I'm from New York.
That was a different one.
You used the open.
I'm thrown off, man, because I failed a trivia for the first time ever.
Yeah, it was pretty embarrassed.
You, through?
No, I'm just saying for you.
This is what you pride yourself when you.
It's one of the things I pride myself on.
He wants to be on celebrity, Jeffery.
No, I want to be on right.
I got invited on Celebrity Jeopardy and I turned it down because if I'm going to get on
Jeopardy, it's going to be the old-fashioned way.
Regular Jeopardy and I'm keeping the money.
You should just, oh, because you have to give away the money.
Listen, I'm a charitable.
but if I go on Jeopardy, I'm keeping the money.
Interesting.
First hour.
They should put you on.
Yeah, they should.
Today, what are the chances that the Cowboys
have back-to-back A games and we debut the new Cowboys
report card? You know, you can't step into the same river twice.
The show is always living and breathing and evolving.
Meanwhile.
Jake Browning.
Yes, I got it.
No one killed.
Yes. I got it.
Congratulations.
No one cares.
Flacco's bench, Shador, not elevated,
and he also gives one of the strangest interviews
I've ever seen in my life,
and I'm almost 50 years old.
Almost.
Well, in my mind, I'm 50.
It's one of the strangest I've seen,
and I'm slightly over 50 years.
And finally, well, it's the best segment in all of sports.
It's another episode as the committee met deep into the night.
Indeed.
of tears.
How is Marshall doing alongside Christmas
Star and Kevin Wise?
How's Marshall doing on the committee?
It's very odd, you ask.
Marshall sadly was out sick.
Oh, no.
So I had to do the names this week.
How was it?
They're not as good.
I have a way to save.
They're not as good.
I have a way to make tears better.
You almost said I have a way to save tears.
How dare you?
Tears is on the ropes.
How dare you?
Entered the ring with Mahomes Matlin, and it's like, this is going to be light work.
And next thing you know, he's on the mat.
I've got away real quick for tiers to be better as well.
For you to put 10% of the effort you put into your AI intros into tears when you're just reading it off a teleprompter with an old printer cord that doesn't even work.
The headliner blames the opening act.
Dusty and I were talking about new franchise.
before the show.
Oh, my.
We'll see.
This is a big one for tears.
They need a muscle win.
What?
It's a must win for tears.
We start again with the man on the mountaintop.
After his first four touchdown performance in ages,
Patrick Mahomes set to take on the prince.
And a very tough Jags defense,
Nick, are you expecting Patrick Mahomes to stay red hot?
He's back to the behind the back passes.
The, well, listen.
Might be old footage.
No, that's not an old footage.
Maybe it is.
Do I think they're going to score 37 again?
No, I would be surprised if they did that.
Do I think that the chiefs are going to look like the chiefs as they have since the tackle that turned the tide, obviously?
And so, I mean, you laugh.
Listen, you love throwing up numbers that Josh cooks up for you.
These are very simple.
Pre-imposed tackle to turn the tide.
He has been back to MVP caliber.
you can put them up whenever you want, but at this point
most of us, I assume I'm committed to memory.
Five touchdowns to zero picks,
a 120-something passer rating
after a really rough opening
10 quarters of the season. And so
it's not just that.
It's also that he has
the Jags are one of two teams
that he has played at least five times
and never lost two, the other being the
Niners. The Jags are a team
that there's Mahomes
against the Jags. Five and
O, 108 rating. One of those was in a
playoff game where he was unfairly maimed by a Jags defender and came back in.
But here's the most important one. The Chiefs simply have to not turn the ball over.
And they will beat the Jacksonville Jaguars. And Dust, we can, this is the Chiefs the last
four years. If they lose the turnover battle, they win more than they lose. If they don't,
If they win or tie it, they are 36 and 2.
The 2 are week one against the Lions where the turnover was a pick 6 and two years ago
and week one this year in Brazil.
That's it.
And the Jags have made all their money this year on forcing turnovers.
They have forced 13 through four games after forcing nine all of last season.
So take care of the ball and you win that game on Monday night.
I would be surprised if he doesn't cook.
Now, I'm not saying 300 yards and four touchdowns.
Last week, four touchdowns, almost 300 yards.
But I am thinking that 250-ish and three touchdowns,
I think that's very much within the realm of possibility,
and I think he'll be right around there.
And I'm not so sure how great this defense is.
The Jags defense.
Yeah, yeah.
Like you said they do.
They forced turnovers incredibly well.
At least they have thus far.
Nine interceptions leads the league.
13 takeaways leads the league.
But here's the quarterbacks they faced.
Bryce Young.
I'm sorry, Wiles, but he's struggling.
It's been a rough guy.
All right.
Jake Browning, who's been abysmal.
He threw three interceptions.
That game didn't even play a whole game.
I mean, to be fair.
Joe Burrell played a lot of it.
Joe Burrell started.
Yeah, but he played briefly.
A struggling CJ.
Well, the last two quarterbacks are two of your favorites.
Well, a banged-up Brock Purdy who showed guts and heart just by taking the field.
He was nervous.
Just by taking nervous.
He's playing in Super Bowls, Wilds.
You think he was nervous to play against the freaking Jaguars?
Well, I mean, he played.
He didn't play great.
But I'm saying the last two quarterbacks, though, are quarterbacks who respects.
But again, Purdy a little bit banged up.
We'll get to that later.
And CJ has been struggling.
And CJ has struggled.
And so you said it, Nick, if they don't turn it over,
and Mahomes doesn't turn the ball over generally, right?
He's got one interception this year,
and that really wasn't his fault that was off the hands of Kelsey.
So I expect him to play well.
I expect them to win.
And this defense, like I said, now you're facing the best quarterback in the league.
And I expect also Xavier Worthy to just get better.
I mean, that was his first game back.
So I think he'll be better.
What was his career high in yards?
No, it was career I am receiving your.
Receiving guys.
It might actually because he had a big rushing game too.
So I'm not sure, like, I know the narrative of like he's back.
But the narrative.
No, but he can do that again.
Okay.
I just don't know how much better.
If someone sets their career high, I'm not willing to say like.
But he started getting better toward the end of the last year.
Oh, at the end of the end of the year.
Stop it.
Prior to the Eagles game.
He was great in the playoffs.
He was awesome in the playoffs.
He was better at the end of the regular season.
season.
I'm saying the end of the year.
I know.
And the, this fly.
I know.
I'm going to kill him during the show.
I don't know if you're showing him on camera.
It's every.
I mean, KW.
But I would agree with you if his career high was if he had 190.
Yeah, it was like, he hasn't had a hundred yard receiving game yet.
Exactly.
But I want to ask you because I did this last Wednesday.
I have the perfect answer.
I'm ready.
And it caused, honestly, a brief.
in our relationship.
One of the issues is, okay, you are Mr. Consistency, and you have just a lockbox of takes.
I'm out here playing jazz.
I know.
So you were like, you said, I'm like, did I say that?
So, again, we're not rehashing, but so the audience understands the template of this.
Last week when we were talking about the Ravens having a terrible defense, I asked the question,
So wait, what if the Chiefs win but don't score a lot?
Like win 20 to 17?
That would be bad.
Will you come on here and say, ah, not that, you know, why couldn't you score?
And while I was like, no, that, a win against the Ravens is great no matter what.
I don't know if I said that.
Like you said, I have a lockbox of takes.
I promise you did.
Then they scored 37 and what did you do, bro?
He was like, ah, the Ravens are good.
Poop-poot it.
But now the flip side of that coin exists here.
If the Chiefs win, in a win, ugly, offensively, 1713, and the Jags defense, which we showed you the numbers yesterday, they have number one against the past,
force the most turnovers, I think fifth and points, all that.
If the Chiefs win 1713, are you going to come on here and say, great job?
It's just going to be a gut.
It's just going to be a gutty, ugly, ugly.
Kind of, eh.
That's what all of last year.
What I like to call, yes, a boa constrictor, Patrick.
That's what you're predicting?
That's what I'm predicting.
My homes are going to look at the graphic and say, Bryce 2, Browning 3,
CJ2, Brock 2.
If I don't turn the ball over, we win.
Fine.
So what do you throw out some numbers for Mahomes, yards, touchdowns?
221 in a touchdown.
Wow.
221.
You know.
221 is very specific.
I like 187 into it.
But I don't think like, I got.
You've got to take a shot.
Why so low?
Because I just don't think, I think it can be, it's a Jalen Hertz-esque game.
So I, I think it's just like.
Well, you think he's going to have zero completion?
You think that defense is that good?
No, I just don't think why take any risk?
For the record, you don't need to knock out.
He wants to throw deep.
I think so.
Not against this.
Yeah, I mean, I think that KW, you are likely describing at the very least the first half.
Like, no, no, no.
I'm not being.
No, no, no.
No, that's not what I mean.
I mean stylistically.
Yeah.
I think that I think that you are correct that the Chiefs will go into this game and say,
Vanilla, we're not going for fourth downs.
We're not putting the ball at risk.
We don't believe this Jags offense can go the length of the field on us consistently.
With that said, what I do think we might get to see from Patrick this year that we haven't seen really in the last three years is,
if they have a comfortable, not blowout, but comfortable lead,
if they're up 10 in the third quarter,
love it.
That's when they might start airing it out.
So you don't think they'll air it out?
Like, because at least so far, Jacksonville has been good against the run.
Oh, I think they'll throw a lot.
I think they'll throw a lot, Brew,
but I think it'll be that short stuff that we saw a lot of last year.
Just because I just think if they don't turn the ball over,
they're not going to lose.
He's gone deep every game.
Correct.
But they, but those games.
were games he was losing or the Ravens game a game where they thought they were going to have to keep up with the prolific offense this is a little different yeah I agree with we we're on
I'm saying two 50 I think no I think you just kind of 12 round decision just don't even break a sweat this is a big game fight you look normal this is a homes wants the light show that would be interesting if the very end you're like I'm going to air one out he wants the light show I don't blame him
meanwhile you got to get this stay with us for this story news out of Cleveland
Flacko's out, Gabriel's in, Shador's the same.
We'll still be QB3 when the Browns travel to London take on the Vikings Sunday morning.
Now, Shador was asked about the QB room shakeup and responded in silent pantomime.
So I'm about to throw it a sound, okay?
But there is no sound.
This is rough for our podcast.
I got to tell you right now.
So take a listen, which you can't.
Please roll.
Bro.
Your response to this non-soundbite and then what does this mean long-term?
The question was, what does this mean long-term before we sound?
Let me get to the sound or whatever that was.
He's young.
He's 23.
He's never been in this position before.
He's always been the star, superstar.
So I want to give him some grace.
And I like him.
So I'll give him some grace.
And his dad, his dad may have done something.
I mean, he didn't, but you know what I mean?
His dad is not politically correct in his answers and responses.
The difference is this.
His dad was a world-class Hall of Fame athlete, all right?
And everything Dion said, even as a coach thus far, he's backed up, okay?
Shadur is not that, even if Shadur becomes a good, very good quarterback, he's not his
dad. He's not in that class. And his dad wasn't a quarterback.
Right. Right. There's different rules. Fair or not. There's just different rules for
quarterback and everybody else. So someone needs to sit Shadur down and be like, like,
this is not professional. And this is not going to endear him to the Brown's brain trust or to
the other 31 teams. And that's the problem. Like, and I get it like Shadur, and this was obviously
based on last week
when he said I could play better than
some of these quarterbacks out there.
But
Sador, this is what he should have said.
When they ask him about Dylan Gabriel,
I'm happy for Dylan.
I hope he makes the most of this situation.
Even if obviously you want to be out there playing,
would you want to play?
Look, I have confidence in myself.
I think I'm a good quarterback.
Sure, I would love to play, but I'm not.
So I'm going to support my teammate.
That's it.
Just leave it at that.
So it's just a bad look.
It's not the worst thing in the world, but it's a bad look for a quarterback.
As far as quickly Nick, what it will mean for him, I think you'll get his shot.
It all depends on Gabriel.
If Gabriel goes out there and plays well and gives them a spark and they maybe win some games.
The defense obviously is very good.
Chador might not see the field if Gabriel's really good.
And then next year, I think they bring.
bring Shadour back as a backup, I would think.
If Gabriel, which is more likely, goes out there and is okay to bad,
struggles, you know, at times, then Shadour will get his shot.
And I think most people feel like this, I feel like this is what's going to happen.
At some point, Shadur will get a shot in several games.
He'll be able to start several games.
And so we'll see what he can do.
But, yeah, the interview amount of him.
Listen, this is.
This is perfect, actually.
I mean, it's, I agree with almost everything Bruce said,
but it's perfect because there is now just enough almost credibility
for folks that want to be like,
no matter what the kid does, you guys kill him.
Oh, yeah.
You know what I mean?
He comes out and says, what do you want him to say?
Of course, he didn't say anything bad about his teammate.
He just said, I'm better than, you know, some of these other guys.
And you killed him.
In fact, you know, some folks went on TV and said, shut your mouth.
And now he does that.
And you're going to kill him for that, too.
So there's an out.
That's out there already.
I think we have to just address that directly.
Yeah.
Yeah.
That was Rex Ryan.
So Rex Ryan eviscerated it.
Rex said, get your butt in the front of the classroom, kind of implied.
He's not doing his studying.
Stop talking.
All this stuff.
And so I do think this.
Here is my.
No, no fake news had on this.
This is just an opinion.
Here is my guess on what happened.
Somebody in Shador's circle was like, hey, you know what you should do next time they ask you anything?
Don't, don't say anything in a response to that.
Like this exact, like they're like, that'll be, that'll be clever.
And Shador is so charming all.
that like because of the smile or whatever, like, yeah, he does have like a vibe to him that makes him very likable and all of that, even when he's doing that.
