Starting point is 00:00:00 Don't you wish you could just hit skip on the worst parts of your life? You know the same way you can skip an ad? I get it. I'm Siaia and I live in Ice Cove. I've made some questionable decisions that didn't end up the way I planned. And today I'm still figuring it out. Somehow things usually get worse before they get better. Apparently, that's how I roll.
Starting point is 00:00:22 So bundle up and come along for the bumpy ride. Stream a new episode of North of North Tuesdays on CBC Gem. Okay, when I sell my business, I want the best tax and investment advice. I want to help my kids, and I want to give back to the community. Ooh, then it's the vacation of a lifetime. I wonder if my out of office has a forever setting. An IG private wealth advisor creates the clarity you need with plans that harmonize your business, your family, and your dreams.
Starting point is 00:00:53 Get financial advice that puts you at the center. Find your advisor at IG Private Wealth.com. Live from New York. The show is starting to get a clearer picture of what's actually happening in the NFL. You think? I'm starting to get a clearer picture of what's real and what's not. See, Brew, the only reason he is saying that is because for what I can only imagine is some weird bet he made with like a friend.
Starting point is 00:01:23 He wants to for the second straight week. I haven't said anything. There's this meme of a lady on a plane. I have seen that. I have seen that. You've been dropping hints of me. He just won't stop. I've seen that.
Starting point is 00:01:35 He did it without confusing to figure out what's real and what's not. So that's why he's like, I'm getting a clearer picture. I'm getting a clear picture. But I still don't know what's real. The Texas defense is just going to be bad all year? They weren't bad this week. Well, they allowed just having them. I mean, the fact they allowed 20 points and seven of them were
Starting point is 00:01:55 one of the greatest catches I've ever seen in my life. You've got to get a hand up. First hour of first things first. Well done, Jamar. Chiefs are back. Why this team already looks very, very dangerous. Meanwhile, Ravens lose their home opener to Tyler Shook. Remember they called him a poor man's Josh Allen.
Starting point is 00:02:13 Look like the real man's Josh Allen there for a little bit. Tush push bro. You see that game? Yeah. How concerning was this loss? I'll let you know. Okay. And the Cowboys win.
Starting point is 00:02:24 And could Jerry Jones's strange quote be a sign that they're going to make some roster moves? Max? I mean, maybe. Go get Max! I'm peepy. Alongside Chris Brassard, I'm Kevin Wilde and a very energetic Nick Wright. Yeah. Feeling good.
Starting point is 00:02:41 Fries from Vegas. I'm just glad he didn't break the table. Well, you guys told me not to do that. I've slept for probably four hours, last three days, and I am fired up. Excellent. Fired up for today's show. We are starting in Kansas. City. Chiefs undefeated after an overtime win over the Colts that saw Patrick Mahomes throw for 382 yards.
Starting point is 00:03:03 Three touchdowns. Most yards in the air since 2023. Chiefs almost had the game won twice when a forced fumble was ruled down by contact. Reps always give it to the Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes after the game. Super encouraging. I mean, first off, us not getting in Philo Rangs the first time. The defense is getting a stop right there in midfield. and then getting in fill the range and then not punching the touchdown. The defense, we have the big play in overtime where we think we stripped the ball and they end up being barely touched.
Starting point is 00:03:34 I was actually kind of glad because I didn't want to see Twitter's reaction if they would have called it to thumble. So we got to prove it the right way, get the stop there, and then go back out there and get a field goal. Last two weeks for Patrick, completion percentage way up, yards way up, deep passes way up, and pass a rating way up. How impressive was Patrick and this Chief's W? I don't want to, I want to answer the exact question, if I may. How impressive was the Chiefs win as a whole? Sure.
Starting point is 00:04:07 Not that impressive, which is why it's so great. Because, like, Patrick, which I'll get to in a moment, was singularly great. But the Chiefs, the D-line, which I was so happy about after their week one performance against that great offensive line in Denver. They couldn't get home with four. Daniel Jones never got sacked. They finally got some pressure late, made him throw it away, but they didn't, you know, they didn't play great.
Starting point is 00:04:32 Our last two, or two of our last three, I guess, first round picks, Josh Simmons and Mansour Delane didn't play. And, you know, Simmons is going to be out another week or two. Delane suited up but didn't play. He was kind of like the emergency fifth corner. Yeah. And you could see on defense that, okay, you know, Noel Williams is a really good young player, but he's growing.
Starting point is 00:04:55 Like, the Fulton made the pick and then got picked on. But then he got picked on and committed penalties. Like, it was not, we missed a field goal. It was not a great game. But luckily, he was spectacular. And this goes to, and obviously K-9 Kenneth Walker, was almost equally spectacular. And this goes to my confidence level in the Chiefs. Every year is at its absolute apex
Starting point is 00:05:29 if the thing we're most concerned about is their vertical passing game. Because if the thing we're most concerned about is something that 15 can have direct control over, then I think they're going to figure it all out. And we have seen Brewett took Patrick a dozen passes to shake off the reconstructed knee. And since that we can show you the numbers,
Starting point is 00:05:53 since those dozen passes, he's been as good as any quarterback in the league. Since starting 2 of 12. So that's including the second half of that. Yes, that is everything after the first 12 passes of the season. A 120 rating, five touchdowns, one pick. Last night, a drop by Kelsey and Xavier Worthy, left another 50 yards and maybe another touchdown on the field.
Starting point is 00:06:18 And I got to tell you, KW, as excited as I am for today's show, I might be more excited for tomorrow's. Because something I've been waiting, gosh, 11 months for, I think is coming. For tomorrow? I think I know what it is. I won't say. Because we have a Tuesday staple on this show called Bruce Ballot. Oh. And for a dozen ballots in a row.
Starting point is 00:06:47 That's interesting. Patrick Mahomes has been absent. And that's fair. The last time he was on, it was week eight last year. And that's been fair. But I feel like tomorrow, I don't want to, I don't want to, you know, count my chickens. I've been thinking about it. We'll be returning to Bruce's ballot for the first time.
Starting point is 00:07:11 And so I'm thrilled. And I'm sure we're going to talk a little bit about Kenneth Walker, but that Patrick was the story last night. His return was the story in week one, but he was not the reason they won in week one. He was the reason they won last night. Yeah, I agree with your assessment. I was stunned by the defense because they had looked so good in week one. That's how, what they looked like yesterday is how I expected them to look in week one and really kind of early in the season until they improved. But I think it was an aberration because of how well they did play in week one. We'll see what it is.
Starting point is 00:07:47 You think yesterday was an aberration or week one was an aberration? I think the defense, they may settle somewhere in the middle. But they were spectacular in week one, not that good yesterday. So even if they settle in the middle and start improving from there, they'll be good. And they, like you said, Delane was out. So Patrick was what I've been wanting to see for the last three years. it was the return of the light show. That was early.
Starting point is 00:08:18 That was what led me to tell Sports Illustrated. He's the best of all time. He was phenomenal. George. Yeah, I mean, it was excellent. And look, Travis Kelsey, you talk about turning back the clock. I don't know if this can continue. He looked more like 26 yesterday than 36.
Starting point is 00:08:39 Like, he was great. And there's no doubt, Nick, that Kenneth Walker's presence, Obviously, Mahomes is just great. Both of them are individually great. But Walker, yes, his run game just opens everything up, and now the defense is always guessing. We obviously knew once Indianapolis went for that field goal, which it's hard to blame.
Starting point is 00:09:01 I guess you can tell yourself, let's trust our defense. But everybody kind of felt, okay, Mahomes is going to get this, especially when all you need is a field goal. Did you want them to go for it, though? I mean, it was fourth and eight. they would have been second guess had they missed it because obviously a tie is better than a loss. But yeah, I probably, all things considered,
Starting point is 00:09:22 I think you probably just got to go for it. And I mean... Fourth and eight is tough. I mean, the fact that it was, I think it was a fourth, literally fourth and five. Yeah. They go for it.
Starting point is 00:09:34 I think eight, I just think fourth and eight is tough. And I think the fact that they could, it wasn't the same situation where there would have been no chance of them getting the ball back because they had timeouts. And like I I wasn't, I don't think Stuyken deserves to be killed
Starting point is 00:09:50 for going for it. No, but it's obviously going to lose. Yeah. You want to. But there was obviously like, like, okay, smart play but you're going to lose now. That's that. No, I mean, we obviously,
Starting point is 00:10:01 Mahomes gets that done. So, yeah, I, look, it's scary for the rest of the AFC for sure and probably the whole league the way Mahomes looked. And Nick, quickly, do you, I mean, the way they looked yesterday, they don't need an extra receiver. I mean, Tyquine Thornton kind of gave them what you expect from Xavier Worthy. Rishie was good.
Starting point is 00:10:26 Obviously, Kelsey was, I don't know. I just do worry. I think the Colts might have given the injuries the worst secondary right now, one of them. Chavarius was out, saw Scott hurt. We saw Zave look like prime Tyreek in one game against them. That's true. That's my concern there. Do you have more banners?
Starting point is 00:10:45 Maybe. Well, let's... Are we moving on to the next topic? Or do you can see something about the Chiefs? No, I, Brew and I are in agreement in a lot of stuff. Okay. I just... I just...
Starting point is 00:10:55 I just... Real quick on Kelsey and Kenneth Walker, and then we can move on. Your Kelsey Point, here's his... For a guy that KW... Disrespectfully, I may add. Put on washed watch. No, that's not... Hold on. Put KW.
Starting point is 00:11:11 There he is in tight-in ranks. go ahead. Okay, first of all, the one graphic I had in the chamber was Travis Kelsey leads the league in yards after captain. Well, he's also the all-time leader. Kelsey, Bijan, and JSN, which is just wild. And JSN's had some big runs. Yeah.
Starting point is 00:11:29 So this is a wild step. That being said, I am not disrespectfully putting him on washed watch, but when you hit a certain age, it just triggers over that. So I just want to make sure I understand. So putting someone on wash watch is not inherently disrespectful. It just automatically happens. It's like getting that retirement magazine. All right, got it.
Starting point is 00:11:48 It's good to know. Yeah, which just happens. Which comes to my house. The fact that he just passed Marshall Falk for the all-time record for yards after catch is unbelievable. And then there's Kenneth Walker. He looks amazing. The first two games show me most total yards in the first two games of a season this century. Eight shy of the record.
Starting point is 00:12:11 That's bananas, which is, and I, listen, I am, I don't feel like I'm wrong a lot, but when I am wrong, I am loudly wrong, and I hear about it, and that's fair. It has been, I'll call it, delightful for me this morning and this afternoon, seeing some of my media colleagues, some of my brethren, find religion on, you know what? Having this running back sure might open some things up for Patrick Mahomes. You know what? Maybe the downfall of Mahomes, the player, was overstated
Starting point is 00:12:48 and it was going from the league's least potent rushing attack to right now the league's most potent rushing attack will make things easier on the quarterback, which is why all year, while everyone was going crazy over Miles Garrett and Jalen Watt. I got yelled out for saying he was a lot. a bigger acquisition than Jalen Waddle and DJ Moore and all these fancy fun pieces. I told you guys, he's going to be the biggest acquisition of the year.
Starting point is 00:13:16 And thus far, it is not even a debate. He's leading the league and rushing by almost 80 yards. Almost 80 yards. And yesterday his biggest play was a reception. The third down play in overtime. And Mahomes went to him deep. It didn't complete. So he's a receiver better than people expected.
Starting point is 00:13:35 Chiefs headed to Miami next week. Should keep rolling. Head to Dallas. Tale of two quarterbacks. First, the bad news. Jaden Daniels leaves the game with a dislocated elbow. More on that in a second when the game picked up. We finally saw the offense that we expected from Dallas 37 points for touchdowns for DAC as he passed Tony Romo for most in Cowboys history.
Starting point is 00:13:59 And it wouldn't be a wind brew without some sort of opaque Jerry Jones quote after the game. Take a listen. Nothing more dangerous than an old man with money. You don't hear that's my quote of the day. Okay. Brew, what grade are you giving the Cowboys? Well, first of all, I hope that quote means they're going out to get Max Crosby. Yeah, I think so.
Starting point is 00:14:29 Now, maybe the Raiders might want to keep him. Right. Max Crosse might not be available, boys. Yeah, they might keep him. Look, good win. wasn't the greatest performance. Defensively, they still looked very poor. They faced a team, half the game,
Starting point is 00:14:50 they faced a backup quarterback, Marcus Marietta, and they still gave up more first downs and gave up more total yards, including 182 on the ground. They gave up more yards and first downs than they got, and they scored. 37 points. So it wasn't the greatest performance.
Starting point is 00:15:12 However, after that horrible display in week one where they lost to the Giants, you will certainly take it. And I do want to congratulate Dak Prescott for, you know, the Cowboys, I mean, Roger Stalbock, who is their best all-time quarterback. But Stalbock, Aikman, Tony Romo. Now, Dak has more touchdowns than all of them. through four, 279 yards. He was great. He was great.
Starting point is 00:15:42 The offense got going. And so my grade for the team was a B for the offense is back. And Bravo for Dak. Bravo. The boys are back now. For 10 stands down.
Starting point is 00:16:04 For Dak. Back on track. The offense. The boy. On attack. Back on track. Move over Romo. This is a press got promo for the new TD King.
Starting point is 00:16:15 Anime just want to sing, hey, the boys are back now. Back on track. The boys are back now. Fellas, this feels like a B game. Wow. They write the topic worthy song every show. I mean, it's really unbelievable. They don't even need a drum.
Starting point is 00:16:39 They don't need instruments. They just get me groove. Every time it's... Even wide and gray, it was a bee. Listen, so I echo all of that. Can I go to the other team for a minute? Because the story is... The more resonant story in this game, sadly, is Jaden Daniels.
Starting point is 00:16:57 And we're not going to show any of the, like, gruesome replay angles. But I do want to show how he got hurt. And then we're going to show you how he has gotten hurt the three times he has hurt this arm. because it's going to raise, I think, a very fair question that if I'm a commander's fan, I'm terrified about, which is, is he too fragile? I know nobody, I am not, so that is not a brutal play. It's a brutal injury, but it was a very typical play.
Starting point is 00:17:37 And the hit, it wasn't a hit where he got hurt. No, it was, it was initially I thought it was. He just braced his phone. It was him bracing his fall. So a year ago, against Seattle, when this first happened, Dust, if we can, so, yeah, was it, okay, so we don't have it. All right, I thought we had them all. My apologies.
