting point is 00:17:27 No disciplines required for that I know that's true That's true I think I just need to learn how to Pay for the things That
Starting point is 00:17:41 When I say it out loud Like pay for the things Do you hear any of the things You're saying out loud This is all wild I just mean I just mean it's like I didn't
Starting point is 00:17:53 I really didn't realize I was spending so much money. And I was like, why credit card balance not going down? Are you fucking kidding me? No, I'm not. Did you ask yourself that? When did you ask yourself that? Obviously not.
Starting point is 00:18:06 So you didn't ask yourself, why is my credit card balance? Well, I did ask myself that. When did you ask yourself that? Because I was like, when? Should I? When? Probably like two months ago. Why didn't you look at your documents then two months ago?
Starting point is 00:18:19 Why didn't you look at your documents then two months ago? I was like, well, I did look at them. I just looked at them. Then you would have found out. It tells you how much comes in, how much goes out. Yeah. But I just thought, I thought that I was like putting more money towards this. What am I dealing with right now?
Starting point is 00:18:39 What are you? No, that's not funny. That's not funny. That better be some cop laugh. Some copium. I just, what? I just didn't realize I was spending so much money. How many times are you going to say that?
Starting point is 00:18:53 I don't know. It remains true. But you could have looked because you asked yourself two months ago and you wanted to know two months ago and you could have found the fuck out, but you chose not to. Yeah. But we don't know why. Well, I've known about this debt. Like, I knew that this was going to happen.
Starting point is 00:19:07 Like when I decided. What was? When I decided to travel, I knew I was going to put myself in debt. Okay. And you weren't traveling two months ago, though. Where are you got here? And then you asked yourself, why is it not going down? And then you didn't look at a number.
Starting point is 00:19:19 Okay. So I guess it was more than two months ago. But I wasn't. I wasn't really facing the realization like, oh. Were you working in Australia? Yes. Oh, Tolulu. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:19:28 Okay. What is that your career? I mean, it's okay if it wants to be. Well, not forever. What are you going to do? You're 26? Yeah. What do you want to do?
Starting point is 00:19:38 What have you done? This is Euphoria Calvin Klein, the new elixir collection, featuring three perfume intense scents, inspired by a unique orchid accord, paired with vanilla, each with its own distinct attitude, each with its own universe, bold elixir. sensual, woody, addictive, magnetic elixir, sweet and romantic like a lingering touch. Solar elixir, a radiant expression of joy, ultra-concentrated for amplified impact and lasting power.
Starting point is 00:20:04 Find your euphoria. Discover the euphoria elixir collection by Calvin Klein. You have college? Do you have what? Yeah, I did go to college. Did you graduate college? Yeah, I have my bachelor's and my master's in economics. What the, what the f-f? No way. Yeah. So.
Starting point is 00:20:25 Then this. Are you from? It doesn't even matter from where. Do they not teach you? What is happening? You graduated? And with a master's? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Guys, if you think your qualifications only come from a degree, watch this episode. I know. Like, what the fuck? Like, do you, but you don't know how to budget?
Starting point is 00:20:49 Apparently not. You don't want to do anything with that? I do. I do. It's really hard right now to find a job. What do you mean? Like, I've been applying. I've been applying for...
Starting point is 00:21:00 Two? What? Two? Two, like, analyst positions, consulting positions. Like, literally... I could hire you as a consultant. I've been on LinkedIn. I have been on LinkedIn.
Starting point is 00:21:14 Well done. Okay. But I have been looking. I don't know. How? Okay. How many jobs do you apply to a week? Usually like six a week. Okay, shut the fuck. It's not even close to enough. That's not enough a day.
Starting point is 00:21:27 Really? Kidding me? Do you not know how competitive? People want these jobs. Are you kidding me? You think six a week is going to get... What? Are you serious? How many should I be applying for? Minimum six a day? A day? Ten a day. What are you talking about? Do you want a job or not?
Starting point is 00:21:42 Yes. No shit I've got to put into work. Show me a resume. My resume? Show me a resume. It's the word I just said. Okay. Guys. If you want better value for money than apparently an economics degree and you actually want to learn something,
Starting point is 00:21:57 our budgeting, investing, and our debt class are all bundled together at 25% off. Make sure you guys check that out. Better value and you actually learn what the fuck do with money. I don't have one that actually has all of my... Okay, I'll show you. Then are we surprised we're not getting a job if you don't have a resume that shows on your... I do. It just doesn't have everything on it.
Starting point is 00:22:17 because you can only do one page. Okay. All right. Let's take a look. So it's from Clemson. Okay. Go Tigers, baby. LPL financial remote,
Starting point is 00:22:31 junior economic consultant. So we had something. And then before that, I was in like, well, actually at the same time, I was only doing contract work for LPL. And then during that time,
Starting point is 00:22:42 I was also doing like customer service. Analyze financial data, generated reports and then the collaborative A bit, Bipip, P, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B. B, B, B, B, B, B, B, B. Chenex change. That was a long time ago.
Starting point is 00:22:53 Yeah. Yeah. I mean, the, hmm, it's not really showing your skills very well is the thing. And, like, Lou Lemen, I get it. I mean, it's showing that you're at least having something after that May 20203.
Starting point is 00:23:08 Yeah. And I have another, but. But this is, like, I hate this. This is, like, demonstrated problem solving abilities in a fast-paced environment. Lulu Lemon, if I, I hire people, you know, We have like a 13 person team now. I hire people.
Starting point is 00:23:19 If I saw that out, a chuckle. I'm chuckling right now. Ha, ha, ha. Well, I have to pay bills and I have to show the job. But it's just, I know. I get it.
Starting point is 00:23:27 It's just like, it's not demonstrating anything. I would try to thicken up maybe that LPL. And really. Just take the bullet points off of. Well, not necessarily. It's just like,
Starting point is 00:23:35 it feels like a waste of a bullet point. Because seeing demonstrated problem solving it, Lulu, this is like, well, I already have this big gap in my resume because like I said. No, just figure out the, if you,
Starting point is 00:23:46 Listen, AI is not 100% great for a lot of things right now, but it will at least give you the language oftentimes that are scanned through resume systems. So you can figure out the words and things you just need to have in here to get in touch with the recruiter in the first place. So it's just like, I don't know, you could probably just fill these with more algorithmic, enticing language.