But it's just the worst advice imaginable.
And I feel like he has gotten bad advice for the last nine months.
That's interesting.
And I hate it for him because I was not high on Chador, the franchise quarterback.
the prospect.
I was, but if you guys remember going into the draft,
all the criticism was about like Shador the person,
and I was on the island of,
I think Shador, the person's actually pretty great.
I think Shador, the player, has some holes that were overlooking.
And I still feel that way.
I think Shador is objectively a good kid.
I think Shador has dealt with having a very rich,
very famous father way better than most people I know
who had very rich, very famous fathers.
And I think that he is a good teammate too.
I think he's a hard worker.
I think these things.
I think he has been just led astray by whatever his media and interview training was.
Because clearly he did terribly at the pre-draft interview process.
And now how could an adult, I understand why.
a 25-year-old would think that's funny.
And it is like, again, like you said,
it's not a big deal,
but you just have to recognize the job
that you are applying for.
And the job you have,
right now the job you have is backup quarterback
in the NFL, which is maybe the only...
And it feels like you're hanging on for dear life.
Correct. Right. They just benched the starter
and didn't bump you up. You know what I mean?
This was a good opportunity to be like,
hey, Flacco is going to be, you know,
inactive third mentor.
You didn't even get bumped up there.
But what nobody has explained properly to Shador, in my opinion,
is in modern America, it might be the only job that exists
where being famous is a negative is backup quarterback in the NFL.
Every other job.
If you're applying to be somebody's IT pro,
it's like, by the way, I've got $3 million on TikTok.
I do funny dances.
It doesn't hurt you.
They might be like, oh, that's kind of cool.
It'll be good at the company party.
I'm going through every job.
Like, the only job where they truly don't want you to be famous is backup quarterback.
That's the job he has.
He can't help the fact that he's famous.
He could help the fact that he's given us no reason to focus on his fame.
And that quote last week, while I don't think, means, it's certainly not mean spirited,
and I think probably well intended was a misstep.
And this is silly.
This is silly.
And I think he's getting bad advice, man.
I definitely is getting bad.
I hope it wasn't in response to Rex Ryan.
Why?
No, I think it was just in response to.
I mean, Rex was the only one.
But the idea of like that he should be quiet and this is how it does seem to line up.
And maybe it's a coincidence.
But Rex Ryan has no.
a power in that organization.
Correct.
I think zero.
Yeah.
And his opinion,
now I sound mean-spirited.
I don't want to be.
No, but it's, but he's...
There's only a handful of decision makers.
Those are the only people you need to impress.
Correct.
And they probably live in Cleveland and they're in the building.
All the rest is, doesn't matter.
He's still...
He's still...
Our advice.
We've given him good advice.
He's still acting like he's that all-American college player,
where, you know, if,
If he was like a great NFL court rate, you could get away with that.
But no great, what great NFL quarterback?
I'm not saying what the number one pick of the draft just did.
The number one pick of the draft just did an interview was like, I'm going to keep it a buck.
We ass.
And everybody was fine.
Right.
But he was a starter.
I did not like it.
Yeah.
I didn't like that either.
No, but he's the number one big of the draft.
Like, you know what I mean?
We got a ride with you.
You get leeway.
Yes.
And that, and that is, that's the, I talked, I talked to Cam Newton about this.
literally yesterday before this came out.
And Cam has a lot of empathy for Shador
and a lot of feelings about
like when Cam was, you know, he felt
could have been a backup, but his aura
was too big, all that stuff.
But Cam Newton,
when he was, you know, growing that aura,
was the Heisman trophy winner, the best player
in college football, the number one pick of the draft,
the NFL MVP, took a team of Super Bowl,
all these things.
Shador is a fifth round pick.
Whether people think he should have been or not,
I think at this point, everyone acknowledges he shouldn't have been the number one pick.
He was not, you know what I mean?
And once you're not a top 10 pick, Jackson Dart was a first round pick.
He didn't start.
You know what I mean?
It took Russ, you know what I mean, playing himself out of it.
Like, if you are not a, forget top 100 pick, a top 10 pick, you've got to know how to play backup quarterback.
And that's been a tough spot for Shador.
Finally, Broncos fresh off of beating the Eagles, our head to Philly to take on the undefeated.
but strange game having champions.
Here's first year O.C. Kevin Petulow.
First of all, he said, it's a great problem, right?
Some teams don't have what we have.
So it is a great problem.
And really, the guys have been great with me.
I've been around here for a while.
So obviously, I know them a little bit differently.
But they all want to win, and that's the number one thing.
They all want to win.
They'll do anything for the team to win.
So, you know, whether it's somebody's getting the ball,
somebody's not, when you watch it at times,
There's guys being excited for other guys when they're making plays.
And that's all we can really ask for.
It's just like, hey, we all want to win.
We're on the same page.
We know it may be different from play to play or from game to game, but we want to win.
Okay.
Eagles this season are seventh in points with 27, 30th in yards, 30th in yards per play, which makes sense.
And our 31st in passing yards per game at under 140, which is very strange.
Can the Eagles offense get back on?
track. Can they against the Broncos? That's not the game I would expect. I would, you know,
I would expect them to be, rely on some short fields after maybe a Bo Nix mistake, rely on their
excellent special teams. And listen, that Broncos defense is legit. While I did not believe in
the Broncos going into the year, what I did believe in was their defense. And so I, I also think,
like, it is, these Eagles offensive problems are not simply A.J. Brown's unhappy. The offense
hasn't been good. The team's been great. The offense hasn't been good. And I'm going to three and outs,
which are a sign of a non-functional offense. We had, the chart that I had on Twitter yesterday
was not what Josh had. So we go with Josh's numbers because they're correct. So these are the
highest three-and-out percentages. And you see, so 29 of the teams are at under 30. So,
There's only three teams over 30.
The Eagles are at 34%.
But think about those teams, man.
The Saints with Spencer Rattler, who's probably not a starter.
And you know what I mean over the long term?
The Titans with that head coach and a rookie quarterback.
The Bengals with a backup quarterback and the Vikings with a backup quarterback.
It's a shocking step.
And the Philadelphia Eagles with Sequin, a great O line, Jalen, A.J. Brown, DeBonte Smith.
More than a third of their possessions, they go three and out.
It makes you.
What?
Go ahead.
It makes you think, doesn't it?
Makes you what?
It makes you wonder.
It don't make me wonder.
Hold on.
Let him finish his bit.
You don't think so.
When you see a graphic like this, you don't say, hey, what's going on?
You got it.
You got it.
I got it.
Bruce, like it does.
Everybody's right.
I know.
Go ahead, bro.
The hand ringing.
And you know what?
The rest of the league should be frightened.
I do like it.
They're not running the ball well.
They're not throwing the ball well.
We got a graphic that shows the difference in their offensive line,
which has always been their strength.
Look at the rankings at Burt Pied position last year versus this year.
So that offensive line isn't playing well.
And yet they are four and oh having beat Sean McVe,
the Kansas City Chiefs,
McVeigh and the Rams and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
And the Cowboys.
Spagnola and Todd Bowles are two of the best defensive minds in the league.
And without anything clicking, they're winning.
Like wait until it starts to click.
Yeah.
Philly Eagles, y'all shouldn't worry at all.
Don't let the hand-wringing get in your head because that's what they did two years ago with the supernatural funk.
It was the same thing.
I think you've got to throw the ball A.G. Brown.
They should. I totally agree.
I'm not that high.
For what I've seen from Petula so far, I mean, I'm not liking it.
What about the fake tush push?
That was nice, but they should definitely be throwing the ball more.
I haven't seen, you know what?
Intermediate passes.
You know how they see the different, like, silly things that are indicators of like,
oh, a recession is coming.
You probably know one of these things.
It's like dry cleaning, underwear sales.
Right.
It's like people are stopped doing certain things.
there is a direct correlation to how much trouble the Eagles offense is in,
indirect correlation, pardon me,
and how many Kevin Wilde's tweets about Jalen Hertz were getting.
It's a great take.
And we're in a drought, buddy.
What do you want to be?
Exactly.
You are slowly, and I'm here for it,
you are slowly pushing Jalen Hertz.
I'm not.
To this side of the table.
No, I'm not saying that.
You clearly haven't mentioned Hertz in a positive light in games.
What can he say?
And I'm singing his praises.
He's fifth on Bruce Ballet.
He had zero passing on a second.
Okay, okay.
I'm fine with it.
How can you be fine with it?
Keep listening.
I'm not dissing him.
Because there's more no having been three Super Bowl considers.
That's my whole thing.
It used to be your whole thing.
It's my whole thing.
But he's got a positive yard.
Yes, he does.
Who's going to beat him?
I don't care.
He doesn't care of me as 100 yards.
He's winning.
He's a winner.
He didn't care of him.
He's about winning, man.
You can't start the game with more yards than the end the game with.
You know what this is?
And I love him.
You know what this is?
No.
This is Jalen.
No.
He's way on my side now.
No, he's not.
Look at what I haven't got.
Some of my best guy, Anthony Edwards, Jodd.
Now, Jaylor, they're all for me.
Guys, you gave before.
No, I just hit zero yards.
What am I supposed to do with it?
They won the game over a undefeated contender.
Zero yards.
I have no defense for that.
He only.
through eight passes. There was a drive,
a three and out. I swear to the drive lasts
20 seconds. I stood up.
I got to drink a war. They did.
Hey, Jared, the podcast if you
get a chance. And there's a going to be
a, Gianna, when is, hey, what's going on
going to air Friday? You really?
I tried to make that a daily segment
on the show. You refused it.
It's because he wants to make it his
podcast. Hey, what's going on? Top three.
Wemby. I like it.
I'll give you a sneak peek. Wemby might be
seven foot seven. Yeah, we
You knew that?
Yeah, he keeps growing.
Too tall.
Cowboys.
Knicks come on my side on that.
Goal potential.
Oh, yeah.
Yeah.
Not after the first two years.
He's out.
Cowboys favored by less than a field goal against the Jets this Sunday at one on Fox.
Cowboys defense rough sledding.
40 of the Packers in a tie.
But Jerry Jones, optimistic.
Take a listen.
That's a logical way to go.
But I also get to have the benefit of looking at who's on the, who's coming.
who's coming. And we've got overshone coming. Frankly, 41 out there is playing lights out
and getting better by the game. And County has certainly had his opening game. So I see
help on the way to this defense. Okay. Let's take a look at the Cowboys report card this season.
Brew, do you want to go through it? B for a close loss to the defending champ, C plus,
Close win over coaches, Giants.
F, that's an F game, obviously, A minus.
Okay.
I feel good about those grades.
Yeah, you did them.
Do you expect that Cowboys have another A game?
No.
I do expect them.
I think they will probably win, all right?
They definitely should win, but I don't think an A game is coming.
An A game is another 40 piece.
The Jets are giving up 30 a game.
Okay.
All right.
It's Sauce Guard.
I don't know what's happened to the Jets' defense,
but for the second straight year, it's in decline.
Sauce Gardner hadn't been as good as usual.
An A-game coach would be 42-20.
That'd be an A-game, because that means your defense is starting to play better.
It's a high bar.
42-20.
That's what an A-game is.
31-17 wouldn't be an A-game?
He's a tough grade.
31-17 might be.
That's not a bad one.
31-17.
I'm expecting 31-1.
27. So that's, you know, a pretty good game. The Jets, they're just going to come out and give it there all. So I think we'll see a B game and the Cowboys win. Yeah, you giving them a B game for the opener against Philly, I thought it was a little harsh. I thought that was much better. It's an L, though. I get it. Compared to what expectations were. I thought that was a little harsh. What concerns me about this game is what you said. They definitely should win. So you feel that way, and you're probably not alone in feeling that way.
And Dallas shouldn't be feeling that way, but they probably are.
Do you think the Cowboys are good enough to be overconfident ever?
You know what I mean?
Like that, that go ahead.
I think that human nature creeps in.
And so they have the great comeback against the Giants or that back and forth against the Giants.
They pull it out.
They're tough against Philadelphia.
Now they go and play Green Bay.
Nobody gives them a chance.
They play it to a tie.
They play outstanding against that defense.
Their defense, you know,
There's different signs that you could count as encouraging in terms of production.
So now they're facing the Jets who everybody has written off.
And human nature unfortunately creeps in where you think you're a little bit better than you are.
And there is no margin for error with this team.
And the Jets are about as desperate as you can be.
So it sets up for one of those, it sets up for an F game.
Wow.
No, an F game.
It's on the table.
See, I...
Chicago ended up, I mean, they should have won that game.
Chicago's got a lot more offensive talent than the Jets.
Yeah, I agree with that, but they weren't playing well.
I don't know what's happened to the Jets defense because I do like Aaron Glenn.
I believe in Aaron Glenn, certainly as a defensive mind.
You know, obviously the door's still out on him as a head coach,
but I thought he had a lot of the prerequisites making good.
that defense is allowed 34, then 30, then 29, then 27.
So I guess it's trending in the right direction, one could argue,
but it's still, that is not what we expected.
I think the Cowboys, even though I am pessimistic on them over the course of the season,
I see no reason why they shouldn't be three, two, and one going into their game against Washington.
I don't know if we can throw up their schedule.
I do expect them to go to the metallands and beat the Jets.
And then the next week they have the Panthers.
And I think that they should be set up to where feel like we walk into that Washington game
with, you know, second place in the NFC East on the line.
Now, I think it could get quite hard for them after that.
Well, really?
I mean, Denver will be tough, but Arizona.
I think Arizona is the same caliber as them.
I think the Raiders are the same caliber as them.
and then every team they play after the Raiders until the Giants is better than them.
So that's what I'm saying.
Yeah, maybe.