Starting point is 00:17:56 What you'll, at some point in today's show, we have them all. It's all just regular stuff, man. It is him bracing his fall against Seattle. It's him chasing down an interception when he came back and just getting shoved. He didn't get like, you know, what I, the clocked. He got shoved and fell on it. And now this, I don't think you can play pro football and avoid that type of contact.
Starting point is 00:18:23 That wasn't contact. I mean, yeah. That's the thing. I mean, he could have done that tripping on in the street. Yeah. And so it's just like this is the, this is third year. After your third year as a star quarterback is when a team pays you. is when, you know what I think?
Starting point is 00:18:41 That's the, we, Drake May is going to get paid this off season. No matter how this year goes, he's going to get paid. Caleb, assuming there's no leg amputation coming, Caleb is going to get paid this off season. I don't, at this point, I think it would be irresponsible. Oh, really? Yeah, you can't. I mean, I don't think he plays again this year.
Starting point is 00:19:05 Well, I was going to say. He's going to have elbow surgery. You can't, if the elbow, if that keeps happening, then you have to have it surgically repaired. He should have elbow surgery. If I'm the commanders and if I'm Jaden Daniels, by the way, and his handlers, get it right, have a surgery to get it right.
Starting point is 00:19:22 Because as you say, he was tripped by his guard, left guard, but he just was bracing himself on a fall. And he dislocated his elbow. So last year he only missed, what, four games with the injury. We missed seven with that one. Seven, okay. If he has to miss the whole season. Unless there was a combo pattern.
Starting point is 00:19:42 He missed four. He came back. He started again. And then missed three. Yeah. So he missed seven total. But the point is get him, get that elbow as sturdy as you can. The one thing I, you didn't even say it this time, but I know you have felt like his frame is just he's thin.
Starting point is 00:19:59 These aren't related to him being thin. You don't think so, bro? No, I think it's just. You don't think that if he had more? Like I, if you fall as thin as you are. You break your, have you ever broken or dislocated your elbow? He is the only person that was in a cap. I know you've been thrown.
Starting point is 00:20:16 You've been in fights, man. Listen, I guess what I'm saying is I do think if I fall and if Greg Jennings falls, I am more likely to suffer a significant injury. Let's get you also a grandfather. Well, yes, I understand. Happy birthday, by the way, Greg Jennings. I don't know. I just feel, again, I'm not a doctor, but it just maybe it's just bad luck.
Starting point is 00:20:38 Like if he were getting, if it was hits and he was getting hurt, I just think he just, he is fragile. But he's electric. Like that was the only offense they have. That's the thing. And I don't know how long that could last. But first of all, with his legs, he was just eating the cowboys up. We know he's a great past. He is electric.
Starting point is 00:20:57 His stats don't really tell the story, at least his passing stats. He is electric, but there's major concern. You, yeah. Meanwhile, the commanders might be done. They're 0.2. you got a 16% chance of making the playoffs. Well, nobody's surprised by that. I thought they were going to last longer than two games.
Starting point is 00:21:14 If he's out, then they're definitely done. Even if he's out. I mean, I did expect them to start O-N-2. They started Eagles Cowboys. They were big underdogs in both games. I guess wasn't ready to take. We knew they weren't going to be. Yeah, I mean, and by the way, Dan Quinn, I was like, you know.
Starting point is 00:21:30 Curtains. Well, they've allowed seven touch. Dan Quinn and Todd Bowles are on a chat together like a boy. Don't worry. You play the Seahawks next. I'm glad Baker guy. his money. Oh, man.
Starting point is 00:21:39 They got to be. Meanwhile in Foxborough, Aaron Rogers took a break from podcast and put up three points against the Patriots defense, which also served as a good portion of the Patriots offense, running back a fumble for a score.
Starting point is 00:21:52 Drake completed 14 passes, 15, if you count the buttery lobster roll, he threw up to the Steelers, but learned today that it may have been tipped, which makes me feel much better. It has to be tipped because I started as a, Watery lobster roll.
Starting point is 00:22:10 Here's Mike Vrable on the offense. What's your concern level with Drake May and the offense right now? Are you worried he's maybe pressing a little too much? No, just trying to win the game, Ben. You're not going to ruin my Sunday, but I'll come back to you tomorrow. Thanks, bud. Mike, related to that, it looked like. Me neither.
Starting point is 00:22:29 You're not going to ruin it either. All right, so he doesn't want to talk about the offense. How should Patriots fans feel after this win, bro? You congratulated me upstairs, which I appreciate. Yeah, no, look. I've been in a little bit of a funky spot. A T. Okay.
Starting point is 00:22:47 You will not get me again. Since. Thank you, Chris. One in one, not bad. Not a lot of style points, but I felt solidly okay about it. I need to, I'm a little spoiled. I think that's my problem, bro. What do you mean?
Starting point is 00:23:24 When in advance, maybe? That's what I need to hear. Because I want the style. I want the flash. I want the sexiness of the silver medalist and the MVP. And I'm just getting, I'm just getting meat in potatoes. I'm not even getting meat and potatoes. Here's how I would describe it, bro.
Starting point is 00:23:41 Because after the back-to-back losses to the Seahawks, I'm just starving. I'm starving for a win. It's like where you're on an airplane. And you're like, is there a food on this flight or not? I'm not quite sure. and then they bring you back that little snack box. Oh, yeah. And you open up the snack box, and you're like, oh, a Mandarin and a thing of saltines
Starting point is 00:24:05 and some weird crackers. I've never seen these for sale in a store in my life. And you kind of just eat it, and you're like, well, okay, better than the alternative of nothing, I guess. But certainly it's not the delicious meal that I would prefer that was prepared for me. That's how I'm feeling. How do you think I should feel? Well, like, I think you feel right because this is a team that beat you last year.
Starting point is 00:24:30 And you did, you went to the Super Bowl last year. They beat you. Oh, they're one of those playoffs teams. You come back and beat them by 17 points. So I'll give you that. The defense obviously, I think their offense is horrible, but the defense, you know, held them to three points. Drake, he hasn't hit 80 as far as passer rating in his last four games. Now, again, I know these are good, but this isn't very good team that they just be.
Starting point is 00:24:54 yesterday. And he looks like, I don't, I think he might be lacking confidence. Maybe that playoff run messed with his confidence. He doesn't look the same. Yeah. And I'm not talking about from an arm strength perspective. I'm just talking about from an assuredness of himself, a little happy feet going on. Like, none of it looks like the player that was just crushing it.
Starting point is 00:25:18 And the numbers brew, I didn't mean to interrupt, but the numbers back it up. like Drake last year and since then. I mean, that right-hand column KW, I understand, to your guys' credit, it's a four-and-two record in those six games. But those are dreadful numbers, and it's now six games. Oh, yeah, I don't. Well, sure. I'm not doing regular season playoff.
Starting point is 00:25:42 Okay, sure. I'm not computing. Okay. You just look at the, in my brain, I'm not computing. Okay, that's fine. Then I'll do just this year. 63 pass. Hold on.
Starting point is 00:25:50 Let's go to just this year. like four and two. This is what I'm more focused on. So that is, to me, legitimately concerning. I agree. And it also, it feels to me
Starting point is 00:26:10 watching you guys through two weeks, and this is probably why it is so unsatisfying, even though this year was so satisfying. And I'm not comparing the players. But this Patriot team reminds me a lot right now of Mac Jones rookie year Patriots. Like you're probably the seventh or eighth
Starting point is 00:26:27 best team in the conference. Maybe you'll sneak in. You're going to win, you know what I mean, with defense and coaching and you know what I mean? And if you get a couple good plays from the quarterback, that's not who they're supposed to be, but through two weeks, it's who they have been, which is why, given those
Starting point is 00:26:44 numbers, KW, I've got it. And now that I know this isn't insulting, I'm so happy. Oh, my. Oh my. I just it's washed watch. It's KW put Travis Kelsey on washed watch. He's off it because he's been great.
Starting point is 00:27:03 Is Drake May not on what you just said he's definitely getting paid? There we go. Is he? Yeah I'm just I'm just asking you. Chris. Chris stay there. That was how Chris what to do. He's certainly not what.
Starting point is 00:27:14 What do you mean? He can be I don't even know what rent a car. He's certainly not what. You know what? Brew. KW's right. I'm not saying he's wall. I'm just keeping my eye on it.
Starting point is 00:27:25 You keep your eye on what you want. I'm going to keep my eye on it. What you said about Mack Jones is interesting because obviously Mac never hit the levels Drake did last year. But Mac was a pro bowler. I remember being on the show
Starting point is 00:27:41 as just a guest, I think, at that point. And I was saying he beat out Cam Newton. Remember that? So I was like, man, the mental toughness you would need as a rookie to beat out a legend like Cam Newton was impressive and obviously it just went completely south. I don't see that for Drake.
Starting point is 00:28:00 No. But I do think you got to watch and just see. The most fair statement, hyperbole aside, you can say the defense, you can say whatever, you can say no preseason, whatever it is. I think everyone across the sports world would agree. He certainly hasn't taken a step forward. He's taking a step backward. He's definitively taking a step backwards.
Starting point is 00:28:21 It might be temporary. But he's definitely Well, I don't know. He finally beat this playoff team that you guys keep talking about. Chris, would you play us off, please? Chris, thank you very much. A little sadder.
Starting point is 00:28:30 Like, not super happy, but not super sad. Kind of like one in one for the pictures. Oh, I should watch. Go ahead. Goodness. There we go. After a Ravenslaw. Oh.
Starting point is 00:28:42 Retiring the road temporarily. I got something to say about the Ravens. Podcast is flying up the podcast charts and original content on YouTube from Gianniere team. It's just excellent. Head to Baltimore where the Saints came marching back. Fifteen straight points in the fourth brew. Controversial touchdown by Tyler took late.
Starting point is 00:29:12 Gapped off by a Lamar interception to end it. Here's Lamar. Face mask getting ripped backwards. He did. I know you can't call that. Here's Lamar in the pick and squandering the lead. Take a listen. We were just trying to make some things.
Starting point is 00:29:27 happen. You know, our guys were just, it was the same group of guys out there. You know, I feel like it was a little fatigue. And then how our players, it was a time of thing. Things just don't go out of way sometimes at the wrong times. That's what I believe, you know, certain calls happening, you know, we get the momentum going, get brought back, you know, penities here and there. Anything can go down, you know, that's what I believe we haven't been finishing. Okay. Brew, are you concerned about your Ravens? One in one now. Are you Concerned? Concerned.
Starting point is 00:29:59 Wilde's, I am not concerned. I am not worried, nor am I fretful. They were without the Ravens, two of their three best receivers, if not their best two receivers. Sure. In Zay Flowers in Jacoby Lane. Then the left tackle Ronnie Stanley goes out, so it was a lot to overcome. All right? That is not.
Starting point is 00:30:25 Now, now, now. Now, there were things, Wilds, that made me raise an eyebrow. Oh. Once again, they blew a double-digitly. And can't blame hardball this time. No. Yeah, 15th times is 2019, right? Once again, this is baffling.
Starting point is 00:30:46 They forgot about Derek Henry. He carried the ball five times in the second half after 11 in the first half. And that third and one, sure, I'd be. singing a different tune if it was a completion that bomb. But you got Derek Henry there. Just get the first down. And you go for it. You go deep on third and one. I assume you're going
Starting point is 00:31:06 for it. Well, that was my problem. Deep shot's fine if you're like it's more down territory. But then to not go for it. And you were in your own territory, I believe. So you still, I would have ran him on third and one. But anyway, then the defensive backfield really
Starting point is 00:31:22 had some problem. They, Chris Olavé just cooked them all night. And Jawan, John They made him look like gronk. But this is a new regime, new coaching staff. I'm going to give them time to clean it up. So no, Wilds. I am not concerned. Seriously.
Starting point is 00:31:44 I'm not concerned. It was a bad game, not a bad sign. That's what it was. It was a bad game. I was waiting. You know what you need that. You got a level set sometime. Yeah, exactly.
Starting point is 00:31:57 That's good. It would have been. If he would have done all that and then done, I'm terrified. Okay, that's good. Coach, good to see you. A little bit of a palate cleanser there. That was great. Thank you.
Starting point is 00:32:06 They'll be all right. They'll be all right. The attention to detail, the attention to detail that was missing last year, right? That was going to be the difference in these close games. We weren't going to see any fourth quarter collapses. We had a new defensive coordinator, the head coach, who's the defensive coordinator. So that wasn't going to lead to any fourth quarter collapses. You've got a situation where, you're a new defensive coordinator.
Starting point is 00:32:28 where you've got a significant lead going into the fourth quarter, which is ideal for this office, right? Was it eight? Eight, 17 to nine. This one, would you agree, Coach? I'm not making an excuse for him. But this felt different. A lot of times in the past, they're blowing a team out.
Starting point is 00:32:47 They look great. Then they just, for some reason, fall apart. This one, they only led by eight. They didn't really look great throughout the game. I mean, they had control of it, but I don't think they looked great throughout the game. This just, it's bad, but it felt a little different to me than the past. But from a complimentary football standpoint, you're in a great situation because you have the lead, right?
Starting point is 00:33:08 So now everything is open to you. It's not like you're chasing points. You can run Derek Henry. You can set up play action off of Derek Henry. It's not the type of situation where you've got to drop back. You've got it. The whole world knows you're passing. You've got everything in front of you and you control it.
Starting point is 00:33:26 And still, we've seen this movie before. It's just a different producer and a different director, but it's the same end result, which I imagine is frustrating for everybody involved. But all the talk about the details and the things that were missing before, and even when you hear Lamar talk about the last interception, he's like, they made a play?
Starting point is 00:33:52 They didn't make a play. He threw it up. I mean, he threw it up to nobody's 20 seconds. He said it wasn't a misconduct. communicate. It looked like it. Well, Bateman, I can't tell if Bateman's supposed to be breaking out to the corner and he stopped running. He said, Lamar said no. Bateman said no.
Starting point is 00:34:07 Lamar did say that Bateman was tired, which I thought was maybe not the best thing to say. And then he said that the defense made a play. But what play did he make here? I'd say the biggest problem, the starting problem on this is that the right guard, their first round draft pick, gets beat. So Lamar is under a little bit of pressure. But you still can throw it away. and lived to fight another way. What play was made by the defense?
Starting point is 00:34:30 No, this was a terrible pass. There's no play made. And so, and this is, again, I'm just going to go to this. He threw it in a team meeting coach. I don't know, single covered, double coverage, cloud coverage, dime coverage. That was not a team. But he threw it. I mean, threw it right.
Starting point is 00:34:47 He threw it right to the safety. When you played touch football with your friends and you punt it on Fort Don, you threw it. That's what it basically would. And nobody, nobody hates a game ending interception more than me. I don't actually care about it. Because it was over, it was over. So that's what I, so it, the down seven with 20 seconds left at your 40, you've got to take some chances.
