I'm a verification specialist. What are you verifying?

Starting point is 00:01:41 Medical insurance benefits. Okay, very good. What are you making this job? $40,000 a year. Lexington, Kentucky. I'm going to assume it's like, if we're looking at like median United States, it's probably written around there,

Starting point is 00:01:52 maybe a little bit low. I'm thinking it's that crazy. Unless I'm completely wrong, but I'm not the most Kentucky educated person. How many hours a week are you working? 40. Okay. Why are you septim piercing?

Starting point is 00:02:03 You're not like the classic septim piercing. You're kind of more of like, you should be translating to Karen. No. I mean, you look like you're supposed to be, but you're in septim piercing land. It doesn't really make sense. I used to have purple hair. Oh, fuck. She did.

Starting point is 00:02:46 Okay. Oh, I certainly hope this dude makes some money. What do you do, Luke, for a living? I'm in food service. I actually have two jobs. I work at a fast food restaurant part-time. Which one? Yeah.

Starting point is 00:02:59 Yeah. Dude, that gravy. and those tenders are fucking... The gravy is very easy to make. Well, it's gravy. Okay, and what do you do with that? So I'm a cook there. Sure.

Starting point is 00:03:10 And then I work at a middle school as a lunch lady. Right. And how many hours a week do you work there? What's your pay in both of these locations? Gotcha. So I'll start with the middle school. That's my main job. It is contracted.

Starting point is 00:03:21 So what that means is I got a set contract for however long the school year is, whatever. But not independent contractor. No, no, no. Yeah, correct. So basically every week I make $311, or every two weeks, my apologies. So it's $6.22 a month at the middle school. What the fuck we do?

Starting point is 00:03:42 Okay. And then $11 an hour. What do we do? No one makes that low anymore. Take it up a dairy queen. No, take it up with Lexington. Why are you there? Okay.

Starting point is 00:03:55 No, no, no. I get it. I mean, let's minimum wage in Kentucky. $7.25. Okay. So federal. Yeah. That makes sense, but dang, yeah, Lexington's a little behind.

Starting point is 00:04:04 It sucks. Well, but that usually means the cost of living there is likely cheaper, which is what I was suggesting at the beginning. And I might have to look it up. Okay, how many hours a week are you getting there? Derry Queen, it's going to be 80 hours a month, give or take. Because it's... A month?

Starting point is 00:04:20 What do you take home a month? I think I estimated like 1,500 a month. That's with both combined. You are 35. Indeed. Well, you should be on indeed because you're making $1,500 a month.

Starting point is 00:04:39 But I'm a lunch lady. How cool is that? Not because you're making $622 a month from that. It's not very cool, is it? No, not at all. I can't stand it. What the fuck? Parents coming out.

Starting point is 00:04:50 Huh? How is that not cool? Oh, you're not... You're not getting paid enough to fucking pay bills. It's a fun job, though. Being a lunch lady? The kids are fun. You know how many fights I've seen in the lunchroom?

Starting point is 00:05:02 That's what we're basing our entire life around, seeing kids beat each other up. Well, it's like, go work in juvie. You'll make more being a card. I've done that before. Do it again. No, that shit's stupid. But being a lunch lady is not? I mean, well, I mean, well, to do any, what's the highest paid person in your lunch lady service, do you know?

Starting point is 00:05:23 Is there like a decent career position that? Because the lunch ladies, I, you know, when I went to school, it's the same people forever. They did it forever. That's true. But they couldn't do this forever, not that income. I work with some dinosaurs. I will say that. They've been there since Jesus was born.

Starting point is 00:05:39 But that means they're like having a career. Right, right. So basically. So what's the difference between you and them? The longer you've been there, the more you get paid, right? It stops at $19 an hour. And that's after working there for 10 years. 20 years.

Starting point is 00:05:53 20 years. I want to make it a career. Cooking, at least. I have a feeling you're not necessarily on board with that. Look, she is, I'm speaking. She is like a spoiled brat, spoon fed, like, mommy and daddy give her everything. She makes the money. What? Well, what do you mean?

Starting point is 00:06:15 No, no, no, what do you mean? She makes the money. I mean, but she spends it on everything. But I have the money to spend. Well, do you? I mean, I don't think you'd be on this show if that's the case. I don't know if I'm going to agree with you there. Do you?

Starting point is 00:06:40 We did. At 11 o'clock. Tired as fuck, but whatever. We ended up getting something we did not need. I needed it. What? It was a watch for her daughter. In my nose ring.

Starting point is 00:06:53 Just because she needed. You actually just got that? No, the actual, like, ring part of it. Okay. Why did you need the watch for your daughter? Because she wanted it. She wanted a digital watch. Can you describe that as a need?

Fun's not going to get you anywhere. You need something to stay. you need something that is going to last throughout the summer. You need something that's going to pay bills instead of me having to cover like part of your bills.

Starting point is 00:08:41 I pay my bills. So I don't know why you're rolling your eyes about it. I pay my bills too. With my help. You don't give me a dime. Yes, I do. No, you don't. How are we disagreeing whether or not money is given?