We'll see what JJ looks like by that point in the season.
And so I think it could get tough for them later on.
But I do think Dak is playing some of the best football of his life.
And against a defense that hasn't played well and an offense that I don't trust at all,
it would take a total letdown in concentration.
Because I think this is one of the, the next two,
weeks might be the only two weeks left on their schedule where they are the more talented team.
You know, Arizona and the Raiders would be arguable, but where they are the more talented
roster. And the problem is if they, the second they start thinking that way, they're going to lose
one of those teams. Well, and I think they've been good. That's the thing. Like you said, should they
ever, ever be thinking, you know, we'll go in and win this game. The fact that for three straight
years, they won 12 games, most, you know, DAC and a lot of those other guys, I do think that makes
some susceptible to that because they don't see themselves like we and other people see them.
Right.
They've got the best offense and the worst defense through the first four weeks.
Odd combo.
The Bengals, we said could they be the poor man's bangles?
And that's what they've been.
Episode four of the Marlon Humphrey podcast dropped.
What's on the timestamps?
Glad you asked.
1314.
Should golf crowds get rowdy?
Good one.
38, 39.
Movies, expectations, and Marlon on Titanic.
about that a little bit. And at 26 seconds, his take on how good the Ravens actually are.
Take a listen. We are a good football team. Oh, we're not that good yet. The Ravens are one and
three. And I'll say this, we've been here before. And we'll come back, boys. I actually
personally, I've never been here before, actually, one and three. But that's okay.
That's my squad.
Are they a good football team or do they have two?
I do think they're a good football team.
You know, when they're healthy.
So, no, no, no.
Or even when Lamar is healthy.
So even without somebody are defensive.
I just wonder if they are right now a good football team or if they have,
and there's people like to think this odd coming for me,
just an all-time great player.
And I have questions.
Players.
Well, but one of them they're not using.
You know what I mean?
Lamar's an all-time great, and Derek Henry's an all-time great.
But Derek Henry, they don't want to give the ball to.
They push Buffalo all over the field for 55 minutes.
Yeah, that's true.
Like the team most people think will win the Super Bowl.
They pushed them.
And now it's on the board.
I didn't think of it at the time.
You may have mentioned it if I'm not mistaken.
Maybe that loss really messed them up.
more than we thought mentally.
I don't know, but even if...
The loss to Buffalo.
Yeah, the loss to Buffalo, the way it happened,
and they lost to Detroit in Kansas City.
Now, I know they look bad in the game against the Chiefs,
but I'm just saying those are...
Most teams in the league will lose to those teams.
And then they pounded,
not, didn't just survive the Browns,
they pounded the Browns.
So I do think there's still a very good team when healthy.
So, yeah, the podcast,
Look, to each his own and great players coach knows it's better than any of us.
Great players come in all stripes, you know, so that's how Marlon Humphrey is.
It's just different than I thought he was.
He's a great player.
You know, he's been pro, all pro twice.
Oh, you must not follow him on Twitter.
Yeah, I mean, like, yeah, seeing this, and it brought to mind, remember last year on the plane
when they had won their first game and he was filming Lamar, I think we have the video.
Oh, and Lamar got upset.
He should have been wild, but we need to get by it.
Yes, sir.
Yeah.
Yeah, like, he's silly.
And that's fine, because there's some great, but I coach, I don't see Ronnie Lott.
Ron Woodson, Ed Reed.
I don't see them doing this.
I'm just saying.
And Reed.
I'm just saying.
There's something on his YouTube channel.
It's called Pizza Crime.
Marlon.
Humphrey?
Yeah, horrible pizzas.
And he's, he's kind of a silly.
I thought of him as more of an intents.
intimidator and all that.
But he's not, but he's still a very good play.
Yeah, that's how he could play.
I didn't think I'd be saying this earlier than season, but I miss Mike's podcast.
Watching that makes me really nostalgic for Mike's podcast.
Good production quality of Mike's podcast.
Yeah, and I really, I really wish he would come back.
His was at least a little more serious.
Yeah, it was great.
And maybe that's part of why he's missing his mojo off in Green Bay right now.
One bad thing.
But if we could get that back, it's, we talk all the.
time the NFL about next man up because that's what you have to say and you have to project that
in the locker room and you have to you have to make sure that everybody feels like you have a chance to
win but the problem is when it gets to be next man next man next man next man next man next man up
and we're talking about five deep on a defensive group it not only affects a talent level it affects
the communication it affects the ability to adjust it affects the depth on special teams
there's layers that these injuries have on a team.
So do I think they're a good team when healthy?
Yeah, I do think they're as competitive as anybody else,
primarily because of Lamar.
But also, there's a lot of talent on that defense as well.
It's when you chop off this many layers,
it affects deeper than I think we anticipate.
I agree, but I also think there were pretty clearly some fun to
issues with this defense when healthy.
And I think that we saw that
for large portions of last year, and we saw it in week one.
You know what I mean? And I understand that
Buffalo is a great offense. I get that.
But we also haven't seen, we don't know yet what
Buffalo is going to look like against another,
against a team with a good or much less great defense.
We're going to have to wait and see for that.
Maybe this.
Sunday night. Maybe Sunday night.
But I think that Baltimore's defense,
It seemed like to me there were concerning.
I thought the Jaira Alexander signing in the offseason was a canary in the coal mine of they might have some problems.
And I said it at the time because I know some people liked him and he just hasn't been healthy for them this year.
So we can't really judge that signing yet.
He played in week one, but his sense has been like a healthy, unhealthy scratch since then it's weird.
But I just don't think teams that feel great about their unit go make that move.
And so I think that I think the rate.
I think it would be a mistake if you simply said it's just the injuries.
When we get healthy, we'll be fine.
I think they have some other problems.
They need to get better.
But I do think, include myself, we kind of overlooked their injuries.
Brute.
Look at that.
That's just an injury thing.
But after the 49ers beat the Rams.
With Mack Jones.
Watch out.
49ers Rams.
Rams favorite by seven.
Purdy, Pearsall, Juan Jennings did not practice.
Yesterday, we're still waiting for news out of San Fran today.
Purdy did have three turnover.
It was against that Frisky Jags defense.
Plus that five turnovers in the year through two games?
But he wants to be out there Thursday night, bro.
He wants to be out there.
Let's take a listen.
It's on pace for 41 turnover.
Quick turnaround, Thursday night game and everything.
It's just, it's tougher.
I don't have as many days to get right and heal up and feel better.
So just we're at.
You say not practicing today makes it.
more doubtful to play on Thursday?
Honestly, Thursday night football games are, you know, they come quick, so anything can happen,
but I'm so hopeful that I can.
Okay, I think this is a silly question to ask.
Are the 49ers better off sitting of Brock Purdy?
Do you think it's silly because it's obvious?
If he's banged up.
Yeah, I mean, he.
Mack Jones was like, they're the best defense.
I'm looking forward to playing them.
And they're like, well, first of all, I mean, to go out there, I said the same thing about Baker
when he was in Cleveland.
Now, he played through the shoulder injury, which I think was worse than this.
But Purdy had talked about how that toe, if you watched that game, a lot of his passes were high.
A lot of his bad paths were high, and the toe was affecting him with that.
He didn't say it, but that's what, yeah, they said.
So you didn't pay the guy $265 million to sit.
Thank you.
If he can play, like if he's healthy.
It's a starting quarterback, man.
Right.
And let me just cut to the chase.
Cut to it.
Right.
This is why there will be no quarterback controversy.
He's got, they got 265 reasons.
Jump in on that.
Million reasons why there will not be a quarterback.
It's not because he's better.
No, he's better, number one.
But no, he's better.
But you also paid him.
It's why Trevor's going to stay in the quarterback in Jacksonville.
We don't need that.
Every time we, every time.
Trevor has not been as good as Brock.
Gianna do a deep dive into our Brock Purdy segments on when he's having to struggle
when out of nowhere a non-secretor Trevor Lawrence shot across the bow comes in.
No, but look, I do think Purdy's better, but I'm just saying, really, the contract,
there was, there will be no controversy.
There will be no controversy.
So there's two, he's played two games, right?
And he's got two picks in each of those games.
So there's four picks now puts him at double the interception percentage he's
had over the course of his career.
Then he had the additional turnover.
That's with the toe.
Now they're playing the Rams on Thursday night,
who are fourth and take away, second in sacks,
top ten in court defensive categories.
So if he goes out there less effective than he's been in the first two games
where he hasn't been effective,
it could be a real problem.
In terms of preparation for this game,
Thursday night games are different.
You don't really practice.
You go out and he do glorified walkthroughs leading up to it.
So he can do all of that.
it says what kind of functionality does it have
facing a defense that can create a lot of problems for him.
KW?
You get a finger on the pulse?
My fingers on a pulse.
Buddy, if you show this tweet.
I'm not going to show the tweet.
Now, granted, I was just on social media
pulling up random tweets from random 49ers fans.
Yes.
And putting them in our group chat.
49ers fans?
Yeah.
It's like Tuscan Sue 84 says Brock Purdy.
Better watch out for Mac Jones.
The real McCoy, 85.
Okay, the real McCoy 85, not Tusk and Sue 84.
I don't check.
That's not how I judge.
I saw, I said, you know what, interesting point.
And he wrote, to be clear, we all know what's going to happen if Mac Jones has to play against the Rams and the 49ers win that game, right?
I said, hmm, that's interesting.
That didn't cross my mind.
I did retweet it and do the Jack Nicholson meme.
Yeah.
And then he's saying it's not fair, but it's going to be a standalone game.
and if Brock Purdy goes out there and turns the ball over, you're in a bad spot.
If Brock Purdy doesn't play and Mack Jones goes to 3 and 0 on the season with a bunch of guys injured,
you're also in a bad spot.
Can I tell you something, though, Brew?
That won't happen.
Are you rooting against the football?
No, no, no, no.
Well, he's not a Niners fan.
He's a Purdy fan.
For you, the best thing is Purdy doesn't play.
because Mac Jones
will not against the Rams
go out there and cook.
If he does KW,
there is no
Brewer and coach are correct.
There is no quarterback controversy there,
but your hope of Mac Jones
being a starter in the league again
becomes really, really strong
because then he'd have three solid performances
and one in a standalone game.
And you don't think at one point Kyle's like,
are you sure your toe is 100%?
No, I do think that, but when Purdy is healthy,
it's his job. The contract demands it and the fact, I'm not a purdy guy. Everybody knows that,
but he's better. I do believe, and I think everyone believes he's better than Mac Jones.
But this could be good for Mac if he were to play well. I don't think he'd be able to play well.
I think the other story is like, is Brock Purdy brittle? And the answer, like, we're getting evidence.
The answer to that might be yes.
Pillow alert.
It's this show that is kicking around Bill Belichick's potential job locations.
You missed it.
I was getting coffee.
Yeah, getting coffee.
What do you think I was doing?
You don't need to go outside to get coffee.
We have a coffee maker inside.
I was not going.
I never go outside during the show.
That's just not true.
You think I'm lying.
That's not true.
Our boss is here.
That cups empty.
It's not true.
I'm going to pour this piping hot coffee on you.
Post it up.
Coffee.
Is that what they call it about it?
Today.
Cheese Jags.
The guys are out of their mind.
Is Patrick Mahomes facing a must win against the prince?
Meanwhile, how soon will we see Shador?
And we get Coach Van Jeannie's reaction to an interview where Shador doesn't say anything.
Coach, have you seen this interview yet?
Yeah, it was great.
Okay.
But right now, of course, you're in for a real treat.
Aren't we all?
Last night, while devouring a delicious bag of candy corn,
an elite committee of savants, geniuses, and dipping sauce enthusiasts.
Just put them all over the table, just everywhere.
Get a handful of chicken sandwiches.
How many dipping sauces would you like?
Is that where I don't know, 75?
Five, why don't you go in the back and get a big thing of cardboard and just give it to me?
And then I'll bring it into the break room and scatter them about like it's Easter morning.
And we can all go in there.
Oh, look what I found, Dad.
Fought and toiled and burning a midnight oil to deliver the most definitive and fair segment in all the sports.
It's an honor and it's a privilege.
It's time for Nick's Tears.
There's too many dipping sauces, dude.
Let's just be honest, they're all over the kitchen.
They are still up there.
Why are they up there?
It seems very thoughtful.
Every flavor known to man.
I don't know what people like when I'm buying everybody lunch with my cheese gambling winning.
They're all over the line.
Trying to do the right thing by the staff.
As far as the committee, the committee has food catered and brought in.
And it's no dipping sauces and certainly none of your disgusting candy corn.
Now to the tier.
Sadly, another elimination this week.
Through four weeks, we are now up to four teams eliminated.
The Jets, the latest victims of elimination.
The Dolphins won.
No, but they already have been eliminated.
They had already been eliminated.
Listen, again, the committee's five year reputation
of never once having to un-eliminate a team
because they forced their way back into a playoff contention.
Maybe it can happen.
We have a spotless record up to this point of no premature eliminations.
That's very embarrassing.
So you don't have to worry about, we don't think you'll have to worry about it.
Those four teams eliminated this week.
One team facing elimination.
Be honest, I was shocked they weren't eliminated already.
The Panthers.
I was looking at the eliminated tears.
I was like, hold on a minute.
Panthers facing elimination.
They win.
They get to two wins, stay of execution.
A little offense, please.
Browns, Texans, yeah.
Giants. I like all of these defenses. I like the Giants defense, even when statistically it wasn't
showing it. I believed in the personnel on the defense. The Texans and Brown's defense, the
personnel and the stats. None of these teams need prolific offenses. They just need, don't turn the
ball over, and can we get to 20 points? You know what? That'd be great. Like 17 they might take,
but just 17 with no turnovers, they'd take it right now. It's why the Giants made.
the move for Jackson Darton.