Starting point is 00:35:15 You know what I mean? So it's, I'm not picking on Drake. It's so different. Oh, yeah. Yeah. This isn't even that. It didn't feel like, it felt like the game ended on the. And so again, he could, they could have pulled it out of the five.
Starting point is 00:35:26 and you would have liked to have more chances. But that to me, to me, honestly... You guys are saying the game's over with 20 seconds? No, I'm not saying what I'm just saying. What I'm saying is they have to score a touchdown. They're out of timeouts. Got it. They have 20 seconds left.
Starting point is 00:35:41 So he's got to try to make plays. He can't... I thought Josh's play against the Texans that was dropped was markedly, to me, worse than that. You know what I mean? Even though it got dropped. In fairness to him, it's not like he's the two-time MVP. No, well, so that's...
Starting point is 00:35:55 You know what I mean? You shouldn't expect that for me. Let me ask, can I ask coach quickly? It's not like Jalen Hertz won the game for. As you said, you've seen this under, now again, it's one game, but you've seen two regimes kind of ignore Derek Henry at times. Do you think, I don't think Lamar is putting pressure on them to throw the ball, but do you think they for some reason are deferring or they feel like because of his talent,
Starting point is 00:36:21 less throw the ball rather than give it to our workhorse. and run out the clock and just eat up these yards. I don't know what the thinking is because it wouldn't ever cross my mind. It wouldn't be like something. I'm like, huh. I've got Derek Henry. Let me see if I can throw my way out of this. Also, final thought, Saints.
Starting point is 00:36:43 Sneaky good. Maybe. You know, it might not be a two-point conversion away from being two-and-oh, maybe. Sneaky good. A head to Tennessee backstory here. Jeffrey Simmons said that the Titans wanted to make Jalen Hertz play like a quarterback. And well, it seemed like a good strategy at first. Hertz through two picks.
Starting point is 00:36:59 One went back 90 yards the other way. And the Titans were about to win before Jalen Hertz. Let a game winning drive finding Darius Cooper, in the back of the end zone, and nine seconds left. So here's Jalen Hertz with Jeffrey Simmons on the field, then at the podium. Take a listen. What allows you to stay so poised in those situations? You started, you had to finish.
Starting point is 00:37:20 Much respect to you, though. You all right, no. Is that a comment? that you heard, that matter to you, and how do you think you responded? I heard it. And did it matter to you? I heard it. And how do you think you responded?
Starting point is 00:37:35 Happy we won. What do you make of Jalen Hertz's performance, Nick? Very quickly. I respect a lot Simmons making sure he went up to him and found him. Like that's a best player on the Titans. I don't know even if he, I don't know if Jeffrey Simmons regrets his comments, feels like they were misconstrued. He said he didn't mean it.
Starting point is 00:37:54 Right, that way, whatever. whatever it is, he went over and found Jalen, and Jeffrey knew Jalen was, you know, being recorded was on camera, knew that could be, so I thought that was a cool moment from the Titans best player. Here's the thing. Jeffrey Simmons was absolutely right, and Jalen Hertz was proving him right
Starting point is 00:38:13 until, of course, the end when Jalen Hertz went and won the game. Like, it was such a unique thing. Like, for 58 minutes, like when you show you the numbers, it felt to me watching the game, like the Eagles, I don't want to say Jeffrey Simmons baited them, but it felt like they were more pass happy and that they were playing the exact type of game
Starting point is 00:38:36 the Titans wanted them to play like that, and maybe that's coincidental, but that it had gone exactly like the Simmons and the Titans would want, and then Jalen got one more try and was brilliant. Yeah. And, you know, that is, I'm not saying that's like a perfect microcosm for his career.
Starting point is 00:38:54 But it's pretty good. Pressure's on. I got to make plays. And so like he, Jalen hurts as he has far more often than he is given credit for, sometimes by me, got the last laugh. Like, and after he, Jalen was playing really the pick, the pick at the goal line and the other pick in the fourth quarter were really bad to play. I thought the other pick was just an amazing Titans play. No.
Starting point is 00:39:19 Oh, it was a horrible underthrow. Oh, I thought it was. No, I thought, no. I thought. No, I thought. I didn't think it was, I mean, I thought it was a really bad underthrow coach, but then Jalen went and made them pay. Yeah, this, it was an up and down day for him throughout most of the day,
Starting point is 00:39:35 and Sequin got hurt relatively early. So that took away, you know, quite a bit of it. And, and I'm not huge on, on blaming the elements, but it was 95 degrees that felt like a hundred five. They said it was like 150. On the turn. Yeah, it felt, I mean, that's, I don't know what that's. insane. No, I think it's like literally like a theater on fire.
Starting point is 00:39:57 It was a ridiculous heat index where they're putting water on clean. So that made it challenging throughout the day. The pick in the end zone was rough to have it returned, you know, for a touchdown. That makes it even rougher. But the fact that with no timeouts left, they drive 65 yards and are able to score a touchdown in, as we talk about what you look for from a quarterback and, and, you know, Jalen gets plenty of criticism, you want. the quarterback in those moments to be able to do what he was able to do, regardless of whatever happened the rest of the game. And you're always talking to players about, hey, move on to the next play. You've got to be able to forget about what happened before. And that's a really good example of a player doing that, where, look, the game didn't go the way he wanted for a lot of the game, but then in the most critical moments,
Starting point is 00:40:47 he was able to forget about the past mistakes, not let that trail into the last drive, and find a way to win the game. you've got to give him a lot of credit for being able to do that. Yeah, he just is, I'm going to sound like a broken record. I'm always saying he's a winner. Now, it's not going to win it every time, but when the club, when it's, you need a play, it might be ugly, the game might be ugly, his numbers won't look great,
Starting point is 00:41:11 but when you need a play, more often than not, he's going to deliver. And they had throughout that, now the Titans aren't a good team, but they had no run game. They did try to run. They ran 32 times. for like two less than three yards of carry. So it was all on his shoulders. And I think he's playing very well without A.J. Brown. I know he had the two picks yesterday.
Starting point is 00:41:36 But I mean... How about Drake, then? Drake. No. In Toronto, every arrival is a statement. And nothing says it better than this. Cadillac Optic was the number one selling luxury EV in Canada for 2025. Find your rhythm across a seamless 33-inch display and an immersive.

Starting point is 00:42:12 We had high hopes for the Chargers in Mike McDaniel. Got a mouse in your pocket? And now they've lost back-to-back games to the Cardinals and the Raiders. 51 teams have started O&2. only eight have made the playoffs, a little less than 16% are the Chargers already done. Yes, and I demand apologies.
Starting point is 00:42:35 It's not just Danny Parkins and his absurd Justin Herbert sycophancy that I'm talking about. I check, we have on the wall in the office, everyone's playoff and Super Bowl picks. And I saw a little Chargers logo under your name, a Chargers logo under your name, A Chargers logo under Danny's name and a Chargers logo in the Super Bowl box
Starting point is 00:42:59 under this guy's name. And now we're two weeks in, and listen, Herbert's been awful. There's no getting around it. He got unlucky on that interception. They also had six fumbles yesterday and recovered five of them. He had three fumbles.
Starting point is 00:43:15 Like, the luck cuts both ways. I want to show you one Justin Herbert thing. We'll talk about the team, and then we'll stop talking. Can we go to the blind reveal, please? One of these people is Justin Herbert. These are these season stats. Do we agree that those two players are having roughly the equivalent season?
Starting point is 00:43:34 Well, I got to see the opponents. I really want to. It's season. Well, one of the opponents is the Cardinals and the Raiders. Okay. The other quarterback, KW, is one of the two takes you have that you feel like you know for certain about the NFL this season. Oh, that person is not. not good at football anymore.
Starting point is 00:43:53 Reveal it, please. Oh, wow. That's Herbert and Rogers. Wow. And we're going to talk about Rogers later in the show about how he's just, he's not a washed watch. He's on mid-season retirement watch. Yep.
Starting point is 00:44:06 And everyone now coach is just finding religion on, yeah, the roster's not great. All offseason, five years running, the roster's been primed to take over the division. And all of a sudden, Mike McDaniel, when he can't just. press the Tyree Kill button. Maybe he's not Bill Walsh. Who could have seen that one coming? And I just, it's amazing to me that they've lost back-to-back games 26 to 14 to two teams that were in the deep sleepers.
Starting point is 00:44:36 Yeah. Yeah. But they weren't actually deep sleepers. And been thoroughly outplayed in both games. And so, and their next seven games are by some metrics, the toughest seven games in the history of the league. So yeah, their season's already over, coach. Go rep for your guy, Harbaugh, all you want.
Starting point is 00:44:52 Their season is over, and he's not doing a great job so far this year. What's the line from Animal House over? Was it over in the Germans bottom of Harvard? Heck no. And it ain't over now. Look, it's one of these things where if you want to look at the first two games as a complete season, then you can look at the game as, or two games as a complete season. But it's not.
Starting point is 00:45:13 And have they played well? No. Has Jim Harbaugh ever started O.N. 2 as head coach at any level? No, this is new territory for him. So we're going to get to see how he responds. But the idea that this is done after two games, that's not the case. It was as bad as you could get yesterday. They put the ball in the around six times.
Starting point is 00:45:32 Now, they only fumbled six times, fumbled six times. They only lost one. They were penalized eight times. They were sacked three times. So there was a lot of bad football in that. But it's not the type of thing that's insurmountable. And look, there was so much love for Justin Herbert. throughout the whole off season.
Starting point is 00:45:53 Maybe we need to go a different direction. Maybe we need to pull back on the love and throw a little bit more tough love. But it was a summer of love for Justin. It was an absolute summer of love for him. But need to pull back from this. Houston has started 0 and 2 last year. Three teams they started in the playoffs.
Starting point is 00:46:16 And I know the statistics that show probability of making the playoffs aren't going. great, but I would not count out, Jim, and I would not count out this team, and it'll probably start this week. Well, look, I'm with you coaching that I hesitate to write off a team that's talented, got a talented quarterback, and is well coached at O and 2, but this is the closest I'll ever come to do it. Like, when I look at how well the chiefs are playing, and then the Denver, had a nice bounce back win yesterday against Jacksonville.
Starting point is 00:46:55 And then I look at the Chargers. I hate to keep bringing up the schedule. It's monstrous. Their next seven games, I mean, they could actually be a good team and lose. Like, all those seven teams they play next are good, unless Houston just is not a good team. But outside of that, like, that is a monster strength.
Starting point is 00:47:17 It doesn't matter what their schedule is. The Cardinals and Raiders. Kill them. That's, and that's... You're talking on the ASEW West teams. The one team you didn't mention is the Raiders. I have the hottest take of the day. The Raiders are better than the Chargers.
Starting point is 00:47:31 That's the hottest take of the head. Oh, they're crazy, Nick. You're a hater. Really? The Chargers have no home field advantage. I told you guys that everyone's like, oh, their tackles are back. Yeah, but their guard center guard is bad.
Starting point is 00:47:45 Their wide receivers are not good. Herbert's confidence is shattered. The defense is. is old and ineffective without Jesse Minter. Why is Herbert's confident? Like, it looks to me like he doesn't fit what McDaniels wants to do. I don't, that part, listen, I can't X's and O's like. People are like, oh, they're changing his footwork and the shotgun.
Starting point is 00:48:07 I don't understand football on that level. There's other people that can explain that to you. What I know is Herbert used to at least just like grip it and rip it, cannon arm for a bunch of yards. And then, you know, not play his best in the best. biggest spots. Now he's like timid, not sure of himself. He's in year seven. The team's not good.
Starting point is 00:48:27 They're going to miss the playoffs. And I'm going to see in two hours Danny's going to tell us about how he's going to win an MVP one day. Do you see something to that coach, him not, the McDaniel system maybe? Look, a lot of guys, when they transition, there's growing pains with it. Some guys
Starting point is 00:48:42 adjust to it quicker. Some guys don't. But to count someone out after two games into the season, remember the Colts, how good the Colts were through, what, 10 games? And everybody was talking about going to the Super Bowl and things changed dramatically. Things will change dramatically
Starting point is 00:48:58 from where we are 1-8th through the season versus where we are midway. In general, I agree with you. This team, however, is finished. Mike McDaniel's second game as the Dolphins coach, two or through for 469 yards and had six touchdowns. Part of the Beast is the must-see adventure of the year.
Starting point is 00:49:19 It's just you and me, boy. One of the most extraordinary on-screen branch you'll ever see. I'll get you home. Brad Pitt, Art of the Beast. September 25th. Get tickets now. Live from New York,
Starting point is 00:49:32 the show's starting to believe in Bryce Young and the Panthers. Deep sleeper. Real talk. Actually made a play out. Not really deep sleeper. Somewhat sleeper. Not really? Light sleeper?
Starting point is 00:49:43 If they're actually good. I mean, no. Going into the year, they would have been, yeah, they were in the same category of the juniors. Light sleeper, trendy. Well, they won the original. I understand, but nobody believes. But they're not a deep sleep.
Starting point is 00:49:57 I don't know if we, I don't know if we, I've never said. Oh, yeah, I did. You picked them to win the division? Yeah. I picked them to win the division. Yeah. I picked them to win. You guys know what my deep sleep are the Atlanta Falcons who are about to be on straight prime time games.
Starting point is 00:50:06 They haven't had a red zone. They might get flexed out. They haven't had a snap in the red zone. I believe. Second hour of first. Scott Hanson doesn't even know where they are. Today, Chief's offense is back. How much better is this team going to get?
Starting point is 00:50:21 Meanwhile, the latest quote from Aaron Rogers. on his coaching staff. This is great. Surprise. Who could have seen that? Oh, my goodness. This is great. Right now, we're headed to Chicago,
Starting point is 00:50:34 where the Bears were befuddled by Brian Flores' defense before Caleb went down with an injury. Luckily, not as severe as it first looked. Here's Ben Johnson today with an update. It sounds like it's going to be a week-to-week deal for him. You know, I got to still talk with our trainer. We'll do that here. shortly and I'll have the lowdown from him, but it sounds like it's week to week, but we'll
Starting point is 00:51:01 likely miss some time. Yeah, but in the big picture, dodged a major bullet. Yeah, potentially, potentially, you know, what we'll see. He is, he's tough and he comes back from these types of things, I think better than the average human being. Okay, so here's the Bears this season. Week one, coach, they had 59 points. They followed it up with three. The 56. six-point drop is the second biggest of the Super Bowl era. Nick, your reaction to yesterday's game. And, you know, Ben Johnson's report still pretty vague, but it looks better than we initially thought.