Starting point is 00:08:55 That's like a clear fact. Like, you're good with giving me gifts. I'm cool with that. And whatever. That's not giving money to pay your bills. I can pay my money. Wait, then what are you talking about? I give him money to pay his bills.

We passed three of them on the way here, and he would not tell me, like, to pull over anything. Like, hey, there's a gas station over. her, hey, there's a gas station over there, and he just wasn't telling me anything. And I'm like, I need you to look up these gas stations so we can stop it. First of all, you did not tell me to

Starting point is 00:15:20 over my years of being an adult. I shadowed under a friendship for a year and a half. Why are you working in a... In a public school? Lexington's got some shit jobs. You either got to be... Why are you in Lexington? We, as a human species, move where there are opportunity.

Starting point is 00:15:34 Even back to the... Pollany. Well, that's why we're here. We can't afford shit to even move. No, you can like, well, shit with kids, that is a little difficult. Okay, fair enough. And like my family is around where we live. She's not going to move away from them.

Starting point is 00:15:46 Yeah, but that's like a sacrifice we have to do for a better life for our own kids, right? This is something we have to do. Like, I could have stayed in my small town, smaller town, Kalamazoo, Michigan, forever. I wouldn't have had the same opportunities that I've been blessed with since. I moved to a place with opportunities. I was an adult. I made the choice. But do you think your life would really be different, though?

Starting point is 00:16:04 if you were somewhere else because even still there are people eat at nicer restaurants in Lexington still. Promise you. Okay. You're stuck as a cook at how can I take anyone's word that you're

Starting point is 00:16:18 a great chef that's ready to open a restaurant? Do you support that venture? Kind of. It takes a lot of money until like... That's what I was going to say and you're already against him making $1,500 bucks a month. Are you ready to do two, three years with no money? Do it.

Starting point is 00:16:34 Because it's going to be money in, not money out. You want to go havesies on that? Like, I mean, I can do some gourmet pastries, some cinnamon rolls, some pumpkin rolls. Okay, have you heard me speak positive about this yet? No. So you are, she's already struggling with you bringing in 1,500. It's going to be a couple years before you generate a profit. Usually with most restaurants, food truck might be a bit easier.

Starting point is 00:16:55 But you could help me start it. You can run the whole thing. Okay. I'll could. I appreciate it. Obviously, I'm not going to. Shut the fuck up. So what are your thoughts on this?

Starting point is 00:17:04 Like I said, it's going to take a while to, like, build up. Maybe. That is true. So what are your thoughts on it, though? Like, that is a fact. Now, what are your thoughts? We have other shit to take care of right now. Like, we can't just, like, drop everything.

In the United States. You don't even have a car? How do you get to how do you get to school? Take the bus with the kids. My dad's car. So we do stay with her parents, by the way, in a grand. Starting point is 00:19:43 She has made me into who I am now. I get set off by anything. I go from zero to 100. It is your fault. Okay. I have never been treated like this in any relationship I've ever been in. Treated like what? Tell me.

Starting point is 00:19:53 Like dog shit. But tell me. I need examples. She has repeatedly yelled at me. I remember one thought we had. We were on the way to her daughter's basketball game. and it was about me going down to the basement to go clean up some stuff. And then it was maybe 10 minutes.

Starting point is 00:20:10 And she's like, where are you been? And I'm like in the basement cleaning. And she's like, why didn't you tell me? I'm like, oh, so are you my mommy now? I'm talking. No, no, no, no, no. Let me. Hush, you do the same thing to me.

Starting point is 00:20:27 You'll be like, what are you doing? Where are you? I can literally get up and go to the restroom. What are you doing? Where are you going? I don't, but basically like, you messed up my turn of thought because I was talking about the argument. We were driving to the basketball game. Thank you. So I'm thinking myself, right, third person? That's cool, right? No, it's not. So she, we were yelling at each other over the fact that we, that she was saying, like, where are you at, all that stuff?

Starting point is 00:20:58 And she has some kind of psychotic break or something. I don't know what the fuck happens. She's driving. I began to like start fearing for my life. She's like slamming her hands on the steering. and will. The kids in the car? No. No. I thought maybe we were going to go into a ditch, whatever. It was not that traumatic.

Starting point is 00:21:15 It was. I got PTSD. There's no chance. You fight every day. Not like every day. Not every day. What? We have good times.

Starting point is 00:21:23 Yeah. The good times outweigh the bad, for sure. Yeah. Okay. Why'd you come in here on a bad time? She came me out to, not three, but like 11.30 at night at Walmart, because she needed the nose ring and I'd watch for her. daughter she did. Last night? Yeah. In Austin. Yes. Scared she unless you didn't

Starting point is 00:21:42 other stores. I really, I really, but you didn't even get a watch for your daughter in Austin. It just, I happened to find it because I was looking for one anyway and I just found one. You didn't need to be at Walmart at 11.30 p.m. the day before coming on the show. Then we're still going to be in like $30,000 a debt. And then you're going to start a company that's going to take like two years until you barely break even and the margins aren't even great. But we already established that's going to go towards paying for the death that was used for the wedding. It's going to go for the honeymoon that I want. I don't think she'll do that.