That's why they get so excited over.
Cam Scataboo's exciting four-yard runs.
Like, I don't know.
He's in the end.
I like him, though.
The scataboo thing.
Save the podcast.
Next, but I like it.
Still want to believe.
Bengals, Raiders, Cardinals, Bears.
These are one or two win teams that you still want, for the Bengals,
it's like, man, we saw you be fine with Jake Browning before.
Yeah.
With Chase and Higgins, we saw it.
The Raiders, I believe in Pete Carroll.
Now, I do know he is now the oldest coach out in NFL history,
and I believe in General Smith.
I also know he's having a rough stretch.
Ashton Genty with his Michael Meyer stance, though,
oh my coach, you see him?
Offensive line has some issues.
Cardinals, I don't really want to believe,
one of the committee members from Tucson has kind of partial to Kyler.
They started off 2 and O, and the Bears get a bite.
relax, go play Jaden, open up that door.
Who was the best quarterback from that draft class?
Oh, maybe differing the opinions.
That takes on life support and not dead yet.
Next, potentially frisky.
Cowboys, Falcons, Vikings.
Cowboys, it's obvious, they have a great offense
so you're potentially frisky.
Falcons very up and, like, they got 30 to nothing by the Panthers.
Very next week came out and put 34 themselves on Washington.
I understand Jaden wasn't playing,
but that's not a defensive thing.
Vikings, I think it is hard to judge
until JJ comes back
and then even when he comes back,
they're probably going to have to lead with defense,
but you have a superstar receiver,
smart head coach, great defense,
potentially frisky.
Great coaches, a lot of issues.
Niners and the Broncos.
For the Niners, the issues are almost all injury related
at this point.
For the Broncos, the issues to me are that offense
despite Sean Payton dialing up,
cool stuff like he always does.
Seems like they've left a lot of meat on the bone as far as plays that.
Hey, it, it went, we got the coverage we wanted.
A guy's open.
We've got the look we want and you miss it.
But for the Broncos, they at least have a great defense to lean on.
For the Niners, they have almost a quarterback proof offense as long as not
to turn the ball over five times two starts.
I mean, it's hard to overcome that.
That's a lot.
I mean, maybe Patriot Steelers.
I want to start with the Steelers here
because I have been a skeptic
and either I said
and I took it from Brew or Bruce said and he took it from me
no way to tell at this point
that Aaron Rogers was going to lead Mike Tomlin
to his first losing season of his career.
Right now that doesn't look like it's going to be the case.
It was good.
Okay, now it's my take.
All right, no problem.
He's getting the ball out of his hands quick
and D.K. Matt Capp's been really good.
The Patriots, you know, it's eye of the beholder stuff.
you could look at it and be like, man, if you don't turn the ball over five times against the Steelers,
you're the team that's three and one, and Drake May is getting better and better.
Another way to look at it is they still just don't have a single offensive skill position player that scares you.
But maybe.
First, second, and third.
Three teams that quarterbacks were taken first, second, and third in their respective drafts,
who right now, for certainly Jacksonville and Seattle,
need those quarterbacks simply to look like players
who deserve to be taken first or third in their draft
because the defenses are really good.
And they'll be legitimate teams.
Washington is relying on their quarterback
being the reason they're a legitimate team,
but for any of those teams to move up the tiers,
they need their quarterbacks to play
like they deserve to be drafted, first, second, or third.
This is the Paul Rudd meme to, like, look at us.
Oh, yeah.
Who could have imagined?
Yeah.
Who to thunk it?
Cults and Ravens in October on the same line.
One of them's one in three.
One of them's three and one.
Who to thunk it?
The cults are not higher because of the belief of them,
lack of belief going into the year.
The Ravens are not lower because of the belief for them coming into the year.
And right now, my heart of hearts,
I still believe the Ravens with a healthy Lamar.
are obviously better than the Colts.
But I have no evidence for that.
From the 2025 season, there's no evidence for that.
But I know if next week they were playing and Lamar was healthy,
I'd pick the Ravens.
But the Colts, they are maybe an 80, Mitchell fumble away from being 4 and O.
And so, you know, credit where it's due.
You'll like this one, Coach.
Crowned a bit early, Packers and Chargers.
Packers, 2 and O, a guy who we just keep saying
they were talking about going undefeated because none of us even ruined.
Remember what that anonymous lineman's real name was, but he talked about it.
And the Chargers, you beat the Chiefs and you've arrived.
Since week two, though, they've dealt with more injuries.
They've stopped running the ball oddly.
Herbert regressed a bit.
Still really good teams, obviously.
But maybe not A-list top-tier contenders the way we thought.
Elite offenses, solid defenses.
Now, that's going to seem unfair to the Rams because they have elite defensive ranks right now.
I don't think they actually are going to have over the course of the year an elite defense.
But I think if you have an elite offense, which those three teams do, and you just have good defenses, you can get to a Super Bowl.
You can win a Super Bowl if your quarterback's playing well enough.
Collision course, same as it ever was.
Chiefs in the Bills.
Mark your calendars for the Arrowhead Invitational, which oddly this year might be held at Highmark Stadium.
But maybe that's just nice because it's the last game.
They're the two best teams in the AFC, and deep down, I think everybody knows it.
And atop the tiers, once again, mediocre at everything, but winning.
And that's a compliment, Philadelphia.
Like, you can't find a stat Philly's great at, except for the fact that they win all the games, and they played a brutal schedule.
Right.
Like, they didn't get to 4-0 the way the Bills did with one good team and then three cupcakes.
The easiest team they played Dallas, who's good.
Everyone else they've played, we think could make the Super Bowl in Tampa,
the Rams and the Chiefs.
And they're four and oh, despite not being great at, you can't, other than block
kicks, they're not near the top of the league in anything.
That is the week five tiers coach.
Come on, coach.
Come on coach.
It was pretty good.
Thank you.
That's it.
For him, that's like the highest grade.
That's like the dad that never says, I love you.
Like I, you did all right.
There's some of the crazy things.
Things we can build on here.
I, the love of Kansas City, I get it.
I get it.
But to have them above Detroit at this point,
I don't think is fair or accurate.
And one of the things that I was so concerned about
coming into the season was the two new coordinators.
And we saw it with Philadelphia,
but they chose to get new coordinators where Detroit,
their coordinators both left.
And then there's the what's going to happen,
how long will that transition take,
and we're seeing it happen,
it happened very quickly, where both the offense is responding and the defense is responding.
Started Nick's lies.
What's your quote?
The tackle that turned the tide?
Yeah, the tackle that started Nick's lie.
That's not that strong.
I mean, it's pretty strong.
Let's take a look at where they are statistically.
Let's take a look at the tackle, the turn, the tide.
These are, these are some of the general stats.
But I dug down, there's layers of stats where Detroit is better, whether it's time of possession.
And know what's interesting about Kansas City, too?
They're second in the NFL and drop passes again.
We're back to that.
We're back to that.
So I didn't even include that on my list.
But you look at the record, points per game, total yards per game,
turnover differential.
You go right on down the line.
Opponents points for game.
Yeah, I mean, it's close, though.
And to me, the fact that they have gone through that transition
where Kansas City didn't have any turnover like that,
and they're able to keep growing as the season's progressing.
because it should get better and better with familiarity.
So I understand you love Kansas City,
so you're going to bump them up after they get a couple of wins against opponents
that are a little bit overmats at that point,
and we're going to drop banners and all that stuff.
But this is too high for them at this point.
Who did the Lions beat the Browns this week?
The Bronze have, you can say what you want about the Browns,
but they did beat Green Bay, and they do have the best, arguably the best defense in the league.
And the Chiefs, you say the same similar thing about the Giants.
Giants did beat the Chargers and they have one of the best defenses in league.
But the difference is the Brown's defense has been consistently good throughout the season and caused problems for everybody.
I believe Brian Dable. I don't know.
Listen, listen, here is my, because you're right, the Lions have a more impressive statistical profile.
While I am not that moved by teams blowing out the opposing team, I think that can at times be overrated.
I am very moved by if you get blown out.
And the Lions, that week one game when they were annihilated, start to finish,
the Chiefs in their weakest moment, I don't think are ever down three scores.
Can I share an experience I had?
I know.
You guys traded away lawyer Malloy and you lost 30 to the, I bet the game in college.
You lost 30 to 3.
And then you ended up going on the longest winning streak in NFL history, you won the Super Bowl.
Yeah, yeah, yeah, I understand that.
Was that what you were going to say?
That's what you were going to say.
Lost of the bill.
I mean, I know it.
I know it doesn't matter.
It was week one.
But, you know, it's just something I have.
A standard definition era.
Go ahead.
Part of part of, part of.
Well, if we can put tears back up.
If it's not the, if it's the standings.
It's not standing.
Then okay.
But if it's not the standings.
Then let's switch.
Green Bay and Tampa Bay.
Because you have to be careful with records early.
I agree.
Because it's bad teams.
Some teams are beating bad teams like Tampa Bay.
Some teams are tying bad teams.
They beat Atlanta, which is two and two.
They haven't beat a team with a winning record yet.
Houston, one in three, and the Jets are 0 and 3.
All right.
And then they finally play an elite team.
and they're down 24 to 6 at halftime.
Oh, they rally.
And then what happens?
Baker Mayfield, who I like,
throws and enters his first pick of the year.
To end the game.
No, that, no, he's saying another drive.
But it essentially ended their chances of a comeback.
I think that's fair.
Now, if Jordan Love, because I'm saying switch to Packers and the Buccaneers,
if Jordan Love did that.
He did do that.
Two weeks ago?
He would be pillory.
He did do that.
And he was pilloried.
But Baker, now, did Jordan Love lead the league in interceptions last year?
No.
No.
What the?
It was Baker.
This isn't.
So Baker has led the league in interceptions last year through a game ending interception.
And he just passes on.
That's why he wasn't going to move out.
No, but that, but it is your quarterback.
of these teams.
I'll get to the rest of the stuff.
All right.
So J-Lo, in fact, I'm still here.
Let's see.
Because quarterback is such an important.
This is not the mountain.
Jaylo has Baker beaten by a mile in everything except T.D.
Interception.
And that's even.
All right.
So the quarterback is playing better.
I give Baker credit for the comebacks, but they were against bad teams.
And he hasn't been playing great like all games.
games the entire.
And then the defense.
The Packers have played, you know, they got a great win.
Tampa Bay does not have a great win yet.
And yet Green Bay's defense is rated a little bit higher already playing a tougher schedule
than the Buccaneers.
So I think Green Bay, that last week, trust me, trust a brother, was an aberration.
They went in there.
They were like, man, we're going to.
to stalk the Cowboys.
FICA's going home, he's going to have eight sacks.
I know, but that's not a positive.
I know, but they took them lightly.
Brew.
How could they take them lightly after they lost the Brown?
Here's what happened.
You said, what happened previously.
Here's what happened previously.
They were allowing 13 points against.
Yes.
Having played, they held the number one scoring team in the league to 13 points.
21 below their average, that'd be in the Detroit Lions.
Okay.
Can I?
We've won.
That's fine.
Week one counts.
That's that.
I'm right.
Week one was that preseason?
No, let me tell you a story of the Patriots fan.
Hold on.
Oh, about week one.
That's the story.
Patriots went up to Buffalo.
Just traded lawyer Malloy.
No, that's the story.
That's a good story.
Tell us more.
Can I?
What happened?
Can I respond?
Watching the game with my buddy,
I want to hear what in the world you're going to say about this.
I am flabbergasted that you want.
You think the Packers after the last, it's not the standings, but the last, we played four weeks.
Yeah.
Two of the four weeks have been objectively, wildly disappointing performances.
And you want me to move them up.
They, week one, they were unbelievable.
Week two, they were excellent on the Thursday night when we were landing in Kansas City.
Think about Halpe Brew.
And then since then, they have had an F game trademark brew.
And then a D-minus game against the Cowboys.
Every elite team in the league has had bad moments.
I understand, but it's half their season.
You know that.
They played four games.
Two of them have been awful.
Tampa, but I'm just saying, I didn't say move them to the top.
I said move or even close.
I said switch them with Tampa.
Tampa needed heroics to beat three bad teams.
And then they play a good team and get slapped off.
At least they didn't tie any of those bad teams.
A tie is better than a loss.
I'm not hating on a tie.
But no, but they didn't lose, Brew.
Brew, is a tie better than a win?
You said the Tampa Bay needed heroics to beat bad teams.
Yes.
The Packers have one of the best offenses in the league.
Oh, my God.
The Cowboys lost.
You know this.
Okay, go ahead.
I don't think he agrees.
I'm back.
Guess what?
This Sunday night,
All the eyes of the football world will be looking at Buffalo.
And the Patriots, yet again, are on the doorstep of destiny.
This is not a thing.
We're on the doorstep of destiny.
Tackle that during the tie is not a thing.
Tell that to my tattoo.
Doorstep of destiny is definitely a thing.
You said this about Drake May yesterday.
Well, Drake May is the quarterback of the team of the doorstep of destiny.
Now the team's also on the doorstep of destiny.
Drake May is just like they're leading everybody.
on the doorstep of destiny.
So how the Patriots doing this season, Wilde?
So are you just like a fan of the Patriots?
Because isn't James Cook just gonna run all over
the Patriots defense?
I don't think so.
Our defense is good.
Tied for 10th, it's not great,
but still 20 points a game.
I'd like to get that under 20.
It feels better.
And nobody can run on us.
We're actually pretty good.
Only giving up 78 yards per game,
tied for second.
Only two touchdowns, which I was shocked by.
Now, Granted Aaron Rogers threw some in there,
but still.