Starting point is 00:51:39 Yeah, I mean, so I'll add to it. There's Ben Johnson. Tom Pellasaro reported for the Ringer in Netflix earlier today. Avoided any major injury to his hamstring. Test confirmed today. and the team is not yet ruling him out for Monday's game against the Eagles. So which I have to ask our group, are we going to talk about it or are we not going to talk about it? It's a grade one, isn't it?
Starting point is 00:52:04 Hamstring, there's no chance he's playing Monday night. Grade one's the lowest grade. Well, it's the highest, whatever, it's the highest grade. No, no, no, I'm saying it's not. Is it grade one? It's the best you can have. But it is grade one. Again, nobody has officially reported what grade it was.
Starting point is 00:52:21 Grade three is what happened to DAC. ripped off the bone need surgery. Grade two is historically out four to six weeks. Grade one is the best case scenario. Oh, I thought it was a reverse of that. Well, no, you thought that because of his reaction. So again, I'm asking, are we going to talk about it? KW?
Starting point is 00:52:37 Are we going to talk about it? I'm happy that he's day, that he's week to week. Okay. The NFL is better with Caleb Williams in it. Because I, of course. He did. I'm a Caleb Williams guy. He did scare me here because I thought this was an outright catastrophe.
Starting point is 00:52:51 I thought he was much. catastrophe. Danny almost passed out. It was, so here's what I'm going to say. Listen, I'll be the bad guy, I guess, even though I'm the Caleb Williams guy when Danny's not out here. I never, ever judge a player for how they react on the field in real time to an injury that turns out, like, whatever it is. There was a clip going around today of Grunk, one of the toughest guys ever in the league, getting hit once,
Starting point is 00:53:21 writhing around, rolling around on the ground for a minute, yelling, he missed one game. Like, it looked like he had blown out his knee. It was like a, you know, whatever. So in real time, I think there's a lot of adrenaline, exasperation. I think sometimes you're scared.
Starting point is 00:53:37 You know what I mean? Like, oh, my God, is my season over? All of that. So that part, I think, is unfair criticism. the writing the cart with the towel over your head and that and then that and then we find out hey might be able to play in seven days i put it in the same bucket as oddly a different number on overall pick some of the mendoza interview stuff which is like it's a unique part of i think an authentic personality i think Caleb's a very emotional guy Yeah. Oh. And I, you know, I think he is a very, very... It's like in college.
Starting point is 00:54:19 In college when he went up into his mom. And so I don't necessarily, like, I don't think he's being phony. I don't think that was like performative. Like I want them to think I'm more hurt than I am. But I do... It was stunning, I think. It was surprising to have that... Everything that happened after the injury and reaction
Starting point is 00:54:41 and then find out that, hey, in theory could play Monday and at this point would be surprised if he misses multiple games. Like that's... But I don't think there's any chance he plays Monday. I don't think... When you look, watch Ben Johnson talk, he said, you know, potentially, he kept
Starting point is 00:54:58 looking off the side. I don't know who he's looking to for information. But based off of what we saw and what we've heard, I'd be shocked for he plays in the next two to three weeks. Okay. Isn't some of that gamesmanship, too? Like, you want your opponent kind of...
Starting point is 00:55:14 The idea saying that he could potentially play, I can't imagine there's any chance he plays on Monday. Again, I'm not going to do. And we can get to the actual game. And I, Ben Johnson has reason to be, you know, obfuscate on the injury stuff as much as he can. Tom Pellasaro does not. But he might be getting it. Listen, maybe he's getting it wrong.
Starting point is 00:55:41 You know what I mean? like the, when he says the team isn't even ruling him out for next Monday's game and, you know, a massive sigh of relief in Chicago and calls it the best case scenario, that is, you know, I'm going to take that at relative face value. And so, and despite all that, and I know this is what you wanted to get to, KW. And then you, like, Ben Johnson lost the, Ben Johnson and Caleb before Caleb got hurt, had lost the battle of Brian Flores, 10. seven round after 10-7 round.
Starting point is 00:56:13 Yep. Brewer, your reaction to the actual game. I mean, look, I said I didn't expect Caleb to just dominate this defense, but I thought he would play well and I thought the Bears would win. And Flores just undressed Ben Johnson
Starting point is 00:56:28 and Caleb. And it shows as good as Caleb is, he still got a lot to learn. And Danny was showing us these stats about how great he was against the blitz. His blitzers are different. You know what I mean? And so yeah, Caleb really, I mean, their whole offense just struggled mightily.
Starting point is 00:56:45 I think we can put the bed to talk about the best offense ever. Right now, they don't have a better offense than the Panthers. Yeah, right. Are they even, I don't even know if they're in the top five. They're number four in scoring. The 59 carries you up. So the Vikings were phenomenal and they got Kyler, Kyler Murray coming back. They are now the Fandul favorites to win that division.
Starting point is 00:57:10 If Kyler can get. Because they have gotten no off. I mean, they scored nine points. They got against a bad defense. So if Kyler can give them anything, they're going to be tough. But it goes back to what we talked about going into week one. Week one is such an unknown. So any result that comes out of week one, you've got to put an asterisk next to it
Starting point is 00:57:29 because it could be just, look, you were anticipating something radically different than what you expected. You weren't prepared for it. The way training camp is now, the way people are treating the preseason now, the level of preparation from team to team that comes out and plays that first game is dramatically different, and everybody's tinkering with it all the time. So the idea that, and it was great, I mean, it was great TV for them to score 59 the first week. It was great for Danny, and then this is a nice reminder that things are actually a little bit tougher than you imagine in the NFL, you know, doing, performing at that level on a consistent basis.
Starting point is 00:58:08 You want to go KW? No, I hope that I hope that Ben Johnson. Yeah, this is right. I'm not saying, I think Ben Johnson accidentally disrespects people. I think saying... That's nicer than you need to be.
Starting point is 00:58:30 I don't know how accidental it is, buddy. Well, I'm just trying to be nice. Yeah. I think that Brian Flores' reaction post game. When Ben Johnson goes into like, man, everybody, Caleb is listening. Caleb heard about the 58
Starting point is 00:58:46 completion percentage. Man, you said you wanted to be the, have the highest scoring offense. And then going into this game, they're like, yeah, we expect to score every time. Not necessarily against the Vikings, but they're like, that's our mindset. Brian Flores is a
Starting point is 00:59:01 Super Bowl champion winning coach. This defense has been great. They were a good team last year with a patchwork quilt of quarterbacks. So they've won four straight games with four different starting quarterbacks first time ever. So I'm happy that defense
Starting point is 00:59:18 wins the day. And Ben Johnson sat there miserable on the sideline with just his scowl that his grand plan is not working. But it didn't just the day. It took their lunch money. It put him in a garbage barrel. It did everything you could possibly do to embarrass
Starting point is 00:59:34 him. After, after and I'm sure he was just emboldened by the 59 points, right? He talks so much in the preseason, and then you come out and have a performance like that. He's like, of course it's going to be like that week and week out. And it's not going to be. Not that easy. Dusty's telling me in my ear that Ben Johnson just told reporters he's not ruling Caleb out for Monday night.
Starting point is 00:59:53 Yeah, you know how I know that? Because Tom Pellasar told us four hours ago. But there's not an injury report, right? No, not yet. And like you say, it just behooves him to leave it out there hanging for your... It also, as long as you came. Why would you do that? I don't think you'd play.
Starting point is 01:00:07 Why would you? Why even put him out there? Why would you want to be the highest scoring offense ever? Hold on. Why would you play your quarterback if he's healthy enough to play? Because it's pro football and you're playing the Eagles. He's saying it's risky to put him out there. I mean, certainly nothing.
Starting point is 01:00:20 He might be healthy enough to play, but I'm not saying he doesn't look like he was healthy. I'd be shocking if he was healthy. Not yesterday. Listen, I, it's 100%. Hold on. I shouldn't say, hold on. I didn't mean to interrupt you. I just want to get my opinion on the record.
Starting point is 01:00:38 on this. The threshold for starting NFL quarterbacks to play games is not 100% health. All of the greats, all of the greats. It's like, oh, this guy played seven seasons in a row without missing a game. For 15 years, Peyton Manning played every game. You had a neck surgery, then started playing every game again. Brady got his knee blown out in the middle and then played every game on the back end of the front end. Like, you don't, starting quarterbacks play in this league. Not card it out, cart it off, towel over your head.
Starting point is 01:01:12 Immediate two games you've got to sit. You're carted off with the towel over your head. If you give a thumbs up to the fans, three games. You have to rest. You are not, I'll be okay in my life. And you can't be like, turns out I'm good to go. No.
Starting point is 01:01:28 If you put the towel over your head... You just think reputationalally he needs to sit. No, I, there's a disconnect between. I mean, what I watched and he's good to go on Monday. I don't know if you guys knew his mentor is Paul Pierce. No, he's got. I do.
Starting point is 01:01:48 If there's a risk, obviously, of the guy, he's not 100% healthy. I'm not a doctor. I mean, I'm a body language. He's not 100%. Even if he could play, he's not going to be, why risk it? Why risk be aggravated? Why are you giving it a week? Because you're on the cart.
Starting point is 01:02:03 That's why. Yeah. Well, but if he's on the cart and he. can play on Monday, then are we really re-agravating it? Is it like, oh my goodness. At this point, you have no idea if he hurt, not hurt. Where's the ice man who we need him? Iceman, what happened?
Starting point is 01:02:16 Iceman ain't trying to come out after that. Chiefs put up 33 points on the Colts. Colts put up 30 on the Chiefs. Malins is 18 yards shy of 400 yards through the air. Kenneth Walker continues to look dynamic. Here's Travis Kelsey, not washed, but watching. Guys were playing their tails off of the guys next to him, That's why I love this team right now.
Starting point is 01:02:40 We're in the zone right now where everybody's feeding off each other. And it's only making us better and it's making us play harder for each other. There's never a doubt we were going to get that win right there. 9-5 over there. It was never a doubt that we were going to get that win. We were just hoping that we would get it a little earlier than we did. Okay. Your reaction to the whole Chiefs Knight.
Starting point is 01:03:00 I mean, this is the type of game that the Chiefs, when they're the Chiefs, they win. Yeah. And Patrick Mahomes. career. They've been in 12 overtime games. They're 10 and 2. The two losses were a UFC championship games. One of them, they never got the ball. They've never lost a regular season overtime game.
Starting point is 01:03:18 They did not, listen, they did not play, neither game this year could you just give the overall like every major category in A. Like in week one, everything got an A except for the passing attack. You know what I mean? And that was
Starting point is 01:03:33 greatly, you know, lacking. This week, the The Patrick got an A. Kenneth Walker got an A. You could say the offense as a whole. I thought the offensive line held up really well. Got an A. And the defense was a mess a lot of the night.
Starting point is 01:03:49 Like they just kept, they just couldn't. It's like, hey, guess what? That little pass to the flat to running back or the tight end, they like to do that. Yeah. Someone get a man in Tyler Warren's face. Right. And they couldn't stop it.
Starting point is 01:04:04 And so, you know, it wasn't perfect. but they found a way to win, and the most important thing was, Coach, Patrick looked dialed, healthy, unafraid, including a little too unafraid when he did that one run to the sideline. And then instead of like going down or lowering his shoulder, he just got hit in his legs. But he could have had 425 and four touchdowns if not for the Kelsey and worthy drop. So like Kenneth Walker is the most important acquisition any team made. in the NFL all offseason because, as I said, you weren't here last week, Coach,
Starting point is 01:04:41 but I know you watch every day. Every day. I guess that in Patrick's entire career, there has never been a game he has played where the opposing team spent more time worrying about the Chiefs running game than this week. Like the Colts practice scheduled this week was more about, I would imagine, stopping Kenneth Walker than stopping Patrick Mahomes and what that opened up for him. So I feel great about it, even though it wasn't a complete performance. When you guys were in college, did you guys, when you're putting your schedule together,
Starting point is 01:05:16 look for that professor that everybody talked about, hey, you know, they're probably going to give you an A. That's not a bad class to take. Yeah, you had to get one or two of those, and that's kind of who the Colts are. And as excited as we are about this performance, and everybody got an A. I agree. But let's just take a look at last week. Let's just take a look at a little. Oh, this is, hold on, this is.
Starting point is 01:05:39 Might be the two best quarterbacks in the league. I might be. I'm, yeah, because the rate, hold on, can we go back? We need to go back to that. Leave that. Everybody gets an A. So Lamar did it with 25 passes. He had 364 yards.
Starting point is 01:05:53 Now, he also had another like 35 yards rushing and a touchdown rushing. His passer rating was better than Patrick's passer rating. And you just go right on, he didn't need overtime to get these numbers either. This was with 25 completions. He put up those numbers. Colts might be really bad. So as excited as we are about all the A's that we're given out for where we were offensively, this is kind of that professor.
Starting point is 01:06:16 You're like, hmm. Hold on. I got to ask you a question. Yeah, I want to see it against the dolphins. No. I got to ask you a question. Is it not reason for significant optimism in Kansas City? If what your point is that two games back from ACs,
Starting point is 01:06:34 surgery, Lamar, or Patrick is performing at the two-time MVP, all-pro, Lamar Jackson level. Like, is that not, like, reason for... Well, we did see Lamar Jackson play a different defense this week, and it didn't go as well. So, but I don't understand.
Starting point is 01:06:52 Okay. I mean, I guess... I'm just saying the numbers are the numbers. Yeah, the numbers are great. And as exciting as it may be, because there were a lot of great things that Patrick did, and I think Kenneth Walker has been amazing and Kenneth Walker almost single-handedly beat the Broncos,
Starting point is 01:07:08 but I don't want to be the total party booper here, but I do think we've got to have a little perspective on who we're throwing the ball against when Lamar is hitting 300 plus yards with 25 completions. It's not exactly. It's not Daniel Jones doing it. Lamar's one of the greatest players in the league. And when he played a different defense this week, how did it go? I mean, okay.
Starting point is 01:07:31 Is that an unfair? Am I being unfair in that they played the same defense? They had very similar results. Are we going to get overly excited about that? Now, if you want to, if you want to, you can use that logic for Mahomes if you just want to say because he wasn't that good against Denver. But the chief's offense still was good against Denver, which we think is one of the best defenses. I absolutely think that Kenneth Walker has been incredible.