Starting point is 00:24:09 Yeah. Because it does feel like a pretty mid-resum. It's not horrible, don't get me wrong. I thought it was good. It's okay. I wouldn't really know what I'm getting from you. That's true. At least with this.
Starting point is 00:24:20 I mean, you have a whole story at the top. Let's see. Looking to work with advanced tools like Google Sheets. Okay. Well, great. Well, I can code. I'm glad we focus on Google Sheets.
Starting point is 00:24:37 So take that off? Not necessarily. It's just how you constructed it, dude. It just reads silly. Okay. Sure. I, I, the stuff on the right with your skills,
Starting point is 00:24:48 with the data analyst and the programming and software and research you can do. That's pretty good. Yeah. That's pretty good. I don't know. The rest, I would really beef up that, the actual relevant job of what you're trying to apply into instead of having, like, I don't know, especially that, I mean, the internship, it's okay.
Starting point is 00:25:01 It shows past experience, but says I want to beef up what you're currently working on. Sure. And I think at the top was so long. Okay. My summary? Yeah. Okay. Yeah, it was almost like a cover page, cover letter.
Starting point is 00:25:15 I have that too. Oh, yes, you should. And curated to the. business and a more competitive market. That's fine. And obviously more than six jobs a week. And make sure it's curated for the job you're looking for and that it's being able to run through those algorithms. Six a day is crazy. Do you want a job? I don't want to work in retail for the rest of your life. It's not a bad thing if you want to. I don't care. But it sounds like you want a job. I do love my job.
Starting point is 00:25:37 So maybe you should do something about it and be an adult. I don't know. Okay, self-assess. Where do you think you are today? Zero to 10. Zero being the absolute worst. Ten being the absolute best. Financially. Five. I'm going to burn this building down. I don't. What? I'm like not that bad. I'm going to just ruin everything.
Starting point is 00:25:55 It's not that bad. Are you stupid? It's not that bad. You spend $1,200 more than you make. I don't know what you're talking about. And that's a substantial percentage. It's like an extra 20%. What the fuck are you possibly talking about?

Head to Calebhammer.com or click the link in the description. below. You will not regret this. If you want to be real about your life, get your own Hammer Financial Score and it'll tell you your real score, you can check that out, link in the description below. It's free. If you want to come on the show and you're not a complete dumb. Go to Calebhammer.com slash apply. Sorry. That's so stupid. Not that bad. What's not that
Starting point is 00:27:33 bad? What's not that bad? What's not that bad? Here's a giant credit card with interest accruing. Oh good! Oh good, there's fees. Oh, you know what? The fees are enough. We better go ahead and Purchase $2,612, essentially more than we make from our day job in a single month on a card that's accruing interest and getting damn fees. Wait, how much? Is that makes sense? Are you stupid? What? $8.4 cents.
Starting point is 00:28:00 $9. Oh, I'm getting old. $80 or $90 of interest. I don't know. I think a line smudged. But then $2,600, $12,000 of purchases. Also known is more than comes in from Lulu Lamen. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:28:19 Well. What the $256 a $5 a month? The minimum monthly payment mean you have to work rover else. You can't pay it. I think that like a couple hundred of that is I had like a doctor's appointment. Uh-huh. And what's your health insurance situation? I have insurance.
Starting point is 00:28:39 Uh-huh. I pay about, well, I have, what's the marketplace one? Uh-huh. I pay about $3. a month. What's your co-pay? What's your deductible? It's probably pretty high.
Starting point is 00:28:52 What was your appointment? What is it a brain scan? No, it was to check my hormones. What did they find out? I have a genetic mutation, but my hormones are fine. But that my mom paid for because she was concerned. And so I didn't have to pay for that. And so maybe that's where some of the money came into.
Starting point is 00:29:15 That's where I was going with that. $5,421. $83.0.8.0.00 with a minimum monthly payment of $256. And $28. Yeah. These purchases are insane. Insane. You are not a credit card person.
Starting point is 00:29:36 You are not even close to a credit card person. You're allowing fees and interest to accrue. Yet you spend more than you make from your day job in one month on here. Are you kidding me? You need to use something like the FISCard. It's meant for people like you anyway. The benefits are catered more to, you know, younger adults like us. So use it.
Starting point is 00:29:55 It's a debit card that builds credit because I'm sure you care about credit. Every line. There's so many liana. You always want the best for your family. And that means only Egglands Best Eggs in your kitchen. Compared to ordinary eggs, Egglands Best Eggs contain six times more vitamin D, 25% less saturated fat, More than double the omega-3s, 10 times more vitamin E, and more than double the vitamin B-12. So why give your family less when they can have the best?
Starting point is 00:30:21 Add Egglands Best, Superior Nutrition to your next grocery list. Better taste, better nutrition, better eggs. What are you getting from the Salvation Army? What are you getting? Well, I told you I just moved here. Uh-huh. So I had to furnish my apartment. Why is everyone saying had to?
Starting point is 00:30:40 When I'm... Sit on the floor? Sure. When I moved... here, I had a cheap air mattress. When I moved to Austin trying to get out of debt, trying to make it, I literally had a cheap air mattress that I slept on that was popped halfway through for six months. Three months it was popped. So I'd inflated before I'd go to bed. And luckily, after I fell asleep, about an hour later, it would deflate. But I was asleep, so it didn't matter.
Starting point is 00:31:04 I bet women love that. Well, I had a roommate, so we stuck to my car at the time. But yeah, so I do love to thrift. That's probably my. my biggest vice. Oh, it's thrifting. For f's sake, $28 there. Well, I don't want to say my biggest vice, but yeah. It's your biggest vice. Travel.
Starting point is 00:31:27 Apple bill, some in-app or a subscription or gems. Who the fuck? Rockin something. Amazon, Amazon, Alamo, Draft House. Ruby Tide Kitchen. Ruby Tide Kitchen. Spotify. You're spending $1,200 more than you make a month.