Great defense. So I'm James Cook will be somewhat neutral. And I know what you're thinking. What about Josh Allen? Josh Allen's excellent. The coach, I don't know what to make of this graphic, but I put it through the something or nothing machine and it pumped out something. Since Brady left. When to get, no, it doesn't. No, it doesn't. No. So since Brady left, it's like Josh Allen owns the Patriots. Six and one, all the stats are great. Since 2023,
Look, still two and one, but all the numbers are down.
Passer ratings way down, turnover's way up, total yards way down.
Maybe it's just the way the bill's decided to play.
Maybe it's Patriots specific.
Maybe it's like, maybe we've seen a lot of this guy.
We can throw a lot of different things at him and maybe something will work.
And finally, as I've mentioned several times in a storyline that is going to pick up some steam as we head towards Sunday night.
It's revenge season for Stefan Diggs back in Buffalo.
Highest completion percent.
What a union.
He's in two great relationships.
Highest completion percentage by a quarterback wide receiver duo this season.
This reminds me of like Kelsey Mahomes type stuff.
Just great duos.
Close your eyes and think of it.
Wow.
Wow.
Something.
That's something too.
Go, can I just make, put the tears back up if we could.
Move us up a little bit.
Where?
We're on the door step of destiny.
There you go.
You almost saved it at the end.
We're on door to step to death.
You are.
Just right up to?
Hold on.
Hold on.
Hold on.
You told me that.
Hold on.
You are turning into a bad teammate.
How so?
You are not staying within the conceit of the segments.
Yesterday for the Drake,
thing. You didn't, the whole idea of the mountain, take this guy, put him here, put this guy there.
Instead, you just gave us three minutes of a love letter to Drake May and then you were done.
The whole idea of tears is this team is improperly ranked. You just gave us three minutes
on the, why the Patriots are going to beat the bills. That's, you just, just did your
upset alert for this week. You could just run it back. It has nothing to do with, who do you
want to. What? What? We do we think it. What?
good. We're great. I'm just letting everybody know
we're on the doorstep of destiny. It's great. It's all going
to happen on Sunday night and be like, wow, do you are right? If it doesn't happen
on Sunday night, there is a one week ban
for this show on the Patriots.
That's fair. Okay, we'll talk more about the Jets. How about that?
Back in Ann Arbor, Bryce Underwood and the Wolverines up against the Wisconsin Badgers who desperately need a win.
Maybe next week.
Oof.
Party starts at 10 and then big noon kickoff, real kickoff starts at noon.
Some of people are saying for the Badgers, Luke Fickle.
Hot seat, must win?
Oh, speaking of, we are in an unbelievable.
moment in this show where all three of you guys have one win apiece.
So it's a must win for everybody here.
Brew won the last match.
That's crazy because we've done four of these.
Greg won one.
Oh, okay.
Apologize.
One win Texans now favored in Baltimore over a Lamarless Ravens team.
Here's how the numbers shake out, Brew.
Houston's offense, terrible.
Ravens defense terrible.
But if you beat up on them, you do deserve credit.
I just want to put that out there.
Through you one last week, so the board is yours.
You can choose to pass or play.
And with the additive, you can decide who you want to go first,
knowing that it goes clockwise.
I will play.
Oh.
This is what has turned into the not so rare double muslin.
Right off the bat.
All right.
Strong play.
Let's start with the Texans.
Great.
Obviously, the record, the standings.
Indianapolis and Jacksonville are starting to move away.
from them.
So there's that team morale.
There's that.
And C.J. Stroud.
All right.
You lose to Cooper Rush against a defense that has played poorly all season and is without
seven starters.
That would pretty much make it official that you have fallen off.
This sophomore slump is turned into, hey, what's going on?
Oh, wow.
All right.
And then let's turn.
No, don't.
Let's, I got more.
I know, but sometimes you stick it and then you.
I know, but I'm going to stick it again.
We got the Raven side.
No, we don't.
All right.
Same thing.
Record standings, team morale.
And you know what else?
What?
We can't fit an ambulance in here.
Where am I going to, what am I going to do if they lose this game?
Not bad.
All right.
Just give me the point.
Let's just move on to the next.
You got it.
Y'all are even going to go?
That was great theatrics.
But this is a must bust out the leather helmets and the Oklahoma drill.
That's what this is.
So the Texans are 12th in the league in stopping the run.
But I looked at it and I said, Derek Henry, what are his best games?
So if we go back to January 3rd, 2021, his best game ever was against the Houston Texans,
where he ran the ball 34 times for 250 yards.
yards, a 7.4 yard average, and this game is going to beat that if they do it the right way,
and he'll lead Baltimore to victory.
Coach, I thought that was great.
A lot of numbers.
A lot of numbers.
Yeah.
Really?
Numbers against the team to play?
Coach, I thought it was great.
Sadly, however, it's not the right answer.
Sadder than that, I obviously am the show's chief's guy.
I also oddly kind of became the show's Bill's guy last year.
Have I now just become the Ravens guy?
Because I don't think it's a must win for Baltimore.
I think if they lose without Lamar and fall to one and four,
I still think they can win the AFC North.
I still think they can pull themselves out of it.
Houston, on the other hand, this is a must win.
They're not pulling themselves out of one and four.
Their season is over.
If they lose, you lose to the worst defense in the league
with a backup quarterback.
Who the hell are you beating other than Wild Tennessee?
Titans. No offense, buddy. And so like the Ravens, if they lose this game, I don't know about
Peru. I'm going to come in here Monday and say they're okay. The Texans they lose this game.
They're done. So it's not a double must win. It's a traditional must win only for Houston.
Excellent answer. Coach gets the points. What? Leather helmets. Yeah, he went back into the
archives. That was cooking. You shouldn't have gone first because if you did the numbers first,
and then you did the flare, you probably would have stolen it.
Cowboys taking on the winless jets, which team, here we go.
To Bruce's credit are close to not being winless.
Ball breaks a few different ways.
It might be okay.
Here is the, oh, we mentioned this earlier.
Check this out for the Cowboys.
You want to be happy about the Cowboys.
Best offense, worst defense, which we usually.
Oh, that's just for the first four weeks.
four weeks.
I was going to say, when did the Patriots have the worst defense?
This century.
Yeah.
You love century.
Josh, why don't you just go bigger to be the same same data set?
You're very antagonistic.
Why don't you go millennia?
You can't.
Can we do millennia?
It's the same.
It's the same data set.
In any event, this bodes well for the Cowboys, but obviously those defenses got better.
Jets are still looking for their first win.
Coach, the board is yours.
Must win.
This is a must change.
the same old Jets narrative.
And you look around at the New York media,
and they're killing Aaron Glenn.
And they're talking about all the problems that they have.
And being a first-time head coach in New York is tough.
Not everybody goes to playoffs when that happens.
But they're killing them.
And if you're going to change the narrative,
you're going to have to start.
They've got the 10th most penalties with 32.
They've got the second most dropped passes.
They drop 9.3% of their passes.
They've got the most mistackles in the NFL with 45.
They've got the worst giveaway takeaway ratio with minus seven.
They're the only team in the league that hasn't generated a turnover,
and they're second in the league in the most giveaways.
So if you want to change the narrative,
you're going to have to start with the basics,
and they better start changing the narrative
if they want to have any chance to climb out of this hole.
And there's only going to be so much patience in New York
for people to say, oh, we're close, we're close, we're close.
Can I ask you a quick question?
Sure.
That will not count for the points.
Aaron Glenn, the guy fumbled the, was it, I don't know if it was a kickoff or a punt, and Aaron Glenn caught him.
And it was like, ooh, wow, he's running a tight ship here.
And then, but all of your, that didn't seem to have any effect.
Not like cutting one guy would have a huge effect, but it felt like that was a sign of the team that he was running,
but it hasn't showed up on the field otherwise.
Yeah, it's.
So what's he supposed to do?
Well, well, the cutting can send a message if you're cutting someone of significance and if there's teeth behind it.
But these things, there's pre-snap penalties.
miss tackles, all of these things are inherently in their control.
And so I'm not sure where the disconnect from the message to the practice field is,
but there obviously is a disconnect.
And there's only so many guys you can cut when they make a mistake.
But when you lead the league in mistackles and you're, you know,
you've got this many penalties and your second league in drop passes,
you can't cut everybody.
That will count to the point.
Okay.
Listen, I think the cowboys are who they are.
I think they've shown it to us with the Giants and the Packers game.
They can lose to anyone.
They can beat anyone.
I understand they did end up beating the Giants.
They could have easily lost that game.
Packers game they tied.
Like the Cowboys are just going to go as far as DAC takes them,
and that means they can lose this game and win this game.
It's not going to have any impact on who they are for the year.
The Jets, on the other hand, have to figure out can the defense be competent?
Because when you sign Justin Fields, the only way that works,
is with a competent defense.
The most jarring stat in the NFL at the moment is this.
Justin Fields has played 25 games in his career.
You don't like this?
I saw it yesterday.
You don't think it's anything?
I thought it was unfair.
What?
Can we hear the stat?
Sorry.
I didn't mean to jump your stat.
There have been 25 games Justin Fields has started
where his defense did not hold the opposition to 20 or under.
They are 0.25.
He has never once won a game as a starting quarterback where the defense didn't hold the opposition to 20 or less.
So if he's going to be your quarterback, you better have a kick-ass defense that can then lean on his rushing ability
because he's not going to be able to participate in even a cap gun shootout.
I didn't want to undercut your stat.
Okay, well, you just said you hated it and you slumped in your chair.
So I think good job's done.
I didn't mean to.
But I saw that because I was doing this podcast with Gianna,
and it was going to be number three on my, hey, what's going on list?
Sounds like a great podcast.
It, like, went through those games.
He lost one of the games, like, 38 to 40.
Okay, so that, yes.
It was like, there was some that, like, I read it first,
and I was like, oh, and he's losing stuff 35, 37.
Yeah, I don't, I don't think there's a lot of those, KW.
I think it's far, I don't think it's an unfair number.
I agree with you.
There were games with the Bears.
where he did lose shootouts.
Yeah.
But it's not unfair to say he's literally never won a shootout.
He's never won a mid-scoring game.
Feels very antagonistic what you're doing right now, Nick.
I don't play favorites of the joke.
I don't even think so much win.
Let me go ahead and say it's a must win for the Cowboys and not the Jets.
All right.
Wow.
The Cowboys coach, they are in the rare position where there are no expectations.
All right, nobody's thinking S Bob anymore, even though they got the highest paid quarterback in the league in his prime playing great.
All they have to do is make the playoffs and they're going to throw up figuratively a parade in Dallas.
Not literally.
All right, not literally, but figuratively they will throw a parade if they can get to the playoffs.
This is beyond a winnable game.
They got the momentum from a tie.
From a tie they have momentum.
So they have to keep it going.
For the Jets, we know what the Jets are.
The season is over for the Jets.
This is now about changing the culture.
That's all this is about.
Yeah, I know.
And I've got a message for Jets ownership.
Dan Campbell, who was Aaron Glenn's boss a year ago.
Don't panic.
Don't read the back pages.
Don't worry about what the fans are saying.
Dan Campbell started 010 and 1 in Detroit.
They won three games this first year.
And look at them now.
So if Aaron Glenn goes four and 13 and everybody's saying fire him,
hold your position and keep him because good things are around the court.
He hired the last guy after what week four last year?
Yeah.
What was that?
I'm saying it's pretty pretty crazy.
Yeah, I'm sorry.
Energy like pizzazzed.
None of that gets a wake up.
This is the,
I'm misreading the judging.
This is a bonus round though.
Chiefs Jags.
Monday night.
Two show favorites, and Nick, you get to kick us off here.
Career head to head.
We've seen this a lot.
Mahomes undefeated against Trevor and dominates in pretty much every category,
not pretty much, literally every category.
Odd question here.
Must win?
Listen, I don't know if the judge wants pizzazz, as Brew put it.
This is a bonus round.
Codian analysis, pardon me.
Stumbling.
I've lost points.
I've been dot points for stumbling.
I'm just saying.
Literally, coach, it's crazy.
This is not a muscle.
Or either team.
What a take.
The chiefs will be fine.
The Jags will be fine.
The Jags are going to win the AFC South,
even if they lose this game.
And the Chiefs,
if they lose this game,
are still the Chiefs.
It will be a great test
to see if the Chief's offense
can keep on the roll it is
and see if the Jags can punch up in weight
glass. But this is
an A-List A-LISC
contender and a B-List
A-FC contender. They'll both be fun.
The rare double, not
must, right unprecedented
in show history.
Must win for Jacksonville.
The Chiefs are indeed
the Chiefs, win or lose.
But if you haven't noticed over the past couple of weeks,
the prince has all of a sudden become,
not even just Trevor, Trevor Lawrence.
Like there's nothing there.
There's no affection.
There's no history.
He's just another quarterback.
The way to get back in Nick Wright's Good Grace is for the Prince.
It's to beat the Chiefs.
I got to tell you, Brew.
He will give him love.
You don't know me well.
That is not the way to get back in my good.
Nobody's going to think the Chiefs are done?
It's the vaunted double must win for Nick Wright,
where the Chiefs win and the Prince plays well,
so he gets to go back to his take that the guy's good.
I've got the wig on standby at any point of time.
Excellent takes, as always.
And in a shocking turn of events,
Nick Wright takes home.
The must-win.
I knew it.
I knew the no-mus-win would get it.
The double don't need it.
You know what I wanted to see?
I wanted to see a Travis Hunter.
must play well. What's going on?
Bus alert. Hey.
I wish we had gotten it. What's going on?
Saturday, ALDS on Fox and right
here on FS1. Look, we put the Red Sox in
already playing the Blue Jays.
Well, the Yankees are graphic too, buddy.
Because one of them is going to be there.