Starting point is 01:07:59 I just would like to see the. passing game and Mahomes against a more... He threw it well. He didn't complete a pass over 10 air yards in the first game, but yesterday he obviously was throwing it all over to the other. So again, the cult of their nice elixir for whatever ails
Starting point is 01:08:19 you offensively. I mean, I think that for the record, I think that that part's accurate. I think the sauce got banged up, Chavarious Ward's out. I think there's second, like, I don't think the chief's receiver situation is all of a sudden fix. I do think that, you know, my home's probably going to win the MVP
Starting point is 01:08:34 and they're probably going to win the Super Bowl. It's time to start believing in the Bengals defense. Next up, first league source, right here on FS-1. Hear that? Saturday on Fox last regular season baseball night in America. Ben Rice and the Yankees gear up for the postseason against the Orioles. Or you can see Ray's taking on Bryce Harper and the Phillies. Saturday at 7 only on Fox.
Starting point is 01:09:24 Welcome back to first things first. There's no huddle time. We do the normal show, but instead of huddling, we don't. Head to Houston where Joe Burrow found Jamar Chase twice in the end zone while the Sincy defense. Get this. Only gave up a pair of field goals to get to 2-0 and drop the Texans to 0-2. Here's Burrough on the Bengals defense. It feels like early on in 2021 when, you know, you're trying to, you know,
Starting point is 01:09:53 we got a really good defense and try to stay in front of the sticks, not turn the ball over, kick field goals. You know, you put points on the board. We're going to win with our defense. Wow. So time to buy stock in the. the Bengals and their defense. I might have to add a tiny bit to my portfolio.
Starting point is 01:10:14 Because it's lacking entirely. For years, I've shorted this team. Yeah. And this year, what they had going for them was, you know, they obviously put the investment in in the off season. Even if I thought they paid a heavy premium for Dexter Lawrence, they made that along with other acquisitions. They also, it feels like on this show we only talk about hard schedules.
Starting point is 01:10:36 But if so many teams have hard schedules, somebody's got easy schedules. The Bengals, the toughest part of their schedule was supposed to really be what they just went through. Like that, it was, you know, and it was like, oh, they always start slow and you have two tough games off the bat. Well, they're two and oh. And now, and again, you got a couple games against the Ravens. You have the Chiefs game. And, you know, I still believe, I know they've played a poor second half. The Jags are tough.
Starting point is 01:11:05 but it's not, that's not a murderer's row. Burroughs out here getting hit so much, it's, it's, it's fixing his previous injuries. Yeah, that's good. He said after the game, he said to Will Anderson after the game, he goes, you guys popped my rib back into place. So that part is, you know, the asterisk with them always is pending Burroughs health, and it does feel like he's getting hit a lot. But fair is fair. They forced four turnovers against Tampa. And in this game, they totally shut down the Texans all.
Starting point is 01:11:35 offense that again, what's real, KW? Like, Texas offense, move the ball on Buffalo. Right. And every once in a while a player in this league makes a play so special, you're like, Jesus, that guy is terrifying. And that's what the Jamar Chase play was. So, yeah, I mean, they're a very legit two and O
Starting point is 01:11:51 and I agree with Joe in this regard. It feels to me like it's the best Bengals team since 2022 when they made the AFC championship. Look, when the bills beat Houston on the last drive of the game, we were crowning them, you know, best team in the league. And they handled Houston, obviously, you know.
Starting point is 01:12:11 And, I mean, shut down the run game. C.J. Stroud had yards, but obviously they only got six points. And Burrow has not played Joe Burrow level football yet. He's averaging like 200 yards a game. He's only got three touchdowns into two games. And that Dexter Lawrence is playing phenomenal. They're fourth in the league in rushing right now. Rush defense.
Starting point is 01:12:35 Yeah, nobody can run. And top 10 in points allowed. I know it's only two games, but top 10 and points allowed. So, yeah, I mean, I've got them making the playoffs. When you look at some of the teams, the chargers might not be what we thought. The Pats might not be what we thought. Like, the AFC is opening up as far as teams making the playoffs. So, yeah, I mean, I think they're legit.
Starting point is 01:12:57 I can sell you from my Bengals stock because I bought it the IPO and winning the division. So, yeah, there's that. Defensively, you said it, their top 10 in scoring, their eighth right now. The number one in sacks, which is surprising. I have the most sacks of anybody. And to me, the 2-0 start is good. But remember, last year they got off to a 2-0 start as well and then lost eight out of the next nine games.
Starting point is 01:13:23 Yeah, Burrow got knocked out. Yeah, I don't think we're going, well, as Burrow got knocked out in, they couldn't stop anybody. So I don't think we're heading in that direction. but I'd like to see a little bit more of this current form of the Bengals. I am worried about how much Joe Burroughs getting hit. I think it's just a matter of time if he keeps getting hit with this level of frequency. That part is a huge concern.
Starting point is 01:13:45 Yeah, that's my, I'd say the biggest concern right now is that's got to come down dramatically or else he's going to be out for a significant amount of time. First game the Bengals defense didn't allow a touchdown since 2020. Head to Foxborough where Aaron Rogers just looked like a shell of himself. He was held to three points, sacked four times, coughed up the ball twice. One was a Pat's touchdown. Here he was after the game. Can't feel sorry for ourselves, can't point fingers, we all got to play better. But I think we can all give a little more, you know.
Starting point is 01:14:22 The best teams are player-led teams, so we got to keep taking the ownership. And in a game like today where there wasn't a lot of flow to it, we need to be better. to be better and it starts with me at like making sure Mike knows what's working what's not working I didn't feel I felt like that read more incendiary than it's well no he said it starts with me I need to do a better job with telling the coaches when they're screwing up like it's my I'm the leader of this team and as the leader of this team it is on me to let other people know when they're doing bad at their jobs hey we've got no that is that we've only got a field goal This is really quite working.
Starting point is 01:15:00 Go ahead. Look, I've gone to some concerts where the artist plays all new stuff and you're like bummed out. And then you go to some and they play the hits. I feel like Aaron's back to playing the hits. You know, we're back to classic Aaron where it's, you know, we're starting off where, yeah, I could have done a little more to make sure the game plan wasn't so bad.
Starting point is 01:15:20 And, you know, we could have done a little bit more to make sure that we're leading because there's not much leadership from above. So we're back to play. playing the hits and I'm sure this is going to go from this level where we are right now. A few more losses. We'll keep ramping it up until we get all the good stuff. Well, he says I got to let Mike know what's worked.
Starting point is 01:15:39 Nothing's working. They're fourth worst in the league in rushing offense. Fifth worst in passing offense. Aaron Rogers, I don't really like saying war. Like, I feel I want to respect. He doesn't have it anymore. Period.
Starting point is 01:15:56 He's either can't really throw it downfield or he's just trying to get rid of the ball so quick so he doesn't get hit. And he got clocked obviously yesterday. And they can't protect him for the Westmore. No, right. So he's just not very good anymore. He's averaging 5.2 yards per attempt.
Starting point is 01:16:16 That's 31st in the league. Like, I've said it, this is going to be their first losing season since 2003. And he's going to be a big part of it as McCarthy and the rest of them as well. Maybe not. Maybe. Oh, Dick a bitch. Yeah, I mean, at some point you were on that early and then I was watching this game and this is when I knew that your take was right.
Starting point is 01:16:39 Classic 2. Thanks, K.W. How soon? I think it'd be midway through the season. When Aaron Rogers got pulled from the game, part of me was like, I forgot what time. The game was kind of in hand. But I was like, oh. I want to see what happens now.
Starting point is 01:16:56 So I don't, listen, Aaron Rogers has become a complicated public figure. His NFL career is not complicated at all. He's one of the greatest players in the history of the league who is one of the four or five most regular season decorated quarterbacks. Andy has a Super Bowl with an unbelievable performance in the Super Bowl on his resume. He is as minted as you get. He's 42 years old and he's not good at all anymore. And last year, he was able to protect, for lack of a better term,
Starting point is 01:17:33 his touchdown interception ratio, which made the numbers look better than the actual play did. And he still, he'll be, you know, I don't imagine he'll do like NFL media in the future. But if he did, at 55 years old, he could be on a pregame field, you know, throwing lasers. You know what I mean? Like, man, he can still say,
Starting point is 01:17:52 sling it. He'll be a Dan Marino to this day. You know what I mean? Put your eye out if he wanted to. But it doesn't mean you can play quarterback in the NFL. And I would be stunned if Aaron Rogers starts 12 games this year. And I don't know if that's because
Starting point is 01:18:09 he gets hurt. He gets benched. They decide to just, you know, go to the young guys because they're four and eight, seven and they need to turn the page. But it to me, and I am a betting man.
Starting point is 01:18:24 I think it's 8 to 1 that he starts 17 games this year. Like it seems totally unrealistic. I think they're going to be bad. I think he is going to keep getting hit. And I think at some point either Aaron or the team or both of them be like, this is not. No, it doesn't look like it's working. This isn't fun. But do you think it'll be a coaching decision or do you think it'll be Rogers saying,
Starting point is 01:18:50 hey, I got injured and I can't go? I don't, I, here's what I think, I think the Steelers will be, I think they'll be eliminated from the playoffs with, you know, four or five games to go. And in which case, they will want to look at the younger player if they haven't already gotten there yet. And I think that. But you're saying as long as it's competitive, they're not going to bet you. Correct. But I just don't think it's going to be competitive very long. Yeah, that's what I'm saying.
Starting point is 01:19:15 Like, I think that Patriots have the greatest defense of all time, which is Aaron Rogers. Well, I do think we're not giving New England enough credit. I thought that they played really well defensively. And granted, it was 13 to 3 prior to the forced fumble that was returned for a touchdown. Steelers' defense is legit. The game was in hand or at least competitive to that point. Steelers' offense has scored your 16 points. Yeah, there's no fear when Aaron Rogers had the ball.
Starting point is 01:19:42 He's 42 years old. Like, it's not, there's no shame. They're averaging 11 points a game. They've got the Bengals next. With a pick six on there. Head to Dallas. Jane Daniels, Disluster. The dislocating the same elbow he dislocated last year caused him to miss seven in the last eight games.
Starting point is 01:19:57 Nick, your reaction to this injury and coaches your guy. I mean, listen, I just wanted, this is what I was going to try to do earlier, and I want to ask you. So here, this is his third time he's hurt this elbow. And we're going to show him to you in chronological order. So this is the first time. He is running. He tries to break his fall. The elbow pops out.
Starting point is 01:20:19 That was awkward, yeah. It was an awkward fall, tries to break his fall. But like, so I know he's getting hit, but nobody hit him on the, you know what I mean? Breaking his fall. This, he gets shoved down. Again, you don't want your quarter, maybe the quarterback shouldn't even even try to stop it, but he gets shoved down, re-injures it first game back out. Yesterday, it's as he gets stepped.
Starting point is 01:20:41 It's right there is where it happened. It did not happen on the hit. It happened on the stumble and the, you know, trying to brace his fall. I Coach, I think he has going to have surgery to, you know, get this tightened up or fixed or whatever it is. But my fear for him when he came into the league was that this sport, that position, his frame, it's stuff like this is going to happen. The commanders now, you know, this is the offseason they can pay him.
Starting point is 01:21:13 I think that is eliminated as a possibility now. And I think if you're a commander's fan, you have to have very, very strong, you know, they have a history of, oh, my God, we have this electric number two overall pick quarterback that sadly couldn't stay healthy. Now, RG3 suffered one catastrophic knee injury and it derailed his career, sadly. But I just, I'm not stunned. I hate, I, oh, just everyone will hate me for this. I'm not so shocked this happened. Like, I feel badly about it. But I'm not shocked by it.
Starting point is 01:21:47 So what I'm not totally sure of, did he, he didn't have shoulder or elbow surgery in the fall season. No. So typically with dislocations is once you dislocate something once, because you've stretched out the tendon, the odds of it dislocating again increases significantly. So typically the only way to again get back to a base level is to tighten up the tendon, fix it. And again, I'm not a doctor, but this is what I understand from dislocations. So it surprises me that he didn't have the surgery in the off season because the odds are that it's going to happen again. Now, he was advised, I'm sure, by multiple doctors, I guess, that it could heal or get to a point where it was strong enough to withstand it. But it's not like this was a dramatic situation.
Starting point is 01:22:36 So with surgery, will this change? And to your point, you've made the point about him being slight and getting injured, but this is the same injury. a dislocation over and over again to the same arm. This isn't multiple different injuries. The body parts. Coach, I know maybe I'm an idiot. I don't think a sturdier guy suffers the first injury. Maybe, again, maybe I'm wrong.
Starting point is 01:23:02 But I just, as a guy who's been skinny his whole life and has gotten hurt a bunch of times, I feel like the injuries, the things that have broken my collar bones three times that snap my arm, like the different things. Those don't bounce her on the field. You know, actually, I think he was a retired foot. I just don't think would happen to any of your sons, who are like sturdy big football players. But with dislocations, again, once you do the first one,
Starting point is 01:23:35 everything's loose and the odds of it dislocating again increases each time it happens. So I'm surprised he didn't get the surgery. again, he's got access to the greatest doctors in the world so I'm sure that he was advised however he was advised but I'd imagine you've got to tighten this back up so that it doesn't have the probability of dislocated.
Starting point is 01:23:57 Yeah, that'd be in the case. He's got to have surgery. I don't know how he can't. His people should be telling him to. Which means his season's over. Yeah, but if I'm the commanders, I'm like, look, we don't want to put you out here in six weeks and then you play three games
Starting point is 01:24:12 and you're injured again. Like get it right. But that does. But, Brew, you agree with me. I know we got to go. That if he has, if he has season ending surgery, then this coming off season, you can't pay him. Can't pay him. I mean, it's like you just, it's just, again, I want all the guys to get paid.
Starting point is 01:24:29 The players are all the money, not the owners, in my opinion. But it would be, it would be irresponsible as a franchise. Is Jackson Dark going to outplay Matthew Stafford tonight? That's next year on first things first. Hear that? It's your money calling. It wants a promotion. Starting point is 01:25:15 Going into Buffalo. Wow, a FC versus AFC matchup on Fox is sick. We don't normally get those games. Or Jets, Lions, Seahawks, Commanders, Pants, and Browns in that at four, Vikings taking on the bucks. Tyler Murray is back. Or you might see Cardinals, 49ers, only on Fox on Sunday. He's cooking.
Starting point is 01:25:35 He's tomorrow show. Aaron Donald is expected to make his debut tonight against Jackson Dart and the Giants. First look at the Rams in America. So we'll see if they're week one, Dudd was just a combo of rust and jet lag. Brew, you want to start us off? Who you got here?