Starting point is 00:31:43 Maybe you should use a free plant. platform like YouTube. Eureka car wash. Great. You live in Austin. It's not sandy. It's not snowy. We don't get the salt.
Starting point is 00:31:52 Don't drop a bucket of water on your damn car. I drove my car across the country. Where's across the country? From North Carolina? You don't know what a cross means. You're halfway there. McDonald's. More thrifting.
Starting point is 00:32:07 Dollar Tree. Amazon. The Nata. I like DeNata. Me too. Yeah. You can't afford it. Sandy's hamburgers
Starting point is 00:32:18 American Air Oh for $1,700717 would you go? What are you going? What are you doing? Is that first class? Where are you going? It's so much.
Starting point is 00:32:29 What? That's how funny. You're fucking yourself. What are you talking about? Hey guys, the big expense out here is a medical thing. It's American Airlines. It's American. What?
Starting point is 00:32:40 I'm going to Switzerland. Oh, my. When? When? This is. not funny. Shut the fuck up. In January. Your life is on the line here, dude.
Starting point is 00:32:54 And it's clearly all a joke to you. You don't give a I do. No, you don't. You're laughing through this like it's all a joke. Ha ha! I'm destroying my life. Giggle, giggle. No. I'm going to Switzerland in January for a ski trip. Cancel it!
Starting point is 00:33:12 No. It's cheaper to go there. It's cheaper to go there than it is to go to Colorado. It's cheaper to not. Do any of it, you dumb. Human. Yeah. Yeah, but. What do I do here then? What do I do here then?
Starting point is 00:33:28 You don't make money. You just spend a thousand dollars, and I know you're going to spend more than that on this thing. What am I going to do? You're not willing to sacrifice. You're not willing to sacrifice. You're not willing to sacrifice. You go into doing the thing.
Starting point is 00:33:38 What am I supposed to do here? What am I supposed to do? What could I possibly do? What could anyone do? What could the producer do? What could Lindsay do who's talking to you? What could Jake do is making the surprise? She's what are the editor is going to do?
Starting point is 00:33:48 What could we possibly do? do. What could anyone do? You're not willing to cancel your shit that you want the most. What could anyone do? You don't care. You don't care. You're not willing to cut the biggest thing. What are you talking about? I think I think if I I can just save. Save you spent a thousand, two hundred dollars more than to make what money are you saving? Because I booked that trip. It's $700. What's bigger? A thousand two hundred or seven hundred. I mean, obviously $1,200. But I mean, it's not, I'm not doing that every. You have a master's degree in economics.
Starting point is 00:34:26 You're not stupid. Thank you for saying that. I just mean that's not. Stop acting it. That's not happening every month, though. I'm not doing that every month. It doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.
Starting point is 00:34:38 Do you not understand that $1,200 is more than $700 on a monthly basis? Do not understand that? You don't have to do this for you to spend more. You don't have to do this for you to spend more. But I want to go. I, whoa. What the f f-do I even say to that? What do I even say to that?
Starting point is 00:34:58 What? What do you want? Well, I mean, I'm... I am ready to just send you away. What do you want me to do? It's going to be awesome. Because I can get back in other areas. But you can't cut.

Starting point is 00:36:18 partners. How much more? But I'm not going to spend any more on it. I'm not going to spend any more on it. What do you mean? You're not going to eat when you're there? Yeah, I'm going to eat when I'm there, but not like crazy. I'm not going to eat like at the resort.
Starting point is 00:36:29 What do you mean? You already eat like a fiend. No, I don't. Kind of. You eat out like crazy? What's crazy? I don't. No, I don't know.
Starting point is 00:36:38 I called out of these restaurants on the first statement. Well, I just moved to Austin. That's why I went to Donata. That's my, what the house. Oh my. Oh, for fuck's sake. Why do? How are there?
Starting point is 00:36:53 Oh my gosh. If this show has exposed anything to me, it's just how many people like you are out there? How have we survived as like a species? Legitimately, how? And you're the qualified individual to speak on economics? How have we done this? How have we done this?
Starting point is 00:37:09 How have we made it? Oh my. This is insane. I don't think it's that bad. I don't know how to respond to that. I don't know how to respond to any of this. What do you want me to say? Don't.
Starting point is 00:37:22 These statements. Yeah, I know. But I want to have fun. No, I'm not going to spend any more money on it. I'm not. You're going to f***ing. Yeah, I'll go to the grocery store. You're not, though.
Starting point is 00:37:36 I know how you survive. No, I'm going to be. I just got to Austin. I have to go to Dinahana. I just got to Switzerland. I have to go to Shetla, gung, dang, dang. No, that's not going to happen. I'll go to the grocery store.
Starting point is 00:37:53 No, you won't. Yeah. You won't even know how to survive. It's just all going to be fish and bread. I'm okay with fish and bread. Fuck, sake. So what happens when you take nothing seriously? I'm taking it seriously.
Starting point is 00:38:05 No, you're not. Shut the fuck up. I'm done with you. Hey. Cars, McDonald's. More thrifting, dollar tree. Amazon. Dinada, Sandy's.
Starting point is 00:38:16 hamburgers. Oh, there's the American Airlines. Right. Terry Black Barbecue worst barbecue in Austin. Really? Okay. Third worst barbecue in Austin. Loulemon. Best? Yeah. Myth away law barbecue. Okay. Ruby Thai Kitchen. Lulu Lemon, $82. You work there. What is that? What is that? You have to work whole shift to get that. What are you getting? Are you getting booty shorts? What are you doing? Gotta show off for all the new Austin dudes on the hiking bike. Got to get out there. Show off them glutes. No. It's what I do.
Starting point is 00:38:47 I get out there and I'm like, ooh, everyone, look at me. I got my little lulu cheek pants. Well, I guess I didn't need, but I wanted a new sweatshirt and. Yes, for the 90 degree October day. Well, it's about to cool off. It's about to cool off. That's what they say. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:07 What did you move here? Why? Why? If you don't want the heat. Shut up. I do like the heat. You just cross your fingers. Charlie's Philly cheese steaks, great.