Starting point is 00:51:30 Okay. I worked at a resort. Worked or work? Worked. I actually do work. Anyway. So I worked at the room. resort and I was a inventory specialist and I would go and make sure these rooms had what they needed

Starting point is 00:51:46 in their room. Okay. I don't like where this is going. I had access to their storage facilities. One day I noticed that they had no cameras in there or even around there or even leading down to my car. So they were about to remodel one of the towers at the resort and they had probably 100-something 48-inch TVs. Oh, my, dude. So it was a very slow day. So I actually had have somebody there with me to open it up. I didn't have a key for the storage unit. But I did notice that there was a big space in the door.

Starting point is 00:52:20 So I got a butter knife, popped it right open. Went in there, took the TVs out of the box, left the boxes, kind of put them back where they went messed with. I loaded them into a big linen cart, rolled about three TVs down to my trunk of my car, put them in the trunk of the car. I did this for like a week or two weeks. What? That's how far times. Like this all started because I was in the bathroom, sick as a dog, throwing up, and he was getting mad that I was even up there. And he kept yelling at, well, like, through text. I'm not seeing anything in the text that is like you, he's like, it sounds like he went up to pee. You got upset in this conversation. And he's very upset that literally he can't exist around the house without you freaking out. There.

Starting point is 01:22:23 If someone, man or woman doesn't matter, just has to tip to around their entire house. and it's not a safe place to be? So do I. He was literally accused me. You're not saying that. He was accusing me of cheating while I was sick. He was so upset that I couldn't be down there with him because he needed me. Well, that's crazy.

Starting point is 01:28:28 $80,000 month? $82. Okay, $100. I fill the Jeep up $20. that lasts for like a month, a month and a half. 120. Car insurance, how much? Mine is $136?

Starting point is 01:28:43 T.P. Fund, how much? Okay, that's for you and the kids, anything else to survive, $300. It's tampons. It's taking them to school activities, all that good stuff. It goes up and down, but $300, and then what is covered in that $300 is different every month.

Starting point is 01:28:58 Yeah. Okay. Okay. Medical health care, how much? Co-Pays, medications, all the good stuff. I have Medicaid. My co-pays range from 25 to 50. What's your child support?

Starting point is 01:29:07 Is it taken out from your pay? No, I'll pay. I can. I shopper. So it's 137 for my daughter. And then it's roughly 200 a month for my son. Yeah. Okay.

Starting point is 01:29:20 And what did you say your medical was total? Cofface and everything? We'll say 50. Any gym? We want to. it no. Okay, Jim, 50 bucks. Subscriptions, I'll put 50 bucks. You got any pets?

Starting point is 01:29:34 Well, a cat. Cats per, yeah. Okay, 50 bucks, pet insurance. How much for cat food? And litter? 60 bucks a month. Anything else that needs to be in this budget? What do you got so far? I'm sorry. The TP fund would be like for school supplies and things for the kids. Okay. Again, it changes what it goes to on a monthly basis, but yes.

Starting point is 01:29:54 It's the catch-all for everything else. You make it more detailed than your dollar-wise budget. Right. You guys have leftover money, $2,491.24. Where does it go? Yeah, it's bullshit, because she spends every dime on Tim Hortons and everything. Yeah, you miss that, but she spends a loan money. He makes my coffee now, so that's stopped. Wow, a basic minimum.

Starting point is 01:30:19 $1,200 needed to survive. What was it? You don't even have to, like, collections we can negotiate later. Okay, the big, bad scary debts right now. I mean Yeah, so let's save up $4,000. Get rid of this, but then you have to get $10,000. You get a $10,000 Jeep.

Starting point is 01:30:36 Okay, let's pretend. Yeah, so let's make it, let's make the car balance. Actually, $14,000. So you're going to borrow for, sell the car, and pay that off, and then get a $10,000 a loan for a minivan. Okay. Plus, $1.22. I mean, the thing else is in collections, dude.

Starting point is 01:30:58 and you're paying all that off in 11 months. And then the collections, you're just negotiating or paying off one to one. Right. I got a... So that's actually pretty easy. It's like a year and then maybe another year to negotiate collections.

Starting point is 01:31:11 Then get a fully funded emergency fund. Then move out. You can have your own place. That's really nice because your credit's a lot better. You guys can totally do that. You have a paid off minivan. Everything's totally fine. Then maybe we get your own car as well.

Starting point is 01:31:22 Then you're doing 50-30, or 50-25-25. You need to catch up in retirement. 50% of needs, which you can do. And this business thing I'm very concerned about. We'll talk more about them in the Post Show because I need to taste what you can do first. I got you. And, yeah, you guys will be on track of retirement, but we need to think, we need to think career at that point.

Starting point is 01:31:43 But pay off all the debts and the car and the minivan and everything that you're going to get, and that'll take 11 months, and you'll be fine. Then fully funded emergency fund, then move the fuck out. And start catching up in retirement. It's really not that difficult. You just need to figure out what you want to do for your career. Okay, let's get there for financials. but in the post show we were definitely going to taste this thing.