Starting point is 01:25:53 Yeah, I got the Rams. I mean, they were embarrassed over there in Australia. I'm sure they are going to be hyped up to write the ship. Aaron Donald back so they're going to be emotional. Stafford didn't play well. He wants to write the ship. And Seattle and San Francisco are both 2 and O looking good. So the Niners can not already.
Starting point is 01:26:16 The Rams cannot get too far behind those teams. So, yeah, I think, and I'm not sure what the Giants are yet. They look great in their opener, but I have no idea what they have. Do you have a tiny bit more faith in the Giants based on Dallas looking good? You know what I mean? Yeah, yeah. Yes. I think the Giants are legitimately solid, at the very least, solid team.
Starting point is 01:26:40 You could just see coaching their opener. Like, Harbaugh did, you know, everything looked better. They looked like a much more buttoned down. franchise and team. So I do think they're legitimate, but I think the Rams, the Rams kind of, it's not a must win, but it's a must win. Like, I mean, they need to come out and win. Yes.
Starting point is 01:26:57 So, yeah. They were well-rested, angry, talented. All those things, the Giants have to go to the West Coast. So now they're going to deal with travel and a time difference. I would imagine Aaron Donald coming back. Yeah, locked in, Rams ready to roll. And listen, the Rams and things. theory did what they did travel-wise for week one to make sure they had as little effects
Starting point is 01:27:23 as possible for week two. Now with that said, those 13 people they sent down to Australia to do the sleep study over two years to figure that out. Part of what they came away with is man, the way the Niners are doing it, they're going to be a wreck in the world. And the Niners came out and just clocked. They need to leave those 13 people in Australia. So I don't know about that.
Starting point is 01:27:42 With that said, an unprecedented moment of who you got. No way. Wow. No way. I don't think he's, he's not doing it. No way. Hold on. Just for the record, picking a big underdog is not an unprecedented moment.
Starting point is 01:27:58 It's just what we do sometimes. That's not what I'm doing. You're not about to see a Giants logo or a Rams logo. My pick is dependent on this person. Tie, Bruke. If Puka plays the Rams win, if he doesn't, I think they're going to lose. And we don't know if Pooka's playing. So I think that no Aaron Donald plus Stafford looking shaky.
Starting point is 01:28:21 No Miles Garrett. I'm sorry, pardon me. No, thank you. No Miles Garrett. Aaron Donald, I would imagine, for like 10 to 12 snaps, Stafford looking shaky. If they don't have Puka, I don't think they win this game. Wow. The Rams are wildly talented, but not deep.
Starting point is 01:28:39 And they are, you know, they are a star-laden team. One of the, their star, Miles Garrett's already out. Another one of their stars, quarterbacks, you know, shaky game week one. If they don't have puka, I don't think they win. Kyle Garrett had zero production in game one, so it's not like they're missing anything from him not being there. Test on what he did game one. But they got crushed.
Starting point is 01:28:59 You get Aaron Donald back. You got Cooper Cup Devonty? No, you don't have Cooper Cup. Devante. I mean. Yeah, no, no, no. The Kyron Williams and Devante. Well, Kyron's the run.
Starting point is 01:29:09 Yeah. I will also take the Rams. But coach, I want to ask you, specifically about Aaron Donald. If you're just watching this game, are you going to know that Aaron Donald is playing outside of like the feature and it's like, is he actually going to make it?
Starting point is 01:29:26 Am I going to hear Aaron Donald's name on the broadcast in a real way? Like old school Aaron Donald or it's like, oh, hey, 10 snaps of just nothing. I would think that you're going to hear Aaron Donald in a meaningful way tonight in some capacity. Okay. Like a stack?
Starting point is 01:29:44 Outside of just, oh my God, he's playing. No, that he'll make an impact. Yeah, he'll make an impact as a player as opposed to as a feature for the broadcast. Okay. Live from New York, first things first overtime today are the Chiefs fully back. Patrick Malmes looks excellent. Meanwhile, what did the Cowboys prove in a big win for DAC over the commanders? And finally, do Danny's giant have the Rams on upside alert?
Starting point is 01:30:12 Danny is down to one quarterback. Take it easy. Who looks good. He's only played one game. Well, that's it. Yeah. Chris was good. Chris Bressard.
Starting point is 01:30:22 Where's the case? Hold on a second. Nick Wright. Wait a second. Wait a second. The stats case with the stickers. I was going to be a curse. We're going to take something happens to Jackson Dart.
Starting point is 01:30:34 Yeah. That's a. I am fascinated. Guys, it's a great day. It's a great day. I'm fascinated by Danny's. We're going to get. state. I'm feeling great. Let's get to it. Head to Chicago. We did I feel physically ill.
Starting point is 01:30:47 A lot's happened since that tweet, Nick. We're befuddled by Brian Flores's defense before Caleb went down with an injury. Luckily, not as severe as it first looked. What made you think it was bad, bro? Just, I mean, it looked. Look at this. Yeah, that made me think it was it ruined my day. You know, he's a big dude, though. He, he, you know he gained some weight. Yeah. He actually lost. He lost weight. Yeah, he lost weight to get faster. He was bigger. He was a tank. Yeah, he really. Courtney Cronin tweet.
Starting point is 01:31:19 I don't know if I would. Ben Johnson. I am today. I don't know if I would use strong militaristic analysis of William's today. I will practice this week. I'm toes down. But he's not ruled him out yet for week three against the Eagles on Monday night.
Starting point is 01:31:33 That's all the news that the Bears received on Caleb's hamstring injury, somewhat encouraging. So that's been a real roller coaster for. roller coaster for you, Danny. Yeah. Week one, you guys, were the best offense in the history of the world, and we had commissioned
Starting point is 01:31:48 artisans to start carving Ben Johnson's Canton bust. And then... He scored three points for the Mighty Bears defense. It was a little rainy. Your reaction to somewhat positive news about Caleb and just a dreadful
Starting point is 01:32:04 performance. Let's start with the overwhelmingly positive news about Caleb. This is not somewhat positive. No. This is not somewhat positive. I am overjoyed right now. Okay?
Starting point is 01:32:19 Ten out of ten happy. All right. I thought the season was over. I thought it was over. And that is partly because it was non-contact, partly because of the scream, partly because of how he went off on the cart. I thought the season was over.
Starting point is 01:32:34 Thought he had torn his hamstring. Like the DAC Prescott got injury, and I thought the season was over. and it was a rough day for me yesterday. I'm not going to lie. I was very upset. And so this news is great. This news is great.
Starting point is 01:32:49 And I think a lot of the criticism about it is frankly absurd. Criticism about what? About his reaction to it. About how Caleb handled it. I think, listen, I think the memes on the internet are funny. And if you want to get your jokes off and you're a Vikings fan or a Packers fan or someone on the internet, and you want to be like, oh, I burned the top of my mouth on a hot pocket. You know, I didn't put your face in the pal.
Starting point is 01:33:09 I think that's all fair and funny. But questioning. Do you actually mean it? You know, I don't, I'm not looking at these things. That's hilarious. It's very, there are, there are, there, a lot of that is, I think, genuinely clear. But questioning his toughness or intimating that he is not tough or overreacted in that. Like, the guy got set 68 times as a rookie and didn't miss a game.
Starting point is 01:33:33 Can I ask a question? Yeah. Because you, you put two things together there that I think are. I'm in one camp, but not... That he overreacted, but he's tough. I'm not questioning his toughness. He's incredibly tough, absolutely. I mean, I don't even think it's a matter of an opinion that he...
Starting point is 01:33:51 And people are allowed to overreact. People are allowed to be emotional. But the picture behind Kevin Wilds is a player who's head is in a towel who appears to be in tears. But don't you think in that moment, he thought he had torn his hamstring? Like, he's going to say he thought his season was over. He thought he heard a pop.
Starting point is 01:34:07 Like, he didn't do it because he tweaked his... hamstring? Except literally he did. No, I know, but I'm saying he literally did it. Fair retort. But in the moment. Like, he obviously did not think that. He didn't think he did.
Starting point is 01:34:21 I didn't think, right, which is why I'm saying. So it was an overreaction. Okay, but like, again, I think that. I don't think he was acting. Let me be clear. I don't think he was acting. I don't think it was performance. He generally thought he had a serious injury.
Starting point is 01:34:36 Right, which made an overreaction. Okay. That happens all the time, though, right? No, this doesn't happen all the time. We don't typically... The Gras video you referenced earlier, the Pierce thing that people are bringing up. Those are two things that have.
Starting point is 01:34:52 Those are hard. The Paul Pierce thing was 20 years ago. Again, make a joke. The Gras thing was 10 years ago. Making a joke. No, hold on. Wait, you just prove like, it's not that it's never happened. But if the reference points are
Starting point is 01:35:06 a basketball game from a quarter-centry, and a football game from 10 years ago, it is rare to use KW's point of within 24 hours of this on the cart might play the next game. And I like Caleb a ton. That is odd. Which is why I'm shocked by the whole thing. But I'm not going to question the guy's tough. I guarantee you that he genuinely thought that he was really hurt.
Starting point is 01:35:33 And so I will live with the jokes or being compared to Paul Pierce or Rob Gron-Cal. if he's going to play on Monday night football, and the MVP season and the Super Bowl season is still alive. I'm fine with all of the joke. Will they score more than three points if he plays? Yes. So I am just, I'm curious. Because I'm guessing that if the show was four hours long,
Starting point is 01:35:58 we would have gotten to, did Dennis Allen dominate Kevin O'Connell? Like, did the Bears defense? No. No? What? They just don't have a good off. The Vikings don't have a good offense. What are you talking about?
Starting point is 01:36:10 They got Carson Wins starting at quarter. Hold on a second. I'm sorry. Did they have 39 points in week one? Yes. Did they score five touchdowns in week one? Listen, if you want to start comparing offenses with Caleb Williams and Ben Johnson at the helm to offenses with Carson Wins. You can.
Starting point is 01:36:26 But no, we wouldn't. To answer your question, no. Dennis Allen's, this show could be 24-hour continuous screen. And Dennis Allen's name wasn't going to come on. Dennis Allen also. Dennis Allen also did not tell everybody we're going to have the best office in the history of tackle football. Which is why, Brew, I will give you guys this. If we can show the Broncos graphic, please.
Starting point is 01:36:49 We need to update the 23rd. Oh, this is the biggest drop. I also like this graphic. The two biggest drops from week one to week two were the bears and the Vikings. Yeah. It was a tough day to score. It was 20 plus mile an hour wins. Over 500 flights were canceled out of O'Hare.
Starting point is 01:37:04 It was raining. Life were canceled out of O'Hare. Don't give up, Danny, I'm pulling for you. I go, keep going. Yes, flights were canceled. Were there, were their, was there players on them? They missed the game. Did you not see guys slipping all over the field?
Starting point is 01:37:23 Yeah, did not see the drops? Did you not see the fumbles? $6.8 million a hell dam. They're on the goal line and a ball got punched out. That's not Taylor's Chicago. It was 160 degrees of the turf in Tennessee. They were literally putting water on guys' tweets. So they wouldn't melt.
Starting point is 01:37:43 Which is what it was last week for Bear's Panthers when they scored 59 points. I'm just, man, come on. It was a tough day to score. Bro, we're seven minutes in. And we have heard when are we talking Dennis Allen? And did you not see what it did to JetBlue? You're fine. Southwestern United to the Hubs out of Chicago.
Starting point is 01:38:04 No one of your airlines. What I'm saying is that was a very, that was a very, Very difficult data score. If you guys honestly think that the Bears' offense has been solved, that the Bears' offense is not going to be great. By Brian Flores. In a game where there were two teams combined last week had 13 touchdowns. And this week they had zero.
Starting point is 01:38:24 But are you really trying to say the Vikings with Carson Wentz, with all due respect to him, at the helm are a good offense? Let alone very good. They scored 30 points. less than they did in week one. That was a lot of the turn over, the field position that the Packers were giving them and things like that. They scored five touchdowns, Bruce. They scored zero in this game.
Starting point is 01:38:46 The Bears defense that allowed 37 to Bryce Yon. Time! Time! Hold on. Wait a second. I am making, I am making an executive decision for a moment because I know we have other things we have to get to and we want to stay on this. I'll go here all day. If you would, if at some point this week, maybe infernomeys,
Starting point is 01:39:07 At some point this week, we want to have the, is the Bears' defense underrated discussion? Let's do it. But that has nothing to do with the question at hand of. We're having the discussion. Will Ben Johnson and Caleb Williams embarrass Brian Flores? And they didn't, and they lost that matchup. But also, would you have said, going into that game, that the Vikings were going to score a touchdown on the Bears? Yes, of course.
Starting point is 01:39:35 defense is terrible. Yes, of course. And they didn't. And they were three of 13 on third down, and they had less than 250 yards. But so doesn't that, doesn't that indicate to you that the offensive conditions for both teams were awful? So you're just saying it's the weather. Yes. How did that affect the fumble in the red zone?
Starting point is 01:39:53 At the goal line, the ball popped. It had been raining all day. That was weather? Deandre Swift fumble. It was a good part. You know, then let me. Andre swift fumble. Let me say this then.
Starting point is 01:40:02 Williams hasn't had a great game against Flores in the last two. years. Also, we'll see him in week 18. Also, in a dome. Danny, you and Ben Johnson thought this Bears team had a legitimate chance to average 37 points per game, 35, 37 points per game. That took a hit. Well, hold on. You guys did that. I assume knowing what city they played in. Of course. You didn't, you didn't think, I wouldn't imagine that they were going to run the table of the season. season and just it's 72 and sunny every day. So whether notwithstanding you can show your updated chart. I owed this to you guys. I wanted to update it to you the 2013 Broncos. It took a bit of a hit going down. And I also, because I'm fair.
Starting point is 01:40:58 The Brock was going 41 in week two. The Bears scored three. So they're no longer on pace. and also I'm retiring the graphic. No! Yeah, no, I'm retired. No, give it one. No, Danny, no.
Starting point is 01:41:11 Give it one more week. If Caleb's not like. If Caleb plays, we can bring it back. If Caleb, I'm not doing the graphic for Tyson Bayesian. So that's the satisfaction of the game. It lasted two weeks. It was a disaster. They didn't play well.
Starting point is 01:41:23 But if you guys think I'm moving off the idea that this is going to be a dominant offense because of a game with their 25 mile an hour wins when it was raining all day and guys are dropping the ball left and right on both teams, flipping and sliding all over one of the worst fields in the NFL. Caleb has one touchdown in three games against Brian Flores in the last two seasons. Brian Flores won the matchup against Ben Johnson, obviously. Totally. But again, Dennis Allen won it against Donald O'Connor.