Starting point is 00:39:17 Shirts. Oh, yeah. Oh, good. Another $50 from Lulu. What did you get? What did you get? Get a little sweatpants for your sweatshirt? Honestly, yeah. Really? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:39:27 Amazon, $20, $15, $10 sweatpants. They're fine. They're good. Yeah. They're pleasant. I wear them. I just love it. See, how do I legitimately?
Starting point is 00:39:39 How do I interact with that? What are you doing right now? How do I react to that? How do I interact with that? Are you incapable? Do people go on dates with you? How do they have conversations? Have you ever, has anyone ever enjoyed being around you?
Starting point is 00:39:55 What are you? I would hope so. I don't think so. You're impossible. You can't have a conversation. Have you ever had a serious conversation in your life? If you ever had a discussion with a significant other, how do they present things? I don't like this little thing that you do.
Starting point is 00:40:08 I bet I like it. How do people get through to you? How have you survived? I have no idea. You are a creature. I don't know. I don't know. I don't know how to do this conversation.
Starting point is 00:40:22 I usually know how navigate most of these conversations. I don't know what to do with you. I don't know what to do with you. Well, I think, well, that is part of the reason why me and my last significant other broke up. Why? Because you couldn't listen to him? No, because I move a lot. That's not what I even mentioned there.
Starting point is 00:40:49 You are, you can't listen. You can't listen. And that's probably actually why. You fucking me. Oh. I wrote a little song to remind you. Choice Hotels gets you more of the experiences you value. The Canberia Hotels got it all.
Starting point is 00:41:04 A rooftop bar. Have a ball. Bring a date. Your squad or even your mom. Book direct at choiceotels.com. Oh. What do I have to be the one in the chair today? I hate this.
Starting point is 00:41:21 What? Not bad. Yes, this is miserable. You're impossible to get through. I have the biggest blessing in the world to have this job, but legitimately this is miserable. You are impossible to talk to. You have no breakthrough. You are a brick wall of dumb.
Starting point is 00:41:40 I'm trying. No, you're not. Don't use that word. You don't know what the word try means. You've never heard of that word. It's the first time it's ever come out of your mouth. I don't even know what it means. I don't know what to do.
Starting point is 00:41:53 No, it's not that. It's not that. It's not that. Obviously, I've thought about it. Obviously, I've thought about it. I'm trying to take action. But you're not. I'm so confused. You don't know what the word try means.
Starting point is 00:42:04 Trying to make action? No, you're not. It's not reflected in these statements. I don't, I don't get it. Listen, you have pay over time, pet boys and D.HL stuff. Oh, yeah, actually. Well, not DHL. That's done.
Starting point is 00:42:21 About PEP boys. Okay. And then you've had interest this year, basically $800 from one card. Are you fucking kidding me? You don't know how to look at a statement? You said you looked at your documents two months ago. Are you kidding me? Are you kidding me?
Starting point is 00:42:36 Go through our budgeting program immediately. I need you to go through a budgeting program and our debt program. It's not even an option. It's not even an option. I'll lock you down and make sure you watch that. Take the quizzes. You don't, you didn't, you didn't know. You didn't know.
Starting point is 00:42:49 How did you not know? I don't know. And $24 of fees. Okay, what was your fee? What was your fee? You had a plan fee. You had a plan fee. That's what it was.
Starting point is 00:42:58 Probably for the financing. Wait, what? What did I finance? Pep Boys. Oh, yeah. The one we talked about two seconds ago? Sorry. Uh-huh.
Starting point is 00:43:10 I thought I paid that off, though. Apparently not. $472 left on it. A substantial number. Okay. You did not look at your documents. You lied. Oh my gosh.
Starting point is 00:43:21 Okay. I love the city double cash card. You f-f-fused it. I did a balance transfer because I thought that I was going to be able to... Oh, she did it. You did the thing. You did the thing. You did the thing.
Starting point is 00:43:37 You did the thing. You did it. I'm not supposed to do that or that's good. Where did you balance transfer from? Because... Where? Where? Where?
Starting point is 00:43:47 Did you balance transfer from the chase card? Uh-huh. What did you bring the balance down to on your chase card with your balance? Initially, I think it was like double what's on there, probably like. You brought it to double what's on? No, no, no. So it was double on the chase card. What, but the, ba, bah, bah, bah.
Starting point is 00:44:05 Hey, when you transferred from Chase to City, what was the remaining balance on the Chase card? I think like 4,500. Really? Yeah. So you've actually brought it down? Nope, you brought it up. Never mind. No, I forgot what number you had.
Starting point is 00:44:23 Great. So it didn't even matter. It didn't even matter. You transferred and then it went up. This is what they do. This is what everyone does. Unless you fix the behavior that actually got you there in the first place, then it doesn't matter. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:44:35 Then it doesn't matter. You transferred. Then you had more room to spend. So you spent because we have to travel. We have to spend. We have to go to day nada. Just move off and have to go to day nada. I thought that I was going to give myself time to hang it down.
Starting point is 00:44:46 How'd that go? Not well. Not well. But I really, so I still have the zero percent interest on that car. So I'm like, I can still pay, I'm still doing the minimum on that. And then I'm paying more than the minimum on the higher one on the chase card. When was the last time you went on a date? Well, I just broke up with my boyfriend.
Starting point is 00:45:06 When? Like two weeks ago. Oh, shit. You haven't gone on a date since. No. Next time you do, report back to me. if he allows the second one, I want to know how these conversations go,
Starting point is 00:45:19 how you interact with humans. Because this is insane. But I'm hoping it's only insane because it's about your finances. But I don't know, man. You've got a personality. I cannot. I cannot deal with.
Starting point is 00:45:33 Great. Okay. So we are at $4,171.99. Yeah. Sometimes, sometimes for some of my flights, my dad will help me out. So it's not just me.
Starting point is 00:45:48 You like chubby boys? Me? Yeah. You can have someone in mind? Yes. Who's that? Okay. We'll bring you into the live stream and we have a chubby f*** boy named New Brandon.

Starting point is 00:46:58 It helps fun the channel as ad rates are always up and down. Trust me, it helps us a lot. But we have a lot of fun things. That's where you can watch the post show as well. That's curious. This is actually going to be, I am legitimate about this. This is a good test. So this is a good test.