Yeah, but probably the Red Sox.
Or you might see Aaron. Judge. Prime performance,
sponsored by Liberty Mutual Insurance. Only pay for what you need.
That makes sense.
Browns, Bench Flacco.
You're going to start Dylan Gabriel against the Vikings.
Shador, still at third on the depth chart.
He was silent today, but he did say something, but he actually didn't say anything.
Take a non-listen, coach.
Vocally, anything to say?
Coach, did he love that?
It's great.
I don't think he's a bad kid, but he makes bad decisions.
And it's, he's in a really great position right now.
So Dylan Gabriel's going in.
He's got to play overseas.
He's got to play against the Minnesota Vikings.
They pressure 35% of the time.
It's complicated reads.
Who knows how good he's going to be.
And Chador is going to be bumped up sooner rather than later.
The owner obviously was part of drafting him.
He wants him bumped up.
People want to see him play.
But when you do things like that, it's just, it's counterproductive.
it causes headaches for everybody in the building
because now the head coach
is going to have to talk about this.
He's going to have to talk to the owner about it.
He's going to have to talk to the GM about it.
He's going to have to talk to the kid about it.
Everybody else is talking about it.
And it just screams, I need attention
when he can get a lot of great attention
by when he gets his opportunity on the field.
And again, I don't think he's a bad kid
and he seems pretty likable personality-wise.
You just don't, and I get it.
He's had a ton of attention.
throughout his career.
And he's probably in a really strange place,
being a backup and then being the third string with Flackobey.
I get all that.
But at some point, this business part of it,
this like living in this other world,
it's part of being an NFL player.
So I want to ask you a question.
Don't derail yourself.
So last week, you know, he gave the comment.
I don't even know the question he was asked,
but he gave the comment of, yeah, listen,
And if you watch quarterbacking around the league, I think I'm better than a lot of those guys.
Rex Ryan then eviscerated him on TV.
And one of the things, you know, he's basically implied he wasn't studying, but also said he needs to keep his mouth shut.
Or either shut up or keep his mouth shut.
A lot of people, myself included, think this is in response to that.
If you were advising Shador after that Rex thing happens, like, hey, the media might ask you about it, might ask you about this.
What would you have told him to say?
I don't mind that he feels like he's one of the best quarterbacks in league.
Like I don't think that's a character flaw.
I would want my potential quarterback to feel that he's one of the elite players.
That inner confidence has got to drive me.
He got drafted in the fifth round.
He's been a backup.
He's in a whole different type of situation.
And the confidence to me is not problematic.
Do I think putting it out there is necessarily the best thing?
No, but that bothers me a lot less.
than creating an unnecessary news story in the middle of the week
that doesn't help you at all.
And you're going to get an opportunity.
And when you get that opportunity,
just put yourself in the best position to take advantage of it.
Well, I'll talk about when we might see Shadour,
because I think we'll see them.
You said it, Coach Minnesota, you would think Flores is going to be tough on Dillon Gabriel.
Pittsburgh's defense is starting to improve.
Miami's, you know, playing all right.
these are their next four games,
and then New England,
which is playing pretty well.
So if Dylan struggles in those games,
there's a buy after that,
it'd be perfect to push Shdura.
I think they're going to give Gabriel a long run.
Yeah, I was going to say that would be seven weeks,
potentially of Shadur.
Although I guess if Dylan's struggles in these games,
you could play Shadur coming off the buy,
and then it kind of maybe it goes back and forth.
I don't think that works.
I think they're going to give Gabriel a long run.
I don't think this runway is going to be that long.
Okay.
I think it's going to.
Because I imagine that the owner is going to say if Dylan goes in and doesn't do well,
he's eventually going to be like, I don't want to see Flacko again.
Put the other kid in.
Let's see what we got.
Live from New York, it's a show that has breaking news out of San Francisco.
It's not great news, and we're going to discuss it in one second.
For some people.
No.
What?
It's what?
It's terrible.
terrible.
Oh, you're excited.
No, I'm not.
Wow.
What an allegation.
Well, I mean, I, look at the smile of this face.
I'm not excited.
Listen, man, preparation is opportunity is preparation meet something.
This is a tough spot, though.
That's an understatement that is a tough.
So very impressive if he won.
Yes.
We discuss in a second.
First thing's first.
O.T.
Today, a fresh edition of quarterback quarterly.
Danny does this four times a year.
That's the plan.
Yeah, I've only done it once so far.
Every four weeks.
So it's going to end up being five times.
Yeah, it'll end up being five times.
Yeah, it was all year.
There was a preseason and then each quarter mark in the season.
Exactly.
Yeah.
I like the name.
Yeah.
Quarterback quarter of.
Yeah.
Do we have universal name of people?
There's a lot of alliteration.
Yeah.
Yeah.
What's I'm saying?
Danny's top 10.
It's top 10 Tuesday.
Yeah, that's all.
Danny's doesn't.
Well, is it Danny's doesn't?
No, he wants to be Danny.
Keep going.
This is what I like.
The other ones have some good ideas on.
Case closed, do you mean?
Clark Hunt joins the show to talk about the Chief,
so welcome Clark Hunt.
That would be awesome.
That's an owner.
Yeah.
I don't hear much from him until they win the Super Bowl
and he gets his trophy.
You know, the little here and there to interview.
Well, he certainly doesn't cause any distractions.
That's for sure.
No, he's just,
Brue just used that to take a not so subtle shot at Jerry Jones.
You know, hire and right people and let them cook.
Yeah.
I think that's, I think that's a fair change.
News out of San Francisco.
Purdy out.
Ricky Pearsall.
Out.
Joanne Jennings.
Out.
Mack Jones.
In against the Rams who are favored by more than a touchdown.
Danny, we will start with you.
Can the 49ers, the department.
pleaded 49ers actually win this game.
I don't think so.
This is a real tough spot.
And I know you guys were joking about it.
But if Mack Jones does play well in this spot, it will be awkward.
They will go back.
They will go back to Brock Purdy because of the money.
Like that is objectively.
That is objectively true.
But you don't think that there would be like some level of second guessing within the organization of like,
did we really need to give him $250 million if Mac Jones can perform at the level that he is expected to?
Well, that's the, that to me is, and this has always been the interesting, there were hypothetical of what if a guy like Mac Jones got dropped into the Niners?
Yeah.
And now again, last year it happened with darn, or was it two years, two years ago?
But he was one game, right?
Matt, we'll see how long.
No, correct.
And so it would have to be more than this.
But this is not, this is not Mac being dropped in to the Niners.
It wouldn't be for Brock either.
You know what I mean?
Kittles still out.
The receivers are gone.
It's McCaffrey, who they, by the way, I want to be on the record about this.
I will feel badly for Christian McCaffrey, but I will not feel like the Niners got unlucky.
if later this year McCaffrey missed his time
because they are running him into the ground early in the year.
Like they are not treating him like he is.
But what do you do?
You know what I mean?
Like, I don't know.
I hear you.
His workload is crazy.
I would try to split carries a little bit more.
But to answer the question,
I don't think the Niners can win this game with either of the quarterbacks.
I think that the Rams are flatly a better team.
I agree with Danny in this regard.
and this is where, you know,
this is the manor from heaven for you.
Because if the audience doesn't know,
they're back of the quarterback's,
Mac Jones.
While Purdy's job within the building
would not be in question,
there would be a lot of noise,
whether it be from some fans,
local media, whatever it is,
if, you know what,
if Mac wins this game,
and then I forgot who they play next.
Like Purdy's healthy comes back and lose.
You know what I mean?
Because Purdy was not great in week one, brew.
He had the drive at the end, but he had the turnovers and then had turnovers in week four, and he's coming off a bad year.
I think these toe injuries, they seem silly just because they're your toes, but I feel like they are more severe than anyone gives them credit for.
If Mack Jones pulls this off, it will be noisy.
I do think this is more of a Robert Sala game.
Can Sala cook up something to stymie McVeigh, to stymie McVeigh, to stymie.
I mean Matthew Stafford, and I think it'd be less awkward if Mac Jones does sort of a bare minimum, don't turn the ball over a game.
Sure.
No, that's the path.
I don't think he's lighten up this beat.
But for your purposes, you need him to cook.
You're right.
If they win 17, 13 and Mac Jones throws for 220 yards and maybe one touchdown, one pick or whatever, that's not going to change anything.
But I do agree, as much like Purdy, outside among fans.
there will start, if Jones cooks and wins, there would be, begin a clamoring.
But I think within the building, it's just what, two games it would be or three games
for Mac Jones.
So it's not enough.
No, it's not enough.
But the only thing that Purdy would have to hang his hat on is that they paid him.
Like that this is, and this is, I'm not trying to, you know, I've been wrong about plenty
of things.
But I was pretty adamant all summer that I did not, it might be unfair to me.
Mac. He got you to, I'm sorry, to Purdy, got you to a Super Bowl, he'd been making no money.
I did not understand why they would pay that player coming off his worst year when he had a bit
of an injury history before they had to. And right now, if they had the opportunity, four games
into the contract, if they had the ability to be like, hey, every NFL team once a year before
October 5th gets to undo a deal they did and be like, nope, it didn't happen.
They would definitely do that, right?
Right now this moment, do they already regret the Purdy contract?
I wouldn't.
Now, I think if you want to talk about the injuries, I don't think his play,
now I know he's got four touchdowns, four picks,
but I don't think they're like, is he really not that good?
Like, I don't think they're looking at it like that,
but the injuries is a point.
If they are, like in that hypothetical scenario,
if they would hit that button and undo the whole thing,
it's just a mortifying process to get to the signing of the country,
which I know is what you were arguing.
My thing on Purdy was it was inevitable.
They were going to pay them.
Guys who play that well for that long with that much success,
teams don't just let them walk out the door.
But it wasn't a walk out the door.
It was not a walk.
He was not a free agent.
We always say pay a guy sooner than later because the price is just going to continue to go up.
Purdy's would not.
What's Purdy's price right now?
Had he played well, I mean, it could have went up.
But look, I've always, I was that way on Tua.
I was that way on Trevor.
I don't hate what you said about Pertie.
I mean, it felt almost cruel because he played so well and it made no money, right?
And Pardy and Tua had, I'm sorry.
It could have been.
Trevor was the first overall pick, two of top five picks.
They at least had millions of dollars in the bank.
I understand it feels unfair.
I just, I also, and I know, Brew, you've made the point that you think
I'm specific to Purdy on this, and maybe it is a little size bias or whatever it is.
But three-star bias.
Yeah.
But starting quarterbacks in this league, the really good ones typically don't have multiple years where they miss multiple games.
Like that is, I know Burrow, you know, Burrow, Lamar had the two years at the end of the year, not even the sickness.
He had two injuries where he missed end of years.
But, like, part of what makes Josh, Josh, Patrick, Patrick, Herbert, to his credit.
You know, Stafford.
Stafford after it.
Stafford had the one year.
Like, is a man.
And again, I don't know how bad the injury is.
Like, I'm not saying he needs to play through it.
But what I'm saying is those guys are just out there.
There, you know, out there.
And it's not that I think they're 100% all the time.
Purdy is different injuries to different parts of his body.
that have knocked him out at different times for real portions of time.
I do just this is not going to make any headlines.
The Rams probably win.
Mac probably plays okay and there's not a quarterback.
That's the overwhelming likelihood.
It's like, well, you didn't have enough weapons and then it's just.
I think the Rams would have to just play poor.
We see that sometimes.
Your team will give away a game.
They start hot.
They traditionally started.
And the Shanahan McVeigh thing is real.
And I mean, it's spilled over into their oldest, their assistant.
and Cohen and Sala.
You know what I mean?
Like, ah, what a sound.
Yeah.
Love it.
All right, now it's time for our second edition of quarterback quarterly.
Danny, can you explain how quarterback quarterly works?
Yeah, well, so sample size, try to zoom out a little bit, ranking quarterbacks each and every week.
I feel like I would be more of a prisoner of the moment on it and just too reactionary.
So wanted to just, this is how I'm grouping the quarterbacks through four games.
So it's not necessarily one through 32.
It's not a left to right situation.
Thank God.
You'll see how the quadrants.
are set up. So these are the guys who are off of the quarterly report for one reason or another.
Top left, you're injured. So at this moment, what am I going to do with Joe Burrow, Jaden Daniels,
Lamar Jackson, and J.J.A. McCarthy. Not the same caliber of player, but they're injured at this
moment in time. Hope you're renting. You're not going to be there long or your fans don't want you
to be there long. Spencer Rattler, Bryce Young. I know it feels a little mean on Tua. He will
like to. Where is he going? Well, that's the thing. He likely will be on the team next year,
but fans are going to be clamoring for him to move on beyond this year.
Top right and Nick knows this.
Hold on.
How long is he on probation for him?
Shut out.
It wasn't shut out by the Panthers this week.
He won this week.
I know.
And I'm disregarding it because you were shut out by the Panthers.
Michael Paddock's Jr.
Sorry, it's going to take a lot more than one game against Washington for me to for me to forget.
Oh, yeah.
It's a good point.
It happened this quarter.
It happened this quarter.
All right, thank you.
Carolina was the worst defense in the NFL by far.
They were a huge favorite and you put up zero points.
Michael Pennix Jr.
You're just alone for a while.
You're in punishment.
And then the news of the day, Dylan Gabriel.
People are going to be there, why isn't it Shador?
I don't know because Cleveland drafted Dylan Gabriel two rounds ahead of Shador Sanders.
So they probably think he's a better football player.
And the rest of it is just noise.
But now let's get in to the actual quadrants where we're starting to group the players.
The all potential team, Cam Ward, Kyler Murray, Bo Nix, Jackson Dart, Trevor Lawrence.