Starting point is 01:41:48 Can I ask you a question? Nobody cares about that. Okay, but I'm saying. Yeah, Carson. All right, let's take a small moratorium on the Dennis Allen talk. The question for you, Danny, is this. There's a lot of bravado from Ben Johnson. And a lot of hope in the offense this year.
Starting point is 01:42:07 And then you guys went out and put up 59 points. And you're like, there is the foundation of my takes. That was just one week. And then the next week, it was just, it was three points. Much worse. And you're like, we only have two things to choose from. You're like, well, this one's real and this one is scenario based. It wasn't like nobody knows the defenses and nobody.
Starting point is 01:42:28 Everybody's, also everybody scored in week one. Have you still think you're here? Have you modulated your hopes at all after this three-point game? The quarterback got heard, so clearly it downgraded. I retired the graphic. They're probably not going to be the greatest scoring offense in the history of the sport. When he's back, because he's okay. But when I expect the Bears to be in the running for the best offense in football this year.
Starting point is 01:42:52 So it is a downgrade. Yeah. From in the world, from the greatest in the history of the league to right now, the Panthers have scored more than us. Yeah, through two games. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. A downgrade, no doubt.
Starting point is 01:43:03 Okay, we're going to touch on the Chiefs quickly and then very quickly and then do a lot of Herbert. Chiefs Chiefs offense is full steam ad. They put up 33 points reviving the conversations of yesteryear that you can't let Mahomes have the ball last. He walked the Colts down, won the game. Are you ready to admit the Chiefs are for real? You've always believed in Mahomes. Didn't believe in the Chiefs? Yeah, the Chiefs, listen, that was a very impressive offensive performance by Patrick Mahomes.
Starting point is 01:43:32 He looked incredible. He did something that he hadn't done in 63 games. We can throw it up there. It had been a long time since he had one of those truly vintage, 350 yards, three touchdowns, no turnovers. It had been a long time. So last year they had Bienemy. Yeah, so yeah, put some correlation there.
Starting point is 01:43:48 Shout out to him. Yeah, Bienemy deserves it. Kenneth Walker, spectacular. Nix talked about the addition. Completely agree. His career high for touches is 255. He's pacing right now for 476 touches. That's actually a little concerning.
Starting point is 01:44:05 It's just something to monitor. He's not going to have 475 touches. Well, no, but just what they have needed from him in these two games, how much they have relied on him. I assume they'll need him less with Mahomes getting back in the form. And I thought the rookie looked awesome. He really did. And if they have a deep threat, that is going to absolutely matter a ton for them.
Starting point is 01:44:24 I thought, I disagree with what you said about Stuyken earlier in the show. I can't believe how the Colts handled that in over. If you're going to kick, which is what most of people do in overtime, if you're going to kick because you're going to say... Meaning, play defense first, not kick the field goal. Play defense first. If you're going to play defense first in overtime, you're saying that if there are going to be three possessions, you're going to get one of them. Right? You're conceding that the other team. Right?
Starting point is 01:44:50 So then when you, if you are going to kick and play defense first and you do the objective thing of like you hold them to a field goal, you have to play for a touchdown because you're only getting. getting one possession. So when you complete the deep ball to Treadwell, running on first and second down and going backwards, and being so conservative there, and then not going for it. And I know it's fourth and eight and stuff, but your chances of winning kicking that field goal are essentially zero. You're praying for a tie. Running on first and second down, I thought was terrible. With Jonathan Taylor, really? Yeah. I mean, he, they were, I mean, he had a great game. But yes, I thought they needed to throw the football. I just, I thought it was too conservative and they put themselves in a hole. And I would have gone for it on fourth and eight.
Starting point is 01:45:38 Just like, yeah, I said I probably would. But I guess you can also, it's futile, it seems. But he was saying, I'm going to trust my defense to get a stop. If it was week one, maybe, but when Mahomes has put up that many points, I would not. Your defense is not good. Yeah, I would trust my defense. I know we got to move on. Just real quick.
Starting point is 01:45:57 Do you think the chiefs can dig deep and go beat the Miami Dolphins this week? Yeah, the chiefs are going to make the play. Okay, there we. We're back. There we go. There we go. Our first change. Wow. Yeah, they'll make the playoffs. I'm not going 14 for 14. Wow, I wonder whose spot they're going to take. KW., who are we talking about
Starting point is 01:46:14 next? Danny, let me tell you something. Before we go on, Christina, you want to talk about the flights here? Go ahead. How prepared are you for this segment before we go? I'm 100% prepared for every segment I do. Great answer. Do you need help? Do you want, because I could go either way on this. Do you want me to like back you up? I could just like, well, yeah, I'm going to be fine. Bring the. Getting late early for Justin Herbert in the Chargers. They fall to 0 and 2 with losses to the Cardinals.
Starting point is 01:46:44 And then the Raiders. Herbert completed 15 passes and threw two picks. One of them a ridiculous drop. Yeah, three fumbles. They recovered all of them. Here's horrible. Six fumbles. They recovered five. The wise what we're talking about. That's what we're talking about. We're looking the tape. We'll go back to work. That's all I know how to do. That's all we know how to do. And find our way, find the way.
Starting point is 01:47:11 And we'll move forward. So one week lead. And it's the only thing I know how to do. Here's your schedule, Danny. Yeah, this is not good. On Fox in Buffalo. I'll pick the chargers in that one. In Seattle, Broncos, Chiefs.
Starting point is 01:47:30 That's just one column before the buy. Then it gets easy, Rams, Texans, Ravens. How much is Herbert at fault for the O.N2 start here? About 33.3%. Listen, he hasn't been good enough. He's the quarterback. He got paid a ton of money. He deserves fault.
Starting point is 01:47:50 I don't know. I don't know. He needs to be better. I think what has happened to this Chargers team this year is whatever they put into Mike McDaniel coming in and. fixing this thing and obviously Herbert has to execute the offense, it's going unbelievably poorly. It's just, it's ridiculous. Joe Alt leads the league in penalties. Oh my God. Last year they couldn't win because Joe Alt was gone. Now they can't win because
Starting point is 01:48:16 Joe Alt's there. He leads the league in penalty. He leads the league. He's got five penalties through two games. He had four yesterday. I think three yesterday and allowed and allowed the hold in the end zone for the safety. Committed the hold. Yeah, yeah. That's one of the penalties. Yeah, committed the hold. He's playing They're snapping the ball Into receivers that are going in motion Yeah, Trey Harris, he's the problem No, I'm not again, but that is part of
Starting point is 01:48:38 That to me, I watched every snap at the game, right? That is partly execution of the offense Does that make sense? Yeah, yeah, I mean, they clearly have not taken to McDaniels. They had that three guys blocking one guy Week one.
Starting point is 01:48:51 It's just goofy stuff. It is not going well. And yes, we should show the two plays that we pulled from from her. Herbert, the interception that is, I mean, this was his only. Oh, no, no, no, no. This was the, he's trying to complete the ball. And look at the reverse angle.
Starting point is 01:49:07 This is so funny. Look at this. Wide open, 25 yards. Nope. I could play defense on my own guy. It is a crazy thing. I just, it's very chargers. And so that's not on Herbert.
Starting point is 01:49:21 And this interception is not on Herbert. And the only fumble they lost, Omarie and Hampton, when it's 17, 14, and he gets a big gain. And then he fumble. it and then it leads to a Raiders touchdown, that's not on Herbert. But so the fumbles that the three Justin Herbert fumbles that his teammates recover. Yes. Again, on Herbert, man. Okay. He has, he has been bad. Okay. So I, listen, he's been he's been we can, he's been Aaron Rogers this year. He is then like the and I that's, and again,
Starting point is 01:49:52 Aaron Rogers has been bad. Yeah. There's been, yeah, two of the worst starting quarterbacks in football this year. I, the, it is consistently, as far as, as much as I can be offended by a sports take, I have been for a half decade straight offended by the media's chargers fickleness. Because every single offseason, you guys love them. You love the talent. you love the coaching change. You love Staley.
Starting point is 01:50:30 Then you loved hardball. Mike McDaniel was Bill Walsh. It was, there was the, while I and whistling him through the graveyard saying, yeah, I know you got your tackles back, but Cole Strange and a backup center and a right guard platoon, that's not going to work. They've been trying to make Quentin Johnson work for three years. That's not going to work. And you guys are like, you guys are crazy.
Starting point is 01:50:54 This team's more trustworthy than the Kansas City Chief. This team can go to an AFC championship game or a Super Bowl. And I am as sure as anything in life that Justin Herbert one day will be a league MVP and win a Super Bowl. When he's seven years into his career and he's getting worse and worse. I think they can still get to 10 wins. What? I think he can still get to 10 wins. What?
Starting point is 01:51:16 He's got to beat the bills. Put the schedule back up. Can they go three and four? Sorry, Brew. Go ahead. No, go ahead. The schedule. The next seven games, Danny are.
Starting point is 01:51:25 Danny. I mean, can they go three and four? Not against, not if the Cardinals and Raiders are on there. They can't. No, no, three and six if that happens. And I'm, three and six if that happens. I mean, sure. Let's give them the three and four.
Starting point is 01:51:39 The two home losses are. It's terrible. It's what we think are bad teams. Yeah. Like, everybody's killing. Let me, let me come to your rescue. Oh, quick. You guys are 0 and 2 and everybody's focusing on that, understandably.
Starting point is 01:51:52 But in my book, you're 2 and 0. Oh, really? Second straight week of being the break dancers of the NFL. Fellas! What is it? What is it? I did not know this. What is this?
Starting point is 01:52:07 What are we had to get busy? Oh, I didn't know we're setting stuff up. When I thought my day, he couldn't get anywhere. Yeah. The cardboard. We've gotten better and better. That's Justin Herbert. Honestly, we've probably,
Starting point is 01:52:22 wow. Grue with it, Danny. Oh, he's nice. Can we license some Madison beer? music for them to do. Yeah, my man. Probably too expensive. Markins.
Starting point is 01:52:32 Yeah. So hopefully this cheers you up, it doesn't. It doesn't at all. I mean, that's pretty impressive. I mean, that's really amazing. They're nice. Yeah, they're very nice.
Starting point is 01:52:40 Yes. Remember when you used to do that? Oh, yeah. Well, that's first thing's first overtime for a Monday. Sure is. Coming up next. The cowboys look good. They did.
Starting point is 01:52:56 Hang out with us tomorrow on the O.T. Got to shuffle my top 10 just a little bit. Twinge. Yeah, three points is going to drop the bears. I'll be the first to report that. Well, give me back, though, to the O.T. Coach Mangini hanging out. Let's go to Dallas.
Starting point is 01:53:14 We saw a glimmer of the Gotti offense coach. Greatest offense there is from Dak Prescott. Four touchdowns from Dak, two going to CD Lamb. But, you know, Jerry Jones, it's like, you know what? Enough of this hasn't been about me. So in classic fashion, he had a post-game interview, and he said some weird stuff. Take a listen. Nothing more dangerous than an old man with money.
Starting point is 01:53:44 You know, hear that's my quote of the day. All right, so you could go in any direction you want here, Coach, but what did Dak and the Cowboys prove yesterday? And is that true? Nothing more dangerous than gold and money? First of all, I don't like that question. I resent that question. Yeah, coach, tell me about an old man with money. I didn't get the quote.
Starting point is 01:54:02 I mean, I would think a young man with money is probably pretty dangerous too. But I guess he's saying I was willing to spend and improve this team. It would have been nice to see all that money pay off in week one, but it didn't. And even the payoff in week two, I didn't come away from that game thinking, all right, the Cowboys have arrived. If Washington had taken the points before the half, it's what, 17, 6. at that point. Yep. And obviously with Jaden getting hurt when he did, everything dramatically changes
Starting point is 01:54:35 that and Washington's chasing points, it's just nowhere near the same game the second that injury happens. So to take a victory lap after that performance under those circumstances going into the halftime the way that they did, it seems. it seems a little premature. Sure. And maybe this is confirmation bias because I thought that they were a Max Crosby fit
Starting point is 01:55:06 before the year. But he's been asked about Max Crosby a lot. First day of training camp, he's asked about Max Crosby. End of training camp. He's asked about Mac. He's like, well, I can't tamper or the player on another team.
Starting point is 01:55:16 But I'd be willing to make a move for this team if I thought that we were a player away from being put over the hump. And I could see a scenario where he looks at them and says, all right, we scored 37 points. Our offense should be great. And I was just looking it up out of curiosity.
Starting point is 01:55:32 Max Crosby has, he's eighth in the NFL in pressures. He has the highest pressure rate through two games of his career. And if you're at the airport right now and you see the question that it's Cowboys and you're going to see some Chargers video on the screen. You might be a little confused. But Max Crosby dominated Joe Alt yesterday. He dominated him. He was spectacular.
Starting point is 01:55:53 This is the play where he causes the safety at the time. the end by getting the hold. So nothing more dangerous than an old man with money. Maybe he's just willing to take on a big contract in the midway point of the year. I got a DAC point that I'll make too, but just respond to that. But the price you have to pay for Max Crosby right now with the 2 and 0 Las Vegas Raiders is substantially more than you would have to pay going into the season. And if you're the Raiders, why are you making this move?
Starting point is 01:56:19 You're 2 and 0. Things look dramatically different now than they did two weeks ago. And yeah, you're an old man with money, but you're going to have to pay a much higher premium now based up where Las Vegas is standing. The trade deadline is not until week 10. So a lot of time to change with the Raiders and their record. And then this is a streak that I normally don't gamble on trends. Dak Prescott now has won 20 straight division games at home. 20 straight.
Starting point is 01:56:50 It's like it was like the biggest lock of the world. It's like DAC is going to play an NFC East team at Jerry World. and he's going to put up a ton of points. Like, they can't do it every week. You only get to play three of your home games against division opponents. I checked. It's in the rules.
Starting point is 01:57:04 But it's like, that is just, as soon as I started watching the game, I was like, oh, of course. Dack's going to cook against an NFC East team at home. It's what he always does. Yeah, but remember the lack of the century when Dallas was right, and that winning streak was like 16 or 18 games at home against Green Bay in the playoffs
Starting point is 01:57:20 who was an extreme underdog. Yeah. Everybody, everybody would have said, Absolutely lock, and then they did what they did. Look, he's great at home. It's fantastic. The lock of the week, as soon as you make it, that's the week he's going to break your heart. I get it, but it just, Dak Prescott, we talk about quarterback of the Cowboys,
Starting point is 01:57:39 we talk about the Cowboys so much, still underrated. The guy was absolutely spectacular against Washington. Let's get to a game that was a little less visually appealing. This was a pretty ugly football game between the Patriots and the Steelers. Steelers fell in what looked like, you know, 187 yards in a pin. from Aaron Rogers, 208 yards in a pick from Drake May, not exactly an offensive clinic. Some weird sound after the game from both sides, Aaron Rogers and Mike Vrable talking about the offenses. Take a listen.