Starting point is 00:47:11 I want to see if you are, if I can watch you have a conversation without wanting to punch something. Okay. $42. Find him handsome? Yeah. Nice smile. Good for Brandon.
Starting point is 00:47:27 Okay. Well, we'll discuss this more in the post show. Well, let's get back to the finances. We goon in the post show. Here is finances. If I can make it. Yeah, it's a 0% until... I think December.
Starting point is 00:47:42 A year from now, essentially. Yeah, I like that card. What is that? Because that's 0%. I'm sorry. I'm just being mean to you, but I do not. like your personality. You are such a... What? There is no word to describe you.
Starting point is 00:47:57 It hasn't been invented yet. I need... You're a bent. It's not a real word. I just made it up. Moisten bint. I'd love the cimitar at me. Because you qualify for that. You need a new word. You're a bint. You are a disgusting bint. Not disgusting, but you're a bint. Bloody peasant. Hainous bent. Hainess. I don't...
Starting point is 00:48:15 No, there's no words for you. What is this? What am I looking at? What am I looking at this? That's Venmo. Okay, yeah, I know it's Venmo, but is this just your Venmo? This is a Venmo? Credit card, what am I looking at? I was just my transaction. Okay, who are you Venmoing? Are you Venmoing?
Starting point is 00:48:28 What are you getting? How tall are you? I'm 5-9. Okay. Brandon's, I think, 511, so it works. Nice. We're the same height. 120.
Starting point is 00:48:41 Oh, what did I send money for? Probably Uber's, probably. Hold on, I can't read it when you're... Oh, look at it then. Thank you. Oh, this is for the... This is for the... This is for the Switzerland trip.
Starting point is 00:48:54 This top one. And then these, I think, are Uber's or dinners. Well, for the Switzerland trip. What about it? Our stay. $25. Okay. So now we've gotten to almost 1,000.
Starting point is 00:49:06 It has to be 1,000. I mean, you probably already spent something more, right? No, I haven't. You're probably going to need a special little outfit for all the Swiss. I haven't. I have only bought the flight, and I've bought where we're staying. You're going to bring all your gear? Yeah.
Starting point is 00:49:19 That's probably going to cost money. Yeah, probably. Probably like 300 bucks. Who are you looking? Look at me. Sorry. Brandon's not over there yet. Calm down.
Starting point is 00:49:28 Yeah, I'll probably, I mean, I'm planning to save a little bit for that. Oh. Well, here's the student loans for the degree we are incapable of using. Yeah? Yeah. They're all on deferment? Mm-hmm. Why?
Starting point is 00:49:42 That's just what happened. Wait, when did you graduate? With my bachelor's 2019. My master's, 20,000. 20. Okay. So you went to an income deferment so you could go f*** around. You probably were like, I make no money.
Starting point is 00:49:57 Please get me on income. No, I didn't put them in deferment. No, no, no, no. You probably put them on an income repayment plan. Yes. You're like, yes, I make no money because I want to go travel the world. So please don't make me pay back the debt that I signed. That's great.
Starting point is 00:50:08 I'm glad our resources are all being pulled for that. Wonderful. I am paying every month. Instead of people who are low income because there's literally no other option for them. I am low income. And they actually need. So you could travel. But technically I am low income.
Starting point is 00:50:23 Yes. So you could do Australia in Asia and Switzerland and Colorado and then North Carolina in here. So you could do all this. You chose that. This is not meant for you. It's meant for people who cannot survive, which it should be. And now it's deferred because it's being challenged in court. And I hope they strike yours down specifically.
Starting point is 00:50:46 just yours. The rest, it could go either way. I don't care. I see the pros and cons. Wait, so. No, but I pay every month. No, you don't? There's no...
Starting point is 00:50:57 Oh, hold on, maybe. Hold on. But they're all... Okay, well, you're paying something that's not required, because there's no due date. I don't think you're... Is she paying? Do we have a statement?
Starting point is 00:51:05 Is she paying? Yeah, it's in my... It's not much, but... Me. What day does is... Nah. Okay. Yeah, how much?
Starting point is 00:51:15 How much you put towards it? A month? Mm-hmm. I think maybe $26. You probably are not required to. They're all in the firm right now because they're being challenging court. So I don't have to pay that? I don't know, probably not.
Starting point is 00:51:29 I would look before you don't. Is this another debt? No, that's my... Wait, that might be my car loan. Nope, that's my checking account. Hold on. Hold on. Car loan?
Starting point is 00:51:42 Yeah. We don't have a car. Thanks, yours too. What does Rabb stand for anyway? To me, it's the remarkably advanced vehicle. Really? To me, it's the runway approved vehicle for its amazing style. What about remarkably adaptable vehicle because of its versatile cargo space?
Starting point is 00:52:00 Or really admired vehicle? Oh, or really awesome vehicle. It really is the recreational activity vehicle. The stylish 2026 Toyota RAP4 Limited. What's your Rav for? Alone? She didn't say anything about a car loan. We didn't know.
Starting point is 00:52:18 you didn't tell us there's nothing. Yes. Nope. And I would not trust you. You're not a reliable narrator. What's your car loan for sake? It's... What's your car?
Starting point is 00:52:30 Let's start there. 2019 Superview Cross Trek. Okay. I can't picture that car. What's owed on it? I think about 17. Oh, for fucks. That is, you can't afford...
Starting point is 00:52:42 When'd you get this? Like two years ago. And what made you think you can afford this? What's the... $350 bucks a month. Yeah, because you put the...
Starting point is 00:52:53 They are making so much money off for you. Congratulations. You are lifting the American economy from the ground. That's what you
Starting point is 00:53:01 use your economic degree for so you could just lift up the American economy by stretching out your damn car loan. You needed a car. You didn't need a $17,000 car loan.
Starting point is 00:53:10 Two years ago it was harder. Don't get me wrong. But either way, you stretch out your loan term. So long. That way, Your minimum monthly payment could be lower, so it feels affordable.
Starting point is 00:53:23 But your interest is just accumulated, accumulating, accumulating. Yeah. Just like your income-based repayment on student loans. You're paying less towards it. Guess what? They accumulate even more because you're putting nothing towards it. What's your interest rate on here? I have credit.