What Trevor gets to be with all the, Kyler with all these kids?
So, well, hold on.
Kyler and Trevor Lawrence, their fans, they've been paid hundreds of millions of dollars.
But it's still, it's like, well, maybe one day they could become what they were supposed to be based on where they were drafted.
And yet here we are, what, six years into Trevor Lawrence's career, five years, career low in completion percentage, second low in pass rating.
He just might not be that good.
So that's, but he was a Gatorade All-All-American.
I heard that.
I heard that about Gatorade All-American.
other guys still have plenty of time, but again, it's on potential. The first time we did
quarterback quarterly, there was a nod to bruise it's fluid with the rankings. Today, Wilds,
the hay, what's going on? Trademarked Kevin Wilde's group. Gino Smith, you got the most
interceptions in the league through four weeks? You're supposed to be the most accurate passer.
What's going on? I forgot the hay. Oh, yeah, sorry, right, trademark.
C.J. Stroud.
Why is Zino Jones so big?
I'm going to tell you why in just a second.
It's a metaphor.
Sylvay Stroud.
You've only topped 300 yards three of your last 23 games.
Hey, what's going on?
Jalen Hertz, you're programming sports television everywhere with, hey, what's going on?
Zero completions in the second half.
And then maybe the biggest, hey, what's going on, trademarked Kevin Wilde's in the whole league, Daniel Jones.
How about this, guys?
Top eight completion.
percentage. Passing yards, pass a rating, yards per attempt, anchoring the fourth highest
scoring offense in the NFL. Nick Haddam is the number one pick in the draft. The whole
world had this team left for dead because of Danny Dimes. He's undeniably a pro bowler if the season
ended today. He's on Bruce MVP ballot. Hey, can I can I ask you a question? Yeah, please. At what point
are we going to say Daniel Jones is good? I mean, it's coming. It would have to be at some
point next year.
You think next year.
I mean, Sam Darnold, let's he
have, say, what if he has the Sam Darnold year?
Here's the difference.
There's no Justin Jefferson and Indy.
And at the end of, oh, yeah, no, that's fair.
You know, like the talent.
But I guess the same baggage, you know what I mean?
Like, Donald, what are you, 4,000 yards, 14 wins?
I do think, but I would say that Jones was better than Darnold early in his career.
Like Jones' first year was actually okay.
Sure.
And he had a bunch of different coordinators.
He had the year they made the playoffs.
Real quick.
I'm enjoying this so far.
I still don't understand why he's bigger than everyone.
Because he's the most, hey, what's going on guy.
I want him to stand out.
We don't talk about the other guys a lot more.
We wouldn't have noticed that had his head.
It would have been back.
It's not.
It's not like, it's got to be gigantic.
Either all or not like.
I'm not trying to critique everything you do.
But that, oh, that is, the problem is it looks like we made a mistake.
It looks like our graphic team made mistake.
Not that we did it all purpose.
All right, next.
It worked.
By the way, we're talking about it.
All right, thank you.
The third quadrant, prove me right.
Prove me right or prove me wrong.
Oh, I like that.
Eighths.
So Caleb Williams, Aaron Rogers, and Drake May.
Ode all the stock on them coming into the year.
I thought the Steelers were going to be a playoff team this year.
But Drake May could be the second best quarterback in that QB class behind Caleb Williams.
And so far, I would say, these guys are proving me right.
They're all off to pretty good starts this year.
I'm not backing off any of that.
I was pretty low on Purdy, Jordan Love, and Sam Darnold.
And so far, they are proving me wrong.
I know we'll get a little bit more into Jordan Love in just a little bit.
But Caleb Williams, quietly, five touchdowns, one interception, his last two games, pass a rating of over 106.
They're averaging 25 points per game.
That'd be the best than bears since 2018.
Caleb Williams, proving me right.
Last quadrant, QB quarterly.
Do it every four weeks.
No notes.
Every fan of all of these teams would love their quarterbacks.
Patrick Mahomes, Baker Mayfield, Justin Herbert.
Jared Goff, Josh Allen, Dak Prescott, and Matt Stauffer.
Now, I am not saying that Dak Prescott is as good as Josh Allen
or that Baker Mayfield is as good as Patrick Mahomes.
But there is not a cowboy fan anywhere who would be like,
I don't like how Dak is playing right now,
or how a Bucks fan for Baker Mayfield.
These are the quarterbacks that no one who roots for their teams
could have any issue with, and that is our second edition,
first in season of quarterback quarterly.
How I see the quarterbacks in the NFL.
I enjoyed that.
Brew, are you first?
Yeah, brew.
It's a perfect.
That was nice.
I think you should give.
Just so you know, Danny.
That's patronizing.
No, that was nice is good.
That was cute.
It's the meanest thing Bruce says.
Oh, okay.
So as long as nice is fine.
When he goes, that was cute, it's him dropping an F bomb on him.
Oh, wow.
Okay.
I didn't say cute.
J-Lo, I think people are underselling how well J-Lo is playing.
And I'm not saying, I'm not saying he doesn't have.
have is things you need to worry about, right?
Maybe making a bad decision here or there.
But he is the only quarterback, Danny, that is in the top five, only quarterback,
in the top five in total yards, yards per attempt, touchdown the interception ratio,
and passerating.
And so he, a lot of the top quarterbacks have had like one great game.
Mahomes has had that one great game against Baltimore and then some other good ones.
golf had the one great game against Chicago.
Then it was okay.
He has been pretty good in all the,
now the Cleveland game was bad,
but three really good games outside of that.
So I just think I get the concern,
but like I said earlier,
Baker Mayfield through a game ending interception last week,
Baker Mayfield led the league in interceptions last year,
and people seem to have more concerns
about J-Lo's decision-making
than Bakers, even though Jay Lowe's thrown one interception in his last 11 regular season games.
Regular season games, big caveat.
But he's played well in the playoff game, too.
The one he was.
Yeah, two of the games ended with Jordan Love making really terrible decisions.
One of them cost them the game against Cleveland,
and then he was one second away from not being able to tie that game against.
You don't put any of that on the floor who I know is a very good coach.
I think the quarterback's the guy out there on the field in that spot.
he's a veteran. I would trust him to execute a little bit more. But to your point, he's also,
he could be proving me wrong because his stats have been remarkable.
All right. Nick. I assume no, no gripes.
Danny has been learning from Brew and not in a good, not in a good way.
It's a good guy to learn. Not in a good way. This no notes section, you know what it feels a lot like?
And you know what? It crossed my mind. Tier two, a fifth, a third of the league.
it's fluid.
Have a take.
Get a stand out on it.
All these guys are good.
No one's unhappy.
We don't need to rank them.
Give me a break.
Don't put Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen
and next to Justin Herbert's last two weeks.
At least make Mahomes head slightly.
Oh, right.
They're all the same size.
There's no, there's no rhyme or reason.
This feels like your tier one is like
Bruce's tier two.
It's fluid and it's overpopulated.
I don't like it.
I don't like it one bit.
Through four weeks is a Charger fan, Lion fan,
are any of those guys fans upset with how they've been playing?
No.
Well, that's how I'm doing it.
But that, okay, I understand that is a justification
for having them all together.
Thank you.
But if one of your tears was blue-eyed quarterbacks,
I wouldn't like that eye.
There's not enough information for the best guys.
I'm going to sit down for next week.
Blue-eyed quarterback.
Solid.
Solid?
Solid?
Something?
Yeah, this is something.
All right.
Solid is better.
Wild saying solid is better than Brew saying good job.
Uh-oh.
No, that was good.
Yeah.
Wild solid is like that was really good.
Nice.
I don't know.
Coming up next.
Chiefs owner Clark Hunt joins the show.
Stay with us.
From Kansas City.
I don't like Kansas City.
I love Kansas City.
Kansas City's favorite son who decided to make a grander entrance.
I'm ready to declare it.
Kevin Wilde's date.
Eagles!
No.
31.
21.
I'm sorry.
We're here for these people.
Let them take us out.
What an awesome day that was for us here at first things first in Kansas City.
And it is our pleasure now to be joined by the chairman in C.E.
of the Kansas City Chiefs, Clark Hunt.
Clark, we very much appreciate your time.
You know, it's kind of amazing.
My grandfather was a chief season ticket holder back at Municipal Stadium.
I worked in Kansas City, covered you guys for seven years.
Nick, obviously, a longtime proud Kansas City.
And we used to do topics back in the day of like,
will a Chiefs player ever get a national endorsement?
And now we're bringing our show to Kansas City.
Pre-game shows are happening from the parking lot.
Network executives are clamoring for your games.
the chiefs have been in the Hunt family for forever.
They're basically America's team now.
Can you believe how popular the chiefs have become?
Well, first of all, it's great to be on with you guys this afternoon.
We certainly have had a very special run over the last six or seven years.
And as a family, we don't take it for granted because we know how challenging it is.
When you go 50 years between Super Bowls, that gives you a perspective on how hard it is to get to the top.
And the job that Andy Reid, Brett Vej, Patrick Mahomes, and his teammates have done has been tremendous to really elevate the brand not only in the U.S. but on a global basis.
Well, you mentioned elevating the brand. I think we can add even more to it. To me, it's changed the face of the city.
You know, the drafts in Kansas City. We have an additional pro sports team now with the women's soccer league that Patrick and his wife or his wife,
It feels like Kansas City, which, you know, is my hometown and I've always loved, but was, you know, a yeah, you know, a yeah but city now has become maybe the epicenter of the NFL, having, you know, been there your entire life and seen it for your entire adult life with the Chiefs.
How have you seen the way the city has changed since the rise of the Kansas City Chiefs?
Well, the Chiefs have always had a special connection with the city.
We have a tremendous fan base.
The games at GHA field at Arrowhead, I think, are some of the most entertaining in the NFL.
It's really a bucket list for a lot of NFL fans.
But certainly, since the team turned the corner and we've been making it to AFC championship games,
making it to Super Bowls, winning Lombardi trophies.
I think the perspective of the fans has really,
really changed. I think they feel, you know, proud to be from Kansas City. They feel proud of the
Chiefs. And, you know, I should also mention that we've had a lot of success with some of the other
pro sports teams in town, including the Royals and sporting Kansas City going back a decade or so.
So it's really been an era of championships in Kansas City. And I definitely feel a different vibe in
the parking lots when I get out there before the games and tailgate. So if people don't
No, non-Chiefs fans might not know this.
The AFC Championship Trophy is named after your dad, the founder of the Kansas City Chiefs.
It's Lamar Hunt Trophy.
And as you alluded to in your first answer, the Chiefs make Super Bowl 1 and Super Bowl 4.
And then there's a half-century drought.
And in fact, in that time, they only play for that trophy one other time.
Now they've played for it seven straight years.
They've won it five times.
how do you think your dad would be experiencing this era of Chiefs football and how special is it for you to on an almost annual basis get to collect the trophy with his name on it?
Yeah, well, there's no doubt that he would love this era of Chiefs football.
At his heart, he was a competitor. He was somebody who wanted to see his franchise succeed.
He had a lot of success in the early years of the American Football League, winning some AFL championships,
and then later making it to a couple of Super Bowls and winning Super Bowl 4.
But he never had the opportunity to hold the trophy that has his name on it.
And it's something that we talked about a lot as a family.
My dad was incredibly humble and never complained about it.
But I know it would have meant a lot to him to get to hold that trophy.
in his hands. And it's something that we cherish each time we have a chance to play for the
AFC championship. You know, the opportunity to hoist another Lamar Hunt trophy is really special.
And of course, the benefit of then getting to go on and try to compete for a LaBardi trophy.
The guy that we see there hoisting the Lamar Hunt trophy is a big reason why Patrick Mahomes.
And I know he signed, you know, this massive contract that it's been restructured.
But he's also just been the perfect superstar.
Open it up a restaurant, like Nick mentioned.
His wife owns a women's soccer team.
He's really embraced Kansas City.
So you got like the winning, the perfect superstar.
He's embraced the city.
I don't know, Clark underpaid.
I feel like he's a tremendous value Patrick Mahomes at this point.
Yeah.
Well, Patrick's a tremendous ambassador for the city all the way around.
As you alluded to, not only is he an amazing quarterback.
You know, maybe the greatest of all time.
But he's also somebody that everybody in Kansas City is proud to call one of their own.
He's invested in many businesses in Kansas City.
You mentioned already the Kansas City Current, but he's an investor in the Kansas City Royals.
He's an investor in sporting Kansas City, somebody who really tries to support the community all the way around.
His foundation has done tremendous work throughout the city.
He's really used the platform that he has to make a difference.
And as a leader in our locker room and for the franchise, you just can't say enough good things about him.
We had, it was 2017, this show was on at six in the morning, and I had a shaved head.
And Tom Bah Ali came on the show during the 2017 season and said,
to us, hey, the rookie we drafted, who hadn't played a down yet, it was in the off season, actually,
it was before the season even started, I think he's going to be the next Brett Fav.
And we were like, okay, Tomba. And it turns out not only was he on the right track, but he
undersold it. I want to ask you, obviously, we know the story of, you know, Vich and Andy
drafting him and all of that. And you guys loved him from the beginning. But what was the first
moment that you maybe said privately to someone, oh, we don't, we don't have a good one here.
We have an all-time great one. Was there a moment that that kind of dawned on you and what it
would mean for your team? Well, he made his first start the last game of the season in 2017.
So that was the first chance we had to see him on the field. And he certainly looked like
somebody who was going to be a very good NFL quarterback in that game.
But I would say really the first time that we all realized how special he was and what we had
was the next year, the first couple of weeks, we played the Chargers out in L.A.
And he had a tremendous game.
I remember him throwing a wheel route to one of our fullbacks down the left side of the field.
And it was just one of those stories you go, wow, that was really special.