Starting point is 01:58:06 The best teams are player-led teams, so we got to keep taking the ownership. And in a game like today where there wasn't a lot of flow to it, we need to be better. And it starts with me at like making sure Mike knows what's working, what's not working, our coaches know. And so we can call stuff that, you know, we feel like it's about it. better chance. What's your concern level with Drake May and the offense right now? Are you worried he's maybe pressing a little too much? No, just trying to win the game, Ben. You're not going to ruin my Sunday, but I'll come back to you tomorrow. Thanks, bud. Mike, related to that, it looked like you neither. You're not going to ruin it either. All right, dealer's choice, coach. What do you make
Starting point is 01:58:49 of all this? First of all, I agree absolutely with Mike. You win a game. Sometimes it's not how you want it to be. Sometimes your offense doesn't play as well as you want them to do, and you do great things defensively, and then you get asked the questions about all the things that went wrong, and winning is so hard in the NFL, and you work so long to get to that point. I agree with Mike totally. Like, don't let anybody ruin your Sunday if you want a game. And then on the flip side of that, when I watch Aaron Rogers play, to me, it's like going to a concert of one of your favorite favorite artists and they play all new songs and they're disappointed and then you go to a concert and they play all the hits Aaron's starting to play the hits Aaron's starting to play what we're seeing
Starting point is 01:59:33 the classic Aaron where hey you know things went wrong but you know we probably could have called better plays I got to do I got to do a better job it's on me to help the coaches so they don't make these ridiculous I got to tell them what's not working so they stop calling the things that aren't calling the bad thing it was great and when you look at when you look at what Aaron been given, this should be a pretty good offense. They've got D.K. McCaff and Michael Pitman, who are gigantic. They're both gigantic, 6-3-235, 6-4-233. They got Donna L. Washington, who's 67-264. They picked up Rico Dowdell, who averaged 4.6 yards of carry. They had Jalen Warren, who last year averaged 4.5 yards of carry. Now you add in Pat Friarmooth, who's been a very
Starting point is 02:00:20 effective tight end. They've got a bunch of weapons. They invested in a lot of weapons. They invested in first round tackle. Okay, maybe it's maybe it's all the poor plays the coaches are calling, but this offense has been horrendous for two weeks. And to me, the numbers speak for themselves over and over again, category by category. It's not very good. And to start the deflecting of accountability two weeks in, not a great sign. Yeah, I'm with you. I thought the bigger takeaway was actually on the Steeler's side of this game. Like you'll take an ugly win, a defensive team, A.J. Brown is out.
Starting point is 02:00:58 Ramandre Stevenson had the bad fumble. Like you will sprint out of there. You won by 17 points, right? The Patriots, they'll take that after their opener. In two games, Aaron Rogers has been sacked 10 times. He has four fumbles. He's lost two of them.
Starting point is 02:01:16 He has thrown two interceptions. So three of his four turnovers, the two fumbles and two picks, have gone for six the other way. There was a fourth and 43 in this game. Across the board, his numbers are worse than Deshawn Watson's. It has been a disaster. And yes, some of that is the offensive line.
Starting point is 02:01:37 D.K. Metcalfe with the terrible drops, no doubt. But I don't really see much of a path forward for Pittsburgh this year. Like we talk about, like, is the season over for the Chargers? I know Pittsburgh is one in one. But they played Cooper Rush last week and almost lost. It wasn't for a couple of Atlanta missed field goals and Tua or Pennix playing in that game. Pittsburgh's 0-and-2. So I do not, if I'm a Steelers fan right now, doesn't feel like there's any reason for optimism.
Starting point is 02:02:05 Yeah, the most shocking sack for me was the blindside hit. Got crushed. One of the unique things about Aaron Rogers is his ability to recognize coverage, pressure, all those different things. and to have that guy come clean and him not realize that he's coming, that's very uncharacteristic of someone of, look, his age, his experience. He never really gets hit like that. Happened a lot in that game, and it's happened a lot through two weeks. Coming up, though, two-minute drill here on the OT,
Starting point is 02:02:37 a shocking Ravens loss and excellent news for Caleb Williams. Back here on the OT, time for a two-minute drill to get to the biggest storylines of week two. Coach will begin with my guy Caleb. Went down with a hamstring injury in the fourth quarter in case he didn't hear. Ben Johnson says Caleb is week to week. Actually could play Monday night. Not going to rule them out. 15 of 26, 13, 138 yards and a pick before the injury.
Starting point is 02:03:03 Two minutes on the clock. Coach, your reaction to what we saw on the lakefront in Chicago. First of all, if he's able to play next week after how dramatic that injury looked and being taken off on the card and giving the thumbs up, He must have done sort of middle school theater because that is impressive. He thought it was a much more serious injury than it was. I would imagine because that was very dramatic. So I'll be shocked if he's able to play next week.
Starting point is 02:03:31 That's the first takeaway. I wish I had the drum that we share because I could beat it three, three, only three times. Because that's-drum has been retired. The second biggest drop from week one to week two and points scored. I knew who the first biggest drop was. The 73 Falcons. Oh, the 73 Falcons. Yeah, it's been a while.
Starting point is 02:03:51 That's a long time. I can't believe there's been a bigger one, frankly, from 59 to 3. I'm not remarkable. Saying that it was fun to watch, but it wasn't not fun to watch. Listen, I get it. You talk as much trash as the Bears do about greatest offense of all time and the 13 Broncos and blowouts and shutouts. People are going to like when you get egg on your face. I got no problem with the jokes.
Starting point is 02:04:11 Well, they did have the blowout. It was almost a shutout of the Bears. It's almost a blowout of the Bears. I understand that I'm going to get killed for this, but if everybody agrees that the Bears' defense is terrible, and the other team scored 39 points in week one with five offensive touchdowns, and they had less than 250 yards, the Vikings,
Starting point is 02:04:31 and went three of 13 on third down, and scored zero touchdowns. So the biggest drop-off from week one to week two was the Bears, and the second biggest drop-off from week one to week two was the Vikings. That tells me that the conditions, 20-plus mile-an-hour wins, whole game, rain coming down, the whole game, we're not conducive to good offensive football. So I believe if that game would have been played in a dome, the bears are not held to three
Starting point is 02:04:54 points. Cudos to Brian Flores and the Vikings, they won the matchup, but I'm not panicking about the offense. Quick question. Your quarterback stock exchange, where was Caleb last week? I believe he was four or five. And where was Carson Wentz? He was not on it. Okay. Yes, of course. That's why the Vikings won the game. That's curious. Don't fumble the ball, DeAndre Swift. That's curious. Let's go to Baltimore. Please. The Saints, Hand of the Ravens, a brutal loss in their home opener. 235 yards a touchdown and an interception from Lamar. 17 points for a Ravens team who put up 41.
Starting point is 02:05:22 So the question with two minutes on the clock, what went wrong for Lamar Jackson and the Ravens? And coach, we might be of one mind on this one because Declan Doyle had an amazing debut in week one. But it was 146 at the half. The Ravens were leading. And Derek Henry had five carries for 17 yards in the second half.
Starting point is 02:05:43 They had four second half drives, and Derek Henry had five carries. I don't get it. Yeah, so I believe they had a two-score lead going into the fourth quarter. So that's really how the team is built. So now you've got the ability to run Derek Henry, off running Derek Henry, and those guys forcing getting eight in the box and having to deal with that so that they can't just churn out yards and run out the clock. Now that opens up play action for Lamar Jackson.
Starting point is 02:06:09 Everything is lined up for the way that the Baltimore Ravens are built. for them to be able to win in the fourth quarter like that. And we've got a different producer, we've got a different director, but we've seen this movie before. It's the same thing that's happened in the past. And probably what's most disappointing about this is you see Jalen Hertz go down at the end of the game with no timeouts and go 65 yards and win the game. And then you see Lamar, and he has a similar drive,
Starting point is 02:06:36 maybe a little bit less time on the drive. And he throws that pick. And when he throws the pick, he said they made a great defensive player. made a play defensive. There's no play being made here defensively. This has just been thrown up. And then there's the question of, did Bateman run the right route? He said yes. Bateman says yes, but it doesn't look like they're seeing things the same way in terms of where this ball is thrown and how the route is run. It's just got to be beyond frustrating for everybody involved in this to have this outcome after removing the coaching staff and making the dramatic changes. and now having the same result.
Starting point is 02:07:15 The Saints deserve more than 11 seconds, but I will just say, Tyler Shuck continues to make plays. The Ravens defense is supposed to be excellent, and he was crazy efficient, he was not really bothered, he moved the ball. I continue to be impressed by him.
Starting point is 02:07:29 I didn't mean to have a filibuster on that. No, no, you're good. You're good. The question was about Lamar. I'm just saying, Saints deserved a little bit of love there. To Cincinnati, where Joe Burrow and the Bengals, two and O to start the year. We both liked him before the year.
Starting point is 02:07:40 That Texans defense had 20 points, two touchdowns from Burrow, who's limited at practice during the week with that tight back. 353 yards from Stroud, but no scores. Coach, bigger story. Bengals win, Texans loss. It's probably the Bengals win from a defensive perspective. The fact that the Bengals now are top 10 in defensive scoring, so I think they're eighth right now in points per game.
Starting point is 02:08:07 Their run defense especially is great. Their run defense has been outstanding, and they lead the league in sacks. So three things that I didn't think we'd be close to talking about. They put a lot of money. We've talked about that a ton of the off season and the resources they put in this defense, but to have it perform at this level this early is really exciting for them as loaded as they are offensively. Yeah, taking away David Montgomery, I thought was really impressive by the Bengals defense.
Starting point is 02:08:37 It's got to be very weird for Joe Burrow to be like, we only scored 20 points, but we won by two scores. I think it's happened once in his career, where they scored that little, and it's just a jarring result for the Bengals. But I will just point out, I want to point out three things on the Texan side. Should Nico Collins get MVP votes?
Starting point is 02:08:57 Probably not, but let's, I've been trying to figure out the C.J. Stroud thing. Let's throw up C.J. Stroud with and without Nico Collins in his career. Nico Collins is a top 10 receiver for sure, but he's flirting with top five. He wasn't in that game. Stroud looked terrible. Next thing. D'emiko Ryans.
Starting point is 02:09:14 Buddy, what are you doing? It's 10-3. I know you had struggled in some short yard or stuff, but it's fourth and inches. And you kick a 58-yard field goal instead of going for it in the third quarter. A few plays later, Jamar Chase is in the end zone. Like, that is one of the easiest go-for-it situations. The win probability on that was terrible against him. And C.J. Stroud continues to take awful sacks late in games.
Starting point is 02:09:40 Troy, look this up. That was his 10th sack in the fourth quarter in a one possession game by trailing by one possession. That's the third most in the NFL. You got to be able to execute at the end of those games, Coach. So the Texans, it was more of the same. Yeah, there's got to be a bigger learning curve for CJ. Yeah, he's been too long. All right, we got time for one more.
Starting point is 02:09:58 So we go to Denver where the Broncos got a much-needed bounce-back game against the Jaguars. Bo Nix, 288 yards a touchdown in a pick, nice bounce-back game from him and held the Jags to just 13 points. Coach, how impressed were you? You like what you saw from the Broncos. I did, and I liked it in the context of what they did the first week versus what they did the second week. And Sean Payton talked about it. There's a lot of teams that lose the first game and go on and have very successful seasons. And we talked about it going into week one.
Starting point is 02:10:29 All those games need a little bit of an asterisk because you don't really know what you're going to get from your opponent. And I'm sure they thought that Kansas City would be able to run the ball effectively. but I don't think anybody realized how effectively they'd be able to run the ball coming out of training camp. So that obviously took them by surprise for them to be able to be this effective offensively and then also do the positive things that they defensively that we've come to expect. It's really, really encouraging. Yeah, I thought it was just an impressive bounceback in both areas and they were trailing early. Like at the beginning of the game, I was like, oh,
Starting point is 02:11:08 jags in a route. They moved it easily. They ran it in. It was like, okay, I just, I thought that like last year, where the worst defensive game Denver had all year was against the Jaguars. It's like, oh, there we go. But remember, this is a nine-game regular season win streak for the Jaguars that's been snapped. That's a very impressive win by Denver.
Starting point is 02:11:27 And yeah, we might be what's real and what's not real from week one in the NFL. It happens every single year. Maybe we'll look at the Broncos that have a very talented roster and say that week one was just a mirage. Yeah. You go into that Kansas City game. Patrick Holmes is coming off from injury. How well is the running game really going to fit together after night? You don't have the same physical level of training camps that you've had historically.
Starting point is 02:11:50 The starters didn't play. I'm sure they were shocked in Denver at what Kansas City was able to do that week one. And they didn't allow 248 yards after miss tackles. Yeah, that helps a lot. The Rams, I've got them on upset alert tonight. We'll give you the formula. Jackson Dart. Jackson Darry.
Starting point is 02:12:09 He's going to outplay Matt Stafford tonight. I think it's on the board. No. Okay. All right, coach, simple question. Jackson Dart has shown up for the game. That should concern the Rams. Are the Rams on upset alert?
Starting point is 02:12:21 No, the Rams are talented, angry, and well-rested. And they have Aaron Donald coming back. So I think that's going to be a big lift. And the Giants have to deal with a little bit of a time change. and playing on the West Coast, I think that helps him as well. No Miles Garrett. Who didn't produce it all in the first game.
Starting point is 02:12:45 I know. But so they also don't have Jared versus they traded away from Miles Garrett, so they're not going to generate much pass rush, I wouldn't think. Right, but they're not losing anything from last week. No, they're not losing it, but they lost last week.
Starting point is 02:12:56 And when Jackson Dart wasn't pressured against the Cowboys, he carved them up. So if there's not much pass rush from the Rams, and it's not a very difficult home field environment, It's not like a rabid fan base. I think Jackson Darts going to look comfortable tonight. I expect this to be a pretty high scoring game, is what I would say. And you expect Jackson Dard to carve them up just because the environment's not going to be challenging?
Starting point is 02:13:20 I don't think the pass rush for the Rams is great. I don't think it was great in week one. They don't have Miles Garrett. So I think that Jackson Dard will be comfortable back then. I feel like the Rams are a little bit like the Broncos. What we saw last week is not necessarily who they are. All right. Well, my week two picks have been a disaster, so I'll probably be wrong about this.