Starting point is 00:53:37 Maybe five. You don't know. Pull up your credit. Do you have credit karma on your phone? No. Great. Do you have it? How have you been able to survive that?
Starting point is 00:53:46 Are you supported by your parents or something? How have you been? Oh, what is? that face. No. No, that has like daddy's girl written all over it. You seem like a daddy's girl. Do your parents know about all this? Are they in your life? I don't know. Yes. Yes. Do they know about this? They know. Well, yeah, they know like what I've been doing. Are their finances good? My dad's financial advisor. Are you kidding me. Economic Master's degree, financial advisor, dad. What are we doing? We have failed. We're done. Drop the nuke.

My dad pays for my phone bill. That's a little.
Starting point is 00:55:20 Okay. That's not crazy. And then, but yeah, no, it's, it's just me. You have a roommate? Yeah. Okay. Because there would be no other option for you. Okay.
Starting point is 00:55:32 Um, my producer said the only thing you ever said about a car was a totaled car. Do you have a totaled car? Um, no. I have totaled a car, but that was a while ago. Okay, you don't. That's why I had to get. You're not a reliable narrator. This is impossible.
Starting point is 00:55:48 You don't know what you're saying. No, I have the Subaru and then I. I know. didn't tell them correct information. And then, well, my parents still support me, but like, if I'm having, if I'm having, like, a bad day or something, I just remembered my, my dad will sometimes just, what's a bad day? Like, when, wand, Dad Dee, pick up please, Dad Dee. No, not at all.
Starting point is 00:56:09 Dead Dee, I said it. It's like a gift. Think of it like a gift. Daddy, I just went on a date and he thinks I'm a crazy, so he's not going on a second. No, please. No. You know, it's like you're talking to your friend and you realize, oh, like they're going through something.
Starting point is 00:56:21 or whatever and you get him a little treat. It's like that. Oh, for a fickle of. Okay. He gets you sweet treats. You have a sweet treat, Daddy? I guess so. What, when?
Starting point is 00:56:30 How often? How much? Not that much. What? Maybe like once a month. What? What does he get you? Like, 100 bucks.
Starting point is 00:56:36 Oh, that's a lot of money. No, it's not. 100 bucks? You have no respect for the dollar. 100 bucks? I could do a lot with $100. I could get many a sweet treat with $100. That's true.
Starting point is 00:56:46 That's why he sends it. I got the entire office sweet treats today and delivered, expensive. You know, and it was less than $100. What are you talking about? $100 is a lot of money. What do you? You have to, what's your hourly rate? You creature?
Starting point is 00:57:00 What is it? 1750. You have to work almost six hours to get that. Well, and then after taxes, you mean, you probably have to work like 7, 8. Yeah. Gotta work a whole damn day just for that. And that's not a lot of money. It's helpful.
Starting point is 00:57:17 It's helpful. I just don't like that you don't have respect for the dollar. I didn't mean like that. Yes, you said, you said it's not a lot of money. What do you mean? No, it's a nice thing. It's a nice thing. Sure, but what else could that mean?
Starting point is 00:57:26 I don't think that means anything else. I was going to set you up with domain money. We set everyone up that we think could work the financial advisor to domain money. They're my financial advisors. They're great. I love them. You have a debt as a financial advisor. Talk to him.
Starting point is 00:57:40 Does he know about your situation? Like that I'm in debt. What does he know about your financial situation? He knows. He knows. He knows that I'm in debt. He probably doesn't know the exact number. So you know that you spend $12, $200 more than you're going to want the aises?
Starting point is 00:57:54 Probably not. Should we call them in the pro show? Maybe we'll give them a call on the potion. Oh, for the sake. Okay, so this is your checking account. $2,000 in there. It's not a bad balance I have in a checking account. It's not.
Starting point is 00:58:09 Venmo $200. I don't, oh, is that for the... Yeah. Yeah. That's it? Oh, your checking account's not much. Okay, it's money back and forth. So you only spend on the credit cards.
Starting point is 00:58:19 A credit card that is accruing interest. Yes. A credit card that has fee. A credit card that is not even close to being paid off. A credit card that you spent more than what you make on a monthly basis. I think you can only spend on a debit card. You don't know how money works. You don't know how money works.
Starting point is 00:58:33 I think you can't. I think you need to close your credit card. What? Really? Yeah. Yeah? What about like the points? Do you think you got more than $80 in points this last month?
Starting point is 00:58:44 City double cash is two points on purchases. Purchase a thousand five hundred. Got $30 in points, but it costs you $80 an interest. The fuck you're talking about. I didn't know that. Are you alive? Closed what? What?
Starting point is 00:59:07 My credit card? Yeah, you just, you, listen, you, you transferred it to another credit card. You balanced transferred. And then you racked the back up again. Yeah. You don't know how to manage. You can become a credit card person. You absolutely can be, but you need to prove that you can, like a debit account for at least like six months.
Starting point is 00:59:24 You need to prove you have the discipline that you can budget that you know what you're doing. Yeah. With your credit card, you're just overspending. You're destroying your life. It's allowed you to do the $1,200 more than you make on a monthly basis. Yeah. It gave you that ability. This looks like the first.
Starting point is 00:59:41 Well, there it is. No, it was. It looked like you were taking this seriously. No, I am. I am. Like, it actually hit you, it looked like for a second. I didn't realize it's like. And then it came back to smile, the little, like.
Starting point is 00:59:51 That's just, I think I didn't realize, obviously I didn't realize that I didn't have that money already. So I think I thought I was spending less than what I was earning Vanguard Wait, why is there a $12? Wait, what's happening? Do you not have enough money in here? So Vanguard's giving you a $12 fee? What?
Starting point is 01:00:14 No. Oh, there's a $12 fee. Oh, probably because I just opened it. Okay, maybe. And also. It may include record keeping administrative or purchase redemption fees. I also have a Roth IRA.