And then the following week, we went to Pittsburgh, a place that we'd had a lot of difficulty getting a victory.
And that game was effectively over by halftime.
I think he and Kelsey connected for three or so touchdowns.
And, you know, we were just all like, we just, we couldn't believe it.
It was so special.
But I want to go back to 2017, to something you mentioned about Tomba, when Patrick wasn't playing.
Obviously, Brett Veach, who's our general manager,
now and was instrumental in bringing him to Kansas City was incredibly high on Patrick.
So periodically he would send me a clip from practice of Patrick doing special stuff.
And he sent me this one and the headline was no look pass.
I was like, what's a no look pass in football?
I know what it is in basketball.
But sure enough, is Patrick in practice looking one way, throwing the ball the other way
and completing it?
Of course, we would later see him do that against the Baltimore race.
Havens in an important game later in the 2018 season.
And, you know, it's just amazing.
And then almost every week we saw him do something that you just said,
wow, I've never seen that before in a football field.
The left-hander on Monday night against Denver, his first year as a starter.
Every week it was something different that first year.
Yeah, really was.
Similar type of question then on Andy Reid, like almost as much as the folklore of how
you guys drafted Patrick was how you hired Andy Reid, not like.
letting him get to the next job interview, like swooping in right at the beginning after the time in Philadelphia had come to an end.
Everyone knows about the game planning and the play calling, but if you could anecdotally explain, like,
oh, I knew I was getting a great football coach, but it's actually been something more for this.
How would you explain that about Andy Reed?
Yeah, well, when we hired Andy at the beginning of the 2013 season, I really thought he was the perfect fit for the franchise at that time.
We were coming off of a couple of very hard years, and I felt like we needed a mature, experienced leader, somebody who connected well with the players, somebody who had tremendous attention to detail, and obviously somebody who had had a lot of success as an NFL head coach.
And Andy checked all those boxes.
But like Patrick, Andy has been better than I could have ever dreamed.
He is so incredibly consistent.
And the players you're in, you're out want to play for him.
He forms a relationship with the players and gets to know them beyond the football field.
And because of that, they're all willing to go out there and give it their best.
I really think that's an unsaid part of why he's so successful and why he's been able to be at the very top of the national football league as a head coach for almost 25 years now.
So now, Clark, I've known this guy, Nick, here, for about 20 years.
He's my best friend.
And I don't know what best friends are for, if not to embarrass them on national TV.
So he's like, you know, the number one Chiefs fan.
You go out with this guy in Kansas City, and it's like Patrick Mahomes, Travis Kelsey, Nick Wright,
in terms of how many people get noticed around town.
He's the favorite son of Kansas City.
And he reps you guys very hard on this show.
And he drops banners on the show all the time.
I know you're familiar with it.
And it's praising the Chiefs.
And so I was thinking you guys are going to win another Super Bowl at some point.
He's the Chiefs fan.
He's the banner dropping guy.
They're not going to let me drop the Super Bowl banner.
I think you guys should have Nick at the opener after you win your next Super Bowl
and let Nick pull the rope to drop the banner as that possible.
I think that's a great idea.
Verbal contracts.
Nick Wright gets to drop the next banner?
Yeah.
We've got this control room.
We'll put them in there with.
a button and then hit that button.
Okay, that's fine.
I was going to sign up just to, I just want to bang the drum one time.
But if I can drop a banner, like, whatever.
How does he not bangs the drum?
At some point, I got to bang the drum.
I'll be honest.
It can be a preseason game.
I want to bang the drum.
Thank you so much, Clark.
And congratulations.
And thank you for what you've done for my hometown, man.
Seriously.
Yeah, absolutely.
Great being on with you guys today.
I'm glad we've got a couple of cheese fans here.
I appreciate it.
Absolutely.
Thank you.
There's the chairman and CEO of the Kansas City Chiefs and the man who's going to drop the next banner out.
And bang the drone.
I feel like that was a double last for you.
This is a great day.
Great job by you.
Yeah.
You're welcome.
No problem.
Well, more first things first coming up.
I brought my stats.
Back here on FTF with Coach Cologne and Willie Cologne.
I'll take it.
You would not have been a coach.
I could.
One day, we'll see.
Yeah.
There's a future, right, coach?
Yeah, all right.
Get it in a lot of fights to be a coach.
Hey, have you seen Mike Vrabel?
That's a great.
That's a good point.
All right.
What's time for pack stats?
We're making stats cool again.
I never leave home without my stats.
And they give me great power.
Like the ability to be like, lights.
And then the lights go out.
And then you open it up.
You're like, oh, my God, we got an amazing stat.
Number one, stats leading the conversation, 21 and 1.
That is Aaron Rogers' record since 2019, basically when he became an old man,
35 or older.
If his defense gives him four or more sacks, he is basically impossible to be.
So the formula for the Steelers is, hey, Aaron, don't mess it up.
We pay more money on the defensive side of the ball than any team in the NFL.
First two games, defense was terrible.
Last two games, 11 sacks in the last two.
Willie for your Steelers, this is the formula to win.
It's more about the defense than Aaron Rogers.
Yeah, I don't disagree with you, D.P.
For me, and I know for a fact, Mike Tomlin is preaching three things.
Keep Aaron Rogers upright, play bully ball up front, and the defense get takeaways.
And that's what's so great about Sunday's game versus the Vikings, because offensively, they was able to come out with their jumbo packets by adding the extra office alignment, which allowed the officer line to play fast up front.
And it also kept Aaron Rogers upright by not feeling he had to make every throw in the field.
Defensively, it's about getting the quarterback to see goals.
Pressure, pressure, pressure, pressure, takeaways, still is win.
This is a pretty big reach stat here.
Pretty big reach.
I've never, I've never seen the correlation between four plus stats and quarterback.
wins before. I'm assuming if you've got four plus sacks, you're playing pretty good
defense. Playing from out in front. Probably some significant amount or not significant amount,
but at least some turnovers in that mix. I wish you could just correlate sacks to wins or
sacks to wins, but I, yeah, I'm skeptical. I'm a little skeptical. I think he's going to have to
throw the ball well, protect the ball well. Say he's going to give you a baseline of offensive
production. Get some help in the running game.
Well, at this point, if the defense keeps it in the low 20s, he's the closer.
That's the idea.
That's the idea.
All right.
Willie liked it.
I do.
Coach, but not.
I had never seen that.
All right.
That's fine.
It's holding a suitcase.
That's a suitcase.
0 for 1.
Oh, for one.
Give me my light's place.
We'll see if coach likes this one.
It's another defensive base stat as it relates to a quarterback play, so maybe not.
Okay.
51.5 is the pressure percentage that Justin Herbert has had to endure, meaning
51.5% of the time he drops.
back back. He's under pressure. We know about Rashaun Slater's injury.
Mackay Beckton's had the concussion. Then Joe Alco goes out in that game.
There are three top offensive linemen in both of their tackles.
And all of a sudden, Justin Herbert's running around for his life.
Why is that threshold significant? Well, one, it's the highest in the NFL the last two weeks.
Clearly not the design for a Jim Harbaugh team.
But you remember that playoff game against the Texans when he had four interceptions?
He was pressured 50% of the time.
So he's been pressured more the last two games than he was in that Texans game.
That's the only thing that can derail Justin Herbert's MVP candidacy coach.
51.5.
Yeah, I think this is a good stat.
And this is a surprising stat to me because I worked with Greg Roman and with Jim Harbaugh and San Francisco.
And I know how good Greg is in the running game and designing very effective, not only core runs, but packages of runs.
And to me, that's what they need to do is stop having it so skewed towards the past.
And I understand that Jim really likes the way.
that Justin's developed, but run the ball first, and that'll take a ton of pressure off the
offensive lineman. That'll slow down the defensive lineman. That'll allow them to build play action.
And it's what helped Justin Herbert so much last season. They have to get back to that as the
starting point. Yeah, the number is alarming, but I'm out of excuses when it comes to Justin Herbert,
right? Because we've seen quarterbacks like him in this position. You go back to 2001
where Aaron Rogers won MVP. He had four out of his starting office line.
climbing down. I mean, Bacti already makes 16 games. Elton Jenkins missed nine.
Josh Myers missed like six. And then I think Billy Turner, he missed a couple as well.
So Aaron Rogers was able to shoulder that team and win MVP. If he's him, DP, if he's him.
It's a fair point because I do think he is him. Okay. I will say that is one of the most impressive
quarterback seasons in the history of the NFL. But he's him. Okay. But that Aaron Rogers MVP season
when he led the league in Sacks taken also is one of the craziest seasons. But in your top five, he's
You're right.
He's got a long way to go to be him.
Yeah.
There is still a gap, but I'm with you.
But I'm just going to the number one Justin Herbert fan in all the land.
I might be number two this season.
Oh, see?
So he's got to overcome it.
But I need the running game to help him be him.
Last one.
Give me my lights.
So I feel like coach didn't like the first one.
Really not as much on the second one.
We'll see if we can find universal ground here.
On a pretty simple one, 28.6, that's the number of points per game.
That's Xavier worthy, when he's on the field, the chief's score.
I honestly underestimated this going into last week.
It's like, well, Worthy will come back, but then they still need rice to come back,
and it's going to take some time.
It's like, oh, actually, I was just wrong.
If you go to the Steelers game last year, the three playoff games,
and then the game they played last week against Baltimore,
maybe it's just Xavier Worthy.
You give Patrick Rahms a deep threat, chunk plays, speed, opens up things underneath.
Simple.
Yeah, I don't know if it's a light show, but it's flickering.
It's a little flickering.
Five games is not nothing.
Well, I'm going to the Baltimore game this past Sunday.
Baltimore was horrible on defense, right?
And it was good that he had an impact,
and it shows what they were able to do when he's on the field.
But they also have the Jags coming up.
And then they had the lines.
If he's able to do and produce, and this office is able to do and produce,
then I'll say-
Stack it.
Sure.
So I'm like, okay.
But right now I'm just not a believer.
Here's the reason I think there is credence to this,
is he's the closest thing to Tyreek Hill that they've had since Tyreef left.
And the one thing that Tyreech constantly did was put pressure on you,
vertically and also put pressure on you on those deep overrouts.
And to me, with that element missing, everything got so constricted for Patrick
and the offense.
And now getting that back, you're seeing the effect.
So do I think it's exactly a correlation?
No, but it's helped a lot.
And there's just still more to come.
Like you all of a sudden, if Travis Kelsey give you a number three or four.
We can't take Sunday as a sample for things to come.
Like put them in the ring with the Jacksonville for Jaguars who lead the league and
takeaways. Put them in a ring with Ada Hutchison at kick-ass defense. And then we can say
they're back. I understand that. All I'm saying is Rishi Rice missed those games last year that I'm
going back for this 28 and a half points per game with Xavier Worthies last five. It's not nothing
teams. It's the Steelers. There are three playoff games and then Baltimore. That's not that's not
nothing in terms of competition. And what Xavier does is he forces you to defend the whole field
that you can't constrict the defense as much because of that speed element. They need them. They do
They need him.
And they'll get Rishi Rice back in a couple of weeks.
We had starting quarterback news out of Cleveland.
Dylan Gabriel's getting the start and they're talking to Shador Sanders.
Make it make sense.
We will try to.
Coming up on FTF.
Some quarterback news in Cleveland this morning as the Browns informed their rookie third round pick,
Dylan Gabriel, that he is now QB1 ahead of the matchup against the Vikings in London with Joe Flacco being benched.
Chodor Sanders, the fifth round pick, is now not the QB1.
And of course, that was confusing to people that a guy who's drafted in front of the other guy would start before him.
Seems pretty straightforward to me.
But we had to ask Shador Sanders about it, and he answered, kind of.
Mocally?
Any of your favorite?
You do not need to adjust your volume there, folks.
That is Shadur Sanders refusing.
to speak to reporters while speaking to reporters, literally not being willing to make speech.
As a talk show host, I find that to be hilarious. But if I was evaluating that as a like,
hey, should your quarterback be doing that, that's about as unprofessional as it gets. What's your reaction?
That was the first time you'd seen that. That was. I thought it was us. I didn't know that.
You thought it was technical difficulty. No, that's disheartened it, man. And that's not why,
that's not how you handle things as a quarterback in any situation. I don't care if you're starting and not.
to the situation is, you know, he, in my eyes, going into this draft, it was only him
and Cam Ward. Like, people were prepared for him to be the guy. And then when you act like that
for whatever situation, and it just shows the lack of maturity. And then now there's questions
if you're even prepared or you're even ready for the moment. So that's tough to see.
Yeah, he doesn't strike me as being a bad kid. I wish he would just get out of his own way a little
bit and moments like this where you have an opportunity just to, you may not disagree with
the decision, or you may not agree with the decision. That's fine, but just go ahead and give,
stand up, be a professional answer. And move forward as opposed to drawing more attention
to yourself and not positive attention. I don't think that helps him. I don't think that
endears him to the organization. I don't think that necessarily makes his teammates sit around
and say, hey, we really need to get him into the mix.
Well, it definitely doesn't warrant a tap on a shoulder for you to get in there and lead a team if you're going to act like that.
That's the thing.
Nothing came out of that.
People are, I can't believe they're starting Tilling Gabriel over Shador Sanders.
Roll that clip.
Right.
You're right.
You're probably not mature enough and ready to do it.
And I know this is like a little reductive, but like one guy was a third round pick, one guy was a fifth round pick.
They're starting the third round pick first.
That's not a crazy thing to happen.
Yeah, but that wasn't the narrative going into the draft.
And I think there's some four decisions in the draft.
process that probably led to him dropping the way you see a video like that and I'm like oh I could see him not being great
free draft I can see how those two might be connected back tomorrow on FTF