Starting point is 01:00:28 I just couldn't remember the login information. much is on it. About $12,000. Whoa. What? That you did from where? Your parents had nothing to do with that. No. Well, I mean, my dad invested it for me. Where'd you get the money from? I just put it in there. Like I said, where did you get the money from? You spend more than you're making. You have debt that doesn't make any sense. But it was a while ago. Oh, a while. Why'd you f*** your life since then? That all of a sudden is incredible. Yeah. Probably like five years ago. When was the last time you contributed to it significantly? No, it's been a while.
Starting point is 01:01:05 So why were you in a better place at 21 than you are at 26? What made you digress to a child? So here's what happened. I decided to travel and hate everything. No, I put about $3,000 in there when I first opened it. And then when I was working for another company, I had a 401k. That was vested. And then I had to.
Starting point is 01:01:25 Did you contribute in the match? Yeah. And so then they, my dad told. me that it would be a good idea to roll it over once you were done with that job yeah okay that's a little different because the match helps and it's okay well it's 401k and i still i still contribute to what is this vanguard for that's my current 401k okay it's pretty low it's 600 seven hours what's what's your percentage contribution i think 15 wait when did you start it's so weird that there's like this shining little thing and we didn't even know this like we don't have a
Starting point is 01:01:59 document for your Ross. Because I couldn't remember the password. Okay, cool, cool, cool. But like, I'm so confused how everything is so bad yet there is this shiny little thing. This must be the financial advisor part of the dad. Right? Yeah. Yeah. He, I mean, either way, it's not going to save you though. If in your life outside of your investments are all just, you know, barely scraping by for that getting worse. Yeah. Um, I think that 401k started. Jake thinks you might need to get your PhD in economics in order to remember your passwords. That's my dream. No, it's not.
Starting point is 01:02:33 Yes, it is. You can't teach people. Why? That is my dream. And you're going to do what with that? Be a teacher, professor. Oh, good thing you don't not apply for jobs. Let's figure out if you have some wiggle room in this here budget.
Starting point is 01:02:51 Let's make a budget. Okay, so income, we think, we need to set some money aside from that rover. we have to. So I'm setting 400 of that 1,400 aside, okay? Okay. And it might not even need to be that much. Put in a high-ield savings account. It's like so-fi.
Starting point is 01:03:07 A month? Yeah, of the 1,400 that comes in. Okay. Well, especially since you need to play catch-up anyway, but as we're playing for, like, if there is a significant bill due, you know, we try to budget for it or we get an extension and then we just pay it as soon as we can,
Starting point is 01:03:21 but we're always saving up for this next year's taxes. It might be overboard for your income situation, but even still, because so much of it is contractor. If it's in a high-yield savings account and there's a little leftover at the end of the year, great. You know, this is bonus, I guess.
Starting point is 01:03:39 Not actually, but. So we're going to do $3,500 your income. Debt payments. Okay. $674. And $28. That's insane. What's your portion of rent?
Starting point is 01:03:55 $1,100. Your portion? Your portion is how much? 1,140. Yeah. Is that too much? For you, in this situation, your portion of utilities? It's all together, like, people on the Internet.
Starting point is 01:04:11 Oh, all, okay. All utilities? All utilities. You don't have a single extra payment. No. Okay. Are there insurance? Is that included as well?
Starting point is 01:04:21 You have that part of it? You don't need it in Texas legally, but you should get it. I don't have it. I'm putting an extra 15 bucks, okay? For renters insurance? Yeah, it's cheap. But get it. Your phone bill, you don't have to take care of it.
Starting point is 01:04:34 When you do, use helium. It's the same towers as T-Mobile, $15 a month. I love them. They're great. They help people when they're trying to budget. Gas, vroom, room, drive, drive. How much on a monthly basis? That's gas.
Starting point is 01:04:46 Probably $200. That's generous. Sure. Car insurance? $140. It's not horrendous. Necessary food, you can do $300. Congratulations.
Starting point is 01:04:57 You're only going to the grocery. store. You're new and single. If you want to go out to eat, have someone else pay for it. Winky face, winky face. Okay, you know what I mean. I'm also kind of joking before someone gets offended. Pearl Clutchers. T.P. Fund, anything else you need. This is $100.00. This could be makeup. This could be all the, you know, womanly necessities and, you know, everything else you need to survive. Okay, medical health care. Anything required on a monthly basis? Co-pays. Yeah, I mean, I pay about 60 plus 30 so about 90 dollars a month for medication okay and then how much was it for your health insurance
Starting point is 01:05:36 three dollars so 93 okay gym uh that's covered by my work do you have any pets no I wouldn't yet okay I'm not good why because I love walking dogs like that's where I get my fix okay okay I know I know I know good good I just I don't want you too in your financial position it's expensive to properly take care of them Anything else I need to put in your budget that I do not have yet. Not that I can think of. Maybe like an emergency fund. Is that what that $400 is for? Uh-huh.
Starting point is 01:06:06 Or $400. Oh, that's for taxes. Never mind. Yeah. Sorry. Yeah, I'm sorry that it doesn't say Rover fee next to it. A couple months, two months, two months of that, go into a savings account, okay? So that you have some baseline in case something happens, okay?
Starting point is 01:06:27 That'll get you about $1,16. So your first two months is all into the savings account. Month number three, we are going to start with, which we knew, the interest rate in your car. We're going to attack the Sapphire first. Well, actually, let's see how long that takes the payoff. That'll be about 5,300. No more spending on cards. Again, I would close them for you because you're just really not responsible.
Starting point is 01:06:53 And it takes six months to pay off. So we are nine months in. The interest starts on city, but it's not back interest, I think. So with that, that's okay. So that takes six months to pay off and then the interest card is gone. And then we actually have an extra $250. So we're over $1,000. We're at about $1,100 left on a monthly basis.
Starting point is 01:07:12 Then we have the city double cash, probably about $3,800 then. And we have $1,100. We pay that off in three and a half months. $10,000. So we're going to call it conservatively a year in one month. Okay? Okay. Your car payment, your car is too much.
Starting point is 01:07:30 So I want to start making some progress on that. Your payment itself is not. We can probably minimum monthly payments on the student loans because they're probably at a low interest rate, especially for when you took them out. Okay, maybe we aggressively pay $7,000 down on that car, try to get it to about $10,000 hours. Then we minimum monthly pay off. So let's call it we're going hard.
Starting point is 01:07:53 We're going crazy for a year in a half, okay? A year and a half. And then probably let's call on our other half. half. So two years total because the second half of that second year, you're saving up your fully front of emergency funnel, which is six months of your living expenses. Okay. Okay. So two years and you're actually in a good spot and then you're still like one year younger than, oh wait. No, you'll be my age. No, it'll be one year younger than me. So you still have a lot of life to live. Okay. It'll be 28 at that point. And you have a long time. And we can start catching up on.
Starting point is 01:08:26 Your investments are still behind for your age. I am shocked by that little that came in at the Roth and All right. But what? I'm behind. You only have $15,000. Yeah. That's not going to get. Compounding interest.
Starting point is 01:08:42 Economic degree of work. Okay. Okay. So we start contributing 20%. Okay? 20%. It's my 401k. Retirement accounts in general, but sure, 4.1K.
Starting point is 01:09:00 So I could do like 5% IRA 15. I would at least take your match, whatever is necessary. for your match. Yes. There's a match. We also just need to get a better job. Do you have a degree? You have a master's degree.
Starting point is 01:09:10 They might see that you're overqualified, thinking that you're going to get into a job and then leave it quickly. That's what they might see when they see that master's degree. Okay? That's kind of the hard part sometimes about a master's, without going all the way to the PhD or instead getting the master's potentially while you're already in a career. It gets a little complicated.
Starting point is 01:09:29 It gets weird. Put yourself in a weird position. Okay. But that could, one, speed up the process. but two, you know, are in a place where you should get a better job for your career that you want to do. So that's okay. But two years and you're in a baseline place and you have a great rest of your life left. Pull up your LinkedIn.
Starting point is 01:09:50 I want to actually see these applications. I want to see what you're actually doing. I want to believe this. I've also been applying for- Not going to let Brandon go on a date with someone who's not applying to jobs. I don't want them to all of a sudden to just get someone that's going to live on his couch. So I'm not only applying. on LinkedIn, but here's my LinkedIn.
Starting point is 01:10:08 You're the one that brought up, LinkedIn. I'm applying on, like, just regular career, career stuff. And, yeah, just like regular websites for jobs. Applied on website one month ago, year ago, year ago, year ago, year ago, year ago, two years ago, two years ago, two years ago, two years ago, two years ago, two years ago. You f***ing lied to me. Three years ago. I'm not.
Starting point is 01:10:31 I'm not. I don't apply on LinkedIn. Okay, let's see. In progress? saved, two. Archived, maybe that. No longer accepting jobs, I can't see when these were. I wish I could see when these archives were.
Starting point is 01:10:46 But even still the in-progress seeing that there's not, or applied seeing that there's nothing sooner than one month ago, they wouldn't have all been archived. If you're applying to at least a few a week, they wouldn't have all been archived. You would have had one from like yesterday. No, it's, I didn't apply to any yesterday. You get my point though.
Starting point is 01:11:04 Yeah. Even a couple days ago, there would have been something. And it was for yoga instructors. There was nothing on your resume to suggest anything related to yoga. I have a different resume. Let me see that resume. That's for my, that's for like strictly yoga teaching. No shit.
Starting point is 01:11:19 I also just remembered I'm going home for Christmas, so I need to pay for my plane to get home. Budget it in. I'm not horrifically opposed to that. Yeah. But you're doing front tier. You're cheap and it. up. Yeah. And I don't want Dad to pay for her, but...
Starting point is 01:11:38 But what about gifts? You're not doing gifts. Don't be dumb. Shut the fuck up. Gifts? Make something. You don't be stupid. Give yourself the gift of getting on the debt instead of being the failed child. How about that? Dad would appreciate that. Mm-hmm. How long does it take to find a resume? Because I haven't used it in a while.
Starting point is 01:11:59 You just applied for that job. Well, I have... Look at here. How about this? I'll show you. These are all of my resumes and cover. letters that I am making for other jobs. Making? Yes. I cater them. But it won't show me when this was used last, last opened, at least on here.
Starting point is 01:12:19 I promise I'm not lying about applying. I definitely do not have not been applying for enough. Okay. For what it's worth, you've opened four of them today. The other ones were open weeks ago. Yes, because I like to use the same ones and then edit it a little bit. Okay. Okay. Okay. Listen, I think you just need to apply more. Make sure they're catered. I'm not necessarily opposed to that. I mean, I am glad you're doing six a week. You know, I'm definitely pushing your buttons. But more than six a day, you need to get that better job, okay? Because you have the degrees necessary, the qualifications, and you want to work a better place. That gives you the ability to get out of this quicker, even though you already have the degrees.
Starting point is 01:13:07 the ability to do it in two years if you're not just putting all your wants above what you actually need okay so stop being a child and you can actually get there we'll talk about this date in the post show maybe we'll call the dad in the post show yeah we'll talk more about that oh it's gonna be interesting because i want to see how you if you're the same kind of entity i don't know you it feels like you kind of came down to earth in the last 10 minutes or so which i appreciate feels like it at least hit home maybe it took a lot to break you down more than normal
Starting point is 01:13:40 but I really I did not like this conversation at least for the first 40 minutes you feel a little better now spending a budget you overspent zero out of 10 debt adding more to that
Starting point is 01:13:54 Sapphire I can't give it better than a two for your situation that car is actually pretty bad okay one emergency fund took it all out zero retirement definitely behind for your age. You're going to give you a four-year income for where you are and everything. Well, just in retirement where you want to be in general, it's going to be a two.
Starting point is 01:14:13 Real estate, zero-tenth. What? You said five out of ten. Hammer financial score rounded up. One out of ten. Guys, make sure to join the membership. Join us for the post show and everything else. It's going to be super fun.
Starting point is 01:14:27 That's where we get into all the tears. Okay? Tears. T. I'm losing it because of you. Oh, okay. Make sure to check out our investing, budgeting, and debt program. It's all 25% off.
Starting point is 01:14:43 I'm losing my damn mind. Let's go into the post show. Is everyone excited for the date? One that I'm going on a date with? Yeah. Okay. When is the date happen? We'll do the live stream right after this.
